It wasn't until about 1900 that the term came to refer to the wholesome drinks made by mixing milk and syrups with ice cream. Many of the diners in 1940’s and 50’s America featured thick shakes as one of their staple offerings. A salesman named Ray Kroc bought the exclusive rights to the 1930’s era Multimixer milk shake maker. Creating an automated machine which he put to good use expanding his chain of McDonalds restaurants. Rather than a machine, we use a professional grade bar blender. With ice cream and our other ingredients mixed just before being served for maximum freshness. Allegedly shakes got their name from being served in bars. If the customer enjoyed the shake he would shake hands with the bartender. If he didn't, the bartender didn't get a tip. The world's largest shake was made in 2000 by Ira Freehof. At 6000 gallons it was equivalent to 50,000 normal shakes. June 20th is national Vanilla Milk Shake Day (in the states of course). September 12th chocolate shake day. Have you ever shared a shower or bath with someone as an adult? I did it a couple of times with a past girlfriend, but I’m honestly not a fan of it unless I’m somewhere with a serious lack of bathrooms and it’s the only choice available. I like my space when I get myself all cleaned up lol.
What kind of pizza toppings do you like? Different kinds of cheeses do it for me, really. If I absolutely have to pick toppings, I do like bacon, bell peppers, barbecue chicken, or onions on my pizza.
When did you first take a shot of alcohol? I have no idea, actually. Maybe 20? 21? I never noted the year down. I don’t even know the first shot I ever took...if I had to guess, it was probably tequila.
Did you babysit for money when you were in middle school? No. I babysat because I was the eldest daughter and granddaughter in an Asian household, haha.
Who is your favorite band? How long have they been? Paramore; 17 years, have loved them for 14.
Has the last person you kissed ever been to your house? Many times. She used to be a welcome guest.
Have you ever been to a spa? I don’t think I’ve ever entered one, no. There’s been no reason to in the past.
When talking on the phone, do you place it against your left or right ear? Right. I don’t remember ever placing it on my left, come to think of it.
What’s your favourite Lunchables meal? Idk, I’ve never had them. American thing, I’m guessing.
Do you like Bob Marley? I don’t hold an opinion on him; I’ve never tried listening to his music.
Have you ever eaten at Golden Corral? Nope, I don’t know what that is, either.
Do you sit and eat dinner at the same table with your family? Yes, we have dinner together every night. We’ve been doing it since the start of the pandemic; and, with that, since my dad has had to stay at home since he can’t report to work anyway considering the situation. I imagine we’d be back to eating separately once he can report back to his job.
Are you listening to any music right now? If so, what are you listening to? Yeah, I’m listening to Map of the Soul: 7 and UGH! just started playing. This is such a good FUCKING album it’s absolutely insane how good it is. Whatever spirit possessed BTS throughout 2019 to produce an album this unbelievable wasn’t playing.
Who was the last person to make you genuinely smile? Hobi, since I rewatched the Run BTS segment where he called Conan O’Brien ‘Curtain.’
Is there something you want to say to someone but can’t/won’t? No.
Do you like men who have a sensitive side? I think it’s nice when anyone has a sensitive side and isn’t ashamed to be in touch and expressive with their emotions. Doesn’t have to apply to just guys.
Have you ever tried to get someone into a certain band/artist? I don’t do that with any of my interests because I don’t want to potentially irritate or bore someone, or to potentially face the disappointment I’d feel when they don’t end up being enthusiastic about what I’m into. I’m totally okay with my interests just being My Thing, no need to drag other people into them.
Have you ever carved you and someone else’s initials into a tree? Nopes.
Do you like Dairy Queen? Just some items, like their Oreo Frappe or whatever it’s called. I’m not a big fan of ice cream cakes and I’ve never really explored their Blizzards.
Is there anyone you know with an amazing personal success story? Andi.
Is there a song in a different language that you can sing? Well Filipino is my first language rather than English, so yes.
How do you feel about bands that use pyrotechnics in live concerts? I’ve never experienced this other than One Direction using fireworks at the end of their concert here (and they weren’t launched from the stage either, but somewhere backstage), so I don’t really know what to feel about this other than they should just make sure they’re following safety protocols and standards to avoid mishaps.
Ever fallen down a hole? I don’t think so.
Do you like bananas? Not so much, but I don’t passionately hate it as much as I do other fruits. I do like some dishes that incorporate banana, like banana bread and banoffee pie. Recently I discovered Korean banana milk and it ended up tasting pretty good!
How long do you normally spend in the shower? Not even 10 minutes, usually. I've never understood how people can take such long showers. < Yeah, pretty much on the same page. The only times I take a while is if I feel like shaving, but otherwise I shower quickly. Maybe around 4–7 minutes at most.
Have you ever been a featured member on any website? I don’t think that ever happened, at least when having featured members was still a thing.
Have you ever had any weird pets? Nope.
Are you currently talking to/texting/instant messaging anyone? I am not. Though I know I have unread messages from Andi...I just don’t feel like checking them right now.
Have you ever experienced insomnia? Only when I was a teenager. It’s been a while since I’ve faced any trouble in trying to fall asleep.
Do you like egg nog? I’ve never had a chance to try it but it sounds delicious, and I would definitely take a sip the first opportunity I get.
Would you ever wear Converse with a prom/formal dress? I don’t see why I would have to but if it’s just for funsies, it sounds pretty harmless so yeah, I would.
Do you prefer hot chocolate with or without marshmallows? Withoooooooooout. I’ve never understood marshmallows.
How many different people of the opposite sex have you cried over? In a romantic sense, none. But I’ve cried for other reasons, like when I mourned over my grandpa and Nacho.
Would you rather be a surgeon or mortician? Surgeon, since there’s a tiny part in me that had always wanted to take up med school.
Would rather be a musician or a painter? Painter, if anything. I’m not creative by any means, but I feel like I’d enjoy a lot more freedom with painting.
Would you rather write your own book or make your own movie? [continued from last night] Write my own book I suppose, but I could only work with non-fiction. I’d embarass myself if I had to write something not based off of real life.
At home, do you have a trampoline? No. But this reminds me of when we’d go to Rita’s place to have meetings whenever we couldn’t hold them in school. She’s the richest one out of all of us, lives in a very old money village, big-ass house, big-ass kitchen, big-ass receiving areas (plural)...and they also have a nice trampoline in their big-ass yard. We always used to horse around in there as soon as we were done with our meetings.
When you are about to go to bed, do you put on some sort of noise? I used to put on a YouTube video that would entertain me enough to feel relaxed and eventually sleepy, but I haven’t done that in the last few weeks. These days I usually look for a fanfic to get absorbed in, then I read until my eyes start feeling heavy.
What is your favorite Christmas movie? Love Actually or It’s A Wonderful Life.
And what about your favorite Christmas song? It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas makes me feel festive and fuzzy.
What is your ultimate favorite stocking stuffer? My family doesn’t really keep up with this tradition. I remember how our grandparents would fix up stockings for us when we were much younger, but they were usually filled with candy.
After Halloween, do you sort out all of your candy into little piles? I never collected candy for Halloween.
When you listen to music with headphones, do you keep the volume low enough to hear surrounding noise faintly, or do you blast it? Depends. The rare times I’m working and do feel like putting headphones on, the volume has to be just decent enough so I can still focus. If I’m not doing anything else or at least doing something that doesn’t involve too much ~brain activity~, I like my music very loud.
What did you have for breakfast this morning? It doesn’t really count as breakfast but I’m currently finishing off the remaining two pieces of McNuggets I got last night. 10 pieces is apparently too many for my appetite, haha.
What’s the largest animal you’ve ever had as a pet? Cooper has probably been the biggest and heaviest so far.
Do you own any kind of helmet? We have a bike helmet here at home, but it’s not exclusively mine.
Out of everything currently in your refrigerator, what food or drink is your favorite? I don’t memorize the fridge so I can’t tell you my favorite food that’s currently in it; as for drink, I just stick to cold water.
What’s the worst injury you’ve ever had? Sprained ankle after I tripped at one of the parking lots in school.
Do you like the taste of cough syrup? I’ve never had it.
What is something you like to have conversations about? People with experiences vastly different from mine, because it lets me explore different perspectives. It’s why I always look forward to family reunions with one of my uncles - who’s a foreigner, from a very different country - since he’s able to share a lot of fun and reflective stories about his life and stuff he did in his youth, stuff I never got to experience and live through.
What all is in the trunk of your car? The trunk used to be my trash can lmao, back when I was still driving everyday. My mom has since cleared it out since the beginning of the pandemic; I believe only a laptop bag is sitting there now.
Do you ever put fruit on your cereal? No. I don’t even eat either.
Is your heat or air conditioning currently on? My electric fan is. I don’t turn on the aircon until the evening.
Have you ever fallen off of a horse? Nopes.
Which do you value more, your appearance or your intelligence? Both are important to me.
When was the last time you drove something other than a car or truck? I don’t remember. I’ve only ever driven cars.
Were your grandparents present when you were born? Neither set wasn’t in any of the photos from my birth, so I don’t think so...? My maternal grandparents definitely wouldn’t have been present, since my parents had been living in Manila then.
If you drink/smoke, how often do you do these things? I vape...pretty much all day. I’m doing it while taking this survey. As for drink, I would say 1-2 times a month. Usually after a particularly grueling shift.
What do you think of fast food? I love it. Unabashedly. I just don’t have them a lot because I don’t find it filling and the quality is obviously lower; but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like the way fast food tastes.
What website do you spend the most time on and why? Google Suite, if it counts. I work 5 days a week; it’s pretty much an extension of me at this point.
What’s the most amount of time you’ve spent online? Is this usual for you? All day. I’m always using the internet to do things. I used to be embarrassed of it, but these days I feel like having a connection is virtually an essential.
When it comes to travel, what kinds of places intrigue you most? Museums, historical sites, cultural sites, and spots where they show you how they do practices native to the place. I’ve always been about immersing myself in the cultures of the places I visit.
What is the farthest you’ve walked in one day and what made you do it? I remember having to walk for a very very very VERY long time when we were in Bali - my family wanted to explore more of the city - and the weather wasn’t cooperative at all, so I ended up feeling super cranky. I remember also walking around a lot in Shanghai, but that was a slightly better experience since the city was incredibly lively and there were a lot of things to see and stop at; not to mention the weather was also kinda pleasant. The cold was biting but I would always rather be too cold than walk around with sweat-soaked clothes.
What is something important that’s often on your mind lately? Our financial situation what with Covid affecting both my parents’ jobs. We get by enough for me not to worry too much, but I also hope my dad can get called back to his ship soon just so I can finally exhale with relief.
What about something unimportant, but you can’t stop thinking about it? My workplace recently introduced this workout challenge thingy for the month of May that we’re invited to join to encourage us to get fit and healthy. I get notifications whenever someone’s able to exercise for the day and it makes me feel super pressured hahahaha. Since I don’t wanna be known as a killjoy co-worker I know I’ll have to take part in it, which I will start on later.
Do you like oatmeal? If so, what kinds of things do you like in it? No. Back in elementary my grandma made me eat oatmeal every day for breakfast before heading to school, so I don’t ever want to have another bowl of it.
What was going on the last time you felt nostalgic? My family and I were having a conversation during dinner last night and for some reason it eventually veered towards mine and my sister’s experiences from our first school and how we managed to get up at 5 AM everyday, have classes from 7 AM–4 PM, then get home from anywhere between 5–6 PM for 14 years straight. How tf did we do that and never complain???
How much attention do you pay to the movements of the stars and planets, and do you believe they influence anything? None.
What is the most difficult or involved video game you’ve ever played? While I love watching playthroughs, I am not skilled at video games at all and in most video games I’ve played I never made it past the first mission, unless I was playing a Nintendo game that’s already marketed for kids in the first place lol.
Which accent do you find most sexy, alluring or appealing? There’s a certain British accent I find very pleasant to listen to, but since I know there are a lot of variations I’m just not sure which one it is. I guess an accurate point of reference would be Hugh Grant’s or Florence Pugh’s accent.
Which accent do you find most annoying, disturbing, or bothersome? None of them.
Can you cry on cue? Is it any kind of useful? Nope.
Does it take you a while to actually get jokes? Sometimes.
Can you wear socks to bed or does it annoy you? I don’t really like the feeling of socks, so no. I find them a bit itchy, and too tight.
Have you ever bleached your hair? Never done it before.
Do you like jelly beans? Erm, it would depend on the flavor, I guess. But they aren’t so much my snack of choice. The texture is a bit weird.
Do you have trouble sleeping when it’s storming? Not at all, I feel a lot cozier when it’s raining hard.
Who was the last person you know that graduated? (high school or college) Sofie posted her graduation photo not too long ago, so probably her.
Were you happy or sad when you found out your babysitter was coming? I never had a babysitter because I was the babysitter.
Did you have a boyfriend in kindergarten? No. I went to an all-girls school, so I didn’t even get to interact with a lot of boys until the middle of high school.
Did you ever read the Magic Treehouse series? Nope.
Who was your best friend in elementary school? Angela. I was also friends for a long time with a girl named Jaynie, with whom I actually started to reconnect ever since she found out I was now into BTS. I find it so cool; I don’t think I’ve talked to her since the 2nd grade, 15 years ago.
Did you ever watch The Land Before Time movies? I didn’t.
Did you collect anything when you were a kid? Stickers. I'd put them on my dresser everywhere to the point it was absolutely covered. < Literally this entire answer; I don’t have any clue how my overly neat mom managed to never spank me for destroying her closet. I also liked collecting Pokemon cards and pogs even though I never knew how to use them. It just felt nice having large stacks of them lol.
Did you get an allowance? Not until high school. My grandma (and eventually househelp, when we moved) fixed up packed lunches for me and my siblings. When my mom decided to stop having house helpers at home, that’s when she started giving us an allowance to buy recess and lunch ourselves.
Were you into American Girl dolls? I was never into dolls in general. Since my sister and I were the only girls at home, we were surrounded by toys marketed for boys and that’s what I enjoyed playing with more.
Were you friends with your childhood neighbors? We played with the neighborhood kids every afternoon but I wouldn’t call them friends. I was a very shy kid and I found them too rowdy for my liking, especially the boys.
What was your biggest fear when you were a kid? Flying cockroaches. It’s still one of them.
Did you ever play the "Reader Rabbit" computer games? I don’t think so.
Did your parents let you drink soda growing up? I’m pretty sure they would’ve allowed me to, but I just never liked the feeling of fizzy drinks so I never drank soda anyway.
What was your favorite kind of cake as a kid? I think I liked mocha sponge cakes growing up, but that has changed now.

Kadena Friendsgiving Ficlet
A/N: My first fanfic ever!!! I was procrastinating today, and heard ya’ll complaining about the lack of new fanfic, and thought “what a perf way to not do all the other things I need to do.” I know it’s still only October, I just love Thanksgiving. I welcome any and all constructive feedback (read: validate me pls).
------
Kat nudged the door to her apartment open with her hip, “Babe, that smells amazing!” She called as she set the groceries down by the door. “I could smell it all the way from the front door.”
With her shoes off and coat hung up, Kat headed into the kitchen, grocery bags full of fruit, cheese, ice cream, and wine in tow.
“Aw thank you, aziz-am, I’m not too familiar with American cuisine so I’ve added some familiar flavors,” Adena responded, wiping her hands on the kitchen towel. She turned to face her lover and Kat placed a chaste kiss on her lips.
“You have flour on your nose,” Kat giggled, wiping it off with her thumb. Adena smiled warmly, loving the feeling that blossoms in her core and spreads to her chest whenever Kat looks at her, touches her, calls her name.
The two women had fallen into a comfortable rhythm since Adena’s return to the city. It was difficult at first, overcoming Kat’s emotional barriers, but no one Adena’d loved before had ever worked as hard as Kat has worked, just to be with her. Adena had done some of her own growing, as well. She’d had to learn how to put down roots, and invite regularity and predictability into her life. In spite of Kat’s occasional impulsivity, she loved order and routine. Adena was surprised to find that the comfort of sameness was exactly what she needed. Kat, in turn, loved the spontaneity that came with being in a relationship with Adena. From the extravagant, impulse road-trips to Niagara Falls, to the more common place, trying new foods and learning new languages, trusting Adena not to tease her for not knowing, trusting when Adena challenges Kat to try something new.
“Thanks so much for cooking babe, I know it’s hard work,” Kat said, looking in awe at the spread surrounding her. Adena simply smiled and waved her hand, not dismissive of Kat’s acknowledgement, only of the necessity of it. “So tell me what all this is!”
“Okay! So we have a turkey, but I seasoned it with herbs and spices from home, that’s still in the oven for another 30 minutes, then there’s roasted potatoes, gravy, salad, sautéed veggies…” As Adena continued to list the products of nearly 5 hours of cooking, Kat set the table and laid out the spread of fruit and cheese. The last time she’d had a Thanksgiving dinner with this much food and so many guests coming over was the year before she left for college. Since then, she’d spent most Thanksgivings making angsty Twitter posts about how stupid the holiday is, and others drinking with Jane and Sutton. Now, she’s not so judgmental, how could she turn down the opportunity to have all her favorite people in one room and all her favorite foods to eat?
After Adena finished her list, Kat looked up at her from the dining room table, “I don’t know if you knew this already but I really, really love you.”
Adena blushed, “I love you too, Kat.” They held each other’s gaze for a minute, until the intensity of the eye contact forced Kat to change the subject.
“So, Sutton said she baked pumpkin pies and pound cake—hence the ice cream, and Jane is bringing spiked organic egg-nog. They’ll be the first to get here to help us set up and clean up and stuff,” Adena nodded along, she definitely didn’t want to do too much cleaning after spending the whole day cooking. “Also, I know you said Firuze is definitely coming, did you get answers from your two artist friends?”
“Yes! They’ll be here, they’re bringing sides, I think,” Adena answered.
“Awesome! And I think Sutton’s bringing Richard, Alex is also coming, still not sure how awk that’ll be, and Jane might invite Pinstripe, they’re still doing this weird dating-not-dating thing. So in total, maybe like 10 people! Damn, I don’t think I’ve been this excited about a holiday since I was a kid, is that weird? I feel weird, and domestic-y,” Adena laughed out loud, she loved Kat’s excited rambling.
“It’s going to perfect,” Adena said, as she moved around the island to take Kat in her arms.
“You’re perfect,” Adena blushed again, and Kat leaned in to kiss her, first softly, then deepening the kiss as her need grew. When Adena moaned softly into her mouth, Kat pulled back, “You said 30 minutes more for the turkey, right?” Adena nodded, giggling, as Kat pulled her towards the bedroom.
The two had indeed found a nice rhythm, and were enjoying each other immensely.

Bronycon 2019 “THE END”
Okay so... I kinda procrastinated on putting this out. I wrote the shell right after the con but only now finished it for posting. I don’t use tumblr much anymore but I couldn’t think of anywhere else to put this. Here is my rundown of the 2019 Bronycon. As per usual, this was written in pieces over time and might be a bit of a mess. I’m not the most coherent person when it comes to writing this sort of thing. So for one final time, Here we go. I apologize if tumblr breaks it all.
Wednesday
The power went out as I was getting ready to leave. I had everything pretty well prepared ahead of time this time.
I was super stressed about things going wrong and of fucking shit up actually helped me get my shit together. Still thought, I left the goddamn pop-tarts behind I had bought to have cheap easy breakfasts, but oh well, wasn't the worst thing that could have happened. Left a little bit later than planned but, we weren't too terribly late either despite all this, and we got to Baltimore in good time. Made a couple stops a long the way. Found a nowhere gas station with a super yikes level sticker display next to a rack of GFT comics. Place sure had an aura about it that did not suit my pastel-horse ribbon wearing shenanigans. Made another stop and bought some twisted tea tall boys that I never ended up drinking at some other rando gas station. Made another stop at the Speedway that was a Hess and got some hot dogs. The one with the M&T next to it, that I've stopped at almost every time I've gone down. It’s dumb, but I’m gonna miss that spot. Some of these places, though dumb and random to anyone else, have memories. Like sitting on the hood of my Geo just shooting the shit with friends on the way to Otakon, or my first solo trip where I unintentionally scared the shit outta my parents cause I accidently made them think I was on the wrong side of the state or how I always took the wrong turn and had to use a middle school parking lot to turn around. Recorded a bunch with my phone cause its gonna be a long time until I’m back to some of these places. Little videos or pictures for nostalgic purposes. Made it into the hotel. No issues with the weirdness with the room reservation, thank god. (I had to do some nonsense with having two reservations and rewards points and stuff due to not getting Sunday night in the con block) Pre-reg was starting at 6 and going until late some time so we did other stuff instead. We went to Tir na Nog for dinner and hung out in the inner harbor, went to Barnes and Noble then the ice cream place. Just some of the staples of hanging out in the Inner Harbor. Went to CVS and I bought some more pop-tarts to replace the ones I left at home. Then we went to pre-reg to pick up badges. Line was pretty huge at the start when we walked past to go get dinner, figured it’d get smaller over time, but holy fuck it didn’t. Pretty sure they had no idea that many people were going to show up which was unfortunately a pretty accurate descriptor of the whole weekend tbh. We waited in line for like two hours, but it went fast enough and was kinda fun. Lots of songs being sung and merriment, especially for a two hour line. A bunch of people asked me about my digital badge or goggles. It’s funny how often the answer to “Where did you get those” is so often “Here a couple years ago” or “Otakon, a whole bunch of year ago”. A 4th of all the people registered showed up supposedly. So many people showed up that they capped line but we were already in. Not much to do after so we went back to the hotel for sleep. Got to bed Pretty early. The bar trot wasn't this night so we just went back. Got a great night of sleep sleeping on a mattress that wasn't butt, almost 8 hours. I wish my mattress at home was as good as this hotel one.
Thursday
Today was the bonus day. There wasn't much going on con-wise, which was fine. It was good to just relax and wander. I got to meet up with a friend from a discord server I'm in. Wandered around a while and took pictures. Also met up with someone who is actually from Baltimore but is moving to Syracuse (and only like a couple days after the con) Waited for vendor hall to open and hung out as a group for a while. There was a big line to get into vendor. It was in a weird spot this time, inside of the harmony plaza and not its own space. Bought a KDA Akali mask but mostly just did a scope out. The vendor was packed. A little more cramped due to the limited space. It was a little hard to move. Couldn’t maintain unit cohesion. Learned the layout though and where most of the vendors were. Got to briefly see a few other cool people from that Discord sever. Planned to do most of my buying, but Justin lost his hotel key (always get spares), had to go let him in the room. On the way back I did a Rayquaza raid with a couple friends. Me and Josh forgot we were one day away from best friends in game and that raids count towards the daily interaction so we didn't pop a lucky egg, whoops. Ate at Jimmy Johns before going to meet up for opening. Unfortunately, Opening got capped due to space. The BCC got shared with a Rubix cube competition so we only had half the space because I don't think they planned on having their highest attendance ever at over 10k people. We didn't have the top floor big hall so the Mane Hall was in where palooza was and it's certainly not sized to hold that many people. This would be a difficulty the whole weekend. I got back into the Harmony Plaza/Vendor Hall. They were livestreaming the Mane Hall, so the staff set up a huge monitor in Harmony Plaza to watch it sorta live. It was pretty emotional. Even the BCC president showed up and said we should keep going. That was a little rough. Then they did something neat. They got Gilbert Gottfried to sing/read This Day Aria. Everyone in the room went bananas. It was hilarious. I met back up with everyone at the hotel and we headed to the bars. Part of our group went to a ramen place they all like. There wasn't enough space for all of us without waiting an forever, so me and Justin just went to the bars. I started drinking at the Dogs Watch. They didn't have any pony themed drinks but there were pony decorations and music playing. It's a nice atmosphere, it's a bit hard to explain, being in an alcohol establishment with music from a colorful pastel horse show playing. I had 3 vodka cranberries. Met back with everyone and went to The Admiral. They had almost no Trixie left, but still enough for me to have one. And I fucking did it, I got the recipe or at the very least I know the materials. Had some of the other drinks too. There was a Pinkie, Twilight and I believe Tempest? The bartender used Champagne for the Pinkie themed drink because it was the last Bronycon. I had a bunch of those, a couple of the others, then a mix of everything. Everyone in our group went back in groups. Me, Sam and Cody were the last ones in our group. Met up with some cool people. One of the guys ordered a Vodka shot for everyone, and then a Tequila shot. After that before I left I thanked the bartender one more time for all he's done to make the bar one of the highlights of our yearly trip and all the cool theme drinks. (Seriously, if you're ever in Baltimore and drink alcohol, go to Fells Point. Find the Admiral Fell Inn, it's a little underground bar and it is AMAZING, and the bartender is a really cool guy.) Our newly formed group left. We didn't want to walk all the way back to our hotels drunk, which funny enough were all next to each other so we summoned a Lyft. While waiting we took a group selfie. We took two, Cody was missing from the first one and then Sam was missing from the other. Plus there was a random guy in both of them we didn't know who it was. THey were seconds apart and I still don't know how that happened. I got a selfie in front of a lingerie shop which amused drunk me greatly. The Lyft came and we all got in, Don't Stop Believing started playing and we all started singing along. It was a good ride back. We got back and me and one other person decided hey, Palooza is still going, lets go. Met up with a fursuiter on the way. Got to catch the last couple acts. It’s a hell of a time drunk. I could feel the soles of my feet vibrating. I had a blast and then went back to the hotel after it ended. Got to bed at like 3. It's fun to stay up doing the late things but it makes it hard to do early things.
Friday
I tried to get up early so I could get there earlier to get one of Baron's commission slots. Alcohol didn't cause many problems outside of a minor headache and mild plumbing problems. Still slowed me down a little. Surprisingly not really hung over aside from that, despite how much I drank. Drink water everybody, it really does help. I went to the con and got into vendor hall. I bought some stuff. I got a Soarin' daki, a game for a friend, among some other things. I bought some original art from Baron too. Didn't get there in time for a commission though. Went to the comic vendor and bought my comics. I'm only missing a couple now. Ended up getting into the line for Whoves Line almost on accident. Got in with no issues, which was cool. It’s good fun, they put on a good show. There was a proposal too which was neat, especially how they did it. Dropped stuff off at the hotel. Went to meet up with our other group and got to see the other hotel we’ve never stayed in. It's fancy af. Our group went to Bubba Gumps and I went in. I figured if it's gonna be my last time here for a very long time I was gonna do it big. Someone jokingly said I should get two Shrimper's Heavens. And then I did it, plus my usual shrimp cocktail. The Great Shrimp Massacre of 2019. Also discovered that their cheese sticks are fuckin massive and I wish I had known. I got a bunch of them that the others couldn't eat. I ate all of that. I did it big. Plumbing didn’t even break. Dropped 100$ at once. It's the most I have very spent on one restaurant trip. I don’t think I’ll be doing that again, but hey, for the final BronyCon that's kinda the point isn't it? We went to ice cream place. (Okay so I don't eat ice cream but they sell some really good tea) Then we went to the Palooza. Forgot to change my socks. Knee-high stockings no good for rave as I discovered. Vylet’s set was absolutely fantastic. (I mean all the acts were great, but she’s a favorite). Also got to see the secret guest whose name was obscured the whole time. I knew who I wanted it to be, and it was. Garnika came back for one more and played a wonderful set. Like usual we stayed the whole thing. It’s so much fun despite knowing waking up will be hard cause I’ll only get like 4 sleep. There is like this odd sense of dread knowing the effect the late night is going to have on you, but you stay anyway because there is such an energy you can't pull yourself away from.
Saturday
Once again I tried to get up early to get a commission slot form Baron. Didn’t end up making it, however, he said he’d do it anyway, and mail it out. (I'm referring to Baron Engel, he's an artist I really like, go look him up!) It's a picture of Fluttershy dressed as Jotaro from JJBA. I've gotten it now and it's really good! I bought more stuff, including another daki that Kyle and Josh jokingly pointed out to me. Didn't think I was going to, but I couldn't turn down the price the guy gave me. I lined up for VA panel script reading. It was an EqG script about the cast graduating and the Celestias swapping places and causing chaos. It was not so subtly about the end of the con. I started to tear up. I realized that was gonna be a common theme throughout the weekend, I fuckin knew it. I do not like crying, especially in public. The closer we got to the end the worse it got. Ran into the cosplay photoshoot which was neat, and there was another proposal. After that I made a hotel deposit and got some Jimmy Johns, and then went to anthology panel. Because of course it was, Gardevoir community day was the same weekend as the con. I bought a new Pokemon+ thing that does it automatically, so I still got to play despite being in a panel or in line for most of it. It was alright. Anthology was great (and holy shit a little raunchier than usual), But then at the end they told us that it was actually longer and they had to cut it for time. (To which I call bullshit, any additional content I’ve seen was far too explicit for the actual con, lul). Went to the Palooza for one final time. I remembered to change my socks this time. Saw Black Gryph0n and Michelle Creber, and then the super band made up of a large variety of fandom musicians. It was really cool. Even got to hear an orchestral performance of one of 4everfree's songs which is something I've not seen them do before. Things ran a little long and it threw the schedule off a bunch. 2 AM hit and Eruobeat hadn't gone yet. (2 is usually when we have to leave by) But Eurobeat did get to do his set despite this because whoever was in charge decided to be cool. "We're suposed to be out by 2, but its 2 and Eurobeat has to play still. We can stay for this but, but when it’s over I'm gonna need y’all to get the fuck out.” And then Eurobeat performed he was one of the first fandom musicians and one of the first to perform at the original BronyPalooza. And of course, for his final song, he performed his 2019 version of Discord. The whole fuckin' room went nuts. It was nothing short of magical. It was the perfect way to end it, the final Bronypalooza. The energy in the room was insane. Bronypalooza was always one of my favorite parts of the con. I’m told other EDM concerts are crazier, but I don’t know if I want crazier. There was something absolutely magical about a room full of all different kinds of people losing their shit to pastel horse based music waving dakis and plushies and some in full fursuit and some in cosplay and some in plain clothes and every kinda nonsense you can imagine. Just rocking out and having a good time. It's an experience and a kind of magic that I don’t know what will ever be able to compare. I'll never forget it.
Sunday
THE FINAL DAY. I switched over reservations with no issues and went to the con. Ended up mostly wandering around the vendor hall yeeting money away before lining up for closing. I recorded a bunch of wandering around. There was a Bronycon memorial shrine that was set up too that people had left all sorts of crazy stuff at too. I bought some random but cool stuff. I also commissioned a badge of my pony character! (Better late than never huh?) Was gonna buy a couple things but ended up not. I ran into Vylet wandering the vendor hall! Got a picture with her and Namii!. Lined up for closing, which turned into a bit of a clusterfuck. It got capped again due to room. In the clusterfuck I was able to meet back up with Andy, Sam, and Justin. However while in line I got to see a whole bunch of con staff set up huge monitors to stream it to the overflow room so as many people as possible can see it. It was... very emotional, was pretty much just sobbing in a whole room full of people. Got a conclusion to the mascot storyline too. I never want to forget how I feel after these things. Walking out of the con center for the last time was fucking surreal. I've been there so many times. I remember being confused by the layout the first couple times and by the end, I had the whole thing memorized. (Okay, I couldn't remember lobby names for shit, but I knew where it all was.) I cried a whole bunch as we all walked out together reminiscing. We sat in the hotel room as a group just kinda being sad and reminiscing and decompressing for a little while. Then we went to a bar after party event things in a place I’d never been. It was a pretty relaxing atmosphere. Instead of being in the bar we sat outside on these sofa things on the deck rather than watching the concert on the inside (But hoenstly it was so loud you could hear it well enough). A lot of the non-EDM rock musicians there. It was honestly really nice sitting there under the open sky just listening to music. Feeling the sunset while the city lights get brighter and the sky fades to dark was nice. I checked Pokemon Go since I had my automatic bracelet thing doing it's thing, turns out I caught a random Shiny Alolan Geodude. I nicknamed it the Bronycon Memorial Rock, it's a Golem now. Had some shots too. After a while we went back to the hotel. We decided to do a Insomnia Cookie order, since it went so well last year. And oh was it a clusterfuck. So we made our order. I forgot to mention that we were in a hotel so I called them and they said they'd call us when they got there and that I would come down. Roughly 15 minutes later, the call came. I said I'd be down. I went to the lobby and found a delivery man with a white box. He comes up to me and asks me if I was the one that ordered pizza. Nope, wasn't me. He got a little frustrated but continued to wait for his people. No cookie delivery guy. I call him back. This was basically the convo: "Hello, I'm down in the lobby but I can't find you" "Wait, it wasn't you that picked up the cookies?" "No I just got here, there is a confused pizza man down here though." (I should note that they're both white square boxes) "Oh fuck I'm so sorry I gave it to the wrong person we'll remake your order and come back" "No problem man, it happens to the best of us, I'll just wait down in the lobby this time" I repeated the order, he apologized and hung up. The pizza guy just left the pizza with the front desk. I saw that they still had the menus up for the pony themed alcohol so I ordered an Applejack(Apple brandy, hard cider and ice). Accidentally ended up calling another friend trying to call the cookie guy back who also happened to be at a bar back home and had a chat about what we were drinking/doing so that was cool. Eventually the cookie guy came back and we had cookies. Then everyone wanted pizza. Yet another clusterfuck occurred, turns out they ran out of dough or something so after like a half hour wait, we got our money back. After that we just went to sleep.
Monday
We packed everything up and loaded the car when we got up. Then we decided to have one last day in the inner harbor. We went to Tir Na Nog as a big group for one last time, then headed to the aquarium. The aquarium is nifty. I like to watch the jellyfish. They're so goddamn relaxing. Even one of the employees said the same thing. We left and took a group picture in the harbor before finally heading back. Once again, leaving was a bit sombre, there was just such a finality to it, walking past the BCC down Pratt St. After hanging out in the hotel lobby for a little bit, we got on the road to home. During the ride back, It ended up coming up why the area is significant to me and why I wanted to do certain things and why this whole crazy thing started in the first place. I never really bring it up, but it felt kinda good to talk about it. It was a relatively uneventful ride home. We stopped at a McDonalds at some point. Got home, unpacked and crashed, feeling exhausted from the weekend.
Conclusion:
Yeah it's no secret I procrastinated writing/finishing this for a couple months. I guess I just didn't want to deal with it being over. I've mentioned before that this con and the surrounding area is pretty important to me. A yearly tradition that I looked forward to and saved for. I had gone to Otakon almost every year between 2006-2012. Once I realized interest in Otakon had waned, I got kinda sad, but then something wild happened. Bronycon announced they were moving down to a new location. The Baltimore Inner Harbor in the BCC. I had been talking with a couple friends about going to the next Bronycon and that absolutely cemented it. That was 2013. Then in 2014, I was contacted by some guy my dad worked with who was wondering if I had intended to go the next year. That's how I met Andy. I made a bunch of friends through the con/show and reconnected with old ones too. I made sure to go down every year since. Aside from 2010, I've gone to the Baltimore Inner Harbor every year since 06. It's gonna be hard knowing I won't be back there for a while most likely. I've got a bunch of memories down here across many years. I know this has been totally disjointed because I'm writing it months later, coming off the MLP series finale, so I'm feeling some feels. I think that's part of why I decided to finish it now. I've said for a while that Bronycon was one of the best conventions I've ever attended. The atmosphere was something unique and magical. I don't think I could ever describe it properly. I don't think I'll ever find anything that quite captures the magic, but one thing is sure, I'm never gonna forget the times we've had here. It really has been magic.

A Delicious Cooked, Nonalcoholic Eggnog Recipe
Fans of eggnog cheer when they see it decorating the dairy case during the last few months of the year. But after December it disappears again. Though we love the smooth, custardy sweetness, we may hate the additives listed on the back panel of the carton. But you can enjoy this treat year-round by following an easy nonalcoholic eggnog recipe. (Alcohol is optional at the end.)
First, gather your ingredients.
Depending on your state, you may be able to purchase fresh, raw milk and cream. Or you own dairy animals. Perhaps you’re consigned to purchase milk and cream at the supermarket, but don’t let that disappoint you. The store-bought stuff still makes amazing eggnog. The “milk” portion of this recipe can be anything from skim to whole milk, but real cream is necessary to carry the flavor.

Now you need eggs. This is the primary focus of eggnog and amazing custards. If you know your egg facts, then you know the digestible protein in cooked eggs is higher than that of raw eggs. Farmers keeping their own chickens don’t have to worry as much about salmonella, but it can still be a danger. Gently heating the eggnog past 160 degrees avoids that worry. Before starting this recipe, either gather fresh eggs from the coop or let refrigerated eggs stand on the counter just long enough to come to room temperature. This allows the eggs to temper better when they meet the hot milk.
Third, you need sugar. Simple white sugar creates a pure and clean flavor. But if you want a distinct hint of caramel in your eggnog, replace some or all of the sugar with brown sugar, piloncillo, or date palm jaggery. But have a conservative hand here; if you use too much brown or natural sugar, the deep flavors might overpower the delicate vanilla.
And speaking of vanilla, have you learned how to make homemade vanilla extract? I highly recommend it. The ingredients are pure and the flavor is amazing, both traits that we also want for our nonalcoholic eggnog recipe. You can also use one or two vanilla beans, unlocking the flavor by steeping the pods and seeds for a half hour in hot cream before using the cream to continue on with the recipe.
Last of all … nutmeg. It may be difficult to find whole nutmeg outside specialty shops and international stores. It’s brown, hard, and round like a fruit stone. If you can find it, grab it up and grind it fresh using a fine-toothed rasp grater. Even if you don’t have access to the whole spice you can find flavorful, high-quality nutmeg in your local supermarket.
Honorable mention: rum extract. This puts the “nonalcoholic” in “nonalcoholic eggnog recipe.” Using a little rum extract gives the eggnog warm, buttery notes without inebriating your children. If you desire a more adult beverage, add a few ounces of real rum or bourbon.
Cooked, Nonalcoholic Eggnog Recipe
1 dozen large egg yolks
1 cup sugar
2 cups heavy cream
4 cups milk
2 teaspoons freshly grated nutmeg
Pinch of salt
1 teaspoon homemade vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon rum extract (optional)
In a medium bowl or in the bowl to a stand mixer, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until they become a thick, light yellow. Let stand while you heat the milk.
Combine the milk, cream, nutmeg, and salt in a large saucepan. Heat on medium-low, stirring often, until the mixture barely reaches a simmer.
Now carry the saucepan over to your egg yolks and start your mixer. (Or whisk vigorously by hand as you scoop.) Start with ½ cup of the hot milk, slowly adding it to the eggs while whisking constantly to avoid clumps of cooked egg. Add another ½ cup, continuing to whisk so you slowly temper the eggs to the correct temperature. Keep adding the milk in the same manner until it has all been added to the eggs.
Pour the tempered milk/egg mixture back into the saucepan and continue heating on medium-low, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit on a cooking thermometer. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and rum extracts.
You can be finished at this point, but if you love a truly smooth drink, filter it through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any small clumps of egg or spice. Now pour into a heat-proof container and stretch plastic wrap over the rim, pressing the plastic against the eggnog to prevent a skin from forming as the mixture cools.
Serve chilled.
Now that you’ve made your amazing homemade, nonalcoholic eggnog recipe, what are you going to do with it? Drink it, of course. But you can also use it as coffee “creamer” for an eggnog latte. Try it as the milk/cream base for a chai tea, adding warm vanilla tones to an already sweet and addictive drink. Or cool the mixture at least 24 hours before pouring it into the bowl of an ice cream maker. There’s no need to alter the recipe to make eggnog ice cream; the fat and sugar balances are already perfect.
Indulgent Variations:
To make homemade eggnog even more of a treat, try one of these indulgent variations.
Alternative Add/Change Notes Goat Milk Eggnog Replace whole milk with whole goat milk for a distinctive tang. Allergic to cow’s milk or want a lower-fat recipe? Replace all milk and cream with goat milk. Duck Egg-Nog Replace all yolks with eight to 12 duck egg yolks, depending on duck egg size. Some people with chicken egg allergies can eat duck eggs. Either way, the yolks make a richer, creamier finished eggnog. Vanilla Bean Nog Slice one to two vanilla beans lengthwise, scraping out seeds, and steeping seeds and pod 30 minutes in hot cream. Proceed with recipe. This replaces vanilla extract and any extract ingredients which may be questionable or unacceptable. Honey Nog Replace sugar with honey. If you have chickens, bees, and dairy animals, your egg nog can be almost completely homestead-grown. (Except for the spices.) Pumpkin Spice Nog Add a tablespoon of pumpkin puree and a dash of cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. Use canned puree or roasted, strained winter squash (not Jack-o-lantern pumpkins) so you don’t water down the recipe. Chocolate Nog Replace nutmeg with a tablespoon or two of cocoa powder. This creates a thick and very rich “hot” cocoa drink. Dairy-Free Nog Switch milk and cream out for coconut or almond milk. If using almond milk, reduce added sugar.
Have you tried this cooked, nonalcoholic eggnog recipe? Please let us know how you liked it.

A Shakesonaplane Guide To Drinking During The Holidays
Merry Christmas / Happy Hanukkah / Happy Kwanzaa (and anything else just to make sure I didn’t miss anyone). If you’re like me, the holidays can be a very busy season. The packed airports, the stressful shopping, the oodles of family time and the aggressive shutting of any luggage due to overpacking / over gifting. One of the ways I aim to make it through this season, aside from the obvious cheer / joy / glee / Disney-related emotions is a little bit of liquid spirit (pun intended). I hope that, after you read this on Christmas Eve, you find your way to a kitchen somewhere to organize your booze and ingredients and give one of these delectable potables a go. But I’m sure some of you are asking, “what on Earth makes you an expert in any of this?” To that, I must say, nothing really…I just really enjoy everything cocktail related, whether that be drinking them, thinking of new ones, bartending for my friends and coworkers, or just experimenting with whatever it is I can find in a liquor cabinet. Please note: I’m a great party guest if you need someone to spice up your gin+tonic, vodka+soda, whisky+ginger house party game.
Credentials for bartending can be found by the folks who don’t remember the photos they take of me after a few of these
So, without further ado, here are my 5 favorite holiday cocktails for you, your family, your friends, and anyone else you need to inebriate. Please note, these all have a twist of my own doing, in case you’re wondering about certain ingredients:
Mulled Wine
This is a new favorite of mine after my move this past year to the UK. It was amazing to me how many people drink outside during the cold weather in London, until I realized that they all had mugs of something warm that was also getting them feisty drunk. Mulled wine is a fairly simple stove-top drink that can be made with many ingredients you might just have laying around. With the right mixes, you can cater this to whichever group of party guests you have over.
Vermouth Mulled Wine (6 servings)
1 bottle red wine (I prefer a Pinot Noir, Zinfandel or Merlot)
3 clementines, sliced round
3 sticks cinnamon
2 dashes powdered cinnamon
10 cloves
1/4 cup (60ml) sweet red vermouth
1/8 cup (30ml) amber honey
In a large pot on medium-high heat, add all ingredients. Stir slowly until pot comes to a simmer (do not boil, you’ll lose the alcohol), then set heat to low and cover with a lid. Simmer covered for 15min to 3hrs, depending on your will power. Serve in a mug with a slice of clementine.
Hot Buttered Rum
Not something you’ll find in the UK, this recipe is what I think someone created when they were left with only a random assortment of ingredients and a bottle of rum. After slowly but surely adding everything and tasting this, they probably had an epiphany about life and then fell into a drunken sleep only to be jarred awake my a small child prodding them thinking they were Santa. Hot buttered rum can be a little odd when you make it, given the butter in a cocktail, but trust me when I say, this one will warm your heart and soul and mind and anything else that feels cold.
Hot Buttered Coconut Rum (4 servings)
2/3 cup (160ml) brown sugar
1 stick unsalted butter
1/4 cup (60ml) honey
2 dashes ground cinnamon
1 dash ground nutmeg
1 pinch of ground cloves
1 pinch of salt
3/4 cup (180ml) spiced rum
1/4 cup (60ml) fresh coconut water
2 cups ( 480ml) boiling water
Beat the brown sugar, butter, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt in a medium bowl until blended and smooth. Move to a large pitcher / measuring cup, then add the rum and coconut water. Slowly stir in the boiling water until the butter mixture dissolves. Serve in a mug and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
Hot Chocolate
I know what you’re thinking. ”But Shakesonaplane (wait, do you actually know my name?), isn’t hot chocolate a kids’ drink?” To that, I would reply yes, it usually is, until you stop and realize that the happiest adults in the world are the ones who are still children at heart. After you digest that therapy mic-drop, find your way to some Christmas cheer with a spiked hot chocolate to let your inner kid revel in the fact that alcohol and chocolate are a fun mixture. As you might’ve noticed, pretty much everything here will help increase your holiday waistline, so after a few of these I’ll see you in the gym in January.
Big Kids Peppermint Hot Chocolate (6 servings)
1 quarter (or 1 L) milk or half-and-half (depending on how thick you enjoy hot chocolate)
4 oz (115g) dark chocolate chips (recommended: Guittard)
2 oz (55g) semi-sweet chocolate chips (recommended: Guittard)
1/8 cup (30ml) white sugar
9 oz (250ml) peppermint schnapps
6 peppermint sticks
small marshmallows
In a medium saucepan, add the milk, chocolate chips, sugar and whisk on medium-low heat. Continue this till the chocolate melts completely and the mixture comes to a low simmer (do not let it boil). Ladle in the hot chocolate to a mug and top with 1.5 oz (45ml) peppermint schnapps. Stir with a peppermint stick and top with marshmallows.
Eggnog
Don’t worry, not all the drinks I have are meant to be physically warming experiences. Sometimes what we need in the cold is a little Wim Hof-action, where we get into something even colder to tell our bodies that we’re fine. Now, I’m no expert here, but for the sake of alcoholic argument, let’s assume that whole bit makes sense. Now that I’ve convinced you to take cold showers (or at least drink cold drinks in the winter), turn your head to eggnog, the most controversial seasonal drink I’ve encountered. Some people can’t handle the idea of eggs in a drink without any cooking, but you’d be surprised how tasty this is (and how many of those people enjoy egg whites shaken in a cocktail). Add a little zing to your eggnog and you’re off and running towards a dizzy-ing holiday.
Smokey Egg Nog (6 servings)
6 large egg yolks
1 cup (240ml) sugar
2 cup (480ml) cold milk
1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
1/2 cup (120ml) bourbon
1/4 cup (60ml) smokey scotch (Laphroaig or something peaty)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
ground nutmeg
In a large bowl, whisk the yolks and the sugar until smooth and frothy. Whisk in the milk, cream, bourbon, scotch and vanilla extract. Transfer into a pitcher and refrigerate overnight. Serve in a clear glass and top with nutmeg. Note, if you need to make this quicker than “overnight”, 20min in the fridge + a quick stint in a blender will do the trick. Thanks to Rajat for the tip!
Brandy Alexander
This is a classic recipe that needs no additions, but is sadly not something I often see on holiday menus. As my go-to drink for any holiday potluck, this shaken cocktail is the easiest to make of all these festive drinks. The catch is that it has unique ingredients and tools that a bartender might stock at home, but the average person might not. If you haven’t invested in a good cocktail shaker and want to try this, now is the time. Note, this is an unadulterated recipe, so feel free to experiment if you think it needs something.
Brandy Alexander (1 serving)
1.5 oz (45ml) brandy
1 oz (30ml) Crème de Cacao
1 oz (30ml) half-and-half
ground nutmeg
Add all ingredients to a boston shaker. Cover with ice and shake well. Double strain into a martini or coupe glass and sprinkle with nutmeg.
I’ll leave you there, if you’ve made it this far and have tried all the drinks and can still read, congratulations, you are officially doing the holidays right…but you should probably go lie down now. With that, I’m off for the rest of the year. Here’s wishing you and your loved ones an amazing holiday season and a very happy New Year. Cheers! Abhishek

How do you make homemade eggnog even more of a treat? Try using goat milk instead of cow milk for a distinguished tang (learn more about goat milk benefits.) Replace the chicken eggs with duck eggs. You don’t have to research the egg facts to notice how the difference in the proteins affects the beverage’s final texture. Try replacing some of the sugar with honey. Add a little cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and just a tablespoon of smooth pumpkin puree for pumpkin spice eggnog. Or, when the milk is nice and hot, replace the nutmeg with a spoon or two of cocoa powder for a thick, rich chocolate nog.
