Respectfully, again, but i think you’re focusing on the wrong aspects of the message here. I think the problem is that you’re removing the very obvious moral and societal implications and condemning that commentary as offensive and unimportant to the topic, and instead gearing the discussion in a more personal direction- which I’m sorry but i have to disagree! These very aspects are what make the topic worth discussing! If the subject of male favoritism in fandom was purely personal preferences and discussion of quality that varies from person to person, we’d be here all day arguing over semantics. Nobody asked, it’s not always the best first step to looking at the root of the bias, and its all too easy to get caught up on. It distracts from the real conversation! That being there’s a very clear pattern in the broader fan spaces, and it is worth interrogating the attitudes behind that particular preference. Moreso than why the surface preferences themselves are held
Also the thing is. It should be a little off-putting and uncomfortable! It *is* tied to big important things! And wanting to divorce this entirely from those subjects is a disservice to why we’re talking about this issue in the first place. It’s ripping the meaning out of the statement, and saying very little in turn, which does read as in poor taste.
i dont really know how to articulate this but its crazy just how many people dont even realize they dont care about female characters. all their faves are men. they never talk about girls without being led into it. and when you try to point this out to them they try to defend themselves that their faves are just the archetypes they like, despite clearly not caring when that same archetype is a woman. like i feel like at a certain point it is your problem with the common denominator if you cant find a single female character to enjoy
