>because you already spent a lot of time proving the opposite.
So if they spent a week as an alt-righter (however that's defined this week), and a decade as a committed pro-feminist progressive, when will the scale tip over, exactly?
>for people to trust me.
I don't think this post is going to help with that.
You just kinda walked right past the part where there are lots of people on the left who openly show hate and contempt for men just for existing.
Especially if they're white and straight.
That is not helpful.
Heck, even just basic middle-of-the-road conservatism is better at that. Even minority men are arguably better off in some conservative circles than some progressive ones.
If you are going to argue those people are a small amount and don't matter, I will pre-emptively retort that if they are scaring away needed support, they actually do matter.
Especially combined with popular messaging from critics of progressives - including other progressives - that progressives generally hate men.
And also, earlier this year, countless feminists defended the idea that being in the woods with a random man is worse for a woman than being in there with a random bear.
Not exactly what I'd call an obscure opinion.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Just. Really fast.
I really do try to keep politics away from my social media but...
I'm American. We just voted for the stupidest candidate we could have possibly voted for. If you know that one Cyanide and Happiness skit where the presidential candidates were a perfectly good, reasonable and professional person vs. a literal glutton for humiliation promising to make the country fall into ruin just for shits and giggles? Yeah that's basically this election right now. We fucking voted for a man so cartoonishly bad he is basically a Cyanide and Happiness character.
This country quite literally hates women more than it actually wants to have freedom. That's the bottom line here.
We are literally getting lambasted by OTHER COUNTRIES because we voted for Trump, our allies overseas are quite literally calling us idiots, and frankly? We fucking deserve it. People want to kill themselves over this election, LITERAL CHILDREN are concerned for the future of this country- I recently heard my very, very conservative, God-fearing mother express concern over her own future moving forward over Trump. It wasn't just her either, it was my entire right-wing family as well, they are all so concerned about what's going to happen with Trump in office, so it's not just the fucking liberals or whatever who are terrified of what's about to happen.
I'm scared for the hundreds of thousands of other queer folks out there who didn't get the chance to start living their truest selves before their rights got stripped again. I'm scared for the women who now have to live in constant fear of their own bodies because what if they get taken advantage of and don't want to carry the baby, or what if they miscarry or birth a still born? Congratulations you're going to jail! I'm scared for the POC people in our country who are about to face the worst racism this country has seen since the goddamn slave-years. I'm scared for every single person in this country who isn't a cishet white man because they're about to face the consequences of someone else's actions and have no say in it.
I'm scared for the businesses who are about to face tariffs so dumb they're going to have to restrict their worker's pay. I'm scared for the enviornment because Trump wants to go after the fucking climate crisis for some goddamn reason. I'm scared for my own future, because I want to go through college, I want to be an architect, and I may not get that opportunity over the sex I was born with and didn't get a choice in having.
I agree with the people that are saying shit like "if we can elect a president with 34 felons, then you should be able to get a job with one" because yeah. I think people are seriously forgetting Trump is convicted on 34 felony charges, is a rapist, a literal national security risk, is half a billion dollars in debt, is also convicted of fraud, whose own political party minus the loud part stopped supporting him, and his administration is not returning to the White House because they either hate him or are in jail.
And yet we elected him to be our president.
All of this to say-
Raise fucking hell.
Demand those votes be recounted, fight for your rights, donate to good causes, research what stores and businesses support human decency, do what you think you can do within your own limits to help our country and it's people.
We are not done fighting, we are not going to just wallow in our own defeat. If they get to be loud, then we get to be louder.
As Optimus says, "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings"
-
Edit:
Trump doesn't have the power to do shit right now. That is why I'm saying we fight before he does.
And also,
Our lives are worth more than the price of gas and eggs. Remember that.

part of what freaks me out is even women with good male partners (assuming they're cis men) are at extreme risk with what they plan to do to abortion rights across the country. my sister is engaged to a wonderful feminist guy who thinks the world of her, and she's also religious and not particularly inclined to get an elective abortion. (to be clear, she's pro-choice and very liberal overall - it's just about her own personal choice.) but she wants to have kids together and i'm scared because what if she has a problem pregnancy? we live in a blue state that JUST enshrined abortion rights in its state constitution per ballot measure but that doesn't help if we get a national abortion ban! my mom was basically begging her on the phone after the election to hold off on getting pregnant until we get another democrat in there, and overturn any anti-abortion national stuff they might pass. luckily, my sister is well-aware of all this, and is factoring in all this, but that doesn't mean i'm not still worried. even as a lesbian, i'm so scared i'm thinking of getting an implant just so the "your body, my choice" assholes can't assault me into a pregnancy i don't want, since those can last for years and i don't want an IUD (with how painful the insertion is according to every straight woman i know + i have a family friend who had one inserted wrongly and had to get two abortions because she kept getting pregnant anyway as a result)
like my mom keeps talking about how when she got pregnant the first time she miscarried and needed a D&C. pretty routine thing after miscarrying. but now the crazies are treating D&Cs like they're abortions??? this was not an issue at all when she got one in the 1980s. absolutely insane how bad this could get
yeah it’s super scary for anyone who wants to give birth right now. the worst part is that lib women like your family realize this but conservative women are going to be told that all our cautions about getting pregnant in a country without abortion rights is just “lib hysteria” or whatever and they will continue to get pregnant and suffer extremely preventable consequences, including death.

Someone should write a very practical and down-to-earth story about a dragonriding culture and how they deal with the potential for whiplash and related injuries. I just saw a gifset from a certain realistic dragon show, and watching those tiny CG riders bobbing around up there makes me concerned for the sake of their spines.
Do the saddles have backs and headrests? Does part of training involve teaching the dragon to hold its back unnaturally steady? Is there a handy magic spell to counteract inertia/gravity? Or are a number of riders lost each year to snapped necks, along with the ones who pass out from G-forces and are forbidden from flying?

Yeah, the number of people who seriously didn't know anything other than "he said he'd fix the economy" can't be that common. And if you ever heard him speak, you heard him define "fixing the economy" as "shutting down the border," because his single biggest campaign tool has been the complete and utter lie that "illegals" are a significant drain on the economy or that they're on the rise. Both are false. The vast, vast majority of his supporters, I'd say well over 99%, maybe more like several hundred to one, hold at least one, normally several of the following beliefs:
That there are bloodthirsty foreign devils deliberately invading at all times from the Southern border, and they can be blamed for the financial struggles of the "legal" citizens.
Anyone outside the traditional gender norms is an insatiable pervert and wants to corrupt innocent children.
Those who get abortions or in some cases even use birth control are murderers and filthy whores.
People in poverty are just lazy druggies who didn't care or try hard enough and brought all of their suffering on themselves.
The Disabled and in fact anyone unable to just work, work, work and work for at least some retail shit are a burden to be scorned.
Everyone bombed and killed by the U.S. military or any of its allied countries is always either a terrorist or an acceptable sacrifice in the fight against terrorists.
Police brutality is overstated and most people hurt or killed by cops did something to deserve it, but most especially minorities, who may or may not be genetically predisposed to crime.
An idea that Jewish people secretly control the world through a vast interconnected conspiracy that may also involve demon worship and child trafficking.
Doctors and scientists are liars who drain money from the economy and are wrong about everything that might inconvenience a rich man.
Non-Christians of any kind are degenerate and dangerous.
Trump's entire platform, and that of all other GOP candidates these days, is a deliberately fuzzy promise to act on any or all of these hysterical prejudices. He's most consistent about the first one and made it pretty much the central pillar of his whole campaign, because the paranoia over an imaginary "border crisis" is by far the most popular culture war uniting the right. Which is pretty fucking sad considering just how utterly fabricated it is, and how effortless it is to find that out in only seconds. However, not all conservatives subscribe to all of the same moral panics at the same time, so right wing influencers spend a lot of time weeping and gnashing over "liberalism" or "socialism" or this word that rhymes with "yoke" so that every one of their stupid, angry grovelers can read into it as a promise to defeat whatever it is those words mean in their mushy fucking brains. The single most important thing to understand of all, though, is that the lies are not what make them hate people. They already wanted to hate those people. The lies are concocted after the fact to justify the deeds they want to commit. They are stupid, scared, gullible and weak but they are also willfully spiteful with a massive punishment fetish, so when you get enough of them together they can actually wreak havoc. The point of my original post was that they're not anything as cool or impressive as evil nefarious villains. They're more comparable to a mindless but inexorable flood of sewage.
Young people have GOT to stop talking about conservatives like they're scary menacing monsters. Yes the policies they back are horrifically destructive but that's entirely because of how individually stupid, fearful, emotionally stunted, weak willed and catastrophically gullible they are. That all is what made them become right wing to begin with. Just the most easily manipulated zombie sheep on earth.

Absolutely crazy that conservative women see absolutely nothing wrong with being used and seen as nothing more than a fleshlight and slave in a genuine, non-roleplay and non-bdsm/kink context. And the same people are scared of kink too.
Make it make sense
Youre fucking disgusted when consenting adults engage in safe bdsm practices in the privacy of their own home and yet you WANT to be seen and used as a fleshlight and nothing more
What the fuck
Tumblr media
Talk about missing the point entirely.
Women aren’t going on a sex strike because they dislike Trump. They’re doing it because some of his most ardent right wing supporters tweet things like ‘your body, my choice,’ and aren’t even pretending to see women are human beings anymore.
Why should any woman have sex with somebody who sees them as nothing more than an incubator?
But what should I expect from a right wing trash rag?

honestly i gotta commend ST for its portrayal of what being left-out/left-behind by your own friends feels like
as someone who’s unfortunately experienced that a lot growing up, the way they show it off is almost TOO well n I gotta remind myself that no, mike does not actually hate will this is a fictional story you know his character and why he made this choice, its irritating for a reason, art is supposed to make you feel a wide range of emotions and my brain is then like “ok yeah but look at how sad will is.”
I think Mike+Will being purposefully underwritten for s3-s4 and the two extremely long unintended delays between seasons just end up making this feel so much worse than it actually is. Part of me wants to call it bad writing and part of me LIVES for the angst it creates.
s5 recontextualization/payoff im counting on you 🙏🙏

I actually campaign for the NDP. Like, I knock on doors and talk to people about the election, the local candidate, the world. You know, stuff. I've been doing this for around 35 yrs (I started young and I'm old). My riding is traditionally NDP with the occasional red Liberal.
Let me tell you what I've seen in the last few elections.
Increasingly, working class people are turning to the Conservative Party. They aren't served by the current economic realities of Canada and they're looking for a party that will deliver them without actually making life too much different. See, they hate being screwed over themselves but they don't have any class loyalty and they're not really into changing the world. They just want a bigger piece of the pie. Social progress scares them and they like a party that confirms that they are right in what they believe about trans folk and indigenous people. They don't trust women and they don't trust people of colour. They don't know about Gaza and, this may be hard to accept, they don't care. Someone has been whispering in their ear about Trudeau. Online, I presume; where the stupid lie to each other, to keep each other perpetually angry.
Now, I don't support Trudeau/Liberals, so I can totally talk about that they've done wrong (don't even get me started on electoral reform) but I can't talk to these people because they live in a different reality from me. Their arguments usually go something like: Trudeau is a crook because of masks, vaccines, and the carbon tax. I mean, sure, he's a slimy trust fund baby but none of those things were criminal, actually. You can disagree with policy decisions but the vitriol is way out of proportion
Jagmeet Singh and the NDP have no chance with most of them because (1) he has brown skin and wears a turban (although they rarely say that part out loud, sometimes they do) and (2) he has supported the Liberal gov't in their minority. When you point out the progressive changes under the minority gov't prompted by the NDP, they don't care. I've talked to seniors who benefit from Pharmacare and young families that benefit from the national childcare program and they don't care.
Mostly, it's the men who don't care. And, like what just happened in the US, the white men are going to vote Conservative.
I don't know if ABC is the way to go. I'll vote NDP because they do have a good chance of winning here. But if I lived in a riding where they had no chance, I might plug my nose and vote Liberal to make sure the Cons have one fewer MP in Parliament. I'm just glad I don't have to make that choice.
Then, I'd spend the next 4 yrs developing the NDP in my riding, talking to people about what matters to them and how to achieve it, and calling my Liberal MP every time I feel like it to tell them what I think. I'd write letters to the editor and attend municipal townhalls to discuss local issues. I'd canvass door to door between elections to talk to people about legislative changes, etc. I'd join groups that interest me and make connections there too. When the next election comes around, I'd canvass for the candidate that I believed in.
Democracy doesn't happen on voting day alone. The rich know this and that's why they're paying bots to whisper in the ears of gullible, angry people.
I hate the idea of voting for the liberals strategically instead of the ndp but I am actually terrified of what would happen if pp won next year
