I tried signing up for AAA in the parking lot so I didn't have to pay $200 again. But they wanted a $100 fee for using AAA within the first 3 days of signing up.

Ugh.

It sure would be nice to have a fund for emergencies. Like, I don't know, the inheritance my brother is holding hostage for a year.

Right as I was about to agree to a fun financial fucking from AAA, an elderly gentleman at the gas station knocked on my car and said, "Hey there boy, you need a jump?"

Look, the old folks in North County talk like a stereotype. He kept calling me boy. I don't know what to tell you.

I hung up with AAA immediately and was like, "Yes, thank you!"

Annnnd no jumper cables.

So I had to run into the store and spend $40 on QuickTrip jumper cables. Along with the $25 I had just paid to sign up for AAA.

But I guess I'm still doing better than the $200 jump start from the other night. I suspect my end-of-the-month budgeting is going to be... creative.

So we hook everything up and the car starts and I thank him and say the dumbest thing possible.

"You are a lifesaver! You just saved me $100!"

Binding of isaac character overviev Part 1: Isaac

Isaac, as a default character, is likely the least comlicated one, while allowing for insanely strong items.

Isaacs main playstyle is that of CHOICE, this aspect is present in both versions, and is core to best use of these characters.

Isaac starts with average stats, 1 bomb and 3 hearts, But has active item D6, which by default makes him one of strongest characters. His playstyle revolves around rerolling undesired items with D6, and searching for oppurnities for more item drops that he can roll.

Strong items:

-Birth right : all items swap between 2 items, the additional item is drawn from current room item pool

-Sharp Plug, 9 Volt, AAA battery trinket, The battery, Charge baby, Jumper cables: Allow isaac to use D6 more often

Strategy: Isaac wants to spawn as much additional items as he can for reroling like

-killing angel in angel room, to reroll key piece into angel room item -using judgement/the lovers?/mystery gift or other item spawning ways in secret room, to get powerfull items like Death certificate, glitched crown or rock bottom

Weaknesses: Isaac is one of characters that have no major weaknesses

Tainted Isaac:

Tainted Isaac keeps the premise of choosing best items, and instead of D6, he has innate ability, that makes all items cycle between 2 items instead, which allows every item to be basically rerolled once, with ability to pick whichever he wants, allowing him to choose stronger item between 2. To Balance this, he has only 8 inventory slots and 1 for active item, severly decreasing his max potential, and making 120 tears 1000 dmg runs much harder to achieve

Strong items: -Birth right: increases inventory size to 12, and doesnt take up inventory slot -Rock bottom: T Isaac is the strongest Rock bottom user in the entire game, allowing him to get highest stats Moving box: allows keeping strong, stat altering for later if he finds rock bottom, or to keep them for further rerolling throught other means like perthro -Active items contributing to transformation: Items like guppys head or Mega mushroom allow to keep progress towards transformation even when discarded

-Items that give permanent boosts: Health up, binge eater food, or dads lost coin dropping lucky coin are ways to get pernament stat ups from items we can drop later with no downsides

Bad Items: -Weak items that are mainly used to get transformation: brother bobby, sister maggie might be usefull early game, but keeping them forever just to get conjoined stransformation will just slow you down around 3rd/4th floor, when you get over 8 items, so are only advised when you can get 3 of them on single floor, or you are using strong items that contribute to transformation like Incubus and twisted pair

-Items requiring lots of focus on them, while giving little in return: Keepers sack is insanely good item, but requires isaac to really commit to buying in shop even weak items, and on even medium runs will be dropped later, loosing all stats we had to grind for

-Minor items: All items like sacks, on hit items like fanny pack etc, are usually just wasting slot, and are only advised when you dont have strong items, but find for example rune bag

Strategy: T Isaac as normal Isaac likes to spawn items in strong item pools like secret room or angel room to get the strongest items so his strategy is not much different except for 1 very powerfull strategy

The Rock bottom strategy:

As T Isaac has only 8 item slots, picking 9th item causes one of his item to be dropped, and with ctrl key isaac can choose which, allowing him to get highest stats thanks to rock bottom (rock bottom causes stats to never drop below highest reached value!), allowing isaac to pick up camo undies, kidney stone and soy milk to reach hard cap of 120 tears, then swap these three (or at least soy milk to get dmg multiplier back to default), and get strong items that decrease tears like, Eve's mascara, Ipecac, Haemolacria, Polyphemus, to get highest damage, and still keep 120 tears as long as we have rock bottom, and then change these dmg items to tear efefcts like mutant spider + brimstone + moms knife + C section etc, which resoults in insane amounts of attacks that can one shot by itself

Weaknesses: Having only 8 passive items and 1 active is extreamly limiting, and requires player to carefully choose items, and insane amount of items are completelly not worth it

Isaac in his design Perfectly encapsulates by favourite thing in lot of roguelikes - changing odds to our favour, and his choice centric design makes me think of choose your own adventure games like RPG's, which is fitting since his starting item is 6 sided dice. T Isaac perfectly executes default designt of tainted character, making characters strong point even stronger by interesting gimmick, while severly crippling him in other regards, and his gameplay is extreamly fun, allowing for couple of ways to get insane stats, and having highest highs that remaining characters

Here's a brief long update. The last one I posted here apparently happened less than a week before Shit Got Real™. It has been a w i l d ride. Things are more or less fine now! But here's what I've been doing!

TW: medical details, infertility, getting the shit kicked out of me by life

Highlight reel from July 2021:

July 3: Hosted 'Murica Day party at our house, had a lovely time. I had the bright idea to set up a slip n slide. Promptly broke tailbone using said bright idea.

July 4: Rented a trencher to run power and water line from the house to our future chicken coop site. Hit the water main to the house while trenching. (Yes we called 811 beforehand, no they didn't mark the main, they didn't mark a damn thing past the meter tbh)

July 4 thru like 11: fixing the issue in 95+ degree (F) heat with broken tailbone and restoring water service (we are Rural™ so it was all us)

July 15: I was in bed and needed to blow my nose. I decided to sit up while doing that. (TLDR: don't do that) I felt a Bad Thing at the base of my skull and had instant severe headache...that persisted for the next several months.

July 16+: ER visit after ER visit. Scan after scan. So many scans.

It took them a while to figure it out (we thought it was an unruptured aneurysm or something at first), but it turns out I had a pituitary tumor that started hemorrhaging (aka pituitary apoplexy), resulting in severe headaches, light sensitivity, intolerance to exercise/increased BP, taste and smell distortions, and pain that refused to respond to medication until, uh, about Halloween when I had surgery.

To say that I've had a lifetime's worth of doc appointments in the last year would be an understatement. I got fabulous care but I never want to see a neurosurgeon again. There are a bunch of meds I will be on forever. We will need IVF to have kids (that's coming down the pipe next year hopefully!). I had the energy level of a spent AAA battery for most of '22.

But--for now--I'm good. No headaches. I have a roughly normal amount of energy. And exertion doesn't leave me in bed the next day!

I'm still collecting specialists like Pokemon unfortunately. That part's exhausting. Medical fatigue is real y'all.
