Limboverse

hello tumblr!

we've mentioned limboverse in our posts before, but we've never really explained what it is. so, here's an in-depth history and explanation of this roleplay/au!

long post incoming...

(let me set the scene. it's october, 2022.)

limboverse started as a ride the cyclone roleplay, (that I MADE (in a caffeine induced energy burst) -🌺) which takes place several years after the canon plot (the choir is roughly 20-21). we added fankids from alternate universes into it, as well-- savannah and donnie (spacedolls), amelie (nischa), and river (blackrose)

...everything started going downhill when dhar mann was introduced (11-10-22). it started off as a joke but soon enough, he was integral to the lore (being presumably a god and ricky's lover.) after dhar mann, we started adding other musical characters. spring awakening and falsettos were the first non-rtc characters.

for the next week or so it was extremely chaotic, with real people being brought in as jokes, leading to the creation of the "normal roleplay" channel. (the retired roleplay channel is still used for shitposting.) it was around here that non-musical characters were introduced in a serious manner.

as more characters were brought in, the setting was brought into question. it was impossible for all of these different universes to intersect naturally, so we made it fit. enter: limbo. (first mentioned: 11-14-22. began being used for worldbuilding around 12-09-22.)

and now for the actual explanation of what limbo is and how it applies to the roleplay!

-limbo is a ghost town with no way out. people (the characters) wake up in the surrounding forest and wander in. there are 3 main streets that have houses and a row of shops.

-it regenerates food and resources weekly. despite this, there is only one working fridge. the Limbo Fridge is located at the town center and is used as a landmark. there is an 82-year-old package of edamame in the fridge that has bad side effects when eaten-- also, it respawns/grows when removed. the victims of the edamame claim to have a psychic connection to it post-food poisoning.

-the actual roleplay portion of it takes place within the "limbo neighborhood watch" group chat. everyone who wakes up in limbo automatically has a phone with this installed. dms also exist for characters who came from the same universe-- groundhog day dms, falsettos dms, omori dms, etc.

-buildings within limbo: the store, mendel's psychiatrist's office/dispensary, the cafe, the marriage hall, and the pharmacy

-there is a giant groundhog.

and now, for the most used/iconic characters of limbo!

-MENDEL WEISENBACHFELD (falsettos). i guess you could say he's the antagonist of limbo? he's violently homophobic due to being a repressed bisexual. played by buddy.

-PHIL CONNORS (groundhog day). he is in constant anguish. married to rita. played by mart.

-RITA HANSON (groundhog day). also in constant anguish but more organised about it. played by theora.

-KEVIN PRICE (the book of mormon). got bullied and now he's not an asshole anymore. works at the cafe as a barista. his only friends are rita and 2 teenage girls. played by me (annie)!

-MARVIN (falsettos). hes a little hater. he's also in looooooove. played by sunny.

-WHIZZER (falsettos). sarcastic ass. he has a talking cat named colonel pumpkin. played by me, pt 2.

-ALL OF THE RTC CHARACTERS AND FANKIDS (will be expanded on later).

-OMORI KIDS (omori). sunny, basil, and kel. they are always up to some shit. played by annie, basil, and yuri.

“you tracked me here,” phil says, watching as rita sits down across from him, finger swiped across the side of his neck to reveal the tiny tracking device she'd left on him back in moscow. she smirks.

“the cia gets the cool toys,” she says. phil nods.

“oh, really?” he says in mock surprise. “well, the fbi likes to go it old-school." rita hears a click and feels something hard against her knee. her eyes widen, jaw dropping slightly, glancing up, only to see phil smirking.

“this is my gun, by the way,” he clarifies, and rita smiles.

“do you want me to twist your arm again?” she asks. “we both no i'm very good at it.” phil's face falls, flashing back to their last encounter. now rita smirks. “then i suggest you put the gun away, cavalier.” phil sighs, doing as told.

“oooh, she told you!” larry says from his spot next to phil, smiling giddily despite having his hands cuffed behind him. both agents turn to look at him and he shrinks beneath their intense gazes. “okay, i'll shut up.”

OOC  •  So. That hiatus went on longer than I intended it to.

Long story short, while recovering from the surgery I had in December I got diagnosed with a second chronic illness, then at the start of January I tested positive for coronavirus. And then I fell down some stairs and injured my foot so badly I’m gonna be on crutches until at least the end of next month. 2021 got off to a cracking start, clearly.

Somewhat inspired by @wasworthy​, I’ve decided to revamp my docs (and y’know, actually finish them, for a change). I’m also changing my icons! I won’t be doing any writing until that’s all done, just to make things a bit easier on myself. When I do start writing again, I’ll probably run things on a queue so that my activity stays a bit more consistent!

I’m gonna reply to IMs now, and then get back to making icons.

Before I go though, here are some important changes regarding my muses:

•  I’m temporarily moving my 3 muses who had their own blogs over here - Rita Hanson from Groundhog Day, Strat from Bat Out of Hell, and the Master of Ceremonies from Cabaret. I miss writing them, so hopefully they’ll be fairly loud now they’re here!

•  I’ve got rid of the ‘private muse’ category on my muse list. Now they’re just ranked by activity level, and then there’s a section for ‘test muses’ who’ll either disappear eventually, or move into one of the other categories.

•  Jennifer Honey’s faceclaim will be changing to Lashana Lynch, thanks to the inspired casting for the upcoming Matilda film.

•  Anathema Device from Good Omens has been removed from the blog, for now.

•  The following characters have been added as test muses:      •  Adeline ‘Addie’ LaRue, from The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue.     •  Lady Agatha Danbury, from Bridgerton.     •  Clara-Marie Stahlbaum, from The Nutcracker.     •  Emily Deetz, from Beetlejuice.     •  Wanda Maximoff, from Marvel.

     Each and every year, the idiotic citizens of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania gather at Gobbler’s Knob for the annual few minutes of watching a rodent supposedly predict the weather; next year, though, people of a much higher standard will flock to the ever-infamous small town for an event far more enjoyable than a morning spent in the cold, shoulder to shoulder with some bum just trying to get a couple dollars or a few minutes with you in an alleyway. No, next year, Groundhog Day of 2020, the city of Punxsutawney will pay witness to the greatest wedding their small-town-USA minds have ever seen: the Hanson-Connors wedding, done as extravagantly and detailed as their lives have always tried ( yet failed ) to be. The station wants him to cover the dreaded holiday again; Rita probably wants him to quit, to go to another station that treats him better ( one that doesn’t assign lackeys to check in on him, to tell him to “try to stop being so crazy” --- true words, spoken by his latest goon. God, he wished they hired hitmen instead; at least that would be more fun ). 

     Magically, the two have the same evening off from work; Phil has candles lit, autumn scents flooding the small apartment as they sit side by side, laptop and tablet running in their laps. They have the venue picked --- the dreaded call with the owner having been done weeks ago; Phil still complains about it from time to time, too --- “Rita, he tried to hike the price up! I’m not paying an arm and a leg just to hold a party in some glorified barn!” --- and sure, maybe he complains too much. Maybe he expects too much from these backwoods losers, but he just wants the event to be perfect in every way. He holds his tablet out towards his fiancee, showing her a potential color scheme: burgundy and cream, displayed in the cutlery, tablecloths, and chair covers. “...how about this one?” he asks, quirking an eyebrow in her direction.
