With that said, though, let us not forget that these past few months and these Olympics have been a political nightmare for Parisian and French people overall, and the inclusion of SO MUCH revolutionary imagery is nothing if not incredibly ironic from the French government. France has been in an insane political limbo since the European elections where president Macron dissolved the general assembly entirely unprompted, and put France at a very real risk of being led by the Far Right. Now that his party has lost the elections (3 whole times) he refuses to name the winning party’s Prime Minister and is holding onto power for dear life… Ironic! If by watching all those scenes glorifying the French Revolution & revolutionary icons (like Louise Michel, or Les Misérables) or That One Bisexual Throuple™️ you thought for a second that France is led by a progressive party, it isn’t. And these olympics have only come at the expense of working class and lower income people, homeless people, people of colour, immigrants and students from the start.
