That’s actually so embarrassing when I see poc online who mostly interact with white ppl because..... What’s your excuse??? How does that even happen?? I get you can’t help where you live but we are online why is the ratio 1 poc for every 99 white ppl what’s going on???
Sometimes I see a contextless post someone saying “how do you know I only interact with white ppl?” And I get nosey so I go thru their blog and fr it’s just white ppl like they all have their race in their bio or a selfie or you could search their blog and they mention they’re white like that’s so embarrassing if you didn’t notice that I’m praying for you guys that’s not right I wish you healing I wish you the ethnic variation of a United States community college homepage photo
It’s always funny seeing ppl assume a user is white and then they pull out the “Hah! I’m not white!” bc like... that’s so embarrassing for you?
Especially when they mostly interact with white ppl (who have their race in their bio/post selfie’s/made it clear they are white). And it’s after they say some racist shit. Like.... come on you don’t have your race in your bio but have all fifty mental illnesses and your deepest darkest secrets and your preferred name and pronouns and you mostly interact with white ppl of course everyone thought you were white

Books Which yves. Personally Finds Easy To Read
I discussed the possibility of reading recommendation lists on request, but didn’t have a reference then. This is that reference: if you want a list like this, drop me $5 on ko-fi or subscribe at any tier to my Patreon ($1+) and request it!
This list runs through a few categories of books I find easy to read and frequently return to. They’re not sorted by genre, but I try to give my best pitch for each. Titles also include titles by the authors which I find immensely good as well, but tragically couldn’t include for the sake of time. I hope I'm able to help just a few 'reluctant readers' with my few dozen suggestions.
P. S.: Pairs nicely with my how to read post.
Graphic Novels
Eyes tired? Pick up a comic or graphic novel. I also find that graphic novels often provide a whole new dimension for analysis in their art styles, visual direction, and framing, when you're up for it.
Saga
The ultimate in binge-reads, Saga has three massive beautiful hardbacks out with a total of 54 issues of nonstop insanity. This space opera follows the lives of several major and minor players in a galactic conflict whose reach spreads into the families, relationships, and everyday lives of everyone in the universe. Don’t get attached; they’re probably going to die.
The Wicked + The Divine
A rip-roaring comic which has ended, so you can start now with the guarantee that you’ll reach the ending ASAP! Not a single one of these people with magical powers arguably deserves them (...but does anyone?) and they are going to show it to you by murdering, having sex with, and literally eating as many people as possible. Not an issue goes by without you wondering either, what can they do now?! or why did they do THAT?! Warning: Volume 8 is side stories and thus personally less interesting to me.
Fun Home (Dykes to Watch Out For)
“I’ll just flip through it,” I think. “I’m not going to read the entire thing this time. Just a few pages.” I am an idiot, and several hours later I have finished Fun Home again. This classic graphic memoir is in no way dry while retaining its highbrow nature and general beauty as Alison Bechdel takes you on a tour of her life, her family, her sexuality, her mind, and her relationship with her father. Guarantee you will not be the same after you finish it. (Bonus: there’s a fantastic musical, too!)
Habibi (Blankets)
“Okay, but THIS one I’ll just flip through,” I say, and again it’s a lie. I literally cannot stay away from it; for the love of God do not put this 500 page monster anywhere near me or I’ll be trapped again. I literally cannot tell you more than that I have yet to stay away from this book, whether I think it is good or not. My sister, who is dyslexic and finds reading for any length of time physically taxing, read the entire thing over two weekends and complained that she suffered the entire time... but couldn’t stop. “It’s so bad,” she said, and I thought she was finished until she said “...but it’s so good.” Thus, I encourage (as with any book) a robust critical reading; the GoodReads reviews on this one have well covered its racist/sexist overtones.
The Arrival (Tales From Outer Suburbia, Tales From the Inner City, The Singing Bones, Lost & Found)
I adore Shaun Tan, and this is his most famous and possibly most affecting work. An entirely wordless graphic novel follows an immigrant on his journey across the ocean and into a new country, new home, new job, new friends. I struggle every time to slow myself down, because the story never stops moving, and yet the pages so greatly reward further examination. Tan’s work shines so incredibly brightly here, and like I said, no words at all.
Manga
Okay, I know, they should fall under graphic novels and comics... but I couldn’t stop talking about graphic novels and comics! So manga gets its own category.
Death Note
Don’t tell me you haven’t read Death Note. No, literally don’t tell me. Take the energy you were going to use to type that out and go to your library and check out the first book. You know what? Just buy the whole series. This is the best manga of all time. It’s iconic, it’s got a great following, it provides everything from lighthearted comedy to cutthroat political analysis—you need to read Death Note. I literally am not taking no for an answer go read it right now. (And watch the anime! And, personally, I enjoy the original Japanese live action film. It’s silly beyond all rights, but so much fun.)
Arakawa Under the Bridge
Not sure why this one seems to be so niche. Kou, a hapless businessman, accidentally falls into the debt of a young woman named Nino and will do anything to repay her—including becoming her boyfriend?! Unfortunately, Nino claims to be a Venusian, and even less fortunately, she lives with a group of weirdos under the bridge at Arakawa. Proves that when it comes to manga, it’s less about the premise and more about how the mangaka executes it; within a volume you’re sure to be obsessed with these characters and ready to follow them to the ends of the earth... or Venus. Admittedly I don’t know what it would be like to read this series without the cosmic soul-knowledge that Sister is a transbian; warning for transmisogyny therein.
DOUBT (Judge, Secret)
Go Tonogai Yoshiki give us nothing! These three series are my go-to when I need my brain firmly off and entertained. With twisting murderous mystery plots, the highest of stakes, and a cast distinguished solely by hairstyle (or, for the ladies, breast size!), this is my equivalent of reading trashy romance. Like eating an entire bag of cheese puffs but at the bottom you find the depths of human depravity and a twist that makes no sense. With that said, I still respect Tonogai and am enjoying watching his writing mature.
My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness
LGBT manga is extraordinarily hard to find at times, and Nagata’s innocently honest memoir (paired, of course, with the sweetest of art styles) feels like a major breakthrough. Fans of both Alison Bechdel and Allie Brosh can come together to enjoy the self-analysis, artistic persona, and deep emotion present in this book. Nagata has since published two sequels, both already available in English, and I recommend continuing to read those, as well! A vibrant read.
The Heart of Thomas
A fascinating look into what would become the massive genre(s) of yaoi, boys’ love, shounen ai, and so on—but, as the genre originator, not any of those things. A book of aesthetic, of emotion, of love, of social strangeness; a book in conversation with, against, supporting, uprooting normative cultural roles. Likely the most niche book I consider an important read—and an easy, if emotionally riotous one.
Children’s Books
Oh, I love a good children’s book. The warmth, the kindness, the care... nothing better than curling up with a book for someone just a little younger.
Alice in Wonderland (The Hunting of the Snark)
If you do not like Alice in Wonderland, maybe I do not like you. These two books (Through the Looking Glass is another book, Tim Burton! Not interchangeable!) completely destroy all my rules about plot and I love them for it. Seasoned readers may enjoy The Annotated Alice, featuring all the context you could ever want, while new readers will be able to enjoy the ridiculous rhymes just fine on their own.
Al Capone Does My Shirts
I am a little taken aback by how much I enjoyed this series. Each book is incredibly easy to read (I once blinked, wondered how long it had been, and saw I was on page 100). The autistic representation is surprisingly solid for its time, the setting is perfectly utilized, and the series is just overall an immensely heartwarming read that manages to maintain suspense throughout. What it says on the tin: a historical fiction piece about a young boy who lives on Alcatraz, while Al Capone works in the laundry.
Rapunzel’s Revenge
We’re back to overlapping categories, because this is also one of my favorite graphic novels, along with its sequel (Calamity Jack). I remember spending hours reading and re-reading this badass Rapunzel retelling as a child, flipping back and forth, absorbing all of the detail in the art and speeding alongside the story. I will also admit that this is still one of my favorite fictional romances, complete with bad-boy-with-a-golden-heart(-and-eggs) and a really adorable ending. I still reread both books often.
The Wish (The Fairy’s Return, Fairest, Ever, Ella Enchanted, The Two Princesses of Bamarre)
Gail Carson Levine is one of my favorite authors of all time, and this is possibly her least known work. The Wish follows Thelma as she accidentally helps a fairy godmother and earns her deepest wish: to be popular. One of my favorite takes on high school popularity structures, beauty, friendship, and magical realism... and a cute little romance, too!
Among the Hidden (Running out of Time, The House on the Gulf, Turnabout, Double Identity, Just Ella)
I owe a lot to Margaret Peterson Haddix and her complex, well-researched, easy-to-read science fiction for children. Her books provide a nice palate-cleanser when you want a simpler dystopian series or something with a more easily resolved mystery, without sacrificing any of the tension or stakes. I’m still inspired by her work to this day, and still trying to catch up to her insane publishing speed!
Young Adult
For similar reasons, I love young adult books. They seem so vibrant, so intense, so dramatic to appeal to teenagers surrounded by the dullest environments possible (and filled with the most complex emotions).
The Alchemyst: Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel
I find high fantasy difficult and series even harder, but this has long been a childhood favorite of mine—a story that keeps twisting and turning and revealing things to the reader, without ever feeling too expository. You really believe that you’re lost in this world with its protagonists, struggling to navigate its magic, and deeply afraid for how it will resolve; a wonderful, very thick, very satisfying read about twin siblings caught up in the end of the world.
Words in Deep Blue
A book that shocks you with how beautiful it is. I am genuinely upset that, because this book is for young adults, it doesn’t have a chance at being appreciated for the meditation on love, death, friendship, work, books, and family it provides. Friends to enemies to lovers, relationships too complex to unwind, love fated for tragedy... A book that sweeps you along like water.
Don’t Look Back
Can I admit something? I often read trash. I often read silly, nonsensical, catty, totally ridiculous nonsense with terrible love triangles and God-awful stock character mean girls. Alright! With that off my chest, here’s Don’t Look Back, marrying your simplest, cheesiest fictional high school tropes to an enticing mystery with a completely ridiculous ending. I pick this up from time to time and am simply swept along the path of the narrative, wagging my finger at the stereotypes while knowing full well they’re exactly what I came for.
Skinny (Can’t Look Away)
And we’re back to the good, important YA. Skinny is a book about a young woman who gets gastric bypass surgery, an experience the author shares, and all the trials and tribulations associated with it... and surviving high school. It’s a kinder look at your favorite high school tropes; a better romance, a more nuanced relationship with popularity, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be happy. I read Skinny often, and I’m always happy to rediscover what it offers. Plus: many, many, many, many wonderful musical references.
Horror/Thriller
The shortcut to suspense: a very good mystery, or else sheer terror. These are a few horror/thriller/mystery books that I find always keep me hooked.
The Couple Next Door
More twists than a rollercoaster. If a character exists in this book, they have a secret, and it’s nothing you’ve ever heard from any normal person. The book’s momentum never stops throughout, the revelations keep on coming, and the resolution is fascinating. Another book I never manage to put down once it’s in my hands. Who stole that baby?! And whose fault is it? The answers may surprise you.
Coraline (Coraline: the Graphic Novel, The Graveyard Book)
Is this horror? I’m not quite sure. As a child, it seemed the most comfortable book in the world... but I could never get past those illustrations of the other mother’s hand. I highly recommend this book if you’ve somehow not yet read it; Gaiman perfectly blends genres to create his masterpiece of child fantasy and adult terror. A forever favorite that only seems to ripen as I get older, with one very well-written cat.
The Visitors
Horrifying. Absolutely mesmerizing in its gorey details. This is a book that manages to tread that line between playing it safe and going overboard; in particular the treatment of women is fascinating and much better than the usual, simply by adding a major female player to complicate the story. When Marion’s brother, John, has a heart attack, she’s forced to take care of the ‘visitors’ in the basement... and confront the truth she’s been hiding from for years.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
A surprisingly good little horror book! I recall reading this for the first time after watching the film, curled up in my room, and being genuinely surprised by how easily it flowed. The plot is simple, as you likely already know—four teens who committed an accidental murder begin receiving threatening notes implying that someone knows what they did last summer... and is out to get revenge.
A Tale Dark and Grimm
You may notice a lot of children’s books on this list (comparatively), and there’s a reason for that—adult horror books just never seem to scare me quite as much. With children, you can’t always show the gore or trauma, so you have to imply it... this book has always been one that unnerved me, particularly with how far the author chose to go. Every fairy tale meets its horrific original version and then somehow has a much more evil, much more painful baby which our main characters have to survive. Promises to destroy your mind.
Fast Pace
A collection of books that move at a fast pace simply because the author is an incredible talent who knows how to get you engrossed. These books can be from any genre and from any age range; the only requirement is that they move at the speed of light.
Speak (Speak: the Graphic Novel)
I’m pretty sure every YA book wants to be Speak. A story that accurately relates the depression and apathy of trauma and teenage life while retaining total reader absorption, Speak is another book you can’t put down once you start, and it’s practically guaranteed to have you sobbing like a baby by the end. Unfortunately, this famous book seems to be fading slightly out of the zeitgeist, despite its eternal quality and relevance.
The Hate U Give
Unfortunately, in the wake of the “read a book by a minority to ‘educate yourself’” trend, Angie Thomas’s incredible skill at writing has been overlooked in order to mark this book as Important Because You Will Learn About Race From It. The Hate U Give is a powerhouse of a book; the only story I’ve almost missed a train stop for. There is no putting this book down, and the pages fly by like nothing else. Impossible to overhype; go read it now.
After the Shot Drops (The Patron Saints of Nothing)
A story where you know from the start that everybody can’t be satisfied. Someone—likely everyone—will face drastic sacrifice. Ribay pulls no punches; I’ve yet to meet a reader who 1) didn’t stay up far too late reading this 2) didn’t get emotionally demolished by that ending. I itch to re-read this one; it’s been far too long since I was engrossed in it. Full disclosure: I know Ribay and he’s a great guy who has wonderfully influenced my writing; I have a personal interest in getting him readers.
The Devil Wears Prada
I know! I know! You’ve seen the film! Well, I’m here to tell you that the book is horrifically fun to read; there’s something so much more satisfying about drama in page-turns. Indie-published and unhindered by the MPAA, this book is able to cuss with abandon and make sniping comments without ever worrying what you’ll think about it. Like that friend of yours you know ought not to be such a terrible gossip, but whom you never seem to stop when she gets going...
American Born Chinese (Boxers & Saints, Level Up, The Eternal Smile, Dragon Hoops)
Sometimes you read a book and you discover that an author is a genius. This is how I felt on my first read of ABC, unraveling the intertwined and inescapable threads of the narratives. Yang is somehow still criminally underrated despite his consistently incredible, beautifully-drawn, warm-hearted, and engrossing work; I highly recommend you take a look at everything he has to offer. ABC in particular, I believe, brings something fresh and new to the scene that I’d never seen before, and allows for a unique blend of genres and styles to appear together without ever breaking connection.
Slow Burn/Romance
Because some of the best tension comes from a really, really, really good romance. A good variety here of romance, fantasy-romance, and plain science fiction which simply happens to contain the greatest love story of all time.
They Both Die at the End (More Happy Than Not, What if It’s Us)
The premise is simple: two boys, fated to die in the next 24 hours, meet to enjoy their last day together. The world, of course, is not—as usual, Silvera weaves a many-layered and complex story that, while most closely focused on two characters, is really about all of us on Earth. This is a romance that roots from friendship; this is a relationship that lasts forever in a day. One of my favorite, most pure-hearted relationships in fiction.
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown
The town may be cold, but the romance sure is hot! (Sorry.) This is, tragically, my one and only vampire romance; I’ve never read anything that can hold a candle to it. Black knows exactly how to taunt you with sensual imagery, brief moments of vulnerability, and just-a-little-too-bad boys. Not just that, but the plot is the perfect combination of that natural unwinding path of a well-planned story and a rollercoaster of twists and reveals that always keeps you guessing. On any given reread I’m bound to go “Oh my God, NOW I get why that happened!” a dozen times.
The Darkest Part of the Forest
Oops, All Holly Black Recs! But again, this book took me on a rollercoaster of bad fae boys and complicated romance, and this time there were well-written love triangles and nuanced views on promiscuity and parasocial relationships and tragic gay characters and hope and magic and my God you just have to read this one too. Most importantly, not once does it feel as though Black is repeating herself. A godsend.
Brokeback Mountain
At its slim length (only 55 pages!) this novella is well worth sitting down for a read all in one go. The film captures none of the original text’s interiority, where the story leaves us alone with the thoughts of its players to stew in their loneliness and lust, never stopping the plot for a moment. An author like this can make you hang onto their every word of description; an author like this makes you feel loved. Cannot recommend highly enough this iconic story of two cowhands in love.
The Left Hand of Darkness
We simply must ask whether The Left Hand of Darkness invented romance. This is a book that treats love like more than love itself; like love is a force and a war and a culture and a body unto itself. I will not lie to you; the first chapter is quite hard to get through, but the second Genly Ai, our hapless narrator, starts talking to these genderless aliens, you’re hooked. Prepare to follow this romance to the ends of the planet... and possibly a little bit farther.
The Scorpio Races
Right, sorry, okay—if LHoD invented romance, perhaps The Scorpio Races invented rivals to lovers. Perhaps The Scorpio Races invented rivals as lovers. Puck and Sean both need to win the deadly Scorpio Races, for drastically different reasons. The two are as alike as they are different, and form their own impossible-yet-natural relationship over the course of the book. The pacing is tight, the characterization is incredible, and you can almost taste the salt from the sea. One book that never loses its touch.
Memoir/Biography/Autobiography
I didn’t always love memoirs, but I’ve found as of late that many of my favorite books just happen to fall into this category. You’ll find some overlap here with the graphic novels section; I love graphic memoirs and am bound to recommend them.
Maus
I occasionally forget that not everyone has read Maus. A book that changed the world’s perception of comics; Spiegelman has since published his dozens of rejection letters from publishers who couldn’t see how to sell “a comic memoir about the Holocaust where all the Nazis are cats and the Jews are mice”. Of course, Maus is now widely known as one of the best comics, records of the Holocaust, and books in general, because of the compilation of these seemingly disparate features. Spiegelman’s art and his father’s words make for a haunting telling.
Smile, Sisters, Guts.
I believe everyone’s also already read these. If not, again, I am not joking when I say you are missing out to the point of being uncultured. For those of us who may have been experiencing hermithood for the past decade, Raina Telgemeier burst onto the graphic novel scene with her graphic memoir, Smile, about her experience knocking her two front teeth out in middle school. It is not an exaggeration to say that she single-handedly caused the current children’s comics boom. Suffice it to say that my home’s copy is rendered practically unreadable by the amount of times the pages have been flipped, held open, and thoroughly loved.
Spinning (A City Inside, i love this part, The End of Summer, On a Sunbeam)
Tillie Walden was what many little girls dreamed of being: a child figure skater on her way to Olympic-level competition. She quit as a teenager, and Spinning tells you why. I believe this is the book that made me fall in love with Walden’s work; her delicate linework and voice resonate throughout every page. This is a book that makes you feel as though you’re making a new friend, as if you are making a new home.
My Friend Dahmer (Trashed)
It’s hard to resist the draw—John Backderf was friends with Jeffery Dahmer, and would like to tell you about him. This is a book that shocked me with its balance of information and narrative; a text that knows how to touch on a delicate topic without sensationalizing. Backderf never pretends to know more than he does, and never tempers his emotions, either. This one’s on my own re-read list!
When You Are Engulfed in Flames (Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls, Calypso)
I really struggled to pick just one to recommend here. I love all of Sedaris’s books, and I’ve chosen When You Are Engulfed in Flames because it’s the most straightforward—most of these stories cover Sedaris’s experience quitting smoking. Sedaris has a real way with words, with metaphor, with narration; I always find myself surprised at just how well he can put a turn of phrase, laughing out loud at a particularly well-worded punchline. And there’s no such thing as stopping at the end of a story, either! When it comes to Sedaris, I finish one book and pick up another; it never, ever ends.
[COMING SOON: Really Good Nonfiction, Really Good Classics, Short Story Collections, Sheer Beauty. I’ll reblog this post as it gets updated with roughly 20 more books, hopefully in the following week (7/5). My 911 Fic Writing Masterlist
(Last edited May 28th 2021)
I’ve finally decided to do a masterpost of all my writing for the show 911 which is the fandom I’ve written the most for. There are 33 fics in this post, holy crap.
(If anyone is interested, I’ve also written for Star Trek AOS, Leverage, the MCU, among many other fandoms.)
As a general note, I’ll say most of my fics have Buddie elements and I also try to have at least one Firefam moment. Also, please check each fic’s warnings.
This is going to be long so most of it will be under a read more.
Last thing, please! If you like any of these stories, please consider leaving a comment and reblogging this post.

How did/do I learn vocabulary?
How did/do I learn vocabulary?
This is a question I’m asked quite often and I usually have a different answer each time. The reason is because I have no set way I learn vocabulary. This post will focus entirely on my experience and journey with vocabulary. Grammar will be a topic for another day. ;)
In my opinion, there is no set way to learn vocabulary. I can’t stare at lists and lists of words and suddenly they’re memorized, but I have! I can’t use flash cards because they take too much time, but I have! Kind of see where I’m going with this? I’m the perfect example of an informal or unstructured learner/studier.
I am a lazy learner. THE LAZIEST. I’m all for fast and easy ways to learn without so much as lifting a finger. Insane, right? Totally. Extremely insane for a beginner like I was. Butttttt, I did it though. Was it smart? Probably not. Did it work? Well… kinda?
I also want to point out that I’ve never studied Japanese in a classroom setting nor have I had tutors to teach me.
Okay, what I did:
I started learning Japanese on June 11, 2018. I’m going to list the resources I’ve done roughly up to this point in time that this is posted.
Please don’t take my views on the apps and resources listed as final say. Everyone learns differently and I suggest you try all of these resources out! Things that don’t work for me, may work for you and vice versa.
DuoLingo. It was the only app I really knew of that was credible. I drilled the crap out of that app! That’s how I got my foundations in kana, my first words, and first kanji!
DuoLingo is good in some ways, but bad in others. It’s perfect for repetition and getting you to think about those words over and over. But that’s also why it’s bad. Each step makes you go through like, what?, four or five tiers or whatever they’re called? By the time you reach that fourth of fifth tier, it’s just annoying to do that pattern over and over again before you can move on. This is just my opinion though, some people thrive off of that. Don’t knock it till you try it, ‘kay? I’ve heard the app has changed some since summer of 2018, so I’ll have to check it out again.
LingoDeer. Gosh, I love LingoDeer. I really need to use it more. It is the best app ever to introduce you to grammar when you have no idea where to start.
Workbooks. I got my first workbooks (not textbooks) at the end of June 2018 (I had been learning for roughly 3 weeks by that time). It was Learning Japanese Hiragana and Katakana and Learning Japanese Kanji Volumes 1 and 2, all published by Tuttle. As I worked through the kana book I managed to learn many vocabulary terms from the exercises in the back with the writing exercises (all spelled in hiragana and katakana, there is no kanji in that workbook). I tried and dabbled lightly in the Kanji Vol 1 book, but I wasn’t ready for that just yet back then.
I ONLY used those resources until the end of August 2018 and added Memrise too my list of apps during that time. I gained A LOT of vocabulary knowledge (and some basic grammar but that’s a post for another day) just from using three apps and a kana workbook over two and a half months.
It was nothing fancy like some people tend to think? I didn’t somehow learn all these words over night.
Textbooks. Genki 1 and it’s workbook was my first ever textbook. This is one of the most widely known textbooks out there for learning Japanese from scratch. Most people know how vocabulary works for that resource. Each chapter introduces vocab and you learn it as you study the grammar and do the exercises.
Um, so, I’m gonna be honest for a second. I HATE TEXTBOOKS. I hate them with a fiery passion. *clenches fist* I stopped using Genki after completing half of the book because I felt like I learned nothing. It just wasn’t the resource for me.
At this point you’re staring hard at your phone, tablet, or computer like WHAT? Yeah… I didn’t hate them at first!! But because of my laziness and informal learning style, I grew to haaaate them. Textbooks are too “cookie cutter” in my opinion. But Taylor, don’t you use one right now? Yes, and let me explainnnnnn. I find that textbooks don’t give you freedom to expand!
Remember when I asked on Instagram what were some things you’d like me to discuss or talk more about? One user messaged me and wrote,
“How [do] you apply grammar and vocabulary? Because I try to come up with sentences on my own then look up examples of its usage but I continuously use the same type of examples. But when I look at other example there is so much vocab and other grammar structures that go into play that I don’t understand, so it’s hard for me to find a balance that will make me push myself but also know that I can decently understand…”
That’s EXACTLY what I struggled with, with Genki! Textbooks only provide examples for that lesson and the grammar it teaches at that point. So you only know those words (and grammar) in those contexts only. You try to make your own sentences but you end up only using those words and those grammar points over and over.
There’s simply no opportunity to expand.
Then when you look up other examples you see other new words (and grammar) and it freaks you out because suddenly you don’t feel like you’ve learned anything! This is the e x a c t reason I hate textbooks.
My answer? For me, I don’t depend on textbooks anymore for vocabulary. They’re amazing for referencing vocabulary and pulling grammar structures, but textbooks only give a limited amount of vocabulary and if that’s all your rely on when learning grammar, it’s going to be rough. It stagnated my learning when I did that.
When I make my own sentences now, I pull vocab I've been learning from apps, social media, reading, etc. I could go on and on about this, but that’s not the point of this post. I’ll discuss my more of my hatred for textbooks later. Same with grammar and how I make my examples and such. I’ve already gone off on a tangent long enough, hehe. (I hope that answered the above question though! If not, I hope future posts will! Or just message me, lol.)
Other textbooks I have used after Genki for vocabulary gain is Basic Japanese by Tuttle and the にほんご90日 series.
YouTube. Japanese Ammo with Misa is my love. I love her videos and her personality. Her teaching style is relaxed, but she gets the job done. She has a wide variety of grammar videos along with lots of other videos related to Japanese and Japan.
After my downfall with Genki 1 and some discouragement that led to a nearly three months hiatus of studying, I started using her videos to get the grammar knowledge I needed in January 2019 (I have been learning (counting the hiatus) for about 6 months at this point).
It’s the perfect things for a lazy learner like me, hehe. I could sit down at my desk and watch one of her videos (they can be anywhere from 8 to 40 minutes long) and watch, pause, and rewind as much as I wanted to write notes with ease. I was learning the grammar I needed to know and learned SO MUCH VOCABULARY.
She uses common words you find in textbooks, but she also throws in culturally relevant words. She references Pokemon, manga, TV/anime, music, etc, vocabulary all the time! She even teaches the informal/casual variations of words along with formal/polite variations and that’s where I gain so, so, so much vocab! I still use and reference those videos to this day!
PRESENT DAY:
Okay, I just explained what I did to start learning vocabulary from the beginning to about ~5 months ago. I rambled a lot, I know… But did you kind of see the point I was hoping to make? I did not stick to one resource for learning vocabulary (and kanji).
I didn’t not, nor do I still, learn vocabulary in a “traditional” way. There is no one way to learn everything you need to know. Over that course of time I learn about ~35-40% of my current vocabulary knowledge. Wait… Taylor… You learned ~35-40% of your vocabulary over the course of 10 months, but you’ve learned the other ~60-65% in less than 5 months? Yes, and I’ll explain below~~~
What I mainly use now, app wise, to gain vocabulary knowledge is Memrise, Quizlet (rarely though), Kanji Tree, and LingoDeer. I even use Instagram to learn new vocab too! I follow users who teach vocabulary (and grammar) with their posts. Yes, you will see lots of repeated terms but that’s exposure and review!
Here are some profiles I really like for introducing vocabulary (new or review): boxofmanga, japanesepod101 (Instagram infographics only), japanese_language_mlc, j_aipon, blue_aoi, and _urabanashi_.
I also suggest you find native Japanese Instagram users. Not just celebrities or idols. I mean average natives who use Instagram the same way we use our private accounts. I follow larger profiles (500+ followers) for the fact that I don’t want to be a creep and follow someone who only has like 100 or 200 followers. So, I follow some “mommy blog” Instagram's because they tend to use simpler vocabulary when referring to their kids. I also follow some book reviewers, writers, and one guy who loves camping! You get to see lots of natural Japanese this way and it shows common words that are used. I don’t understand a lot of it, but I’m being exposed to the language!
And by now you’re asking, “Okay, but how do you learn vocabulary NOW?” I’m going into N4 if you’re going to look at this from a JLPT stand point, but I don’t only learn strictly N5, N4, N3, etc level material. (That’ll be another post too, lol. Pssst… it’s another “cookie cutter” issue with me.)
Well, those apps mentioned above, obviously, but those only make up about ~30% of my vocabulary gain now. I use my textbook にほんご90日 Vol 1 as a reference and gain some vocabulary there and I have a couple JLPT related vocab/kanji lists I use too, so that’s like another ~5% of where I get my vocab.
I get the other ~65% from reading. Yup. Reading. Literally that’s it. I read all the time. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to learn Japanese!
I have a short story digital bundle I read often from TheJapanShop.com and it’s aimed at beginners and becomes “harder” as you move to the next book and so on. I read through them and when my brain sees a word I know I’m like, “Cool.” But when I don’t know a word I see, I either look it up quick and write it in the margin or I continue on. I learn a lot through context clues.
Here’s an example sentence from Story Two in Book One of the Japanese Reader Collection offered from TheJapanShop.com.
「この傘は、雨が降るといつのまにか傘が開き、晴れると傘が閉じている…」
Roughly translated to “This umbrella opened unnoticed when it began raining and upon it becoming sunny the umbrella closed…”
When I read that sentence, I knew all the vocabulary except いつのまにか. The stories have lovely vocabulary guides, so when I looked it up, it said that it meant “before one knows; while unaware” and I took what I knew from the rest of the sentence and managed to learn that new word as a result! This is the best way I could explain how I use reading to expand my vocabulary… ^_^” Just taking what you know and expanding on it over time. I use this same method for grammar, but that’s saved for another post, lol.
I also use NHK New Web Easy to read articles about current events in Japan. It’s set up for native elementary and middle school students so they can read within the kanji and vocabulary they’ve learned so far in life. Guess what? That’s PERFECT for a language learner who has an okay-ish foundation with vocabulary. I learn so much everyday vocabulary that way.
Lastly, I read books and manga. Yup, manga. I don’t use these resources much right now because they’re bigger and more intimidating. I haven’t “officially” started a book but I’ve opened and read passages quite often to sort of test myself. Manga is simpler since there are fewer words than a novel, but they’re bigger than a short story or a news article. You’ve seen on Instagram that I’ve begun reading よつばと! and so far I’m having a blast! I’ll talk about specific things I’m reading later.
Sooooo…. That’s basically it.
Most of my vocabulary gain now is through exposure to Japanese through social media (bless the internet), reading, and some usage of apps like Memrise and LingoDeer. I use no formal education or study plans or any structure at all.
My word retention grew to be nearly double these last ~5 months because I built on what I knew and it grew easier and easier for me to learn and retain those words over these last few months. I never believed it, but there is definitely a language hump. Once you crawl over that, things simply become easier. It just takes A LOT of time and effort (and tears) to get over that hump. But, I believe anyone can do it, you just have to be determined and eager enough.
One tip I like to give is to learn through context. Don’t just learn lists of words and kanji. What’s the point? You can recite them, but can you USE them?
Oh, quick thing, I want to point out about how I personally learn vocabulary. I failed to realize this right away when I started learning Japanese, but quickly caught on and now hold onto this belief firmly.
I learn vocabulary and kanji together.
I do not separate the two. I do not have a separate notebooks for vocabulary and kanji. I don’t even have a notebook at all actually for them, lol. When I post on Instagram that I’m focusing on kanji today, it means I’m just learning vocabulary or reviewing it. The 1026字の正しい書き方 book I use that teaches “kanji” is mainly for vocabulary expansion and how to write those kanji (stroke order). I don’t study the individual meanings of the kanji character, I study the example words it lists. That’s one way on how I’ve been expanding my vocabulary so rapidly.
Kanji is vocabulary.
Kanji should be treated the exact same way that hiragana and katakana are treated in my opinion. Jokingly, kanji is just fancy kana. ;)
If you “fear” kanji, you’ll have a bad time. I joke and say now when I see an insane kanji or a difficult one, “Damn, that’s some angry squiggles right there.” and it makes learning it that much more enjoyable. :)
For example, 食 means “eat, food.” Okay, cool that kanji has a food related meaning. But I’m not going to do that for thousands of kanji especially since each kanji has multiple readings depending on how it’s used. It’s simply impossible! I found I personally learn better when I learn the kanji in it’s “true” form, aka, in WORDS.
食べる - to eat / 食べ物 - food / 食事 - meal / 朝食 - breakfast / etc.
Holy crap, not only did I learn the kanji 食 effectively, I learned four words and THREE other kanji! (I’m over dramatic, I know, lol.)
Vocabulary is all interconnected. You can’t learn one thing without stumbling and learning other things by accident. Learning through exposure is the best in my opinion. It’ll be tough to begin with when you don’t know much and it will cause you to doubt yourself and your ability to learn this language. But, just be patient. Learning five, three, or even one word a day is progress.
Small progress eventually builds up to big progress as Yuta says. ;)
Words are meant to be strung together and form sentences for you to read, enjoy, and react to. That’s why books exist. You read those words and sentences and they make you feel warm and fuzzy or cry or laugh. Don’t keep them at an arm's length and treat it like it’s some delicate flower. Language is a not just lists of words, kanji, and grammar points. It’s a culture and way of life for people. Treat it like an old friend and play with it (or go get a beer with it, ya know, whatever gets this point across, lol)!
I tend to treat language learning like I’m a curious five year old. I’m constantly asking questions and discovering new things and it just sparks that fire that makes you want to explore more and more.
I don’t take it seriously (from an academic view) and that’s why I find some stuff so easy. It only becomes difficult if you make it difficult. Everyone learns differently. There is no one way to learn Japanese and there is no one way to learn specific parts of Japanese. Also, don’t compare yourself! It only ends in self doubt and discouragement.
Explore and try out all sorts of things. Try out the free apps, read articles online, watch YouTube videos, just do SOMETHING. Don’t look for the “perfect” resource or routine. Just. STUDY. You’ll find in time what works for you and what doesn’t.
Language learning is no race. There is no ribbon or trophy at the end for becoming fluent overnight. Take your time and enjoy the process, you’ll be learning your whole life, ‘kay?
I’ll talk further on how I review it in another post. :)

what is best options trading course Arkansas Thats EXACTLY what this is.
Heres My ScorecardOne year after starting, with over a thousand executions, lots of late nights trading the US market from Asia, and endless hours of studying, Ive logged a total profit of $29,753. Below is the breakdown per month. April and May of this year are write-offs because I was inactive. I hid under the blanket as the market was in free fall. I was pretty crafty in March, trading bearish strategies, but I put on only a single trade in April that was buying a put option on the S&P in case the market tanked further. We know that didnt happen and so I lost that money. And in May, I didnt put any new trades. My only activity was rolling existing positions further out in time. Excluding those two months, my average return on capital at risk was 1. 6% for a total annual return of 16. 4%Whats worth noting is, even though my average capital at risk was $186,000/month, my trade duration was, on average less than two weeks. Meaning I only had $96k of capital at risk at any one time, rather than $186k. I would close the existing trades before entering the new trades, and thus, recycle the same capital. Why is that important?Because it doubles my return to 32. 8% instead of 16. 4% (29,753 divided by 96k instead of 186k). But putting these accounting shenanigans aside, lets see what the more conservative calculation of a 16. 4% return means. If I had invested my $186,000 into the S&P500 last July, I would have gained 5% ($9,300) as thats the amount the index was up over that period. Just a month earlier, that number would have been in negative territory as the index was lower. In contrast, I locked in my revenue after each options trade was closed.
options trading advice paid Arkansas They can range anywhere from a week to multiple years until the policy expires.
In this story, it was a chance meeting with my first boss in the financial industry. The guy that mentored and taught me how to trade stocks in the first place. For the purpose of this post, Im going to refer to him as Suzy. While at work one day, Suzy reached out, saying he was in Hong Kong with his family (where I was working at the time) and wanted to catch up for a beer. I had completely lost touch with him ever since he left the industry a few years prior to this meeting. I was both excited and curious to see what he was up to. After the usual formalities and a beer in, I asked him. He responded by saying, I trade options for a living. I was confused. My face resembled a deer in headlights doing a Derek Zoolander impression. He tried to explain the gist of it, but it was way over my head.
alan ellman offers proven advice on stock and options trading strategies Arkansas If you continue to do your research, you will spot additional opportunities.
When you think therell be a move either up or down, but are unsure of which way, this is the strategy to use. Another is deep in the money covered calls around ex-dividend days. The reason for my interest in these two strategies is that they are generally closed within just a couple of days, thereby minimizing market exposure. Its, therefore, possible to increase returns while also reducing my exposure to the market movements. Sure, itll involve countless hours more of studying, but despite my mathematically challenged brain, its pretty fun. Imagine your back at school, and your Algebra 101 teacher tells you hell hand over a wad of cash if you work out the problem. Thats EXACTLY what this is. HustlinEven if you hate your job, you likely have some nuggets of wisdom from your experiences to parlay into a profitable side hustle. I had enough of pushing buttons for a living. And so I dedicated my time and effort, transforming my experiences into a side hustle that would provide personal and financial rewards. Most importantly, outside of an office setting.
youtube

What surprised me was how much I loved hitting the freakin buttons again! And making money from home was surreal after being shackled to an office for the last decade.
make millions trading options Arkansas Option traders use the straddle options strategy when they are unsure about the direction of an upcoming price change, but are confident in the intensity of the price change.
Theres a lot you can do to repair and make it profitable once again.
options trading on robinhood Arkansas Yes, I may sound cynical, but Im calling it how it is.
Like most things in life, its daunting at first, but then you get the hang of it. And it even becomes fun. What surprised me was how much I loved hitting the freakin buttons again! And making money from home was surreal after being shackled to an office for the last decade. Grasping Options TradingOptions trading makes me think of the magnetic toy blocks my kids play with. You can arrange them in any which way, depending on what youre trying to achieve. What I mean is, there are endless combinations of strategies you can set up depending on your view of the market. If you think the market is trending higher, youll use one set of strategies. If youre unsure of which way the stock will move, but think therell be a decent move in either direction, there are strategies for that. And if you think the market is in a downtrend, just use those strategies! And these strategies have some pretty cool names: iron condor, bull call spread, calendar straddle, and iron butterfly. Okay, so that all sounds fancy pancy, but what is an actual stock option?Simply put, a stock option contract gives the holder the right to buy or sell a set number of shares for a pre-determined price over a defined time frame. Investopedia. comIts pretty straight forward. You can think of it as an insurance policy. If youre a portfolio manager, managing someones retirement money, then you may think its a good idea to protect your portfolio against a significant drop. If the S&P 500 is trading at around 3,000, then perhaps youll want to protect against a decline of more than 20%. This protection can be achieved by purchasing options contracts at the price of 2,400 (20% below the current market). Whats remarkable is that you or I can be the one selling the options contract in that example. All we need to do is place a sell order on an options exchange. What threw me off initially was learning how trading options for income is no different from being an insurance salesman. Many options traders consider themselves to be in the insurance industry. I was in awe as I read the book: The Option Traders Hedge Fund.

5 Smart Ways to Get Your Clients to Pay Your Rates
If you’re a freelancer, you are probably getting paid much less than you’re worth for the following reasons.
One, you are influenced by what your competitors are charging – why charge $1500 for that web design project that everybody else is charging $600 for? Two, you are afraid clients won’t pay your rates. Three, you are competing with a sea of "professionals" who will happily charge one-tenth of what you’re supposed to charge.
Good news is, no matter your reasons for charging low, you could be getting paid double, triple, or more. Here are some tips to help you.
6 Important Tips to Getting More Design Projects

Graphic designers and web designers were among the most hit with the receding economy. With clients opting to... Read more
1. Upgrade Your Belief in Yourself
If you find it difficult to convince yourself that your service is worth a premium, nothing can be done to help you get paid what you are worth.
This first step is often the most difficult and everything else becomes easy once you get it right: make sure you believe strongly in the value you’re offering to your clients.
Tumblr media
If you are a freelance designer, start thinking about how your client will benefit from your design for the next 1-2 years; your design will probably help your client make back 50 to 100 times what they are paying you. If that is the case, why not double your rates?

You should also look at the top people in your field to see what they are doing right as well as how confidently they are charging what they’re worth; you will be surprised that they are easily charging 10 to 50 times more than what you are charging.
Motivating yourself by studying these people and their experiences will surely go a long way to help you solidify your belief in yourself.
2. Have a Clear Unique Selling Point
If you are "just another web designer" or "a top WordPress designer," then, I’m sorry to burst your bubble, no one will pay what you deserve. Almost everybody is "just another web designer" or a "top WordPress designer," so it will be very difficult to convince your clients to pay you a premium if that’s how you position yourself.

Have a clear unique selling point (USP) that helps your client realize that they are getting a service that they can’t get anywhere else. Your USP could be about your approach, the kind of clients you work with, the kind of clients you actively send away, the niche you work in, etc.
Tumblr media
Having a USP will send some clients away, and that’s a good thing; you are carefully repelling the clients you don’t want, who probably won’t pay what you are worth so that you can get clients that will value what you have to offer.
For a detailed guide on finding your USP, this article is a must-read.
3. Values in Premium Service
When it comes to selling your services, there are two kinds of value you can offer to a client. They are:
Inherent value: the main value in your offer; what will result in long-term results for your clients (essentially the quality and effectiveness of your work).
Perceived value: the value your client believes/feels they will be getting; the reason for hiring you
Perceived value is not necessarily inherent value but it is often just as important. No client will hire you without feeling strongly about the perceived value of your product. Besides making sure your service can stand the test of time, you also need to make sure your client is convinced they will be getting a premium service (perceived value), otherwise, you would have little luck closing deals with clients.
No matter how great the value of your services, if your client won’t feel like they’re getting a deal, it would be difficult to get them to work with you.
Tips to Increase Perceived Value
#1. Increase your prices: double it, triple it, whatever. Just increase it. Increasing the price of a product or service has been psychologically proven to increase its perceived value.
In a study where subjects were asked to taste the same wine but were made to believe that one is worth $5 and the other is worth $45, they reported more satisfaction after tasting the $45 wine. It had nothing really to do with the quality of the wine; they just felt that they were getting premium wine.
So, want to make clients feel that you offer a premium service? Charge a premium rate!
Tumblr media
#2. Offer exceptional support: This will make a client feel that they’re not just buying your service but they also feel that they’re buying you.
Offering exceptional support even before you close a deal with a client can go a long way to convince the client that your service is worth a premium.
#3. Use Social Proof: When potential clients see that a lot of people are using your services, they feel it is worth a premium.
You could use just one of the above 3 principles and still get great results. However, if you can combine all 3 you’ll be surprised at the results you’ll get.
4. Attract Your Clients the Right Way
When you are bidding for clients on sites like oDesk or Elance, where the average hourly rate for writers and designers is around $10, you can’t expect to get away with charging $80 per hour no matter what you do.
It will simply be difficult to convince your client that you are offering more value than the 20 other writers who want to charge a fraction of your rates.
This is why you should be careful with how you get clients; if you are getting them on bidding sites or by competing with dozens of other freelancers, they already have lots of potential candidates to choose from, it will be difficult convincing them to choose you and pay your "heavy" rates.
Tumblr media
Alternative Attractions
Instead, take charge of how you attract your clients. I favor an approach where I get a client to come to me instead of having to seek out the client.
Basically, this can involve having a website or blog and then advertising your services in one way or the other – it could be via social media, PPC, or by appearing regularly on authoritative blogs in your niche.

My suggestion is to build a blog about the type of service you offer, regularly publish content on it, showcase case studies in your niche, and appear on relevant blogs to contribute value while promoting your brand.
5. Sell Value, not Money
Your clients are making a business decision and as a result, they do not care about the money they are spending but about the value they are getting by spending that money.
If a client pays $500 for your design and makes $2,000 back in one year, that is an ROI of 400%. If a client pays $2,000 for your web design and makes $100,000 back as a result in one year that is an ROI of 5,000%. In this case, your client would be willing to spend $2,000 instead of $500.
The key to closing deals isn’t to tell your client how much they will be saving if they pay your rates but to tell them how much they will be making. To most real clients, it probably won’t make much of a difference to spend $2,000 instead of $500 but it will make a lot of difference to make a profit of $98,000 instead of a profit of $1,500.

This is what you should use to convince clients to pay your rates. If possible, look for relevant case studies from past clients who have gotten great ROI from using your services. Use these case studies to convince your clients to pay your rates.

Your clients won’t come and hand you what you deserve and your market won’t determine a fair price for your work. Instead, use the above tips to get clients to pay you what you are worth.

Note
199 chars, I got cites. I'll stick to actions and militia/cult behavior. The sniper attack on power station citation is you missing my point. Antifa has no weapon stockpiles or military training. The groups law enforcement see as a threat are the militias: "Law Enforcement Assessment of the Violent Extremist Threat". PBS: "armed militia groups surging across nation" Cult stuff: Business Insider:"right-wing-militias-recruit-young-soldiers-on-4chan-2017-5" psychologytoday:"the mind the militias".
Firstoff, pastebin.com is definitely the go-to for things like this -there’s no way anyone can make a cohesive argument in that tiny askbox. Just say “pastebin: and it’ll get you past that “no URLs”filter tumblr imposes. But I can answer these points/sources here:
Have you heard of the John Brown club? They’rean antifa group - the usual insane anarchists - and they’re showingup at protests carrying loaded weapons. The Phoenix group inthat article made a video of themselves doingrange practice. I believe that qualifies as training, youknow, with those weapons you say they don’t have. What fucking training do you think the right-wingmilitias have besides target shooting and playing paintball in thewoods? In other words, exactly what these people are doing?
And what the fuck do you mean stockpiles? Bro,I don’t know if you’re aware, but we live in America - you know, that free country? If you want a gun, are over 21,and don’t have a felony conviction on your record, you can walkinto any store, do 5 minutes of paperwork, wait for them to call theFBI background-check database and walk out with a new long gun. It’sthat fuckin simple. And they’re not that expensive either, you canget a decentAR-15 pattern rifle for under $500, easily. Same for ammo -you can easily buy bulk, online. The only state where both of thoseare harder is California, and I imagine that suits the huge mobs ofclub-armed antifa cunts just fine, because semi-auto firearms with large reloadable magazines are the best way to counter thugs that badly outnumber you. Stockpiles? That crazy fuck that shot the hell out of a US Representative and two Capitol police officers was using an SKS, a fucking WWII era Soviet rifle that loads from the top with fucking stripper clips. And look how much damage he did - it’s only pure dumb luck that nobody was killed or mortally wounded.
... stockpiles?  Just how much do you know about guns? Here’s what I found in literally five goddamned seconds on ammoseek.com - you got $290, a credit card, and a shipping address? There you go, a thousand goddamned rounds of .223 Remington. Want two thousand? Three? Change the number in the “quantity” box.
Stockpiles?
Anyway, I’m not surprised that PBS and pals are back at their fake news, doing their damnedest to gin up right-wing militias as the real threat even as they reply to attack after violent attack by radical Islamists with hey - not all Muslims! Yes, that is the trend; witness this Atlantic article trying to justify it.  But that’s beside the point. For starters, if you haven’t read my 6,500 word post on left wing vs right wing violence and violent rhetoric, I go into some depth with the whole militia thing there. For all their LARPing in the woods, swaggering and shit-talking, there hasn’t been any significant violence committed by right-wing militias since... forever, considering that Timothy McVeigh was never really part of one - and his attack was twenty-two years ago. Moreover, I cover how his attack - and the attention it drew to the militia movement - sent anywhere from “2/3rds” to “80%” (according to two different militia-affiliated folks being interviewed) scrambling away from them at high speed. Protip - actual terrorist organizations tend to attract attention when they manage huge, spectacular attacks - you know, like how Black Lives Matter is still going strong after multiple ambush attacks on cops? Gee.
And that brings us to the essential point -  if these militias are really dangerous, and not just a bunch of shit-talking LARPers playing soldier in the woods - then where’s the violence? Again, as I document in that post, the only “cells” they find are a few shitheads talking shit in a bar too close to an FBI informant that eggs them on - one of them even gave them free automatic rifles to shoot, to get them all excited.
As for this study, it’s a start, but this paper freely and breezily equates “anti-government extremism” with “right-wing extremism,” and that’s a false equivalency - because Antifa are anarcho-communists. Just read their handy-dandy guide to setting up an antifa group, where they call the state their enemy multiple times - as well as cops. Shit, they have a whole section on “state repression.” Also note the bit under “political orientation,” where they openly state - in case there was any doubt - that the majority of their membership in the US are anarchists. In case you weren’t aware, anarchists are, by definition, anti-government extremists. The list on page 4 covers “anti-capitalist violent extremism,” but considering that antifa are anarchists and anti-capitalists - where do they fall in the reporting? Did every agency report them the same? In light of antifa’s own literature (again, that guide) advocating strongly that they not even name their groups and keep their identities secret as long as possible, how accurate is each agencies accounting? Hell, where do right-wing terrorist groups fall on this scale, considering there’s several anti-immigration militias that focus on finding and reporting illegal immigrants? Doesn’t that qualify as racist? Or are they anti-government, considering that anti-government sentiments tend to run pretty strong in groups like that, especially with a black Democrat in office who personally did as much as he could to hamper border control efforts?
Shit, by their own admission on page 4, they defined “Al-Qaeda inspired violent extremism” as “violent extremism inspired by the radical Islamist ideas advocated by al-Qaeda and other like-minded extremist groups,” and every other category with one general example; “violent extremism motivated by any other political, social, or religious concerns, including, but not limited to, anti-government, racist, radical, environmentalist, or anti-capitalist views. Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, the Unabomber (Ted Kaczynski,) and the Sikh temple shooter, Wade Michael Page, are examples of ‘other violent extremists.” So they only define one category well, loosely define the others, and then they start standing around characterizing the results with terminology (right wing, left wing) they didn’t even use in the fucking survey? When all those other categories were lumped together into “other violent extremism” in other categories?
And then there’s other data-sets - one just adds up every every crime committed by “groups or individuals with far-right associations,” (which would include every skinhead robbing a gas station, which they do a lot, because skinheads are dime-store hoods almost by definition,) and the well defined report - focusing on premeditated plots by individuals or groups that rise to the level of attempted or actual domestic terrorism,” has a whopping total of... 34 incidents listed in 14 years, and is published by the Anti-Defamation League, which is a fucking activist group, not academics, or law enforcement. Wew lad. The Global Terrorism database is better - more data, and a good definition of qualifying incidents - but it’s only being compared to Islamic extremist terrorist attacks in the US, not left wing domestic terrorism, which is what we’re discussing here.
Bruh, this is some pretty rough shit, here - all twelve pages of it. Especially that bit at the end where they make a claim about how law enforcement agencies see “right wing terrorism” (a phrase used nowhere in their survey to said law enforcement agencies) as a bigger threat in the city than in rural areas. Yeah, dense urban areas, which overwhelmingly vote Democrat, as anyone who’s seen a county-by-county electoral map can tell you, are the hotbeds of right-wing militias?
Bruh. Bruh.
But, listen, you’re actually doing your fucking homework here, which is more than most assholes can say, so lemme help you. The FBI is a great resource here - not only do they publicly publish huge annual reports on all sorts of categories of violence, (law enforcement officers killed and assaulted, general crime stats, hate crime stats, etc,) but they watch fucking everyone. There is no group too big or too small for them to not worry about - they’re basically a domestic surveillance agency. That’s why you have agents going out of their way to hand out automatic rifles to a trio of knuckle-dragging rednecks to egg them on till they can arrest them - these guys have time and resources to spare, apparently. They watch everyone - and they cover them, too, with published reports. I’ve read their reports on motorcycle gangs, and in researching that big post on violence, I found (and used) their public information on the “Sovereign Citizen” movement, which is definitely right-wing. While we’re at it, here’s their page on anarchist extremism. Note that page is out of date, though:
For today’s generation of American anarchist extremists, the rioting that disrupted the 1999 World Trade Organization meetings in Seattle is the standard by which they measure “success”—it resulted in millions of dollars in property damage and economic loss and injuries to hundreds of law enforcement officers and bystanders. But fortunately, they haven’t been able to duplicate what happened in Seattle…
LOL HAMBURG. But you get my point - the FBI watches everyone, even esoteric groups like anti/pro abortion “activists” that get a little out of hand. So the FBI is an excellent primary source to go to - certainly better than another PBS hit piece which is also regurgitating data from the “Anti-Defamation League” and making claims of “thousands” of people flooding to the Sovereign Citizen movement, without citing any source at all. Especially when they started in on how dangerous sovereign citizens are! As I noted in my big effortpost (see that for the links,) Sovereign Citizens managed to kill six police officers since the year 2000 - but twenty officers have been ambushed and murdered in 2016 alone, with multiple attacks committed by black people acting on black separatist/revolutionary rhetoric, including the Dallas shooting (killing five and wounding nine) and the Baton Rouge shooting nobody seems to have heard about (killing three and wounding three.) The latest ambush murder of a police officer in New York was similarly motivated - I haven’t even counted the ambush killings of cops in 2017 yet. But yeah, man, the fuckin right wing millitias are the real threat! Hooooo boy, how fucking hard can they shill?
Anyway, here’s the FBI’s resources page, complete with all their copious reports in .pdf format, including several on terrorism related topics. I’ll bet $5 you can make a better argument than fuckin PBS with just what you find here. I’d also track down the sources cited in that 12 page “paper” you linked and read them yourself, see what you can get out of them. That should be a good start, at least.

Our group scoured the web, wrecked our brains, and spoke with other side hustle professionals to create this genius list of concepts so you can earn money online starting today. 1. Take Part In Market Research (Up to $100+ Each Month). Market research business like to collect information on consumer interests, and costs practices, so brands can find out how to make passive income their products. They mainly do this research this via online surveys, and they're always on the lookout for new survey participants. And yes, they'll pay you. If you've ever hung out taking paid online surveys, you know that you can earn money online on a monthly basis while sitting in your home in your PJs. If you're a first-time survey taker, we advise beginning with Survey Junkie.
How to make money online
No-risk matched wagering. By far the quickest way to make a lot of money. Online surveys. Spent for searching the web. Online market trading. Start your own site. Evaluation websites & apps for cash. The 'Disney Vault' secret. ' Earn money To' websites. Here's how Survey Junkie works:. Take Surveys: Construct your profile (takes less than 5 mins) and you'll be matched with studies. Take Advantage of Money Back Signup Perks. Want $15 for a couple of minutes of your time? Obviously you do! Lucky for you, there are websites like Ebates and DOSH that are using cash incentives for individuals like you to join their sites.
Tumblr media
What's the catch? None, truly. Cash back apps serve as affiliates for numerous online merchants, which implies that whenever you purchase through among the apps, they get a little commission-- however then, they provide you a portion of that commission as "cash back". For instance, if I purchase a set of Nike shoes through the Ebates app (or site) and invest $75, Ebates might get a $10 commission however then they'll pass $7 back to me. It's generally a method to get price on stuff that isn't on sale! Ebates: $10 signup perk after making $25 of certifying purchases within 90 days. DOSH: $5 benefit provided quickly after you connect a credit or debit card to the app. (Note: Often they bump the signup benefit to $10). Given that they're free, we advise signing up for both. Whenever you are online shopping, just compare offers between the apps to discover the best one. 3. Open a High-Yield Online Savings Account. Do you have money being in a savings account that's paying.05% interest? If so (or if you don't have a savings account at all), it's worth your time to spend a couple of minutes opening an online savings account. Here's why:. Online savings accounts generally come with insane great interest rates to help you grow your money quicker (regular in-person banks can't offer rates as high). We're fans of CIT Bank and Discover Bank (among others) because their rate of interest are frequently over 25 times the national average. That implies the money in your savings account will grow 25 times faster than the speed it's most likely growing at now. Really, though, you can't fail with pretty much any online savings account that uses over 1.50% APY. 4. Make Money by Viewing Videos on Your Phone. I pointed out Swagbucks previously as a credible survey site, however it ends up that's not the only thing they'll pay you for. You can also earn money online with Swagbucks by enjoying short videos in whatever category you select, like entertainment, news, or physical fitness. $ 5 Signup Perk for new users. Select videos to view on your computer system, tablet, or cellphone. Numerous great videos from leading material sites. DollarSprout's Swagbucks Review. 5. Download the Nielsen App and Gather $50 Per Year. Have you heard of Nielsen, the business that tracks TV scores? Turns out they gather information on a lot more than just TV. One location they're really into is internet usage research. What does that mean for you? It suggests Nielsen will pay you $50 a year to keep their app on your favorite internet browsing gadget. The app itself gathers statistics on your internet use anonymously, so you never ever have to stress over any data being linked to you. And the best part is, the app uses up hardly any area and does not decrease your phone or tablet at all! Here's how Nielsen Computer & Mobile Panel works:. It is noninvasive and will not impact device efficiency. After you've installed the app, simply use the internet as typical. You'll make $50 for the very first year you have the app set up. 6. Earn Money Online by Surfing the Web. InboxDollars is another marketing research company that pays you to utilize their online search engine instead of a few of the more prominent ones like Google and Bing. The idea here is that they will discover more about individuals search routines and uncover patterns that might be valuable to business attempting to much better comprehend consumers. InboxDollars isn't a get-rich-quick plan, but if you're questioning how to make money online for free, you may as well make a couple of extra bucks for browsing the web like you typically would. Here's how InboxDollars works:. $ 5 Signup Benefit for new users. You get $0.15 for every single 4 qualified searches you complete. Get $0.05 each time you total 4 or more searches in a week. See our complete InboxDollars evaluation. 7. Earn Money to Evaluate Sites. Website testers offer their opinions on sites, including the style, quality, and ease of use of a website. This allows business to make changes to their websites in order to offer a much better experience for their users (and hopefully increase sales). Naturally, they want to pay for your feedback, which makes this one of the simplest ways to make passive income without paying anything yourself. UserTesting: $10 for every 10-15 minute test finished. No web cam needed. WhatUsersDo: $8+ for 15-20 minute tests. You'll need a microphone. UserTest: $10.50 per research study. Begin in as little as 5 minutes. 8. Freelance Writer. The term "starving artist" certainly does not use here. What is Overnight Freedom Ultra Edition?
This is essentially an affiliate marketing training program that is completely available online and will teach you all of the details of becoming an affiliate marketer.
It shows you how you can make six and seven figures through this career as well as four specific methods that you can make huge profits. These are:
Earning a high-percentage of commission based on low-ticket digital products. A low ticket digital product is a lower priced product positioned to be the “intro” into your suite of products. It is usually the first exchange of payment for your customers, and so should be the first natural step that leads into your high ticket product / recurring products.
Earning recurring commission based on monthly recurring-products. Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) is the predictable recurring revenue earned from subscriptions in a particular month. It includes the recurring items in your subscriptions such as coupons, discounts, recurring add-ons, etc. One-time charges like setup fees, non-recurring add-ons, any non-recurring ad hoc charges, and the amount charged towards taxes are not included.
Earning high CPA commission from physical and digital products. CPA marketing, also known as cost per action marketing, is a style of the affiliate marketing model that offers a commission to the affiliate when a specific action is completed. The lead action can be anything from making a purchase to getting a quote, watching a video, or filling out a form.
Earning high commission from high-ticket offers. A high ticket digital product is a higher priced digital product usually something like a video course or online masterclass, but it could also be software or a hybrid coaching program for example (hybrid coaching is video plus live coaching). By focusing on the high ticket product first, you can create a larger amount of revenue in a shorter space of time and can then invest your time and resources into marketing other products in the products system.

15+5+5 To Watch : 102119
15 TO WATCH/5 SPORTS TECH/POWER OF SPORTS 5: RICK HORROW’S TOP SPORTS/BIZ/TECH/PHILANTHROPY ISSUES FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 21
with Jacob Aere
As the new NBA season tips off this week, TV networks and the brands that back them firm up programming plans. ESPN’s morning show “First Take” will run live from their Los Angeles Production Center October 21-25 as the 2019-2020 NBA regular season begins. The show will have the latest insight on marquee matchups including Tuesday’s showdown between the Los Angeles Lakers and L.A. Clippers. On TNT, Turner Sports announced that the “Inside the NBA Presented by Kia” studio team of Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson will be on the road for Autotrader Premiere Week. Tuesday night's studio coverage will be live from the NBA on TNT American Express Road Show in L.A. in an expanded pregame show that will feature the NBA Champion Toronto Raptors' ring ceremony and live looks from Toronto's Jurassic Park. NBA TV has also cemented a range of new original programming for the NBA season, including “The Warmup presented by Ford.” It’s no surprise that the Lakers enter the season with the most expensive NBA ticket, at an average $286.97, according to TickPick; the cheapest ticket for Tuesday’s season opener is $150.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is already reporting that the league’s losses from its dispute with China are “substantial.” Chinese footwear and apparel brands couldn’t be more pleased. JohnWallStreet notes the Chinese government’s reaction to Daryl Morey’s tweet and the NBA’s response sparked conversations about the billions of dollars that the NBA stands to lose in Asia and the “ripple effects” that a prolonged boycott of the league would have on U.S. footwear and apparel companies. However, little attention has been paid to how the controversy benefits Chinese footwear and apparel providers; namely Anta and Li-Ning, the two with ties to the NBA. Matt Powell of NPD Group laid out a scenario where “the government encourages its people to buy Chinese as opposed to Western products.” Should that happen, the Chinese people would be likely to comply; remember, the Chinese consumer is “Chinese first and a fan of the NBA second.” Of course, Anta and Li-Ning products are also immune to the headwinds that western competitors like Nike and Adidas face from the greater U.S.-China trade war.
TV broadcasters and streamers invested $38 billion in sports rights in 2018, nearly double the $20 billion spent in 2012. Globally, TV broadcasters, and to a lesser degree, online streamers, fork out 26% of their total content spend on sports rights, according to a report published last Wednesday by Ampere Analysis and carried by the Hollywood Reporter. The market for sports rights has nearly doubled in the last six years, from $20 billion in 2012 to $38 billion last year. The U.S. remains the largest single market for sports rights, with a $19 billion annual spend, a figure likely to jump as new rights cycles kick in for the NFL, MLB, and the NBA. Ampere forecasts the top U.S. leagues generating $4 billion more per year in rights revenues by the end of the next six years. And in Europe, broadcasters and online players in Europe's big five markets – the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, and Spain – shelled out $11 billion for sports rights in 2018, double the amount from six years ago. European broadcasters and pay TV operators in the big five spend a third of their content budget, on average, on sports, compared to 26% in the U.S.
As the World Series gets underway in Houston, MLB alters bylaws allowing institutional investors to take stakes in multiple teams. Bloomberg reported last week that Major League Baseball has altered its rules to allow investment funds to buy limited stakes in multiple franchises. The report also said that sports banker Sal Galagioto had created a $500 million investment vehicle explicitly for that purpose. The SEC-approved GSP Baseball Fund will take no more than 100 investors, with a minimum investment of $1 million. As team valuations continue to rise – the MLB average is now $1.78 billion – JohnWallStreet noted pro sports leagues have become concerned about the dearth of individuals wealthy enough to buy-in. The NBA is apparently discussing a similar solution, while the NFL is talking about raising its debt limit by +$700 million (to $1 billion). If your idea of baseball investment is more geared toward World Series bets, Betonline claims the Astros are the biggest Series favorite since the Red Sox over the Rockies in 2007 – they are 5/11 favorites, while the Nationals are 19/10 underdogs.
Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) has announced a multi-year partnership with Target that sees them become the first MLS club to sign a sleeve sponsorship deal. Starting in January, the agreement will see Target’s bullseye logo displayed prominently on the sleeve of LAFC jerseys, joining primary shirt sponsor YouTube. Terms of the deal, which lists Target as the official LAFC retail partner, have not been disclosed, but the Athletic said that MLS sleeve deals are worth anywhere between $500,000 and $1 million per year. LAFC is the first MLS team to sell the 2.5-by-2.5 inch inventory since the league announced the approval of sponsored sleeve patch sales last October. Only teams with a primary shirt sponsor can take advantage of the new initiative, which is a multi-year pilot program. Target will also join Banc of California, Delta Air Lines, and Heineken as one of LAFC’s Golden Boot Club members, securing exclusive access, visibility, and experiences through what is LAFC’s elite level of partnership. The deal comes on the back of LAFC’s best ever regular season, which saw them crowned MLS Western Conference champions, giving the club a bye to the semi-finals of this week’s MLS playoffs.
Tottenham Hotspur has announced a new five-year partnership with HSBC as its official banking partner in the UK and Hong Kong. SportsPro reports that the strategic agreement, which covers both the men’s and women’s teams, will see the financial services company work with the English soccer club to engage with fans through a range of activations, including digital campaigns, while playing a supportive role in the sport-led regeneration of the local area in North London. The club’s stadium development plan, which HSBC is supporting, aims to support 3,500 jobs as part of efforts by the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to help enhance the lives of those in the local community through education, employment, health, and social inclusion programs. Fran Jones, Tottenham Hotspur head of partnerships, said: “We have developed a strong relationship with HSBC over a number of years and this new partnership is a natural expansion of this.” The club is also in the first year of a lucrative decade-long deal agreement with the NFL to host games every season and is reportedly in talks with Amazon over a documentary focused partly on their NFL links to broaden the team’s appeal in the U.S.
EspnW and the U.S. Department of State are hosting the eighth year of the Global Sports Mentoring Program October 11-November 19. The program will see 16 emerging female leaders from around the world begin a month-long mentorship in the United States alongside top American female executives from some of the most influential organizations in sports and business. Including ESPN, executive mentors in the 2019 program represent: the Big East Conference; Creative Artists Agency (CAA); Google; LISC; Minnesota Lynx/ Timberwolves; the NCAA; New Balance; the NHL; Saatchi & Saatchi, Spurs Sports & Entertainment; the University of Connecticut; and the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA). The initiative joins such other events as this week’s espnW Women + Sports Summit in Newport Beach, CA and the recently-completed LPGA Indy Women in Tech Driven by Group1001 tournament and week-long symposium that promote women’s leadership, education, and advancement both in and out of sport.
MLS will officially award Sacramento an expansion franchise this week. According to the Sacramento Bee, MLS will hold a press conference and fan event in California’s capital city on Monday to announce that the United Soccer League’s Sacramento Republic FC will make the step up to become MLS’ 29th team. Sacramento has been attempting to secure an MLS expansion team since 2015, but its chances were improved at the beginning of this year when Ron Burkle, billionaire part-owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins, joined the Republic as lead investor. The Republic then received city council backing in April for a new $252 million, 20,000-seat stadium. Later that month, the Republic emerged as a front runner in the race to join MLS when the league announced it had been authorized to advance talks with the ownership groups of Sacramento and St Louis, which was officially awarded its own expansion team in August. If Sacramento is confirmed, it will pay a $200 million expansion fee to become the fourth MLS team in California. Confirmation would also mean that MLS has only one spot left to fill if it is to stick to its expansion target of 30 teams.
Cristiano Ronaldo apparently earns more from Instagram than he does from playing soccer for Juventus. The 34-year-old pockets an annual $47.8 million from paid Instagram posts, according to a study by social media firm Hopper HQ on Buzz Bingo. In contrast, his salary at Juventus is reportedly $34 million, according to Goal.com. Ronaldo's reported income from Instagram makes him the platform's highest earner, ahead of Lionel Messi and Kylie Jenner. “Ronaldo is the most followed human on Instagram," a marketing executive from Hopper told Business Insider. "Companies are paying almost $1 million for posts to access his insane reach.” A quick check revealed that Ronaldo has 186 million Instagram followers, compared with Messi at 133 million and Kylie Jenner at 149 million. And while companies around the world that have shifted large percentages of their marketing budgets to social media influencers are reconsidering that strategy in light of disappointing ROI, clearly those that invest in Ronaldo consider it money well spent.
Tiger Woods has been the subject of countless articles, books, and TV segments, but for the first time, he will tell his story in his own words. Last Tuesday, Harper Collins announced Woods’ BACK, a memoir chronicling the golfer’s life from growing up a celebrated golfing prodigy to shattering racial barriers and rising to fame, then facing continuing injuries and personal scandal, to mounting a comeback at 43 years old culminating with the 2019 Masters. “I’ve been in the spotlight for a long time, and because of that, there have been books and articles and TV shows about me, most filled with errors, speculative and wrong,” Woods said in the statement. “This book is my definitive story.” No publication date has been announced; the release stated that BACK will be “the first and only account directly from Woods, with the full cooperation of his friends, family, and inner circle.” For the moment, however, Woods is focused on “The Challenge: Japan Skins,” a big money made-for-TV match with Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, and Hideki Matsuyama taking place at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club in Chiba, Japan.
Many Ryder Cup fans were left with a sour taste in their mouths after last Wednesday’s online ticketing lottery system sold out in less than 50 minutes. Fans around the world began receiving emails last week that they had been selected in the ticket lottery for the next Ryder Cup, planned for September 25-27, 2020, at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin. But unlike The Masters’ ticketing process, winning the Ryder Cup lottery only guaranteed would-be attendees another opportunity to purchase tickets. The online lobby opened at 10 a.m. EST on Wednesday with tickets allowed to be purchased beginning at 11 a.m. EST, when fans were given a “randomly assigned” place in a virtual line. However, for many, by the time they reached the front of the line, tickets were sold out. Ticket demand was “unprecedented,” according to a tweet from the U.S. Ryder Cup account. Naturally, tickets have already popped up on resale sites. Weekly grounds passes start at $1,500 and individual event days start at $400.
Formula 1 eyes Miami to host its first-ever Grand Prix after reaching an agreement in principle to host a race at Hard Rock Stadium beginning in 2021. The proposed Formula One Miami Grand Prix would see F1 cars navigating a custom-built track around the stadium. Formula One had initially set its sights on a downtown track location, only to scrap the proposal in favor of Hard Rock Stadium, home to the Miami Dolphins, after local opposition. Concerns remain among residents over noise, traffic and pollution, though organizers insist this new location would reduce disruption compared to a downtown race. According to the Miami Herald, Dolphins and stadium owner Steve Ross will cover all race costs, including an expected $40 million custom track. It takes Formula One a step closer to holding a second U.S. race, a long-held ambition for the global motor racing series’ owners, Liberty Media. Since 2012, the sole F1 stop in the U.S. has been the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. A Miami F1 race would have an estimated annual impact of more than $400 million and 35,000 room nights.
Navy Federal Credit Union named title sponsor of NHL Stadium Series. The NHL announced that Navy Federal Credit Union, the Official Military Appreciation Partner of the league, was named the title sponsor of the 2020 NHL Stadium Series at the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs between the Colorado Avalanche and the Los Angeles Kings. The 2020 NHL Stadium Series game will be held on February 15. The league also unveiled the official event logo for the 2020 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series. Designed by NHL Creative Services, the logo celebrates outdoor hockey at Falcon Stadium and is inspired by the iconic and storied history of the U.S. Air Force Academy. The event is the first military tie-in of the NHL’s popular annual outdoor event, reminiscent of regular season games the NBA has held on aircraft carriers in Norfolk, VA, and San Diego.
ATP Media, the in-house rights agency for the global men’s tennis tour, saw revenues rise by 6.7% to $120.96 million in 2018. The UK-based production hub, which is also responsible for ATP Tour content creation, has registered gross profits of $13.57 million. The spike represents a 9.6% growth compared to the end of 2017. Broadcast rights sales, where ATP Media works alongside IMG, remain the dominant source of income. ATP Media also said it had benefitted from “favorable movements” on the euro and British pound exchange rates during last year. Broken up geographically, the UK operation generated $11.59 million in revenues at the end of 2018, while the rest of Europe raked in $31.91 million behind $77.45 million generated by ATP Media in other international territories. Among several of the media group’s high-profile broadcast deals, 2019 has already seen ATP Media secure an improved five-year agreement with Amazon Prime Video in the UK, which runs through the 2023 ATP season. In addition, deals were confirmed with Discovery-owned Eurosport in France and Sky Deutschland in Germany.
Finally, before a big game, it’s important for fans to get a Goodyear night’s sleep. The Goodyear Blimp has provided aerial coverage of college football games since 1955, and later this season will become the first non-player or coach to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Now, Forbes reports, fans will have the chance to stay in the iconic dirigible prior to the Notre Dame vs. Michigan game October 26. One-night stays can be booked through Airbnb for October 22, 23, and 24 in the blimp hangar in Mogadore, Ohio. Each night is priced at $150 (plus taxes and fees) to celebrate college football’s 150th anniversary. Guests "will have exclusive access to the Goodyear hangar, which is the size of 2.6 football fields, and a football lounge will be provided where guests can relax and watch some of the all-time best rivalry games in college football history.” Goodyear and Airbnb will also collectively donate $5,000 to the Cotton Bowl Foundation, which supports college football-related causes. While the blimp will remain on the ground, this takes “Air”bnb to a whole new level.

Twitter partners with Discovery and Eurosport in Europe for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Twitter will bring Eurosport's coverage of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics to users of the social media platform across Europe. The deal, unveiled at international TV market MIPCOM in Cannes, will see Eurosport publish real-time Olympic Games highlights on Twitter to complement its comprehensive coverage of Tokyo 2020. The sports network will provide 3,500 hours of coverage of the Games on its network, on Eurosport.com, and the Eurosport app. The tie-in will also allow Eurosport to offer Olympic Games advertisers dedicated sponsorship opportunities for Twitter content. The coverage will include highlights from Eurosport’s pre-Games Road to Tokyo coverage, extensive event highlight clips, as well as live coverage of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. ESPN The Magazine suffered a slow death, but now it is reborn through ESPN’s “Cover Story.” According to Axios, “Cover Story” is a 21st century version of a magazine that will air monthly across every ESPN platform, from TV to digital. The first cover story about NFL star DeAndre Hopkins debuted this past Wednesday on “SportsCenter” and online. Each month on a Wednesday, ESPN will release one cover story. Like a magazine, it will feature one highly-reported story, with one reporter and one piece of eye-catching imagery. The company is also hoping to have each story be sponsored or underwritten by an advertiser. ESPN will need to focus on this kind of in-depth reporting going forward in order to compete with other sports media companies such as The Athletic, which has made its small fortune from its in-depth coverage.
Blizzard bans esports team for holding a “Free Hong Kong, Boycott Blizz” sign, furthering sports-centered political issues between the US and China. After last week’s NBA, Blizzard has now suspended three American University esports players for six months after they held up a "Free Hong Kong, Boycott Blizz" sign during their championship match last week. They now cannot compete in official or third-party Blizzard events. The three students were acting in solidarity with a Hong Kong player, Ng "blitzchung" Wai Chung, who was banned for six months by Blizzard and disqualified from the "Hearthstone" Grandmasters tournament last week after he shouted a pro-Hong Kong slogan. The American University sophomores prepared a sign in reaction to Ng's ban and showed it on a stream of their college game October 8. Since Ng "blitzchung" Wai Chung’s banishment, the company has been met with outrage from gamers and calls for boycotts. Like the NBA, they will have to walk a tightrope between politics and their bottom line.

The announcement came exactly a week before the scheduled first pitch of Game 1 of the 2019 World Series on October 22. FOX Sports, an MLB broadcast partner, has televised the World Series in every season since 2000. FOX Bet is the fourth sports betting entity to join MLB’s Authorized Gaming Operator program since the Supreme Court’s historic PASPA decision in May 2018, joining MGM Resorts International, DraftKings, and FanDuel as MLB official data licensees under the program. The partnership is the latest in a string of deals for the network’s nascent sports betting division. FOX is looking to go all in on sports betting – this partnership marks the third deal that FOX Bet has inked with a major U.S. pro sports league, including the NBA and a deal with the NFL through its Super 6 contest.

The Seattle Mariners’ charity arm raises $1.5 million for Northwest charities in 2019. Mariners Care, the Seattle Mariners’ nonprofit foundation, and its corporate partners helped provide $1,492,825 in 2019 to a variety of charitable programs including Home Base and On BASE. Through a $3 million founding grant, the Mariners helped establish Home Base, an eviction prevention program in partnership with United Way of King County and King County Bar Association. During its first six months, Home Base provided legal assistance to 1,069 households and financial assistance to help 405 households avoid eviction. The goal is for Home Base to help prevent up to 4,000 evictions each year, the leading cause of homelessness. The Mariners also continued efforts to make baseball and softball accessible to kids of all means through On BASE, which makes grants to defray registration fees, provide uniforms and equipment, and offer training opportunities for coaches and young athletes to over 1,500 local organizations. Since 1991, when Mariners Care was established, the nonprofit has helped raise over $28 million to benefit primarily youth-oriented community service programs.
Ex-NFL star Warrick Dunn helps deliver 173rd home to single parent for charity. According to FOX Business, the former NFL running back helped surprise a single Florida mother with a new home Wednesday through his charity along with Habitat for Humanity and health care company Cigna. Warrick Dunn Charities, which is run by the former Pro Bowler, presented LaToya Reedy with a new home in St. Petersburg. It was the 173rd home the charity has given thanks to its “Home for the Holidays” campaign, which helps single parents achieve home ownership. Reedy told local media she had been working hard as a nursing assistant to provide a stable lifestyle for her 18-year-old son, but high rent prices and living paycheck to paycheck was getting difficult. Before Dunn became a pro football player, he was living with a single mother who worked very hard to provide for him and five other children, but his mother was killed before his 18th birthday and he helped raise his siblings while playing college football. Dunn sees his charity as a form of therapy to deal with his own traumas, taking comfort that he is helping others avoid similar housing and economic struggles.
Shaquille O'Neal donates a home to the family of a boy paralyzed in an Atlanta shooting. Isaiah Payton was leaving a high school football game on August 17 when a stray bullet struck his spine, leaving him without mobility from his chest down. He'd been unable to leave the hospital because his family's current home was not accessible for a paralyzed person. O'Neal heard about the story and reached out to Payton's mother. The four-time NBA champion found a one-bedroom home for Payton, his brother, and his mother in the College Park neighborhood of Atlanta. O'Neal's relationship with Papa John's helped him pull off the gesture; CEO Rob Lynch and chairman of the board Jeff Smith both chipped in. Payton's friend, Damean Spear, also suffered a gunshot wound to his leg during the shooting. A 15-year-old boy, whose name is not being released, has been charged with aggravated assault in connection to the incident. While this terrible act of violence has forever changed Payton’s life, Shaq found the kindness is his heart to help Payton’s family make the best of a terrible situation.

According to the Charlotte Observer, The Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Clinic and a second facility expected to open soon nearby will serve at least 35,000 children and adults over the next five years. The clinics provide both primary health care services as well as access to social workers, behavioral health experts, oral health practitioners, and physical therapy. Jordan’s financial gift to Novant Health is the latest in his philanthropic giving in Charlotte and his home state of North Carolina. Jordan has significantly ramped up his charitable giving since he became the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets in 2010. The Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic opened just over three weeks ago, and has already cared for more than 300 people. It is particularly important for Charlotte families to get the health care they deserve, as the city ranks last among major U.S. cities in enabling people to lift themselves out of poverty.

How to Write 5 or More Articles a Week and Not Burn Out
If you’ve tried (and failed) at blogging, don’t feel bad.
You’re not alone. Creating content, especially good content, is hard work. It takes a long time. Most of the time, you don’t see instant rewards.
So, how do some people write three, five, or even ten articles every week?
You might think that they work 80-hour weeks, are blessed with some genius gene, or have an army of assistants at their beck and call.
The reality is prolific writers are normal people. The difference lies in their habits—habits that have allowed them to repeat a pattern of success every day.
Do you want to write five or more articles a week? Studies show that there are massive marketing benefits to doing so.
Take a look at this data from Hubspot. Their research revealed that businesses who blogged 11 or more times per month had the largest amount of inbound traffic.
Source
But it’s not just traffic they gained. Traffic can be a vanity metric. These companies got more leads too!
Source
Content is like the gift that keeps on giving.
If you push yourself to produce content now, you’ll be reaping the rewards for months and years to come.
Take a look at another piece of Hubspot research. They discovered that they were generating more contacts from old posts than they were from new ones.
Source
The path to content marketing success is persistent, repeated content generation.
And in order to achieve persistent, repeated content generation, you’ve got to learn to write more.
That brings me to the point of this article. I want to show you some of the methods I’ve used to produce thousands of blog articles over the years.
Consider this your personal cheat sheet. By using one, two, or all these tips, you’ll be able to produce vastly more content than you are right now.
And here’s the best part: you won’t burn out.
Burnout is a huge cause of failure. Remember, content marketing is a long term commitment. Fizzling out after a few weeks of red-hot intensity isn’t going to give you the results you need.
So, let’s dive into the tactics. Here is how you can write five or more insanely good articles every week and keep at it for the long term.
Create a goal, and make time for it
Let’s start with the obvious. You’ve got to set a goal for yourself.
Maybe you won’t aim for five posts a week. Maybe you’ll shoot for three at first. That’s fine.
The important thing is to set a goal.
According to goal experts, we should first establish a vision of what we want to achieve. In this case, the vision is five articles a week.
Second, we clarify that goal in our minds.
Third, we determine what we need to do in order to accomplish that goal.
Finally, we need to spend time on that goal.
Source
Notice that critical point in the circle of goal success is “spend time on the important tasks.”
For you, the important task is writing. In order to achieve your goal, you must take time.
The same is true for any goal. You must “get to work” and “stick to it,” which takes time.
Source
Set aside time to write every day
It might not sound all that exciting, but it works. Persistence. The more often you do something, the better you’ll become at it.
According to Angela Duckworth, a psychologist who specializes in the subject of personal grit and self control,
“You don’t need to have talent to succeed. You need to have persistence.“
By persisting every day in your commitment to write, you’ll eventually reach the point where you are easily whipping out five articles a week or more.
I want to challenge you to write every day. Writing every day is mental training. The more you do it, the stronger and more powerful you will become.
Brian Clark of Copyblogger has a simple and memorable “10 Steps to Becoming a Better Writer.” Here’s his advice:
Source
Pretty simple, right?
That’s all there is to it.
Write every day, and you’ll soon be achieving your goal of five articles a week.
Create a deadline for yourself
Many of us work better if we have a date and time by which we have to finish.
Let’s say your boss came to you and said, “Can you create the report, please?”
You say, “Sure, when do you need it by?”
Your boss replies, “Oh, whenever.”
When will you get the report done?
Maybe tomorrow. Maybe in a week. Maybe in a month.
You don’t have a deadline, so your boss’s request might get shoved aside in favor of more urgent tasks.
But what if your boss said, “I need the report by Tuesday at 3 p.m.”? Then what happens?
Hopefully, you’ll get it to your boss by Tuesday at 3 p.m.
The same deadline-setting power applies to writing articles.
Break your five-article goal into manageable chunks—perhaps 1 hour of writing every day. Put that writing hour into your schedule. By 3 p.m. every day, you should have written, say, 500 words.
Easy enough, right?
Deadlines aren’t tyrannical methods of cruel and unusual punishment. They are a tool to help us achieve our goals.
Shut down all distractions while you write
Distraction-free writing is the way to produce content quickly.
A single distraction can cost you anywhere from 27 seconds to 25 minutes!
If you’re fielding distractions while you write, you’ll never be able to produce content that is coherent and effective.
What kinds of things might be distracting you? Here’s a survey of what often distracts employees at work.
Source
Some distractions are necessary and useful. But all distractions will impair your ability to write content.
Instead of working, many employees are avoiding work by involving themselves in harmless but time-sucking activities.
Source
Distractions can jeopardize our lives (in the case of driving.)
Source
But distractions also jeopardize our productivity.
An Atlassian study claims that 80% of workplace interruptions are trivial, and only 60% of our time is spent in a productive way.
What’s the solution?
Shut the door.
Turn off your phone.
Close down your email.
Block out your schedule.
Tell people not to interrupt you.
Avoiding distractions will enhance your writing and allow you to achieve your goal.
Write at the same time every day
Your brain gets used to doing the same thing at the same time every day.
If you train your brain to prepare for writing action and engagement at the same time daily, you’ll start writing better and faster.
This principle is known as muscle memory. You can use this mental trick to get better at a task—even writing.
The key to it is to repeat the same activity at the same time on a daily basis.
William Faulkner, a noted American author, is reported to have said,
“I only write when inspiration strikes. Fortunately it strikes at nine every morning.”
Source
What worked for Faulkner may work for you too.
Write down thoughts and inspirations as soon as you get them
A lot of writing time is wasted trying to come up with ideas.
Instead of burning precious writing time thinking of ideas, create a list of ideas beforehand. Then, when it’s time to write, you’ll know exactly what you’re supposed to do.
Many writers get into the habit of carrying around a notebook to write down ideas as they come to them. Try to do the same. You may be surprised at all the good ideas you come up with when you’re not even trying.
Write only about topics that interest you
If you’re trying to write about boring topics, you’ll have trouble getting very far.
You’ll be banging your head against a wall if you try to produce content you’re not passionate about.
It might be time to change your focus or to select topics that do interest you.
When you’re truly interested in the subject matter, you’ll be able to produce content quickly and easily.
Write in the morning (or whenever your mind is the most energetic)
Productivity researchers explain that we should channel our energy to get more accomplished in less time.
Take some time to find out when you’re at your sharpest mentally. Use that time for writing. You will be able to write better content, and you’ll do so with energy to spare.
You’ll hit your goals, and you won’t burn out doing it.
Write on an empty stomach
Neuroscientists from Yale claim that the brain works better when you feel empty rather than full.
The hunger hormone, known as ghrelin, can activate the brain’s hypothalamus and hippocampus, allowing you to research better, faster, and more effectively.
While you should certainly eat enough to maintain your energy, you may want to delay that big meal until after you’ve had your writing session.
Make up a writing ritual
Writing greats from history have used writing rituals or routines to prime their brains for writing success.
Habit researcher Charles Duhigg has determined that positive routines can help us develop constructive habits—even the habit of writing.
Source
Why not invent your own writing ritual? It doesn’t need to be anything complicated or serious. Maybe it involves coffee, a shower, a playlist, or something else.
Doing the same thing in the same way at the same time, as you’ll remember from above, can prime the brain for repeated success.
Set a timer
Try the timer trick.
Set a timer for 45 minutes to an hour. Use that time to do nothing but write.
When the timer goes off, you may be surprised to see how much you’ve accomplished.
Get help with the tasks you don’t like doing
Let’s face it. Not every writing task is enjoyable and fulfilling.
If you’re forcing yourself to do unpleasant writing tasks, burnout will be much more likely.
Instead, outsource these tasks to someone else. You can hire someone on Fiverr or assign tasks to your assistant.
Here are some aspects of writing that you may want to outsource:
Copyediting/Proofreading
Formatting
Finding images
Adding images
Designing images
Fact checking
Researching
Outlining
Creating titles
Uploading articles to your blog
Get inspired by a guest-posting opportunity
Getting a guest-posting gig will provide a surge of inspiration and will add to your writing passion.
Suddenly, you have a deadline, someone who’s counting on you, and a new audience with whom you get to share your story.
Instead of simply waiting for this inspiration to come your way, actively seek it out.
Find a music playlist that gets you going
Music can improve your productivity like few other things can.
When it’s writing time, grab your headphones, cue your writing playlist, and get going. Some educators have discovered that the right kind of music can “trigger creativity, awareness, motivation, and poetry.”
Check out these Spotify playlists that could improve your writing.
Write your outline in advance
One time-draining hurdle for writing is creating an outline.
As time-intensive as it is, an outline helps to structure your writing and improve the flow of your content.
Try creating your outline ahead of time, and see if it helps you write faster. When you have an outline in place, your brain is already familiar with the way you should structure ideas.
When it comes time to write the content, all you have to do is add verbal substance to the outline.
It’s simple and fast, and it keeps you from burning out.
Check your typing speed, and set a goal to improve it by 5 wpm each week
Your typing speed matters.
If you’re not the world’s greatest typist, there’s no need to despair.
Follow this simple path to improvement.
First, take a typing speed test. This simple test from Key Hero should do the job.
Write down your score—you don’t want to forget it.
Set a new goal. Aim for five words per minute faster than your original speed.
As you type throughout the week, keep your goal in mind. Try to type just a little bit faster than you’re used to typing.
One week from the time you took your first test, take the test again.
How did you do? Chances are you saw some improvement in your typing.
Keep setting your goal higher every week until you’re able to achieve speeds of 60-80 words per minute.
Watch cat videos
Can cat videos help you write better?
Apparently so, according to one study from the University of Indiana. Researchers found that after watching videos of cute cats, workers experienced improved moods, better energy, and more positive emotions.
The net effect? Greater productivity and a higher quality of work.
If you’re into cat videos, don’t feel bad about it. Instead, watch these cuddly critters, and then write some great content.
Here’s a cute cat playlist to get you started.
youtube
Conclusion
You can write better. You can write faster. You can write five articles a day.
And when you get there, you might not be able to stop!
When I first started blogging, I was really slow. Writing was painful.
Today, writing is like second nature. I’ve done it so much that I can’t help but do it every day. This article, which is more than 2,300 words, took me a little over an hour to write.
There is something energizing and fulfilling in producing content that helps people to improve. Plus, the benefits to your business will convince you that daily writing is the way to go.
