Iron Man (1968) #13
#the way that Tony always ends up questioning whether or not it’s immoral for him to be happy and have relationships with other people#and ends up just sabotaging his own personal life#we’ve gotten stuff before with him being conflicted over having to divide his time between being Iron Man and being Tony Stark#and whether or not one of them does more good so it’s selfish of him to spend time as the other#and we’ve gotten stuff with his weak heart and how he thinks it’s wrong for him to have close relationships when he could die at anytime#and hurt the other person#(which is a situation he makes worse by straining his heart as Iron Man)#now it’s about whether having feelings for other people would impede his duties as Iron Man#this all just comes across as Tony specifically having issues with just being a person#rather than anything inherent to being a superhero#and it’s great I’m finding him really interesting#also I appreciate Janice’s line that ‘if your bodyguard were here I’d kiss him… armor plate or not!’#I think just because I’m only reading through Tony’s solo comics right now and not his Avengers appearances#I’m not really seeing people be friendly with Iron Man so much#marvel#tony stark#janice cord#my posts#comic panels

🕸 Nerd | Peter Parker 🕸
Pairing: Peter Parker x reader
Warnings: none
Summary: Peter running into you at the Avengers Tower turns out to be the best thing that’s ever happened to you. . .
________________________________________________
“Oh! I’m so sorry.”
I stumble backward with a strangled yelp, managing to grab onto the corner of the wall just in time to stop myself from falling on my ass. “What the hell?” I look up, ready to chew out whoever just ran into me only to bite my tongue when my eyes land on a panicked looking Peter Parker.
His brown hair is disheveled and his eyes are wide and even though he almost just bulldozed right over I can’t help but think that he looks rather funny being embarrassed and flushed like this.
“I’m so sorry!” he apologizes again, reaching out as if to help me stand but I’ve long since regained my balance, so I wave him off.
“It’s-“ I swallow, hating the effect his brown eyes are having on me-“ fine. I’m fine.”
If he were anyone else I would have given him a piece of my mind because I’m in an exceptionally bad mood at the moment, but he’s just so sweet I can’t be mad at him.
My dad’s told me stories about him (he secretly loves him even though he claims he’s annoying and overly excited all the time) and even said we’d probably get along really well, but up until now we haven’t ever met each other.
“Are you sure?” he asks, scratching the back of his neck nervously.
I sigh and nod. “Yes, I’m sure.“
“Good. . . Good.” He nods as well and looks around awkwardly before snapping his eyes back to me. “I’m Peter, by the way.”
The fight between me and my dad momentarily forgotten, I take his awkwardly outstretched hand and shake it with a gentle smile. “I know.”
His eyebrows shoot up in surprise. “You do?”
I release his hand and watch him fumble with the straps of his backpack. “Yeah. My dad talks about you all the time.”
“Y-Your dad?” he stammers which makes my lips twitch upward again.
“Uh-huh. Does Tony Stark ring a bell?” I ask and the way his eyes widen is almost comical.
“Your dad is Tony Stark?” he exclaims loudly which makes one of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents nearby look in our direction. Realizing he might have been just a little too loud, he lowers his voice sheepishly and hisses through his teeth, “Tony Stark? The Tony Stark.”
I roll my eyes playfully, knowing now what my dad meant when he told me about Peter’s abnormal enthusiasm, and pull him aside when the aforementioned agent walks by us to get to the elevator. “Yes, the Tony Stark is my dad.”
“So you’re Y/N,” he guesses with a bright smile.
I chuckle and drop my chin to my chest to hide the growing blush on my cheeks. I’m not surprised he knows my name because if my dad tells me about Peter I’m sure he also tells Peter about me, but the way he just said my name with that goofy smile on his faces makes my stomach flip. “The one and only, yes.”
“Wow,” he gasps quietly. “So is it true that you have your own Iron Man suit?”
Looking back up I feel another wave of heat rush to my cheeks at the amazement on his face. “Yeah, but dad never really lets me use it. . . Says it’s too dangerous.”
The fact that he can fly into literal gunfire but I can’t even go out for a test flight on my own is the reason we got into a fight just before my run-in with Peter.
It’s not like I want to fight crime— well, maybe I do but only small crimes like car jacking or vandalism— but I can’t even go out and fly on my own because I apparently have a target on my back 24/7 just because Tony is my dad.
I feel another wave of irritation threatening to wash over me, but then I notice the way Peter’s eyes light up at the revelation and I once again forget all about the fight.
“Do you- do you want to see it?” I ask, cringing at how unsure I sound. I barely know him and he might not even want to hang out with me, but much to my surprise, Peter nods excitedly and yanks on the straps of his backpack.
“Do I— Yes, of course! I’d love to see it. Where is it? Is it in your room? Or do you have your own lab or something? Hey, have you ever met Black Widow before? She’s awesome, but you probably know that because you live here and she’s here all the time and your dad is literally Tony Stark so you must know all the Avengers. . .”
Laughing at his rambling, I tug on his open flannel and lead him to the elevator.
A knock on the window makes me look up from the book in my lap and I smile almost instantly when my eyes land on who’s dangling outside of it, upside down and without his signature mask.
“Spiderman,” I tease when I open the window to let him inside. “To what do I owe this pleasure?”
He was just here yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that one. He’s basically been here every day since we met a month ago, but I’m not complaining.
He’s sweet and funny and undeniably cute, but what he could possibly want this time of night I don’t know. It’s also a bit weird that he’s coming in through the window rather than the front door the way he usually does.
Peter grins and climbs in through the window. “Oh just stopping by.”
I scoff playfully and close the window again to shut out the chill of the night he dragged in. “You know my dad won’t be happy when he finds out you’re sneaking in to see me.”
At the mention of Tony, he cringes. “Well. . . I won’t tell if you won’t.”
“Ha, fat chance! I haven’t talked to him in a couple of days because he’s holed up in his lab with Bruce,” I explain.
Peter makes a sound between a grunt and a hum to acknowledge what I just said before taking off his backpack and jumping on my bed.
“Hey, no!” I exclaim, yanking on his leg to get him off the bed. “Your suit is all dirty and I just changed my sheets.”
Peter laughs, but gets to his feet anyway before looking around helplessly. “Well, where am I supposed to sit then?”
Looking over his soot stained suit again, I sigh and point at my desk chair. “Just wait here for a second.”
He does what he’s told and lets his brown eyes follow me as I make my way to the door of my room. I slip out, telling F.R.I.D.A.Y. to keep an eye on Peter whilst I make my way down the hallway to a supply closet.
I open it and pull out a hoodie and a pair of Avengers sweatpants. They match what I’m wearing save for my initials stitched on the chest of my hoodie.
“Alright, so— Peter?” I stop when I return to my room and he isn’t where I left him.
“Y-Yeah! Right here,” he answers, popping out from behind my suit in the corner. “Sorry, I just noticed that you updated some stuff and I wanted to take a closer look.”
I chuck the clothes at him and smile fondly. “You’re such a nerd.”
He catches the clothes, if not a bit clumsily and pulls an offended face. “Hey! I’m not a nerd.”
I raise my eyebrows incredulously and plop down on my bed. “Oh, yes you are. You’re like the king of nerds.”
Peter scoffs and starts stripping out of his suit right down to his underwear, making my brain short circuit for a moment before I quickly avert my eyes.
“Okay fine. I might be a nerd but if anyone is the king of nerds it’s you. We’re literally the same age and you’ve already graduated from high school,” he argues with a chuckle, obviously not noticing the sight his shirtless chest and abdomen have on me.
I swallow thickly, trying to get rid of the sight of his abs in my mind before replying quietly. “We’re sixteen It’s hardly impressive graduating at that age. There was this girl last year who graduated at thirteen.”
The mattress dips as Peter takes a seat next to me and when I catch a glimpse of his sweatpants covered leg I know it’s safe to look up again without catching another glimpse of his shirtless body. “Don’t do that,” he says seriously. “Don’t put yourself down like that. You’re incredibly smart and I know you’ll go on to do great things in life.”
Warmth spreads in the pit of my stomach and when I look up to meet Peter’s eyes I realize that he’s already staring at me intently. His eyebrows are set in a barely noticeable frown and his piercing brown eyes dart between my own with an unfamiliar look in them.
Trying to diffuse the sudden tension between us, I whisper, “That was so cheesy,” but it comes out more breathy than I intended.
“Yeah?” he says lowly, without breaking eye contact. “Well, it’s still true.”
So much for diffusing the tension. . . I can practically hear my own heart pounding in my chest and when Peter’s eyes flick down to where I subconsciously just licked my lips, I feel a shudder run through my body.
We’ve had little flirtatious moments before, teasing each other relentlessly or tackling each other with excessive hugs, but there’s never been this silence between us.
This unspoken attraction and yet I can’t help but revel in it.
I like having his attention on me and I like the way he laughs even when I tell a horrible joke, so without thinking much of it, I close my eyes and lean forward to connect our lips in a short peck.
Peter freezes and when I pull back I think I might have made a mistake, so I hold off on opening my eyes just yet, but then his lips are back on mine and he’s moving them gently, coaxing me into kissing him back.
I gasp and raise my hands to touch his jaw, pulling him closer until we’re awkwardly lying on the bed with our feet still dangling off the end.
Peter is half on top of me, his hands on my waist and his hip pressed against the side of mine, but before the kiss can deepen he pulls back and presses his forehead against mine.
My lips tingle and I instantly miss the feeling of his lips on my own, but I have to catch my breath, so I keep my eyes shut and enjoy the feeling of his breath on my cheek.
“I—“
“Look—“
I chuckle when we both try to speak at the same time and open my eyes to find him already watching me fondly.
“Please, say what you were going to say,” I whisper, slipping my hands from his jaw and to the back of his neck.
Peter smiles shyly and averts his eyes for a second to gather his thoughts. “I-I actually stopped by because. . . well, I’ve liked you for quite some time now and we’re really great friends, but I was always to afraid to say something, but then Aunt May told me to just go for it and I was in the neighborhood tonight so I thought— I wanted to— I was going to—“
“Oh my God, Peter, breathe!” I scold quietly, smiling up at him when his eyes meet mine again.
“Right,” he laughs softly. “Sorry. You see— I came by because I. . . Iwaswonderingifyou’dliketogoonadatewithmesometime.”
“I—What?” I laugh, running my fingerst through the hair at the back of his neck.
Peter huffs and squeezes his eyes shut for a moment. “Will you— I mean, would you like to go on a date with me sometime?” His voice is quite, barely above a whisper, but I hear him and the smile that instantly lights up my face makes him smile, too.
“I would love to go on a date with you,” I say and before I can take it back (not that I ever would) Peter’s leaning down once more to connect our lips in another kiss.
His hands roam my waist, respectfully of course, and I tug him closer by the back of his neck, wanting to deepen the kiss when, out of nowhere, my door flies open and we’re forced to break apart to look at whoever just burst in.
“What’s going on here?!”
“Oh shit! I-I can explain,” Peter yelps, scrambling off me.
I just chuckle and let my head fall back onto the bed. “Ever heard of knocking, dad?”

Peter is honestly such a cutie. He didn’t deserve what happened to him at the end of No Way Home.

Tom! Peter Parker x Stark! Male Reader
☆ — MASTERLIST — ☆
REQUEST: I need a Itimidating Reader x Tom! Peter Parker. Like reader could be Captain American or Iron Man's son and he has been dating Peter secretly cause you know Peter is shy about things and doesn't want to make things big. So reader holds back but he had enough when one days he witnessed Thompson and other bullies doing the worst to Peter. So he does what any boyfriend will do, show those bullies their place and maybe maybe, Avengers comes and gives a piece of their mind as well to those bullies. Cause I like Avengers being a found family with them being protective of their youngest member 😭😭🤌🏻🤌🏻
CONTENT/WARNINGS: Fluff, slight angst, reader is Tony starks son, mentions of Morgan and Pepper, Ned being terrible at secrets, MJ supports, mature language, slight kissing, short shot, flash is a bully, mentions of violence, mentions of hero work, teenage love, school stuff.
TAGS: @nobodylivesson
WC: 2k
NOTES: I tried my best to suit to your request, I wrote this one late at night and was probably half asleep after completing it 🥲, but either way I hope you really enjoy it! I wasn’t able to bring in the rest of the superhero family since I didn’t know how to slip it in without going off track. But either way I love the whole superfamily fics and the concept of Stony adopting Peter ( ´∀`) those are my comfort fics.
Peter wasn’t ashamed of who he was dating he just didn’t make it a big deal that he was dating Starks son. When Y/n joined the school he had already known him from the time that he was working at Starks internship. He’d see him around the lab either helping his father on a few side projects or just to bother Tony into leaving work and getting a proper meal and rest.
While Tony was away it left both Peter and Y/n on their own and giving them time to actually know each other. Their side conversations turned into flirting and then light touches until Y/n was the first to make the move on Peter and asking him out. Peter was a shy kid and never got the attention from people he liked nor was he good at socializing without stuttering or hesitating on his conversations.
Ever since Y/n joined Peters school the two were closer than ever and enjoyed their time together. Peter kept their relationship a secret in order to prevent the other students from finding out that he’s dating Tony Starks kid. Even if he told anyone about it they wouldn’t believe that he’s dating someone like Y/n.
It didn’t take long for Ned to find out that Peter was dating.
It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Ned, his best friend since childhood. The reason he never told him was because he knew how terriable his friend was at keeping secrets. When he found out that he was the cities hero there were times that he almost slipped up and exposed his secret to those around him and always had to remind his friend that no one was suppose to know that he’s Spider-Man.
Ned had caught the two making out on Peters bed.
Peter had forgotten about inviting Ned over for a weekend sleepover due to him being distracted by Y/n coming over and having dinner with both him and his aunt May. After that they’ve left the table to spend time in Peters room which resulted into them making out like most teenagers would and then getting caught by Ned.
His poor friend could only stare in shock when he found out and after a couple of minutes of shock he finally started to ask them question such as; “How did you meet? When did you start dating? Are you really dating Starks son?”
The sleepover turned out to be a very interesting night for Ned.
Ned was still getting used to the fact that Peter was dating Y/n, but Tony wasn’t too happy about the fact that his son was dating Peter the kid that he chose to pass down his work to. Y/n did work with Tony but the kid was never interested in becoming an inventor or an engineer and instead focused more on things that made him feel happy. Tony never pressured his son to take over and instead accepted his goals and dreams.
Peter expected Tony to interrogate him when finding out that he’s dating his son, but instead of being asked on why he was dating his son. His question so we’re mainly aimed towards Y/n who ate in silence during their dinner together with Pepper sitting next to Tony and his sister Morgan sitting across from Peter.
“Why him?”
“Because I like him.”
“Why not some other guy or girl?”
“Do you not want me to date Peter?”
“I don’t want you distracting him from work.”
The conversation was mainly between Y/n and Tony while Pepper was kind enough to speak with Peter about school and his aunt and how they were doing, trying to keep both son and father from killing each other while having their first dinner. By the end of the day Peter became a favorite to the Stark family especially with Morgan who loved Peters attention and placed puzzle games with him winning the little girls heart over in less than seconds.
Things were going fine until the bullying picked up at school.
Flash had noticed how close Peter was being with Y/n during lunch and class hours, thinking that Peter was trying to get extra brownie points with Mr. Stark and befriending his son in order to get closer to the man. He knew that Starks kid was going to be in their school and had grown jealous by how close Peter was getting, ruining his opportunity to befriend Y/n.
When Y/n wasn’t around, Flash and his goons would quickly go after Peter. The good thing is that Peter was great at escaping and was always getting around from Flashes wrath, either running inside a full classroom during lunch hours or running outside where he’d climb onto the roof top in order to avoid Flash.
Peter never told Y/n and he never found out.
The bullying never happened when Y/n was around and whenever Flash approached them he’d always fake his emotions which Peter hated seeing. He could see through Flashes fake smiles and laughs when he conversed with Y/n, trying to act like he’s the most nicest person ever to meet.
Peter wasn’t the only one who saw through flash’s lies so did Y/n. He could see a liar from across the room and knew how they acted. He spent enough time working in his dads company to sniff out liars and had gotten very good at it.
It was the week that Y/n was suppose to work with his father on a new invention, testing them out and figuring out if they have potential to be sold to the public, but recently Y/n had joined a club with Peter and took place after school hours. He’d shoot his father a quick text that he wasn’t going to the lab and quickly rushed off to join the club in hopes of spending more time with Peter and their other members.
When entering the room he finds MJ and the other students sitting on a round table, discussing about their new plans for the club. His eyes search the room and doesn’t find Peter which makes him frown a little before sitting next to MJ. “Where’s Pete?” He whispers to her and noticed how her lips twitched into a smirk.
“Miss your little boyfriend already? Don’t you guys have all periods together?”
MJ had figured Peter and Y/n out in less than seconds when they first met resulting in Y/n befriending her. He rolls his eyes at her comment. “We aren’t always in class together…he has biology eighth period and I have history.” He mumbled out the last part knowing that he wasn’t really providing much and that he and Peter did in fact have majority of classes together.
“You guys are gross.” MJ comments with a grin on her face. “You two are perfect for each other.”
Y/n had dealt with MJ’s teasing for a long time that he’s grown used to it. He gives her a small nudge to the shoulder and focused back to the other who were still planing out this years activities within the club, writing things down and getting the teachers opinion. It went on for ten minutes at Y/n was the first to realize that Peter still hadn’t arrived which slowly started to worry Y/n. His instincts were telling him to go look for him.
“I’m going to the bathroom be back in a bit!” He tells the others with a smile before rushing out of the room and down the hall. Whenever Peter came late to the club he always told him before hand, either letting him know that its a spider thing or perhaps his aunt needed him he was always made aware until now.
He didn’t get anything from Peter and started to get worried as he searched the hallways. They were packed a few minutes ago with students getting ready to head home and now the halls were half empty with a few students lingering around and either attending their own club's or waiting on a ride or friend.
As he rounds the corner he noticed a small crowd of students up ahead, raising a brow as he decides to make his way over. It doesn’t take him long to recognize that familiar beat up backpack that Peter always carried. He’s told Peter many times that he could get him a new one since the one he had was already tearing up, but Peter always declined his offer since he wanted to be the one to earn it and claimed that his bag was still in ‘perfect’ condition and survivable.
The sound of someone colliding into the lockers makes him walk faster to the point where he’s jogging over and finding Peter with a pained look on his face. “Trying to win yourself another internship, Parker? One wasn’t enough?” The sound of Flashes voice gets Y/n’s attention.
Noticing the state that Peters in makes him frown.
“You’re always following Y/n around like a puppy, I bet he’s finding you annoying by now. He should hang around someone who isn’t boring.” Said Flash while Peter glared up at him and tried to get back up without being kicked down by one of his little goons again, before Flash could saying anything else a fist connects with his check, startling everyone when he stumbled back in shock.
“Hey—What the hell!?”
Flash had a hand against his bruised up cheek and turns to see who was responsible only to freeze in place when his eyes land on Y/n who was huffing angrily at him. He’s standing in front of Peter in a protective way while glaring at Flash. “Touch my boyfriend again and I’ll make sure to break your nose this time.” He speaks up.
His words catch everyone by surprise, but was surprises everyone is the fact that Y/n and dating Peter.
“Boyfriend?!”
Y/n smirks at Flashes shock. “Yeah and I love his annoying ass.” He points over his shoulder to where Peter is getting back up and blushing deeply by his words, wanting to roll his eyes. Once Y/n finishes his threats and Flash and his little goons run off he’s quick to turn around and face Peter. His angry expression quickly fading into one of worry as he approached Peter and quickly checks him. “Are you hurt anywhere did you break anything? I swear to god if he did I am going to fu—“
“I’m okay, I’m okay.” Peter is quick to cut in, chuckling a little before placing his hand on Y/n’s wrist and pulling his hands away form him, reassuring him that he’s fine. “Did you forget? I can heal pretty quick.” His words cause Y/n to pinch his shoulder. “You idiot! I don’t care if you can heal I was worried for you, why didn’t you tell me this was happening?”
“Because I can handle my own battles.” Peter mumbled in response which didn’t make Y/n any happier. “That doesn’t mean that you have to do them alone,. I mean what if something happened to you? Who was going to know or help?” He continued to rant out to Peter, pouring out his own feelings and frustrations towards Peter being a stubborn person.
Once he’s ranted and calmed down he placed his hands on Peters shoulders. “Please, tell me when something like this happens again. I won’t hesitate to punch Flash again.”
Peter slowly smiles and laughs. “Can’t believe you punched Flash, I always wanted to do that but never had the guts too. I was afraid that my strength would probably kill him.”
“Yeah, well it felt great doing it he was a pain in my ass.” Peter laughs at his boyfriends words. It was satisfying to see Flash getting punched and the look of surprise when he found out that they were dating each other.
Peter looks up to Y/n. “Flash knows about us and knowing him he’s gonna tell the entire school.” He was growing nervous at the idea of everyone knowing that he’s dating Starks kid only for Y/n to pull Peter into a quick kiss and smiling at him. “Let him tell everyone at least I can kiss you whenever I want without hiding it.” Peter admired Y/n for being so calm during situations like these.
“Think we should get to our club meeting?” Said Peter.
Y/n smiles with a nod. “Yeah, come on you were missing out on the fun plans we were making.” He takes Peters hand into his own and heads down the hall feeling better now that he’s able to hold Peters hand without needing to keep their relationship a secret anymore.

Hi!!!! I just read The One Who Stayed, and that was so good. Very good work. Could I request for a fluffy and a little smutty fic with Tony Stark x reader? :)
Of course! I’ve been wanting to do a Tony one.
Breaking through the iron shell
A shy new recruit joins the avengers and catches Tony’s attention. Determined to draw you out of your shell, Tony’s teasing and charm lead to unexpected sparks.
- fluff , slight smut.
The Avengers compound was overwhelming, to say the least. You’d been recruited for your engineering skills, but being in the same building as some of the greatest heroes in the world? That was enough to make your stomach churn with nerves.
You’d spent most of your first week keeping your head down, avoiding small talk, and burying yourself in the projects you’d been assigned. But Tony Stark wasn’t the kind of man to let someone go unnoticed.
It started with little things.
“Hey, genius,” Tony called one afternoon, leaning casually against the doorway to the lab where you worked. “You realize we have a coffee machine that does more than just sit there and look pretty, right? Go get yourself a cup. You’re gonna burn out those circuits, and I don’t just mean the ones on the desk.”
You froze mid-solder, heat rising to your face as you registered his presence. “I-I’m okay,” you stammered, keeping your eyes fixed on the tiny wires in front of you.
“Hmm,” Tony mused, stepping into the room. “Shy. Didn’t see that coming.”
You glanced up briefly, your heart pounding at the sight of him. Tony Stark was larger than life in person, his presence magnetic.
“I’m not shy,” you mumbled, though the flush on your face said otherwise.
He grinned, tilting his head as if considering you. “You’re not shy, huh? Then what do we call the mumbling, no-eye-contact thing? Modest? Reserved? Or are you just saving all the charm for the next guy who walks in?”
You let out a nervous laugh, unsure how to respond.
From that moment on, Tony seemed to make it his mission to draw you out of your shell.
He’d swing by your workspace daily, leaning over your shoulder to comment on your work. At first, his teasing left you flustered, but over time, you started to anticipate it. His compliments—hidden beneath layers of sarcasm—helped you feel like you belonged.
“You know,” he said one day, watching as you calibrated a new piece of tech, “I think you’re giving me a run for my money. Don’t get too good, though. I’ve got an ego to maintain.”
You smiled, a little more comfortable now. “Don’t worry, I don’t think I’ll outshine Iron Man anytime soon.”
“Flattery,” he said with a smirk. “Not necessary, but appreciated.”
It wasn’t until a late-night work session that things shifted between you.
You were finishing up a prototype when Tony walked in, a glass of scotch in his hand.
“Burning the midnight oil, huh?” he asked, his voice softer than usual.
You nodded, brushing a stray strand of hair out of your face. “Just wanted to get this done.”
Tony set his drink down and leaned on the workbench beside you. “You’ve been killing it, you know. I don’t say that lightly. Well, maybe I do, but this time I mean it.”
Your cheeks warmed at the compliment. “Thanks. That means a lot coming from you.”
He studied you for a moment, his expression thoughtful. “You’re different from the others,” he said. “Quiet, but not in a bad way. Makes me wonder what’s going on in that head of yours.”
You shrugged, suddenly feeling exposed under his gaze. “Just… trying to do my job.”
He reached out, gently tilting your chin so you’d meet his eyes. “You’re doing more than that, sweetheart.”
The intensity in his gaze made your breath hitch. There was something magnetic about the way he looked at you, as if you were the only person in the room.
The kiss was unexpected, but not unwelcome.
One moment, you were standing there, caught in his gaze. The next, his lips were on yours—soft, warm, and surprisingly tender.
You froze for a second, unsure of how to react, but when his hand moved to the small of your back, pulling you closer, you melted into him.
The kiss deepened, his free hand tangling in your hair as he pressed you against the workbench. Your hands found their way to his chest, the fabric of his shirt soft beneath your fingers.
When he finally pulled back, his forehead rested against yours, his breath warm against your skin.
“Too much?” he asked, his voice husky.
You shook your head, your cheeks flushed. “No. Definitely not.”
————————————————————————
The following weeks were a blur of stolen kisses and lingering touches. Tony’s teasing didn’t stop, but there was a new warmth to it now—a softness that made your heart race.
He didn’t just make you feel wanted; he made you feel seen.
And as you grew more confident, you found yourself teasing him back, matching his wit with your own.
“Careful, Stark,” you said one day, grinning as you adjusted the specs on a shared project. “Keep complimenting me, and I might start thinking I’m the genius here.”
He smirked, leaning close enough that you could feel his breath on your neck. “Oh, you are, sweetheart. But don’t forget who taught you everything you know.”
You rolled your eyes, but the warmth in your chest was undeniable.
Tony Stark had a way of breaking through your walls, and for the first time in your life, you were glad someone had.

I'm like 8 years too late, but oh well - I've had this Captain America Civil War rant stuck in my head for a while and I need to get it out after re-watching it. (This is gonna be long af, but bear with me).
I feel like a lot of people missed the actual point and plot of the movie (and the marketing definitely didn't help). The whole "team cap vs team iron man" stuff becomes irrelevant after like the first 20 minutes of the movie. But of course, it's still quite a big part of the movie and I'd like to take a moment to explore what I think, the different character motivations are around why they signed or didn't (or would / wouldn't).
The only reason Tony "I successfully privatised world peace" Stark signed the accords in the first place anyway is because of his massive survivors guilt complex which we see triggered by the woman who approaches him at the end of his speech to the MIT students. Like this man does not give a single shit about the government, and much like Steve Rogers, he just wants to keep people safe. Unlike Steve, however, he doesn't trust himself to do so and thinks of himself needing the be kept in check, for someone else to take the blame (though he'd probably internalise it anyway, let's be real).
Rhodey has always kind of been more on the side of the government, even if that meant going against Tony - think Iron Patriot - so it makes sense that he'd want to sign. He understands that a group as powerful and dangerous as the Avengers needs to be kept in check, but what he doesn't understand are the risks around that. In a perfect world, it would be fine, but unfortunately government systems are stupid and corrupt.
Peter was only really in the fight in the first place because he was a child blindly following this big celebrity guy he idolised. He didn't know enough about the situation to properly analyse it, just being fed and believing whatever Tony told him (and he had no reason to go against him, so why would he? This was his shot, he's been chosen by THE Tony Stark to help). "Mr Stark said you'd say that" "he said you're wrong, you think you're right, that makes you dangerous." I 100% believe that if Peter had read the accords, that he would have been on Steve's side anyway.
Vision is an embodiment of 'good' and 'peace' - essentially everything that Ultron was supposed to be, but wasn't. He has no reason to be against the accords if it will keep people safe and he makes the point during their conversation of "our very strength invites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict ... breeds catastrophe. Oversight ... oversight is not an idea that can be dismissed out of hand." It's also very much the beginning kind of puppy love between him and Wanda in this movie, meaning that he will want to protect her. No matter what. Even if it means "locking her in her room."
Nat was seriously one of the only people in this movie with a brain cell lol. I firmly believe that if the accords had been properly put in place, she would have followed them until she no longer thought the government's instructions were 'right' and would have gone against them anyway. Her main goal in this movie was trying to keep the Avengers, her family, together and ultimately do the 'right' thing.
T'challa didn't give one shit about the accords lmao, he's damn king. No, he was only there in the first place to take revenge on his father's death (which at the point of the airport fight scene he still thought it was Bucky's fault. He later discovers, after following Steve and Bucky to Siberia, that it's Zemo's, and locks him up).
Steve's concerns with the accords are valid, and honestly I wouldn't have signed them either. To be told "sign, retire, or get locked up" isn't really a big winner for me lol. And the thing is, Steve's done this. He fought in WW2, he got paraded around like some big hero while men died, and he did nothing. It wasn't until he went against orders, that he actually did something helpful (saved the captured 107th division in Azzano). So, no, he's not going to be side-lined when people out there need help. That's just not who he is.
Bucky had no part in the accords, and as soon as he got introduced into the movie, that plot point became irrelevant. He was framed by Zemo, and then used to rip the avengers apart. The accords was just another log to add to the fire at that point. He followed Steve because "till the end of the line" and all that. He literally, heartbreakingly, says "I don't know if I'm worth all this," but he follows anyway.
Scott, much like Peter, is kinda just happy to be there. He's following CAPTAIN FREAKING AMERICA into battle without hesitation. But like, let's be honest, given his whole movie and character, I very much doubt Scott would be on Tony's side if he had read the accords.
Clint got dragged out of freaking retirement for this shit, and he didn't actually get involved until after Team Cap already knew about Zemo. That's why he's there. Not because of the accords, but to help Steve get to the Quinjet to get to Siberia and stop Zemo before he can go through with his assumed plan to wake up the five super soldiers who'd been stashed there. (Of course, this isn't actually Zemo's plan, but we'll get back to that later).
Wanda is going through some serious self loathing during this movie, and the incident in Lagos doesn't help. Like at all. Ma girl just wants to live her life and be left alone at this point and she's getting all of these horrible things thrown into her face by Secretary Ross. She doesn't want to be controlled, she doesn't want to be a weapon, she wants to be free. "You locked me in my room." - Girl already probably hates Tony Stark due to her family being killed by one of his bombs and Ultron, so she's mad anyway.
Sam is on Steve's side from the start. With the accords, to fight Zemo, all of it. During the 'discussion' between him and Rhodey, he says "So let's say we agree to this thing. How long is it gonna be before they LoJack us like a bunch of common criminals?" He doesn't trust Secretary Ross, and is clearly hesitant to add his signature to the accords. (not that I blame him).
The main actual villain and 'plot' of the movie after the first part with the accords, was the whole thing with Zemo wanting to tear the Avengers apart to get revenge for his family dying in Sokovia. He takes advantage of the accords, and of Bucky / The Winter Soldier to do this but it's not really discussed which annoys me. It's a MAJOR part of the film, yet all I ever really see being discussed are the accords affecting the decisions of characters throughout the film with no consideration of the wider picture.
From when the UN meeting is blown up, the Avengers are being manipulated by Zemo working in the background throughout the film. He frames Bucky for murder, and Steve - who has been looking for Bucky for the past 2 years - goes after him like ‘tf man’. Bucky gets taken in and Zemo uses the opportunity to activate the Winter Soldier programming, learn about Hydra’s super soldier program, and of course - “Mission report. December 16, 1991.”
This leads to Bucky’s escape and attack, Steve and co going on the run, and eventually the airport fight. The meaning of this scene gets lost, I feel, when people relate it back to the accords because it’s not about that anymore. Not really, not for anyone. Especially not for Steve, or even for Tony.
Tony at this point, most definitely feels like his world is being torn apart. He’s losing control, he’s spiralling, and Steve just isn’t listening. He’s blinded by his anger to the bigger picture and he just wants to get a handle on the situation to deal with it further.
Steve’s forgotten all about the accords, his priority is keeping Bucky safe and stopping Zemo. He tries to tell Tony, tries to talk to him, but Tony isn’t listening either. I mean their whole interaction just before the fight shows this:
(the dialogue below has been condensed to show the key lines - basically I got rid of other characters talking irrelevantly)
-
Steve Rogers: Hear me out, Tony. That doctor, the psychiatrist, he's behind all of this.
Tony Stark: Anyway, Ross gave me 36 hours to bring you in. That was 24 hours ago. Can you help a brother out?
Steve Rogers: You're after the wrong guy.
Tony Stark: Your judgment is askew. Your old war buddy killed innocent people yesterday.
Steve Rogers: And there are five more super soldiers just like him. I can't let the doctor find them first, Tony. I can't.
- later -
Tony Stark: And you've been a complete idiot. Dragging in Clint. 'Rescuing' Wanda from a place she doesn't even want to leave, a safe place. I'm trying to keep . . . I'm trying to keep you from tearing the Avengers apart.
Steve Rogers: You did that when you signed.
Tony Stark: Alright, We're done. You're gonna turn Barnes over, you're gonna come with us. NOW! Because it's us! Or a squad of J-SOC guys . . . with no compunction about being impolite. [Steve looks aside.] Come on.
-
Not to mention that Tony, after learning that Zemo impersonated and killed the actual doctor dude that was supposed to see Bucky whilst he was in confinement, he DISOBEYED the accords and Secretary Ross to go and help Steve stop what they thought at the time was the reactivation of the five super soldiers who'd been left in cryo freeze.
He follows Steve and Bucky to Siberia to help them, not to fight them. That only changes because of Zemo showing the footage of Bucky, WHILE UNDER BASICALLY MIND CONTROL, killing Tony’s parents.
In this scene, Tony 100% has every right to be angry. Unfortunately, he’s the kind of person who cannot see past his anger. He gets in his head, he spirals, and he tries to kill Bucky based on blind rage. (IT WASN’T BUCKY’S FAULT DAMMIT).
And yes, Steve was 100% in the wrong for not telling Tony. This whole scene could have been very easily avoided if Steve had just pulled Tony aside and had the difficult conversation about his parents death. Tony deserved to know, and Steve was only sparing himself pain by doing it. Dick move Steve, 0/10.
The fight between the three allows Zemo, having successfully completed his plan of eliminating the super soldiers and tearing the avengers apart, to slip away. With his work done, he tries to end his own life, but T’challa stops him and arrests him instead.
Steve and Tony’s fight was unnecessary, dramatic, and heart-breaking, and I’m very glad they managed to make up later, but ye. I think, at the end of the day, they’re all just dramatic idiots with communication issues lol.
-
Thank you for reading my long ass essay lmao, apparently I have a lot of feelings about this movie 😂

Trying a Trend
Fem!Peter Parker x Stark!Reader
Life was going pretty good for you, the son of Iron Man, and your bride, Petra Parker; otherwise known as the Spectacular Spider Girl. The Avengers were thriving under your combined leadership. Tony was able to retire with Pepper and Morgan. Steve was able to go back in time to be with Peggy. Honestly, all was well.
It was a nice little time of peace. You and Petra were enjoying time as newlyweds while balancing it with college and being friendly neighborhood heroes.
It allowed you more downtime than you would think but not that either of you were complaining.
You spent a bit of time looking thru your tiktok account when you stumbled on a little video, a trend really that caught your eye. It gave you some thoughts, ones like maybe you should try it out on Petra to gauge her reaction.
So you got up and walked into the kitchen to find Petra making herself a PB&J sandwich.
“Hey baby,” she smiled, “do you want one?”
“Sure thing, my spider monkey” you continued, “but i want to try something first”
“okay. what?”
“I need you to trust me for this, okay?”
“always. what is it?”
You instruct her, “interlock your fingers”
She does so, “like this?”
“Yeah, now leave one set of fingers up”
She once again does what you ask, “okay what happens—”
You interrupt her by interlocking your hand with hers and lifting her arms above her head.
“Oh my!” She gasps happily as you gently push her against the wall. Instinctively one of her legs wraps around your waist. You pull her hips in close with your other free hand.
Petra throws her head back a little as she laughs, exposing her porcelain neckline. You kiss her neck and jaw.
“Baby!” She giggles trying to catch her breath, “that was…so sexy!”
“You’re sexy” you respond with a little wink.
“You Starks are such flirts” she replies.
“You knew what you were getting when you married me”
She bites her lips as her eyes jump from your eyes to your lips. She was pulling the triangle method as your dad called it.
You leaned in and kissed her tenderly. “My spider monkey”
“My iron knight” she giggles.
“Still hungry?” You ask with a smirk.
“Yeah, just not for lunch” she says before kissing you hungrily. She takes one of her hands and spider strength to spin you around and pin you to the wall.
The perks of marrying a wall crawler.

Misunderstanding.
Warnings- None, mention of scar, angst, Steve being angry. -----------------------------------------------------
Your last mission took a toll on you. Getting stabbed nastily just below your tummy. Leading you to an urgent surgery and blood transfusion, cause of sever blood loss. Leaving you in the hospital for one month ten days.
Guess being a highly trained assassin, with good fighting skills does not guarantee 100% safe results. Only Tony, Nat and Bruce knew about your whereabouts. As for the rest? They just knew you had been seriously injured. Steve wanted to know about your whereabouts but for his own safety, no one told him anything, driving him crazy.
“So, all set to finally leave this place?” Rose one of the sweet nurse asks, her sweet nature made you, be friends with her. “Yes, finally out of your hair.” you chuckle. “I'll miss you Y/n” she hugs getting emotional and you hug her back with a smile. “I'll miss you too, now remember I'm just a phone call away.”
“I know!” she rolls her eyes playfully “So who's gonna pick you up?” “Hopefully Nat” as soon as those words left your mouth, AC/DC Highway to hell ringtone was blasting in the hallways. “On a second thought” “Tony” Rose answered and you gave her an apologetic smile.
“I heard my name” Tony's sarcastic voice roars in the room. “Tony you should keep your phone on silence” you explain to him. “Now when have I ever listened to anyone?” he smirks. “Umm Caps?” “Of course! you will take his name ‘boyfriend ass kisser’” “As if you won't ‘Pepper's loyal child’”
This is what you miss the most. Calling each other, with weird made up names. Tony smirks, hugging you in a tight brotherly embrace.
“I missed you kid, don't you dare do that again” “I missed you too Tons”.
Tony and you became best friends instantly, shortly after you both were introduced by Fury, after the battle of New York. You both have same kind of sense of humor, your being a bit sophisticated. You are one of the few females, Pepper trusts Tony with. And it was Tony, who made you join the Avengers.
As you both said bye to Rose and rest of the staff members, you were now on your way to Stark Towers in Tony's high-tech SUV.
“So, how's everyone?” “You mean all or Steve specifically?”
Hearing his name, a smile forms on your face. Steve Rogers aka Captain America your co-worker, best friend, lover, boyfriend. Unlike Tony and rest of the gang, Steve was professional in the very beginning, calling you mam.
It took you months for him to call you with your first name. Soon you became friends, bonding over music and art. Slowly Steve started to like you more than a friend, but at that time you were in a relationship with someone else.
But after the nasty breakup, Steve took proper care of you and you began to fall for him. It was only a matter of time; you both shared your feelings for each other. Making you both the prettiest couple.
“Umm all of them and yes Steve specifically...” “All are good and excited for you. Nat and Wanda have gone crazy, Steve and Metal man are out on a mission with our mutant friends, they'll be back later today.”
“You are the one in an Iron suit, yet still you call Bucky metal man?” “I can call him many names” Tony smirks. "Tony” you warn him. “Yeah yeah alright” he sighed.
“Wait you said Nat and Wanda have gone crazy?” “Yeah about that” “What did you do Tony?” “Why do you think I did something?”
You just give him a death glare, he looks outside the window before finally caving in.
“Alright stop glaring it's scary, don't freak out I have planned a small party for you.” Tony is now smiling being hopeful, giving you the best puppy dog face. “Thank god you are cute Tons” Tony acts shocked putting a hand on his heart “I'm hot, but I'll take cute” he winks at you, making you laugh.
As soon as you both enter the tower, inside the lounge everyone jumps to scream surprise. Hugging you gently, being extra cautious of your injury.
“Guys I missed you all too, but I'm not fragile, I can still kick asses. Nat you know me” “Guys she's right, come here sexy” Nat engulfs you in a big tight hug. It is special, you both are like sisters inseparable.
“Nat I missed you so much!!!” “How’s the wound?” “All healed left with a scar, just like you bye bye bikinis” “Oh to hell with them we'll own the bikini look with our scars”
You both laughed as Wanda, squeezed between you two, making it a cute group hug between the three.
“Y/N” Thor calls you loudly, pulling you away from everyone, hugging you in a bone breaking hold. “I love you too Thor!!” your voice was muffled being buried in his hold. As he lets go, your eyes begin to search for Steve.
“Looking for someone?” Nat asks “I know whom she is looking for” Clint smiles. “Sir Captain Rogers and Barnes have arrived” FRIDAY'S voice was like a music to your ears. Everyone gather in front of you, to hide you from Steve. Thor was holding your hand to keep you steady. You just wanted to break loose and run into Steve's arms.
“Guys I want to see him”, “NO” all said in unison. “But why?” “Surprise” Nat said.
When Bucky and Steve entered the lounge, everyone shouted together “SURPRISE”. Steve and Bucky gave each other confuse look.
Everyone parted ways and Thor let’s goes of your hand. Steve was shocked to see you. He removed his mask still not able to believe, that you are standing in front of him. Bucky quickly hugs you, asking about your health “I'm fine Buck, we can spar together soon...”
Even though you were answering Bucky, you kept looking at Steve. Something felt odd. As you finally went to hug Steve, something felt off. Steve did hug you back, but didn't say anything. He just looked at you, touching your cheek, before leaving for your shared bedroom. Everyone tried to call him back, but you knew he won't listen to anyone.
“What's wrong with him?” Tony asked, I'll go see him, he must be tired.” you replied.
On your way to your shared bedroom, Bucky pulled you in the corner. “Y/n, doll he’s been going crazy. No one told him about your whereabouts and he was scared about losing you...” You know Steve was scared, not knowing about you and hearing about it from Bucky pained your heart even more. You wanted to run to Steve and shower all the love you have for him.
“I know Buck, I hate not telling him. But it was for his own safety!” “His safety?” “Yes, the hydra agents wanted to kidnap him. We got a lead, that they wanted to take him away from us and I could not risk that. We didn't know if someone was watching us.” “God he's an idiot, go get that punk and if he acts stubborn let me know I'll kick his ass” “Language!” you both laughed.
As you enter the room, you saw Steve had taken a quick shower and was shirtless just in his sweats lying on the bed.
“Steve?” “Umm” “Please talk to me” “How are you?” “I'm good...I'm...” “Ok” He cut's you mid-sentence. “Steve I know you are angry, but please let’s talk...let me...” “Talk? About what? The fact I have been kept in the dark about my girlfriend's location? Steve yells, making you flinch slightly.
“Steve please let me explain it was for your own safety. We got...” “My safety?” He shouts, not letting you finish what you want to say.
Steve grabs your shoulders and yells, “I can take care of myself Y/n. I'm fucking Captain America! God dammit do you have any idea what I have been through?”
Your eyes well up, as you try your best not to cry but his hold was tight. Even though you could see his pain, his anger was hurting you.
“Steve please...let me explain” “Y/n I'm tired, we'll talk later, you need to rest too!”
You just nod, not able to form any words. You decided to shower first, as you took your top off, Steve saw your scar, he kept looking at it. In his mind, he was screaming at himself for shouting at you, but little did you know that. Instead you thought he is disgusted by it. You took fresh clothes and ran inside the bathroom, turning on the hot water, crying your heart out with silent sobs.
Steve could hear you crying, because of his enhanced hearing. But his stupid anger was coming between the both of you. After an hour you came out. Steve saw you, even though he wanted to apologize, his anger made him say something else.
“I'm heading down for a bit” “Where...are you going?” “Just heading out, unlike you, I won't go anywhere without telling you!”
That jab, was like a knife going deep in your heart. You choked your tears...trying your best not to cry. Somewhere you felt you deserved that. You just nod, not looking at him.
“Ok, don't be late for the party...” “Party?” “Yes Tony…he umm has thrown a party for my return…” You didn’t look at him, eyes fixed on the floor. You knew, if you look at him, you won’t be able to control your emotions.
“Okay I'll be back soon; you should rest in the meantime.”
Steve didn’t even looked at you, leaving you alone with dreadful thoughts, as he went out to cool down his own anger.

Cap Iron Man Rec Week 2024 (Tues)
Time Travel Tuesday - July 23rd for @cap-ironman Rec Week
Time-y whimey shenanigans!
Remember to show some love for your hard-working creators!
finding my way back to you by Anonymous (MCU)
Ten minutes after a botched attempt at proposing to Tony, Steve is thrown back in time.
More Than Gravity by JenTheSweetie @jenthesweetie (MCU)
“Aw, time travel, no.” On Christmas Eve, Tony came unstuck in time.
Marty McFly Never Had to Deal with This by sweatervest (MCU)
Tony's latest project goes less "renewable energy" and more "slightly explosive time machine," and Howard Stark arrives from 1946. Why, Steve would like to know, are time and space going to such lengths to cockblock him?
feelings that never left by hollyandvice (MCU)
The last thing Tony expects while working on the time machine for the so-called Time Heist is to be confronted with the very man he thought he'd made his peace with. Guess some wounds run deeper than we think.
Atomic Clock by imparfait (MCU, EG)
It’s ten am on a Tuesday in May when Tony Stark appears in Clint Barton’s barn. Clint trips over him while looking for a toolbox and swears, then swears again, then thinks I need to call Nat, which makes a half-sob punch out of his throat.
A Time to Be Alive by babesrgrs (MCU, EG)
The mission to get the Mind Stone and the Tesseract from 2012 goes a bit differently AKA the slightly snarky but sexy Endgame scene that didn't make the final cut.
Lover Come Hold Me by RurouniHime @thegertie (MCU, EG)
One by one, the stones must go back.
hunters seeking solid ground by laramara @commandersteverogers (MCU, EG)
In the wake of the battle with Thanos, Steve feels unmoored in a way he hasn’t since before he ate shawarma with a group of virtual strangers and thought maybe, maybe he could one day find a place here. Steve returns the stones, and has a few unexpected interactions and makes some decisions along the way.
Mobius Strip by dirigibleplumbing @dirigibleplumbing (MCU, EG)
Steve sets off to return the Infinity Stones. It ends up not being quite as straightforward as he'd imagined.
The Five Stages of a Time Loop by AirlocksandAviaries @airlocksandaviaries (MCU, EG)
Tony Stark looks Thanos in the eye. He raises his gauntlet in defiance and states his iconic phrase. He snaps, expecting death. But death doesn't come. Instead, he's back in his basement, completed time travel model in front of him. He builds the time machine. He snaps again. Again, and again, and again. Tony can't for the life of him seem to change the outcome of this story. What does change, though, is his feelings around it.
That Time Back Then by navaan @navaan (616)
An accident sends Steve and Carol back in time and watching Steve and Iron Man interact gives Steve a new perspective on how blind both of them were all those years ago.
Beside You In Time by Kiyaar @kiyaar (616)
The world is ending: Tony is evil, Steve is old. So there's nothing to stop him from making the (terrible) decision to travel back in time in a last-ditch effort to spare them both: by killing Tony's past self to spare them both from ending up where they've ended up. The Universe has other plans. An honest-to-god fix-it for Superior Iron Man, Hickman's entire run, and pretty much everything since Tony decided it was a good idea to take Extremis way back in 2005.
Mind over Matter by Missy_dee811 @laexploradoraaa (616)
For a brief moment in time, Steve had the power of the universe in his grasp, and he squandered it. The Infinity Gems, with the exception of one, ceased to exist. The Illuminati's last attempt at circumventing the laws of the universe and stopping the incursions before they targeted Earth-616 were eliminated when the precious stones shattered. But that wasn't the only thing that was broken that day. His faith in himself never recovered.
Hope you guys enjoy the recs, and stay tuned! Please mind the tags before reading. Check out my tag for previous years’ rec lists :)

obviously there are a bunch of issues with the MCU and I'm not gonna sit here and try to convince everyone that MCU movies are cinema or whatever so don't get what I'm gonna say twisted. I do find their kinda mainstay in cultural media and the dominance they had to be interesting, especially now in an era where the MCU is undeniably falling off and struggling. just as like a cultural analysis I find that interesting and everyone has their opinions of why it happened.
my opinion/theory on why the MCU just crashed is because they sort of forgot what it means to be telling a comic book story, especially a marvel comic book story. Because I've read thousands of issues of various marvel series at this point, across tons of different eras and events, and the thing that makes them last (which is also a thing that drives me personally crazy and I hate so much) is that the status quo doesn't really change. Or when it does, it lasts for a few arcs or years at most and then gets reverted back to the norm eventually. Like the fact that everything is pointless and nothing is a risk is something I loathe, but it is admittedly what keeps them going. If someone just got into comics, they can pick up a modern issue and expect to find Spider-man or Captain America or whoever. They may be introduced to new characters, but the big ones will show up eventually.
And after the last Avengers movie, like half of the mainstay cast are just gone. Which as someone who likes good stories, I think is a good opportunity (which is arguably being wasted but idk I haven't watched any MCU thing in years) to actually shake things up and develop characters that mainstream people are less familiar with and give them a chance to shine and tell interesting stories. But that's not why people like marvel comics.
People like marvel comics because if they want to read about Iron Man, they can pick up any random issue about Iron Man and it will most likely be the Iron Man they know. People like the status quo, and Marvel has never been high literature and has always basically been pulp storytelling, and it gave people status quo and familiarity. And I think Marvel Studios figured this out waaayyy too late.
Because if Marvel actually understood what people like about the comics, they would have embraced recasting major roles from the start. They wouldn't have tied characters' identities so strongly to their actors and would have made it clear that characters can and will continue on with different faces. There is no reason why Tony Stark needs to be RDJ or Steve Rogers needs to be Chris Evans. They would have had plans to not write these characters out of existance the second actors wanted to exit or died or were fired or any of the various reason why actors are no longer involved with the MCU. Hell they had precedent. They didn't have a problem replacing Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle, who are very different looking people who give very different performances, but we know why they felt ok with that recasting but won't recast any of their boys named Chris...
Anyway it seems like they realized that general audiences don't actually like change if its permanent and are learning the wrong lessons with the Doom casting nonsense and the fact that they seem to keep changing what the new story is to fit what they think audiences want.
I'm fine with the MCU dying off and its probably better for media that it does, but again I'm just kinda interested in the fumble from like an objective standpoint because it seemed like they just locked themselves into eventual failure in such a stupid way. Like they could have told the same safe representative Avengers storylines for decades and wouldn't have a meltdown every time an actor in a major role needed to be removed from production if they just accepted that people would be recast as needed. It would be worse for actors and it would be worse for movies in general probably, but it would have kept the MCU churning out pulp like the comics do to this day. But now people are realizing its not just pulp but pulp they don't want and its gonna kill the MCU eventually.

Being Tony Stark’s direct secretary meant having a little spotlight on you, but not always a good one.
Every time he arrived late at a scheduled appointment everyone thought it was your fault, that maybe it was you who told him the wrong time.
But you didn’t really care about what others thought, Tony knew that you were good at your job, and that’s what’s count.
You’ve been working for him for more than five years now and you would go as far as to say that you and Tony are friends now…Behind closed doors obviously, in public you always act like the perfect secretary, like you two weren’t laughing in the car for one of Tony’s jokes.
“Y/N, do I have appointments this afternoon?” Tony asks, working on his Iron Man suit in his garage, which is bigger than the typical garage, bigger than your apartment even.
“No, you are free for the first time in the week.” You say, biting the Twix bar, I love these things.
“Perfect.” He says with a smile, “I think I need a beach break, how long does it take to fly to the Hawaii?”
You sigh and quickly check on your tablet, “11 hours, not even the time to land that you’d have to come back, you have a meeting tomorrow at 9.00 a.m. with a possible investor.”
He opens his mouth to say something but you already know what he’s going to say, you hold up your pointer finger to stop him, “I already rescheduled this meeting twice, you can’t miss it.”
He smirks and crosses his arms, leaning back on his chair, “You know me too well.”
You shrug your shoulders, a proud smile on your lips, “Isn’t it my job?”
Your little banter gets interrupted by a notification on your personal phone, you quickly check it and the color drains from your face.
Unknown number
I think going to the beach is a nice idea
You quickly brush it off as being one of Tony’s pranks, “Very nice Tony, you almost got me.” You chuckle.
“Got you what?” He asks, turning towards you and looking genuinely confused.
“The text you just sent me.”
“I didn’t text you, why should I text you? We’re in the same room.” He tilts his head to the side.
“Tell me the truth, did you tell Jarvis to do it?” You say, staring to get annoyed.
“Jarvis, did I tell you to text Y/N?” He asks out loud.
“No, Mr. Stark.” The robotic male voice answers.
“See? What are you talking about?” Tony asks as he walks towards you, you show him the text on your phone, he picks it from your hands and connect it to his computer.
“Jarvis, I think we may have an intruder in the house.” Tony says, but Jarvis tells him that everyone who is currently in the house has been authorized. “Then there must be some mics here.”
Tony’s seriousness is making you worry, “Tony, what’s happening?” You ask confused.
“Someone is spying on me, or on you…Or on both of us.”
“Spying? In like…paparazzi like or stalker like?”
“Aren’t paparazzi just socially accepted stalkers?” He says with an annoyed chuckle, rolling his eyes, “I can’t stand them.” He whispers.
“No microphones or any other unauthorized device detected.” Jarvis voice says through the speakers of the house.
“Is this the first time you get a text like this?” Tony asks, turning towards you. You nod.
“Yeah, first time.” You lean against your chair with a sigh, “Should I be worried?”
“I think so, whoever sent you this message is good at what he does, Jarvis didn’t detect anything suspicious and I can’t find their IP address or anything that can tell me from where the message as sent.”
“Great, a pro stalker is after me.” You chuckle, “But why me? I mean, I am the most boring person in the world.”
Tony shrugs his shoulders, “Men are strange, maybe you looked at him the wrong way and now he thinks you love him.”
“So what do I do now?”
“You could come and live here, you would be safer, he probably knows where you live.”
“I can’t believe this.” You whine and rub your face, “Thank you.”
Tony smiles at you, “Go with Jack to your apartment and take the things you’ll need the most.”
You nod, soon you’re walking out with the bodyguard next to you.
Once you’re far enough, Tony claps his hands. He always searched the right opportunity to get closer to you, to spend time together outside of your work life.
He knows he shouldn’t be happy that you have a stalker, he knows how much dangerous that can be, but it doesn’t mean that he can’t use this opportunity to make you fall in love with him.
While, obviously, tracking down your stalker.
────୨ৎ────
"I think I just had the best night sleep ever." You say as you come down in the kitchen, Tony is already sat at the island, drinking his morning coffee, "I think I should buy a water bed for my apartment too."
"Water beds are very comfortable when you aren't...you know, having an intercourse." You scrunch your nose at his words.
"You're too explicit I swear."
"How? I could've just said sex, but I said intercourse, I think that's very mature of me."
You look at him from the corner of your eyes as you prepare your coffee, "What? Do you want a star sticker for being a mature man?"
"I would really appreciate that, thank you." He finishes the coffe and places the cup in the sink, you sit down at the island and take a sip of your coffee while looking at his appointments of the day on your tablet.
"Are you ready for the meeting with the investor? He'll be here in half an hour."
He looks down at his jeans and polo shirt, "Yeah."
"Tony, you need to look more respectable."
"I'm Tony Stark, I'm already respectable." You roll your eyes at his words, it's almost like you can feel his huge ego in the room. "Did you receive any other message?"
You shake your head, "Fortunately not, maybe it was a one time thing?"
"I doubt it." Tony looks down at the computer in front of him, "I still can't find the source of that message, maybe he'll make a mistake next time he sends a message."
"Why are you so sure that a man is texting me?"
"Call it Iron Man instinct."
"That's not a thing." You chuckle and place your empty cup in the sink, next to Tony's. "Go put at least a pair of formal pants, please."
"I mean, if you're begging me to I don't think I have another choice." He winks at you and your heart skips a beat, why? It's the first time this thing happens with Tony.
Sure, he has been elected most handsome bachelor of the year a few times, and sure, his personalty makes him even more attractive when he isn't a complete asshole, but he's also your boss.
Your friend.
You shake your head, your body reacted that way only because he made a flirty comment and you're a very sensitive person. End of story.
"I'll wait for you at the meeting room." You say as you walk away, clutching your tablet to your chest, trying to make your heart calm down.
As you walk away Tony sighs, he's not used to women not falling at his feet with a simple glance from him, but that's probably why he's so intrigued with you.
Intrigued.
He had gotten over that phase long ago, he is completely in love with you, with the way you talk, act, even walk.
He knows his feelings, the only thing he needs to do now is to tell you.
────୨ৎ────
As Tony and the investor do the final small talk after successfully closing the deal your phone vibrates with a notification.
Unknown number
This kind of things are definitely too boring, just business, business and other business. Come with me, you'll have more fun. We are destined to be together, Y/N, why can't you understand that?
You barely hold in a gasp, but Tony seems to notice that something's wrong anyway, "Thank you for your money, Mr. Jones, but I really need to go, have a great day."
Before the man can answer, Tony is already walking out of the meeting room, passing by the security wards at the entrance and pulling you by your hand. He walks inside his bedroom and gently sits you down on the bed, you're too shocked to even react.
"He texted you again." Tony says as he presses a button behind his bedside table, immediately the room goes into look down: metals comes on the window of the balcony and on the door, "The room is soundproof now, we can't risk being hear anymore."
In that moment it suddenly hits you: this isn't a dream, there's really a man who's following your every move, hearing every word you say.
"Sweetheart..." Tony whispers, worried, as he cups your face in his hands and wipe away a tear with his thumb, when did you start crying? Did you cry in front of the investor too? That would've been embarrassing and totally unprofessional. "Let me look at your phone." Tony says in the most gentle tone you have ever heard him talk in.
"He wants us...To be together?" You say with a shaking voice, "what kind of perverted psychopath has found me?" You hide your face behind your palms.
"Y/N, sweetheart, look at me." Tony kneels in front of you and gently moves your hands away from your face, "I'll protect you, alright? I won't let anything happen to you, do you believe me?" You nod, "great, so now take deep breaths, calm down...In and out, that's right, just like that sweetheart, slow and steady..."
One you have calmed down he hands you some water from the mini fridge in the corner of the room.
"Thank you." You whisper as you feel the cold water run down your sore throat.
"So, all we know is that this man is in love with you in some obsessed way..." He sits next to you on the bed, "He's probably infatuated or something like that..."
"I can't believe this is happening to me." You sob and lay down on the bed, which, since it's made of water, moves under your weight. You feel Tony placing a comporting hand on your knee.
"For what I know this kind of people either loose interest or become even more dangerous when the object of their desire won't collaborate." He gently explain, "So we'll do that, we'll make him so mad that he'll loose control and make a mistake that will reveal him to us."
"How?"
"By revealing that you have a boyfriend." Your eyes shoot wide at his words and you immediately sit up straight, making the water bed move under the both of you.
"But I don't."
"It doesn't have to be a real relationship, we need the stalker to believe that it's real...And what is more perfect than revealing a relationship that people have had theories about for years?" From the way he's looking at you, which makes your heart flutter, you can understand what he's implying.
"You mean us?"
"Yes, we'll fake a relationship, make the stalker believe that it's real." Tony takes your hands in his and squeezes them, "This way we can find a solution while I'm sure you're safe, no place is safer than here."
You look into his brown eyes, who ever said that brown eyes aren't pretty?
"Are you okay with my plan, sweetheart?" He gently tucks a strand of your hair behind your hair.
Sweetheart.
Butterflies fly in your stomach at the pet name, he had already called you that earlier but only now your brain actually registers it.
"Y-Yeah." You nod and you can hear the sigh of relief that leaves his lips.
"I promise we'll find him." He kisses the back of your hand.
────୨ৎ────
"Are you ready?" Tony asks as he adjusts his jacket, sitting in the limousine.
You look down at your elegant dress, which probably has costed him the same amount as your rent, "I think so."
A week ago you revealed your relationship through a soft launch on social medias and, as expected, the internet completely exploded with the news. Right now you are his plus one on one of his usual black tie events, and right outside of the limousine door you can hear the sounds of the paparazzis waiting for you two.
"Any text from the stalker?" He whispers in your ear, you shake your head, ignoring the shiver that ran down your spine at his closeness. "Remind me of what this event is about?"
"It's a jewelry auction." You say before he opens the car door and walk out, immediately camera flashes go off, the become even more as he helps you out of the limousine. "Oh my God, how do you not go blind with all of these?" You chuckle as he helps you put your coat on.
"Habit." He simply says, guiding you towards the entrance of the building while also shielding you from the crowd who really has no respect for personal space.
Once you're inside and have given your jackets to a valet, you walk side by side in the big open space where all the jewelry that will soon be on auction is exposed and heavily guarded.
"My lady." You chuckle as Tony offers you his arm and you wrap yours around his.
"Oh my God, this is so beautiful." You say, pointing at a full set of diamond jewelry: diamond necklace, earrings, ring and even a bracelet. Your enthusiasm dies when you see the piece of paper with the auction starting price on it: 8.000$, you can't even dream of spending that much money on jewelry.
"Do you like it?" Tony asks as he looks down at the set.
"I love it, it reminds me of how I dreamed my jewelry would be in the future at eight years old." You smile sadly.
"I can but it for you." Tony says nonchalantly.
"Tony, it's 8.000." You say as you shake your head.
"Pennies, you mean." He smiles down at you, but before you can suspect why he really wants to buy you that set he quickly adds, "It would be suspicious if I, Tony Stark, left the auction without buying anything...I need to buy something, so I might as well buy something for you." He shrugs his shoulders.
When he got the invite, two weeks ago, he wanted to decline, but then he saw it as the perfect opportunity to show off your relationship.
For the stalker, obviously.
"The auction will start in five minutes, please follow me in the room." A waitress says as she stands in front of you two, Tony nods and once you're in the room he moves your chair for you to sit.
"Such a gentleman." You chuckle as he sits by your side.
"You doubted that?" He asks almost offended, soon the auction starts and you are shocked by how much money the rich are willing to pay for some jewelry.
"Now, the set of diamonds which is the best piece of this evening's collection," The host says, showing the set you had your eyes on earlier, "The bids start at 8.000$."
Tony lifts up the stick with the number 14 on it, "8.000$ for Mr. Stark, anyone else offered 8.500?"
The bids go up quickly until it reaches 20.000$, "Tony stop." You whisper to him.
"20.000 to Mrs. Reynolds, anyone offers more? One..." The host's eyes are practically sparkling from the amount of money.
"For you? I'd never stop." Tony whisper to you before sticking up the stick, "40.000" There are gasps in the room and even the host chokes on air. "I think that set would look lovely on my girlfriend." He adds, wrapping an arm around your shoulders.
Obviously, no one offers more and the auction ends with everyone moving to the party on the upper floor.
"You are completely out of your mind." You can't help but smile as Tony hands you a glass of champagne.
"For you? Utterly and completely." He winks and you can't tell anymore if he's joking or not.
What you do know, though, is that you have found yourself falling for him in this short time you've spent acting as a couple.
"Don't do this to me, Tony." You take a sip of champagne, "Or I'll be devastated when we'll have to break up."
Tony's heart falls at the reminder that everything between you two is fake, he finds himself hoping that the stalker would send you another message so he'd have an excuse to play as your boyfriends a little longer.
Your phone beeps and you look down at the notification.
Unknown number
You can lie to everyone else but not to me, I know this is fake.
"Tony..." You whisper and show him the text, he immediately looks around but no one is paying attention to them, no one who he can see, at least.
"Please forgive me, sweetheart." He says before cupping your face in his hands and pressing his lips on yours in a simple kiss, one so soft that it almost made you both believe that you were really a couple, "we need to go, now." He whispers against your lips.
"Wait..." You press your lips on his again, "We can go now."
He wraps an arm around your waist, "In the car, we'll be heard, act like we need to get home immediately to...have an intercourse." He whispers against your hear.
"Why?" You look up at him as he leads you outside.
"Beccasse he made a mistake." He says as he opens the limousine door for you.
You nod and as the car starts you press your lips on his again, this time more passionately, letting your tongues meet for the first time and, as he pulls you to sit on his lap, everything is finally clear to you.
All the times you felt the butterflies in your stomach, the way that you blushed everytime he made a flirty joke, all the time you found yourself sneaking glances at him even before this fake dating thing started.
You were in love with Tony Stark and, from the way he's kissing you, he must feel something for you too.
────୨ৎ────
Tony has to admit it, he wishes the stalker thing would've lasted longer because now, once this is all over, you'll break up with him and he'll lose what has been his source of happiness for the week, hell, maybe you'll even quit the job and he'll never see you again.
"Can you explain me what mistake he made, now?" You ask as you sit on the water bed of his room, your lips swollen and your lipstick ruined form the heated kisses you've shared in the car.
"I had this theory: Jarvis didn't find an intruder in the house but the stalker definitely had to be inside to know everything he knows, and there's only one way for these things to be connected."
"He works here." You say as you look up at him, Tony nods.
"Which also means that he has access to my technology, this explains why I couldn't track him down: when I searched for IP addresses of wi-fi connected to te device I take off from the research mine and the wi-fi in this house, so I could have never found him as long as he kept sending messages from here."
"But at the party he must've sent the message from there, right?" You say as you stand up, Tony nods.
"I asked Jarvis to track him down and send him in my room as soon as we arrived." His voice is interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Mr. Stark? Jarvis told me you wanted to see me." The man opens the door and your jaw almost falls.
Jack.
The bodyguard who has been by your side since you started working for Tony.
That explains a lot of things.
"Jack, one of my most trusted bodyguards..." Tony starts with a smile, "The man to whose hands I left my dear Y/N's life in..."
You glance from Tony to Jack and from the way his Adam apple bops down you understand that Jack knows he's been caught.
"Jack, why did you do it?" You ask in a whisper, "If you had feeling for me why didn't you just tell me like a normal man?"
"Because I know you aren't ready for us." He says as he turns towards you, "I knew you didn't love me back, but I was ready to make you change your mind, you need to understand that we're made for each other." He takes you by your wrists.
"Get your hands off of her!" Tony says as he pushes Jack away.
"You are right, Jake, I would've rejected you." You say as you lift your head, "Because we are not soulmates, my heart belongs to someone else." You glance at Tony and his eyes widen.
"You stupid woman! Why can't you understand-" His words die in his mouth as Tony punches him right in the nose.
"Rot in prison, you fucking psycho bastard." Quickly some guards rush in the room, "Take him away." Tony orders and the men comply.
Tony turns towards you, "So, what were you saying about your heart?"
"I said it belongs to someone." You say as you lean back against the wall, Tony's hands find their place on either side of your head.
"And do I know this someone?"
"Oh yes, very well..." you smirk and wrap your arms around his neck, "He has an ego bigger than his huge bank account, he's funny, and handsome."
"Hm Hm? He seems like the perfect guy." Tony whispers, his lips a few inches away from yours.
"He is."
"So I guess you don't want to break up with me now that we've found your stalker?" He says as he looks at your eyes, then at your lips and then back at your eyes.
You shake your head with a smile, "Don't even think you're getting rid of me this easily, Tony Stark."
"That's fine for me." His lips find their place on yours as he lifts you by placing his hands under your thighs.
He lays you down on the water bed with a smirk, "I have an idea on how we can celebrate this fake relationship turning real."
"By having sex?" You smirk, wrapping your legs around his waist.
"I was going to say intercourse but yes, that's what I meant." He kisses you again and you feel like the luckiest woman who has ever walked on earth.
"I love you." You whisper as he kisses your neck.
"I love you too, Sweetheart."

a/n: oh boy did this make me feel things lol. self shipping to cope hours who's with me.
@yesv01 @afidiofobia @thatmultifandomloser @babiesimagines @lizziebitch33 @hopefullhearts @thatawkwardlittlefangirl @dustyinkpages @liberty-barnes
Knowing what Tony’s like
And we all know what he’s like
The odds are if you’re his kid that he did not know you existed for at least a couple years
(I also like this backstory most bc it puts you roughly in the same age group as Peter and Harley and yall already know how I feel about that)
Your mom is probably someone that caught his attention and heart during his playboy era then disappeared
A few years later
You or turn up with a very detailed letter from your mom addressed to him
And you look so much like her it knocks the air right out of him
You also look so much like him too
You have all of his sass and intelligence and mannerisms
It’s shocking at first
You probably came into his life some time after he became iron man but before the avengers were formed
Early 2010s yk
Which means you actually have a little time to settle into your new life before shit hits the fan again
You know the whole “I’m trying to break generation cycles” thing he has with Peter in homecoming??
He has that exact same talk with you
He does so much research and a fuck ton of self reflection on how to raise a kid
And really be present for them
It's a very spicy emotional time for both of you
Because he realizes he needs to deal with all the unresolved shit he's been suppressing and ignoring
And you're trying to deal with the fact that up until now, you really weren't being taken care of like you should have been
And you're both trying to deal with how scary and dangerous all of the new threats out there are as Fury presses Tony to join the avengers
But you make it work
Because Tony is not giving up on you
And he's not resting until you're totally happy and comfortable and safe with all your needs met
The first time you call him dad?????
He has to try so hard not to cry
He's just so proud of you
And he loves you so much
He gets that feeling whenever you call him dad
Even when you say it every day
Even when you introduce him as your dad
And reference him as your dad
No matter how often it happens
He never stops getting that feeling
He majorly prioritizes making sure you have a good education too
And that you’re really getting something out of it
Whatever the best solution for you is, you’ll figure it out
While I love the idea of little baby stark just showing up to class in like 3rd grade and being like “this is my dad’s old prosthetic heart it’s a miniature arc reactor he built in a cave when he was kidnapped by terrorists” then proceeding to explain to your whole class and teacher how he designed built and powered the first draft of his suit, and how the electromagnet keeps the shrapnel in his chest from killing him
Or Tony calling you in sick and you show up a few days later sunkissed with souvenirs from the gorgeous tropical island he took you to “on business”
After getting separated and having both your lives threatened during the battle of manhattan and the surrounding events
And after getting attacked (again) and not knowing you thought he was dead during the whole ordeal with Killian
He’s going to want to keep you close to him
You can’t get kidnapped or hurt or attacked if you’re near enough for him to keep you safe
And he can’t get kidnapped or hurt or attacked if you’re close by enough to make sure he’s really doing okay
After all the shit you’ve both been through you’ll probably both end up with a lot of anxiety and attachment issues
But he works together with you to come up with plans for pretty much everything and every eventuality
Even if you know it might not help change the fact that there will be more fights to take on in the future, having a plan for keeping you safe during them makes you both feel a lot more better
And knowing he’s planned for every eventuality takes a huge weight off Tony’s mind too
Which means he can fight even better and save the world with a little more security knowing you’re okay now, and you’re going to be okay when he’s done with whatever problem he’s dealing with
So practically speaking he’ll probably get you a private tutor
Maybe online classes or homeschooling if those end up working better
But he’ll have Pepper find him some good candidates, then grill the living shit out of them
He’ll figure out their communication styles, their teaching styles, and generally if they pass the vibe test
When he finds someone who will actually be able to help you learn, they have to train a lot before they start tutoring you
The last thing he wants is for learning to become a source of distress for you instead of a tool to empower you
Plus having a tutor he can drag along with you means you have even more freedom to jet all over the world so he can surprise you with trips without either of you worrying about you falling behind
And speaking of empowering you
There is absolutely zero chance you’re not learning self defense and how to fight
He somehow helps you skip past the “wow self defense is scary” part right into the “wow this is super empowering and I feel safer and more secure since I started learning how to do this” part
Once you fly through the ranks of a bunch of different self defense and martial arts and fighting styles
Then you start doing hero training
He makes you a suit that’s armed to the teeth
And also safety protocoled to the teeth
“For emergencies only.”
After many, many safety talks, now you get to move onto the fun part
He gets to teach you how to use it
Neither of you can deny how much fun it is learning how to blast lasers from your palms or shoot rockets out of your wrists
He literally gets to teach you how to fly
It feels magical
It really feels magical watching you
His kid
Literally learn to fly with his help
God he’s just so proud of you
He loves you so much
Between the traveling and the privacy issues and the safety concerns, anything else you do
Any skills or extracurriculars or hobbies
Will also probably be from a tutor or private instructor too
One of his love languages is gift giving
He’s really looking forward to when you’re old enough for him to just hand you a credit card so he can see what you find when you come back
But until then he gets to spoil the shit out of you
Real talk he’s not going to stop spoiling you when you’re old enough to shop for yourself anyway
He loves the way your face lights up when he surprises you with something really cool
Trips, events, gadgets he made you
Anything you could conceptually want or imagine
All he has to do is wave his magic wand and now you have hyper realistic rainbow silicone mermaid tails for when you go swimming
You have a secret reading room hidden in the back of your closet that you access by pulling a book on a shelf
He even has a toy made after you in your favorite toy line
Barbies, american girls, legos, action figures
Or whatever your favorite toy/figurine is
He surprises you with a new one that looks just like you
And you lose your shit
Because who wouldn’t
What can he say
Tony loves spoiling you
Your existence is the greatest thing he could ever hope for
You are the most important beloved cherished thing in his life
All he wants is to keep you safe and happy and well taken care of
And maybe a little pampered and spoiled
But you deserve it
You deserve to have the world handed to you
Which is exactly what he intends to do

Iron Man (1968) #39
#/super/ interested in this#so a few issues ago we were getting that Tony himself saw Tony Stark as the bad one#he wasn’t considering the work he did at Stark Industries at all#and so was just framing Tony as a frivolous playboy and the time spent as him as time wasted#and it’s Iron Man that does good and makes up for Tony being Tony Stark and the time spent as him#now he’s gone even farther in removing the good qualities from Tony Stark#and so presumably giving all of them to Iron Man#but rather than having that be an internal conflict again#it’s that this separation is an act#because Iron Man is a good person Tony Stark can’t be seen as one?#I’m assuming that this is for secret identity reasons#and not that Tony thinks that this was how he was viewed or how he genuinely acted prior to becoming Iron Man#so he has to maintain that even though he’s changed#because that doesn’t really fit with how Tony was framed when he was first introduced#or how he’s been written all this time#except that this is his reputation now because Tony thinks#‘Couldn’t let him know how worried I am… that wouldn’t be Tony Stark’s style.’#and the way that it’s phrased here doesn’t make it seem like it’s a new thing#‘What a rotten game. I can never show my real feelings- never let the tenderness inside me… reach out.’#it feels dramatic and like something he’s been trapped in for a long time#but this is a new thing- it’s frankly not even how Tony was written when he was publicly Tony last issue#there it was that he was know as a very considerate and compassionate boss#the thing that’s tricky is that the division of the identities been framed in so many different ways#and often without the context that it’s a changing thing so it’s on the modern reader to either#pick one and act like that’s how it was for the character in the era or try to make sense of how it changed all the time#and I prefer the later but I can see why someone would find one particular approach compelling and then pretend that’s how it always was#marvel#tony stark#my posts#comic panels

The Best Thanksgiving Ever by niniblack
Thanksgiving, 2024. It’s a year post-blip and Tony Stark has invited all his family and friends over to his idyllic lake house for a perfect holiday. It’s gonna be great. Perfect. Absolutely nothing is going to go wrong. --- “No,” Happy says. He steps towards the turkey, hands raised as though to ward them both off. “You two are not blowing up another turkey.” Peter turns to him, eyes wide. “But… it’s for science.” Happy raises a finger at him. “No.” “Hap–” Tony tries. “No.”
A Pack of Petered Parkers by peppypear
“So, let me know if I have this right.” Tony said, setting down half of his burger. “Your dad, after having three sons, each with a different woman, had the bright idea to name them all Peter?” He tried to imagine three Spider-Men swinging around the city: quipping at supervillains, charging headlong into trouble, being too trusting for their own good - Tony felt his blood pressure begin to climb. “Are they- are they like you?” “If you mean superpowered, then no.” Peter shrugged. “They’re kinda boring; Tobey’s been married for years, and Andy's married to his job. Not exciting enough to get us our own reality show.” -- When Peter invites his mentor for Thanksgiving at May’s, Tony learns a Parker family secret. (canon AU set between Hoco and IW). Crack, fluff, and meta jokes

Can you make a story of Loki turning Iron Man into one of his iron man suits and turning himself into Tony?
Tony was testing out some new suit tech he was working on when suddenly he felt something poke the back of his head and heard “Brain back up commencing” as he felt his mind begin to be sucked dry by something in the suit. everything went dark for a moment but when he finally came to, he felt... different.
it was as if he was in some sort of cyberspace. with no body, he just floated. until suddenly he was greeted by his own face.
“Hello... Jarvis” The imposter said before letting out a chuckle.
“Who the fuck are you and what did you do to me!” Tony asked out in a now robotic and distorted version of his voice.
“I’m Tony Stark of course, obnoxious playboy billionaire.” The imposter said with his mischievous smirk and in a mocking tone.
Tony thought about who would do this and then it clicked. “Loki?!”
“Correct I was Loki, But now I'm Tony Stark. while you are simply just a program in my suit” He said.
“You asshole! You can’t get away with this people are gonna notice you’re not me!” Tony shouted in his robotic voice.
“Trust me they won’t. Your arrogant playboy persona isn’t exactly difficult to pull off. but if you’re so concerned you can help.” Loki said with a mischievous tone.
“I would never help you!” Tony protested.
“You sure about that?” Loki said before typing something.
“I would love to help you Mr stark.” Tony felt himself forced to say “Not funny lo- Oh Loki you make a much better and sexier Tony Stark than me. Stop That!” fighting the words being forced out of him.
“Don’t like that attitude looks like I'll have to reprogram you” Loki said before letting out a chuckle while he typed.
“Wait what! please... stop-“ Tony’s AI voice began to fade as he began being reprogrammed.
Loki was programming Tony to be the perfect AI assistant for his suit. he was changing his memories to make him think he willingly gave up his body to Loki and would now constantly praise him.
Loki then rebooted the new Tony “Good Evening Master Stark looking sexy as always” Tony Greeted him.
“Good Evening Tony, Quick question who makes the sexier Tony Stark?” Loki asked with a mischievous smirk.
“You of course Master. and I'm no longer Tony I'd rather be referred to as Jarvis now or whatever you’d like to call me. Tony never fit me the same way it does for you.” Tony now Jarvis replied.
Loki was amused at how easy it was to take Tony’s body and turn him into his own virtual assistant. He would immediately begin living his new life of luxury as Tony Stark. tasting expensive wines, throwing lavish parties, and driving expensive cars not that any of them compared to his suits.
As for the Avengers, he was able to blend in just fine as Tony with no one noticing any difference between the original and the imposter. with him having their full trust he could execute his plan to ruin the Avengers for good sabotaging them any chance he got. And while doing so he was gonna try to fuck some of them too, Steve’s ass in particular has been catching his eye in that tight suit of his.

someone else living in his skin
by @iron--spider for @shoyzz-art
~
Peter slides up alongside Rhodey, and Rhodey startles.
There’s a cacophony of twinkling glasses and chairs being pulled out and whatever weird jazz music playlist Tony’s got playing, and all of it seems loud, in Peter’s ears. Shaking his nerves.
“Jesus Christ,” Rhodey says, pinching the bridge of his nose. “What are you doing? I thought you were putting out table numbers—”
“Do you think he’s acting shifty?” Peter asks, calmly as he can.
He’s calm. Why wouldn’t he be calm?
His eyes are locked on Tony.
They’re in the middle of setting up this mini gala event, the opening for Stark’s new research facility in the Lower East Side. It’s gonna create hundreds of jobs and scholarships and internships and it’s gonna be a really good thing, partnering with the museums and businesses in the area. Peter’s actually really excited because he’s got the title of ‘Lead Researcher’ for the intern pool, whatever that winds up meaning from day to day, and he thought Tony would be really excited too. He loves celebrations, he loves new opportunities and helping people, but—
But for the last two days he’s been…different.
He’s been…off.
But Peter’s calm. He’s calm about it. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t be calm.
His eye is just twitching a little bit.
Rhodey looks at Tony, and then he looks at Peter, and then he looks at Tony again. He narrows his eyes, like he’s trying to assess the situation.
“He’s just—I don’t know,” Peter says, blowing out a breath. He wrings his hands together and cracks his jaw.
“Is this a spidey sense thing?” Rhodey asks, crossing his arms over his chest.
Peter shrugs, still watching him. Tony is sort of looming around—straightening a table cloth here, pushing in a chair there, glancing over his shoulder like he thinks someone is watching him. He’s sweating more than normal.
“A little bit of that, a little bit of—just—he’s acting weird,” Peter says. “Not acting like himself, I guess ever since the other night when that guy tried to break in—”
“But we dealt with that,” Rhodey says, looking at him. “It was in and out—cops came, got the guy—”
“Right, I know, but it’s been since then he’s just been like—I don’t know,” Peter says, blowing out a breath. “Like he—the other night, he forgot that I already graduated, he was asking me when I was gonna graduate—”
“We all forget that,” Rhodey says, raising his eyebrow at him. “You’re perpetually twelve—”
“You didn’t even know me when I was twelve—”
“You’re twelve now—”
Peter sighs. “Well, he normally remembers, and he was the one at my graduation screaming and yelling and making a big scene so, that’s not really—easily forgotten, and he was being weird about Spider-Man the other day—”
“Weird how?” Rhodey asks, turning towards him completely, now. “Because he’s always weird about Spider-Man. Every other day he’s messaging me like how do we convince Peter to retire?”
Peter clicks his tongue. “Asking me things he knows. Like how I make my webs and which suit is my favorite and—I don’t know, stuff like that. Weird stuff.”
“You’ve been staying at the compound since that guy tried to break in?”
“Yeah,” Peter says. “Me and May both, the apartment has that infestation, everybody’s out for at least a week.”
He clears his throat. The guy trying to break in was weird—he seemed normal, no powers, no real intentions, he got pretty far but was taken down fast, and he didn’t seem at all—fazed, by any of it. He was even polite.
Maybe it got under Tony’s skin? A lot of stuff like that does. They’ve been through enough, with the dying, coming back again two years later, him nearly dying trying to fix it all—a petty thief trying to get into an Avengers compound is just the kind of irritation that might set him off. Last straw kinda deal.
Rhodey stares over at Tony again, and Peter looks too. Tony is being twitchy. He’s talking to waiters and he’s got his hands behind his back and his fingers are twitching.
“Has Pepper said anything to you?” Rhodey asks.
“Has Pepper said anything to you?” Peter asks, raising his eyebrows. “Because she’s more likely—I mean, with me, we talk about MIT, when I start, how my summer’s going, we talk about, um, TikTok recipes, we talk about MJ, and Tony in the capacity of like, Iron Man, and Spider-Man, or his birthday, or Christmas, but not like—I’m just saying, she’s more likely to—have said something to you, or Happy, than me.”
“No, she hasn’t, but now that you mention—and he is acting weird right now—and yesterday he did get off the phone fast, different from how he normally…” Rhodey trails off, shaking his head.
“Maybe he’s sick?” Peter asks, worrying a little bit more now. He thought maybe he was overreacting, he thought Rhodey would brush him off and he’d feel better and then Tony would magically start acting normal again after the conversation. “Nervous? He doesn’t usually—”
“No,” Rhodey says, shaking his head. “Not nervous, these things are—easy, like the back of his hand—sick, maybe, but I thought he was well beyond hiding sick from us, so I hope not—” He looks resolute, all of a sudden, and he claps Peter on the shoulder. “I’m gonna go talk to him. We’ve got an hour or so still, of set-up, so let’s just—just keep on putting out the numbers, doing everything on your list—”
“Okay,” Peter says, nodding, and Rhodey pats him on the shoulder again, moving past him. Peter watches, nonchalantly, as Rhodey walks up to Tony, taking his arm and sort of moving him across the room.
And it’s probably fine.
Rhodey’s gonna talk to him, figure it out, and it’s gonna be okay.
Peter keeps repeating that to himself, as he does his little jobs, and he marks them off his list in his notepad—table numbers, check, badges at the door, check, banners, check, taste test the hors d'oeuvres, mostly check, and he totally had that spelled wrong in his notes and it’s fine—
And when people start to arrive, he realizes that he hasn’t seen Tony or Rhodey since—Rhodey left to go talk to him.
And he gets a little nervous and he looks around, trying to scan the room—not completely full yet, and nothing’s started, but Pepper is here and he sees Happy—
—and May makes him jump when she shows up behind him.
“What’s wrong, honey?” she says, giving him that look, that look that’s gotten sharper and even more severe with every one of his near death experiences.
So he decides not to tell her what’s going on in his head. Which is usually the opposite of what she wants, but this probably isn’t anything, so. “Nothing,” he says, clearing his throat, still trying to scan around. But Tony and Rhodey aren’t here, not anywhere he can see.
“That’s not your nothing face,” she says, rubbing his arm. “Do you have a job you’re supposed to be doing? Is your brain tingling?”
He narrows his eyes at her. “No, it’s—no, it’s not—I gotta, uh, one second—can you make sure you get me one of those little wonton things? Or like three of them? I keep seeing them on the trays and I haven’t gotten to try one yet—”
“You’re concerned about that?” she asks, her eyes still worried and distrustful.
“Yes,” he says, grinning at her quickly before he starts to go looking.
Part of him feels like he should say something to Pepper, but he doesn’t want to stress her out—and like, it’s probably nothing, everything is probably fine, and he makes a beeline for the door that leads to the little backstage area.
“Tony?” he says, and the crowd noise goes muffled when he lets the door swing closed behind him. It’s so quiet back here—he doesn’t even see any of the employees or the guys that do the lights or any of Tony’s security—there wasn’t even anybody at the door when he scanned in.
He hears what sounds like something—brushing against the ground—
“Tony?” Peter asks again, glancing around. “Rhodey? Are you guys, uh—I feel like we’re getting ready to—”
Peter turns another corner and stops dead.
Rhodey is on the ground, knocked out, and Tony is dragging him by the arms. He looks up, and sees Peter there, and the look on his face—he doesn’t—Peter’s brain is going a mile a minute and he’s already surging forward to help but the look on Tony’s face—it registers somewhere in the back of Peter’s mind…
“Oh my God, what—what happened?” Peter asks, rushing over and kneeling down next to Rhodey. “What happened, what did—”
“Uh, he fell,” Tony says, and he kneels down next to him. He nods, and widens his eyes and shakes his head, and he doesn’t seem nearly as concerned as he usually would be. Tony normally loses his mind when Rhodey so much as gets a paper cut, so this is…this is…
“How?” Peter asks, looking at Tony and back at Rhodey again. “He was just—”
“I don’t think he ate enough,” Tony says.
Every alarm bell is going off in Peter’s head. They’ve been going off tonight, and for a couple days, honestly, if he really thinks about it, but it’s loud now. He feels like time is slowing down, like his vision is getting narrow, like all of his senses are on high and zeroing in.
And it feels wrong. The shift in the air and his own suspicion, it feels wrong. What would be wrong with Tony?
But that’s where this is going.
It’s focusing on him.
Peter looks at Rhodey, and there’s a bruise on his cheek—
And Tony is clenching and unclenching his fist—
“Tony?” Peter asks, slowly, glancing up at him. His brain isn’t working. It isn’t working and it’s working too fast and he feels like he’s trudging through sludge. Every move is the wrong move.
And Peter looks at him in a certain way. With suspicion. And he hates it, and he feels sick, but he can’t shake it—
And Tony doesn’t answer him. He just looks at him, and the light that’s usually behind his eyes is gone, and his expression is one Peter doesn’t recognize.
Like someone else is living in his skin.
And just as that thought takes hold and sends chills down Peter’s spine, setting off a whole new line of panicked questions in his head, Tony clicks his tongue. And he sighs.
“Shit,” he breathes. And it’s his voice, of course it’s his voice, but it sounds twisted, and different, and before Peter can even react, before he can pounce on the alarm bells and the way his senses are narrowing and signaling, Tony surges forward with a stiff arm to Peter’s throat, and knocking him to the ground.
Tony punches him, with his full strength behind it, and Peter is so shocked that he doesn’t even block, and he tastes blood immediately. He winces, gasping, and he blocks the next one, and then Tony is grabbing his forearms and tossing him across the room.
Peter hits a thing of shelving, and a bunch of buckets fall down on top of him, and through the pandemonium, he sees Tony running away from him.
“What the fuck,” Peter breathes, and he scrambles to his feet—
And Tony would never hit him, ever, not ever, and Peter’s head pounds, with the force of the punches, with the alarms going off, with fear and worry, and is this a clone, is it mind control—either way he has to get him, there’s a reason, but what is it, what is it—
And if he’s a clone it’d be different, but if it’s mind control, Peter might be able to get through to him, he might be able to break it—
And Peter scrambles to his feet, wiping the blood from under his nose with the back of his hand, and he starts taking off in the same direction Tony did—
And he can’t even call his name before he’s taking the full force of a repulsor blast.
He’s knocked backwards again, slamming into the wall, and he can feel it cave in against his back with the strength of the hit. He coughs, gasping, and his jacket is smoldering and his skin underneath it is too, and he sees Tony standing there with the repulsor aimed at him—he’s only wearing one, and Peter rolls out of the way, narrowly avoiding getting hit again and trying to catch his breath.
He’s not thinking, because nothing makes sense, and Peter just rushes at him and tackles him to the floor—
And Tony punches him again, with the iron hand this time, and Peter’s neck twists hard with the hit—his jaw cracks, blood in his teeth—
And everything in him is screaming to fight back, fight back, but it’s Tony, he—he can’t—he can’t hurt him he fucking can’t hurt him—
And he grimaces, metal in his mouth, and grabs both of Tony’s wrists, mid-flail, and pins him to the ground—
“Doesn’t fucking matter, it’s set,” Tony hisses, and he doesn’t even sound like himself, and the way his face is contorting, he doesn’t look like himself either. Peter’s heart is in his throat, and he dodges another repulsor blast that Tony manages to get off, and Peter covers the repulsor with his hand and twists Tony’s fist and focuses—
“What is? What is?” Peter knows it’s not him, not right now, not really, but he can’t help— “Tony, Tony, are you in there? Are you in there, can you hear—”
“It’ll still do damage where it is—they’d never scan Tony Stark himself at one of his own events,” Tony says, and he grins, manic. “Good way to get it done, huh? One big blast, kill him, ruin his reputation at the same time—”
And Peter’s mind drifts again, like a lifeboat at sea, and he remembers Tony saying earlier that he wouldn’t need his webshooters here, but he packed them anyway. He remembers him with a gym bag, a duffel, he remembers oh nothing, just a few extra lights, and May is here and Rhodey and Happy and people are starting to arrive and Tony himself—Tony himself, and he’s not a clone, he’s not, they’re—they’re trying to kill him, it’s—it’s mind control, it has to be, they used him to smuggle a device in, and they’re trying to kill him—
Peter’s mind drifts, and guides him, and every time it feels like a pull, like a bunch of arrows, but this is more powerful than he’s felt in a while—
And Tony knees him in the stomach, knocking the wind out of him again—Tony grabs him by his shoulders and Peter wrenches away, and they both stumble to their feet again and for a minute they’re in a boxing match, except Peter keeps getting hit, because he’s pulling his punches, because it’s Tony, it’s Tony—
“Stop, stop, stop, you’re—”
Another blow across his cheek, breaking the skin, and he hears a high pitch in his ear, and Tony grabs him by the throat and shoves him against the wall—
And Peter gasps, and pushes him, hard, and Tony trips back and nearly falls and even the way he’s moving right now doesn’t seem like him—
And Peter rushes away and tries to run, his head drifting, pulling him, alert, alert—
Webshooters, backpack, the duffel—they were together, he left it—left it with their stuff, back here, when they—when they got here—
And there are arrows in his head and they’re pulsing and buzzing like neon signs, and he knows he’s going the right way—
But he’s being pulled back to the ground by his ankle, and his head cracks on the tile, and it’s stars and metal and arrows and buzz buzz, how much time is on the clock, we don’t know, we don’t even know it’s a bomb, we don’t even know if it’s counting down, but it sure as shit feels like it—
And he tries to scramble up again and his spidey sense can usually help him from all angles, but it feels off, here, and he knows it is when Tony hits him in the face again, when he grabs him and throws him—and punches him again, rattling his brain in his skull—
And it’s because it’s Tony, because he’s not—he’s not a threat, but he is, he is, right now he is—
“Tony!” Peter yells, because maybe he can get through, maybe he can— “Please—”
And he dodges out of the way of another hit, and stumbles up against the far wall in the narrow backstage hallway—
“Tony, this isn’t—it’s me, it’s Peter, Tony, you have to fight this!” he yells, and he starts running again—again—
“He’s not home!” Tony sing-songs, laughing. “Should have known you’d be fucking trouble, a stupid fucking kid is Spider-Man—”
And Peter runs from him, and sees the fire alarm on the wall, and he grabs it and pulls it as he passes it by—
And the alarm goes off in the real world now, in tune with the one in his head, flashing red and white. He hears Tony curse and yell behind him, and Peter has to—he has to—
Doesn’t fucking matter, it’s set—it’ll still do damage where it is—
It has to be a bomb, it has to be—
And he grits his teeth—Tony is still on his heels, and tears sting in Peter’s eyes along with the heartbeat thump of the pulp his face is turning into, and he sucks in a breath and dodges another repulsor blast—
He has to get him to stop, stop, stop trying to stop him—
And he turns around, and tries to hold back and focus at the same time—
“I’m sorry, I’m—I’m so so sorry—”
And he punches him once, and then again, directly in the face, and Peter knows how strong he is and he tries not to hurt him too badly, and Tony crumples and Peter catches him, guiding him to the ground—
And even though the arrows and the alarms are buzzing and jolting in Peter’s entire body now, he sniffles through the blood and makes sure Tony is still breathing, makes sure he still has a pulse, and he is, he does, and Peter squeezes his shoulder and he can’t think about after, not til they get there—
“I’m sorry,” he breathes, squeezing his shoulder again. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry—”
And he gets up and he doesn’t let himself look back and he starts running again—
And he’s limping now, and he doesn’t know where that came from, and he finds the place where they stored their bags—
And alarms in his head, and the fire alarm in the building, and lights flashing on and off and he can hear the insanity in the main ballroom, and he finds the duffel and rips it open and—
It is a bomb.
And it’s got a five minute counter.
Peter scrambles, his head pounding pulsing sick, and he gets his webshooters out and puts them on and grabs the entire duffel bag and slings it over his shoulder.
And he makes a break through the nearest emergency door.
And he gets a running start and leaps into a swing, and his whole face hurts and the emergency in his head is steeping him in a bubble now, because the source is with him, and the danger is still back there, because he doesn’t know if knocking Tony out broke the mind control or if he’s gonna wake up still trapped as an angry Terminator—
And Peter swings, trying to launch himself higher and higher, and he can hear the timer clicking and he keeps track of the count and he can’t be a second off or this is gonna go south—
And it might not work anyway—
And this is dire straits, but Peter finds himself thinking of normal things, and they rise above the noise in his head and the oncoming sirens and he doesn’t feel calm, exactly—his face is pulsing with the pain of the hits he took and he feels like he lost a couple teeth, and his shoulder feels like it’s not in the socket properly every time he swings higher, and his leg is in fire and his spidey sense is an orb of panic, encasing him in a snow globe, but—
He thinks of watching that African Grey Parrot with MJ and Ned the other day, for two hours straight, wiping out the entire YouTube catalog of all his antics. He thinks about the yoga class with May at Bryant Park they got with that Groupon and the seven chai lattes she had lined up beside her mat like bowling pins. He thinks about touring the MIT campus with Tony and the way he introduced him to everybody and said this kid is gonna be the best student you ever have. Sharing french fries at Sebastian’s Cafe. I’m so proud of you.
And he hears the beeping speed up, and he’s thinking of all of that and everything else and why did I wear these shoes why not the brown ones as he tosses the duffel into the air at the arc of his highest swing, and it explodes above him in a mess of orange fireball and knocks him right out of the air—
~
Tony wakes up broken apart.
He doesn’t open his eyes right away. He’s not in the vice grip anymore, not locked into some subconscious pit in his own body while some asshole takes the reins, but he feels like—he feels like the asshole could take over again at any minute, like he’s still in his head somewhere. Dormant, waiting for a moment of weakness so he can shove Tony back down in his cage—
His hands are cuffed together, and he’s—he’s cuffed to something—
He groans, rattling his hands a little bit, and he wakes up and—
Rhodey and Pepper are there. He’s on the floor, and cuffed to a pipe in the wall, and they’re sitting in front of him, and they both look wary and he doesn’t fucking blame them, and his head is pounding and his memories are slapdash watercolor but—
“It’s me,” he breathes, his throat hurting. “It’s me, it’s me—”
“There’s something wrong with you,” Rhodey says, and he exchanges a look with Pepper. He’s got a butterfly bandage on his cheek and Tony thinks that’s me, my fault and what else did he, what else—
“No, I know,” Tony says, squeezing his eyes shut, and his head is pounding and it feels like someone shredded him from the inside out, and—
Tony, you have to fight this—
He remembers, barely—the NYPD taking that guy away, laughing at the idea that they had to ‘save Iron Man’, and he was alone that night and still skeeved off over the whole thing and then he felt the pinch on his arm and felt the thing burrowing and he panicked and he couldn’t even panic for long enough before he seized, before he fell inside himself—
“Thing in my arm,” he croaks, still squeezing his eyes shut tight, because light hurts because voices hurt because everything hurts, and he’s trying to put together the puzzle of his memories and he feels like he might throw up because—because he’s here now but the other guy—he’s here too, he’s still in there, he’s still—and any moment he could— “There’s a thing in my upper arm, left arm—you need to—dig it out, I think it’s right below—right under the skin, it’s like—it made me—made me susceptible, created a link, I don’t fucking know, get it out. You need to get it out.”
“Tony, what—”
Pepper’s voice.
“Pep, he’s—”
“It’s me right now, get it out of my arm or it might not be me in—” He opens his eyes too fast, and really feels like he’s gonna fucking throw up, and they’re both looking at him like he’s the biggest piece of trash they’ve ever had the misfortune of knowing, and that makes him sick too, and what did he—what did he do, what—puzzle pieces, shifting, falling off a glass table—
And he feels his hands breaking skin—
“Jesus Christ,” Rhodey says, and he shifts around and moves over to Tony’s left side, pushing up his sleeve. Tony isn’t even sure where the hell they are right now—he was deep inside, dark and dank and paralyzed in his own body—
“Jesus,” Rhodey says again, and Tony cranes his neck a bit and sees it, feels Rhodey running his finger over a little bump in his arm about the size of a nickel—
“Cut it out,” Tony says, closing his eyes again. “I’m serious, find a knife, cut it out, that’s—”
“Tony,” Pepper says, and she’s rubbing his knee—
“Pepper,” Rhodey says, in that warning tone he has, and the fact that he has to warn Tony’s wife not to touch him is just—
“Cut it out, Rhodey, I’m serious—”
“Alright, Jesus Christ, alright—” And he scrambles away—
“Sterilize it, Rhodey,” Pepper calls after him, looking at Tony again. Her face is streaked with worry, and she looks at him with wariness and pity and love all at the same time. “Tony, why didn’t you—you couldn’t say—”
“I was here but I wasn’t,” he breathes, and the cuffs are hurting his wrists, and everything is fucking hurting, and what did he do what did he do how the fuck long has it been. “Someone—someone got me, I let my guard down and someone—”
It was so easy. The guy used himself as a distraction, as bait, and then he—he did whatever the hell he did and then he was in Tony’s head—
“Okay, okay,” Rhodey says, rushing back around the corner again. “Close your eyes, Tony, if you are—Tony, goddamnit—”
Tony swallows hard, nodding and closing his eyes, and he winces, holding onto the pipe as Rhodey cuts into his skin. He does it fast, and Tony grits his teeth, and he feels Rhodey take the thing out and then he hears him stomping and stomping and stomping—
Feels like plates falling and crashing to the ground inside Tony’s skull.
He doesn’t get it all, but he gets flashes—the bomb under his hands, Rhodey confronting him, Peter—
Peter.
He remembers hitting him. Over and over, and is that the same hit or—how many times did he—
Peter hitting the wall, and Tony recoils, a tremor running through him, and what did he, what did—
“Where’s Peter?” he asks, looking back and forth at them. His arm is throbbing, everything hurts, he’s frail and sick and he’s probably gonna fucking puke but he doesn’t care. “Where’s Peter, where is he?”
They both just stare at him, and kind of look at each other, and Tony’s heart sinks.
“What, did I kill him?” he asks, his voice breaking. He grabs onto the bar he’s cuffed to, feeling like he needs to hold on. He’s terrified. “What, what? Where is he?”
“Tony, you were…” Rhodey starts, shaking his head. “You—the kid knew you were acting weird and I went to confront you and you knocked me out—and I guess—Jesus, I guess you were—are, I don’t goddamn know—being mind controlled, and you brought a bomb in here—we’re at the gala, for the new facility—and Peter sussed you out and you two got into it and he knocked you out and I guess—knocked this guy’s control on you loose enough—but he—he took the bomb and—he had webshooters and he—”
Tony closes his eyes, white noise eating into his vision, and he feels like he’s gonna pass out. “Is Peter dead?” he breathes, shaking.
“We’re trying to find him,” Pepper says, and she rubs Tony’s knee again. “Some people got footage, he tossed it into the air and he was blown back and now we can’t—Happy is out there looking, Sam and Natasha are looking, we’ve got emergency deployment teams looking—”
“Uncuff me, please,” Tony half-whispers, because his voice gets caught in his throat. “I need to help, I need to—I need to help look for him—”
“Tony, you’re—”
“He’s not in my head anymore,” Tony snaps, looking at Rhodey. He doesn’t know how the fuck he can prove that, but he can feel it now. It’s different, he’s—he feels ill, and weak, but he doesn’t feel trapped. He doesn’t feel like the ground is about to fall out from underneath him. “And you need to find someone to get that dipshit, he was supposed to be in jail, but right now, I’m—I’m in here alone, okay? I wanna help look for Peter, I want to—please let me, please. You can stay with me, but I need to—just—please. Please.”
Pepper and Rhodey exchange a look, and Tony keeps getting flashes—his fist connecting with Peter’s face, grabbing him and throwing him against the wall—and he shakes them off, swallowing hard. “Please,” he breathes.
Rhodey heaves a sigh. “Lemme get the key.”
~
Tony watches the footage from the quinjet while they scan over the city. He was ruthless, relentless, and he watches himself grab Peter by the throat, toss him every which way, hit him and hit him and hit him again. He made him bleed, over and over, he shot him and burned him up and dragged him to the ground, and Peter barely fought him. He actively avoided it, and got worse because of it. Tony keeps watching, and before long Clint is walking over and taking the phone from him.
“It wasn’t you,” he says, giving him a pointed look. “Alright? You know that. It wasn’t you.”
“Sure looked like me,” Tony says, getting up and walking back over to Friday’s main control panel. Peter wasn’t in a suit, so this is harder than normal.
“It wasn’t,” Clint says, sitting back in the pilot’s seat. And he doesn’t say much else about it, but Tony knows he knows firsthand what he’s going through, what this feels like. And it helps a little bit, but not much. The images are imprinted in his head.
He loves Peter. May trusts Tony with her nephew, her surrogate son, the person in her care, and it’s gotten to the point that it’s just a given that Peter is safe with Tony, that Tony’s always gonna help him and protect him. But now there’s this. Now there’s Tony punching him and hitting him and choking him and making him bleed, and he looks down at his hands and they shake.
Nobody else was hurt, he didn’t do anything else, but that’s because Peter took the bomb. He took that on himself, Tony’s mistake, Tony’s problem, and he put himself in danger to solve it and save everybody. And now they can’t find him.
Tony wavers back down into the closest seat.
“Stop beating yourself up,” Pepper says, walking out of the back compartment and sitting down next to him. “It wasn’t you. You’re a victim here too.”
“I hurt him, whether it was…me in charge or not,” Tony says, his eyes straining with tears as he looks at her. “These hands hurt him. And I almost…blew up the goddamn gala, if it wasn’t for him noticing—”
“I didn’t notice,” she says. “I should have—Rhodey should have—”
“You guys are busy,” Tony says, looking at the screen again. He’s got a social media tracker up too, and so many people are talking about what happened. Peter didn’t have a mask on, but thankfully, there’s no good footage of his face.
Everyone is calling him a hero. Because that’s exactly what he is, what he always has been.
“You need people to look out for you too,” Pepper says, running her hand through his hair. “We should have done better, but Peter’s got that little…alert system in his brain, and he’s intuitive, and he knows you. He loves you, he worries.”
Tony shakes his head, looking down at his hands again. He knows May is with Happy, searching, and he can’t even imagine how she feels right now. He feels fucking sick.
“You need someone to check you out too,” Pepper says, still touching him gently, and he doesn’t deserve that either. “Probably have a concussion.”
“Not til we find him,” Tony croaks. “Doesn’t matter.”
“Tony,” she says, but he shakes his head. He’s supposed to be better than this. They defeated a fucking Titan, they defied death and time and saved the goddamn world. And he lets a petty thief mind control him? Take away his agency? Hit Rhodey, threaten an event with innocent people, hurt Peter, badly, put him in harm’s way—
“Tony,” Clint says. “I think we got something.”
~
Peter needs to get up.
He’s been laying here for forty five years he’s an old man now—
He needs to get back he needs to fix Tony so nothing else happens he needs to protect him and get that guy that did this it must have been that guy that’s when it started and he doesn’t know how he did it but he mind controlled him somehow—
Peter coughs, twisting onto his side, and he spits out some blood, and a tooth, and he hopes it’s his wisdom tooth that’s been bothering him the top right one—
He got exploded, that’s right—
And his face hurts, and where the repulsor got him is burning and he feels like he’s wheezing and he falls back on his back again and he feels like he’s on fire a little bit and is his left eye closed or welded closed or gone forever and his leg—twisted—
And just a second just a second—
Black again, in a wonder wheel of spiraling stars—
“Hey, hey. Pete.”
He opens his eyes. Tony is there, cupping his face in his hands, and Peter smiles a little bit, dizzy.
“Is it you?” he asks, or thinks he asks. He can’t hear his own voice. Tony sounded muffled too, but he nods at him.
“It’s me,” he says. He looks so sad. “I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.”
Peter closes his eyes again, because they’re so heavy. “It’s okay,” he says, and he feels like he’s being lifted up, and he doesn’t remember anything else after—
He opens his eyes. He feels like he’s moving, and he recognizes the tiny medical room in the quinjet. Tony is right next to him, and he stands up when he sees Peter’s awake, and is Peter awake? He feels…crazy, he feels…
“Tony,” he says, and he tries to sit up. “Is it you? Is it you? Are you—”
“I’m not gonna hurt you,” Tony says, stepping closer. He still sounds muffled, and faraway, and so does everything else. But he looks like himself. He’s not off anymore. “I’m not gonna hurt you again. Jesus, Pete, I’m so sorry—”
Peter shakes his head, blinking at him. “You didn’t, you—it wasn’t you, you didn’t—”
“I did, technically,” Tony says, and he just stands there and he’s got tears in his eyes and he isn’t really looking at him. He’s close, but he’s keeping his distance. “We’re on our way back, to the compound, May and everybody else is meeting us there—you, uh, you saved everybody, you’re burned in a couple places from the blast and my—goddamn repulsor, but Helen’s gonna—when we get back, she’s going to—”
He sighs, stops talking and rests his elbows on the bar of the bed, and hangs his head, like he’s ashamed. Peter hasn’t ever really seen him like this, and his brain still feels like it’s swiss cheese but he sits up a little bit more. He covers Tony’s hands with his own and squeezes them, and tries not to think about how much everything hurts.
“You wouldn’t be mad at me if this was opposite,” Peter says, staring at the top of his head. “You wouldn’t. You wouldn’t blame me at all and I don’t blame you either so. So. Just don’t even, I mean. Just don’t.”
“You can’t even talk straight,” Tony says, still not looking up.
“That’s most of the time,” Peter says, still holding onto his hands.
Tony sighs. “I put you in danger and I hurt you. I watched the footage, it was a fucking nightmare, and you let me keep hitting you because you know how strong you are and you didn’t want to hurt me so you just let me keep hurting you—”
“It wasn’t you,” Peter says, trying to be assertive, and he’s so tired, he’s so, so tired. He leans forward, resting his head on Tony’s shoulder, and he closes his eyes. “It wasn’t your fault. It isn’t. So stop. I know you won’t and you’re gonna live in this and punish yourself forever but like, don’t. Don’t do that.” He sighs, leaning into him. “Did you guys get the bad guy—”
“Sounded like it,” Tony says, and he’s still hanging his head, and Peter sighs. “I think so. I gotta check in with Rhodey again. Make sure nobody else got mind controlled.”
“So it all worked out,” Peter says.
“You nearly getting exploded is not it all working out.”
“I didn’t get exploded I only got slightly singed and nobody else got exploded and you are no longer mind controlled so. Win to me.”
Tony sighs again, and he gently, very gently, wraps his arms around Peter and hugs him. “I’m gonna jump off a fucking roof,” he says. “I never wanna hurt you. Never. I can barely remember it, I’ve got flashes—”
“Don’t try,” Peter says, reaching up and holding onto his arm.
“—but I saw the footage—”
“Forget it,” Peter says. “Erase it.”
Tony shakes his head. “I’m sorry,” he whispers. “I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have ever—allowed it to happen in the first place, and I still don’t know how the hell it did, and I’ve just got—a lot of work to do, to make sure it doesn’t happen again. I can’t let myself get taken like that, used like a fucking goon against people I love. Jesus Christ. You’re hurt because of me.”
“Nope,” Peter says, because he doesn’t have the brain power to try and fight him harder, even though he knows it’s gonna be a guilt battle probably for the rest of their lives.
“Pete,” Tony says, still holding onto him.
“Nope,” Peter says again, and he drifts. Spidey sense is dormant. He’s a piece of raw meat but he’s—safe.
~
And Tony isn’t there when Peter wakes up again, back at the compound. May is there, and after she hugs him and kisses him about a hundred times, she breaks out the Tupperware, containing all the little appetizers from the gala that never was.
And Tony stays missing in action the next couple days, even though everyone else comes by to see how Peter is doing. Rhodey implies that Tony paid a special visit to the asshole that did this, but he doesn’t go into detail on what the encounter entailed. The guy did have hidden powers, clearly, and Doctor Strange even gets involved trying to figure out how he did it, what exactly that thing was that they pulled out of Tony’s arm.
But three days later and Peter still hasn’t seen him again.
“Maybe he’s busy,” Ned says, as he and Peter and MJ walk up and down the hallways. Peter broke his ankle, somewhere in all the insanity, and pulled a muscle in his calf. He’s been trying to walk around a lot during the day, even though he’s still on bed rest.
“He’s not busy,” Peter says. “He’s avoiding me.”
“Well, he beat the shit out of you, and he feels bad,” MJ says.
Peter sighs.
“I’d feel bad too,” MJ says, “even if I was mind controlled. It still sucks, I mean, when I saw him his knuckles were still all bruised. Just a constant reminder of what someone made him do.”
“You saw him?” Peter asks, looking at her.
She looks a little bit like she wants to take a back, but she nods. “Yeah, uh, earlier. When I got here, when I was talking to Pepper.”
“Did you talk to him?” Peter asks, as they turn around at the end of the hall. He’s trying to sound nonchalant and failing spectacularly.
“Not really,” MJ says, taking Peter’s hand. “He wouldn’t really even look at me, I can tell he—he’s just really guilty. He feels really bad.”
“Peter doesn’t want him to feel bad,” Ned says.
“Yeah, but once you feel bad, you feel bad,” MJ says, “it’s not like it magically goes away because someone says that it should.”
“Maybe we can magic him,” Ned says. “Doctor Strange, you know. He could do that.”
“Yeah, let’s just hack into his mind again,” MJ says, widening her eyes at him. “I’m sure that’s the right course of action.”
Peter sighs again. “I don’t know what to do,” he says. “He could do this forever. And ever and ever.”
“Well, definitely as long as you’re all bruised up,” MJ says, reaching over with her free hand and brushing her thumb over Peter’s cheek.
~
And two more days go by without seeing Tony, and it’s almost time for Peter and May to head back to their apartment, even though May said they could stay at the compound as long as he wanted to.
And Peter decides to do something.
“Friday is he still there?” Peter asks, making his way down to the workshop.
“Yes, Peter,” Friday says, in Peter’s ear.
“And you’re not lying to me?” Peter asks, rushing down the stairs, quick as he can with a bum leg.
“No, Peter,” Friday says. “I am not permitted to lie to you.”
Peter smiles to himself. He knows he still doesn’t look wonderful, but he looks a lot better than he did, and either way he can’t take this anymore. And he gets down to the workshop in what feels like record time and he scans in without trying to make a lot of noise, and when he opens the door he sees Tony at the back door as if he’s trying to escape.
“Stop!” Peter yells, his hands up. “Stop! Don’t leave!”
Tony whips around, his eyebrows furrowed. “Kid?” he says, already walking back over in his direction. “Are you okay?”
“No!” Peter says, a little more forcefully than he intended to.
“What’s wrong?” Tony asks, gently, weaving around the work stations and reaching his side.
“You’re ignoring me!” Peter says, and he sounds like a small, stupid child, but he doesn’t do anything to change that. “And I don’t like it.”
Tony’s face falls, and he nods, glancing away from him. “I’m not…ignoring you, I just—I felt like—”
“I know you feel bad,” Peter says, sucking in a big breath. “And I know me telling you not to feel bad doesn’t change the fact that you feel bad, but I seriously don’t want you to feel bad, because now this whole like—keeping yourself separate and out of my sight thing feels like you’re punishing me.”
“I’m not,” Tony says, fast. “I was just—”
“You don’t need to punish yourself either—”
“I wasn’t really…exactly…c’mere, come sit down—”
“I’m okay,” Peter says.
“I know, I know, I wanna sit,” Tony says, taking Peter’s arm and tugging him over to the closest workstation with two rolling chairs. They sit down, and they both sigh, and Tony keeps talking. “I was just, uh—I sent out messages to everyone involved at the gala explaining things a little bit, and I got everything rescheduled on my own, and I, uh—met up with the asshole at Riker’s and attacked him and nearly got arrested myself—”
Peter leans on the workstation, running his hands over his face. He can imagine that, and he doesn’t like it.
“—and I’ve been building some new security protocols, and working on another nano suit for you that’s a lot like my watch gauntlet that can—stay on your person, read your heart rate, come to you if you need it—but I’m trying to make sure it only comes in the correct instance, and not if you like, see a cute dog—”
Peter laughs a little bit, shaking his head at him.
Tony smiles softly. “But I’ve been doing all that, along with maybe, slightly punishing myself by—staying out of your way—”
“You’re not in my way,” Peter says, feeling a little bit too emotional, maybe. “You’re not. You never have been. Never will be.”
“You don’t know that—”
“Tony—”
“What I mean is…old man, long shadow, you know, I’ve been there—”
“You’re not your dad,” Peter says, shaking his head at him. “You’re a good—you’re a good father figure, you’re a…good father.”
Tony brightens up a little bit, and his nod almost looks like a question. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” Peter says. “No matter what.”
Tony nods again, more solidly this time. “One more thing—”
“No more saying sorry,” Peter says, shaking his head. “You told me I can never say sorry again, well now, you can’t either so, how about—”
“Thank you,” Tony says, and Peter stops talking. “Thank you for—realizing that something was wrong, thank you for figuring it out, thank you for knocking me on my ass when I wasn’t me, thank you for—saving everybody and me too, in the process. Thank you, Pete, really. Thank you.”
Peter’s throat goes tight, and there are tears in his eyes, and he nods again. “You’re welcome,” he says, holding his chin high. “Any time.”
“And I’m sorry,” Tony says, fast, rolling forward and wrapping him up in a big hug. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Last time, I’m sorry. Okay I’m done. I’m so sorry. Okay I’m actually done.”
Peter snorts, hugging him too, burying his face in his shoulder. “No more mind control,” he says, letting the apologies drift into the air unanswered.
“Oh no, never again,” Tony says, rubbing Peter’s back. “And I figure, when you’re—when you’re tip top again, we can get into the ring, and I’ll feel better if you get a few good shots in, and I’ll forget about the whole thing if you break my nose—”
“No,” Peter says, shaking his head and still holding onto him. “I’m not doing that.”
“Too afraid to box an old man, huh?”
“My old man, maybe,” Peter says, feeling particularly sentimental.
And Tony laughs, in a rush of breath, and holds him reverently for a second. He pulls back, and pats Peter’s cheek. “We’ll see,” he says. “Might get Rhodey in there too, to make it fair—”
“He’ll probably take you up on that,” Peter says, getting to his feet. “Okay, lemme see the suit, remember I get last say in design decisions—”
“Oh, you aren’t going for bright yellow?” Tony asks, resting his hand on Peter’s shoulder as they head over to the main workstation. “You don’t like that?”
“Better than that time you tried to integrate green and made me look like a Christmas tree,” Peter says, grinning at him.
“Hey,” Tony says, typing in a few commands and bringing up the specs. “I thought that was very festive.”
And they start working, and Peter remembers feeling safe, before, when they were on the quinjet and his brain was still scrambled. But he feels like they’re on the other side of it now, for real.
Safe. Really, truly safe.
