The Winged Servant - 11
content warnings: vague medical care, narrator who does not realize he was a victim of violence, unreliable narrator who believes in the divine right of a monarchy, fantasy discrimination against angels, I swear this is actually much less political than these warnings make it seem
prev chapter | masterlist
The thing about angel wings was that humans didn't know much about them. Prince Ryan had done some research, early on, just in case, he'd said. From the look on this doctor's face, though, I didn't think she had done the same.
The other thing about angel wings was that I didn't know much about them either.
I wasn't an angel angel, of course. Not like the ones from the bible with eyes all over themselves, begging people not to be afraid of them. I was the type of angel that hadn’t been too different from humans, way back in the early days. Back when people paid egregious amounts of money for the ability to fly. Humans and angels were only separated by a surgery worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, still all called humans, until the scientists had learned to change the genetic code of children before they were born.
Wings got a lot less valuable once kids could be born with them. It didn’t help once people couldn’t control if a kid was born with them or not.
“Angels” was a nickname first, and it spread, although I never was sure if it was just the wings or if it was the idea that angels would come to the earth while the world was ending. It didn’t matter. Everyone thought that the world was ending, and maybe it had. But people still ate and slept and laughed and cried, and the world went on.
And once the angels started to show differences from humans, humans stopped caring to know about them.
I knew very little about my wings besides the fact that they weren’t the wings of a bird. Prince Ryan, while in one of his better moods, had explained some of it to me once. Bats were mammals, like humans—easier to attach, easier to maintain. Of course, the prince was human, and I was not, and I would never be able to have his level of understanding with matters like these.
There were humans in this castle, though, that also didn’t seem to have his level of understanding.
The doctor that Kieran had brought me to had taken one look at me, smiled politely, and left me alone to talk to Kieran outside the door. “Just stay put for a minute, sugar,” she’d said, voice strained, a southern accent bleeding through her words as she left me to avoid eye contact with the guard who’d had to help me walk down the hall.
Her voice was less strained when she’d returned, but she still didn’t seem pleased that I was there. I shrunk back onto the cot I’d been left on.
“Onyx, Ma’am.”
“Alright, Onyx, that’s good. Do you mind telling me what happened to your arm?”
“It got hit by a sword, I think, Ma’am.” My memories of the night before were hazy, but it was a sword, right? My arm had been… it’d gotten hurt when we were in a hallway, in an endeavor to get us out of that hallway. And Prince Cardan had pushed me in the way. Maybe.
“Mkay. Looks like you got lucky and it just nicked you, hun. Won’t even need stitches. I’ve just gotta disinfect it and bandage it. Would that be alright?”
I nodded jerkily, not expecting the question. Prince Ryan had told me what he was doing to me, sometimes, but not like this. Dr. Charlotte had been smiling the whole time, soft and kind. Prince Cardan smiled at me sometimes, but it was always due to amusement on his part. Of course, that was his right, because I was a servant, but Dr. Charlotte had been smiling as if it were for my benefit. She’d asked before touching my arm. That wasn’t… how people were supposed to act about angels and servants.
“I’m afraid I can’t do much about your wing, sweetheart,” she said once my arm was bandaged, and I nodded. I’d expected that much. “I haven’t ever worked with angel wings before, and I wouldn’t want to make anything worse because of my lack of experience. But I can find someone who knows more about it, alright?”
I nodded. Dr. Charlotte seemed like the type to tolerate questions, probably. “May I ask a question, ma’am?”
“Sure, hun.”
“Why do you want to fix my wing?”
She blinked, and then laughed lightly. “Well, I’m not quite sure what you mean. I mean, I think everyone should get medical assistance that caters to them. You don’t mean to give up on that wing just because I wouldn’t know where to start with it, right? We’ll find someone else. Do you not want it fixed?”
I frowned. “Good servants don’t have wants, ma’am, other than serving the royal family. Her Majesty has always had my best interests in mind, including when my wing was broken to prevent me from flying. And I don’t have a preference, of course, but I don’t know if she wants it fixed.”
“Her Majes- Are you talking about Lucia?”
“Yes, ma’am.” Dr. Charlotte’s willingness to refer to the queen with her first name was dangerous, to say the least, and I tried not to let my heart rate spike.
“Okay, well, I’m not sure if she mentioned this to you, but she hasn’t ruled a country for the better part of the last decade. Last night was a pitiful attempt to get the country back under her control. Bless her heart, she might have actually believed it would work.”
I stared at Dr. Charlotte. I wasn’t supposed to contradict the things said by people who ranked higher than me, which included everyone, but holy shit. Holy shit. Talking about the queen that way was treason of some kind, without a doubt, and also flat out wrong. Sixteen generations—the monarchy had been theirs for sixteen generations. “Are you sure you aren’t misinformed, Ma’am?” I settled on eventually.
“Quite sure. Have you ever actually seen Lucia with any of her subjects?”
No, but I wasn’t a traitor and I knew that I was supposed to take the royal family’s word on things. I was a good servant and I would act accordingly. Except-
Except I had just left a room of the entire royal family, tied up together. Except we had murdered three guards to get into this castle, and we’d lived in a house with three bedrooms. Except that the royal family had a total of two servants working for them, and neither of us had been allowed to leave the house.
“Her Majesty’s family has been ruling the country for sixteen generations,” I said weakly.
“Yeah, well, no one wanted Lucia to rule because she’s a dick and hates everyone. So we did something about it. I can’t get you to start hating her—that’s up to you—but you should probably know the facts, and the facts are that she’s not a queen and she never will be again.”
And that was- not my decision to make. Nothing was ever my decision to make. Of course political affairs like this wouldn’t make sense to me; I was an angel and a servant, and my only job was to do what I was told.
That was what Prince Ryan had said, even. Do what they tell you. Don’t get hurt. Even if this Dr. Charlotte was wrong about things, I was supposed to do what I was told.
“Hey,” Dr. Charlotte said softly, and I glanced back up at her. “I’m sorry for overwhelming you, dear. Now that your arm’s all fixed up, Kieran’s got some questions for you, if that’s okay.”
Do what they tell you. Don’t get hurt.
“Yes, Ma’am.”

Lucifer Season 6 Episode 10 Review: Partners ‘Til the End
https://ift.tt/2YNzBxr
This Lucifer review contains spoilers.
Lucifer Season 6 Episode 10
“I’m an angel, remember? I’ll see you on the other side.”
There are endless avenues the Lucifer writing team could have taken with the series finale “Partners ‘Til the End,” but fans of the Netflix fantasy show are treated to an emotionally charged ride that finally places the characters exactly where they need to be whether in Heaven, Hell, or here on earth. Though the episode clearly centers on the circumstances behind Lucifer’s disappearance and the impact it eventually has on Chloe and Rory, all the characters receive wonderful, albeit brief, tributes that offer the satisfying endings each deserves. All in all, just a beautifully executed conclusion to a show that began with such a preposterous premise.
The partners come full circle as Chloe gets shot in the series pilot and stabbed in the finale, but it’s the actions of the half human, half angel Aurora that ultimately drives the final narrative and draws Lucifer and Chloe even closer together. In retrospect, viewing Lucifer as a series of metaphors remains an option, and with the emphasis lately placed on the themes of guilt and redemption, this approach makes perfect sense. “If the Devil can be redeemed, then anyone can,” Lucifer explains to Vincent Le Mec during the final scene and hones in on the series’ fundamental precept – Lucifer is us.
Lucifer’s recurring refrain “what is it you truly desire,” coupled with the fact that his character embodies the global concept of pure evil through the Devil persona, provides an opportunity to examine our own failings as human beings traversing the many pitfalls life puts in our way. All of which makes Lucifer’s epiphany such a wonderful outcome as he recognizes that Hell doesn’t need a keeper; it needs a healer. He’s found his calling, and it couldn’t be further from what we’d expect of the celestial being we meet outside of Lux when this journey begins.

Lucifer Season 6 Episode 8 Review: Save the Devil, Save the World
By Dave Vitagliano
Through six seasons, the Chloe Decker/Lucifer Morningstar relationship occupies much of the narrative capital, and once they settle their differences, the ongoing romantic entanglements disappear leaving the landscape open for others to move to the front. However, the appearance of their daughter Rory and the time travel element that brings her from the future, enable a long buried aspect of Lucifer’s personality to emerge. Rory’s anger toward her father and his own self-directed angst regarding his absence during her childhood disappear in the midst of an emotionally charged scene that leads to a promise to not change a thing. Rory realizes Lucifer was there when she needed him most, and in a scene visually and thematically reminiscent of Dan’s ascension into Heaven, Rory returns to her own time in the future. Brilliantly handled.
While it may have been nice for Rory to remain in her parents’ time, we always knew the future for Lucifer’s nuclear family would remain unchanged. What we see in “Partners ‘Til the End,” though, is that the truth of the situation sets Lucifer, Chloe, and Rory free from the pain and suffering each endures now and in the decades to come. Even though Chloe and Lucifer now understand the events that lead to his absence during Rory’s life, a somber mood surrounds the two at Lux as they work through the reality of how their lives will change. Lucifer doesn’t disappoint, however, and sits at the piano, presumably for the last time, to play a “Heart and Soul” duet with Chloe. It’s a sweet scene during which she tells him “I’ll be with you always,” though the visual of them kissing as he sits on Hell’s throne is momentarily a bit disconcerting. To be fair though, it will be hell for them to be apart.
Though there’s not much about the Lucifer series finale that requires in-depth explanation, that doesn’t mean there aren’t ideas and motifs that bear discussing. While regret and guilt play a significant role in determining one’s ability to enter Heaven, the sacrifices Chloe and Lucifer make, not only for the sake of their daughter but also for the good of the human race, should not be dismissed lightly.

Lucifer Season 6 Episode 6 Review: A Lot Dirtier Than That
By Dave Vitagliano
The series denouement comes fast and furious, and that’s perfectly fine. This is Lucifer and Chloe’s story, and even though we know she’s on her deathbed in the future, it doesn’t make seeing it any easier. Still, the sublime nature of the mother/daughter reunion in the future reveals even more layers of the sacrifices Chloe makes along the way. Her death and ascendance into Heaven is likewise handled with the beauty it deserves, and when the white robed Amenadiel appears behind her, we realize her journey is just beginning. “Are you ready to go home?” he asks her. And then it hits us.
Perfection is a dangerous word to throw around, but the show’s final scene comes as close as celestially possible to achieving narrative perfection. Because the scene now turns visually dark, we immediately know we’re in Hell, and wait to glimpse our first Hell loop. However, that’s not how Lucifer rolls, and we find ourselves inside a therapist’s office that looks eerily similar to Linda’s. Instead of Linda conducting a session, it’s Doctor Lucifer employing all of the tools and techniques gleaned from his sessions with Doctor Martin. Le Mec’s inclusion in Lucifer’s group session speaks loudly to the work the Devil plans with his healing mission.
And just so we know the new, improved Lucifer retains much of what makes him such a delightful character, a knock on the door prompts a response that the donuts must have arrived. A playful jab at law enforcement? Nevertheless, Chloe walks through the door prompting a magnificent call and response to end the series. “Hello, detective.” And in a perfect tie-in to the episode’s title, Chloe responds, “I thought you could use a partner.” We don’t know the mechanics involved, but since Amenadiel now occupies God’s throne, we can assume Chloe’s been granted free passage between Heaven and Hell. A happy ending for sure.
Nevertheless, it’s not all about Lucifer and Chloe, and the members of Team Lucifer deserve and receive nicely presented scenes that provide enough closure to keep everyone happy. Ella meets the first group of girls for her STEM program and her relationship with Carol appears to be thriving. As much as anything Lucifer does in his final days on earth, this simple act shows not only that he cares, but that he listens to what people truly desire. Dan and Charlotte relaxing at an outdoor cafe would have been enough. Nevertheless, the writers hit a homerun adding a swanky metal serving dish whose removal reveals one of Dan’s beloved pudding cups. Again, brilliant.

Lucifer Season 6 Episode 4 Review: Pin the Tail on the Daddy
By Dave Vitagliano
Even though Merrin Dungey joins the cast late and appears only briefly, her character plays an important role in Amenadiel’s ascendance. Unfortunately, we won’t get to see her working side by side with Chloe and Ella now that she’s a detective, but we know her heart’s in the right place, and she’s working with the right people. Though I didn’t hear the tinkling of a bell, an angel gets his wings which absolutely thrills his parents. We could have done with a bit more Linda, but Lucifer’s homage at the end pays tribute nicely. And the powerful scene in which the celestials kneel before their new God drives home the fact that the human race is in magnificent hands.
Arguably the most delightful and engaging couple, Eve and Mazikeen work together as bounty hunters, but it’s the phone call they receive while out on a job that reminds us what a strong bond Team Lucifer retains. Chloe brings infant Rory home from the hospital to meet the family that will love and support her through the challenging days ahead. These charming snapshots of the near future feel completely natural.
We’ve reached the end of our journey with Team Lucifer and the LAPD, so what do we know? Amenadiel has taken over as God now that their Father left this universe to be with his wife in another. Dan, Charlotte, and Chloe find themselves rewarded with new lives in Heaven, while Ella, Carol, Sonya, and present day Chloe hold down the fort at the precinct. Half-angel Charlie gets his wings, but we don’t know the status of Linda’s manuscript devoted to her experiences with Lucifer.
With Lucifer down under, who will occupy the penthouse? Chloe will likely want to stay in her home with Trixie and baby Rory, however, Lucifer’s old digs seem perfect as a base of operations for Maze and Eve to begin their lives together. And what of Lucifer? The Devil reinvents himself, leaving the traditional perception of Satan in the dust in favor of a kinder, gentler figure. Eventually, we know he’ll reunite with Chloe, but for now, there are patients to help.

Showrunner Joe Henderson has gone on record stating that this is it for Lucifer, and there will be no seventh season. It’s always difficult to leave old friends behind, and such is the case with Team Lucifer, but “Partners ‘Til the End” provides a marvelous ending to a series of stories that will continue. Unfortunately, we won’t be there to witness these sublime delights. All good things must come to an end.

Lucifer 3x03 Mr and Mrs Smith The 5th File - Gaudium
At the end of 3x03 episode, Mr and Mrs Mazikeen Smith, there was a figure archiving Maze’s latest adventures in a place which looked a lot like the precinct.
The files were:
Lucifer Morningstar Mazakeen of the Lilim  Amenadiel / Dr Canaan Charlote Richards Gaudium
Tumblr media
As we can guess someone is keeping tabs on them since Season One and the broad shoulders with the precaution of gloves might hint Pierce. Still were and should not be sure it was him just yet.
Now back to the Gaudium. Many after the Canadien airing asked me if it was a thing because they could only find the Latin translation of the world which is joy/pleasure. This is not good by the way... It’s something dark and very dangerous.
For the ones who went to Sunday School or you might be an avid fan of the Catholic dogma, not me but you get the drift, you might know Gaudium as the term used for one of the internal sins.
For the ones who read the Lucifer Comics.... well he is a character and more precisely, Gaudium is a fallen cherub who appears in the majority of the series. He is not a bad character and actually helps Lucifer and the rest of the comic’s gang whenever he can but to actually see him in the show will be a bit hard still I’d be more than happy if Lucifer got back his strange fallen pet of shorts...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So Lucifer Comics or Theology for this one? I would say Theology although I crave to see this foul mouthed little creature in teh show. Alas our CGI budget is not great so...
In Christianity and mainly in Catholicism you have the external acts and the external sin, like murdering someone which is both an act and a sin and then you have the internal acts and the sins. Internal acts and sins are what we can associate mostly with the evil thoughts.
The Internal sins are three:
1) Delectatio morosa: This sin is the pleasure taken through a sinful thought or imagination even without desiring it.
This is perhaps part of Lucifer’s domain. He calls out the desires of people which they crave but they are bound by the constrictions of imagination or thought which sometimes may explain certain acts around these desires but with never reaching the desirable act itself.
Something like someone wants to cheat their partner, they can speak about it but they never do it. According to this concept, that person has lustful thoughts and as such he or she has committed a sin.
2) Gaudium: This is darker as the person takes pleasure out of the sins that have already been committed. It’s in a sense the joy you get out of an act but to which you are not remorseful about it, on the contrary, you relieve it with avid satisfaction...
In this case, you don;t just think something you have done it and you still enjoy it beyond of what you might have wanted out of that sin. You sin in order to sin which brings the third internal sin which in my opinion is connected to the second.
3) Desiderium: Desiring what is sinful because it is sinful and for no other reason.
The above sins according to the Catholic dogma have more effect on someone's soul than the ones who can be committed. A murder can be forgiven but the desire and the pleasure you get out of it cannot be forgiven and can stain a soul.
Matthew 5:28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Romans 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.
Okay, so what that has to do with Lucifer?
The word connects both in my opinion Marcus and Sinnerman but through a very different thread than the one you might think of. Let’s begin with Sinnerman.
In order for you to understand Sinnerman, we have to get back to Lucifer for a while. Lucifer has the “gift” to draw out desires verbally. The humans who are under his mojo at the time seem dazed and sometimes are wondering if they actually said that. Sometimes they also seem confused on what they have said in the first place. Still, Lucifer only exploits deep dark desires but so far when they have shown that they are desiring sin itself he is furious. Murder, exploitation, deceit does not dwell well for Lucifer and he always lashes out on them afterwards. Remember how angry he was with the guy who had killed Jenna? He condemns that kind of desire and sin.
But does Lucifer urge people to sin? In a way yes but only on the first level and when they don’t really harm themselves or others. He is very careful on what kind of favours he grants and what he tells people it’s okay to do. So yes Lucifer does like to give a push on free will but that’s it by no circumstance these people can claim that the Devil made them do it. It was their free will playing the part but mostly on a very tolerable level of sin. A kind of sin which you can deem as liberation in a way. Seeking sexual gratification, liberation, money... Still, whatever would cause an eternal damnation is out of Lucifer’s book.
Some say that we sin because we are sinners due to the eternal sin... The first sin if you like of Adam so we are bound to sin at some point but that does not mean we cannot aim to be sinfree... Anyway now let’s get back to Sinnerman.
Sinnerman as we saw in 3x01 murdered in a way Lucifer’s kidnapper. The guy who Lucifer afterwards questioned in 3x02 was adamant that he had killed the kidnapper because Sam was sleeping with his girlfriend and so the murder was out of jealousy.
On a later scene, Lucifer says that Sinnerman might have manipulated that guy somehow.... Gaudium was the perfect way to do it.
Sinnerman might have a very interesting ability. He grants favours yes but what if he can externalise the internal sins? At least the Gaudium? Here we can think of two possibilities. Either  Either Sinnerman can make people externalise their internal sinful thought into actions and then leaving them dazed and confused in a way Lucifer leaves his interrogation victims, or he can convince people that they have acted on their internal evil thoughts to cover his evil acts. In my opinion, the first one is the most plausible answer. Sinnerman can manipulate people on acting on their desires by evoking the feeling of Gaudium, meaning the pleasure of having satisfied an act and in this case an act which carries a sin internally and now externally.
But doesn’t that debunk your Maze theory since June Sanoiro? No it does not, on the contrary, it strengthens my belief that Sinnerman manipulated Maze on her internal sins and she might have acted on them but like the guy in the precinct she will not remember it. Yet with that in mind, we also have another possible player entering the game. Chloe...
Yes as unbelievable it might sound, Chloe might have been manipulated to attack Lucifer. Perhaps she was used in order to dispose or worse (think wings) hence the burns he had sustained... Now that implicates things quite a bit and the board could be changing a lot by the end of S3. Do not forget that we have a really big and shocking surprise coming up according to Lauren German (Chloe Decker) in her last interview. Does she know something? Who knows she was just telling what the writers had told them early in S3 so only time will tell...
Still, I might be wrong about Maze as in the final scene we see that the guy who handles the files is wearing black gloves... But not leather ones like in 2x18.
Tumblr media
Now as you can see the drawer has two sets of files and the second also has some names.
Tumblr media
As far as I can see the first is J. Chris Peterson. The only J. Peterson I know in Lucifer was featured as a Doctor with his wife (also a Doctor) in 2x06 - Monster.
The second seems to be really short and as far as I can tell with a lot of difficulties it might - again might - be Dr Martin.
The third was the most difficult one. As far as I can tell the second part is “of God”. Other possible words are rot or rest. In any case One of my interpretations of the first word is DUMMA of GOD. Duma (one M) in the comic books was the fallen angel who took over the rule of Hell after Lucifer left. He is not a bad Angel in any case but he has fallen out of favour for sure as he is called the Prince of Hell. For more info on that character just click the embedded link on the name above.
There are other words that might fit the first half of the third file but I cannot say with certainty. Just think of something between 5-7 words and see if it fits...
Finally, what is the connection between the Sinnerman and Pierce? Let’s say that according to the broad shoulders and all that in the final scene it’s Pirce although it might also be Dan by the paleness of the skin. Still, they might have used another actor for the end of 2x19 as Welling had not been cast at that point in spring in 2017 and we don;t know if that scene was shot then or now.
Marcus Pierce as we know has a tattoo which features some interesting Latin words. Most of them are words that were used in the Christianised Europe and the use of Gaudium is as I have said a term used mainly if not exclusively by the Catholic Dogma. My speculation here is that Pierce might have belonged at some point in an organisation which was aware of what existed on Earth and got out after the death of a loved one, probably of his child in my opinion.
The files seem like they have been meticulously kept but that doesn’t change the fact that certain vital information is missing. Charlotte Richards is not referred to as Mum, Lucifer is not referred to as Sammael or The Devil and yet Maze is called Of The Lilim. So can we speculate that Sinnerman might be one of her bothers? One that could manipulate her?
Personally, I remember quite a few Lilim from the comics and none was pleasant or cuddly aside from Briadach in his childhood. For the time being if Sinnerman is connected with the comics I’ll tentatively remain on my belief that it might be The Silk Man but with our writers, you never know...
