so 7.18 is the episode in which steve and danny transport a bomb through the forest in a truck and bicker the whole way and danny is thinking about retirement and steve essentially keeps going “but how can you make lists about it without me! i thought we were married!” once he finds out the truth after endless nosy pushing, and the whole thing is a gift and easily one of my favorite mcdanno episodes for so many reasons, BUT i think there’s a moment that goes woefully overlooked (at least by me, repeatedly, because i keep forgetting it even happens). it’s fairly near the start of the episode, when steve gets home after arguing with danny non-stop for literally two entire scenes about whether he was allowed to look at the list on danny’s desk or not, and now danny is not with steve anymore but steve is on the phone and then we find out he’s talking tO CHIN about his argument with danny. just, he’s mid-attempt to convince chin that chin should pick his side, while dear chin (bless his heart), seems to be actually responding to steve’s nonsense arguments while also trying to stay neutral. steve is also doing this literally as he walks in the door, which means that he was very possibly dropped off by danny outside (since they were taking the camaro together for their lecture at the police academy just before this) and then he just immediately picked up his phone, dialed (poor, patient) chin ho kelly and with barely a second of preamble went “chin! danny didn’t want me to look at a list and i’m sad now :c” but tried to frame it as “listen, i am totally right and danny is wrong and you should tell him so” and that is just. so stupid. it’s so, so stupid, but also so, so good. i love that so much.
