I started by stalking your blog and thinking about the different characters we both love, particularly lisbon and beckett. I remembered being attacked by a gifset you made of Beckett in 4x09 (the therapy one) and thought about my own connections to that episode, as well as the themes in that episode that can connect to different characters that you and I both love.

then today I was thinking about Jane's motto with Charlotte—you are safe, you are loved, and you are wise—and I decided to use that as the theme, because I think many of the characters we love either need or miss that type of parental relationship. so these are songs meant to remind them (cough, you) of those things.

[I didn’t have the psds saved so I had to remake them but as far as i remember this is how I made the original ones too since my process hasn’t changed a lot since then.]

Planning

Surprisingly all three of the above gifsets were part of my the untamed x color series so not a lot of thought was put into the panning since the scene or characters were already chosen for me. 

If a scene isn’t specified like the last two I go through the episodes or clips to pick out the scenes i want to gif or those which would look good based on the general theme of the set.

(this is a part of the cql folder where i’ve clipped out the major/ defining scenes. please excuse the ridiculous names asjjsd it helps me remember what they contain)

Creating

For this tutorial/process I’ll explain the wangxian in purple one in detail and then go over the other two briefly since it’s almost the same process.

So I selected the exchange between wangxian where wwx’s talking about helping out with the yin iron and imported it.

Then I converted to timeline before converting the layers to smart filter. After this I start my base coloring process which is just messing around with the curve and selective color layer until i get the skin tones accurate and the over all, the gif more brighter.

Now since the request called for purple/indigo I added another selective color layer and the adjusted the cyan and blue options under it to make it purple instead. **what i usually is that I adjust the colors slightly in one layer and then adjust a little more after adding another layer. 

it resulted in three more layer (which sometimes get adjusted even in the end if it looks like it needs more tinkering.

Overlay:

The hunt for overlay usually takes the longest unless I don’t already have it saved. I was just going through my folder when I realized it might look good with this. So I opened, cropped and resized the snow gif and then after converting it to smart filter duplicated it onto the lwj gif.

I play around with the blending options (for this one I used color dodge) and since this doesn’t obstruct the main gif I only used the layer mask for lwj’s face after decreasing the opacity like this.

Then after adding my watermark I finally convert everything to smart filter again, then smart sharpen my gifs (using the settings 0.5) and adding gaussian blur (setting it to 0.3) before exporting it and saving for the web.  

Here’s the finished result as compared to the original.

Posting

Like Monica I can’t keep gifs in my draft more then a day (and that too is a stretch lmao, the itch to post is real sjdjdsj). So i either queue it for the next day day if its getting really late or just post it right away. I don’t save any psds unless I really like the coloring of it and even that gets deleted after a week. (the only gifs that get saved occasionally are gfxs for future reference).

2- Coloring for Wangxian x Rainbow

For the rainbow series, I had to make a list of all the scenes I wanted to add ( i wanted to include all the landscape/scenic ones with wangxian so that involved going through a lot of episodes). The whole process is nearly the same apart from the coloring which required more selective color layers and masking (i forgot to save the picture after applying the masking in this one, oops!)

this is hard because i hate 80% of the things i make, but right now it’s probably this kanej + graveyard set, this favourite luke outfit(s) set, and this luke + ghost of you set

this julie/flynn gifset for jatpww21 because they always deserve better and also because i learned something new in that and i was very proud of it :(

14. How long does it usually take you to make a set

it depends! my laptop/photoshop is old & laggy so it takes ages to load the files but if it’s just a simple gifset without any blending + typography, it probably takes an hour or two (including recolouring!). if it’s something that involves more than one scene in the same gifs (blending, or just multiple tiny gifs) then it can take me an entire day working on it on & off!

so basically anywhere between 1-8 hours lmao

19. What is your gifting process like

again, it depends! for the colour palette meme (which is what i’ve been doing lately), i see what the request is (solo character, a ship, or just general) and that gives me an idea of how many gifs to put in a set (it’s the same with my movie every year meme), and then from there i usually have a vague idea of what scenes i want to gif so i’ll go find them. sometimes the scene works perfectly but then sometimes i have to find a new scene or shift things around.

for my random other gifsets i usually base it off a song so i’ll listen to that song on repeat, figure out what clips i need and what lyrics i want to add. once i find those i just make the gifs and cry over which font pairings to use only to use my default and then slap on colouring and unleash it onto the world!

i also have the habit of starting one idea and then come up with a completely different idea midway through so i have to start from scratch about 4 times before i’m completely satisfied.

I don’t know that any of my sets that really deserved it flopped, per se. But. Compared to others posted around the same time, probably this one? Or this one? But if we’re talking sets I expected to get more notes because "wow yeah, they Did That™” then definitely this one.

I noticed a GoT parallel that I hadn’t seen mentioned anywhere that I wanted a gifset of, but I was too much of a control freak to request it from anyone else, so I went and learned how to gif to do it myself lmao

Probably 6-8, just because those allow the most flexibility in terms of dimensions, but in general I think it really depends on the idea

Absolutely. It made me start double, triple, and quadruple proofing before I export though, so I think it’s made me a better artist

LMAO, I guess Barry does pout at least once a season. And when he pouts, he tends to ask Iris for space or otherwise be sullen. I loved seeing them as a team earlier in the ep, though, so I hope we get more of that next week. And I don’t mind Barry’s no-kill rule at all, but I’d like him to explore it more in-depth.

Devoe stole her powers using Melting Pot’s powers, so I imagine they can get her back by having Devoe touch Caitlin again. I do imagine Cecile will give birth in the finale so that the season ends with new life, and I still think Harry can go either way. Devoe took the dark matter as Harry generated it, so that may be the end of that story or he may go dark trying to extract vengeance on Devoe.

I don’t see a part 2, but I imagine we won’t know what the Enlightenment is until Devoe tries to make it happen sadly.

I’ve never read TF comics but from what Ive seem on sm The Trial of The Flash was a big storyline and yet I feel they didn’t do it justice on the tv show. I love good courtroom drama and I was disappointed how short the story was. What do you think?

It was a big storyline, but Iris was dead for most of it so I’m not upset they changed it lmao. That being said, I agree that the trial itself went by too quickly. It should have been two episodes, and Barry should have gotten a real defense.

Tati what, if any, significance do you attribute to the purple lighting during the Iris and Marlize fight sequence? Was it just a really pretty way for them to shoot the scene or is there a deeper meaning?

To me, the significance is that STAR Labs is Iris’ space and purple is her signature color now. So it was meant to remind us of Run Iris Run and, I suppose, foreshadow the legacy that will come from Iris.

Those statements from AJK regarding Ralph make me think that he (and/or some other higher-ups) maybe thought the well was beginning to run dry when it came to Barry’s story & wanted to shift some of the focus to a new up & coming hero. Wouldn’t surprise me if there were some reservations about letting Barry have his happily ever after with Iris so “early” in the show’s run. I feel like they’re not sure where to take him now.

I have no doubt AJK was worried the well would run dry, because once Barry “wins” Iris, what’s left? That’s how his mind clearly worked. But like I said before, I think that’s also why Dawn is coming: Barry and Iris as parents is the next step, just like Candice said.

For AJK to say some mess about Ralph keeping the show on longer, it's as if he didn't have any faith in the cast he already had, including the star of the show. Do you think Todd would answer a question about any Ralph plans for next season? Is there any way to let him know we don't want anything Ralph related? Feeling very desperate right now for one of the only shows I care about besides BL and LOT. The latter is on a time out from me right now though.

Todd won’t answer on Twitter, but I’m sure he would in an interview. The only way to really let him know we don’t want more Ralph is to tweet @flashtvwriters and @chipeyt. But be careful, he’s liberal with the block button.

1. [ Hijikata Toshizo ~ Hakuouki ] : So..... If you read my tags, you know that I am NEVER satisfied with my colourings. But... idk why, when I look at this gifset I feel satisfied with what I did, I love the colors and it looks smooth (I would maybe change the font I used tho) ! Plus Hijikata is my fav in Hakuouki, he is so gorgeous so I’m glad I could make a good enough colouring.

2. [ Shouto Todoroki ~ BNHA ] : I’m kinda surprised about this one ! It got so many notes :o I really like it, especially the contrast the middle gif brings in the whole edit. Plus, I am glad it came out well since it was for Angel’s birthday ♡

I have made a lot of edits about it and I love all of them but I couldn’t just list those haha I chose this one because I love the blue and pink tones I used, and even if I’m bad at making “simple/minimalistic” edits, I feel like this one kinda worked out !

4. [ Takeru Sasazkua ~ Collar X Malice ] : I wanted to try a new style of graphics. And I surprised myself thinking this one wasn’t so bad even if I had NO inspiration that day ! Liked the colors I used, and the “website”-like feels it gives off. Made 2 other characters with this style (I need to do all of them!!!!!!)

5. [ Steven A. Starphase ~ Kekkai Sensen ] : I had such a hard time with this one ! I am so bad at those color palette meme lmao And when Janis sent me that request, I started to search for great scenes I could gif and I was like “okay there’s no way I’ll be able to make pretty purple shades for those gifs”. And after hours trying to figure out how to make this gifset work, I finally liked what I was doing ! Glad Janis liked it btw ♡

Hi linh, so when making 3x3 gifsets, the dimensions should be 177x177 right? I've read some people say the middle gif should be 178 and as a newbie I'm confused, should the width be 178(or height or both?) And why's that? Thank you so much!!

the height should match the height of the other ones! if you like your gifs to be squared... then the middle ones would be 178x177 so it doesn’t get rescaled again

i use stipslerie’s sharpening action! but ngl ive been really lazy recently so i haven’t really used any sharpening LOL

i have an request, i don't think its been done before but I could be wrong. when robert kidnapped ryan he said he did it for the three of them (when he was chasing aaron through the village). when aaron kidnapped lachlan he said he done it for robert. can you do a gifset parallel of the kidnappings and those moments. they just make me laugh, kidnapping people as presents for one another. like when my cat brings me dead birds and expects praise. hahaha
