Don’t hate me but I really believe the world would be a better place if pigeons were the ubiquitous avian pet instead of parrots 👀

#exactly. I own a few parrots and I love them DEARLY but I would never buy another one from a breeder #they are a lot of work (not only the cleaning and the diet but they’re also REALLY smart and take a lot to keep entertained)#if I ever got another bird I would definitely go to my local rescue because the breeding business is full of shady people and mistreated #birds (I work for a parrot company right now so I see a lot of breeders and . ah so many of them are horrible and greedy)#it breaks my heart to see how many people buy budgies and cockatiels especially and then abandon them :( just today I #was helping doing a parrot education thing and someone there wanted us to look at her budgie because she ‘looked scraggly’#so we pick up the bird and put her on her back. and she is SO think her keel bone sticks out a mile and there is dried poop #all surrounding her vent :( we cleaned her up some but it breaks my heart this is a common occurrence because people don’t do #the proper research before getting a bird.#I’ve previously seen people return birds who really love their owner because they got bored. and I work with a lot of rescue parrots as wel #well*#one bird I work with was caught in the wild in the 80s maybe? (Birds are no longer caught in the wild) and you can tell how she misses it #ugh I also live in a hawk heavy area #so parrots can’t even fly on a harness around here. you have to get an aviary or clip their wings which is awful. flighted birds should fly #and obviously no one opts for an aviary because they spend the bare minimum on a pet #it’s just so sad. not sorry for the rant I have a lot of strong feelings on birds you can ask me for stories from my work anytime #tw animal cruelty #rb
