Angst with no comfort

Modern AU, No gangs [Both Reader and Senju are in High school]

“ I’ll be waiting at the park near that little pond“ Message was sent at 12:03pm

That text was sent 1 hour ago by Senju to you. Of course, being in High school is stressful but being in high school and not making time for your girlfriend was a big no no. Well in Senju’s book it was.

A sigh left the light pink haired girl's mouth as she sat down on a bench and waited for her [H/c] haired girlfriend, looking at the little kids playing in the park then turning her head to see a.. Ice Cream vending machine!? Senju   excitedly   got up from the bench as she had stars in her eyes then was about to walk towards there but remembered she had to wait for her significant other “Aw come on” Senju said as she sighed in defeat kicking a rock that was near her.

“You can go..” After hearing the soft quiet voice Senju looked to her left and saw what appears to be her significant other “Y/N!!!” Senju shouted as she didn’t even waste a second and hugged Y/n as she accidentally put some of her weight onto Y/n while hugging her “I thought you weren’t coming I was soo worried” Senju said while whining “Well why would I wanna leave you alone? Sorry I was a little.. late '' Y/n says while struggling to keep up with Senju’s weight on her.

“Hmph! Well don’t be late all the time You know! This is the 3rd time you were” Senju said while finally getting off of her lover letting Y/n regain her balance “Like I said I’m sorry- ""You said that last time!” “I know Senju, I know, I'm sorry I’ll make it up to you somehow okay?” Y/n said give Senju a smile then hug her. This caught Senju off guard causing her to be flustered by the sudden affection. “Okay, Okay I forgive you..” Senju says, patting Y/n on the back as her cheeks turn a shade of light pink.

Letting go of Senju, Y/n let out a sigh then spoke once more “I can pay you back right now” Digging into her pocket she pulled out some yen then handed to Senju “Here go get your Ice cream”  “Really!? Thanks Y/n!” Once again Senju hugged Y/n then run off to the Ice cream shouting “I won’t take too long!” as all Y/n did was Nodded.

Seeing Senju happy makes Y/n happy, Seeing Senju angry makes Y/n concerned, Seeing Senju bashful makes Y/n very happy. ‘It’s funny how people’s feelings can change based on the other person’s feelings’ Y/n thought to herself as She saw Senju running back “ Guess what flavor I got Y/n!!!” “Is it Choco-mint?” A dramatic gasp left Senju’s mouth as looked at Y/n as if she just got backstabbed “HOW DID YOU KNOW!? Was it Takemichi?? Did he tell you??” Senju said, looking deeply into Y/n’s eyes.

“No Senju, It quite obvious by the color of the ice cream” Y/n said pointing at the   Choco-mint ice cream in Senju’s hand “Oooh, I guess that makes sense” Senju said giving Y/n a goofy smile as a quick giggle left Y/n’s mouth “Oh Senju? Why are you still in your school uniform?” “Cause it’s comfy” “It’s not even a school day till tomorrow” “Well I like my comfy school uniform Y/n'' Senju said while eating her ice cream in one hand while holding Y/n’s hand in her other as they walked through the park.

“So I heard there’s gonna be a festival tomorrow night, and they're gonna have fireworks there” Senju said while still eating her Ice cream “Yeah.., I think I heard of it coming from a few classmates” “Wanna go? I don’t have any plans tomorrow night” Senju said looking towards Y/n and giving her a smile as all she got was silence in return.

“Y/n?” Senju said quietly giving Y/n a concerned look, But Y/n was lost in her thoughts till Senju let go of her hand snapping Y/n back to reality “Oh? Uhh.. What were you saying Senju?” taking a pause for a second then grabbing back Y/n’s hand Senju spoke once more “Do you wanna go to the festival tomorrow with me Y/n?...” Senju said with blushing rising on to her cheeks and not making eye-contact with Y/n.

“Oh! um.. Sure, I’ll love to!” Y/n said as blush also grew onto her cheeks as well “Well that’s great to hear! thanks Y/n!” Senju said, gaining all her confidence back and kissing her girlfriend on the cheek as Blush grew more onto Y/n’s face as she also leaned in and kissed Senju on the cheek as well. Both Y/n and Senju kept walking throughout the park speaking with one another about random things while throwing a few kisses here and there.

The Next Day..

“Wanna walk to school together tomorrow?” Message sent at 9:56pm last night

Message was left on seen.

“Come on Y/n.. You could at least answer "you know” Senju whispered to herself as she waited in front of Y/n’s apartment building, Looking at the time on Senju’s phone it was 8:28am ‘It’s about to be time for classes..’ Senju thought to herself as a sigh left her mouth.

Taking one more glance at Y/n’s apartment building, Senju walked to school alone feeling a bit gloomy due to missing Y/n’s presence.

The room lights were off in the bedroom as the light of the sun reflected off the window. The bedroom was messy, plushies were on the floor, the blanket slides off the bed, and pillows were on different corners of the bed basically everything was where it wasn’t supposed to be as Y/n sat in the corner with a pair scissors in her hand, There was bleeding scars on Y/n’s left leg. “Y/n! Hurry up I have work and you have school, Let’s go!!” .

9:30am

Pushing the door open Y/n walked into the classroom “You late again Miss L/n.” “I’m sorry Mr. Saito, Something came up again at home.” Y/n said bending down to the teacher “This is the 4th time you have came late hm, I’m gonna need to have a word with your mother about this..” no words left Y/n mouth as she walked over desk and took a seat “Well anyways like I was saying if we...” The teacher's voice fades away.

Y/n took a seat at her desk as she looked around, finally letting her eyes lay on the window, watching leaves fall off the tree. Mr. Saito continued teaching as class went on. 

1:00pm

The bell rang signaling that It was lunch time, Y/n got up from her desk and walked over to the classroom door as other students followed while chatting with one another. After walking out the classroom Y/n was greeted by a smiling Senju “Hey Y/n! How are you doing” “Oh I’m alright, How about you? How have you been?” “I’ve been great as always! Wanna eat lunch together?”

 Senju says smiling at Y/n “Yeah sure! That sounds good, Let’s do it ""Okay!” a grin grew on Senju’s face as she grabbed your hand and led you to the rooftop to eat.

Both of you chatted and smiled with one another as Senju’s smile dropped a bit as she spoke in a low voice “Hey, Um Y/n I have a question...” taken to realized how quiet her girlfriend has gotten Y/n spoke “Oh sure, what is it?” “I-I texted you last night, You don’t usually reply sometime or at all but I was kind of curious why?”.

Senju asked with worried eyes as she looked at Y/n who hesitated to speak as she bit her lip then spoke “I-I was cleaning the apartment with my mom, sorry” “Oh no it’s fine!” Senju said as she placed her hand on Y/n’s.

 Senju glanced at Y/n’s legs then said “Wearing high socks today I see!” Senju giggled “you usually wear short socks” Senju said smiling at Y/n trying to lighten up the mood “Oh yeah um, all the short socks are in the laundry now so uh yeah” “Oh alright”.

Both Senju and Y/n chatted until the bell rang, signaling that lunchtime was over and it was time to go to class, Y/n got up to head to class as Senju said “We’re still going to the festival together right?” “Oh right, the festival! Yes yes of course I-I’ll be there!” “Great! the festival starts at 4:00pm, wanna go at 5?” “Um, Yeah! I-I-I might be a little late” Senju smiled at Y/n “ That’s fine! See you there!” 

Senju said with a hint of happiness in her voice as Y/n nodded as they both headed back to their classes.

4:23pm

Trying on the newest dress She just brought, Senju did a little spin in the mirror as a smile grew on her face, excited to go to the festival with Y/n. Thinking about all the things they could do together as she went to the mirror to go fix her hair and put it into a bun then go try on shoes to see which one matches the dress with all these things to do Senju couldn’t help but smile at the thought of being with Y/n.

4:45pm

“They all look terrible on me..” Y/n thought to herself as she tried on a few dresses for the festival, Some of them made her look like she gained some weight which made Y/n feel self-conscious, Some of them made her look a bit flat or not that big chested, “I hate this..” Y/n threw another dress across the room as she leaned her back on the wall as she curled up in a ball. “Why is it so hard to look good? I just want to look good” tears fell from her eyes “Why can’t I look pretty” Y/n grabbed a pair of scissors from off the dresser. “Am I not worthy of such a thing?”

4:56pm

Senju was walking to the festival smiling on the way, as she paused and looked the her left it was the route to Y/n apartment, “If I went through here me and Y/n could walk to the festival together!” Senju thought to herself as she just about to walk over to the route remembered what if Y/n wanted it to be a surprise when Senju sees her as Senju walked to the route towards the festival smiling hoping to see Y/n later while making sure not to mess up her outfit.

4:59pm

“Y/N! I’m going out, I’m coming home late again. Don’t text nor call me. There’s mac and cheese in the microwave from last night and hurry up! Aren’t you supposed to be meeting with a friend today or something!?” Y/n’s mom shouted as the sound of the front door slamming echoed throughout the apartment “friend? Not even my own mother knows I’m into women” Y/n thought to herself as tears dropped from her eyes “I should get ready Senju is wait from me” Y/n thought to herself as she got up and walked over to the mirror and saw herself. 

Red eyes from crying, Messy hair, blood spilling from her legs, dirty pajamas, scissors with dry blood on them. “I’m a mess” Y/n fell onto the ground and held her knees close her as tears fell for her eyes 

“Why me? Why can’t I just look good for Senju ""Senju deserves better ""Do you even love her? cause if you did, you would get up and get ready for her” “Your nothing but dead weight for your mother” “Your teacher is getting sick of seeing you” “Your classmates don’t even like you” “Senju should find a better person than a dirty mess of a human being like you” More and more thought came over Y/n’s mind as the scissors came across her skin.

5:09pm

Senju arrived at the festival. The festival was beautiful! All the pretty colors, the nice food being set out, the games you could play, the prettiest sights you could see, the nice sky view, people walking with friends, partners, family. It was all so amazing with a smile on her face. Senju looked around but stayed near the entrance waiting for her lover to come. 

She saw Draken with Emma and Takemichi with Hina as She smiled and waved to them as they smiled and waved back.

5:38pm

“She’s 38 mins late..” Senju thought to herself as she looked at the other couples hanging out as she pulled out her phone to text Y/n but then she stared at the Y/n’s contact and put her phone not wanting to bother her as her mom might be holding her up or she was trying to fix something. She leaned on the wall and continued looking around.

5:54pm

“54 mins late...” Senju thought to herself as she took out her phone as she debated whether to text Y/n or not “What if she’s still getting ready?” “What if her mom is holding her up?” “What if she’s trying to find something important?” Senju whisper quietly to herself. Senju decided to text her.

“I’m already at the festival, Are you ready yet?”   Message was sent at 5:55pm

6:13pm

Senju sat on a nearby bench that was still near the entrance as she looked around still waiting for Y/n as she looked at the sky, it was starting to get dark as the festival still look pretty as ever even in the dark as she check to see if Y/n has texted back or at least seen it as the message was left on the delivered. Senju looked at entrance hoping that Y/n would just walk through it.

6:32pm

Senju pulled out her phone getting worried why Y/n wasn’t coming “She usually come late but not this late” Senju thought to herself as she started texting Y/n again.

“Hey I’m already at the festival waiting for you, I’m not rushing you or anything just letting you know”

“Hey You there?”

“Y/n?”   Messages was sent at 6:34pm 

Putting her phone away as she crossed her arms with a worried expression on her face as she looked around hoping desperately that Y/n would come.

6:38pm

She walked out her room dropping the scissors from her hands as she opened the balcony side door as blood spilled from her legs, she lift up her legs and stand up on the balcony railing. Y/n took out her phone.

“I love you” Message was sent at 6:41pm

6:42pm

Senju saw the Y/n’s message as she stood up from the bench and ran out of the festival. Something felt wrong, very wrong.

The sound of a woman screaming echo throughout the city, The sound of the police and ambulance echo throughout the city, the sound of people gathering to see what has happened echo throughout the city. Senju ran as fast as could , taking the route to Y/n’s house as she finally made it.

6:53pm

Y/n’s mom fell on her knee as the paramedic shook their head back and forth signaling that it was too late. Senju looked around, the police started telling everyone to leave as   the crowd began to disappear. Senju watched as the   ambulance left. 

Her vision became blurry, tears threatening to spill from her eyes as she leaned her back onto the wall. Y/n’s kept crying as some people from the crowd comforted her.

“But why?” Tears fell from her eyes “What was the reason?” Senju held knees close to herself “Was I not able to help you?” her breathing grew heavier “I’m sorry”.

Falling for my Bestie

Y/N’s POV

Y/N was laying in a hospital bed, having just gotten a epidural as she gripped Kayce’s hand and pushed as she was in active labor with her daughter as she had been in labor for a while now “Kayce, don’t you think that we should tell your dad what name we picked out together?” She says, softly as she squeezed his hand again as she was hit with another contraction before she pushed once more and felt relief as she heard a cry and felt them place her daughter on her chest as she laid there and held her little girl as she rubbed the baby’s back to help her little girl breath as she yawned softly and saw a excited looking Tate ``come here and meet your sister buddy, after all. You’ve been promoted to big brother, and you’ve gotta protect your little sister. Think you can do that for me and your daddy baby boy?” She says softly. 

Tate's POV

I immediately raced onto my mom's bed seeing her holding my baby sister. I can't believe I'm a brother. Climbing into the bed with mom I smile seeing mom's eyes staring back at me. "She has your eyes mama. She's even smaller than I am." Dad chuckles along with mom who nods at me. "It's hard to believe you were once this size too, son." My baby sister tugged at my pinky giggling I think. "Is she named Olivia, daddy?" I asked hoping my name gets picked. Dad leaned over ruffling my hair a little, smiling. "Sorry son, you're mom and I have something else in mind. How about you go get grandpa and then we'll share it." Jumping from the bed I rushed into the hallway calling for grandpa who was standing outside the room. "Grandpa got in here so I know if my sis is named Olivia." He chuckled stepping in the doorway as I'm jumping up and down wanting to know. "We'd like to introduce-" Footsteps came from the hall and in came in aunt Beth, nearly out of breath. "Don't think you can announce a new family member without me." Mom and everyone else lightly chuckled with me itching to know still. "Okay now that everyone is here. We'd like to introduce Evelyn Rose Dutton." Dad mumbled slowly, wiping away a tear or two. "After mom." 

Y/N's POV

Y/N was sitting in the bed, holding a sleeping Evelyn as she saw Dad standing there "why don't you come and hold your new granddaughter, I'm sure that she'll warm right up to you and sleep so soundly. She was a little bit bigger than Tate, she weighed in at 7 lbs and 9 ounces, but she's 21 inches long. Talk about a big baby, but we love our baby girl and she is a part of us. Just like mom was, she'd be happy that we named our baby girl after her. We always talked about our future, and here we are. Living the dream, our own little life. With two perfect kids, and the best family that anyone could ever ask for." She says, holding Kayce's hand as she yawned softly "I'm gonna try and get some sleep before she wakes up and needs to be fed again" 

Kayce's POV

Y/n's sound asleep with Tate laying wrapped up in her arms asleep as well. Baby Evelyn is asleep in her crib beside the bed. Beth decided to stay for a couple hours so I could get some sleep myself since dad had to help everyone return everything we took to the camp back to the ranch. "Mr. Dutton, a word please?" A nurse's voice calling out to me makes me wake up in the uncomfortable lobby coach. "Uh sure, what is it?" The nurse smiled pointing to Tate standing by the front desk. "He keeps saying he's hungry." Lifting myself up I rub the sleep from my eyes carrying my hat in my left hand. "I've got'em. So you're hungry huh?" My son followed me through the hallway looking for food that isn't in a vending machine. "Yeah, you think they got any choco-chips?" Shaking my head I shrugged and opened the door to the cafeteria. "Maybe. If they do, they're not gonna be as good as Gator make'em." Tate found his breakfast nearly shoveling it down his throat making me chuckle. "Easy there son, you'll lose a finger if you ain't careful." He nodded, starting to eat a little slower. He really is gonna be a good big brother. 

Y/N’s POV

Y/N smiled and sat in bed, holding Evelyn as she fed her while rubbing her back “you’re grandma would have loved you. She was a gentle soul, and i believe that you will get that from her sweet girl” She says, kissing Evelyn’s head as she looked up and saw Kayce standing there with Tate who was smiling from ear to ear as she patted the bed and helped Tate into the bed as she let him hold Evelyn as she was happy “she loves you already, and i have no doubt that y'all are gonna be close and have fun when we take you both to the campsite when you are both older and able to ride horses. Now tell me, what did your daddy give you for breakfast because I'm betting on it. He gave you something that had chocolate in it, because the whole time I was pregnant with you, chocolate was all I wanted. Your father can attest to that because I constantly made him run to the store so he could get it for me” She says, watching as Tate burped Evelyn and rocked her slowly to lull her back to sleep. 

Beth's POV 

I can't believe I have another child to spoil. Rip always likes seeing me smile when I talk about Tate. I can basically treat them like my kids since we can't have any of our own. Thanks to Jamie. Kayce and Tate went for food so I said I'd watch Y/n and the baby. "Beth, come meet little Evelyn." Y/n says still tiredness in her voice. I sat in the chair pulled up beside her bed getting to hold her for the first time. When I first heard this baby's name I felt angry hearing it again after so many years. Our mother blamed me for the horse accident that killed her. My brother and sister in law never had anger towards her because they were too little at the time. But looking at the babygirl in my arms I only feel happiness. She's half of my little brother and half of his best friend. It'll take time for me to get used to hearing the name everyday but this little bundle of joy isn't my mother, she's my little niece.

John’s POV

John was in the helicopter, flying out to the hospital in Bozeman to pick Kayce and Y/N up to bring them home as well as Beth since they had discharged Y/N and Evelyn from the hospital and cleared them to go home as John saw Kayce standing there with his daughter in law and granddaughter who was asleep in her mother’s arms peacefully as John opened the door for them and helped them both inside as he had a carseat in a seat for Evelyn as he watched Y/N buckle her in the car seat “y’all ready to go home, been a while since you’ve seen the ranch. Tate is already there with Rip and Beth since they went home early and got everything set up for you guys in the cabin. They figured that we could all have a big family dinner tonight, and you can bring Evelyn.” He says, running a hand through his hair as he placed a tan hat on his head and waited for everyone to be seated before he finally started flying back to the ranch slowly so as to not wake his little granddaughter who was sleeping soundly despite the loud whirring of the helicopter blades going around.

Vending Machine Choco

Kara's POV~

“What's up my homo?” Brainy says when I open my door after he knocked.

I choke on the juice I had been drinking, laughing. “I'm sorry what?” 

“What is up? I thought that that was what I was supposed to say.” He says walking into my apartment.

“I meant the other thing, you called me your homo.” I can't help but laugh.

“I was under the impression it meant friend, is that incorrect? Did I just say something rude? I said it to Alex earlier and she laughed but didn't say anything about it.”

I laugh to myself again, “Of course she didn't.” 

“I really don't understand. Does homo not mean friend? Alex would have corrected me if i used the wrong word.” Brainy seemed a bit stressed, I hadn't meant to freak him out.

“I think the word you are looking for is homie, not homo.” I explain.

“Ah, I see. Well then why didn't Alex correct me? What does it mean?” 

“It is short for homosexual, meaning someone who is gay.” Brainy still seems a little bit confused. “Do you not have gay people from your time?” I ask seriously concerned.

“I am not sure what you mean? Is it a kind of alien? I don't recall anything about gays.” Brainy looks deep in thought.

I smile, taking another drink of juice, “It's not a kind of alien, it just means someone who likes the same gender as them. Do you honestly not have gay people in the future? That's terrifying.” I can't really imagine a world where Alex couldn't be herself.

“Oh no we have them, they just don't have specific labels, you guys are really big on labels here.” Brainy explained.

“Wait, so you just don't question it, there are no labels? You just like whoever you like? People don't just assume you're straight?” That actually sounds amazing, I know what it's like to have to hide a part of who you are from everyone, and while being an alien is different from being gay, coming out is hard. 

“I'm not quite sure what you mean by straight, however there really aren't assumptions, and the only labels people use the genders they are attracted to, and even then only sometimes. Do you guys have multiple labels? It just seems inconvenient.” 

“It is, and it's also really stressful for people who aren't sure who they like.” I say.

“You mean like how you are confused about how you feel for Lena?” I nearly choke on my drink. 

“I'm sorry, what?” I am definitely not confused about how I feel about Lena. I'm just in denial, and I would like to keep it that way.

“Is that not common knowledge?” He says calmly as ever.

“No, i have no idea what you're talking about.” I want to change the subject. “Do you guys not have labels for transgender people either?” 

“I actually know that one, I once heard some people bothering this lovely lady for it, so I did my research. In my time we don't need a specific label for that, it's just widely accepted. Why do you ask?”

“I'm just curious,” I was also partially asking for Nia, because I know how she feels about Brainy and how heartbroken she would be if Brainy were to be upset if he found out. 

Then there was a knock on the door. I quickly x-rayed the door to see who it was. “Speak of the devil,” I say opening the door to Nia.

“Was the devil spoken of?” Brainy questions.

I see Nia visibly stand up taller when she sees Brainy, but I can also see that she looks slightly disappointed to see him. “Nia how are you?” 

“I've definitely been better, but um, I was just coming to talk to you about a dream. I've actually been having trouble sleeping, but every time I close my eyes I have this dream.” Nia says still standing at my front door. 

“Well come on in, tell me about this dream.” I close the door behind Nia and we go sit in the living room with Brainy following closely behind us. 

“Well, every time I close my eyes I see the same thing. It's nothing overly terrible but I just see it so much that it haunts me.” She looks tired, Nia is always sleeping, I can't imagine how this is affecting her.

I set down my cup. “What is the dream?”

She takes a deep breath, “Well, I'm standing in the hospital hallway, and the vending machine falls on me. It hits me but I get out and I don't get crushed. But I don't understand it, why would I dream of having a vending machine fall on me?”

I don't know what to tell her, I don't have the answer she's looking for. But I guess I don't have to, as Brainy speaks up. “Was there any other details? Any clues that could help decode what the dream is warning us about.” 

“Um, I haven't really checked for small details,” Nia looks slightly ashamed. “Hold on,” Then she closes her eyes for a brief moment before they snap open. “The light in the hall is flickering, and when the machine hits the ground, a choco bar falls over by my foot. There are other candy bars too but that one is just more clear.”

None of that means anything to me, but it seems to mean something to Brainy. 

Brainy POV~

“Hospital hall, vending machine choco, lights flickering.” I list off. I see understanding cross Nia's face. 

She stands up, “Um, I should go,” she says.

“No, I am the one in the wrong here,” I say, I realize how tired Nia looks, and she looks thinner too, I can't imagine being the reason she can't sleep or eat. “I should be the one leaving.” I start to walk over to the door.

“I have absolutely no idea what is happening between you too right now. However I have a feeling this is something you two should talk o-” Kara was cut off by the sound of sirens. “You guys stay here and talk this out,” Kara sped over to her room then out the door. I guess she hadn't put her suit on under her clothes today. 

Nia looks at me wordlessly, she sits back down on Kara's couch. “I'm sorry, I made this weird, I should never have kissed you. I was so stupid.”

I feel a twisting in my gut, something I've never felt before, I would be rather upset if Nia had never kissed me, even if we can't be together. I sit down on the couch facing her. “Don't apologize, it wasn't stupid.” I say, I'm always right, but what if i was wrong this time? 

Nia looks at me confused, “It wasn't?” 

I'm not sure what to say now, I should have the answer, I always have the answer. Nia is doing something to me, I can't think straight. It's true that Nia and I can never be together, it would never work, but I can't shake the feeling of her lips on mine, her hands on my cheeks, and her telling me to listen to my gut. I know how i feel about intestinal inclination but maybe there is more to it “No, it wasn't stupid at all.”

Nia looks slightly confused, but she smiles anyway. “What are you saying?” She asks softly.

“I- I don't know.” It's true I still don't know, but I'm starting to doubt myself and regret my actions.

Nia POV~

“No one has ever made me feel this uncertain.” Brainy says twisting his ring around his finger anxiously.

I'm not sure how to respond to that, I don't want to make him feel uncertain, I want to make him feel safe and loved and supported. “I didn't mean to make you feel uncertain, I'm sorry.”

"It's nothing to apologize for, I've just never felt like this before." He says without looking up at me.

"Well how do you feel?" I know exactly how I feel, I feel bad about kissing him because it made things weird between us and I am mad at myself because I still want to kiss him again. However, I have no idea how he feels.

He takes a deep breath and looks up at me, "Honestly, I'm not quite sure. It's very unsettling because i am always certain, but right now i am just very confused. I don't want you to regret what happened at the hospital, I definitely do not." He doesn't regret it, that's good, but I'm sure there is more. "But there is a big part of me that is telling me that it could never work, I have seen first hand how relationships between those who work together work out, and it's not pretty." He looks sad, I really didn't mean to make him sad, I just want him to be happy.

"Brainy, do you like me?" I know that he's not great with subtlety so I figure the only way to get through this is to be direct.

"Well actually I believe that I am in love with you." He replies. That is not at all what I was expecting.

"Well," I'm at a loss for words, how do I respond to that. All I want to do is kiss him and cuddle up next to him but I know that that wouldn't be very fair of me. He thinks he loves me, but he thinks it'll never work. "What would you do if I kissed you right now?" It escapes me before I really process what I'm saying.

"There is an 89% chance that I would internally panic." He replies immediately.

"In a bad way?" I ask,

"No," He says. I move closer to him slowly, giving him time to pull away, then I lean in and kiss him. Brainy pulls back and meets my eyes, "make that 100%," he says softly.

I giggle, if I'm honest, i think i might be internally panicking as well. "If you think that it won't work out, then I'm going to respect that, I realize I didn't last time and I'm sorry. So I will respect whatever your decision is, but just keep in mind that number one, if you let doubt and fear hold you back, you won't get far and number two, even if it doesn't work out, we will still be friends." 

"Nia?" He whispers,

"Yes?"

"Can I kiss you?" He says louder this time.

"Definitely," I smile. He leans in and places one of his hands on my waist, which I must say, I really like. I'm really confused though, he said that we can't be together but he also just said he loves me and now he's kissing me on Kara's couch and good God i hope she doesn't come home yet. Brainy pulls away and looks into my eyes silently, I can't tell what he's thinking, but he looks so annoyingly adorable so I lean in and kiss him again.

"Nia?" Brainy whispers again as he pulls away.

"Yes?"

"Would you like to go out with me? On an actual date this time and not just an outing?" He looks as if he's expecting me to say no, I'm sitting here on our friends couch kissing him and he thinks I'd say no to go out with him, for a twelfth level intellect he's not very smart.

"Of course I'll go out with you Brainy," He looks relieved and surprised, honestly, sometimes he just baffles me. 

"Fantastic," he says cheerfully.

Then I kiss him again pushing him backward on the couch until he was laying down with me over him. But what I was not expecting was the gush of wind coming in the door that scared me so bad I fell off of Brainy and thumped onto the ground.

The gush of wind had been Kara as I realized as I stood up looking flustered. "What did I miss?" Kara says looking between Brainy who is still laying down on her couch and me now standing looking quite flustered.

"Oh nothing" 

"A lot," Brainy and I reply at the same time. Kara looks back and forth between us and just laughs. 

"Well since everything is fine at the DEO now and you two seem to be getting along would you like to stay and watch a movie? I could use the company," Kara offers. 

Brainy looks over at me questioningly and sits up, "I would enjoy watching a film with you," he said turning to Kara. 

"I think I could go for a movie too as long as you have popcorn," I say,

"Of course I have popcorn," She smiles.

Kara POV

I don't know if they think I don't notice that they are sitting closer together than usual or that they are holding hands even though they are trying to hide it. I just smile and look back to the TV. Then Nia stands up and walks to the door opening it as if she's expecting someone. Sure enough just then Lena pops up and smiles brightly at Nia. 

"I hope you don't mind that I stopped by, I was bored of being alone." She says walking into the apartment.

"Of course I don't mind, I love having you here. We were just watching a movie if you'd like to join us." Lena takes off her heels and walks over to sit next to me on the loveseat.

"I'd love that," She says. "Hello Brainy," she smiles over at Brainy.

"Hello Lena," He replies as Nia takes her seat next to him, I think even closer than last time.

Lena looks over at me with a questioning look and I just shake my head smiling.

We sat and finished the move together. I was expecting Nia to fall asleep on Brainy at some point, but somehow Brainy ended up falling asleep on Nia. I think Nia was as equally surprised as Lena and I. Brainy isn't one to let his guard down around others however I had noticed that he looked as if he hadn't been sleeping well or at all recently. So it's good for him to get some rest, and him lying on Nia's shoulder with his long hair covering part of his face is absolutely adorable and the little smile on Nia's face everytime she looks at him makes me happy. They both deserve this.

Ran Off in the Night (Part 5)

On his walk to the bus stop, Lucas had resigned himself not to see the guy again. It was clear he had no plans of being caught. It was still strange why the guy showed up in the common room when he had been completely gone the whole day. Or why he let Lucas meet his eyes. Lucas was still unsure if the guy even existed. If he was even real. If he had really seen him. Like he said, his tail had been completely silent the whole day. Lucas probably conjured him from say, desperation. 

His friends had also sensed his plummeting mood but made no comment. They didn’t even stop him when he told them he was heading home first, only giving pats, a side hug and another hair ruffle. Variations of “Take care, Lulu” following after him. He knew he had to tell them what was bothering him at some point. He just didn’t know how.

He should probably start out by coming out to them. The only thing stopping him was the gaping unknown that was their reactions. He knew they had no problem with it. He had seen the boys interact with Mika, and none of them had been aggressive. But what if? What if they weren’t okay with Lucas? What if it changed their friendship? What if they didn’t want to be friends with him anymore? What if? What if? What if?

And then, there was the thing with his ability. He wasn’t even sure he wants to tell the boys about it. Being, well, gay already separated him from most people. Lucas didn’t want anything more to put a divide between him and his friends. Plus, he didn’t want to put that kind of burden on them. He would rather have them living oblivious about the things in the dark than live the rest of their lives always looking over their shoulders and cultivating an amount of distrust for the world.

Like right now for example. He was just walking to the fucking bus stop of all things and yet he kept checking if someone was following him. If he had to avoid anyone to keep himself from any trouble. To be safe. And dammit, his tail for the past week had seriously made him more paranoid than ever. With a quiet frustrated huff, he stopped and stood in front of the shed and checked the schedule of the next bus.

As if the universe had heard his desperate plea, Lucas spots the guy just right across him.

A seed of doubt planted itself into his mind. Should he approach him? Or should he continue to ignore him? He had done for the better part of the week. Except, what if he poofs out of existence like well— like a ninja just when Lucas was so close? What if this was just a mirage? What if Lucas had been dreaming all this time?

With all these thoughts, Lucas came to one unchanging fact. He needed answers. He needed to know why he had been following him; why he had been watching him; why he was so familiar. He probably had an idea why Lucas’ memory had been spotty about Saturday evening. And honestly, if the guy was going to keep on tailing him, Lucas deserved to at least know who he was. Dream or otherwise. He was the only thing that made Lucas completely suspicious of his situation.

He took a deep breath and pursed his lips. Okay, he was actually doing this. Lucas approached silently, steps determined and tentative at the same time, as if he still can’t believe this was happening. Which pretty much summed up the whole of it. It wasn’t like he approached guys all the time. Figments of his imaginations or not, Lucas was shit scared when it came to seizing an opportunity. Especially right after the Yann debacle. (Come to think of it, he always somehow manages to develop a slight crush on guys linked to Emma. Fuck, he seriously has a problem.)

The guy remained unaware of Lucas. So, the brunette teen took this time to observe. He stood in front of the vending machine. His shoulders were hunched, fingers rubbing anxiously at his lips. His eyes stared at the machine with a look of deep contemplation—one more suitable for something philosophical rather than deciding what snack to choose. Then again, Lucas couldn’t blame him. The teen understood the great intricacies of choosing the right snack.

“Number 24 isn’t bad,” he heard himself suggest. Things happened too fast for Lucas to comprehend. One moment, he was staring at a broad back. The next thing he knew, he was facing the end of a blade. A weirdly glowy, wickedly sharp blade.

“Shit.” The guy’s eyes widened at the sight of him and Lucas tried not to move, fearing the blade would nick him. He flicked his wrist and the blade disappeared up into his sleeve. A movement so quick Lucas wondered if it even happened at all. A frown made an appearance on the guy’s face and Lucas can’t help but think how unfair it was that he still looked handsome. “You really can see me.”

“No shit, Sherlock.” Lucas blurted. His muscles were still tense. Body keyed to run at the first sign of danger. He could see the strange marks peeking under the guy’s shirt and Lucas latched onto the dumb stereotype of tattoos-equals-trouble. Not one of his proudest moments he knew, but give him a break. He just had a blade pointed at his face literal seconds ago. He was allowed to lose a few decent brain cells.

“You’re a mundane.” There was no bite to it. No hidden disdain. Lucas still found himself reacting negatively.

“Are you calling me boring? You don’t even know me!” He scowled at the guy and a spike of annoyance rose within him when he saw the guy’s lips twitch, trying to hold back a smile.

“No, I mean. You’re human,” he explained, tilting his head and Lucas wanted to pull those stupid messy locks. “Normal.” Like that made any more sense. Of course, Lucas was human. He just had this freaky ability that lets him see things other humans don’t. He was also getting tired of being referred to as mundane like he should know what that meant when they threw the term at him. It wasn’t like the dictionary provided any helpful answers. It didn’t hold the nuances of this other world that he was sorely missing.

He noted how the guy’s eyes sharpened. Face becoming shuttered as he took a step closer to Lucas. It happened in such a short span of time that the teen couldn’t even react. Suddenly, there was barely any space between them. And this close, Lucas becomes aware of how tall the guy really was. It rankled that he had to strain his neck to meet those eyes. Lucas could feel his breath on his cheek as he looked down at him. Stormy-greys eyes staring deeply into his. Roaming all over his face and seemingly seeing right through him.

“Or are you?” His voice was soft, sounding more of an exhale. “You’re certainly pretty enough to be one of the fae.” Lucas could practically feel the way the blush crept up his cheeks. “Or maybe you’re a warlock? You could easily glamour your mark that way. Your eyes certainly can’t be this blue to simply be human.” A finger brushed his cheekbone with the gentlest of touches and Lucas can’t breathe. “She certainly could have lied to keep you safe.” He added as an afterthought.

This was real. This was fucking real, his mind screamed. He could actually feel the touch. Feel his breath. Smell him, like the hoodie, a voice whispered. He smells like the hoodie!

“Are you actually flirting with me?” incredulity strained Lucas’ voice. His brain didn’t even try to comprehend the guy’s words. Too focused on the not so subtle compliments the guy was aiming at him. And the thought that I’m not dreaming. Oh god. Seriously, what the fuck?

A wide, bright smile broke across the expressionless face. Stormy-grey eyes brighten, the blue standing out more, and they dance with mirth. Lucas’ heart fluttered.

“Wouldn’t you want to know.” The guy took a step back, leaving the teen confused and bereft. “I have to go now Lucas. We’ve got a lot to talk about, but I can’t stay any longer. Don’t look for me, I’ll come find you.”

He uttered a surprised sound. “Oh, and here,” he reached for one of Lucas’ hand that held the strap of his bag in a death grip. He felt his hand loosening as the guy tucked something in it. He heard the crinkle of the wrapper before he could even look. His brows still rose all the same upon seeing the Crunchy Choco he had just been given him.

Before Lucas could say anything else, ask how the guy knew his name, someone interrupts them. He turned and Chloe was right there, smiling at him. His stomach turned. Anxiety instantly pumping through his system.

“Hi!” she said cheerily. Lucas reciprocated the pleasantries automatically, albeit lacking the same amount of enthusiasm Chloe was exhibiting. “You left without saying goodbye.”

Lucas fetched for a response that wasn’t, Kind of the plan since I don’t want to talk to you. And shuffled his feet. He twisted his head a bit, hoping to catch a glimpse of the mysterious stranger, but he wasn’t there anymore. Lucas wasn’t even surprised. Disappointment stirred heavily in his chest but he stomped on it quickly.

Chloe was still looking at him expectantly; she waited patiently for an answer Lucas could not provide. Not without offending her. And like Superman swooping in to save a hapless victim from being pancake on the ground, the bus pulled in. “Uh, that’s my bus. Bye Chloe,” he said and ran like a bat out of hell.

He didn’t even turn around. He just rushed into the open doors of the bus. He walked to the back, stopped at a seat in the second to the last row and pressed himself against the window. He let out a breath as the bus door closed and it lurched to drive away. He was finally able to breathe. Alone with his thoughts, his mind easily drifted to familiar stormy-grey eyes, that handsome face and the sound of his name being uttered by that voice.

He stared at the snack in his hands. As if it would summon the guy through sheer force of will. And lo and behold, it didn’t. He blew out a disgruntled sigh and proceeded to unwrap the treat. He bit into it with undeserved violence. It was unfair really. The guy knew his name and Lucas still had no idea who he was. All Lucas knew was he carried a strange blade, wore black clothes, sported strange tattoo-like marks on his skin and had a habit of stalking a sixteen-year-old boy, flirt with them and give them their favorite snack before disappearing all together. Again.

At least Lucas finally knew this was real. That he really hadn’t been imagining him. (It wasn’t like Lucas was that imaginative to come up with that face.)

I’ll come find you.

Stupid Teumessian fox. Paradox be damned, he wasn’t going to just sit here and wait. He still needed answers. Lucas was going to catch himself a sneaky, smooth fucker if it’s the last thing he had to do.

Ten minutes later, Lucas realized he got on the wrong bus. 

Somewhere above, the stars were laughing at him.

“Let me help you, please.”

She finds himcrying.

“Brainy?” Karaasks, keeping her voice as soft and gentle as possible, as she sits down besidehim. “What’s wrong?”

“Too much.”

He keeps his facehidden from her at first, but soon lowers his hands when she touches hisshoulder.

“Let me help you,please.” she says.

“No. You don’tneed to deal with my burdens.”

Kara sighs.

“I might not, butI want to.” She says. She wants to keep trying, convincing him with just herwords, but she spies a vending machine and an idea sparks.

“Hey.” She continues.“Do you have a favorite snack that I can get for you? Just, hypothetically.”

Brainy looks up ather, giving her the smallest of smiles.

“Now that youmention it… I would like a pack of those… what do you call them, Chocos? J’onnintroduced me to them while we were working in his office.”

“Really?”

“Yes.” He says. “Imay like them even more than pizza.”

“Okay.” Karaanswers. “I’ll get you some Chocos.”

She returns, aminute later, with the cookies- and as the two of them sit silently together,Brainy offers her one.

Then, after histhird Choco, he starts explaining.

And by the time he’sdone, they’ve hugged four times, cried five, and eaten that many packs ofChocos, which was probably a bad idea for anyone other than the two of them.

Even so, however,both of them have to admit that they’re starting to heal.

Cutie Reviews: Tokyo Treat November 17

Hello! Welcome to another review :3 This one was kind of put off for a few days unintentionally as usual. I have not been having a good weekend. I spent the first half of it in the emergency room and being bed ridden, My broken T-key was giving me grief and being a pain until I managed to fix it, and I cut my finger on the grater and it took off a good layer of skin and hurts like crazy... 

This months theme is... Flavorful Thanksgiving Feast!

Okay so like usual I forgot to take pics of the items obtained in the Lucky Treat box for the month. I don’t know why that keeps happening lately but here’s a list instead:

The special featured of the booklet details the special event known as Shichi-Go-San, celebrating Children the ages of 3, 5, and 7. As well as the best locations to admire Autumn foliage in Japan. The prize items for the month were Dr. Slump and Dragonball themed.

Before I get to the contents I wanted to mention that I noticed something in the booklet changed. The once “mysterious“ Dagashi Mix section now reveals what you get! This would have normally bugged me, but I never look in the book until after I see what I got, so I can still avoid spoilers~

Alrighty, so these are our misc items of the crate: The drink, the DIY candy, the mystery toy or charm or accessory. I plan on covering the DIY candy next, but for now let’s focus on our cute drink and accessory item~

Our Drink is the delicious looking Kirin Chocolate Mint Milk Tea. I believe we had milk tea by this brand before, and it was pretty good last time so I had high hopes; especially since I ♥ anything mint-chocolate!

Ironically, while I don’t like milk or tea, I’ve been enjoying milk tea as of late. I especially love this Kirin brand, with their eye-catching and fun designs. The flavor was light, and it made me think of a sugar-free melted chocolate ice cream with mint flavoring. I really liked it- but I do wish it was stronger in taste.

Besides, the drink we also got this cute Gudetama Magnet, based on various egg dishes. I got this before in a prior box, but that one was animal themed :3 I really like sushi, so the one I got was perfect!

It’s not a food, but is is Gudetama. I love mystery/blind bag items like this too and I love finding them in the Tokyo Treat box. It’s fairly common and I appreciate it since it’s a lot more rare in the other ones.

These are two of the Regular items in the booklet, including some Super Light Rice Crackers, the Wagashi item for the month made from White Rice found in Niigata. They are light and airy with a melting texture, and are flavored with a mixture of soy sauce and ginger.

They’re also gluten free, but 240 calories as a whole. I’m not really complaining though ;3 sometimes we need to indulge.

These are very yummy, and while I could taste a little bit of the ginger and soy sauce, the flavor combination also reminded of chili oil, minus the spice. The rice didn’t really have an identifiable taste, but that is a bit common with rice-based snacks. With these, we have the Sapporo Multi-veggie Sticks by Calbee. These fun little sticks boasts usage of SEVEN vegetables Σ(��口･) Including red pepper, pumpkin, spinach, carrot, red beet... and I’m guessing potato, tomato, and/or onion. Neither lists really go into detail about all seven. They’re a total of 116 calories. Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ Usually I like vegetable-themed chips or snacks. As much as I’m not a huge fan of vegetables themselves. I also generally like this brand; but I’m not a big fan of this particular blend. At first they weren’t so bad, they tasted like a plain potato. But now they kind of taste yucky O x < ‘ The plus side is, I do know that you can actually make a potato dish using stuff like this and a few other ingredients. A youtuber I like tried it out once so I might see if there’s something I can do with these.

Well you know what they say, Chocolate makes everything better! And here we got some fun looking chocolate~♥

In order we have Choco Flakes Crisp Balls - Kinako, Kinako is a roasted soy flour that can be found on various sweets, mainly during Autumn/Fall to add a bit of a sweet and nutty flavor. Choco Flakes is a crisped cereal coated in flavored chocolate, and 267 calories!

Kinako is also what I keep claiming my Squishies smell like. If they don’t smell like rubber, this is that exact scent. I don’t know how, and I don’t know why- but it is.

These are very tasty x3 That’s really all I have to say about them though. I really enjoyed them, although I was perturbed by the large Calorie amount...

Speaking of high calories, we also get some Double Fromage Pocky! Premium or “special pocky“, which is pretty much just a smaller pocky with 3.2x more chocolate, both whipped and milk. Fromage meanwhile, is basically a fancy word for cheese, and the stick itself is chocolate, giving it a delicious and elegant twist.

Each stick is 120 cal. Something else I like is that you get three, individually wrapped packs in this box. Perfect for keeping them fresh, or gifting to someone special~

The stick itself is pretty plain (but that is common with pocky), but the thick layer of coating blends in with it wonderfully and totally redeems it. It kind of reminded me of cookies and cream, with a hint of sweet cheese-flavor.

Lastly is this big, eye-catching Giant Chocolate Snack! This crazy looking stick is bigger then a drink bottle- and it comes in a colorful, cool looking wrapper!

Despite it’s size it is very light and airy feeling, and apparently made from peanut and corn puffs and is very light in texture. Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥

It didn’t taste bad at all, but it’s not really my sort of thing. Like texture wise it was really nice, but when I ate it I noticed it was really bitter tasting, and not in a good way like dark chocolate.

Keeping with the sweets theme, we have two pink candies, including a twisty Twisted Marshmallow that was available in a variety of colors- but tasted like plain marshmallow no matter which type you got.

I’m obsessed with marshmallows! This was ultra-soft and stretchy and squishy, I couldn’t help but play with it before eating it~

The other item is something I’ve had before in two other flavors (Soda and Fruit blend), but seeing this vibrant pink tube got me veeeeeeery excited! This is the brand new Strawberry Ramune by Morinaga.

I’ve been a big fan of these cute bottle candies since I tried my first one, and this flavor didn’t disappoint. It tastes like any other Japanese strawberry candy, and the container is a great way to keep them protected- and it looks adorable~

You know, I almost feel like this crate was catered for me this month- Strawberry candies, mint-chocolate milk tea, a yummy rice snack, and now TWO cola candies?!

We have a Cola Gummy, as well as these Vending Machine Cola Gummies ♥ Two similar, but very different gummy candies.

The Cola Gummy is a decently sized gummy covered in sugar for a total of only 39 calories. As you can see in the picture, it’s wider and bigger then the biggest gummy in the vending machine pack!

Ratings: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ 

The cola gummy is pretty tasty at first, it reminded me of my favorite cola gummies, or the chupa chups cola lollipops. But days later when I finished it, I noticed the flavor remained for about five seconds- then started to taste a little gross. So it’s perfectly fine if you eat it within the time span of opening it!

I also don’t like that was it really hard DX it reminded me of those soft jelly gummies, but it did not match in texture.

Meanwhile, the vending machine set says it is 73 calories PER gummy, or pack. I can’t really tell. It’s by a brand I’ve seen before who made some other cola candies I haven’t been able to find myself. 

Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ 

I really like the fun design inspiration for this pack ♥ You have cans, drinking bottles, large cans, and larger drink bottles. The flavors also vary like most cola candies, in that the yellow/clear part is usually pineapple or lemon flavored, while the brown is cola. and I noticed they are still really soft and taste good a week or two after opening them.

Ironically, while this set is more fun and held up a lot better then the other one, I think the flavor for the other gummy (before it went south) was better.

Of course you can’t celebrate the last bit of Fall/Autumn without including some fun sweet potato snacks. Calbee returns with these Osatsu Snacks, made from steamed and baked Anno sweet potato. This is a special flavor, in that you can only get it during the cold seasons.

(Fun bit of Trivia, Osatsu celebrated their 35th anniversary last year!)

These fun, scallop-looking chips are light and crispy, and they essentially just tasted like regular potato chips with a touch of sweetness. They were pretty nice.

I know, you’re all probably observing that strange jelly looking stuff right? You’re not the only ones, I was perplexed by the Baked Sweet Potato Yokan too.

A Yokan is a jelly-like snack usually made from red beans and often included chestnuts. I noticed it seems to be a lot more “common“ during cooler seasons, and I’ve also seen potato variations such as this, and purple. The snack has a jelly texture, but consistency of beans.

It’s... unique. I’ll put it like that. It’s not bad though, it tastes like a buttery potato and is really, really sweet. In terms of personal opinion I’m sort of in the middle with it, I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it. It’s unusual, but it was fun to try!

(I was actually tempted to see if I could melt this down and put it on bread, just to see what it was like. . . . but I decided against it when I thought it would have disgraced the efforts someone put into making it. I know I’m weird.)

Of course, despite how good a box is, there’s always one or two snacks that leave you feeling like “they’re okay...“ or “ew!“. That’s part of the experience though :3

The first one is a Yakisoba Sauce Snack composed of small puffs (rice or barley I assume), and snacking noodle pieces.

I’m not a bit Yakisoba fan, I’ll admit that now. The packaging is adorable, and if you like stuff like this you get a big amount of it in the little bag (it’s like the smaller the bag, the fuller it is, am I right?). I liked the little puffs, but in general the flavor was too strong for me and I didn’t really like it.

I did have someone who did though, so it made a nice surprise snack for them later.

This other snack fared a little better, not because I like squid- but some squid things aren’t terrible and I try to give them a chance. This is a bag of SQUID CRACKERS!

This is a savory, fried snack- and I know that probably sounds like heaven right now. Well in comparison to other squid snacks I tried and disliked, it kind of was. The texture was sort of a mix between crispy and crunchy, and while I ate it with no problem, I wasn’t too crazy about the underlying squidiness/sea food flavor I was picking up.

I will say that it’s on the lighter side though, so if you’re a fan of those flavors it might be too light. For me personally it was just enough.

We’re down to our final two items of the November crate :D We have Mild Roast flavor Pretz featuring a character I’ve seen before but I’m not familiar really with. I see him and his friends on a lot of stuff, but it’s not a series I‘m familiar with.

Each stick or pack in total is 114 calories.

These are really good. What I enjoy about Pretz is that they are essentially a savory/alternate pocky. They’re crispy but a light snack, and there’s tons of flavor varieties.

These taste like a plain pretz stick (which is already hard for me to describe) with a light buttered taste, like snacking crackers. After everything else in the crate I tried though, it was a welcoming addition.

As usual we also get a monthly Umaibo, this time the flavor was Cheese! Rarely do I ever find an Umaibo I dislike, and of course this was no exception. I mean come on, it’s CHEESE flavored ;3

Now I can’t say I loved it more then the corn potage flavor, because that one is the ultimate champion of Umaibo. But it was definitely in the top 10! It tasted like most other crispy, airy cheese puffed snack I’ve eaten.

Quality - 4 out of 5. I don’t think I had anything bad to remark upon this time, and for the price paid I believe it was fair. The box was fine, and I loved the adorable bonus item.

Content - 4 out of 5. It wasn’t perfect, but I really enjoyed it. We got a nice blend of sweet and savory, which I prefer and find more enjoyable then just one type of thing.

Theme - 4 out of 5. Most of the stuff definitely made me think of Fall/Autumn. I can’t say I thought of Thanksgiving, although the potato stuff did kind of remind me of the Holiday. I know they could have done even more to make the theme better.

Total Rank: 12 out of 15 Cuties. I’m not sure if I preferred this box to any in particular. It was definitely good, maybe even great- but I know they could have also made it a little bit better in terms of theme- although I don’t think it was necessary. I fairly enjoyed everything the two things I wasn’t in love with still scored decently.

8. Osatsu Snack - These were tasty, but the flavoring was a little light in them. I didn’t hate them at all though, sometimes you need the light sweetness to balance out all the stronger flavors.

9. Twisted Marshmallow - Same as below, again. Delicious and kawaii, but nothing different. I adore marshmallows though so I’m not really complaining.

10. Cheese Umaibo - Same as below, it was delicious but nothing new or exciting. 

11. Mild Roast Pretz - I actually really liked these :3 but they were fairly plain in comparison to the rest of the items. 

12. Giant Chocolate Snack -  It wasn’t bad either, It just wasn’t my thing you know? I don’t like peanuts much and it wasn’t the type of bitter I enjoy. 

13. Sweet Potato Yokan - I didn’t hate it, I didn’t love it. It was sweet and buttery.  

14. Squid Crackers - Meh. They weren’t bad honestly.

15. Veggie Sticks - They weren’t bad, but they were kind of bland in my opinion...

16. Yakisoba Sauce Snack - I’m sorry, I just don’t like it!

I still have 2 November boxes I need to cover before I can move on to December- but I plan to hurry up and do the DIY candy review first since it won’t take nearly as long to do.

Tokyo Treat

Tokyo Treat is a monthly Japanese snack subscription box shipped straight from Tokyo. They recently revamped their subscription service, and they now offer two sizes (the Small option is gone). There’s the Classic for $22.50-$25 and the Premium for $31.50-$35. The cheaper prices are for prepaid plans.

The boxes now contain new items and item amounts, increased variety, and a digital zine instead of a printed copy. If you want to read about all the changes to their boxes and website please click here. There is also information for those who currently have a Small monthly or prepaid plan.

The Classic box will now include these 12 full sized items: 4 popular Japanese snacks, 4 sharable packs, 2 dagashi, 1 DIY kit, and 1 kinosei snack. The Premium box includes 17 full sized items: 5 popular snacks, 1 party pack, 4 sharable packs, 3 dagashi, 1 Anime snack, 1 DIY kit, 1 kinosei snack, and 1 Japanese drink. The first box to include these changes will be December. I think the new direction is great, and I’m excited to see the new box!

The November Premium box doesn’t have the new changes (it starts in December), so I received a physical zine titled “Flavorful Thanksgiving Feast.” The zine, as always, is designed extremely well. There’s content about the box, social media, contests, DIY kit instructions, and Japanese culture. The box was packed perfectly full, with no wasted space. The Premium box always includes a DIY kit and drink!

Pocky Double Fromage

These special Pocky have 3.2x the chocolate than the normal snack. The busicut stick is chocolate, and it’s coated in a thick layer of cheese chocolate. The chocolate almost tastes like cream cheese frosting! These were super good, and very appropriate for November since 11/11 is Pocky Day!

Morinaga Strawberry Ramune

A classic Japanese candy, these little ramune tabs are strawberry flavored. I liked how they melt in your mouth and the bright strawberry flavor. The little bottle is cute too.

Calbee Osatsu Snack

Sweet potatoes are a popular fall flavor here in Japan, so these are a great choice. My husband really liked these puffed snacks! The flavor is light and the chips are very airy.

Dagashi Mix

This is a mix of snacks, kinda like Japan’s “penny candy.” It’s like the nostalgic candy you bought when you were younger because it’s cheap. (I love that Tokyo Treat includes a mix of dagashi and counts it as one snack—other boxes often include dagashi as single items, which I think lowers the value.) Dagashi is always fun, and this month includes an Umaibo Cheese, Cola Gummy, Twisted Marshmallow, Baked Sweet Potato Yokan, and Yakisoba Sauce Snack. My favorite was the Yakisoba snack! It was crunchy with a savory and salty sauce flavor.

Choco Flakes Crisp Balls – Kinako

I’ve had the regular Choco Flakes before, but I’ve never tried the ball shape or kinako flavor. Kinako is roasted soybean power, and it has a toasty, nutty, flavor that’s really grown on me since moving to Japan. These little balls are super good—not too sweet, crunchy, and with a unique flavor. I would buy these again!

Super Light Rice Crackers

These airy crackers are made with rice from Niigata prefecture and flavored with dashi and ginger. These were one of my favorites. They melt in your mouth, but they still have a strong, savory flavor of dashi soy sauce and a little ginger zing. You get a hint of seaweed taste from the dashi too.

Giant Chocolate Snack

This long snack is a peanut and corn puff stick coated in milk chocolate. It was way lighter than I expected. Peanut butter and chocolate is always a great combination, and sometimes difficult to find in Japan! So, I really enjoyed this.

Vending Machine Cola Gummies

These cola gummies come in a tray that looks like a Japanese vending machine! It’s a very cute idea, and it’s fun to peel the gummies out of the tray.

Sapporo Multi-Veggie Snacks

These little potato sticks are made with seven types of vegetables, and have a good crunch to them. They aren’t as greasy as other potato stick/chip snacks, which is nice.

Kirin Chocolate Mint Milk Tea

I was a little nervous to try this drink, since milk tea is still something I’m trying to like! It’s very popular here in Japan. I do really love chocolate mint flavors though, which I think helped me to like this milk tea more than others I’ve tried! I also think this is a great choice as a featured snack, since it is a unique drink.

DIY Pokemon Sun and Moon Soft Candy Kit

This super cute DIY kit lets you make candy Pokemon! Each kit comes with a mold of 2 Pokemon, which you press soft candy into. (The zine has the instructions in English.)  I got Litten and Pikachu! The strawberry and lemon candy actually taste pretty good, and you can keep and reuse the molds if you’re crafty.

Squid Crackers

These are fried squid crackers with a good crunch. The squid taste isn’t overwhelming, and these would be a good introductory snack for people who aren’t fans of seafood.

Gudetama Rubber Magnet

This month’s special item is a Gudetama magnet! I love magnets and this lazy egg character, so I was happy to see this item. I got a sliced egg design, and I think he’s saying something like “I’m completely giving up.” (スッパリあきらめよう . . .)

Pretz Mild Roast Flavor

Pretz are a popular Japanese snack, and this type has a mild roast flavor and added calcium. It’s a very mild snack, and I think they might be good dipped in Nutella or peanut butter!

This month’s Tokyo Treat was great! My favorites were the Pokemon DIY kit, Choco Flakes Crisp Balls, and Super Light Rice Crackers.

The selection of snacks feels very balanced, but still exciting. Tokyo Treat has always been one of my favorite Japanese snack boxes, and that still stands. Now that I live in Japan, it’s nice to see a box full of snacks that I would want to send my friends and family. It feels very authentic, and I like that they include cultural information too.

Their variety and quality stand out, using full sized treats and well-known brands. Nothing feels like filler. Plus, the design of their website and zine are cheerful and engaging. The drink included in the Premium box is also a big selling point—I don’t know of any other box that includes a bottled beverage.
