@survnet i have given this leagues more thought than i probably have ought to have... i like to think she had a swiss father and an american mother. which is important because all swiss men are required to serve in the army, and i like to think the stew in question is a variation of swiss army stew. a dish acquired by her father, improved upon by her mother, and taught very diligently to her.
that's really the only reason it's the only dish she never burns. it's the only dish she was taught by hand. reading a recipe off of a slip of paper just isn't the same thing...
the main meat is beef, though back at home she used to add in chunks of sausage, as well (she stopped after she moved out of switzerland... the quality of the pork is pathetic when compared to that of home). beyond that, she uses a variety of root vegetables (carrots, potatoes, and celery usually; leeks if they're available), cabbage, and maybe some mushrooms or peas for some texture variation.
she really likes it. which is good, because i like to think it's supplanting at least 70% of her diet post leaving zoraxis. maybe more.
#ieytd#commander solaris#headcanons#her stew lore... i think too much about her beautiful stew#get you a woman who cooks you a gorgeous stew#get you a woman who makes you a beautiful stew that tastes like a home you've never been to#not to turn everything into a fabbylaris discussion. but i like to think fabby and solaris go out to eat a lot#and since its normally fabby's idea. a lot of the times they go out to these classy high end french places#of which there are no short supply of... tasting food that reminds fabby of home#and it takes... christ‚ it takes YEARS for fabby to realize... solaris has no version of that for herself. no bit of culture from home.#no one really thinks about switzerland‚ do they...#all she has is her stews...
