Aaah this ask has been in my askbox for like a few days and good golly what a brainworm. I think they would be a bit like korrasami but somehow with less braincells.

I love the idea of Wei and Bolin being the only ones genderswapped in this AU so the Krew is 3/4 sapphic women and Mako is just there like

When I started thinking about fem Bolin for some reason my brain was like: "but what if she looked almost exactly the same and was just a butch" and I was floored by the idea bcs butch lesbian Bolin is a beautiful vision.

I think Bolin would be in the closet for the while, but also still have crushes on the same girls canon Bolin had but just have incredibly shitty excuses for it. Like she just wanted to be "friends" with Korra, or she pursued Eska because she originally thought she was Desna (she didn't), and her interest in Ginger was purely because of acting (it was not, she was down horrifically bad).

And then she meets Wei who is a mean lesbian. Tbh canon Wei already gives mean girl vibes lol. And Wei does not take Bolin's weird halfway in the closet shit and helps her realise that she's super totally into girls.

She then tearfully comes out to Mako who is like: "i know...? I thought we all knew this and just didn't talk about it???"

this!! they can go so many different ways!! what makes them so compelling to me is how well both their characters bounce on each other, even korra and asamai *technically* don’t get together (EXPLICITLY) at the end of TLOK, and i love korrasami as much as the next person but yangvik hits on another level i think because we get to be in both character's heads, AND because they are such good reflections of one another in different circumstances, you get to watch them GROW as characters together and its beautiful 😔🙏 like aaaaAAA i could write about them for so long, i was looking through my goodreads acc that i stopped using like two years ago and i don’t even remember writing this but even i clocked in their chemistry not even halfway through the book 😭😭

I think the beauty of the Yangvik ship comes from the unknown. We know they didn't get together by the end of the story. But with the chemistry they have, and with all the bits and pieces building up upon two novels, it pulls at the heart strings to imagine what their relationship post Legacy of Yangchen would look like. And I feel that makes them very unique amongst all the other relationships in the Avatar universe.

ive been searchin forever to find this korrasami fic where korra is a bodyguard to asami. Korra has this really dark past and if i remember correctly, because of her past she struggles with ptsd and also has many scars on her body. korra’s super respectful and takes her job ss asami’s bodyguard very serious. i read the fic one time years ago and loved it but never been able to find it since. really hopin someone knows which fic im talking about.

and yes, lok and tahnorra were my everything in 2012 and early 2013 😂😂😂 of course, in those days, korrasami was but a twinkle in our collective eye, and i leaned fully into the badass-female-friendship vibes with every fiber of my being... and although i never watched any of lok beyond book 1 (i seriously have not seen any of the other seasons apart from gifs on tumblr), we now have beautiful bountiful layers of canon and fanon. WE LOVE BOTH. BOTH IS GOOD.

and i feel you completely on the preference for 3rd-person POV—i can enjoy 1st-person sometimes but it's a hard sell for me. i really like when we have pretty unreliable narrators that just straight up do not Catch Things They Are Supposed to (*coughjackfrostcough*) and it adds all sorts of tension and dramatic irony 💕💕💕

my thoughts below!! 💕 @salamandersocks and i have similar tastes!! i seem to favor:

opening lines that immediately immerse me in a specific emotion or situation (curiosity, anticipation, mystery), and stuff that hints at deeper complexity and "clues ahoy!!"

i also like slightly unsettling lines ("there is a strange boy on the beach who won’t stop staring at her") for mystical stories like the mermaid!au

i also like when really specific or short lines can drop a reader IMMEDIATELY into a specific context; conversely, i like when the first line gives the reader a feeling and the second line gives a location!

i also realize i like throwing characters into emotional / interpersonal conflict immediately lmao ("... the fuck is this?" / "what are you doing here?" / "on the contrary" / "man")
