Going with the Flow

When Hassian (mistakenly) believes his mother is seriously interested in Subira, he attempts to find help for her. He wants his mother to be happy, and while he knows no one will ever truly replace Taylin in his mother's heart, that doesn't mean his mother can't date anyone else for the rest of time. He's willing to make sacrifices for his mother's happiness, even if it means allying with Reth.

Even though it's been years since he and his sister moved into town, Reth still feels like an outsider with all of the secrets he's carrying. Everything is for his sister's well-being and no price is too high to keep her bright smile and loving heart in the world.

Subira coming into town is the most terrifying situation he's had to deal with yet, but then Hassian approaches him with a plan to get the Order member with Sifuu, and maybe if Subira is distracted by romance she won't find out about Reth's involvement in the underground Flow trade...

Current life: One of the many humans from the Phoenix. They meander about, tending their garden and getting by. Their newfound durability makes doing a lot of work a bit easier with their condition, if only because they worry less about their pain meaning actual damage to their body. It's mostly managed with edibles they make from herbs Chayne got ahold of for them to grow in their garden. Is deeply suspicious of the Order for reasons they cannot put a finger on, due to the amnesia. Is prone to popping up at villagers homes at odd hours because something jogged their memory and they needed to tell someone, anyone about it. Gets extremely stressed out if told someone hasn't eaten in a long while, or that there's food insecurity. Has a protective streak for the kids in town. They have an entire room dedicated to treasure chests full of random trinkets, gemstones, and craft projects. Another room is totally dedicated to being a walk in aquarium, with their best catches cared for as needed. Can and will relay random stories they remember to the townsfolk; this includes epic adventures and once a story about a man-eating plant from outer space. Tends to stare at people's noses for long periods of time while they think, before blinking and going about the conversation. Has passed out in the woods from pushing themselves to get things for people before.

Shepp: They haven't asked one yet, mostly because they're anxious. Something sits in the back of their head that gives them pause about linking reputations with someone else.

Close to: The Daiya family makes them feel a weird homesickness for a place they can't remember, and they spend a lot of time discussing life with them. Feels a kinship with Reth after hearing how people talk about him, and doesn't really understand why until they remember a bit more. They and Tish bond over lingering illnesses, though Tish pointedly doesn't clarify much past that hers started in childhood.

Schedule: Gets up around 10 am, tends to the garden and eats breakfast. Leaves to go fishing and foraging at around 12 pm, and can be found wandering between Kilima and the Lighthouse on the coast until around 8 pm. Then they are either found in the Inn from 9 pm to 12 am, or the underground during the same times. Gets home around 1 am and eats dinner. On bad pain days, they come outside their house long enough to send a letter in to order take out before spending the rest of the day in bed. Spends Sundays and Mondays helping out on the farm--no one involved knows what those days are, but at some point they looked at a calendar and nodded, so no one argues. On these days they leave the house at 5 am and return home around 9 pm.

Close to: No one specifically yet, but Elouisa is probably the closest. Mostly because she'll take and run with any story they tell, coming up with a million theories that they promptly chat about. Jina is a close second, if only because she actually makes them think about details and that gets uncomfortable quickly.

Notes: They are, essentially, on the cryptid end of the 'humans that just showed up' scale. Largely because getting a supply of things that can treat their fibro AND their ADHD is a bitch. Because while the Majiri have stimulants, they need to work really close with Chayne to not overdo it while trying to focus. Which is very difficult with the tools available in Kilima. So instead they end up just spacing out, or jumping topics or being so laser focused on one that others rapidly find them rude for steamrolling the conversation. Tends to get very close to people and loom to illustrate their point/emphasize whatever they're saying. Will only look into people's eyes directly when they're trying to convey that they're not fucking around with what they're saying. Writes down literally everything they remember when something jogs their memory. It tends to look like gibberish to everyone else, because whatever writing system they know is complicated by their poor handwriting and misspellings. A bit too willing to nod along with Reth and Zeki's underground things, so long as no one is physically harmed. Mostly because they're too interested in where it'll end up. Is an unnervingly good shot, provided you do not want the head of something to be in tact. Which is annoying to Hassain, entirely because they have the shakes most other times and can't hit a target if he physically points them at it. They frustrate him a lot expressly because while they listen to him and learn from him, they don't map properly to every other human he has to interact with. Likes to chew on things. A lot. Their wooden spoons often have bite marks on the handles. The only reason anyone gets a gemstone as a present instead of every single one just being in their house is that they have too many. More so because they don't collect them based on value, they work on a purely "i like this one" vibes system. Has purposely touched every single fabric in Jel's shop before ordering anything and then spent fifteen mins trying to articulate their way into getting a tank top and cargo shorts. This was complicated expressly because Jel kept trying to add embellishments to the sketch of the idea and they had to explain that if he put embroidery on their shirt it would touch their stomach and it would kill them, sensory wise. The following order for trying to work out compression garments for their hands/arms and feet/legs felt like they were fucking with him. Randomly vocalizes at other autistic humans as a vocal stim and devolves the whole group into 'awawa's to the bafflement of every majiri and unfamiliar human nearby. Hates dealing with Eshe, but manages a perfect customer service voice when they have to. Kenyatta is told to speak like they do and tries to not laugh. Hates the Palian chocolate because it's texture it off. Reminds them of something called Valentines Day and cheap candy bought after it. Isn't sure what the holiday is for, though, assumes its to do with bees.

Oh my god!! Luna making a (quick) comeback!! Yeah, so rare. I've gotten way too into Palia, I'm not gonna lie. This random thought came into my brain while I was watching random videos, "who would they go for?" and it suddenly became a need to make this. I'm not gonna make any promises, as usual, I'm just trying to get myself in the creative mood after such a long time. I'm doing this for reasons that I will 99.9% not be able to fulfill once more. I apologize if I lack a lot compared to previous posts. Ignoring that, let's do this! How did the "friendly chemistry"(?) between Shin, your OS and Zamasu even begin? Zamasu in your artwork most of the time now looks literally between “not my circus, not my monkeys” and “MY CIRCUS! MY MONKEYS!” and I love it!

We have to start from scratch: Who the hell is Reth? Reth is a human who accidentally entered the Dragon Ball universe as if it were a bad isekai. The thing is that as DB has been around for a long time, she doesn't remember many things, so she had to start almost from scratch. One of Reth's most special qualities is that she gets into extremely strange situations (sometimes without thinking much), but still, with sweat and tears she somehow magically adapts to the situation.

First of all, how did she meet Shin? Shee met him at one of Bulma's parties: Reth was with Gohan and Videl, talking about random things. Shin approached Gohan to say hello and well, both Gohan and Videl introduced Reth. To tell the truth, the first time they got along pretty well: Reth liked his polite and mysterious behavior, while Shin liked how kind and funny Reth was. Although they definitely became friends and started staying at each other's houses at the second party Bulma hosted.

Second, how did she meet Zamasu? Well, sit down and hold on to your chair, because this is going to be a ride.

It all started when Gowasu wanted to change his student's opinion of mortals and asked Shin for help (it's a separate AU where I put the "what if everything had some logic?" situation). Shin thought about asking Reth for help, in case she wanted to be the candidate.

Reth accepted the sudden arrival of Shin and Gowasu at her door, bewildered. Throughout the two weeks, Gowasu, having gotten to know the human, decided to explain the situation to her, hoping that she could help him in one way or another. Reth kindly refused, I mean bro, Zamasu is a jerk and all that and I already have enough problems as a young adult, I'm not going to deal with someone with a god complex. Just no, this can only make the situation worse.

Obviously Gowasu was very sad, but he accepted her rejection. Gowasu went around interviewing some humans, but something told him that he HAD to choose Reth. One night Gowasu appeared distressed at Reth's apartment door without warning and asked her again politely (and more desperately) if she would accept the proposal. Reth, who was half asleep, did not think much and accepted, closed the door and went to sleep. From this moment on her life turned 180º. In any case, she convinced herself that at least she would have a small (or long) vacation and thus she would not have to get up early to go to work. Partly it is like that, but she would have to use every neuron in her not to screw up and make this green fruit decide to start a genocide because of her.

Much to Reth's misfortune and Zamasu's distress, Reth would move to live in the temple with the two Kaioshins from Universe 10. Reth always tried to be kind and polite to Zamasu but the son of a bitch is a son of a bitch and only made Reth very frustrated. On a night when she couldn't sleep and greatly reconsidered her life chooses she remembered something: the gods love mortal food! Thank you Bulma for inviting immortals to your parties. And that's how she managed to form a friendship with Zamasu through food. "Full belly, happy heart."

One day Reth was able to convince Zamasu and Gowasu to bring Shin so they could get to know each other better and that's how such a crazy friendship was formed.

The dynamic between these three is that Shin is the chill one of the group, while Reth is the humor of the group and is the one who gets everyone into trouble without wanting to and Zamasu is a friend who is a little disappointed in you, but appreciates you anyway.

(I wrote all this with a bit of a headache, so I hope what I wrote made some sense.)

Because this one single gif is ten times more interesting then the entirety of Episode 7. I absolutely went way too honest on this one about how I feel in regards to Soren and Kwan. If you like/love them, I don't recommend reading this. Spoilers under the cut!

Kwan cannot carry an episode on her own. She's meant to be a supporting character, not a main, and I have absolutely zero interest in her or Soren.

she's a teenager who lost everything. "rage is all i have left.'' and i totally get it, i do. there's just nothing endearing about this plot. it's not interesting. it doesn't draw you in.

her actress is super talented but.. the insurrection plot.. just bores me

okay overall this gets a 6/10

@blixvoronin has moved in with her in their apartment in Pandaria. There are a lot more knives around than previously. Be careful when you open the cabinet in the workroom!

Thanks to @ranekvilmas Asha the Sprite Darter has a new little brother, named Tilly. Asha is not happy. (For a short story about this, click here.)

Her brother Andennaris is once more MIA, so she's drinking like a fish despite herself. If it weren't for Blix, it would be a lot worse.

She's considering starting seriously looking for her parents, but she's terrified that they're dead. Her internal debate right now is whether or not ignorance really is bliss.

She's also considering starting selling some of her enchanted tailoring items, even though she doesn't need the money.

Reth (Rethea Emberfall)

Newly single, currently doubting both her leadership skills and her worth as a person because of Andennaris's disappearance. Pretty sure she's never going to try to open up to anyone romantically ever again.

Considering giving up on being a blade-for-hire, but not sure what else she can do to make a living.

Looking for a place to settle down so she can stop living out of an inn in Boralus.

Buying SO MUCH LINGERIE for retail therapy.

Still hiding from her murderous twin sister!

And then, I am working on a backstory for a Goblin named Attzi Gearburst, who might show up in some stories in the next DWC. Since she's so new, doing prompts is a great way to flesh out her character. Here's what I know now:

Born in Everlook (she's from Steamwheedle Cartel)

Lives in Booty Bay (probably)

Decided to learn frost magic after the family lab caught fire and burned, taking all their projects (and her cousin) with it.

Has a history of being a trade facilitator/salesperson, and is looking for a new group to keep doing that for.

Imagine: After all this time.

You were dating Draco since 4th year, after he jokingly asked you on the Yule Ball, after a potions class where you made a rather not usual for your being cocky remark...

But things got serious, and 7th year you were the power couple of Hogwards. Making plabs for your future together. Pansy, in her titles of Draco's childhood bestie, already calked you her sister. He was just explaining you about Pansy's Christmas plans in her new apartment, that her dad bought...

... When you saw a familiar face walking the hallways.

It was Bill, one of the Weaselbee, as the Slytherin royals calk them, siblings. You met him after you went to help the illegal undergroud Werefolf group. Before and after full moons they needed healer and help, and your natural powers to calm people down, helped them to ease the pain and fear. With time you and Bill sort of grew closer. And now there was this awkward unspoken thing between you.

Late winter of 7th year, Draco new there was someting going on about you. He did his best on this Muggle holiday you insisted celebrating - Valentine's Day, usually you'd be head over heals regardless of his efforts, even a candy will be a reason for you to cheer. But lately he happened to fail his attempts to make you smile.

On the other hand Professor Lupin noticed your sudden appearance anywhere where Bill is. Including one time he saw you in a muggle bakery together. Sharing a chocilate pai.

After this day, you had no choice, but to sat Draco down and explain to him... That... Somehow, you fell in love for someone else...

It was ridiculous to even get the line in your head. Draco accepted you, for who you were, without the usual pureblood horrible attitude you kinda expected as muggleborn. He treated you properly, respectfully as equal in school and personal life. And yes, after all these years of awkward friendship and later an exquisite and deep emotional relationship... Your heart, in spite of all, decided to pick another...

He listened to all you said, held your hand while you cried you thousand appologies to him, explaining you didn't meant to hurt him...

He listened carefully, calmly, although his eyes turn dark gray from the usual sky blue... He asked who, the boy he lost to, was, he rather hissed a laugh when you told him. Got up and hugged you.

- I appreciate your honesty, I ... Will need a little time not to be mad... I would like us to keep in touch ... After all we've been through. But I will appreciat if you keep your distance. You are just a person i know now...

He then left. This was when you broke... Cried, cursed yourself, hated even... But there was no turning back. You could not decieve him and be a blank shell to his wild fire love.

... You barely slept that night... Knowing how heartbroken you left him be...

Pansy and Blaise never spoke to you, rather mumbling under their breaths, Daphne and Theo nodded at your direction when no one was loking...

It wasn't any better with Bill, his family dissaproved, that he picked you, not that dashing young blonde french coworker of his... Also you were quite too young... What he'd do with a child, when he was suppised to have a family by now... Especially the golden trio, who were quite vocal about their dissaproval.

Bill, on the other hand, laughed it off. Couldn't care less, he was happy he got this one special person in his life. One who'll accept his scarec face and damn flesh. Not even Molly's beggins to rething, the young rather chikd, than a woman, who'd change her mind once a difficulty appears. Charlie had his back, deffending your relationship. Even the twins were bugging you, but Bill did warned them tho, that there will be consequences!

One summer afternoon in june... Your heart stopped when you saw ...

Draco was talking to Ron. It was a week before your graduatuon. Unusuall, for Draco to be friendly and laugh with someone he disliked. You haven't spoken with the Malfoy heir in almost 2 months. After him and Ron had a nice chat he walked by you, smiling. A full of pain one, but a smile.

- Ronald said his brother treats you well, although his parents doesn't aprove.

- Neither did yours when we met.

He laughed.

- Mother asks about you, maybe you can come over to visit her some day.

- Will do, afternoon tea?

He nodded, walked away.

Rumour was, Daphne's young sister Astoria, had a crush on Draco for a while, but she was respectfully waiting for the wound to close. She was a cute and smart, carring girl, one who'll trully make him happy... Her pure heart could never... Do what yours did! After all that's what you wanted for him. If it wasn't too painfull to breathe without William, you'd probably just let the "stupid crush" go away, naming it after your "save them all" complex, and stay with the Dragon boy, because he still owned half your heart... A friendship, you not so long time ago, knew would last more than one lifetime, was now over... But he still was very dear to you.

4 years later... You were a Herbology asistant to Professor Sprout, and were about to get married to the handsome ginger cursebreaker.

The early morning classes surprised you with an eagle owl. The Malfoy seal... And invitation, asking you to come, to a baby party. A little picture added - icy blond, blue eyed boy was giggling at the moving paper - Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy. The invitation had plus one. You smiled, playing with your engagement ring. Draco would complain, mostly about your ring, how he woukd have bought you way better one. How you weren't treated properly... As you should have.

Then Bill would say, he'd bought you a bugger one if you haven't spend the money on muggle books... That cureently overflooded his not so small apartment. Then they both would laugh and you and Astoria will roll your eyes...

The pain he once had long forgotten... Sometimes in his eyes, you'd see a hint of bitterness... But he'd hide it too well, even from himself, choosing to be a dear friend of yours. Seeing each other trully happy, was indeed a bliss, after all you've been through.

Athelyna is introverted and observant. She has grand ambitions and goals. She is also kind and willing to give everyone a chance; however, she does not forgive and forget easily when someone crosses her.

She seems nonchalant about the fact that she doesn't remember anything before appearing in Kilima Valley, but it deeply bothers her. She will only share that with the people closest to her.

She is curious and always willing to learn. She is (somewhat secretly) desperate to know how she got here and why. She misses family and friends she can't remember.

To be honest, she's part OC and part self-insert. There's a healthy combo of both 😅

uuhhh spoilers i guess idk i feel like everyone knows what's going on now ajgdh

i just really love that reth never blames tish :') obviously it was his choice. no one asked him or forced him to do it. but she's still his sister and the only family member that treated him right. it would've been easy for the devs to spin it as reth feeling like he had to and blaming tish because of it. and tbf, reth did feel like he had to otherwise she would've died. but it's also like! he doesn't blame her! at all! because he knows that it was his choice, no matter how much it was for her, it was still his decision. he made the choice to get involved with the cartel to save her life, he made the choice to hide it from her, he made the choice to get a job at the inn so no one got suspicious, he made the choice to shy away from her as much as possible so she never caught on. and it would be sooo easy for him to blame these hardships on her illness, but he never does. and i just love seeing that. it's SO refreshing to see siblings who don't hate each other because one is disabled.

and again, i understand why that's so common and important to see. but i also feel like we almost only ever see characters hating their disabled siblings for Being Disabled. he doesn't even blame her for not noticing! (obvs she does later on but you know what i mean) if anything, he's happy that she hasn't because it means he gets to get away with helping her without her feeling guilty. she already feels guilty for how their parents treated him and the fact that he had to take care of her after they died, so he's mentally patting himself on the back for not adding to that. it's just,,, AAAGGGGHHHHHH so good dude :')

i absolutely love how the devs portray reth and his relationship with tish. i feel like so often in media we see siblings hate each other when one of them was sick/disabled/otherwise needed more care, and i do understand why this is common and important to see, but i also love that their relationship Isn't like that. reth still loves, appreciates, and wants to protect tish. he's also not completely overprotective either. he just. loves his sister! and wants to see her happy! and it would've been so easy for the devs to make him spiteful or envious of her but instead they made him a good brother which is So refreshing to see. i love that they have a good relationship with each other

Spoilers for Ashura's lvl 5 friendship quest. Mentions of Subira and Reth Tish and Zeki quests.

Listen, I want to be very clear so there's no confusion. Yes, what Ashura did was wrong. Yes, I hate militarism, governments, and cops. Yes, S6 often deals with subject matters that require a lot more content and grace than the little 5 minute dialogue quests we're given. But (imo) no, I don't think they're trying to make you sympathize with the military or even with veterans.

Really think about everything we know so far about these kingdoms and institutions with power. Really think about all of the characters we know, their backstories and motivations, and their actions throughout the story so far. Yes, Subira is a magic cop, but she was also isolated and groomed as a young child to become that and shows clear signs of doubting The Order in her later friendship and romance quests. Reth is firmly against the government and The Order for outlawing flow. Ashura, out of trauma and guilt, is so against the military that he tries to force his son out of that path despite understanding how Majiri society sees path deserters. Caleri keeps a stock of hidden books because she believes censorship is wrong.

Literally everything we know about the Palian Republic government, The Order, and their military history is painted as Bad within the narrative. As of right now, they are not the good guys, and we have multiple characters and quest lines that either directly say or heavily imply that.

Imo, Ashura's lvl5 quest doesn't change this. If anything, I think it's meant to be read as further proof that the government and Order can't be trusted. Ashura is pretty heavily painted as a Good Guy with a troubled past in the narrative. It's clear from the start that he has regrets and guilt from his military life, we're just not sure how far that goes. Then it's revealed he had the task of assassinating the Umbraan queen and accidentally killed the princess instead. He retired and changed his path because of that. Then tried to force his son away from the military life so he didn't make the same mistakes, and ruined his relationship with him in the process.

I understand that some people will feel uncomfortable with being forced to comfort and sympathize with Ashura, but imo, reading his story as military sympathism specifically, isn't quite... right? It's not being presented that way and literally everything else we know about them is Bad and is presented as Bad. The only character who likes The Order is Auni and that's cause he's like 8.

Imo, S6 wants you to be suspicious of the government and The Order while recognizing the grooming and brainwashing being done to its citizens. The narrative wants you to question culture, the status quo, and "right vs wrong". They're not doing a great job of showing it, but imo, that is the lesson here. Ashura's backstory isn't supposed to make you go "ah well maybe some soldiers are okay lol". It's supposed to make you go "ah shit the order is an oppressive force trying to assassinate foreign leaders and grooming young soldiers and watchers into believing surveillance and violence is the Right Thing". Similarly, Subira's whole deal isn't meant to make you think "cops good", it's meant to make you realize "ah shit the order is grooming young children into enforcing a surveillance state in order to oppress the masses".

Yes, both Ashura and Subira are meant to be sympathized with, but imo, that doesn't automatically mean sympathizing with the military or the powers. It's,,, in a not quite so eloquently written way, very similar to the Fire Nation in atla. Yes, they are bad, and yet Zuko's redemption and the sympathism of Fire Nation citizens living in poverty isn't meant to challenge that. It's meant to drive home the point that oppressive powers are Bad for Everyone. Zuko's redemption isn't "sometimes bad guys are Actually good guys", it's "sometimes bad guys are groomed from the start and given the right perspective, education, and chance are capable of changing and actually doing the right thing". That doesn't lessen the pain he has caused, it just gives him the chance to do right by people in the future.

I just think, given everything we know about these characters and the politics within this world, that Ashura's backstory is really not meant to make you sympathize with soldiers or the military. Any amount of sympathy for Ashura is supposed to go hand-in-hand with the suspicion of the government and The Order.

maybe this is a hot take but i feel like reading ashura's story and character as military sympathism is a bad faith interpretation given everything we know about him, the government, and the order

I also keep imagining the like. Family traditions on top of cultural traditions influencing what gifts they give their partner.

Like the more rural people are very focused on the whole "providing evidence that I can help provide for us and shelter us" thing. People from the big cities are probably more about flaunting their wealth and status that could be yours.

So Nai'o and Kenyatta, for example would have approached courting from wildly different levels and Nai'o just has a bunch of nice things in his room that he swears Auni to secrecy about. Kenyatta has obtained more veggies than Nai'o should probably have given away. Eshe knows and is mortified. Kenli thinks its sweet.

Jel probably has seven layers of "if I don't give gifts that reflect my family I'm not worthy of bringing someone into it". Likewise he's well aware a lot of practical skills outside crafting garments are beyond him.

Hassain has a calander once he processes that he's feeling these things again. And that the feelings might be returned. Theres furs, theres dried fish and fresh forage. Theres bags of seeds and whittled combs and a good skinning knife. He even buckles down and forges a cooking knife for them. He goes through ten versions before he's happy with it. Each gift is given at different times of day, on specific days, leading up to Courting Season proper. This is complicated if he's courting a human, because dragon knows where they're at most the time. But every gift the other person accepts makes him anxious they won't take the next entirely because he's dangerously happy they took the previous.

Tish has been working on a intricately carved bedroom set for the last 5 years. In preparation for whenever/if ever she wants to be with someone. There are fancy inlays on the wardrobe and scrollwork on the headboard. He bedside table has a depressed notch sized for a lantern so you dont knock it over when reading by candle light. Theres a chest of drawers with secret compartments for jewlery.

Hodari would be a year behind when he realizes he wants this. Because he'd have to emotionally process his feelings about his late wife and make sure his daughter was okay with a new addition vs someone just keeping him company. But then its robustly practical gifts. Ore and tools and the odd gemstone that he thinks they'll like. Its not a glamorous life he can offer but it could be a happy one.

Reth has about five panic attacks about it. Because getting involved with him is already a dicey proposition, let alone being serious enough to start Courting officially over it. Sure he can flirt and have flings, but that's not settling down levels. That's not "I'm trying myself to you forever" level. Not to mention traditionally he should be making them things. Furniture and utensils and decorations for a home he's promising them. And he's well aware hes shit at traditional things. Hes also deeply convinced he cant just give food because he already gives them food. But he cant afford to buy other gifts and short of begging Tish for help he can't make something... what ends up happening is he shows up with flowers and asks if that can be enough, if you'll take him.

Jina is mortified. Not because she doesn't want a relationship-- she does, very badly by the time she considers Courting Season at all--but because she's on a research expedition. She literally has nothing on her to give. This stress ends up resulting in Hekla sending dozens of humans on scavenger hunts to get her things. Because Hekla doesnt lime Jina stressed. Jina is promptly scandalized to hell and back.

I imagine poly situations are similar to an extent-- the goal is to at least befriend/get along with the other partner(s) of your initial interest. A fully fluid polycule situation vs a hinge is preferred for social cohesion but it's up to the situation.

The pins are essentially "we're committed and care for one another". Going steady v engagement, I'd imagine. I havent gotten to the pin talk in game yet so I'm spitballing.

My brain: What if the majiri have mating seasons. It's just another cycle thing about them.

Me: why

My brain: imagine the weeks beforehand are customarily for courting and anything outside of that is considered just kinda flirting. But if someone gives you stuff in that time it's basically saying "I very much want to be serious about this". And the actual season is mostly understood to be for weddings, spending time together, and trying to have kids if you want them.

Me: I have been zoned out for five mins pls I have paperwork

My brain: I imagine Hassain would have like five layers of traditional gifts to give. Hesitantly, because being serious is scary after... well. Reth meanwhile is pretty sure giving food wont cut it, because he always gives food. He's begging Jel and Tish to help him. Jel meanwhile is convinced that if he doesnt make a good enough house outfit his prospective partner will leave in disgust. Tish has spent three months on a bedroom set. There's carvings on all the wood. Hodari wouldn't want to admit to himself that he's been squirreling away an array of gemstones; he wants to give them to someone special but its Complicated.
