Strawberry Fields... Where Nothing is Real
Hi all! I wrote an Au about the lovely George Harrison <3 I've always loved The Beatles but it wasn't until this year I really got into each individual Beatle as an artist after they broke up. But nontheless here is an Au I wrote one night trying to get my inner feelings out for a musician gone too soon.
I hope you all enjoy <3
btw him with this guitar is iconic. I can't - breathe.
It was 1967, the Beatles were at the height of their fame, and the boys were having a release party for a new record that was set to be released. You had been in love with George for a while now, of course you had, every single woman who came around tended to fall head over heels for the man. You had become one of the unlucky girls, although you hid it well because you didn't want to lose your assistant job.
You had started out as their assistant, helping run errands and fetch whatever they needed. You were a pretty girl; with a Hispanic background who somehow ended up living your whole life in Liverpool like the boys. You had jet-black long hair and beautiful caramel skin that turned pale when you didn't go out in the sun for a long time. Big brown eyes that you considered ugly due to the fact most of the boys tended to go after the girls with beautiful blue or green eyes.
You weren't the jealous type either, except for when it came to Pattie, although she was nice, she often caught the eye of George. You knew you had no reason to be jealous though, not because you couldn't be because of your contract, you just knew no matter what, George had never once tried or at least never seemed interested in you from day one. You weren't hurt by this either, you just knew you had fantasies that would never play out the way you wanted. And you were okay with all of that.
Until, that day, the day of the Beatles' album release party, you had decided to wear a nice flowy dress with flowers all over. You wore some brown platform shoes to give you a few inches of height as you were a shorter girl. You had accidentally taken the wrong turn a few blocks away and thus were late to the party by an hour. This had never happened before, and you'd hoped Brian wouldn't fire you over a small mistake. How were you supposed to know the street was a one-way?
Anyhow, you arrived how people would say, "fashionably late". When you walked through the big wooden doors you saw Brian and his date casually drinking whatever they had in their cups. "Oh, look it's the beautiful y/n!", he said loudly quickly bringing a cup to your face. The smell of vodka hit your nostrils; Brian was offering you what seemed like a cup full of vodka. "Come on y/n! You work so hard! Relax for one weekend! Come on!", the girl next to him was eyeing you with jealousy. She had no idea you only had eyes for George. Nobody did.
With the music coursing through your veins, you grabbed the cup and took a big swig of it. "WOOO! Y/N!", Brian yelled, he was gone, to say the least. From the corner of your eye, you saw Ringo, you excused yourself away from Brian to the chill and peaceful Beatle, Ringo Starr. "Hello their love. What took you so long? We were all looking for you". You smiled at his words, the hot feeling in your stomach was growing as your boldness grew more and more. "Oh really? You asked slyly. Ringo and you had been close for years, he even was dating one of your closest friends, so you had no hate for the guy. In fact, you loved his whole peace motto. George was the one you really loved talking to and even though you had just taken a swig of that drink you had begun to feel the effects of vodka on an empty stomach. "Where is everybody else?", you asked not wanting to get too specific of course.
"Ah... they're all out back y'know talking to guests", Ringo rolled his eyes, after knowing him for a few years you knew he disliked reporters. Always wanting to get the "in" on whatever drama could be going on between the beloved four. "Oh okay". You said nonchalantly, what else could you say to the man? He had been talking to a girl and she had begun eyeing you jealously as well. You excused yourself starting to feel small again. You grabbed a cup out of Brian's hand and chugged it down. "WOOOO! Y/n you are on fire tonight madam!", he laughed drunkenly and embraced you. You giggled, and just then you felt a hand tap you on the shoulder, turning around you saw Paul. Geez, were you seeing all the men in the band except the one you truly wanted to lay eyes on?
"Hey, darling". Paul said cheerfully, he was never one to go all out and drink like that instead he often paired his fingers with a blunt to keep him chill for the night. "Hello Pauly", you said coyly, calling him by the pet name you gave him many years before. "Where have you been y/n? George has been asking for you for a while now". He said, your heart began to flutter. "Really?", was all you were able to muster out of your mouth. Paul smiled as if he knew something was up by the way you responded. "What?", you asked nervously. "He's waiting for you outside by the buddha fountain", was all Paul said before grabbing two cups full of whatever vodka drink from a waiter nearby. Handing you one he smiled, took a swig, and walked away smiling.
Your heart was beating fast, you were happy and yet you were nervous. Why had George been waiting for you? Maybe he just wanted you to fetch something for him like he usually did? Oh well, you thought, with the cup in your hand you went outside towards the buddha fountain George liked so much.
Outside you saw him, he wore a nice navy-blue suit with fine white lines. He looked sophisticated and handsome, his hair was shoulder length, the style you had come to love when the band began to grow out their hair. He had a cig in between his fingers and was bringing it up to his lips when he noticed you. A smile spread across his face, the vodka had now been the reason you were able to casually walk up to him and tell him, "So, darling... I've heard you've been looking for me?", you asked with boldness in your voice.
He chuckled, "Yes dear, I was wondering if you'd ever show up", he smiled offering you a bum of his cig. You took it while putting the cig in between your lips you looked at the man, his gorgeous eyes meeting yours. As you took a long drag, he said, "Darling, you look beautiful tonight.", he smiled kissing your cheek.
Your cheeks flushed; you passed the cig back to him after a few drags. "Now I know what the Harrison effect is", you giggled mentioning the phrase many spoke as the way George had with many women. He loved the attention of any woman who crossed his path. Then a new thought crossed your mind, what would make you any different?
He smiled, "No Hun, the only woman I'd ever wanted to have an effect on was and is you". You smiled but the thought still lingered in the back of your mind. You watched as from the side Pattie came up to you both, she smiled her way getting George's attention. He gave in, smiling, you looked at the two of them and smiled as you made up an excuse to leave.
As you walked back inside you chugged the rest of your vodka-mixed drink. You went into the kitchen wanting to find water to even out everything, and while you were there you grabbed a cup from one of Brian's shelves and went over to the fountain. Turning the faucet on, you let the cold water fill up the glass almost all the way to the top. You looked out the window that was above the sink, it gave you a view of the backyard. You watched as George and Pattie talked, they were laughing and she got closer to his face more and more while she laughed. You sighed taking a big gulp of the water.
"Ah these two...", a voice next to you startled you. You jumped to your left was now John, had he been watching you this whole time? "Hi John", you said gulping more of the water. "You know, if you like the guy you should go tell him. Before someone else confesses their feelings", John looked down at you sincerely. You knew he knew now how you felt about George. "How do I tell him when he is obviously into someone else?", I sighed asking John. "Trust me, darling, he doesn't feel the same way for her as he does for you. You should probably know that by now. The number of times he talks about you, fetches you to get something for him just so he can see you. Well, I've lost count by now". John chuckled, bringing his cup to his lips.
You looked out the window again, this time George was alone, his cig was to his lips as he looked at the Buddha and the fish that swam in the fountain. "I think I'll go talk to him. Thank you, John,", you turned to him and smiled.
As you walked back outside you watched the handsome guitarist under the lights Brian had set up. He continued watching the fountain not noticing you until you spoke. "Hello George", you said, George looked up and instantly smiled when he noticed it was you who spoke his name. "I like it when you say my name", George said, not even realizing what you said but feeling the comfort of safety when he was around you. You smiled; your cheeks began to turn to a rosy pink. "I must tell you something... for a while now I've had feelings for you. I never knew if you felt the same way. But after tonight, I just couldn't keep it hidden anymore. Life is too short to keep anything hidden and I think you feel the same way about me too. So, I just-". You were cut off as George threw down his now finished cig, he grabbed you close to him, cupping your face, and he locked eyes with you. His beautiful eyes dilated as he looked into your soul, "I find you irresistibly attractive and I will not spend another day on this planet without you being mine". He looked at you and then pulled you in for a kiss.
As your lips met the fireworks in your stomach grew and then exploded. You had not been with someone who made you this hot in all the years you had been alive. In fact, you felt in this moment more alive than ever. As his soft lips touched yours, he pulled you closer and closer until you were one. You knew then and there the two of you would become inseparable. There would be many love songs dedicated to you in the future.
What you didn't know was from the kitchen, Brian, Paul, John, and Ringo all watched. They smiled, "Finally", Brian said with a liquefied smile on his face. The rest of the boys nodded in agreement. They were happy to see the two of you finally in an embrace that had been long overdue.
Strawberry Fields, where everything is real after all. Where love finds itself next to a Buddha fountain.
End.

Uhh I’m so soft for this concept😔💖 like how each lad would react to reader singing one of their songs
Oh my gosh, yaaaas 🥺🥺 I did some little headcannons for this, I hope that's alright!
George
So first off, I could see the reader like practicing playing guitar and trying to learn it and all, right?
Like, it's such a huge part of George's life, you want to understand it a little more!
Plus let's be real, playing an instrument is pretty cool, so... lol
But of course it needs to be a surprise bc you don't want him to hear you while you're still bad at it djdjsjs
You're practicing "Here Comes the Sun", singing along softly to George's voice
Things are going great!
... Until that same old cord combo trips you up
You cringe at the sour note you've just struck, followed by a frustrated groan
No matter what you can't seem to get it right, and you've been trying for ages!!
Ruminating in your thoughts you let the record go on and try to think of what you could do differently
At least George wasn't here for that
"Why'd you stop singing love?"
Shi-
Cue an awkward, stumbling explanation from you about your mission to learn guitar, and how it's not working out so far
George just smiles, he's so touched that you'd take the time to try and do something like this for him
"Nonsense, you just need a teacher"
Your face lights up at that, and he struts into the room
He walks over to the record, picks up the needle and holds it for a moment as he turns back to you
"But only if I can hear that pretty voice again"
He smirks teasingly, but you laugh and give your word
Finally he resents the record, pulls up a stool behind you, and guides your hands from behind you through the trouble spots while you sing along soft as an angel in his ear
You end up going through that song quite a few more times, just for good measure ;)
John
Ok I'm trying to think of something sweet for John, but honestly? The first thing that pops into my mind when I imagine this scenario is you two causing each other mischief lmao
Like John loves music and the Beatles and all, obviously, but when that's your ENTIRE LIFE it's nice to get away sometimes you know?
Of course, that down time is what he'd expect to get at home with you, but I really feel like any true SO of John's would be as much of a trolling master as he is
So yeah, basically, you're a TERROR with singing his songs
Like, when he's having some downtime, maybe a book or some tea, here you come out of literally nowhere
"COME ON COME ON COME ON BABAAAAY, TwiST aNd ShOUt"
Or when he's brushing his teeth before bed
"AAaaAAAaAaAAAahHHHH SO YOU SAY YOU WANT A REVOLUTIO-ON"
At first he's annoyed, but after a while he catches on and returns the favor
Basically it's an all out singing war in yous guy's house lmao
The only difference is, John has his voice and a guitar so you're in trouble luhv 😌
Like you're having some self care time in your room and he slams the door open like an absolute mad man, whips out his guitar, strumming with fervor, and just-
"SO tHiS Is ChRiSTmaAAAAS"
It's all fun and games tho!
You see, the secret he won't tell you is that he can't get enough of your voice, no matter how "bad" of a singer you think you are
So even though you're usually just messing, it gives him a sense of pride and fulfilment hearing that you care enough to remember and sing all his songs back to him
Even if you're a little shit sometimes <3
Paul
For Paul, I feel like reader would be just SUPER SHY singing for/around him
I mean... He's THE Paul McCartney, you know? Like his songs are amazing and you're afraid to ruin them with your out of practice singing
(which would totally not be the case, btw)
And yet... You just can't help yourself!
His love songs are so sweet and silly, they just put a smile on your face and make you think of him
One day you're lost in your chores of the day and start singing a quiet and sweet rendition of Love Me Do
Paul is just a few feet away doing the dishes
It takes him a moment, but once he picks up on your voice he turns off the water and stops what he's doing to listen
You're voice is gorgeous and he immediately wonders why you don't sing more often
Before long he can't hold in his glee any longer and he whips around and bursts into song with you, adding his voice to yours as you start the next verse
You freeze upon realising what you've been doing, and even worse, at having been caught
But, to your surprise, Paul motions for you to keep going
As he should!!
And when you're still not sure, he dances his way over to you and takes your hands in his wet and soapy ones, then gives you a spin
The chores are soon forgotten as you both dance in the kitchen, laughing and singing a perfect harmony as you finish the song together
Paul looks at you with eyes full of wonder
"That was amazing love! Ya' know any others?"
??? Of course you do lol ??
The two of you move this party to the living room and sing along to a whole records worth of his songs, Paul praising your voice all the while
Ringo
For Ringo I could see just some super soft stuff leading up to you singing
Like maybe it's been a long day of recording for him or he's just feeling a bit frustrated bc the other lads get to sing all these songs, amd he feels left out!
Or even worse, like maybe he's just not as talented as the others!! :(
So yeah, to start the two of you would be spending a chill evening in bed while all that's going on in his head
You're cozied up against a throne of pillows and Ringo has his head nestled on your lap
It's a little strange to see him feeling down, he's usually always so smiley and happy
If only there was something you could do to cheer him up...
As you sit there, petting his hair, and idea comes to you
You start humming "I Wanna be Your Man" and look to see if he notices
"Do you know this one love? It's one of my favorites"
Ringo looks up at you curiously, listening intently
You add in the lyrics soon enough in a soothing, slow cover
"Oh, that old song?"
You earn a little smile from him and he sits up
"Mhm!" You smile back, happy to see Ring more like himself
Now that his spirits are beginning to rise, you add a little layer of humour and alter your voice to try and match his deeper one like it is on the record
He laughs but you don't stop, you even give him an encouraging nudge to sing along with you
And of course he does!!
Which thankfully frees you up to go back to your normal voice as the two of you sing a few more verses together
Your voices blend beautifully, complimenting one another as you weave them together
Suddenly, Ringo gives you a kiss and then laughs his familiar, goofy laugh
"Lovely voice like that, maybe we should get you in there to record some songs"
You humbly decline of course, but Ringo replies
"If you say so, but... How about one more?"
He cuddles back into your lap, looking up at you hopefully with his big puppy like eyes
How can you say no?
You resume stroking his hair and launch into a playful rendition of "Honey Don't"
And Ringo, loves it

Tiny Dancer
John X Reader
Caution: Heated moments, Strong language, Sexual references.
I’m actually quite proud of how this one turned out.
Enjoy, my cuties.
~~~
The room was on fire.
Not literally, of course, but the hundred bodies cramped up in a tiny club, definitely made it feel that way.
I love to dace, what can I say?
So here I was, in the heat of the moment, shoving away my introvert, and dancing like there was no tomorrow.
Maybe there wouldn’t be.
Who the fuck cares?
A few hours earlier, I was chatting with my best friend.
“I’ve got a man. You need a man! Babe, you could get any guy that you want, all you gotta do is look at him.”
Rolling my eyes, I sighed. “Lisa, I don’t need anybody. Just chill out. I’m fine just the way I am.” I smirked “Untouchable.”
“Dude, you can’t stay a virgin forever.”
“Yes, I can watch me!”
“Wanna bet?”
“Yes, actually.”
She grinned “I bet you 100 dollars to go to Mark’s tonight and get roaring drunk. If you comeback a virgin, I’ll eat my shoe.”
“And pay me 100 bucks.”
“Yes, that too.”
I shook her hand.
“Deal.”
I went to Mark’s.
I even went a little further and wore the most scandalous thing in my wardrobe. Spaghetti strapped, thigh length, skimpy black dress, if you’d even call it that, clung to my hourglass body like a long lost friend. Ruby studs and a matching necklace only added to my look. Of course, as any girl looking for a good time, I wore 3 inch heels that hurt like a bitch. I put so much makeup on my face that my guise didn’t even look remotely familiar.
“What to drink?” asked the bartender, wiping champagne flutes.
“Surprise me.” I grinned.
He smiled back “As you wish.” He got working, mixing his voodoo drink.
I glanced around the place. It was fairly quiet, for a club at least.
Some old men smoking pipes in the back.
A girl and her girlfriends sipping margaritas at the bar.
“Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday dear Mia, Happy birthday to you!”
The girls clapped and the girl, who I assumed was Mia, took a sip of the drink. Immediately after, she coughed hysterically.
Amused, I presumed she had just gotten to legal drinking age and so she was living it up with her girlfriends.
Not a bad way to live, I thought, watching them a while.
The bartender came back with the surprise drink.
“Mad Hatter.” he said.
I stared at it. I was a pretty turquoise colour, and the edges were rimmed with pink.
I took a sip.
The flavour hit my tongue instantly. Definitely lime, along with something that tasted like melted jolly ranchers, vodka and something I couldn’t quite place.
Just as I took another sip, a large group came in. All of them were young men. Very handsome young men. I decided to pay them no mind.
At least for the moment.
As I continued taking sips, I felt one of the boys’ eyes on me. I shoved away the flirty impulse of turning, and winking at him and instead stared out at the town, which was getting darker by the minute.
Minutes ticked by, and more people came in.
The sound of chatter was starting to irritate me.
I stood up, and walked straight to the jukebox.
Once the music hit my ears, a sudden relief washed over me. I finished off the my drink and requested another one, a bit stronger this time. The bartender’s eyes raised, but he said nothing as he went to work on another one.
Once I got it, I threw back half of it. I was started to feel extremely relaxed and a bit woozy.
Normally, I’m a fairly mellow girl and don’t really care to be the center of attention.
Oh, but tonight was different. I was the star of the show and every boy in the room wanted me.
But no fucking way would any of them get me.
I swayed and danced to the music.
I was the only one at first, but I didn’t give a fuck. Soon enough, birthday girl and her groupies joined me. Everyone started catching on, pushed back their chairs, and got lost in the music.
I ordered one “Mad Hatter” after another, letting the voodoo juices work their way into my system.
I was completely and utterly roaring drunk.
My arms and hips moved perfectly in sync to the rhythm. One boy after another tried making moves on me, wrapping their arms around my waist and stealing kisses. I’d let them for a while, but then I’d push them away, remaining the Untouchable.
But then, there was the boy.
That one damned boy.
Who ruined everything.
I parted the crowd like the red sea as I went to request another drink.
“You’re quite the dancer.”
I turned to the source of the words.
I smirked “I know. I don’t think I’ve had a chance with you yet. Wanna try?”
He smirked.
“No thank you. I try to stay away from man eaters.”
I scowled at the remark “Who says smartass? I’m just trying to have a good time.”
His eyes darkened.
“I’ll show you a good time.”
I raised an eyebrow as I sipped another most likely drug-filled drink.
“Wanna bet? I doubt you’d last 5 seconds with me, pretty boy.”
“The name’s John.”
“Whatever. Don’t really care. So, what d’you say? Deal, or are you too chicken?”
He rose his hand up.
“Deal.”
I rose mine to shake, but he grabbed it and kissed it.
Like, really kissed it.
My heart went into my throat.
“You’re good.” I admitted.
He raised his eyes to me. “Oh, you have no idea who you’re dealing with.”
There was a gleam in his eyes which sent chills down my spine.
He pulled me off to the side and we started dancing. It was fairly normal, hands on my waist, mine around his neck.
Soon however, he pulled me closer and closer to him. He leaned toward me and for a moment, I thought he was going to kiss me. But instead he whispered in my ear.
“Tonight baby, you’re mine. And I’m gonna fuck you until you can’t walk.”
My body radiated with heat, my face flushed red. Nobody had said something so forward and confident to me, ever.
“What makes you think I want you to fuck me?”
He grinned wolfishly at me “This.”
This time he leaned in for the kiss.
And oh boy, what a kiss it was.
Not any little peck in high school could have prepared me for this. Who knew someones tongue could be so magical?
He mapped out my entire mouth before he let me breathe again.
He was a hot mess, hair tousled, lips big and pink, and his eyes, full of desire.
His hands lightly went up and down my figure.
“You’re sexy as fuck.”
I blushed slightly. Biting my lip, I looked at the ground. My Shy was rearing it’s head back, coming to haunt me, dammit. What happened to Miss Confident?”
He tilted my head up to face him.
He licked his lips hungrily staring into my eyes and looking deep into my soul.
“Let’s get outta here.”
He grabbed my hand, and lead us out of Mark’s.
Some of the other boys I had seen him with earlier were smoking outside.
They turned and grinned at him.
“Ey, John! What ya up to?”
“None of your bloody business, Paul.”
They all looked at me and some of them oohed.
“Have fun Johnny!”
“Oh, fuck off Ringo.” John snapped.
He opened the car door for me and we were off.
I couldn’t believe this was happening.
Today, I was supposed to prove that I didn’t need anybody by getting drunk and breaking all the boys’ hearts.
Now, I was in a car, bound to lose the very thing I promised I’d never do, in a manner of minutes.
Damn you, John,
We entered a fairly decent looking flat.
“Let me take your coat.”
I shrugged off my mink and walked further into the place.
“Well, welcome to my humble abode.”
It was then that I realized how drunk I was.
The room was spinning.
“I think... I should sit down.” I slumped onto the couch.
“Right. Where were we? Ah, yes.”
He turned on me.
He crawled on top of me. I felt the warmth of his breath on my skin, and the heat from the leather sofa underneath me.
He traced my lips.
“I believe I never caught your name. Care to oblige me with it?”
“(y/n).”
He smiled. “Unique. Very pretty. Like you.”
He leaned in once more.
“Now as much as I like this dress, I think it would look much better on the floor.”
I unbuttoned a few buttons on his shirt.
“Whatever you say, handsome.”
He caught my lips once again for a searing kiss.
“I’m going to fuck you now.” he growled.
I smiled goofily, my eyes a bit glazed.
“Sounds good to me.”
~~~
“You owe me 100 dollars, I believe.” Lisa chirped brightly.
I groaned “Shut up, would ya? My head’s killing me.”
She smirked “I won’t stop till you say you lost.”
“Fine, you won. Now shut the fuck up and leave me alone.”
She grinned like a cat who got the cream. Passing me a coffee cup she said, “He seemed very handsome. What was his name?”
“John.” I winced.
“(y/n), you’re human. We all need to give in to our desires sometimes. I’m glad you finally came to your senses.”
“Yeah, yeah...sure, whatever.” I grumbled.
Deep down, I was glad she was right.
I should do it again sometime.

The Assistant (Paul McCartney x reader) Pt. 3
Words: 1.5k
Warnings: none
A/N: this chapter is so boring and more of a filler. I am so stuck on it and can’t figure out how to get passed this fucking thing. I mean, I wrote chapters that take place after this one that are like three times the size of this one so like- im making up for this promise!!!!
September 1968
You were stocking up the snack table, when the studio door opened with a pop. Feet plundered down the steps of the recording room and your focus turned to the noise. Your eyes met the sight of Paul; seemingly lively today, a bounce added to his step.
“Morning darling.” He spoke, his voice giving you chills.
“Good morning Paul.” You spoke. His eyes sparkled when your gazes met, and his grin grew slightly.
“How’re you?” He asked while he grabbed a carton of cigarettes from his shirt pocket.
“Tired. But who isn’t these days?” You spoke, turning back around. You mindlessly picked up some candies and started to arrange them. Paul lit a match and puffed the cigarette, resulting in trails of smoke billowing around you.
“You really shouldn’t smoke those first thing in the morning” You joked, turning back around. Paul inhaled as if to speak, but the door opening again startled the two of you. John walked down the steps, this time without Yoko.
“Morning. (Y/N) I need you.” John spoke, his voice calm. You nodded and quietly excused yourself from Paul, walking over to the long-haired man. He escorted you out the recording booth and into a back office of the studio.
“What’s this about?” You asked quietly, sitting into the desk chair.
“I need you to schedule some events for Yoko ‘n I” He spoke, pulling out his notebook. You let out a breath you’d been holding, grabbing a notepad and pen nearby.
“Of course,” You mumbled, “What’re the dates?”
John told you the dates and times, with the buildings and rooms that needed to be rented as well. Afterwards, you gazed at his face while he wrote a few things down on his notebook. He sported a t-shirt today, with some tight flared jeans. His round glasses had slid down his nose, his eyes were slightly bloodshot, and his hair was greasy.
“How’re you today, love?” You asked him softly. He gently placed the pencil down he had in his grasp, and looked back at you.
“M’ alright.” The man responded. It was rare John shared his feelings with you. Now a days he mainly keeps to himself… and Yoko.
“What’s on your mind?” You asked him. John sighed, and looked down at his lap.
“C’mon John love, speak to me.” You urged, scooting the desk chair closer to the chair he sat in. The man fidgeted with the pencil in his lap and then looked up to meet your eyesight. What was wrong with John?
“I’m fine, love.” He spoke, standing up and exiting the small office with haste. You sighed and slumped your shoulders.
-----------------
Later in the day the boys were scheduled for a press interview; mainly to keep appearances up. Klein was worried that the rumors of the band splitting were getting taken too seriously, thus a public appearance was expected. It’s taking place right outside of Apple Corps. with a stand set up on the sidewalk and microphones fixed to it. There was enough space along the sidewalk for the news companies to sit but, for more room, the street was going to be blocked off as well. The news as well as fans and spectators had started to fill in the sidewalk and street. Police kept the civilians separate so only legitimate press companies could ask questions. You were inside with the boys while the team took care of setting up the sidewalk. Mr. Klein was here as well, though he was mainly dealing with the crew.
“Alright, about,” You paused to look at your watch, “Three minutes til we need you out there.” You then glanced up and locked eyes with each of the boys. You met George’s first, he had a gentle gleam across his face. Followed by Ringo, who cheekily smiled. John was next, and it was a straight faced glance. Paul was last, he had a subtle beam about him. They were actually quite pleasant today; George and Ringo came in quite splendid moods, cheering up Paul and John with their humor. You began to usher them towards the entrance of Apple Corps, pushing past random crew members along the way.
Once outside the building, screams erupted from the spectators and fans. George and Paul politely waved while Ringo threw up peace signs. John, however, didn’t remove his hands from his pockets. They stood next to the other behind the large podium while people finished getting ready; Ringo and George lit cigarettes after settling in. You and Mr. Klein stood next to the doors and to the right of the boys while security personnel were on the left. The press were already taking photos, sending bright flashes to temporarily blind anyone who faced the crowd. As everybody settled in, Mr. Klein walked to the podium, pushed past the boys, and grabbed a microphone.
“Ladies and Gentlemen! Thank you for joining us today. We’ve got about twenty minutes with the boys here, so keep your statements quick and to the point. Alright, take it away; questions?” The press erupted, standing up and yelling. Klein pointed to a petite woman in the front row holding a notepad and pen.
“Ringo, Do you have any political affiliations at all?” She yelled over the murmuring street crowd. Ringo leaned towards the microphone, but John cut him off.
“No, he doesn’t even smoke.”
“I don’t even smoke,.” Ringo replied with a cheeky smile as he took a drag. The crowd burst into action again, hoping to be picked by Klein. He pointed to a man near the back.
“John, there’s a rumor in the Beatles paper that you might be leaving the group?” He yelled, holding a camera and a tape recorder.
“Rubbish, I’m contracted. I’ve been tryna get out for years.” John responded, his tone complimenting the dry sense of humor. You stood there looking at the vast amounts of people. Many of them were women, ranging from all sorts of ages. Men were scattered throughout the group as well. Some were just passing by, probably on their way to their jobs, others would stop and stare as if The Beatles were a foreign concept.
You’d zoned out and missed a few questions but didn’t realize until Klein’s voice drew you back in. He’d picked another reporter who eagerly bounced waiting for the crowd to quiet.
“Mr. McCartney, can you explain as to why you were at an intimate breakfast date with miss (Y/L/N) on Saturday?” The reporter asked. Your eyes shot open and over to Paul who remained calm and didn’t even turn his attention to you.
“We were discussing business.” He answered seamlessly, lighting up a cigarette. The crowd burst into action again, but you merely zoned out. Somehow, over the cries of civilians and yells from reporters your brain went quiet.
-----
“What the hell was that?” Klein questioned, anger laced his tone. After the press conference, the boys went back to working while Klein called you into his office. He paced the small room hands behind his back while you sat across from him.
“Was what, sir?” You asked in quiet tone. You knew exactly what he was talking about but didn’t want to admit it yet.
“You and Paul?” He answered, voice still heavy.
“We had breakfast, talked schedules, nothing more.” You responded, fiddling with your hands. The man shook his head and sat in his desk chair; you could see the strain on his face. The room was so quiet the boys could be heard yelling down the hall about one thing or another.
“Just, stay away from Paul.” Klein spoke after a few moments. Your chest felt tight with every word. “He’s always been a trouble maker.” Venom truly laced his tone. You knew Klein and Paul had never gotten along, but now it was almost as though Klein was controlling the bass players relationships now.
“Yes Sir.” Your gaze shifting to gather your things. You didn’t even bother to look at the man before you swiftly exited his office. The door closed behind you, and you sighed as tears burning your eyes.
You’d managed to blink away the tears with a few deep breaths before walking to the small communal kitchen. Thoughts raced your mind as you made a cup of tea to calm your nerves. Could Mr. Klein even control you in that way? He has no say over your personal life, what if Paul involved your personal life? You’d gotten this job as an advancement in your career, but was it worth it? As of right now it didn’t feel that way. Sure, it’s in your contract that you can’t date any of the boys, but it didn’t say you couldn’t flirt with them… or one specifically. It was frustrating.
Once you finished heating up some water, you grabbed a teabag and headed back to the recording booth. The boys laughing about something made you smile a little as you entered the room. John and George were talking about one of George’s songs while Paul played a little tune on the Piano and Ringo lit up a cigarette. Ringo’s attention turned to you and he let out a smile and wave as you walked down the steps. You returned the grin and sat in a small armchair.
They continued to play, sometimes doing separate things until it was time to run through a song. You kept your distance from Paul except for if he needed assistant help. Though Klein keeping a watchful eye from the sound booth was making it hard to so much as give the bass player a glance.

June 6, 2018 Mix
Hey everyone,I haven't been as timely with the mixes as usual because it's summer and there's way more distraction, but I love finding old music and making it new again and I really feel that this week with some of the selections.
Spotify Playlist 1. Where Did Your Truth Go? by Girl Skin - Listen carefully especially in the beginning to the laughing conversation, the city sounds etc, its such an interesting layering behind the simple guitar and piano. The words are very philosophy based around conformity in society and wearing a mask to fit in. 2. Dancing In The Moonlight (It's Caught Me In Its Spotlight) by Thin Lizzy - A classic that I will always sing and dance to, but I listened to this because I first heard the Alt-J slowed down version (featured on a previous Music Mix) and wanted to hear the original which is amazing in its own right. 3. Africa by Weezer - I was so excited when I saw that Weezer took on this icon of a song originally done by artist 'Toto' and I was definitely impressed by their garage rock take of it, although some portions still remained true to its 80s original which I loved as well. 4. Shake Your Lonely by Twin Peaks - When they sang in beautiful harmony "I know I'll be the only girl to shake your lonely heart" well, I really felt that on a relatable level. The chilled out indie folk vibes I get from this is so beach and summer feels, love the horns featured too. 5. Cigarette by Marika Hackman - I felt like I was listening to this in a small dimly lit bar with Marika sitting on a stool with this song. It just gives you those feelings and I love the minor chord progressions that go on throughout, especially the line "lit a cigarette and gave it a kiss" it's just very perfect. 6. Night And Day by Fred Astaire - The story behind my discovery of this song is me listening to Beatles Sirius XM in the car and hearing Ringo Starr do his version of this classic and then them playing Astaire's croony lulling version right after. And obviously I fell in love with the jazzy vintage vibes, especially the trumpet. 7. I Won't Hurt You by The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band - I treat this song as a spoken poem because it's so beautiful that I think it needs to be read while being listened to simultaneously. It's essentially about the speaker wanting someone to appreciate and love them because they feel dissociated from the world. Also there's the sound of a heartbeat throughout the entire song which is amazing. 8. One Day Like This by Elbow - Shout out to my girl Devlin for showing me this brilliant gem that I had never heard of before the other day! I love this one, it takes you through a relationship going through tumultuous times but one party wanting to just forget about it and move on to a better time. But the truth is that life isn't like this, all the speaker wants is just one beautiful day to appreciate love. 9. Thirteen Sad Farewells by Stu Larsen - I've definitely been getting back into the folk genre recently, I think that the lyrics here are so story-like, so they're very easy to follow, but they definitely make you think as well. I'm not sure what the significance behind 13 is, but perhaps alluding to the unluckiness of the number and his bad luck in relationships and that he has no more goodbyes after that. 10. Gold Dust Woman by Fleetwood Mac - I guess I'm putting some iconic songs on this mix, but icons deserve to be recognized every once in awhile too, not just obscure weird songs. Then again, this song is pretty edgy what with it's clear meaning of a woman who frequently does cocaine and how it affects her and her visions. The woman this song is about will never change her ways and it does note bode well for people to love her because they will become broken. 11. I Want To Break Free by Queen - Happy Pride Month! Had to include a song that celebrates people who quite literally need to break out of the typical and express who they really are. Mercury was one of the first male singers/icons to come out, especially for the time period in which Queen was performing, it was quite bold. This song you will sing along to whether you like it or not. 12. U + Ur Hand by P!nk - This. Song. It means everything to me and whenever I get nervous to go out to a party where I know people will be judging me or thinking that I'm there for them, I listen to this. P!nk knows what's up and the fact that she is leaving a man who has wronged her and treated her badly with his hand to soothe himself, makes me feel like I can do the same. 13. Make Out In My Car (Sufjan Version) by Moses Sumney - A super simple song that is sung by Sufjan? I'm not really surprised, but I am so in love with this little tune that should be in an independent movie. The sentiment that the speaker doesn't want to sleep with the love interest, but simply just kiss is SO romantic and slow going and sweet. 14. Beige by Yoke Lore - A song about wanting to see someone's bad parts, the realest part of a person, what's going on inside of them rather than what they portray to the world. That is a beautiful sentiment. Also this is an interesting music genre cross over because it begins as a folky song but then becomes kind of electro-folk? I love it, it's pretty original. 15. Ya Ya Ya by You Won't - People getting together over having shared issues with their parents? Sounds like it would make an interesting song, and it totally does in this one. This gave me serious Father John Misty vibes with the interesting chord choices and simple voice with cool words sprinkled in. This was released a couple years ago, but they're a seemingly unknown band so they deserve the hype. 16. Poem by U.S. Girls - You might think this was an 80s song if I didn't tell you otherwise. U.S. Girls are very individualistic, with their electro-indie-pop tunes and their obvious affection for poetry, which drew me into them, because I also am a huge poetry fan/poet myself. Kind of reminds me of some Imogen Heap songs so if you're into that, definitely listen to the rest of this album. 17. Jmy Attendais Pas by Clea Vincent - Another electro-pop song, except more fun because it's in French! I actually translated the lyric page so I could see exactly what the song was about and I highly recommend you do the same if you don't speak fluent French because the sentiments are so sweet in addition to it being such a fun song anyway. 18. Halloween Party by Soda Club - My friend Maeve's cousins' partner is the drummer in this saxophone driven dream pop band which is currently on a tour in which they are playing songs from their EP and also some other fun tunes! They are amazing live, but I specifically connected with this song and how the speaker repeats the phrase "who am I supposed to be?" to take it further than it just being about a costume on Halloween, but goes into the existential sense which I love. 19. Ruin Your Night by Sorcha Richardson - Everyone needs to have this in their feels/alternative/driving playlist because everything about it is the quintessential alternative song that belongs in your life. I love the message driven feeling to this song that the speaker is bad for the love interest and knows it, but will pursue the love anyway and ruin things. 20. All These Things That I Have Done by The Killers - This is in no way an underrated song and is generally hyped up enough, but I feel like I got away from it for awhile and was focused on a lot of other songs by The Killers and kind of forgot about this one. The buildup of this song is everything, like the fact that it starts with one sound and becomes a whole chorus of people singing by the bridge part of the song. Amazing. Iconic. Hope you enjoyed this week's mix! I'll probably have 1-2 more mixes out before I embark on my journey to France for my poetry course! Stay tuned in and rock on Xoxo,
Julia

GlumReviews #6
You ever hear those one hit wonder bands and wonder to yourself if they ever had anymore good songs hiding in that album that made them big? I do. In fact, it haunts me nightly and I blame it directly on dissolving at least 3 of my relationships. But after diving kinda deep in the infant stages of goth and emo rock, I decided to take a hard left turn into something a bit lighter. While the overarching theme of pop is present in alot of the bands I’ve reviewed so far, I’d like to discuss a relic of pop music that may be a little unappreciated in terms of the importance of bands you’ve (probably) never thought twice about. The Cardigans.
After the death of Kurt Cobain, and inherently grunge, Americas music industry goes through what I essentially call it’s identity crisis, and if you don’t believe me just go look at what charted from ‘96, the year The Cardigans released their 3rd studio album:
As the Macarena dominated the states, artists remained hard at work to pump out the next big music movement and you could really follow it all from the 90′s. of Ska, Swing music, spanish hits, techno, nu metal. It was a mad dash to be the next trendsetter. And the entire country was on the receiving end of the horrid trash that the 90s pumped out post grunge-era.
And then, there’s The Cardigans. A swedish indie-rock band that received acclaimed success, winning several awards for their Disco-Pop romance anthem: “Lovefool”. This led me to explore a question I had always asked myself, is a one hit wonder’s album worth checking out? And in this case I’d say yes, and allow me the pre-emptive correction of saying The Cardigans are not a one hit wonder. While their biggest song to this day will be “Lovefool” they have had some chart ranking songs but none ever matched the success of the song that broke them through on their 3rd album. Which is the album I’ll be reviewing today.
1. Your New Cuckoo
Beginning our journey is a Nu-Disco Pop jam that just leaves you wondering what you’re in store for. By now you know my affinity for nice, bassy songs and this delivers, with some very smooth guitarwork to boot. At this point I begin to wonder who calls the shots in determining the hits because the fact that the general public doesn’t know this song is pretty criminal. Definitely give this one a listen.
2. Been It
Along with amazing bass lines, I also enjoy whenever a track transitions perfectly into the next and this is accomplished perfectly here. With a bit of a harder edge, juxtaposed with lead singer Nina Persson’s soft vocals as she tells a tale of devoted love, playing the roles of everyone in someone’s life and coming at that crossroads where you realize you can definitely do better than what you currently got. Driving guitar and drums, its a great pop-rock song that opens doors for this familiar pop-rock in the 90′s.
3. Heartbreaker
This is a sultry, hypnotizing song that I really love, the bass line, the percussion, Persson’s voice is breathy and seducing, as she lazily sings about the fleeting passions of her heart. Produced with lush instrumentation and attention to detail. This is just all around a beautiful song that I had to listen to a couple of times because it really is an interesting choice of musical direction. The Cardigans are not a one trick pony as this album progresses, they’ve displayed strong roots with pop and guitar led indie rock, and this song just dives into the shallows of psychedelic rock, all respect to where it’s due but I can’t help but get strong Nancy Sinatra vibes from this song. From as it begins a light pop song, bends with some doom metal guitar vamping to fadeout, a really great song worth checking out
4. Happy Meal II
My first remarks are really about the drums that just stink of Ringo Starr. Which isn’t a bad thing. Playing on this psychedelic rock sound they lean into, this is their bubblegum pop entry into the album and I gotta say I’m not annoyed at anything here. A catchy hook, and Nina Persson’s voice again is just this sugar frosted cherry on top of this beautiful arrangement of percussion and guitar. This album keeps you interested as it twists and turns through it’s genres.
5. Never Recover
I get more Nancy Sinatra vibes here. Like a pop Bossa Nova, the drummer has times where he really shines and brings this amazing energy to these basic song structures, really makes even the most simplest of songs easy to enjoy. Nina’s lyrics don’t take themselves too seriously and come off sincere as she questions her own actions in the face of love. Lyrically competent between being the victim and also realizing one’s faults and the role that plays in the loneliness.
6. Step on Me
A tongue in cheek ballad that leans more into a rock genre but providing a genre-bending twist as only I’ve come to expect from the band by now. Playful and carefree, it’s a nice showcase of guitar work and Persson’s innocent harmless voice. Laying groundwork for alot of indie music of the 2000′s in my personal opinions, flip flopping between hard pop-rock and indie slow jam, its a testament to their unique use of every genre they touch.
7. Lovefool
I mean, we all know this song I’m sure or at least heard it once. Within the context of the album itself, this song gets lost to me, obviously strong enough to launch their career into stardom. It seems to lack a certain quality that I can’t quite pinpoint. Perhaps owing to the fact I’ve heard this song about a hundred times more than the rest of the album. It’s not a bad song, but to me, personally boring as the rest of the album is an absolute treat to the ears, especially if pop music is a guilty pleasure thing for you. Listen at your own discretion. But may I invite you to listen to the absolutely bitchin’ guitar portion that kicks in at 1:01. Just amazing.
8. Losers
Reminiscent of track 3 with its intro, we are led into another pop-rock standard experience. Once again a beautifully done transition from the previous track. Probably the most bleak song of the album as it begins with the lyrics “Close your eyes, look at all these losers/ You find them everywhere, they’re fucked up and annoying”. A song you could definitely see playing at the end portion of a CW show where the final thoughtful message of the episode is being narrated.
9. Iron Man
Black Sabbath cover. And easily one of the best covers of any song I have ever heard. EVER. And I mean it. A band from Sweden, arguably a birthplace for cold dark demonic harmonics and face paint-clad goth bands. Have absolutely every right to kickass this much. In their way of course. Heavy Metal takes a backseat as they turn this into a trippy deconstructed journey of the classic heavy metal anthem. Smooth and chill, it’s just an amazing cover. These guys made “Lovefool” for fuck’s sake, and they’re covering Ozzy better than most metal bands could ever hope to. Please listen to this song.
10. Great Divide
Back to the lush fields of bubblegum sugary sweetness, more symphony led than most of the songs on the album, comes off as a little broadway tune, largely forgettable in the context of the record. So many good songs in this album and I personally feel this didn’t meet the standards of the rest of the album. Lyrically strong, I don’t think it takes away from the album if it was skipped.
11. Choke
The send off track is a nice somber closer, reiterating their use of nu-disco, psychedelic sounds, an obvious love for that 60′s retro-rock. This song implements use of several horned instruments, as well as some flute that can be heard prominently in a few tracks. It’d be really hard to pin down exactly what genre this is as it wavers between alot of genres, as could be said for alot of their songs as they’re able to successfully blend these elements of soul, funk, disco and pop and become their own specific sound. (fans of Tame Impala may find something familiar in the nostalgic guitar and groovy basslines)
I can’t say this album is underrated because it scores fairly decently across the board with some prominent music reviewers, so I’ll say this is definitely an album everybody should check out. I’ll go out on a limb and say that in an era or chaotic post grunge, this is one band that kinda kept this pure Pop essence strongly in its foundation. Didn’t go the route of synthesizers and drum machines, but instead utilized a full band to make some of the most unique music you will ever please your ears.
Without The Cardigans, I don’t think you get a direct line to later acts like Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Hilary Duff and Miley Cyrus respectively. It’s pop without being too sugary sweet, and it utilizes every single instrument perfectly, every song feels perfectly engineered to hit that sweet spot and from my non-stop gushing I guess it’ll come as no surprise if I rate it.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
I’ll admit, the album starts strong and burns out towards the end for my taste, only kept alive by the Black Sabbath cover, if you’re curious at all about this album, I highly recommend that song the most and checking out the album at least once.

Throwback Thursday-My First Def Leppard Show
Sooooo I found this today... it’s kinda cringe but whatever. Back in 2003 I saw Def Leppard for the first time (I was 13 at the time). As you can see I was always long winded but my writing is I hope greatly improved lol. It was my 3rd concert in general. In honor of Joe’s birthday here we go...
Fan Review - By Kristin
This show was completely awesome. Malvin came out and introduced Ricky, and he did about 5 or 6 songs. Viv came out and sang and played "Three Sides to Every Story" (I think that was the name) with him.
They started to play their intro music (We will Rock You, ect) so you knew the Lepps would hit the stage soon. So you hear the drums going, the crowd goes wild and stands up on their feet. Then the curtain falls down and you see them all come out... I'm so close to the stage I can see Sav and Viv come up from the side and walk on. They sat there for a minute just watching the crowd. Then they went into 'Let It Go'. It was awesome me and the 3 girls sitting next to me were all singing. Something was wrong with Joe's mike because the first 4 songs you couldn't hear that well. Then they go into 'Another Hit And Run' which I loved. Joe came over to our side and told us to scream so we did...lol. After this Joe said "Philadelphia how you doing tonight..." Then you hear the opening chords to 'High N Dry' I was so excited... they sounded great during this song I couldn't believe it! I was jumping up and down pumping my fist in the air for this one.
Next I think they went into 'Switch 625' Joe went off stage to get a different mike because, like I said something must have been wrong with the other one. Sav also stood up by the drums and did a little bass solo. Next I think they went into 'Heartbreak' the crowd went insane and the lighters flared. The lights were purple it gave a really cool feeling to the song. Then Joe said "That was some from the High N Dry album we're gonna give you some Pyromania now!" And 'Foolin' start up... once again the lighters went up and we were all signing along. After this they went into 'Make Love Like A Man' which I know they've been putting Rock Rock in place for this song so I was excited when this came on I sang every word, and the band ran around the stage it was awesome! Then they did Hysteria'
Joe said "We're gonna keep it down for a few minutes" and he was talking and someone threw an American flag up on stage past him... he went and picked it up and said "Interesting" and the crowd of course went insane when he held it up. Joe put it in his mike stand and said "courtesy of Steven Tyler". And he said "This is dedicated to the American and British troops serving our country so please sit down... This is a song called 'Long Long Way To Go.' Then they all went to get acoustic guitars. Joe said "We're gonna keep it slow and we're gonna have a little fun now, when we get to the chorus I want you to sing along with us and blow the fucking roof of this place." Then he came around and we screamed... and he said "Is that all you can do" and we screamed louder. Then he said "We aren't in Erie are we?? Because you all sound like Erie did last night" and the crowd booed the comment, and Joe said "Well you can either be better or fucking worse then them, COME ON PHILLY!!!!" We screamed so loud and Joe said "Ok you guys are a lot better" Then he said "this is a song that was on Retro Active, and was featured on the "Last Action Hero" soundtrack. This is 'Two Steps Behind.'
Then you heard 'Women', 'Animal', 'Rocket', 'Now', 'Four Letter Word', 'Photograph' Joe sounded great singing this song! Then they played 'Armageddon It' and we all sang along and once again pumped our fists in the air. Then of course came 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' this was so a great live song I don't care who you are... you were standing! After that song was over Viv, changed his guitar, and Sav changed his bass to the Union Jack one. Then Joe said "OK everyone knows drummers are usually the quite ones in bands, Ringo from the Beatles, someone else... and Rick. But unfortunatly Rick doesn't have the advantage of a big fucking mouth and a microphone in front of him." "But Rick is going to introduce this next song..." and then you hear the famous... Gounter Gleiblin Gloutin Globin. It was 'Rock Of Ages' baby! The crowd all stood up and sang the chours with the band! The Joe said "Thank you all goodnight!!!!!!" Sav gave his pick to a lucky girl in the audience, and Phil did the same on his side.
Then they came back out and Joe said something like "Do you guys ever get tired" and of course we don't...lol. Then they played 'Love Bites', the lighters were once again flared, and we all sang with the band. Then the next song Joe said "I got a question for you Philly.... Do you wanna get rocked!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG YES!!!!!!!! It was Lets Get Rocked, they let the crowd sing the chorus without the band singing back up and it was awesome I got chills!!!!!! When they were all done the bowed and Sav threw about 20 picks into the audience... I was like come up here and give one to me...lol But this was an awesome show I loved it... none of the band members could stay still the entire night!!!!!!! Very VERY energetic!!!!!!!!!!! And I'm not imagining or anything but I swear Joe, and Sav saw me because I forget what song it was during but Joe came to our side and I was jumping up and down and pumping my fist in the air with the metal sign in my hands and Joe waved and did the same thing. Then Sav came over and I was once again jumping up and down and pumping my fist in the air... he pointed to my section what it looked like to be very close to me, and he smiled waved. and pumped his fist in the air. It was the one of the best shows I've seen I had a blast!!!.
