New fact I recently learned about my mom, she thinks being trans is a mental illness, but not because it’s against god or whatever, but because she has so much trauma from being raised by a sociopathic plastic surgeon in LA that she is scared of how far the idea of altering our original forms will go, and is scared of the normalization of everything from tattoos to botox and gender affirming surgeries happen to fall in that category

#she also has (what she recognizes as) a paranoia about people beginning to upload their consciousness to machines #leaving their physical form behind entirely #(and yet I’m the one who can’t watch the matrix without dissociating but that’s neither here nor there)#and she feels like gender affirming surgeries are a slippery slope #she’s also genderqueer enough that the usual ‘what if you were stuck in a body not meant for you’ arguments don’t work #bc she’s like ‘it’d be weird but kind of cool’#she also revealed that her and my dads couples therapist agrees with me that she’s poly #she would have been such a cool person if she didn’t grow up in rural South Carolina with people who weren’t fit to be parents
