do u have the fic of bond reading spy novels 😩😩 i have a soft spot for reader!bond
Ah the one I shouted out (Bond stealing Q's copies of his trashy spy novels & then returns it with notes written in them) isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it is still fun. Here's the fic: In Which There is a Laser Pointer
In terms of Bond as a reader.. I know there's at least one other fic that mentions it tho again, don't know what fic it is rn. If I come across it again I'll post the link (or if anyone else has recs along this lines, feel free to drop the link!)
#asks answered#00q#anonymous#there's other fics with Bond reading too but like most it isn't the focus just one of the points in it#not reading directly but This Little Light of Mine has Q hacking into Bond's library records from the navy#and recording himself reading the Emily Wilson translation of the Odyssey as an audiobook to help Bond sleep#there's also a fic of Bond getting reading glasses which spiritually fits with Bond as a reader#I think that fic is called sth like goldilocks and the three pairs#book club

I’m personally a fan of Stanley Lombardo’s translations of the Iliad and the Odyssey. The audiobooks for them are really good as well since he recorded them himself, so most of the time I just put those on and vibe. But really it just depends on what kind of reading experience you enjoy. Lombardo is a good mix I think between a poetic and prose interpretation (not the full rhyming couplets of the Victorian era, but still keeps the poetic nature of the epithets, repetition, extended metaphors, etc., and there still feels like there’s a good rhythm to it), but some people prefer something that leans more one way or the other, and that’s totally valid. Afraid I don’t have as much insight on other versions since I fell in love with Lombardo’s pretty early on in my classics career and never looked back, but I know that many sing the praises of Fagles as a good, classic translation, and Emily Wilson has gotten a pretty positive reception as well in my circles.
Good luck in your hunt for the perfect version for you!
Very Important Question:
if I were to purchase the Iliad and the Odyssey which version/translation should I get? There are so many of them, and I don’t know where to start…

admittedly this started off as me thinking of the siiilky silky smooth way Ben Whishaw Q says "007" and thinking about, like, situations where Q gets Bond off on his voice alone
but then this reminded me of the fic where Q records himself reading books for Bond to play as audiobooks to help him fall alseep
and anyway, here is another unsolicited reading assignment for y'all, lmao:
Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: James Bond (Craig Movies) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: James Bond/Q, James Bond & Q Characters: James Bond, Q (James Bond) Additional Tags: MI6 Cafe Festive Fanwork Fiesta 2022, Prompt Fill, Pre-Slash, Pre-Relationship, almost (but not quite) domestic, a dash of hurt/comfort Summary: After the events of Skyfall, Bond spends his nights alone and sleepless in his empty new flat. There's simply no way Q can let that stand. A prompt fill for the 2022 MI6 Café Festive Fanwork Fiesta! Written for the prompt, “After Skyfall, Bond gets himself a new flat in London. Q gives him an ugly thrifted yellow desk lamp as a housewarming gift. Bond is baffled, but oddly touched.”
(fr. the Emily Wilson translation of The Odyssey, which hell yeah hell yeah hell yeah excellent selection hell yeah!!!)
