Tamlin Week 2024, Day 4: (a belated) Happily Ever After
@tamlinweek
We stood atop the hill in silence, until the setting sun gilded the house and the hills and the world and Lucien called us to dinner. ~ A Court of Thorns and Roses, ch. 45
This was inspired by the meadow scene in Studio Ghibli's "Howl's Moving Castle", hence the Ghibli-esque illustration style I went for here.
Many pro-Tamlin fans prefer to think of ACOTAR as a standalone book, and I am no exception. So my contribution to the "Happily Ever After" theme is them walking off into the sunset at the end of book 1. I hope you like it.
I am the artist. Please do not repost without permission.

i think something moonage daydream was really good at doing was capturing a vibe
#sir.txt#the thing it was second best at was painting a picture... that movie is a watercolor rendition of a galaxy to me#i feel like the linear progression of bowie's life in the movie never being marked by any specific dates not even years... it gives it that#not cut and dry feeling. none of these events exist solely in one day of one year they are something that will span longer than ourselves#one day- a couple of hours- stretched into infinity simply by the fact that they were not confined within a date#i think that's something worthy of bowie. to be immortalized not through the medium itself but by how the medium refuses to cage him within#any set parameters that would be too extreme and unsatisfying for him would he be there to choose#instead letting him trespass all those barriers and just be and transcend#my boyfriend says the film is like bowies superstar cosmic journal well i say the film is like bowies watercolor rendition of a galaxy in#formation- and all the stars are still forming and the watercolor still hasn't dried as another layer is added so shades melt within-into-#each other#like how bowie refused to keep himself caged within one style one look one identity he surpassed all of those boundaries and transformed#into something else... it is only fair that the film capture it in a similar way... all of the flashy colors and editing is just a#projection of bowies spirit itself in all its vibrancy and extravagance without being supercilious#this movie was touching but also fun for the sake of fun and eccentric for the sake of eccentricity. it's a must watch for whoever loves#bowie at his most raw and unrestrained and undefined... i felt like falling through the screen to bw held by him at several moments#BECAUSE that's what the movie is it's the galaxy wrapping its arms around the unknowing astronaut#and welcoming them into itself because nobody in this reality is actually an outsider of life- nobody passively observes the universe-#that's something that i found very moving in the film was how bowie surpassed that feeling of all-encompassing loneliness that was#what propeled him to create art... and found acceptance and loving and understood he wasn't alien to all of it.#it's very moving again like i said. but specially movingfor someone like me who struggles so hard not to simply idly observe things and let#life reject me. I can't keep letting these things write themselves into existence over and over and maybe just maybe#that film helped me snap back into a higher sense of lucidity where i realise i have to take control of my life#but like. anyway.#bowies life is very mythologised but in part it is very much a self constructed myth which he himself took the time to skillfully architect#and its such that myth ceases to be only in suspension and untangible: bowie being extraterrestrial.#he.... he integrates so much into the planet he does become an energy traversing through earth. he becomes life itself but in the least self#important way this sentiment could be expressed.#there will never be another bowie- as there will never be another dylan or reed or lennon. there will never be circumstances which will come#but to quote the movie. his life hasnt ended. only changed. thats beautiful. anyways my tags are up

Waittt, what did you mean with your last post?? I don't want to spoil myself so I'm waiting for the nightmare before christmas event to arrive on the eng server before diving deep into the wiki. But I HAVE to know; were there hints of Lilia joining in for a rerun or a sequel ??? Your big "OR IS IT???" filled me with way too much hope !! please tell me it wasn't a bit : (
there was a little teaser at the end that implied there'll be a sequel event, though we don't really know anything beyond that! I do think it's likely we'll get the other half of the cast in it, even if it's just wishful thinking on my part. 🤞🤞 NIGHTMARE SUITS FOR EVERYONE!!!!
as far as I know there's been no confirmation on whether it's going to be next year's Halloween event or a separate thing (the snow makes me think it'll be more Christmas-themed, or otherwise more related to the plot of the original movie) so. we're probably going to have to wait quite a while before we find out anything solid. :') they really do love just dropping these things on us and then watching us go absolutely wild with speculation while they watch like
Tumblr media
#joseimuke games are serious business#twisted wonderland#twisted wonderland spoilers#lost in the book with nightmare before christmas#hajimari no halloween#me the second i saw the question mark at the end: ahhhh so that's why lilia couldn't be in it#(nods sagely) they were saving him for the second one. yes. of course.#to get more into event spoilers though (so stop reading here if you're avoiding them for now!)#this does explain some things i was wondering about!#like the stitch event didn't follow the movie at all so i wasn't really surprised that this didn't either#but i WAS surprised that oogie wasn't so much as mentioned#if he's also being saved for the second part then that makes a lot more sense#though i am sorry that jamil won't get to meet the man made of bugs 😔#however i am very excited for lilia and floyd to wreak chaos across not one but two holidays!#half the characters: now hold on can we talk about this before --#lilia and floyd: (already shoving santa into a bag) KIDNAP THE SANDY CLAWS#i guess the real question is...if this is for next halloween are we gonna get an oogie boy to go along with it#how many handsome animes can they squeeze out of this franchise? more than you'd expect#wait so does this mean the rhythmic being essentially the opening to the movie was like...foreshadowing or something#or am i overthinking it as per usual#(eng i am praying for you that this rhythmic won't get eaten by the music licensing monsters and replaced with some generic instrumental)#(it is SO cute i love it SO much)

MAG127, Remains To Be Seen: "[...] as we got closer I could see that it was a single tree that was burning. A gnarled and ancient elm, that sat removed from the rest of the forest. A small crowd surrounded the spectacle. One man, who I took to be a groundskeeper, stood closer than the others, with a lit torch in his hand. [...]
... All that I could get from him was a sense of… resignation, and the insistence that his master, who I took to be Albrecht, wanted the tree dead. I’m sure that he used that word, though. Not burned, not removed, or destroyed. Dead. I resolved to ask Albrecht about it when I saw him."
...and then we never heard from it again. This tree still confuses me!! I can't connect it conclusively to anything else, but there's such an emphasis placed on it that it feels like it has to be important!
The motif of a big gnarly tree being burned echoes the tree at Hilltop Road, so even though there are no spiders, something about it feels Webby - as does the way Fanshawe mentions it, says he wants to ask Albrecht about it, and then seems to completely forget about it...
...that's a very weak connection at best, when there aren't any other indications that the Web is involved with the Von Closens at that time and place. So what else could it be? Fire could indicate the Desolation, but that has the same problem of not being mentioned otherwise, plus just burning down one (1) tree doesn't really seem like its style to do, unless this specific tree means something;
Trees and fire are also reminiscent of Gertrude's protection circle from s1, though, again, that's Web & Desolation duking it out. The tree at HTR also seemed to be connected to Agnes' death in some way, she died when it was cut down. Maybe this tree is also protecting someone, but who? why? how? Albrecht? That makes no sense, at the very least unless "the Master" is referring to someone else, but that really just opens more questions than it answers!
Maybe the tree is meant to signify another 'rift' between worlds, and it links up to the vague implication that maybe the Von Closens seemed to be unable to get children in s1, but evidently had them later on. And maybe the bastard prince actually came through from another dimension as well.... However, that's still a very big leap to take just from one odd tree and two 'mysteries' that aren't really mysteries and didn't really need solving in the first place
I'd be curious to know if this was a plot hook for future episodes which never materialized into something more, or if I'm just missing something here. anyone else have a solid theory? @a-mag-a-day

Prompt No. 31
Villain let out a long sigh of exhaustion as they reached for the keys of their apartment, mist formed from their breath. As much as they loved being society's no. 1 menace, they wished that their boss was at least lenient enough to allow them rest during the holidays.
But no, they were buried in piles and piles of paperwork. At least they were stationed in the warmth of their office instead of the cold of the outside.
They set aside their bag and scarf as they walked in, was their apartment always this dark? Fumbling in the darkness, they flicked the switch that they finally located, blinded by not only the sudden brightness of the lightbulb, but by the colourful flickering lights adorning the Christmas tree they were sure they didn't have.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS!" A chorus of voices greeted.
Villain uncovered their eyes to see their nemesis and her sidekick, their own sidekick, their boss and his right hand, and that annoying vigilante that always makes their job twice as challenging especially with Hero on their tail.
They blinked, once, twice, thrice. And then another light blinded them, the flash of a camera followed by its soft shutter.
"What--" They breathed out, confusion and shock still evident.
Hero giggled, "That was a nice look!"
"What are you all doing here???"
"To celebrate Christmas with you, silly!" Hero answered.
"Hero was really looking forward to it." Their sidekick added.
"Too excited though... We forgot a few things that our preparations got a little delayed so I asked Supervillain to keep you busy though..." Right Hand side-eyed the master criminal who immediately became defensive.
"I tried, okay? It was the only way I can think of." He huffed.
"Before you get so emotional over me attending just know I was forced into this!" Vigilante protested and pointed towards Hero's sidekick who merely gave Villain a thumbs up wearing the signature cliff-faced expression.
Villain watched the group bantering, a comfortable warmth spreading across their chest. It was the first Christmas their apartment had been so lively.
"Come on! I baked gingerbread cookies!" Hero grabbed their hand and dragged them along towards the others, a small smile on their face.
It really was a merry Christmas.

i’ve been slowly reading through the lore books and i noticed in eva’s journey the red war is described as being months long. do we have any idea the time frame between the red war and forsaken?
i’ve always kind of assumed it was around a year, but with curse of osiris and warmind also happening after the red war im not so sure now
I'm also not sure. The Red War itself as an event took a while for sure, but it's unclear to me what's the canon amount of time between the Tower falling and Traveler killing Ghaul. Gameplay wise, it doesn't feel like too long, a few days, a week? But then also the way we see the City in the final mission feels like the legion has been there for weeks. I guess months is also possible, though I genuinely don't think it took us months to get Ghaul out. Months for the aftermath for sure, though. Maybe Eva's book was meant to solidify that the whole situation was indeed months long (3 months, from launch to Curse), despite not feeling that way gameplay wise. I'd generally go for what the lore says since gameplay can't really relay this to us properly.
Both Curse and Warmind are after the Red War "ended" (in the sense that it's after we killed Ghaul). I guess the best bet is to use IRL time frame for these; it's usually how it's measured. So a year for Red War stuff (a few months of dealing with the main stuff and the aftermath + Curse + Warmind and everything in between). Technically we could say that everything from Curse and Warmind also falls under the Red War, or at least the aftermath of it. A lot of what was going on there was somehow fuelled by the Red War and we still had various leftover Red Legion enemies to grapple with. Most notably, the reason things with the Infinite Forest and Xol and Nokris on Mars happened was due to the Traveler's awakening. Also don't forget the appearance of Calus and the Leviathan, as well as the Spire of Stars raid lair which featured a boss that took over Red Legion after Ghaul's death. When we killed him (Val Ca'uor), that was the final nail in the coffin for the Red Legion's stability.
We could even extend that all the way to Season of Dawn and ending in Worthy. In Dawn, the Psion sisters loyal to the Red Legion wanted to use the Sundial to find an alternate timeline where Ghaul wins the Red War. When that failed, the remaining sister ended up doing one last yeehaw by attempting to destroy the City by crashing the Almighty (Ghaul's flagship) into it.
Depending on what we use as the true end of the Red War, it could definitely stretch out to months and even years, though the later stuff is definitely not indicative of the events of Forsaken; those happened after Warmind and I'd generally use the IRL time frame and say there's been a year between the Red War and Forsaken. I'm not sure if there's any specific canon proof of it though. If someone remembers any specific line or lore tab that mentions it, please share!
