Shoyou’s actual twin with Kenma’s eye color. Smart but chaotic, like really chaotic. Smol. Best friend’s with Akio and Keisuke. He and Toshiyo are good friends too, if he feels too much like a third wheel around Akio and Keisuke he’ll drag Toshiyo into the mix whenever he can. Has a little sister named Kotori. They are bubbly and he and his sister are the light of their parents' eyes. As oblivious as his parents can be about romance, he inherited the same trait and he doesn’t know Ushijimaten is crushing on him hard. The only rebellious thing he ever did in his life was randomly get his ears pierced with his three best friends to which it was Akio’s idea. Loves gaming but isn’t as good as Kenma lol but his imagination is as active as both his parents. Games with Ten too who is way better than him for no good reason. Is smart but Akio often has to remind him to use his brain.

Tol emo angel that’s usually the smartest person in the room but lowkey, lowkey has a temper. Has Kei’s features like hair and eye color but a mix of his parent’s looks. Wears glasses but always forgets them, only remembers to bring them if Sora or his parents mention it but most of the time barely listens to his parents. Has strong feelings for Keisuke he just hasn’t decided if they’re positive or negative yet tho they’re bros.

Kageyama Toshiyo

Shy and reserved, between Sora and Akio’s heights. Dark hair like Kageyama and eyes like Tadashi and freckles. Friends with Sora only so he claims. Has 99 problems and Haru is like 75% of them.

Bokuto Keisuke

Newly 16 tho lol. Has Kou’s wild dual colored hair and Keiji’s eyes. Akio is his best bro and he’s really close with Sora too. He and Akio dance around eachother as Sora puts it. Has messy hair to his shoulders and refuses to get a haircut. Heart of gold, head empty tho. Drags Akio into social situations, likes gaming as much as Sora.

Sawamura Himawari

Ten is the only person he knows that he hasn’t clashed with at one point probably also because Ten is rarely if ever bothered enough to care. Clashes with Haru whenever they are in close proximity of each other. Also has a problem with Miya Yukio but doesn’t know it’s just because he’s crushing on him. Can always tell the difference between him and his twin and the fake triplet cousin.

Sakusa Ame

Calm Ambivert who is mostly unaffected by the thought of germs but feels closer to his uncles and cousins than his sibling and parents because he feels he saw them less growing up. Looks more like Atsumu and can get mistaken as a triplet to his twin cousins. Good friends with Sora and Keisuke.

Miya Yukio

Him and his twin Yushiro take after Osamu and their uncle heavily in looks along with their cousin Ame. It almost scares the adults. Is cocky when he’s annoyed, reserved and intelligent. Gets along with Sora and Keisuke surprisingly well. Clashes with Shinji in one sided beef on Shinji’s part.

Kuroken - I have specific opinions on Kuroken because I'm a fan of unrequited Kenhina in highschool. Don't get me wrong, I still like how most of the fandom portrays them, but I much prefer them getting together after the timeskip when everyone's settled into their new jobs. I also really like it queerplatonic, as much or even more than romantic.

Kuroyaku/Levyaku - Honestly I like these two about equally, i think they're both shitpost-able and that's my top priority for a ship. Fukutoraken - I think Kenma being a serial third-wheel is infinitely funnier but i dont mind it, as long as fukutora aren't separated i'm chilling. This idea literally just popped into my head right now, and as always, I'm seeking the feedback of the Kagehina gang (also just to make sure I'm not going insane again).

With that out of the way, here's the idea–

What if there was a Kagehina AU... but Heartstopper-themed?

I know, British grammar school and Japanese volleyball school might seem entirely unrelated, and there aren't many people in both fandoms.

But am I the only one who thinks that Kagehina, or a lot of other Haikyuu ships for that matter, would fit the cozy, lovey-dovey yet also deep, and fall-type vibe of Heartstopper?

Admittedly, even if this idea was good, Kagehina might not be the best ship for the job– Heartstopper is more of a love at first sight kind of thing, and Kagehina is more of an enemies to lovers who bicker like an old married couple.

So, I was thinking, which ship from Haikyuu is the most Heartstopper-coded, if I were to write this?

Maybe it is Kagehina, or maybe something softer like Kenhina? Or Maybe Tsukkiyama? Let me know your thoughts on this (pls).

aight. HINATA BEING TERRIFIED THAT KAGEYAMA WAS GONNA STOP SETTING FOR HIM. JUST LIKE HE SAID WHEN THEY FIRST MET. CAUSE HINATA WASN'T BEING NECESSARY TO WIN. AND HINATA TRYING SO HARD AND BEING NOT ONLY FRUSTRATED THAT IT WASN'T ENOUGH, BUT ALSO SCARED THAT IF KAGEYAMA SAW HE WASN'T USEFUL. HE'D LOSE INTEREST IN HIM AND STOP SETTING FOR HIM. nekoma cutting off Hinata's wings not only to stop him from flying, but to make kageyama stop helping him fly.

and kageyama sees that. realizes that hinata isn't being useful to him or the team. AND HE FINDS A WAY TO SET FOR HIM ANYWAY.

he sees Hinata can't get up on his own and everything is telling him to drop him- the most reasonable & rational thing would be to stop setting for him. and y'know what kageyama does? HE TELLS HIM "GO AHEAD, FLY"

HE SETS FOR HIM ANYWAY and finds a way to make him fly even higher. WHICH IS SO DKSBSKSJSJSKS IDEK HOW TO DESCRIBE IT. like not only does that tell hinata that no matter how much people try to stop him, kageyama will help him fly anyway- but it also speaks about kageyama A LOT. cause there wasn't a strategic reason to keep trying to use hinata- in fact, he could've used nekoma's focus on him on their favor and instead set for other players.

BUT NO, he chose to keep setting for hinata. because at that point it wasn't just about winning, for kageyama. yknow how important is that? kageyama, who only ever cared about winning, thought setting for hinata was more important to him than winning.

IF THAT DOESNT SAY A LOT ABOUT HIS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IDK WHAT WOULD

yeah those r my main thoughts. overall a very good movie, perhaps the pacing could've been a bit more intense/nerve-wrecking for my liking? like i wasnt so "in it" as i was with many matches in the anime. still, i think it had a bit more of a focus on relationships and background stories and character development, specially through flashbacks, symbolism & but impactful quotes, so it's still chefs kiss. very much recommend watching it if u haven't.

I haven't! You're actually my first ask so this is super fun!! My top five would prob be 1. Oikawa Tooru 2. Atsumu Miya 3. Akaashi Keiji 4. Iwaizumi Hajime 5. Kageyama Tobio (but honorable mention Suga because he's a darlin' but I can't say he clears top 5)

I really really love cocky characters? casually arrogant characters really do it for me but also I find that all of the HQ boys have something they deserve to take pride in! pride is also such a big concept in HQ because 1. Japanese culture 2. athlete culture and I love to see characters that fully embrace it. Also I'm a sucker for pretty boys. Iwa's there because I had a massive crush on him in my sophomore year of HS.

TOP FIVE MOMENTS UNDER THE CUT!

My five moments are definitely more mundane than any insane on-court action. I love to see characters interact more than ANYTHING.

"this is going to be one extravagant family quarrel." Oikawa acknowledging that even though the monster generation has grown up and grown apart, they are still childhood friends and the best teammates/enemies on the court that the others have... you can tear found family out of my cold dead hands! ESPECIALLY when it's oikawa tooru.

"we messed around too much, tsumu." "you're right, samu." i love the miya twins and i have an adoration for their attitude towards volleyball, which is "ill drop it if it isn't fun" because I feel like we get a lot of characters in the series who are battling to remind themselves that volleyball IS fun and that they DO love volleyball (showcased in brazil arc). But the miya twins purely do it because of the novelty. this moment also is them acknowledging that they let down their senpais by not winning them nationals for their last year. despite being the favorites to win, Inarizaki lost to a small, underfunded school... social commentary.

"thank you for hitting exactly how i expected you would every time." okay THIS moment really showed how good tsukishima is at blocking, despite him being one of the more passive blockers in the series. tsukishima's attitude towards blocking develops a lot throughout the series especially when we see him challenge date tech and shiratorizawa. i love that he's almost completely disregarded kill-blocking near the end of the series (SWEETENED by the knowledge that he goes pro, my darling boy) in favor of his own playing style. this scene definitely shows his development, especially when going against a blocker like sunarin. :)

"if you ever get boring, i'll drop you." Firstly, it's nice to see that kenma keeps his near-psychopathic attitude even after he's grown up (my redditor king) but also- I LOVE kenhina whether it's platonic or slash. Kenhina is one of the pairings which I FIND has the most chemistry, so to see them carry on being not only besties but also have a sponsor/beneficiary relationship is awesome. (I also secretly relate it to a prince/his champion relationship in my mind but shhh).

"power curry is a service ace!" This is so domestic. seeing the characters make fun of each other for their cringey moments as celebrities... it's so good. they really are each other's family and i will cherish every moment which we're reminded of it.

Kenma's favorite part is when they watch movies and lie next to each other on the bed because he can use Hinata as a teddy bear and cuddle with him all night.

Omg yes, Kuroo’s wiggling fingers caught me so off guard. And Tsukki looked so disconcerted in that moment before going back to being the chill guy. You can’t tell me Kuroo hasn’t tickled Tsukki to pieces. Also also also! The end when Nekoma was walking off the court and Kai and Kuroo were literally carrying Yaku. You can’t tell me they haven’t done that before. 🥝 What’s your favorite trope/AO3 tag to write?

Probably something like “getting back together” or “missed connections”; I love some pining, but I think it’s more interesting when the characters have real history together, whether they used to date or whether they had an opportunity to (or had a serious rivalry… hi ushioi…) but didn’t. I think it gives the pining an extra delicious depth of flavor.

I didn’t realize I liked this so much until I wrote Tapestry, where kenhina take like 50k words being friends-to-lovers-to-friends-to-lovers and I found it to be 🤌 to write & read back.

🍉 Do you prefer to write short fics or long fics? Multichaptered works or single ones? Why?

Oooh, tough one… I love writing a long (or long-ish) fic, partly because I love making myself some crunchy food to eat later. But sometimes this comes back to bite me when I get too overambitious and feel intimidated trying to finish things… I think the best balance is when I come up with a “manageably sized idea” and then let myself get carried away with it and it ends up as like a 15k fic.

🍊 Who’s a character you don’t write for that often, but keep meaning to write for more? (They’re so interesting! But maybe you have trouble pinning them down, or keep getting distracted by another blorbo…)

@saltedpin asked me this one too so I’ll go on and on a little bit.

In haikyuu I’ve covered a good number of my faves (though I have more I want to write for almost all of them), but there’s a few characters I haven’t written at all that I love. Asahi, Kita, some of the Shiratorizawa boys… I’ve also barely written Iwaizumi, Bokuto, Tsukishima, Yamaguchi—even though they do appear in fics, so I’d like to give them a little more screentime. Would also love to write the older sisters sometime! Miwa&Alisa&Saeko&Yachi photoshoot collab maybe. Honestly I would love to write something for any haikyuu character, haha.

And for characters from other fandoms! I’d love to write a Natsuhi-centric umineko fic. And for fandoms I’ve written nothing for I’ll make mysef pick one character from each… I would love to write Yotasuke from Blue Period, Asirpa from Golden Kamuy, Blackberry from Chicory: A Colorful Tale, Zagreus from Hades, Anne from Amphibia, Shima from Skip and Loafer (or maybe Kanechika?!), Dorotea from Angel Mage… TOTK Zelda maybe?! I’m sure there’s others I’m forgetting…

talking abt setter decision - it's very interesting how ukai as a coach is also very empathetic towards suga but needs to remind himself to think as a coach. i think this empathy serves him well as a coach too

kenhina names - kenma initially being reluctant to give his first name but hinata latching on to the first name as soon as it is revealed. kenma also calls him shoyo in return - it's very deliberate i feel to show their connection even in a short time.

ALSO i genuinely think kenma noticed hinata as a player and was interested like he's short, he's hyper, I wonder how he'll be on court. he noticed the karasuno logo and deliberately says "see u again"

hinata and suga's connection on being dependent on/being outshadowed by kageyama. seeing hinata affirm that he's aware his only value is being a set with kgym and still want to train more & more to stand on his own strength - affirms suga as well. this is further explored in the end of the ep as hinata ponders on his #10 jersey and feels as if he hasn't earned it by his own right.

also the way the numbers are written as coincidence is very refreshing... it could be fate but it's just like atheletes finding meaning and also a very good plot device. ukai's number back then when he wasn't a starting setter was also 2 & suga's is also 2. it draws narrative parallels without it being too hamfisted.

but yeah ok re: kuroo, i made some changes to his plotline because im insane about him. which is to say that i had a dream about this scene and then had to write it down and now it's out of my control and i'm attached to it.

so basically kuroo became the guy explaining all the worldbuilding lore via a conversation with kenma about the science of soulmates. so kuroo believes in them but in the sense that he dreams of kenma and kenma does not dream of him </3 and i am going to have FUN with that bullshit*

(*please note that there will be no unrequited kuroken. kuroo is just vibing. this is part of why he knows platonic soulmates are okay and allowed and encouraged. there WILL be kurodai. one day i WILL get my bingo on the list of kuroo ships.)

he's , like , really into the scientific explanations of everything, which is why he's so confident in going to kenma and being like hey bestie its ok to fall in love with hinata . soulmates are stupid . like its literally fine you can do whatever you want forever. kenma. kenma. kenma its ok.

anyways so we've got that going on in kenma world. then in hinata world i'm figuring out someone who is encouraging him w the platonic soulmate stuff. part of me wants oikawa because i love oikawa and then another part of me is like. lol. oikawa believes in soulmates b/c he has one so.

then the other part of me is like. well i can make this a saga. hinata goes to brazil and kenhina date. break up in brazil. hinata goes back to japan and is with kageyama. and then like. maybe its atsumu or bokuto who guides him to soulmate actualization or whatever? ooooh ok fun idea would be atsumu who is (VERY VERY SO MUCH platonic) soulmates w osamu, and who is , like, absolutely disgusted at the idea that soulmates "should" be romantic. and this is , like, a come to jesus moment for hinata, yk? just because he's never had anyone tell him that platonic soulmates were an option before .

anyways yeah so those are my new thoughts. i still want kuroo to be, like you said, encouraging kenma in the way that he's like, what you feel matters more than what you dream, the universe can tell you who your soulmate is but it can't tell you who you love. yk, like what hinata chooses when he's awake is so much more important than what he thinks of when he sleeps.

and i want smth similar for hinata but also not the same message repeated in the same way--hence maybe atsumu? bokuto could be interesting and would further my bokuto & hinata friendship agenda. we'll see !! i haven't NEARLY gotten that far yet.
