My last post was being snarky but here's my genuine pronoun etiquette opinion in case you actually want to know: it's pretty much never a good idea to directly ask someone their pronouns in front of a group of people, especially if you're in a position of authority, i.e. a teacher. The stakes of this question are very high for some people and you are putting them on the spot to decide what they want to share and what is safe to share. If you have decided you want to ask for pronouns at all, you can introduce yourself with your own to remind people that they can share theirs if they want to. And for the love of god whatever you do please do not just single out the most gender non-conforming or "trans looking" (to you) person and ask only them and no one else

listen I know it's heartbreaking that Claudia dies and it's understandable to wish she didn't, but let's please not accuse the writers of fridging her. to do so is a fundamental misunderstanding of the story and is frankly insulting to the intelligence and skill of the writers of the show.

Claudia's death, and the overwhelming grief and regret her parents experience because of it, is quite literally the point of the entire story. she dies because Anne's daughter Michele died of leukemia when she was five years old and there was nothing she or her husband could do to prevent it.

writing IWTV was how Anne coped with the unimaginable loss of a parent losing her child. she created a story about a little girl that could not die and then killed her anyway. Claudia's death is a senseless, unavoidable tragedy, just like Michele's was. the grief that haunts Louis and Lestat for the rest of their lives is the same grief that haunted Anne and her husband.

so when you're accusing people of killing Claudia off to benefit a story about two men, please remember that in real life sometimes parents lose their children. please remember Michele Rice.

she's the reason Claudia exists.

she's also the reason Claudia cannot be saved.

There's a difference between hurting a character and reducing them to little more than a docile animal, forcing them to undergo painful operations that permanently disable them against their will. Regarding the screenshot: people can disagree with me all they want, but downplaying this, treating it like some kind of fun game is bizarre.

In the mid-1900s, mental health was not widely understood. Lobotomy is a common medical practice that dates back to that century. Patients were transferred to sanitariums against their will, mistreated by doctors, and the poor conditions of these places exacerbated their conditions, causing countless deaths, leading to suicides. Electroshock therapy is another method later used for the purpose of torture. What lobotomy involves is strapping someone down, drilling through their skull, and removing parts of the brain connected to lobes. Patients often required care for the rest of their lives, former personalities destroyed.

Regardless of how the surgery is performed, this is something that's killed real people. To dehumanize Jimmy like that just because you hate him is horrible. To draw a mentally ill man getting beaten up, tortured, and mistreated as many Mouthwashing fans unabashedly have isn't a form of justified revenge. Curly's state after the Tulpar crashes severely limits him to an extent where he relies on medication just to survive and is in contant pain, unable to talk or move independently, needing to be spoonfed. The swap AU (where Jimmy gets caught in the crash instead of Curly) is one thing... because it opens the venue for mature conversations about losing agency. That's the exception. Normally I'd say that I can't believe this trend is catching on. Knowing what fandoms are like nowadays, though, it doesn't really surprise me anymore.

I'm not usually a person who can feel distressed by any form of art, but all lobotomized Jimmy content is so disturbing in its nature I just can't stay silent. If you think that THIS is your perfect "good ending" for Mouthwashing, you're a hypocrite. Cause, hey. You "fixed him". He's peaceful now. Everyone's happy. The problem's gone. Congrats! Your problem solving skills are even WORSE than Jimmy's. Now pat yourselves on the head and make this shell of a human smile to Curly like its not the most disturbing thing you can do.

No person diserves to get ripped off the thing that makes us humans. Personality. Ability to think. Espessially no one deserves it done by a person you trust. Your friend. Your captain.

If this was an another story, I wouldn't say a thing. But it's Mouthwashing. A game which has taking responsibility as one of its themes. A game that shines with the depiction of characters' personalities. A game that makes you feel every thought of Jimmy as a central part of its experience.

And lobotomy?

Its not a "happy end". Not "fixing". Its cruelty. Not nessessary, deliberate cruelty that doesn't compare to Jimmy's impulsive cruel decisions in any way possible.
