He is good at reading emotions, especially of people he cares about, so he starts bugging Law asking whats wrong. It takes a few days of non-stop Luffy pesteri g for Law to snap that he just want's to know if Luffy loves him!?

Luffy pouts "Yeah! You're my Torao!" Not even a connection, but it makes sense to Luffy.

Law shakes his head "You cant even say it!"

"Say what, why do i gotta say anything!?" Luffy reaching out to take his hands.

Law stepping back "We're done, this is too much"

"Nuh-uh!" Luffy closes the gap between them before Law can use his power to leave "i know what you want Torao" he bumps his forehead against Law's "i think you're cool, and smart and i dont want you to leave" Luffy takes a deep breath "Everytime I say the thing, people leave, okay, so yeah i know what you want me to say, but i would rather you were safe!"

Law swallows. He understand that feeling, the feeling of being cursed and your actions cause others to leave. He lets Luffy pull him closer. "Then you do?"

"Yeah Torao, i do" Luffy hugs him tighter "And I always will, okay?"

They just mean so much to me? And they just feel soo?? Special?? And unique on a meta level as well? It's already one thing that they are a canonised mlm pairing because historically those ones tend to be more controversial because it tends to make cishet dudes (aka leagues main demographic) more uncomfortable because cant fetishise it (also yes they're not Technically "together" but idc its explicitly canon they have feelings for eachother). It's another that both are surprisingly developed and nuanced charaters (could go on for hours about how theyre both self destructive and have abandonment issues and repress their feelings in very different ways) that are morally ambiguous and have a complex and multifaceted relationship with eachother and yeah i know league lore is subject to retcons and having differet writers but idk. i think its impressive we got two nuanced developed queer male characters WITH A COMPLICATED AND DEVELOPED RELATIONSHIP WITH EACHOTHER in a game known for its bigotted player base. Another thing i fucking love about this ship is how the riot writers were like "what if we subverted some tropes and made the more flamboyant one implied pan and we made the traditionally masculine one, who highkey has toxic masculinity, gay". BUT ALSO HIS TOXIC MASCULINITY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS QUEERNESS. like yes he cant express his feelings directly to save his life but the fact he's a gay man is completely not relevant to that and he's canonically had a bunch of ex boyfriends and is canonically a monsterfucker/hj. I'm not over how they took a pretty cishet masculine thing and made queer. Like the rough outlaw who hates talking about his feelings and is out for violent revenge on those who've wronged him..... except the guy who's "wronged" him is actually his best friend who he has mutual feelings for and also he fucks men. IDK THAT MAKES ME HAPPY. im insane.

moving on to other thing i like about them is that the sheer range this ship has??? Like yes there's gut wrenching fucked up dynamic that drives you crazy as you pyschoanalyse and unpack the layers of all of THAT. "that" being the fact a man thought he got abandoned by his best friend and got tortured and isolated in prison for 10 years and during those 10 years the only thing that kept him from killing himself was the sheer rage and want for vengence (towards someone he probably had repressed romantic feelings for) AND THEN WHEN HE GOT THE CHANCE TO KILL HIM, HE COULDNT BRING HIMSELF TO DO IT 💀 (im literally never going to be normal about that) and during those 10 years the other man actually got all of their mutual friends killed in an attempt to save him and the survivors guilt fucked him up so bad its implied he failed trying to drown himself so he changed his entire name and personhood instead to isolate himself from the soul crushing guilt of it. BUT DESPITE THAT ANGST, there's a surprising amount of domesticity and comfort with this ship??? No like you'd think these two would be friends to enemies to lovers BUT NO, theyre actually friends to enemies to friends to friends who are fucking pinning for eachother like crazy. Despite the angsty dynamic these two also have the best friends who have known eachother for ages and who everyone think is dating but both are oblivious or dont believe the other feels the same BUT THEY ALSO HAVE opposites attract bickering marriage couple who constantly tease and banter with eachother. like the range is crazy

No but I feel like something that makes me emotional about this is that they tried to kill eachother and badly hurt eachother unintentionally but like, instead of being homophobic about it and making them just hate eachother forever and never reconcicle (which like those ships are amazing and valid and also thats literally another league ship/hj), the writers made them make up???? AND LIKE? HEAL? KINDA? Like no they havent worked through everything and no neither of them like talking about their feelings but they're "partners" again and they have this really domestic understanding of eachother and theyre managing and theyre bantering like they used to and theyre literally so comfortable around eachother and look, graves isnt tormented by his time in prison as much anymore and hes just a genuinely goofy criminal dumbass who robs people and cracks jokes that irriate his partner AND IDK ITS SO DOMESTIC AND FUNNY? if i were to rewrite tybw arc instead of a bunch of supervillains with overwhelming powers that can easily crush the shinigami, quincies should be tight knit survivors with limited resources who learned how to be REALLY really good at ambushing shinigami in group and picking them off one by one while being unseen

it would be soooo good if ichigo learns that “winning the war” doesnt always mean a victory, especially if they actually stick to their gun about quincies being survivors of a genocide it would be great to have shinigami fearing them thinking theyre outnumbered but we shifts to uryu’s perspective and then we see that even the quincies are struggling to survive

it would make ywach so much more of a threat too, a charismatic leader who unites his people with the promise of a better future instead of leading with fear and an iron grip

also god. to have an enemy asks ichigo “you enjoy fighting us, don’t you? you goddamn monster” pinned down by ichigo and no longer fighting simply waiting for their death. buying time for the others to escape

ichigo has never fought an enemy crying fearing death but already resigned to their death

like ichigo’s theoretically aware of the quincy genocide in canon but to have to look uryu in the face and see the weight of it? thats very different

you can also have younger quincies being gungho about fighting in the war because they can finally avenge their family, the reality of war itself hasnt settled in to them, only to be defeated and have an older quincy saving them

toshiro going “why would they send an inexperienced soldier like you to war?” sneering. not realizing the truth yet

ichigo already had similar storyline with hanataro. why cant he saved a quincy realizing theyre the same age as his sister?

battling a group of quincies and then to the rest of the shinigami seemingly out of nowhere ichigo blocks their attack and the first assumption is ofc that he got mindfucked somehow but then they hear ichigo mumbles and says “what?” and ichigo shouts louder “THIS IS JUST A KID!” as if he wasn’t the same age as the quincy he saved when he risked his life to save rukia

and the shinigami wouldn’t get it, maybe if it was komamura, but the rest of them? so in the end ichigo runs while carrying the quincy kid in one arm while using his blade with another to fend off attacks and the quincy kid grips onto ichigo demanding to know why he saved them while trying so hard to sound brave

tears swelling in their eyes waiting for this to be a trick a trap and not that their enemies have compassion too

also like. ichigo saving a quincy would make his mother’s heritage even more relevant! he brings the kid back to their people and like. imagine if yhwach tells them they can trust ichigo because he is his mother’s son

the quincy kid feeling less guilty about being saved by a shinigami bc turns out the shinigami has quincy blood in him and it’s just. that’s wrong, isnt it? his blood and his heritage shouldnt paint what he is as a person! but it’s hard to say that when he sees how the quincies are living

and then yhwach tries to radicalize ichigo because he is the strongest asset to have in this war. don't you want to know your mother's family? what happened to them? what the shinigami has done to us?

this yhwach is weak. he's dying. he's old and he's mortal his body doesn't work the way it used to. and this is the man who has managed to drove soul society into the crushing state it is in now but exactly because he's weak he knows how to fight against strong monsters who never had to worry about ants on their paths

quincies are humans! even if their supernatural ability helps prolong their lives it's not like their very organic body can keep up with their age!

to make him an effective leader who unite them. i can see him not even hiding how weak he is now to the other quincies. he uses himself as a warning sign

this is your future if we dont eradicate the shinigami i don't want this future for you

he's yamamoto's foil. he's everyone's grandfather. people are blindly loyal to him because he showers them with affection and promises them a future

instead of the ridiculously OP power that makes it weird he can be defeated at all, Almighty should have a limited usage of manipulating probability and causality, making the 0,0001% chance of victory possible, but can't do anything if the chance is 0% at all

meanwhile there's ichigo's grief about his mother and conflict about where he should stand in this war and his power not caring for anyone else but him? he should save yhwach from the shinigami's attack. yhwach should feel victory is in their grasp because of that. ichigo should be consumed by his power because both the zanpakuro and the quincy blood will no longer allow their ichigo be used as anyone's pawn

and. Ishida who tries to use his antithesis power to prolong Yhwach's life just a little bit longer temporarily enduring Yhwach's pain while he boosts the quincies morale by making an appearance

and when it's just the two of them and Haschwalth, Yhwach tells Ishida to reverse their condition again, because the young is the quincy's future, and he doesn't want to shave off Ishida's life just to prolong his

The Web - God of Fate (she/it): im pretty happy with her design atm, shes meant to be a half spider half woman thing and i love that for her. shes probably the one ive thought the most on so far given her importance to the story. i want her to wear silks and shiny silver jewelry that just sparkles like wet spiderwebs do, not sure if im gonna keep the veil?

The Dark - God of the Dark (she/he/it): probably my weakest concept at the moment. it doesnt do the dark any justice. i mean i like the cloak idea but i want them to be very tendrilly, all consuming, shadowy, but i dont know how to properly portray them :/

The Desolation - God of Destruction and Fire (they/it): i have a neat vision for them! i want them to be made of coal and ash and smoke, to be burning and glowing on the inside, and their body is decorated with melted wax to look like clothes. not quiiiiiite sure about how their melty candle dress is now? i want it to be less constrictive

The Stranger - God of the Unknown and the Whimsical (he/she/they/it): it's meant to be this. weird wirey creature hidden behind masks and a lot of fabrics, like the framework of a poseable plush doll? i like the way the masks look but im not so sure about the body.

The Vast - God of the Above (she/he/they/it): im not so sure about his design at all im gonna be real. i want them to look like the atmosphere and be covered in clouds and have mountains for feet and an ocean cape but i feel like it might be a bit?? idk??? im just not that happy with it :/

The End - God of Death and Time (they/it): ugh i love this concept sm, making death read as less scary and more divine is so fun. theyre based on a seraphim and a sand timer,

The Buried - God of the Underneath (she/he/they/it): ANOTHER OF MY FAVORITES!!!! i love them. theyre inspired by hermit crabs!! and they have silver chains holding their shell to them. they look so endearing with their lil lopsided eyes ;; <3

The Flesh - God of the Body and Meat (she/he/they/it): i have so many ideas for the flesh y'all- im very excited to do a concept sheet for them. theyre meant to have no skin, just exposed bone and muscle, large limbs, hooves, exposed heart underneath a ribcage, teeth that close around their abdomen. white bandages that wrap around like clothes. a teeth/horn crown? i dont quite know whether to go for a more animalistic look or a more human one? like- theres so many ways to go with him idek!!!

The Hunt - God of Predators and Pride (they/it): see, i like this design but i feel like its too werewolf like? yknow? thats cool!! but itreads more monster to me than God :/

The Corruption - God of Nature, Rot, and Disease (she/they/it): i love this weird bug thing. this one i was really inspired for (mostly because. corruption aligned. so obviously im gonna think about this one alot) theyre this weird bug thing, the veil is inspired by the one from the art on the wiki! i want to maybe make them a bit more gross and weird because nature is like that sometimes, a moot on tiktok suggested that i add animal bones!! and i think thats SO smart im absolutely going too

The Spiral - God of the Incomprehensible (it/its): this weirdo is so hard to pin down istg. i imagine them as this spiral thing. body is kindof liquidy, arms are spindly and long, multiple shifting faces, overall just constantly changing and moving and like!!! how am i meant to draw that??? when my brain cant even wrap my head around what its supposed to look like yknow??? bruh jrdbhgfjdldgfh- that being said i think the main problem with the design is that it just gives me too many Michael vibes!!! is it the hair? the arms? its probably both.

The Lonely - God of Solitude and the Self (they/it): i like what this one has going so far! theyve got fog hair, fog tears, their body is meant to be splotchy like turquoise marble, i vibe with it so hard. not so sure what to do with their outfit tho :/

The Slaughter - God of War (he/they/it): another one of my more stronger designs i think! centaur with weapons sticking into them, face concealed, medieval armor and antlers- it vibes

the extinction isnt drawn because i literally have no idea what they should look like aside from color palette-

I was curious on what inspired you when designing Nova. The design is so unique that it’s got me wondering!

Ough um, I didn't really have a specific inspiration? I just knew the character backstory and attitude going in and wanted to create some fun shape language and feeling that would support that! Like, thinking logically about how one might mod a robot like that for illicit fighting etc. Here is an example of my brainflow: spikey shape language means danger, lets do that > chainsaw rays are funny and fun and would work > lets add dangerous looking spikes to the knees > okay but that would destroy his clothes often > okay so they make him wear pants that are just garbage bags and stop his clothes tearing off by sealing them with ducktape > denim is a nice element for him because of his backstory and I dont see myself using it in another character > popped collar cool > wifebeater tanktop is cheap and can show off the staining > small details on his shirt could be safety pins > safety pins are used as a part of one of his mods > what other mods? > maybe he is modular, lets make him an amputee > and so on so forth That's a little incoherent but yeah, thats the general logic I used designing Nova/characters in general.
