Mr. Gaiman, I'm seriously burnt out. I grew up being constantly praised for my writing skills, but as I've grown older I feel like I've lost the ability to write. Especially in these last few months, words don't flow as naturally as they used to and I get caught up in stupid details, like spelling or grammar. The pressure from the adults in my life (and the school system, obviously) has caused me to lose my passion for writing. I feel, for once in my life, basically illiterate. I'm uninspired-beyond uninspired, even. All of my work feels derivative, and when I do write, like now for example, it's almost by a kind of muscle memory. It's scary, I've been told by my parents that writing is the only thing I have going for me. Mediocre grades, a 'meh' resume: I have nothing else under my belt. And that was okay. That used to be okay, because I knew that they were right. I was good, I was winning poetry contests and filling up notebooks with pretentious, tweenage musings. I was writing incredible songs every single day. I was churning out essays, and vignettes with a kind of consistency I would never dream of even attempting to recreate. But I burnt out, slowly. I didn't notice it, until it became so unbearable I couldn't disregard it anymore. Everything I write is awful. My essays are ramble-y and disorganized, all my songs sound the same. I sit down with the intention of writing something and I stare at that stupid, flickering google-doc mouse icon for hours before giving up completely. I feel dumb. I feel like a shitty replication of someone I used to be. I'm just pretending to be that smart, motivated person. Writing was my whole identity. It was what made me me. So what the am I supposed to do now? What if I can't find that passion again? How do I stop feeling like a fraud?
Maybe you just ran out of things to write about. Stop writing and go and do some living, and find other things to enjoy and other things to make. Get your heart broken. Get fired from a job or two. And one day you'll wake up and have lots of things to say and lots of things to write.

Happy Birthday Ian Anderson, born 10th August 1947 in Dunfermline. After attending primary school in Edinburgh, his family relocated to Blackpool in 1959. Following a traditional Grammar school education, he moved on to Art college to study fine art before deciding on an attempt at a musical career. He was influenced by his father’s big band and jazz records and the emergence of rock music, but was disenchanted with the “show biz” style of early American rock and roll stars like Elvis Presley. In 1963 with some school friends he formed his first band The Blades, a soul and blues outfit. In 1965 they regrouped into The John Evan Band with major lineup changes. They disband two years later when Anderson moved to Luton. In his new surroundings, Ian meets the drummer Clive Bunker and the guitarist Mick Abrahams and with Glenn Cornick, a bassist - of The John Evan Band-, Anderson creates the seed of the group that would become the legendary Jethro Tull. Still enjoying a lengthy if intermittent ongoing career, Jethro Tull has released 30 studio and live albums, selling more than 60 million copies since the band first performed at London’s famous Marquee club. After undertaking more than 3000 concerts in forty-something countries throughout four decades, Tull has played typically 100 concerts each year to longstanding, as well as new fans worldwide. Widely recognized as the man who introduced the flute to rock music, Ian Anderson remains the crowned exponent of the popular and rock genres of flute playing. So far, no pretender to the throne has stepped forward. Ian also plays ethnic flutes and whistles together with acoustic guitar and the mandolin bouzouki, balalaika, saxophone, harmonica, and a variety of whistles. I briefly met Ian on Skye in 1987 on my way back from Benbecula where he had an estate and ran a Fish farm, well 11 fish farms as my research has unearthed, he also employed over 400 people before selling it in the 90’s. Anderson recalled in an interview how he started as a flautist… “ once owned a 1960s Fender Stratocaster, which had previously belonged to Lemmy Kilminster before he found fame with Motorhead. But when it dawned on me I was never going to catch up with the growing band of hotshot British guitarists at that time – Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton – I traded it in for a Selma Goldfield student flute worth £30. I knew Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton didn’t play the flute, so I thought I would be in with a chance. A lot of people told me it was a ridiculous trade because the Strat was worth at least £150. But in fact it was a great buy because learning to play it was the start of Jethro Tull.” Anderson lives on a farm in the southwest of England where he has a recording studio and office. He has been married for 37 years to Shona who is also an active director of their music and other companies. They have two children. In 2006 and 2010, he was awarded Doctorates in Literature from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh and the Abertay University of Dundee. He received the Ivor Award for International Achievement in Music. Ian admits he owns no fast car, never yet having taken a driving test, and has a wardrobe of singularly uninspiring and drab leisurewear varying from light grey to black in colour. He still keeps a couple of off-road competition motorcycles, and a saxophone which he promises never to play again.
Our birthday boy likes to play more intinate venues rather than grand halls, I noticed in the past he has played in religious buildings like cathedrals, he said in an interview ‘Playing in a cathedral gives you a sense of history, responsibility, and humility’ He seems a man after my own heart, while I am not a religious man I do get this same feeling when visiting these sites.. It's not about profits for Jethro Tull, again I have posted that he doesn't charge over the top prices for his tickets, and when he plays in historical places he gives back….The profits from the sales of tickets for my Christmas concert in Bristol Cathedral will go to the upkeep of these sacred buildings, and, perhaps, also in support of the musical liturgy of the church.
Ian admits that he is responsible for an enormous carbon footprint over the years —" I’m a climate sinner — but I’ve planted over 50,000 mixed deciduous trees on our farm. Its heavy clay isn’t not capable of producing arable crops. At best, it grows grass for grazing, but some margins aren’t suitable; so we’ve extended our ancient woodlands with many oak trees. They are an emblem of the Anderson-family clan, whose legend is “Stand sure”.
Jethro Tull are playing Bristol Cathedral on December 11th, tickets are £25-45 snd Salisbury Cathedral next day. These dates are sandwiched between a European tour.
The video features the song, Dun Ringill, from the group's 1979 album Stormwatch, it is an ode to the Iron Age-era fort of the same name. The fort, located on the coast of the Isle of Skye in Scotland, was occupied by the Clan Mackinnon for centuries.[1] The ruins of Castle Ringill, located near Loch Slapin, were located on Anderson's Scottish property, thus inspiring him to write the song. Anderson explained: " Dun Ringill" [is] about the ruins of an old hillside in the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of Scotland, where Nordic invaders would have landed to pillage and plunder and the local folk would have hidden the women and children and the sheep under fortifications.
It's a cool video, pity it was filmed at Dover rather than on Skye though!

I finally watched Wish. And I gotta say, it's not as bad as people say it is. Don't get me wrong, it's not good by any means. But it's still not so awful I felt frustrated and sick to my stomach after watching it. But it's also not so bad it's good to the point where it becomes a guilty pleasure for me like the live-action Bratz movie. It's just...bad. But not horrible. It had potential. It COULD'VE been good if the writers actually gave a single damn, and knew what they were doing. Or, alternatively, if they simply spent a few more hours on the damn movie. But alas, they did not, and since we're in the bad timeline, this is what we got. The music is what really weighs it down, with just about every song being meaningless, badly-written, and having terrible grammar/confusing metaphors that don't hold up under a microscope or even make any sense at all, really. The only thing stopping them from being completely insufferable is the fact that the actors are legitimately good singers, making it a crying shame that none of them weren't given better material to work with.
The characters themselves, though, are unfortunately very boring, one-dimensional, and contradictory/confusing in their writing. The setting, plot, and worldbuilding are all very bland and haphazard as well, to the point where I actually laughed out loud during the climactic scene at the end where the king brutalizes Asha with his evil magic. It was that ridiculous! The side characters, both human, animal, and star, were all boring and pointless(except for the Star ig) and I really have a bone to pick with Gabo especially. He goes from thinking that Asha killed her family(for no reason, mind you) to shaming Simon for being a bad friend and betraying Asha to the king, both in the SAME SCENE!!! It's like...all of the characters are this inconsistent honestly.
And I don't buy that people would be happy to "forget without regret" when it comes to their wishes. It just makes no sense to me. The writers should've come up with a better excuse for why the people of Rosas put their faith in the wishing system rather than "they forget what they wanted in the first place but are totally all right with that!" especially when Asha acts like this is a new revelation. Like come on, guys, you work at Disney! Give us something! But they gave us nothing. Because they are lazy. A shame.
Also the costumes in this movie were boring and bland af, and everything was really monochrome and lifeless. It definitely fails in comparison to the costume designs in Encanto, The Princess and the Frog, and even Tangled. Everything just feels so dull, cheap, lazy, and uninspired. Though I do like Asha's design aside from her outfit, she is very pretty and it's sad what this movie does to her. This movie in short didn't feel like a Disney 100 Anniversary. In fact, it didn't even feel like a Disney movie at all. It felt like a student film that was inspired by Disney, or like those direct to video films made for really little kids that have a low budget and even lower-quality CGI. Just a massive disappointment. I'm afraid that Disney is no longer the gold standard of animation that it used to be. Oh well. 😔
this is what really ticks me off about wish. I would be fine if it was just terrible if it ended up not being amazing or even good, but it’s mediocre. And that drives me INSANE because I see so much potential in the story and characters and the villains but they just let it bite the dust and left us with this infuriatingly mediocre movie that was supposed to be the 100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL FOR DISNEY! That’s supposed to be something fantastical and amazing and have that wow factor but it’s just so bland and it makes me angry. Also the fact that it was originally supposed to be traditionally animated but they changed that also makes my blood boil.

Holy crap???????
I very recently started reading (most?) of the stories you have wrote on Ao3 and I'm in love. Marry me?? I'll give you a plastic spider ring I got for 25 cents.
Anyways, I aspire to be an author and was mostly wanting to know, how do you continue??
I have so many little ideas that float in my mind and I don't know how to keep writing after getting through one paragraph.
-Turtle-shell anon.
Oh dear, unfortunately I'm sworn to only marry Danny Devito...
Okay, I've got a lot to say abt this apparently. I was originally just gonna write some quick tips and it somehow turned into a full essay lol
#5 is my top suggestion for anyone who's feeling uninspired or stuck. Stories are driven by their characters, so let them lead the way!
1. Write your ideas down as soon as you have them
I've got about five or six tiny notebooks stowed away in different places (purse, desk, bedside table, etc.), and as soon as I have any kind of story idea, I start writing it down as soon as I can, otherwise I tend to lose it or lose my enthusiasm abt it, and it's harder to keep steam later on. I do this with ideas for future stories, ideas for dialogue five chapters from now, random descriptions of scenes, just literally anything that pops into my head.
Like dream journaling makes your dreams more vivid, the more you write down your ideas, the more ideas you'll start having! It's like unclogging a dam.
Also, physical writing is always better for me than typing when I get stuck because kinetic movement engages the brain more, so I have a few full size journals too to write longer ideas in.
2. Start stories even if you know you won't finish them
Writing is like a muscle. The more you use it, the more stamina you build up. So starting on stories, even if you don't know where you're going or know you won't finish is still productive because you're exercising that muscle and making it stronger. And who knows? Maybe you'll come back years later and finish this story brilliantly!
3. Download WriteorDie2
Write or Die is a horrific torture device for writers, but it is genuinely helpful for me to power through pointless writer's block or procrastination stints. Even when I feel completely uninspired, suddenly I find I'm full of ideas when threatened with screeching violin spiders.
4. Get a hype man
A big reason writers lose steam on projects is you start listening too much to the internal critic, and you end up hating your own project when you've barely even started. The best way to combat this is to get a non-writer friend to read your stuff and tell you everything they like about it. Ask them to say specific things they liked, not just vague "Yeah, it's good!" because specific positive feedback is always more encouraging than generic platitudes.
5. Do free form character PoV word-dumps
Get out a journal. Set a seven-minute timer and start writing in the voice of your main character (or whatever character is most relevant), like they're making a diary entry or giving a soliloquy. Your pencil cannot stop moving until the timer ends. Just keep writing and ignore any spelling or grammar mistakes.
Have your character dump out all their thoughts and feelings and insecurities, have them rant and cry, have them giggle and blush and kick their feet, or maybe they're still masking their feelings and trying to be strong. Just write in their voice, and you'll be surprised by what they have to say.
6. Explain your story to a rubber ducky
If you're stuck in a plot and don't know where to go, explain your whole plot to a rubber ducky. Make sure you go into all the intricacies and details, explain all the side characters and background lore, tell that ducky where you want your story to go next and why you're stuck.
8 times out of 10, simply talking out loud through your plot will get you thinking differently, and you'll unstick yourself. And it doesn't have to be a rubber ducky; it can be literally anything with a face, but trust me, it is important that is has a face, and you need to be talking out loud, even if it's just a whisper.

[ 08 ] a rowdy village tavern crowded with drunk, singing patrons [For Luran]
Tumblr media
The rain walloped persistently against the window panes while the thunder rumbled furiously in the distance, yet neither affected the merry dispositions of the townsfolk and travellers who’d sought refuge from the storm in the local tavern. The ambience was lively and the patrons, despite being inebriated, were good-humoured — none harnessed malevolence. Some were entangled in precarious games involving gambling, spoke boisterously of adventures and recounted tales of yore; chanted and danced — not a sliver of inhibition left — while the band performed an energetic, yet rather repetitive melody.
There was food and alcoholic beverages in abundance, although the food lacked the absurdly high-quality the elf was accustomed to. Still, it could’ve been worse — at least, the cuisine served in this establishment was edible... The gaiety and warmth made up for most of the tavern’s shortcomings, and he’d always favour a crowded bar over the uninspiring walls of his study, whether the food was atrocious or not.
Although Luran did not personally participate in the merrymaking, he did enjoy himself, until the band was relieved by a human duo: a man playing the dulcimer and a woman who announced herself as the singer. She looked pretty, but that was about it. “Singer” was... too generous a term for someone with her “singing” voice — ghoul or banshee would probably have been more apposite. And to make matters worse, she was attempting to sing in Elvish, but she got every inflection and every conjugation — and basically everything else that had something to do with grammar — wrong.
Luran beheld the abject performance — if one could even call it that — with an expression of unadulterated horror; his features contorted in discomfort, as if he was suffering from a severe case of indigestion. Most of the townsfolk were too intoxicated to consciously register the poor quality of this performance and remained in a state of ignorant bliss — if only he had been so fortunate...
However, her screeching and erroneous usage of grammar did earn her some disparagements. A moderate choir of patrons booed her, and a man, seated behind the elf, grumbled: “Appalling...”
‘Get off the stage!’ a female voice yelled.
‘Shut up, you hag, it’s her debut!’ someone else sneered back.
A deep sigh escaped Luran’s lips while he picked up his tankard of ale — he was too sober to witness these kinds of shenanigans.
‘If only I could tear off my ears,’ he mumbled into his tankard, ‘but they’re two of my finest assets... Granted, I have other delectable assets that could easily compensate for their loss, but it wouldn’t be ideal...’
And just when he thought he’d weathered most of the banshee’s song, she whipped out a recorder flute and started to play, without hitting a single note, and always, always playing out of tune and offbeat.
‘I’m not one to tread on other people’s dreams and ambitions, but it’s moments like these that I wish I were. The aural torment,’ he groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose with his free hand and fortuitously locking eyes with the woman sitting adjacent to him. ‘I hope she’s not your friend, if she is... apologies, I intended for my criticism to sound constructive.’

asking metallic crimson characters what their pronouns are
Edward Elric: *needs an explanation* Oh okay, he/him I guess
Alphonse Elric: *the one who explained* He/him :) *gets hit with a sudden crisis* oh but who knows if i'll feel like that when i get my body back this is just my current state oh wow i didn't think about this, all of this is pretty scary actually D:
Riza Hawkeye: She/her.
Havoc: I'm a guy :D
Breda: He/him for the both of us.
Fuery: I think he/him?
Rebecca Catalina: She/her, but cute/st also works for me ;) *hands out her number* *mouthing* gimme a call.
Roy Mustang: I mean obviously he/him. Like look at me. *gestures to himself*
Olivier Armstrong: I am looking at you and frankly I'm appalled *dunks on Mustang* *remembers question* she/her. *continues dunking on Mustang*
Major Miles: He/they. *does not elaborate*
Captain Buccaneer: To be honest I used she/her on a bet for a whole ass month once and I really enjoyed it so I don't know how to answer this. Whatever you want I guess.
Alex Armstrong: I use he/him pronouns :) The practice of using pronouns has been passed down in the Armstrong family for generations! *flexes* *buttons flying everywhere from his shirt*
Solf J. Kimblee, looking at him, concerned: Pronouns are just a part of grammar what is... you can't frame it like your family invented pronouns. Everyone uses pronouns. *goes on a tangent about grammar and different languages that don't use gendered pronouns* *does not say which pronouns he uses* *gets asked again* I am between pronouns at the moment let me figure some stuff out and I'll get back to you. Use my name.
Sofia Sills: :) She/her! :D Thank you so much for asking *makes a heart with her hands*
Pride: He/him for Selim, he/they for me.
Madame Bradley: she/her but I'm also looking at using they/them, my little Selim is so advanced and we talked about this one evening and wow, kids these days are just so great and forward thinking :D
King Bradley: Everything in my life has been predestined and already chosen for me so for marketing purposes my team has advised me to answer this as he/him.
Lode, Kimblee's roommate: Gender's not a real thing, but for the sake of administration I use he/him.
Vera, Kimblee's Academy friend: She/her. *looking at Kimblee* Why are you always in the middle of some gender identity crisis?
Winry: she/her I think??? I mean, yeah. I mean, no, yeah, yeah. She/her. I mean. To be honest no one ever asked me this. Yeah, no, she/her. *thinks about it* Yeah. *thinks more about it* Yeah that feels legit. *thinks more about it* But what if though?
Envy: Any and all.
Lust: Shake things up, I'm down for anything. But most people just default to she/her when they see me. Very uninspired people.
Greed: Thicc/ass >:D
Gluttony: Eat/eats *someone asks if gluttony means it/its, gluttony does not*

hello! I’m rlly enjoying your blog :) what kind of music do you think plays at Portland Row? I have a headcanon they listen to Coldplay — Lockwood rlly likes Yellow, Lucy loves Sparks and Fix You, and George likes The Scientist
Hello! Thank you, that is so sweet, glad you are enjoying my blog!
I definitely agree with Coldplay and will even argue that George is a firm fan of their old music style whilst Lockwood loves their newer albums. Lucy is a Paradise girl for sure, it mirrors her escape from her hometown to Portland Row!
I can see Lucy vibing to some London Grammar or Tom Odell as she’s drawing in her attic inbetween cases. Hozier too.
And of course Lockwood definitely listens to ‘A Girl, A Boy, And A Graveyard’ by Jeremiah Messersmith on repeat in his room where no one can see him…particularlyyyy after the events of The Hollow Boy. He is definitely in his sad boy music hours then.
George definitely has a fondness for classical music. Maybe that’s a bit of an uninspired head-cannon for his scholarly character, but I think he loves nothing better than to play some Tchaikovsky whilst filling out their case book at the end of the day.

just wondering how do you find the time to write? especially regular updates
Honestly for a long time I didn't write because I didn't have time, especially with school and work. Its the main reason only started writing fanfiction like two years ago despite always wanting to. I've been lucky enough to have a lot of free time to write over the past few months as i finished up school and began looking for a new job, and I've been using that time to build up better, more consistent writing habits.
I try to write at least a little bit everyday though that doesn't always happen. I don’t really track word counts except during events like Nanowrimo because sometimes trying to meet daily word counts is too stressful. I keep my daily goals small: work on just one scene, one conversation and see where it goes.
Personally I like having multiple stories to bounce between so I can switch it up if I'm feeling bogged down or uninspired for a WIP. I know that doesn't work for everyone, but it helps me.
Finding a time of day that works for you is essential. I write best in the early afternoon and really late at night, but some people write best in the morning before school/work. When you find the time that fits both your schedule and your moods (which I know can be difficult) set up a block of time to write. Even if you spend most of that time staring at a blank screen and only type out one sentence, you'll be making progress!
My secret for regular updates is that when I write multichapter stories that I want to update consistently, I prewrite several chapters before posting.
So say I write 4 chapters before posting (my general minimum goal), if I update weekly then I have a full month to write chapter 5 (and probably more) and my readers see a seamless update. So when I do need to take break from writing because of holidays or just life getting busy, I have that cushion of several chapters to fall back on.
There was a time last summer that I didn't write a single word for like two months! But because I still had a few chapters ready it didn't seem that long to my readers.
And usually by the time I no longer have that cushion, I'm deep enough in the story that I know exactly where it's going and don't need to actively work out plot points. And with experience I rarely get too hung up on things like sentence structure or grammar and can write faster than a newer writer who needs to focus on those things. That's just something that comes with practice though.
In the past year I've also joined a few online writing groups (like my local chapter of Nanowrimo) where I can hop online and do a couple writing sprints with fellow writers where we write as much as we can in 10 or 15 minutes. If you're short on time for writing then it's a great way to get some words out! It's also nice to have some encouragement from other writers!
This got kind of long and rambling but I hope it answers your question and maybe helps out any writers out there.

hi!! just wanted to ask how do you plan your fics, and how do you make sure you update regularly?? i struggle with updating things, i've spent almost a year on a nine chapter fic, so any advice would be great <3
Hello, my fellow rock username friend (rock gang rock gang- pretend pebble sounds tough)!
I love talking about how I write and plan and everything! I think the most important thing I've done with my more recent fics is before I even start writing them, I make a really detailed outline of the entire thing. Like, even some word-for-word dialogue so I just know what I'm planning (when I say outline, I mean it's a very unprofessional, no spell-check, no grammar, looks like weird poetry type thing- you can kinda get the idea if you look at the post I linked below). Then you know what's gonna happen and what you need to write and it helps me to not run into writer's block and everything! I used to write a three-page outline of my overall story, but my If Time Runs Out outline is thirty pages long and in the outline for my upcoming fic, I'm only on the third chapter and it's already seven pages. It's super helpful and it also helps you go faster bc by the time you get to writing the story, it's already halfway done, you've just gotta make it sound good and look like an actual story, but you pretty much just translate whatever is on the outline to the actual story document and add some details and glitter and everything. (and of course some parts of the outline are less detailed than others, like just a general overview, but you know. Usually, really important scenes are the ones with a lot of detail in the outline) I'd include a picture of some of my really good outline parts, but I can't bc spoilers.
As for updating regularly, I honestly don't even plan that out. I kinda just estimate and try to set deadlines. Sometimes it doesn't work out, but you can look at my post history and see that it's not very organized. I post whenever I'm done with a chapter (but I'm always motivated to go fast bc I hate to keep people waiting). The post I linked below this will hopefully help motivation-wise, bc usually that's the biggest problem (other than time, and if you don't have time to write, I really can't help with that).
I'm also gonna link a (sort of outdated) post I made in the past about my writing process and how I keep motivated bc I think it definitely has some good takeaways! Here, and some of that is different from how I write now, but the motivation aspect holds up pretty well. The outline stuff is sort of outdated just because mine are more detailed now, but the stuff about keeping it light and silly to keep you in a good mood holds up too, so give it a read if you'd like! And having a less detailed outline is fine too, but, as I said, for really important scenes with lots of dialogue you might want to plan more word-for-word stuff.
So, all in all, having a super solid plot outline before you even start is what helps me, but the most important thing is don't write if you don't feel like it! Posting regularly is good, but uninspired writing always feels yucky to do, so take care of yourself and your needs!
Sorry if this was unreadable. I have many mixed-up jumbled thoughts, but I hope it maybe helped! The post I linked is probably going to be the most helpful. (And idk what your process looks like so sorry if this is absolutely useless to you.)

Anderson recalled in an interview how he started as a flautist…
“ once owned a 1960s Fender Stratocaster, which had previously belonged to Lemmy Kilminster before he found fame with Motorhead.
But in fact it was a great buy because learning to play it was the start of Jethro Tull.”
Anderson lives on a farm in the southwest of England where he has a recording studio and office.
Jethro Tull are about to start a US tour on Friday, Aug. 18th, at the Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, Illinois. They will however be hopping over the Atlantic to perform in Europe during the tour.

14, 16, and 24 for the ask game?
Thank you for the ask Astoria :)
14. How do you write emotional scenes? Do you ever feel what the characters feel? Do you draw from personal experiences?
I’m a bit of a softie, so I don’t usually write emotional scenes that are too intense! I sprinkle smaller moments throughout that display the characters’ insecurities and emotions, while still trying to be somewhat subtle about it. Most people don’t wear their hearts on their sleeves, and it makes the eventual intense moment even more impactful.
When I do write emotional scenes, I write from Imogen’s POV, who I relate to a lot. I definitely let my own emotions guide the writing process and draw from personal experience to a certain extent (what lesbian hasn’t hopelessly pined after a friend for years?)
16. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Share one of them?
I have a handful of WIPs that I’m already working on, so I’ve been hesitant to get anything else started. BUT I have one idea that I simply cannot stop thinking about. I’ve been playing a lot of Red Dead Redemption 2 lately, and I’m DYING to start working on an RDR2 Imodna AU as soon as I’m back from vacation. Outlaw Imogen!! Outlaw Laudna!! Beautiful scenery!! Camping out under the stars!! Horses!! It’s too perfect.
24. Worst writing advice anyone ever gave you?
It’s hard to say because most of the people in my life don’t know that I write, so I don’t usually ask for/receive advice!
I will say that all the essay writing I did in school was content-focused and informational. The feedback and intense grading has instilled a voice in my head that I have to ignore when I’m writing creatively. Perfect grammar can be sacrificed for an impactful story!
One common tip that I’ve found that doesn’t work for me is forcing myself to write a certain number of words/pages a day. I’m a contrarian who doesn’t like to do something when someone tells me to do it (even if it’s myself). I write for fun and if I’m uninspired, I’m uninspired! I’ve learned to be okay not updating on a regular schedule, and following inspiration as it comes!
