Not sure if this is accepted, but I can't stand how the man has so many kids but no much interaction. You just wanted attention. Sihtric, one of Uhtred’s most trusted men, was your father. Yes, you did love him, like the good daughter you were, but you wanted attention from him, just for him to show you more love. You knew that he loved you and your brothers, but he wasn’t home that often.

On the other hand, you had your mother, she was lovely, but she was always taking care of your younger siblings so she didn’t really have a lot of time for you. Your family was your safe place, but it didn’t feel like a normal family at all.

Every night, you would help your mum do the dinner, and you would eat with her and with your brothers, expect for your father, who would arrive hours later home. Some days drank, and some days so tired that he would not eat anything. Regardless, you understood him. Being a warrior was hard. And having a bunch of kids was even harder.

You admired him, you just want to be like him, even if being a woman that won’t stop you. You train in secret in the forest near your house. No one has seen you yet, except for Æthelstan, who sometimes helps you train. This is a little secret between the two of you.

He once had catch you on the act, so you begged him not to tell anybody. After persuading him for hours he finally accepted. With a condition, that you would not say anything about the incident with a goat…

‘Now block the attack!’ Æthelstan yells while swinging his sword against yours.

‘Good, that was good, you blocked it easily’ he congratulates you while smiling. He was a good teacher, but sometimes he would panic a bit.

‘Well if I didn’t you would have hit me’ you answer back at him with a grin.

‘True, I would have’ he laughs while blocking your attack.

You both keep on practicing until some hours have passed and tue others may wonder where you are. You hide your sword on an old tree and change back into your normal clothes, leaving them behind along with your sword.

You walked out of the forest and headed home, but while you were making your way across the village, a hand stopped you. You stopped on your track and turned to face the person who had touched you; it was yor father, Sihtric Kjartansson.

'Dad?' you asked surprised because you did not expected to encounter him in that moment since he always used to arrive home late.

'Are you well my darling? you look a bit pale I must admit. I should take you to your mother beside.' he said while leading you back home.

Once there, you went directly to your room and closed the door right behind you. You were upset, he would only care or pay attention to you if you looked sick so he could take you to your mother. You kn ew that you could never be like him, a warrior. You just wanted your father attention, between all brothers he never had time for you.

Days went by, and you were still upset at him, but you couldn't do anything since you were the one who spent most of your time at home with your mother. Being the only girl had its good and bad sides.

But of course that you wanted this to change, and you would get it done your way. A girls way. What every father hated was to see their daughters with any man. So you would make your father believe that you were seeing a boy but in reality you would just follow him.

After making a plan for days, you finally decided to put it into action, and today would be that day.

You dressed in one of your most beautiful dresses and began to follow your father to see where he was going, after locating him in an alehouse you began with your plan. You had made a deal with a friend of yours in exchange for a piece of silver. Your friend would pretend to be the boy you were seeing and like this you would get your father's attention.

You pretended to laugh and approached your friend to make yourself noticed, and it seemed to work, your father, sihtric, had all his attention on you. Afterwards, you separated from the boy and hugged him to say goodbye, as if you had spent the entire day together.

'Bye, I'll see you tomorrow!' you say to your friend while winking at him to keep going with the play. Your friend answered you back and blew a kiss towards you, which made your father mad.

You both kept up with your plan, and it seemed it was working cause day by day he was giving you more attention. Until one day; 'my daughter, come here' he says while walking towards you with his hand on his axe.

'What are you doing with that boy? I do not like him...you are too young to get pregnant' he talks with a cold expression.

'Dad...it is not what it looks like, let me explain please!' you beg before talking again. 'This is just a plan that my friend and I made up for me to get your attention, to follow you around!. You are never at home, and it's always mum and I taking care of everyone. I just want your attention, I'm your daughter and I desserve it.' I talk while leaving my father with a confused expression on his face before he answers me.

'I'm so sorry my child...I didn't know that you were feeling like this, you know that I love and care for you as much as I do with your mother and brothers. But you are right, I haven't showed it the best way...but I promise that if you give me a chance I'll make it possible' Sihtric finally concludes.

'Gods dad! see? that wasn't so hard to say' you tease while hugging him and feeling him envolve me with his arms returning the hug.

'Can you please teach me how to fight?' you ask smiling at your father hopping that he will say yes.

'No, you are young...' he answers while rubbing his hands across his braided hair.

'Then I must come with a new plan' you answer back while leaving him with a smile on his face.

Your father did not teavh you how to fight that day or the next, but you did came with a plan, and it did work.

“Mind your head,” Eldie told her guests as they stepped through the hatch. She offered a hand to steady them, just in case. Marcy could hear something snoring nearby as she accepted the assistance.

Arjun snorted and set his coffee down on the work table. More accurately, on one of the dozen books covering the table. “You’re the only one who needs to duck.”

“Oh.” Eldie looked back, and then down, as if only just realizing the height difference. Even Mihre only came up to her shoulder. “I suppose you are right on that. Did you raid the library, Arjun? This is quite the collection. I hope you didn’t try moving them all by yourself.”

“Looking out for my old bones, huh?” It sounded like a familiar topic. “Grabbed some muscle this time. Don’t worry about it.”

Anticipating the question, he reached behind the largest book stack and thumped something. The little raspy snores broke off with a sharp snort and Namina sat up, glowering blearily.

“Why ssmack?”

“Look sharp, our guests are here.”

“Floran is alwayss sharp,” Namina grumbled, but he smiled at the sight of Eldie, and got immediately headlocked by Mihre.

The older floran chuckled wickedly as Namina squirmed. “Ssso, used to hugging floran? Sprout owes me some stories, yes? Whoa!”

Marcy laughed as Namina stood up, Mihre dangling from his neck like a very surprised scarf. “Nyota pulled that trick with me once. Rule one of headlocking: don’t try it if they are bigger than you.”

“The more I hear about thisss Nyota, the less I like,” Mihre complained, still hanging on tight, “because it always Floran looking sssilly.”

“Shall we let the two of them catch up, then?” Eldie asked, her expression very neatly blank as only an apex could manage. The offer was perfectly polite, but her green eyes glittered with surprising mischief. “Do try not to damage the furniture.”

Mihre scrambled up onto Namina’s shoulders in an impressive display of agility, hooking their toes into the niches in Namina’s carapace for balance as he tried to shake them off. “Ah, so you have knowledge of Floran greetings.”

“Much knowledge. Sh— ” Arjun dove forward to rescue his coffee. “Hey, mind the books!”

“I did see you shoot him with a paint ball. This is mostly normal?” Eldie gently shepherded Marcy toward the ladder and away from the wrestling florans, adding helpfully, “The sparring room is upstairs. You are welcome to join us later.”

Mihre managed a thumbs-up before having to reassert their grip as Namina accepted that offer for them.

Marcy laughed as Eldie guided her down the ladder. “Does that happen often around here?”

“Well, usually it is Namina and Hadley, or sometimes Nyota,” Eldie admitted. “We don’t often have guests, you see. We do not usually stay in one place long enough for that.”

Marcy went quiet, thinking. “Is it because of the Miniknog?”

Eldie paused, considering that. The weight of the question settled on her cheeks through the careful polite mask. “Yes and no. Not directly,” she said at last, though Marcy could tell that the thought sat heavily on her as she slid the door to the medbay open. “We have managed to stay off their radar and out of space that they control. But Nyota does not want to stay still, in case we attract their attention too well and bring danger to the people we visit.”

“Fairly correct,” Nyota said. She was sitting up in bed, a comfortable shawl wrapped around her shoulders, and smiled in welcome as Marcy entered the room. “We have also found ourselves quite busy lately. Hello, Marcy. Oh—” Her smile warmed and softened as Marcy abandoned ceremony to wrap her arms around her friend. “I suppose I should open with ‘it’s not as bad as it looks’.”

“I know. You’re tough.” Marcy’s voice was muffled again, and the so-familiar, so-missed feeling of Nyota’s strong arms around her brought hot tears to her eyes. “Just humor me. I needed this.”

Nyota pulled her close. “I did too.” The gentle purr rumbled through them both and made everything feel soft, warm, right. She rubbed Marcy’s back a little, then reached up to bounce a curl that had escaped Marcy’s hair-tie despite Mihre’s best efforts. “You dressed up for me. That’s new.”

“A girl’s got to have fun sometimes, right?” Marcy quipped to cover her vague embarrassment. Mihre was probably right after all, she shouldn’t have bothered looking fancy for this. She felt silly now.

Nyota let go and sat back to get a better look at her. “You look nice.”

Marcy felt a lot less silly now. Or a lot more, it was hard to tell. She swatted Nyota’s arm lightly. “Why are you like this? You’re teasing me.”

Nyota laughed. “Perhaps. But I do mean it. Have fun, and don’t forget to stretch your legs every now and then.”

“If only that would make me taller,” Marcy said, earning another laugh. One of their oldest shared jokes, and it felt so perfect now, just sitting and trading words with her old friend. But it wasn’t quite perfect; Nyota’s hands were cold. Marcy pulled a chair over and sat beside her, pressing the apex’s huge hand between her small hands in an effort to warm it.

Nyota hummed softly and curled her fingers.

Marcy paused. “Am I being rough?”

“No.” Her hand stayed curled, but Marcy could feel her relax slowly, all of the tension fading out of her. “That feels nice.”

In a way, it's just sort of someone's interpretation of a source material, right? So it makes sense that people are going to see and do it differently! Movies, TV shows, music, all of it. And you're right, as long as the central meaning and the idea of the story is there, why should we care how someone does it? Also, it takes two seconds to not watch something if you don't agree with it -- that's what gets me! I have heard a lot of things about that, too! I think video game people tend to be even more picky than book people, maybe because they do have a visual to base things off of. Not at all! I'm someone who really enjoys it, too. It's always so interesting to see how someone else envisions the world I've read about. And like you said, maybe it's going to be different, but I think media like that is open to some changes as long as it's for the better and doesn't destroy the integrity of the original story. I know some people have been talking about that new TV show that's based on a game not being one hundred percent like the game, but if you wanted it to be exactly like the game, then why don't you just replay it instead, you know? G ratitude - How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?

She might not show it at times, but Camellia has always been grateful towards Valerius for helping and supporting her - unconditionally - during her questline, and that gives her that sense of security that's very important to her. So she is...very acutely aware of what he does for her, and she worries that sometimes she takes more from him than she gives. So it does lead to instances where later on, when they're in a committed relationship, that she tries to be a bit more considerate of his own needs: that he needs the same unconditional support from her that she needed from him - and he especially needs it emotionally, especially since he’s extremely prone to stress but very good at hiding or repressing it.

And he at least seems to recognize that she’s trying, even if she doesn’t know what to say. Sometimes just listening to him vent is enough for him, and he alwayss makes sure to thank her for helping (or trying to help.)

P DA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?

Octavia enjoys kissing and touching Dianthe in public and is extremely open in her affections, but Dia is a bit more reserved; she likes to keep her romances not....secret, but private at least, especially as a ruler. When so much of what she does is in the public view, she wants to keep something just to herself, and that something is her relationship with Octavia.

(That mischevious streak of Azata and fey blood in Dianthe’s veins though? She’s definitely considered at least being petty towards Regongar over it.)

About your mother, I may have the same struggle but with my father so I know what it feels like to just simply be exhausted of the family you were born in. Idk anything about your financial condition but bestie the best way for you (and for me) is to collect enough money and move out. You said it yourself in that post about the Pompei tower that distance puts alot of things in perspective and lets you breathe a little clearer. My father always made sure, and still does, I had everything I needed when it comes to material things but for the emotional and psychological part it's like I grew up without a father. He has always been a mere physical presence. One of the things that hurts me the most is the fact that I have never ever heard him say my name (which I hate but they both chose). But I try to ignore the hurt from the present also because I know that even if he'd start caring now it's not going to fill the emptiness that the little me grew up with. It's not gonna fix that. But I'm also trying to focus more on the skills I got from those painful experiences. It's because I was almost always alone (apart from school and form 6/7 pm), since I was 11 years old, that I love reading and books, they've been my friends since then, and I know how to stay by myself and gods and all the saints above help whoever the fuck try to steal my alone time from me, I need it! And always thanks to that I am responsible, whatever the fuck that means, and I can take care of myself, of my body at least. This way of acting is very subtle and cruel, like privacy, personal space and no don't exist for her. “Mind your head,” Eldie told her guests as they stepped through the hatch. She offered a hand to steady them, just in case. Marcy could hear something snoring nearby as she accepted the assistance.

Arjun snorted and set his coffee down on the work table. More accurately, on one of the dozen books covering the table. “You’re the only one who needs to duck.”

“Oh.” Eldie looked back and down as if only just realizing the height difference. Even Mihre only came up to her shoulder. “I suppose you are right on that. Did you raid the library, Arjun? This is quite the collection. I hope you didn’t try moving them all by yourself.”

“Looking out for my old bones, huh?” It sounded like a familiar topic. “Grabbed some muscle this time. Don’t worry about it.”

Anticipating the question, he reached behind the largest book stack and thumped something. The little raspy snores broke off with a sharp snort and Namina sat up, glowering blearily.

“Why ssmack?”

“Look sharp, our guests are here.”

“Floran is alwayss sharp,” Namina grumbled, but he smiled at the sight of Eldie, and got immediately headlocked by Mihre.

The older floran chuckled wickedly as Namina squirmed. “Ssso, used to hugging floran? Sprout owes me some stories, yes? Whoa!”

Marcy laughed as Namina stood up, Mihre dangling from his neck like a very surprised scarf. “Nyota pulled that trick with me once. Rule one of headlocking: don’t try it if they are bigger than you.”

“Shall we let them catch up, then?” Eldie asked. The offer was perfectly polite, but her green eyes glittered with surprising mischief. “Do try not to damage the furniture.”

Mihre scrambled up onto Namina’s shoulders in an impressive display of agility as he tried to shake them off. “Ah, so you have knowledge of floran greetings.”

“Much knowledge.” Arjun dove forward to rescue his coffee. “Hey, mind the books!”

“I did see you shoot him with a paint ball,” Eldie remarked. She gently shepherded Marcy toward the ladder and away from the wrestling florans, adding helpfully, “The sparring room is upstairs. You are welcome to join us later.”

Mihre managed a thumbs-up before having to reassert their grip as Namina accepted that offer for them.

Marcy laughed at the little incident as Eldie guided her down the ladder. “Does that happen often around here?”

“Well, usually it is Namina and Hadley, or sometimes Nyota,” Eldie admitted. “We don’t often have guests, you see. We do not usually stay in one place long enough for that.”

Marcy went quiet, thinking. “Is it because of the Miniknog?”

Eldie paused, considering that. “Yes and no. Not directly,” she said at last, though Marcy could tell that the question sat heavily on her. “We have managed to stay off their radar and out of space that they control. But Nyota does not want to stay still, in case we attract their attention too well and bring danger to the people we visit.”

“Fairly correct,” Nyota said. She was sitting up in bed, a comfortable shawl wrapped around her shoulders, and smiled in welcome as Marcy entered the medbay. “We have also found ourselves quite busy lately. Hello, Marcy. Oh—” Her smile warmed and softened as Marcy abandoned ceremony to wrap her arms around her friend. “I suppose I should open with ‘it’s not as bad as it looks’.”

“I know. You’re tough.” Marcy’s voice was muffled again, and the so-familiar, so-missed feeling of Nyota’s strong arms around her brought hot tears to her eyes. “Just humor me. I needed this.”

Nyota pulled her close. “I did too.” She rubbed Marcy’s back a little, then reached up to bounce a curl that had escaped Marcy’s hair-tie despite Mihre’s best efforts. “You dressed up for me. That’s new.”

“A girl’s got to have fun sometimes, right?” Marcy quipped to cover her vague embarrassment. Mihre was probably right after all, she shouldn’t have bothered looking fancy for this. She felt silly now.

Nyota let go and sat back to get a better look at her. “You look nice.”

Marcy felt a lot less silly now. Or a lot more, it was hard to tell. She swatted Nyota’s arm lightly. “Why are you like this? You’re teasing me.”

Nyota laughed. “Perhaps. But I do mean it. Have fun, and don’t forget to stretch your legs every now and then.”

“If only that would make me taller,” Marcy said, earning another laugh. One of their oldest shared jokes, and it felt so perfect now, just sitting and trading words with her old friend. But it wasn’t quite perfect; Nyota’s hands were cold. Marcy pulled a chair over and sat beside her, pressing the apex’s huge hand between her small hands in an effort to warm it.

Nyota hummed softly and curled her fingers.

Marcy paused. “Am I being rough?”

“No.” Her hand stayed curled, but Marcy could feel her relax slowly, all of the tension fading out of her. “That feels nice.”
