It's tough man.

Worst part is that I can still remember it.

Heavy vent ahead, mentions of grooming, dni if it triggers you.

So when I was like 12 this person we're gonna call Nicky was a close friend who I used to talk to in G+, we became close bffs, but Nicky started asking for me to draw things between our characters, in rp's things would turn nsfw, things I didn't know. Nicky would ask for me to draw one of my ocs in underwear and in sexual situations. I was forced, but i gave in since I was 12, I didn't know better.

Things escalated, we were a couple for a few months, and Nicky would send pictures of themselves n4k3d, to me, because this person at this point had made me think it was normal, and they wanted me to also send those type of pictures. I didn't.

I recall a conversation going horribly bad, they talked about how they wanted to f4ck me with a yknow what attached to their pelvis. I didn't answer yes, I was unsure, I was scared, but i never said anything.

Things kept going on like that for several months, but we broke up, both going different ways. I was informed by their part that they were on psychiatric therapy and lookout, that they wouldn't return anymore.

At 12, I was "brainwashed" to think that nsfw at my age was ok, but that wasn't the nail in the coffin, I saw things I wish I could forget, I saw things my dad did that to this day still disgust me. Why did I see that? It's no surprise that from a young age I've stayed awake pretty late, since I can remember starting my teen years. And at midnight I usually needed to go to the bathroom, but what I saw was far worst, something my eyes just couldn't believe.

I saw bad things, him doing the yucky on the living room without doing it on private, 12/13 year old me just hated that. I just wanted to use the bathroom, that was all i wanted to do.

And now, the present.

Things have been talked out, and some have been fixed. But the memories are still there, and they ain't leaving no matter how hard I try to get rid of them.

I don't wish on no one to go through grooming, it's horrible, and it's something that can affect you.

But I know that from the things I've seen, I would never do what Nicky did to me.

Maybe I'm the person who I am now because of the things I've seen throughout the years, I really dont care about nsfw, at this point it's unfortunately normal, I don't bat an eye anymore, that and to other areas of nsfw.

(THIS IS NOT FACT, IT’S JUST MY PERSONAL VIEW. Keep that in mind! How I interpret media is probably different than your own perception! This also has one  vague personal anecdote about my past with abuse as forewarning.)

(Also I avoid canon names as to keep this shit out of tags so this may sound incredibly dorky, apologies.)

 This by no means is meant to discredit or harm abuse victims- please take this as a “bringing some nuance” to the discussion rather than an outright attack on someone’s ideas/beliefs. If I wanted to or planned to attack people- I’d reblog them and go off. This is a discussion on the concept, not anyone specifically. If you see the ship as abuse personally- that’s your perspective. I have no right to tell you not to think that way and this mini-essay does not carry that intent.

C*tradora is a ship people are starting to consider abusive and while I agree in present context it might be to a degree (though I’d call it TOXIC, not abusive) I feel like people forget that things between both of them can very much change.

 Abuse cycles only exist when the line is indoctrinated into believing that their behavior is right- when it’s a situation where they can’t find outside support to break that thinking... though Cat has two key characters who will most likely push her to a redemption arc- Scorpy and Entra. Both can be easily re-goodguy-ised due to their already neutral stances on the horde vs. everyone else, and it’s clear Cat relies on them both to some degree as she’d have never fully gotten the chance to overcome BADMOM without them.That can lead into Cat trying to make amends with Ador- bringing up her abandonment issues, possibly finding her homeland- finding out that she’s the princess of beasts or idk attractive cat people. It’s a very open plotline if you look at her original iteration from the 80s.

 Sidenote- this argument was a common one back when barnmates was released and people shouted that lap//idot was abusive when it really wasn’t. It was toxic, that is until Peri learned to respect Lapis’ identity and allowed Lapis to approach her on her own merit. It took true redemption to finally push both of them to their true selves- to true recovery. Both had to lose everything before they could remotely consider healing, be it limb enhancers or having to flee to the moon out of fear. (Even if their progress wasn’t really shown, rushed writing of a subplot is a valid crit. of their relationship.)

 The abuser in that ship was neither of the two involved- it was the abuse they suffered from their upbringing, from homeworld, which is very similar to the evil horde. In ALL of their cases, they only learn and heal once AWAY from their abusers, the narrative of “cat is becoming an abuser BAD SHIP” is one that is very.. understandable to some extent, but also sort of harmful to people who suffered parental abuse or other forms of systematic abuse. It’s saying “this pair is bad- all people who were abused will become abusers” and that’s frankly untrue and very nihilistic. I’d say if you’re a victim who never got help/didn’t fully recover long after escaping, you have a higher probability of becoming an abuser or showing abusive tendencies, but the notion that Cat WILL become an abuser or IS becoming one is highly flawed IN MY OPINION.

 I’d argue that cat struggles with being toxic herself while in the horde, though once she distances herself she’ll become less and less consumed by it. We won’t see this until we see more of the show- it’s only the FIRST SEASON, so making big assumptions like “this ship will ALWAYS be abusive” is incredibly shallow. This isn’t an issue you can apply black and white thinking to- it’s an incredibly grey sort of relationship. Likewise- cat is still a TEENAGER (I know it’s hard to remember with some animation styles) and until you hit a certain age (it varies from 18-21, it’s an ongoing argument I’d rather not open up as I have a very individual based belief that it’s all on your personal development rather than age) who is living under AN ABUSIVE DICTATORSHIP where they intentionally brainwash these youngins into being super soldiers. It’s very much implied that cat was abused more heavily for developing feelings for her equal, hence why BADMOM was so keen on abusing cat. It’s why she was seen as “poisoning” Ador and was responsible for behavior Ador did that she was by no means in control of.

Alright, anecdote time because abuse and abandonment issues are like.. a big thing with my past. I used to, when I was in an abusive relationship/friendship, do what Cat does to some degree- when I could escape I didn’t. When I could do the right thing I didn’t. When I could hold my own view on the world I didn’t. When everyone told me I could get away from the abuse I didn’t and yknow why?

 It’s easier to let it keep happening while being fully aware it happens. Hence why Cat KNOWING BADMOM was abusing them was such a hit in the face. Cat is a VICTIM, she doesn’t know anything better than what she has and the thought of having NOTHING is far more horrifying than the “comfort” of your normalcy- which is far from normal, it’s abuse. As an outsider, even as a possible victim yourself, it can seem so.. irrational for someone to keep going back, it can seem like they’re just reveling in the “power” aligning with abusers as a victim can have, but it’s anything but that. Sure- you can ham it up and act like that’s your intention, that you’re no victim, that you’re just “doing what’s right” but in the end all you’re doing is admitting you’ve fallen to the parasitic existence that is being a true abuser.

 What happens when the victim, the host, is subject to repeated failures in the eyes of an abuser? You’re abandoned, thrown away. You’re demoted, mocked, called a “traitor” and left to fend for yourself. (In a hypothetical horde that is. Real life isn’t as theatrical... I’d hope.)  Those people who wanted to help you may not be around still- you may have scared them off, they may have forgotten about you, they may have given up. Though in time alone you start seeing the world for what it is, eventually people come back once they see you’re away from your controller- you begin healing. People will return, just not the people you expect to- not your abuser, not your abuser’s abuser. Friends, people who saw the good in you but couldn’t handle seeing you destroy yourself or others for a twisted, sick abuser.

 Though, with healing comes guilt, and with guilt comes understanding. The road to redemption isn’t a single action, it’s a chain that starts once you realize how messed up your situation is. I see that in Cat- starting with when she gave Ador her sword back, admitting without her she has no purpose to her abuser, no purpose for herself. “Letting go” of her feelings for Ador is not literal- it’s never that simple, they fester- it’s a sign that the grasp her abuser had on her is starting to break, so she has to do more drastic things to justify her actions, she has to desperately find some form of “usefulness” to the horde otherwise Ador was right. Otherwise BADMOM was, to some twisted degree, right. Cat is, by the definition of the Horde- weak, because she LOVES her lifelong teammate, her role model, her best friend. Love is not allowed under the rule of the Horde as it means she’d turn on them if it meant helping who she loved, so that was routinely beat into her. Ador never showed the same “weakness” in her- she could ignore her feelings and get results, she was always useful to the horde and losing her to her discovering she is capable of feeling things the horde deems unfit made her undesirable to the big bad guy.

 If I am proven wrong and cat is later on shown to be 100% abusive, then yes- I won’t defend the ship at all on that. Though in the current state it’s a far more complex situation than “is cat an abuser” or not.

This sounds like a youtube script I know, so I’ll leave you with this last thought:

We can’t mend an abuser, but we can clean off the toxicity from a victim, thus preventing good people from becoming that which torments them. It’s not going to be solved by asking people to leave their situations- it takes a lot more effort to push someone to their own conclusions which is ultimately the best way to help someone caught in that sort of situation. You cannot force someone blinded by an abuser to “see the truth” if they refuse to, though you can influence their views and offer perspective to a situation they once saw as black and white.

  In the end- the true evil is the system and parental figures these characters were raised by, not each other. I hope this could bring even just a little grey thought to those reading.

The night ended up psychologically rougher than Prowl would have liked. An Insecticon showed up. It was survivable, but it made the already hard-to-watch content harder.

But he didn’t have to leave the room. That’s progress.

At this point Prowl’s actively hoping for one of the villains to be playing a wildly manipulative long con, because the alternative is that he’s been successfully brainwashed, and Prowl’s having a hard time facing that idea.

Harbinger!Alto AU

yeah yeah I know it's a Thing and it's got some Bad Fics but hear me out {This is a Really Long Post whoops} [ Contains Major Plot Spoilers for Stella Glow ] Alright so game starts as it does normally, Lisette's telling kids a story and later Alto goes out into the woods and finds Hilda, and they have a chat, and stuff happens. Hilda doesn't recognize him, but she gets a Feeling. Game proceeds as usual, Hilda goes to crystallize Mithra and Lisette gets Anime Powers and Hilda realizes that Alto is DEFINITELY the Conductor, and when she calls for a retreat she uses those cutscene teleportation powers and takes Alto with her. He panics for a while & refuses to listen to her/the Harbingers, but eventually Hilda explains the whole Conductor thing (can you imagine? Hilda actually explaining stuff? Wild) and while Alto doesn't necessarily believe/trust her, he has to admit it DOES make some amount of sense, and he calms down a bit. Eventually she explains the whole Elc thing and the crystallization, and eventually Alto agrees to help, but that's details and characterization stuff I'm not plotting out rn. Also at some point early on Alto tunes himself and meets Elc and they have a chat, that's probably what helps him start to trust Hilda & agree to work with the Harbingers, though he still doesn't like the whole crystallization thing. Meanwhile, Klaus finds Lisette in Mithra and takes her back to the capital, and she agrees b/c she's a Witch now and she can't NOT help, really, she's the only water witch after all, and also because it gives her a chance to maybe find and save Alto. I'm gonna go ahead and say her whole inability to sing arc kinda sorts itself out b/c Alto's missing/in danger, and cliche dictates that Lisette gets her Realization in such a situation, so she's able to deal with her feelings when it starts causing significant problems. Also, since Alto's not around to do the whole tuning thing, the witches have to figure out their problems on their own. I already talked about Lisette, and I'm gonna say she lowkey takes his place here? She can't tune, obviously, but Lisette likes helping people, and she's a kind person, so she's probably offer to listen/help when she can and stuff. Popo's insecurities are easy enough to deal with when they crop up, after a bit of poking to get Popo to open up. The big Tension Point with Lisette and Popo is Lisette lowkey projecting Alto onto her, b/c when they realize Alto's helping their Enemy of his own free will Lisette's convinced he's like, brainwashed or something similar to what happened with Popo. Sakuya's a bit harder (and her intro arc is where they really come to realize the whole Feelings Can Cause Problems Thing) and I'm not 100% sure how they help her out, but afterwards Lisette convinces her and Popo to have annual Group Therapy Sessions where they talk about feelings n stuff to try and stay ahead of any problems (which causes problems in itself, probably, but they deal.) Mordi is also tricky, but in the end the Power of Friendship pulls through. Alto and Lisette, when they run into each other, actually DO try to have conversations where they explain what's going on, but they're always interrupted by someone else who isn't willing to listen to the other side. For some reason I really want a scene where Alto (as the most unrecognizable Harbinger, b/c this'd be early on so the only person in the Capital who'd recognize him would be Lisette) post-self-tuning goes sneaks into the castle to steal the tuning knife, and runs into Klaus and they recognize each other. Alto runs away before Klaus can react. Aside from adding tension, it also gives an explanation as to why Hilda doesn't just eXPLAIN THINGS TO EVERYONE. Or have Hilda recognize Klaus at some point pre-story or early on. Just, SOMETHING. Please. Other character relationship notes: Rusty basically goes Big Brother on Lisette because #relatable, and he's also like, even more pissed at the Harbingers b/c wow, really?? Again??? Dante and Alto are still hella rivals, but it's...slightly...more brotherly. Dante tends to rag on Alto for sneaking into the capital to check on Lisette so often, and Alto tries to explain the whole family thing. When Dante doesn't really get the connection thing Alto tries to explain using like, Dorothy as an example, and it goes something like this: A: if Dorothy was about to be hit by an attack she couldn't block but you could, wouldn't you jump in, even if you might get hurt?? D: ? No? Dorothy's at her best when she's getting revenge, plus she'd probably kill me for taking the hit. Plus why would I jump in and willingly get hurt?? A: ... Dorothy's the annoying little sister Alto has a love/hate relationship with, and if he's projecting Lisette onto her (especially after she takes off her hood) it's nobody's business but his own Hrodulf is Team Dad and you can pry that headcanon from my cold dead hands And yeah that's basically it?? Oh wait one more thing - Hilda's tuning still happens late game. Alto knows he's a conductor, and asks Hilda about tuning HER, and she explains the whole clock thing and how she wants to have it as a safety net or something. So yeah no broken songs early on rip. Anyways so, shit's going down and going down HARD, probably during the attack on Lambert (yknow, when Alto's an idiot and tries to single handedly take down the entire angel army. Yeah that still happens.) or some other such super climactic moment, and her song is what turns the tide and prevents everyone from dying. As usual. God her songs are so broken. Everyone still teams up to do the endgame stuff, except Ana lives because fuck you game, and if i can think of a work around Hrodulf lives too.

Did you see JOSEPH SEED from FAR CRY walking around Limbo? The CISMALE looks like ANDREW LINCOLN, and is (physically) FORTY FOUR years old. I’ve heard he can be WISE but also CRUEL. He’s been here WITH his memories as a PREACHER & LEADER at THE CHURCH OF EDEN for FOUR MONTHS. I heard they’re still trying to figure out how they ended up in Limbo.

picking joseph up after the events of fc new dawn but somehow upon coming to limbo he’s back to his age when fc5 happened.

at the end of new dawn it seemed like he regretted his actions but having the clock turned back for him is making him feel pretty damned confident that god is telling him “there’s nothing to regret”

oh yeah ok just a quick recap joseph is apparently a prophet of some sort? like we’re made to believe he’s just a psycho religious nut in fc5 but then it turns out like no, he IS hearing a voice, and it IS telling him the future (he literally predicted the nuclear holocaust and the arrival of cap from new dawn), and there’s obviously something freaky going on because there’s apples that apparently read a person’s soul?? and when they’re eaten you either get powers or turn into a monster depending on if you have a pure heart or whatever?? idk man crazy shit happened alright, and joseph ain’t your run of the mill lunatic.

but he is a lunatic, he still killed his own baby, started a cult, killed/kidnapped/tortured people, etc etc all in a day’s work, am i right?

hc: his wife’s name was faith, and that’s why he kept drugging and brainwashing young women and calling them faith. he was already a little bit crazy, plus he heard the voice from a young age, but losing his wife in a freak car accident is what pushed him over the edge into his “this is all part of god’s plan” kick.

ANYWAY now that he’s in limbo (gonna leave the how ambiguous in case we get a security captain from new dawn), he believes he was sent here by god to spread his message, but despite planning to do things differently and repent for his sins, and despite all his talk of regretting the things he’d done, he fell right back into his old ways.

obviously limbo isn’t some locked down cult town tho, it’s because joseph is doing things more subtly this time.

opened up a church that to most people sort of seems like a pretty normal church. maybe a little run down but nothing immediately strange about it. some of his sermons are a little eccentric to most people. there’s exclusive sermons for only the “most dedicated” members that are more strongly worded and targeted forms of indoctrination to the beliefs he wants to instill.

still using drugs, namely bliss to control folks, he’s just adapted more traditional methods of getting his product out on the streets. it also just so happens that most of the people in the exclusive sermons are hooked on this drug, which is a nifty coincidence...

has a new “faith” as sort of his drug pushing second in command, first lady, mob wife type of figure, but still feels strongly about faith seed / rachel jessop, so he doesn’t call her that. (i’m gonna add this as a wanted connection soon).

very charismatic. with his new strategy, to most people he probably just seems like a good guy preaching the word. only the people that really know him or know his type can really spot that there’s anything fishy.

as far as ships go, romance would probably be exclusive to his new gal mentioned above, but he will have convinced her that it’s important that he’s “open, available, and of use” to anyone who needs him, however they need him, in order to spread their message even further. yeah it gives me the creeps to write, too lol

Dad hadn't talked to papa for ages.

Ever since their fight, things had been tense. But then the Sokovia Accords came into play. And they fought.

-Flashback-

Everyone started plummeting at each other, no sign of retreat in their eyes.

"STOP!!" I yell, watching my family fight.

"STOP OR ILL DO IT!"

Everyone's heads quickly look towards me, a knife at my stomach.

"Ash don-"

"Dad, shut up." I glare at Iron Man himself, feeling the tears falling down my stone cold face.

"You guys don't fight. You shouldn't. T'challa." I turn my head towards him. "Bucky has been brainwashed by a secret organization called HYDRA for the past 70 years. He has been forced to involuntarily kill people.

"Miss I-"

"Tchalla, I know you believe it was Bucky who killed your father, but it was a man named Baron Zemo. Totally different from my friend. Please, don't kill Bucky." I give him a sorrowful smile from my perch atop the truck.

"Now, getting to this fight." I pause, looking at them in the eyes "Honestly, it's more immature than the boys who fight over me at school. It's ridiculous. Yes, we do need freedom, and yes, we do need someone to watch over us. Frankly, I think that the accords have good reasoning and intent behind them, but they were drawn up too quickly. We need someone to watch over us, not control us." I see tony nod his head, Everyone else slowly agreeing.

"I'm going to meet with the council in a few weeks to redraw the accords. Please, keep that in mind."

"Now, to that fact that I can kill my self right now." I look at Peter. "Peter, tie your hands behind your back."

"Why-!"

"Kid, just do what she says." Tony looks at him, his mask retracting.

"Yes Mr.Stark."

"Anyways, stop. Stop fighting right now. Hug each other I don't care, just stop fighting. I know at this rate I'm entirely rambling but I don't fucking care. You guys fighting is like me fighting the other part of me. The part that wants to slaughter everyone in a 10-foot radius at times. Hug, kiss, joke just fucking Stop." I push the knife in a little bit.

"Or it goes deeper." I smile at the pain. They all know I have a high tolerance for it, and that I like it. It's weird.

They all hug and laugh, Tony and Steve kissing awkwardly before looking at me, Tony's head resting on Steve's shoulder. I take the knife out quickly adding a piece of gauze on before I go and jump onto Bucky.

"Hey kid. Who are you again?"

I smile at him sadly. 'Oh, just your best friend before Steve.' Oh, I wish I could say that. It'd be amazing. He might remember me. How he used to say we were dating just to get the boys off my trail.

"Old friends. Stupid." I look and smile at him.

"Ashlynd?"

"Bucky, I don't think you know who you're-" Steve starts to interrupt.

"You were frozen when we were 7. They took you away into some building and said you'd be gone forever." He smiles at me.

"Yup. Then I was-"

"Defrosted by S.H.E.I.L.D., where you were put into the adoption system and adopted by Stark, and then Steve found you... and you two found me..."

"Yup. Anyways, AHK is kinda tired since its three AM When she's writing this. Maybe thatS because it's 3 am and she's listening to it's been a long long time. Speaking of." I ramble off to Bucky, giving the author a sympathetic look.

"Oh stop caring about me you two are adorable!" AHK yells at us from behind peter before disappearing into a plane that then takes off.

"Anyways..." I start singing Harry James' version of its been a long long time.

When it gets to the chorus, Bucky kisses my cheek each time I sing it. By this time everyone has left and it's just us out on the tarmac.

"Yknow, you've always been my baby. Those guys really had no idea how much of a sweetheart you are." He smiles as he puts my forehead to his, putting his hands around my waist.

"hm. Is that so?" I smile, Resting my head on his chest listening to his heart beat. (Tired of feeling never enough)

"Yup. My little gumdrop." He calls me my old nickname, kissing the top of my head again.

"I love you." He says, mumbling it against my hair.

"I-I" i can barely speak. Yeah, i know we just kissed but it's something we normally did as kids. It was a joke most of the time anyways. But he actually said I love you. Omg. "I-I... uhm..."

I shove my head into his chest, my face heating up. "You okay doll? Did I say something wrong? I'm so sorry baby." He hugs me closer,mumbling soothing words against my ear.

I reach up, pulling his ear down to my mouth.

"I-I love you to Jamie."
