so much Mayday stuff (& a smidgeon of Vinyl City worldbuilding) in my head. ooouugghh. wrote this at 12am last night and i'm not the best at articulating my thoughts so forgive me as this wooonnt be the most polished. this is likee a mini conglomeration of personal headcanons and a bit of analysis (reading too far into things) ... i just wanna talk about her REEEAALLL BAAADDDD
i've always thought of Mayday as someone so deeply intertwined with Vinyl City (specifically the working-class & lower-class areas; the 'little guys') that her dream of becoming a big famous rockstar also stems from a desire for agency/power. power to be able to do SOMETHING in the name of her communities after personally living through, like, 2 decades of neglect—condemned by NSR to live in the shadow of the more tourist-oriented/commercial/profitable parts of the city—even if it means rising to charterhood under the same stupid record label that's the source of all her problems in the first place ...
i also like to believe this, in tandem with her rumbustious nature, is why Mayday IMMEDIATELY switches to aggression (dare i call it a TV meltdown...?) following her & Zuke's flames being so harshly snuffed out during the Lights Up Audition.
Mayday was probably warned beforehand by the adults around her about the EDM bias. i think she ignored/dismissed every warning/dissuasion because she believed in herself and her ability and her principles too unshakably for her own good. and then for the judges (particularly Tatiana) to unanimously strike her dream down like that, thus proving their warnings right & her hard work (and ignorance) in vain... FURY!!!! (Mayday is NOT the best at taking losses with grace)
and then the banning of Rock from the Lights Up Audition happens. and then the subsequent blackout and diversion of energy happens. and seeing the extent of what happens across the city with her own eyes from atop the ledge (after being limited to her own ground-level experiences on the outside, looking inward) is what finally tips her over the edge and into the vat of a full-blown revolution.
semi-related, but i also view Mayday's hatred towards EDM as. like. a general prejudice. it goes a bit deeper than just Not liking the sound/style; she associates it with NSR, and therefore links it with everything wrong with Vinyl City. rock music, a dying art in the era being upheld by her tightly-knit community, untouched by NSR, to her is authenticity.
she also loathes the "Order leads to progress in Vinyl City." slogan because, to her, order means complacency... and complacency has done shit all for anyone she knows. ("If chaos is what is needed to get things done around here, so be it!")
i know i'm kind of bouncing back to the second paragraph but. like. there's just something so dear to me about the idea of a Mayday whose a roving city girl from off the streets... armed with her guitar, her passion, and her support system, doing everything she can to prevent rock—her home—from becoming irrelevant. always chasing a fantasy about being something bigger than herself. even if the odds are stacked against her. even if Mayday's own impetuosity is a double-edged sword that impedes her just as much as it enables her.
to me she's. like. a melting pot of ambition and stubbornness and righteousness and naievite. Mayday girl i love you SOOOOOO SOOOOOOOOO MUCH ideally i would put this all into a legitimate form of writing like a backstory fic or something but gah i don't even know where to START
#no straight roads#'you into mayday?' Don't even joke lad.#even what i typed here isn't the full extent of it duuude#and this isn't even HALF of everything#i have yet to discuss my many haphazard thoughts concerning her family.#and my thoughts regarding how growing up in her circumstances has affected her for the better and for the worse#and my thoughts regarding how the theory of nsr taking place in 2006 is so PERFECT#and my thoughts regarding her relationship with kul fyra#and my thoughts regarding h#YOU GET MY POINT#DONT EVEN JOKE LAD#nsr mayday#nettsy rambling#i hope my interpretation of her makes sense#kind of thankful mayday is canonically a blank slate#other than her grandmama & the implications that she grew up in vinyl city#cuz it allows us to literally do whatever

Ooooh, Goolings Headcanons.
• The Band.
They are all based in the element of fire, all of them showing it in different.
All of the members went to the same high school had a history as social outcasts and trouble makers.
They were eventually expelled from College because of being suspects to an arson related crime in the building.
Immediately after, they named their band the Goolings, though they would have no serious gigs until a few years later.
Their talent and take on Rock would lead them on in the bill boards of Vinyl City and have them as the lead provider of energy in NSR.
They used to have another second guitarist before Erta, her name was Lisa, however things didn't work out and at the end she was let go because of an scandal involving her and Fyra.
Most of the members would go their separate ways after the disbanding, Tatiana being the only one who stayed in Vinyl City.
• Kul Fyra.
So obviously she is the lead, not because she has the most talent out of everyone, but because she has the strongest fire, and they just thought she would make the band look and be ‘cooler’
Before making the Goolings her full-time work, she studied Business in university, though her real passion was in music.
She never took a leading role in the Goolings, and therefore lets the other members make the entire decisions.
Even when Rico is the most relaxed in the group, Fyra never reached high levels of angers, always wanting to show more positivity and kindness.
She loved children and all of her fans, never doubting in wasting 4 hours just taking pictures or signing autographs.
Her favourite fan was Kliff.
She never spent large amounts of time with him, but she loved his enthusiasm.
Everyone in the band knew that her name was Tatiana, but she hated it, so nobody called her that.
• Ash.
They were the band's lead singer and bassist, they made most of the decisions in the band, even if some of them were bad.
Gets no real respect from the public as much as Kul Fyra does, this would lead to jealousy and regret in making her the lead guitarist.
They are polyamorous and non-binary.
They instigated most of the band's fights and threatened to leave the band in more than one occasion.
They take out fire in the same way as Kul Fyra, and it concentrates mostly in their hair, however they lacks the same potency as Fyra, and is seen as the weakest fire elemental out of the band.
• Rico.
Turns late to every rehearsal but at least he keeps his cool.
Not really bothered by the drama the band's gets itself into every week, usually is for this reason that Ash takes most of their anger out on him.
He is the drummer of the band, and regarded as the greatest in Vinyl City.
However, because of his fire mostly concentrating in his hands his drum set was replaced a total of 56 times.
He thinks of relationships as problematic and too much of a bother to have.
Kul Fyra thinks of him as her best friend.
• Erta.
She's just chaos.
Many times the members tried to control her impulse to burn the entire stage and many times they failed.
As the second guitarist and only coming to the Goolings in it's last year she looks up to Fyra, having her being almost like a teacher to her.
Many times she would need to replace Fyra in the stage, and she never disappointed with her performance being as close to the lead's as possible.
She rejected Ash's feelings in more than one occasion.
• Barbara:
She's not really a member of the band, but more like an assistant manager, and got her job in the band after the Goolings had fired most of their technical and managing team.
Kul Fyra would hang around with her more as the tensions in the band increased, finding peace in talking with someone outside of the band.
She would call out Ash for their bad decision making, which would almost make her lose the job, but, Fyra always defended her.
She and Fyra would begin a long term relationship.
Fyra would propose to her, but it led to nothing as they would break up after the disbanding of the Goolings.
She continued her studies of journalism after the Goolings disbanded.
• ya boi' Kliff. (Or Kliffardus for my friends/j)
He is just standing there...
Kul Fyra thought of him as the weakest and smallest man in the world.
He would support Fyra “through thick and thin” though mostly by pushing her to continue with the Goolings even if she was tired of it.
Do I have to say he was affected by the break up? No, that's canon.
Rico hated him.
Ash thought of him as cute.
He had a hate/love relationship with Barbara where they would tolerate each other but get into verbal fights all the time.
He saw every gig and every concert the band made.
He had a crush on Fyra and confessed, though obviously it was rejected.
SO.
These are my headcanons.
Wow. I hope you like them.
I may post more prompts and headcanons as time goes on, even some drawings !
I'm excited for you all to see my take in this.
