speaking of New Thing. i have about... roughly 8250 words written of actual Stuff for this project, and i am almost done writing.............. the part that i have been considering the intro. i dont know how long gih was in terms of original word count (it would be very, very difficult to figure out because of the sheer amount of repetition and whats actually "expected" to be read vs whats kind of filler) but i think this is probably approaching its length. maybe. im not actually sure. it certainly Feels like a lot of content. anyways my point is when this is actually done (maybe) (dont get your hopes up) in another year its gonna be big folks.
#prelude#it probably will not stay this long for the intro btw#i think if i kept it this length the pacing might be fucked#im realizing that i cant actually finalize any of this until the entire thing is finished#my initial plan was to release it chapter by chapter deltarune style which i think is#...unrealistic#but that being said i wont have to scrap all or even most of it#and even if theres a big change in pacing i can reuse a lot of it#god this shit is so cool#also yeah this is kind of. soft confirming that its a website. dw about it.

My thoughts are in the tags, but I'm gonna take this chance to shill my side blog @responsive-themes-hunter! I made it to reblog Tumblr custom themes and pages (responsive only - so that it looks good as a web on mobile - as such codes were hard to find for me) and some other Tumblr resources I came across.
A very great general Tumblr resources blog (for custom themes, pages, etc) and my inspiration for making that side blog is @theme-hunter. You can find all sorts of FREE Tumblr resources there from all kinds of creators. (Excuse me for the mention)
i think we should have a custom blog theme renaissance
#THIS#what I love about tumblr#one of the main reasons why I'm still here even after all of these years and being socially active elsewhere is the custom themes feature#I understand it's not for everyone and not everyone has the time to do it but I personally love it#I initially learned webdev coding from tumblr and look where I am now (took webdev bootcamp; made my own neocities website)#so yes you can absolutely learn webdev coding from tumblr coding#I feel like tumblr is one of and the most popular last bastion of old web remnant; of extreme personalization/coding#and we need to preserve that#as the post said; I believe tumblr is trying to change that by making it hard and I hate it; but as long as it still exists#if it goes away someday that's the day I leave tumblr for real#anyway please look at my blogs custom theme on web; it's cool#tumblr#custom themes#custom pages

"Kat Abughazaleh, a 26-year-old running for Congress in Illinois’ 9th congressional district, isn’t shy about her belief that politicians need to do things differently.
“We have a representation problem,” the first line of the “About” page on her website reads.
“As in, about half of Congress are millionaires and people born before the Moon landing. And that's part of the reason we're in this mess: Our leaders are out of touch.”
A journalist, social media influencer, and political commentator that GQ called “a lefty,” with a mission to revitalize the Democratic party, Abughazaleh built a following online before she launched her campaign in March of 2025.
But now, she’s leveraging her platform — and campaign dollars — to help people in her community before ballots are even filled in.
“My congressional campaign is feeding people right now,” she starts in a recent TikTok video.
“Part of the reason I decided to run was because I saw how much money gets wasted in politics, and I thought, ‘What if we spent it differently?’”
She adds that the campaign is focused on “direct action and mutual aid,” emphasizing that she wanted her run for office to be “dual-purpose,” in which she can get her message out and help people in the process.
It’s a stark pivot from the traditional way of campaigning in the United States, which often includes pricey fundraising galas, attack ads, big billboards, and perhaps the most criticized and unpopular feature: massive donations from private businesses and interest groups.
Abughazaleh has publicly congratulated the former incumbent of this seat — 80-year-old Rep. Jan Schakowsky, who has held the title since 1999, the year Abughazaleh was born — for her “decades of service.”
Rep. Schakowsky will not seek reelection, but Abughazaleh called for others to run, hoping to participate in the “first competitive Democratic primary in the District since 1998.”
Abughazaleh has also shared that the average donation her campaign receives is $31. And according to GQ, 1,000 people signed up to volunteer for her campaign within a week of her initial announcement.
And while that volunteering does include marketing, canvassing, and getting the word out, it mostly adds up to actual on-the-ground volunteer work to help people in the local community.
“Our kick-off event, for instance, didn’t charge $500 a plate,” Abughazaleh shared in her TikTok. “People just had to bring a box of pads or tampons, which were donated to Chicago’s period collective. By the end of the night, we had gathered over 5,600 period products, which went to people who can’t afford them.”
Most recently, the campaign hosted a food drive for a local community fridge program.
“We asked folks to come out and donate food in exchange for a campaign yard or window sign,” Abughazaleh said. “And by the end of the day, we were able to fully stock the empty pantry and fill the fridge with frozen meals, produce, and eggs. That’s feeding people right now.”
“Don’t worry, we checked to make sure this is legal," she added. "And it is."
The campaign has also launched a High School Public Serve Grant program that encourages local youth to submit ideas for how to make the community better, and Abughazaleh’s campaign will support it with money, materials, volunteers, and her online platform...
“Something you’ll rarely see is concrete help in their communities during the campaign,” she said. “And frankly, to me, that just seems stupid. Not only do you get to help people — supposedly what you’re running to do — but it also shows what you’re about, instead of just providing lip service.” ...
“If every campaign adopted this model, then we wouldn’t be wasting money every single cycle. Every city, town, and village across America would be improved by their election process, and I think it would also get people more involved,” she said.
“We have local folks who have never voted in an election, but they joined our volunteer Discord server because they want to help, they feel like they have something to vote for.”
For those who might be inspired enough to run for office with this model, she says: Full steam ahead.
“Frankly, I would love it if other campaigns took our model. Use it, pretend it’s yours, I don’t care!” she wrapped up her TikTok.
“Pair with organizations in your community that have been doing the work, talk with local experts, and try to spearhead any initiatives you can to show your values and help your constituents. It’s really that easy.”

Nicola Coughlan Raised Over £70,000 for Trans Rights Following U.K. Court Ruling
The Bridgerton star called the ruling “stomach turning and disgusting.”

Allen J. Schaben/Getty Images
Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan has raised over £70,000 (roughly $96,000) for the trans charity Not A Phase following the U.K. Supreme Court’s Wednesday ruling that the legal definitions of “man” and “woman” are based on a person’s “biological sex.”.
The ruling’s long-ranging effects are still up in the air, but it is poised to have chilling, far-ranging effects on trans rights in the U.K. As legal researcher Jess O’Thompson explained on LGBTQ+ news site Queer AF, trans people in the U.K. can now be excluded from all “single-sex” spaces under any circumstances and cannot make equal pay claims.
British anti-trans advocates have been publicly celebrating the news, including Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who posted a photo of herself enjoying a cigar and drink on X with the caption “I love it when a plan comes together” after reportedly donating over £70,000 to For Women Scotland, the anti-trans organization that had brought the Supreme Court case forward. Yet other U.K. celebrities, like Coughlan, have wasted no time publicly reaffirming their support for the trans community in the ruling’s aftermath.
On April 17, Coughlan took to Instagram to announce that she was launching a fundraiser for Not A Phase, a trans charity that aims to improve the lives of trans adults across the U.K. “through awareness campaigning, social projects, and funding trans+ lead initiatives,” per the organization’s official website. The actress originally set a fundraising goal of £10,000 and pledged to match donations up to that amount.
“To see an already-marginalized community… be further attacked in law is really stomach turning and disgusting, and these people celebrating it [are] more stomach turning and disgusting,” Coughlan said in a video. “If you are a cisgender person who is an ally of a trans person, I think now is the time to just… speak up and make your voice heard, and let your trans, nonbinary friends and just the community at large know that you’re there for them and will keep fighting for them.”
Just an hour after launching the fundraiser, Coughlan shared on her Instagram Story that fans had already met her £10,000 target. In just over 24 hours, the fundraiser has raised well over £70,000 at the time of writing. She has since set a new fundraising goal of £79,699.21 (roughly $105,725).
Coughlan isn’t the only cis U.K. celebrity who’s spoken out on behalf of trans rights following the Supreme Court’s ruling. On April 17, The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood re-shared a post from LGBTQ+ activist Ellen Jones to her Instagram Story denouncing the ruling.
“Pure rage,” Wood captioned her story. “This country is a hell hole.”
Coughlan’s Bridgerton co-star, Charitha Chandran, also called out the ruling in an April 17 TikTok that has received over 2.3 million likes.
“How pathetic to target one of the most oppressed groups in our society,” Chandran said. “Honestly? Loser behaviour… You don’t care about women. You just want to target those who are already oppressed.”

It's Time To Investigate SevenArt.ai
sevenart.ai is a website that uses ai to generate images.
Except, that's not all it can do.
It can also overlay ai filters onto images to create the illusion that the algorithm created these images.
And its primary image source is Tumblr.
It scrapes through the site for recent images that are at least 10 days old and has some notes attached to it, as well as copying the tags to make the unsuspecting user think that the post was from a genuine user.
No image is safe. Art, photography, screenshots, you name it.
Initially I thought that these are bots that just repost images from their site as well as bastardizations of pictures across tumblr, until a user by the name of @nataliedecorsair discovered that these "bots" can also block users and restrict replies.
Not only that, but these bots do not procreate and multiply like most bots do. Or at least, they have.
The following are the list of bots that have been found on this very site. Brace yourself. It's gonna be a long one:

The oldest ones have been created in March, started scraping in June/July, and later additions to the family have been created in July.
So, I have come to the conclusion that these accounts might be run by a combination of bot and human. Cyborg, if you will.
But it still doesn't answer my main question:
Who is running the whole operation?
The site itself gave us zero answers to work with.
No copyright, no link to the engine where the site is being used on, except for the sign in thingy (which I did.)
I gave the site a fake email and a shitty password.
Turns out it doesn't function like most sites that ask for an email and password.
Didn't check the burner email, the password isn't fully dotted and available for the whole world to see, and, and this is the important thing...
My browser didn't detect that this was an email and password thingy.
And there was no log off feature.
This could mean two things.
Either we have a site that doesn't have a functioning email and password database, or that we have a bunch of gullible people throwing their email and password in for people to potentially steal.
I can't confirm or deny these facts, because, again, the site has little to work with.
The code? Generic as all hell.
Tried searching for more information about this site, like the server it's on, or who owned the site, or something. ANYTHING.
Multiple sites pulled me in different directions. One site said it originates in Iceland. Others say its in California or Canada.
Luckily, the server it used was the same. Its powered by Cloudflare.
Unfortunately, I have no idea what to do with any of this information.
If you have any further information about this site, let me know.
Until there is a clear answer, we need to keep doing what we are doing.
Spread the word and report about these cretins.
If they want attention, then they are gonna get the worst attention.

":')))))))) you realise that gen AI is available to everyone though right??? Queer creators can use it just as much as anyone else??? I just don't understand this post... It really feels like a cheap way to get on the 'AI Bad's bandwagon, and coming from such a thoughtful and insightful creator that's incredibly disappointing... It's okay to not comment on subjects you're not an expert in y'know...?"
Y'all know the drill, I am replying to this publicly but that is not an invitation to send any negative messages to the person I am replying to.
Anyways, let me start by saying that the original context of the post you're replying to is discussing an event where a queer org used generative AI to steal an interview with Keri Hulme. So let's start there. To be clear I don't even know if the original interviewer was queer so let's put the identities of stealer and stolen from to the side. I want to explain the harm done in this example specifically and I hope this is illustrative of what harm generative AI can (and does) do.
The original place I saw generative AI was a queer org that explicitly says they are using generative AI "for good", and as a way to bring more queer history to light. So let's take them at their word, and assume they are not out to cause harm. This is the best example of generative AI that I can imagine, so I hope that makes it clear that I am not coming at this issue from bad faith in any way.
Here is the harm they are causing:
Decontextualizing and rephrasing an interview: I am not going to pretend that I am an expert in academic best practices, but I do believe one thing, if a person is speaking on their own identity and lived experience, it is always much better to directly quote than it is to rephrase. As I read this source, I initially didn't know that it was AI, and I was already upset. An interview that is widely available on the internet with no pay wall, was poorly sourced and made more vague than it was in the initial text. By creating one degree of seperation between the original words of A WRITER (whose literal job was largely based in choosing the right words to describe experiences they had) harm is already done. It makes vague what was once clear, and removes Keri Hulme's voice from her own narrative.
The original interviewer is not paid, or given proper recognition: I get it, sometimes just copy pasting an interview doesn't feel transformative enough, but something that one would learn if they worked in the queer history field and weren't a literal robot rehashing what has already been said, is that not everything needs to be transformed. In those cases, we give credit to the person who said the original words (in this case Keri Hulme), and the interviewer who facillitated the conversation (in this case Shelley Bridgeman). This case (again a best case scenario), takes the attention and byline away from the original interviewer and gives it to an AI.
The original publisher of this story is deinsentivised from paying interviewers in the future: The original publisher of this interview has ads on their website. As a person who also has ads on their website, taking an article like this and rephrasing it for no good reason (the orginal word count was not prohibitive and the rephrasing did not make it more readable), takes money from the publisher. It's pennies, but it's also removing numbers could have been used to justify further interviews with asexual people and archiving of asexual stories. The org that stole from this publication does not interview people themselves so the money and numbers that could have gone to continue to preserve asexual stories goes to stealing them instead.
These are just the active harms that I saw in this specific case. As you said, I am not an expert in generative AI, and will not be speaking as if I am. But I will say that asking me not to speak out on active harm that is being caused in queer history spaces, is disrespectful to my many years in this field.
To illustrate this even clearer: if you were a patron, you would know I recently took down an old article. I have been rereading and editing our backlist of articles, and I found one that no longer fit my standards of sourcing. My standards had recently raised due to a video made by HBomberguy about someone in the queer history space who was stealing from other creators. I watched this video not as a work project, but because I watch most of HBomberguys videos, and this one made me think more critically about sourcing. An AI can't do that. All an AI has is what has been inputted, and it is right now impossible to input every available peice of information about ethics into an AI and get a coherent ethical basis on which it will function.
It is a distinctly human trait to absorb information and change in that way. AI can rephrase information that already exists, steal it, recontextualize it even, but it cannot create something altogether new.
Do I believe that there one day might be an ethical use for Generative AI? Maybe. Do I believe that coming into a queer history space, stealing the words of a Maori asexual author, rephrasing them, and giving the original interviewer and publication no form of compensation for their work, is accomplishing that? No.
On a more personal note: I am coming at this issue with a bias. As a queer history creator, I do not want AI in my space, because it is literally damaging to my financial prospects. It has been like pulling teeth to try and get patrons in the current state of the global economy. I don't blame anyone from that, but I feel very disrespected that I am being asked to compete with a machine now. Not only that, but I am being asked to shut up and be fine with it? No, absolutely not. I cannot and will not stay quiet as space that I have fought tooth and nail to create in mainstream discussions is taken and given to AI.
AI was not supporting me when I was sent gore to try and scare me off of discussing queer history. A person did that. AI was not there to tell me I had written too many sad stories, and I needed some happy endings to remind myself of the good in the world. A person did that. AI was not there when I was being harrassed for supporting and including asexual stories on my website. A person did that.
And after all that, I am being asked to lie down and take it when my ability to pay the people who supported me in those ways, is being threatened. Nope. Not going to happen.
An AI doesn't have to make rent. An AI doesn't understand what it feels like to have to stop holding their wife's hand in public. An AI didn't get calls from people needing comfort in reaction to the election. Pay me for my work, and get this AI nonsense out of my face.

CW: Mention of sex work, This is sfw generally but still deals with adult topics so proceed with caution.
Tf141 x reader

What you’ve realised about your favourite mystery account is that A) it's run by multiple people, and B) At least one of them is called Price.
You can’t exactly pinpoint who the rest are or how many, but you’ve managed to identify a few common themes when interacting with the account.
First, you know who Price is, and you can almost always tell it's him when he’s interacting with you. He’s the one you go to first regarding bills and fees you physically can’t pay. Within seconds, he transfers you the money and never lets you thank him for any of it. He also does his weekly check-ins to make sure everything is good. “Have you eaten?” “How’d you sleep?” “Did you take your meds last night?” That kind of thing. He’s also the one who calls you ‘Dolly’, a nickname he reserved for you.
But you're also pretty sure this other guy (Simon) lurks in the chat when you’re streaming. He won’t ask questions; he just sends you random tips throughout the stream while he watches silently. He’s not as talkative as Price or the others, and that’s kind of how you know it's him. But you’ve realised that just because he’s quiet doesn't mean he doesn't want to talk. It’s quite the opposite. He enjoys hearing you talk about your life and day and silently rewards you. When you DM him, you even get a little conversation. Nothing more than money and a “Nice”, but still conversation nonetheless.
You know one other fellow spends most of his time in the livestreams and not in your DMs (Gaz). He’s the one who engages with you in conversation the most, asking endless questions about your life. And he always comes back on the next live stream, remembering everything you said in the last. He’ll want the update on that project you were working on for school or if that job interview went as well as you both had hoped. If you weren’t Live to complete strangers, you’d probably open up to him about stuff you’ve never told anyone.
Now…One more person shows up now and again, mainly in your DMs. Part of the service for the website is that people can pay you to take a selfie and give it to them. They can be dirty or completely innocent; it all depends on what you’re advertising. There’s this one person who rather frequently asks for pictures of you, especially those with you smiling. You know it’s a different guy from the others you’ve spotted because he’s the only one who's outright flirtatious with you. Initially, you were wary. A man spending a lot of money on pictures of your face and upper body just screams trouble. But you grew to trust the account, so when you sent them the image, you were surprised by how quickly he showered you with praise.
“Fuckin’ hell, you’ll give a strong man a heart attack walking around that gorgous.”
“Makes me wonder how cute you look in person.” “I’m surprised no ones come along and snatched you up all ready. Can’t complain though. Means I get more of you to myself.”
You’d be lying if you said there wasn’t a slight blush on your cheeks after reading his responses.

This is your daily sunday reminder. Hillsong is not a biblical church nor is its doctrine bibical either. Do not sing their songs and if your church sings them for whatever reason (and I've tried to talk to my pastor about it but it think I need to talk to the worship leader), just sit down or whatever you need to do to communicate ' I will not sing this song' in a godly fashion.

So there’s this new tabletop game called Trench Crusade that I’ve been reading up on, and here’s some of my favorite lore tidbits so far:
-The whole setting is an alternate timeline where the Knights Templar found a portal to Hell in Jerusalem during the Crusades and opened it, plunging the world into a forever war with demons that’s lasted into 1914.
-The church has made multiple clones of Jesus called Meta-Christs. There’s at least seven of them, and they’re harvested for their flesh which turns you into a horrifying mutant with superpowers if you eat it.
-The initiation ritual for the human fighters of Hell, the Heretic Legion, involves traveling to the gates of Hell and coming back without being burned alive. The only way for a human to survive Hell is to be a bad person, so even the basic infantry is made up of grade-H (for Hell) certified pieces of shit.
-The Heretic Legion has a unit called an Artillery Witch. They use magic to teleport bombs from factories and then throw them at people.
-The Hashashin still exist in 1914, and they use special drugs that briefly send their bodies into the future so they can attack from multiple places at once. They also build up toxins in their blood and then use said blood to make poison knives.
-In the official timeline there’s an event in 1477 that just states “The city of Argos is taken by God and it is no more,” and there’s no elaboration on what that means.
-There’s a lot of little alternate history moments that boil down to “it didn’t happen because Europe was too busy fighting Hell.” Protestant Reformation? European Colonialism? Who has time for that when you’re being attacked by a wolf with a chainsaw for a face?
-Not a lore tidbit, but it’s a genuine miracle that the creators aren’t those weird alt-right Crusades or Roman Empire LARPers, given the game’s general aesthetic and subject matter.
So yeah, Trench Crusade is absolutely insane so far. I’m still on the fence about it as a game, but the lore is all kinds of insane and I can’t wait to see how it gets fleshed out.
Official website because proper credit is important:
#trench crusade#tabletop#wargaming#memes#the official art goes wicked hard too#fair warning though some of the demon designs are genuinely upsetting to look at#the artist did their job but at what cost?

thinking about johnny being completely smitten with an extremely reserved reader <3
johnny was head over heels from the very beginning. he couldn’t pinpoint when it had happened, but maybe it was when you first joined the force. at the initial greeting, he’d struck you with one of his bright smiles, only for a blank canvas to stare in return.
you hadn’t said a word, not a peep, and while others would be turned off by such reclusiveness, he was in awe.
an enigma, you were, and johnny was someone who loved a good puzzle.
you were cold and distant, but not in the way that was cruel and unnerving. you didn’t throw out snarky comments, you didn’t show a single bit of rudeness when somebody’s ticked you off. you weren’t hard headed, nor did you pitch a fight. you were a calm sea with peaceful waves lapping at the shore. a light rain on a dry day, one where in ancient times would’ve been a blessing from the gods. as cold as snow, but the kind that layered the ground in a fresh sheet of white right after a blizzard, painting the earth with powdered beauty.
if anything, you weren’t cold at all. you were just so incredibly awkward that johnny couldn’t help but be smitten by it.
you were that type of awkward where social cues were nearly impossible for you to comprehend. jokes didn’t land quite right whenever somebody made them, and you’d give a blank look to whomever fell victim, added on with a dumb “what?” because you didn’t understand it.
johnny’s been an unfortunate victim on many occasions. he’s always the type to nudge you on the shoulder with a crooked grin as he spilled out whatever joke ghost had told him over comms, only to be met with your complete and utter confusion.
that never stopped him, though. if anything, it made him much more determined to search up more jokes on the screen of a burner phone, reading through every single one and noting them in the back of his mind.
you were also as stone-faced as could be. some theorized you were a robot, others thought you were a demon in disguse. an experiment, placed into 141 as a trial run.
really, expressing yourself just wasn’t your thing.
you felt emotions, sure. plenty of them. you could find the humor in the occasional bar night with the force, amused at the linger of carefree conversation that carried between the men. you just didn’t show it.
it wasn’t something you realized until johnny had made the point of asking you if you ever smiled. thinking back on it, you recalled never directly doing so. you’d do it in your head, but when it came down to it, no, no you didn’t.
johnny was determined when keeping a goal in mind, and found himself ruthlessly running towards that goal of seeing you smile. he was enamored in the thought of seeing the slant of your lips when they curved upwards, in seeing your eyes crinkle and glimmer with delight, and he’d go through every single joke website in order to make it happen.
it took him an approximate year of you being in the force to get it to work.
it was lame, really. hardly one of his best jokes, he’d drunkenly slurred out, “what rank are all cats in the army? corpurrral,” with a tongue roll effect to go with it.
you had burst into laughter, filling the bar air with ringing church bells that he swore made the drunken state of his mind believe he was truly on his way to heaven. the gates had opened, inviting him in. he was levitating, slowly floating his way to the clouds.
your smile was like a breath of air — refreshing. it filled his lungs with such purity that all the cigarettes he’d smoked over the years of being in the force seemingly melted the thick layer of tar away, leaving him clean and refurbished.
it was like a drug, and johnny found himself seeking more out to get another taste, even if it took him another year to do so.
this is lowkey self insert bc this is my personality offline and i think other people who are so painfully awkward with socializing are cute and deserve love. wrote this with no sleep and a dream, silly ramble before i go to bed

"In an unprecedented step to preserve and maintain the most carbon-rich elements of U.S. forests in an era of climate change, President Joe Biden’s administration last week proposed to end commercially driven logging of old-growth trees in National Forests.
Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, who oversees the U.S. Forest Service, issued a Notice of Intent to amend the land management plans of all 128 National Forests to prioritize old-growth conservation and recognize the oldest trees’ unique role in carbon storage.
It would be the first nationwide amendment to forest plans in the 118-year history of the Forest Service, where local rangers typically have the final word on how to balance forests’ role in watershed, wildlife and recreation with the agency’s mandate to maintain a “sustained yield” of timber.
“Old-growth forests are a vital part of our ecosystems and a special cultural resource,” Vilsack said in a statement accompanying the notice. “This clear direction will help our old-growth forests thrive across our shared landscape.”
But initial responses from both environmentalists and the logging industry suggest that the plan does not resolve the conflict between the Forest Service’s traditional role of administering the “products and services” of public lands—especially timber—and the challenges the agency now faces due to climate change. National Forests hold most of the nation’s mature and old-growth trees, and therefore, its greatest stores of forest carbon, but that resource is under growing pressure from wildfire, insects, disease and other impacts of warming.
Views could not be more polarized on how the National Forests should be managed in light of the growing risks.
National and local environmental advocates have been urging the Biden administration to adopt a new policy emphasizing preservation in National Forests, treating them as a strategic reserve of carbon. Although they praised the old-growth proposal as an “historic” step, they want to see protection extended to “mature” forests, those dominated by trees roughly 80 to 150 years old, which are a far larger portion of the National Forests. As old-growth trees are lost, which can happen rapidly due to megafires and other assaults, they argue that the Forest Service should be ensuring there are fully developed trees on the landscape to take their place...
The Biden administration’s new proposal seeks to take a middle ground, establishing protection for the oldest trees under its stewardship while allowing exceptions to reduce fuel hazards, protect public health and safety and other purposes. And the Forest Service is seeking public comment through Feb. 2 (Note: That's the official page for the proposed rule, but for some reason you can only submit comments through the forest service website - so do that here!) on the proposal as well as other steps needed to manage its lands to retain mature and old-growth forests over time, particularly in light of climate change.
If the Forest Service were to put in place nationwide protections for both mature and old-growth forests, it would close off most of the National Forests to logging. In an inventory concluded earlier this year in response to a Biden executive order, the Forest Service found that 24.7 million acres, or 17 percent, of its 144.3 million acres of forest are old-growth, while 68.1 million acres, or 47 percent, are mature."
-via Inside Climate News, December 20, 2023
-
Note: This proposed rule is current up for public comment! If you're in the US, you can go here to file an official comment telling the Biden administration how much you support this proposal - and that you think it should be extended to mature forests!
Official public comments really DO matter. You can leave a comment on this proposal here until February 2nd.

⊱ ────── {⋅. ♪ .⋅} ────── ⊰
The rain poured down heavily, soaking the vibrant streets of Seoul as you weaved through the bustling crowd. After much contemplation and gathering the courage, you were finally on your way to a tattoo studio, hoping to arrive before it closed.
After conducting thorough research and exploring various websites and Instagram pages, you finally found the perfect tattoo studio. Initially, you felt uncertain because the studio only employed male tattoo artists and had a rather hardcore vibe.
That changed once you saw that they welcomed newcomers to tattoos. You followed your map under your umbrella, murmuring quiet 'excuse me's' as you pushed through the crowd.
"Two minutes away," you said to yourself.
As you rounded the last corner, you spotted the studio's sign in the distance. It gleamed in bright neon red, with the letters "BTS" prominently illuminated. Beneath that, the words "Body Tattoo Studio" were displayed. For some reason, you found the name of the place particularly appealing.
You sprinted down the street, closing your umbrella despite the relentless rain. The downpour soaked through to your skin, making you shiver from the sudden cold. When you arrived, you stopped, placing your hand on the wall and heaving to catch your breath.
The sound of a door opening caught your attention, and you looked up. A head was poking out from behind the glass doors of the studio, looking everywhere until it's eyes landed on you.
"Oh! Hello there," the man chirped cheerfully. "Are you alright? You look rather wet."
"I'm-" you gasped, "-I'm fine. Just wanted-" another pause. "Wanted to get here before you closed," you replied, struggling to get the last part of your sentence out.
"Well, come on in! I'll make you something to drink. Do you want coffee? Tea? Perhaps a hot chocolate?"
The door to the studio swung wide open, and you entered without hesitation. You grabbed your arms in a poor attempt to try and warm yourself up.
"Tea, please, if you wouldn't mind," you spoke, taking in your surroundings.
The waiting area was filled with tattoo designs showcasing various styles. You were in awe, wondering how to choose one among so many.
"See one you like?"
The sudden voice made you jump, making you look around for the owner. Your eyes fell upon another man. He was slightly taller than the one who let you in, leaning against the counter, arms folded. His hair was dark, contrasting elegantly with his beauty
"I don't know. There are so many to choose from," you responded honestly. "But they are beautiful," you quickly added.
The man hummed, moving behind the counter and sitting in a computer chair. He didn't have many tattoos, but you took note of the one that ran up his forearm. It looked as though it was a barcode, but with large numbers underneath. 21001031.
At that moment, the man from before returned, holding a cardboard cup of tea. He handed it to you with a smile.
"Thank you," you mumbled, blowing on the hot liquid to cool it quicker. "I'm sorry. I was just speaking with your colleague, and I haven't actually picked one out," you admitted, suddenly growing embarrassed at your lack of preparation.
"That's fine," the man replied. He suddenly gasped. "Please forgive me, I forgot to introduce myself! My name is Mirage."
The man held out his hand, which you gently took with your free one. You smiled, glancing over to the other man who was looking between the two of you.
"It's nice to meet you, Mirage," you smiled. "That's a really unique name." The man laughed.
"Oh no. They're just our artist names. My actual name is Tae-"
The man was cut off by a sudden cough. You both looked in the direction of the man in the chair, who was staring Mirage down. Nervously, he chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck with his hand.
"Sorry about him. We keep our names classified. We've had a few customers in the past who have caused us a bit of trouble."
Your eyes widened at his words. What did he mean by trouble? As if Mirage sensed your worry, he suddenly stuttered and waved his hands in front of him frantically.
"I just mean with stalking! We've had a few customers here in the past who have taken a liking to some of our artists. So for our own safety, we started to use fake names."
"Ah," you responded. "Well, I'm Y/n."
There was a silence in the air, tense. You looked at the two men, wondering if you had said anything offensive. Mirage quickly smiled again, putting his hands on his hips.
"Well, I have to head through to the back! I have a client soon. If you need any help, speak to Doc. He'll help you with anything you need."
With that, Mirage scurried away into the back, leaving you alone with the man you now knew as 'Doc.'
"Is there a particular design you have in mind?" he suddenly asked. "Like, are you a fan of flowers, or animals-"
"Animals," you replied quickly. "I like animals."
"It shouldn't be too hard to find one you like, then. We have loads to choose from," Doc explained, getting up from his chair and standing next to you. "Any particular animal?"
You stood for a moment, never having thought about what animals you actually liked. You were never usually picky; you liked them all.
"I suppose, maybe a snake? I quite like the idea of having a cunning animal," you answered.
Doc thought for a moment, processing what you had just said. He then moved back behind the counter and hauled out a large black binder from underneath the tabletop, thumping it down onto the surface.
"When it comes to a cunning animal, foxes are typically what people tend to think of. Snakes are a good option too for that as well, though, so your idea wasn't entirely wrong."
'Wrong?' you thought, scowling slightly at the man's words.
"Sorry, I just meant that when it comes to cunning animals, a snake most likely wouldn't be a first pick," Doc corrected, noticing your frown.
You shrugged, both of you now looking through the binder together at the various animal tattoos. You slammed your hand down onto the page, startling Doc.
"This one," you breathed.
It was a snake, its body wrapping around itself continuously as if it were infinite. The intricate details of the scales mesmerised you, as if the snake were real.
"You sure? This is a pretty big piece, and with it being your first tattoo-"
"How do you know it's my first tattoo?" you asked suddenly, eyeing him suspiciously.
"I can just tell. You have that vibe about you. And no offence, you look clueless," Doc chuckled at your expression.
You huffed.
"Alright, so it's my first tattoo. But I have a high pain tolerance, I know I can handle it."
"Alright," Doc sighed, leaning over to the desk opposite you and grabbing a clipboard. "I'm going to need your details. You are over eighteen, right?"
"Yeah. I'm twenty-three."
"Good. If you just fill this out, I'll get Wraith to come and have a chat with you."
Doc walked away, leaving you to fill out the paperwork in silence. You moved, sitting down at one of the seats against the side wall, throwing your leg over the other.
You filled out the paperwork quickly, letting the clipboard sit in your lap as your leg bounced, your nerves returning now that you were alone. Deciding that sitting was making you more anxious than you needed to be, you stood up, wandering around the room looking at all the designs.
They truly were beautiful, making a mental note of the artist's names in the bottom right corner of each design. You seemed to like their styles most.
You suddenly felt a presence behind you, startling you. You spun on the spot, bouncing back and holding up your fists, ready to defend yourself. The man in front of you eyed you, confused. Seeing that he posed no threat to you, you sighed, letting your hands drop to your sides.
"Sorry, you startled me," you breathed.
"That's quite alright," he replied.
His voice was smooth, alluring. He looked at you with such intensity that it sent shivers down your spine. The man tilted his head, a smile gracing his features as he looked at you.
"You fight?" he asks.
"What?"
"Do you fight? The defensive position you took when you moved away makes it seem like you fight," the man explained.
"Ah," you said. "Yeah, I took taekwondo when I was younger."
"Oh!~" the man mused. "Black belt?"
You nodded, making the man's smile widen. He stepped closer to you, taking your hand in his. You could barely think, your mind growing hazy at his touch. It was like you were being wrapped in a blanket of silk, and you didn't want to leave.
"A pretty woman like you shouldn't be fighting," he mused, brushing his thumb over your knuckles. "Do you not have someone to protect you?"
You were in a daze, chest heaving as desire filled you. The smile on the man's face had turned into a smirk, watching as you fell under what you could only describe as his spell.
In that moment, you bit your lip hard. The pain pulled you out of the drowsiness. You pulled your hand away, taking the man aback.
"I'm afraid I don't need anyone to protect me. I don't want to put that burden on anyone else," you explained, smiling at him.
You had no idea what had just happened, whether it was a moment of confusion or you spaced out, you didn't know. Only now realising just how hard you bit your lip, you winced. An unfamiliar metallic taste sat in your mouth, a clear sign you were bleeding. Gently, you pressed your fingers to your lips.
"Shit," you cursed. "Do you have a tissue?"
The man walked behind the counter in silence, pulling out a packet of wipes and handing one to you. Quickly thanking him, you pressed it against your lip, the chemicals stinging your small wound.
Doc had returned, the man you assumed to be Wraith following close behind him. The two men looked between you and the man in front of you, analysing the situation.
"Siren, what did you do to her?" Doc scolded, moving towards the shorter man and smacking him on the back of the head.
"Ow! I didn't do anything," Siren pouted, rubbing the back of his head.
"Well, you did something. She wasn't bleeding when I left her."
You watched as the two men squabbled, stifling a giggle. Your gaze drifted to Wraith, and your breath hitched as you took in his appearance. He wore a tight, plain black t-shirt that hugged his body perfectly. Black ink adorned his neck and extended down to the sleeve of his right arm. His dark hair matched his eyes, creating an effect as if you were staring into a black hole—dangerous yet utterly mesmerising. Pulling yourself out of yet another trance, you turned your attention back to Siren and Doc.
"I bit my lip, is all," you explained. "I was feeling- well, I don't actually know what I was feeling. Drowsy maybe? I know that sudden pain helps keep you alert, so I bit my lip. Maybe a bit harder than I intended."
Doc looked at Siren for a moment, then back at you, unsure of what to make of what you said. Instead, he chose to ignore it, placing his arm around your shoulder and escorting you over to Wraith.
"What have I told you about smoking inside the studio?" Doc sighed, shaking his head.
Wraith held a cigarette between his lips, hunting for his lighter in his jeans pockets. You eyed him as he moved, unable to stop watching the way his muscles flexed ever so slightly. Doc muttered under his breath, walking away.
"Fuck, must have left it back in the room," Wraith cursed.
Finally, his attention turned to you. He looked you up and down, an eyebrow raised. He removed the cigarette from his mouth, letting his tongue dart across his upper lip.
"So you want a snake?"
"I uh, yes," you fumbled, feeling rather foolish.
You couldn't help but bite your lower lip, drawing more blood from your bite wound. You silently cursed yourself for forgetting and quickly wiped away the blood with the wipe Siren gave you.
"Good. Come with me."
You followed behind him to one of the back rooms in the studio. It was a small room, with only a chair and a table in the centre of the room. Wraith moved to sit down in the chair, making a grab for the lighter.
"Doc showed me the snake design you liked. You chose the best one."
"Oh? I did?" you spoke, smiling.
"Of course. I drew it," Wraith replied with a smug look.
Oh, he's one of those guys.
"I see. Well, I really like your drawing style," you complimented, still standing at the door.
Wraith lit his cigarette and leaned back in his chair. He turned his head to look at you, silently urging you to come closer. You obeyed and moved next to him.
"Sit on the table and I can get you set up."
"Alright," you answered, moving to sit down. "Would you happen to know any good places to get-"
You were silenced when Wraith stood in front of you suddenly, gripping you by the hair, pulling your head back. You had no time to let out a yell, and he pulled his tattoo gun so it was millimetres away from your eye. You stopped breathing, scared the slightest movement would result in having a needle in your eye.
"You are really brave coming here alone, you know," Wraith whispered, his breath fanning against your face.
Wraith pulled the needle away from your eye, pulling you up by your hair to make you stand. You let out a strangled yelp, but it was quickly silenced by a hand covering your mouth.
"I could hardly believe it when Doc came through and said you had walked in. And just after we started planning your capture. How convenient indeed."
You were confused, tears pricking your eyes, at the immense pain in your scalp was in. Wraith leaned down to your level, letting his lips brush over your ear.
"Don't worry, love, we won't kill you. You're simply too valuable to us dead."
Your eyes widened at his words. He grinned, letting go of your hair and stepping back. Wraith's head was tilted, arms open slightly as if inviting you to try to escape.
You quickly moved, suddenly grabbing the chair and holding it in front of you to create a barricade between you. he chuckled. You held the arms of the chair tightly, staring at him with fear and anger.
"And what's this going to do, hm? Even if you get past me, which I doubt you will, six more of us are waiting for you outside this room," Wraith grinned, watching you closely.
You tried not to look away from him to find something to defend yourself with. He would be able to read your every move otherwise. He moved slightly to lean against the wall, waiting for you to react.
"Give it your best shot, love. I do enjoy a challenge."
Everything happened so fast before either of you realised what was happening. You had pretended to push the chair to the left, instead bringing it back and putting your foot on it. You kicked it towards Wraith with such force that the back hit him in the stomach, winding him momentarily.
You jumped over the tattoo bench and flipped it onto its side, moving to hide behind it. This gave you time to look around the room for something to grab. You noticed a towel lying on the floor. You crawled over to it, grabbed it, and stood back up.
Enraged, Wraith grabbed the chair and threw it out of his way, crashing against the wall and breaking the mirror next to it. You flinched at his strength. He moved, quicker than you had ever seen anyone move, and attempted to jab your side.
Using the towel, you wrapped it underneath his wrist and pushed upwards, the blow barely missing you. With his stance now broken, it created an opening for you to land a powerful kick into his side. He stumbled back, watching as you moved into a defensive stance.
"Taekwondo," he breathed out a laugh. "I hate to break it to you, love, but you're not beating me. No one ever has, or ever will."
"Looks like you're doing a pretty shit job then," you taunted.
His eyes burned with rage and excitement at your words. His speed was unlike any other, moving in so close and quickly that you couldn't react this time. Wraith grabbed your wrists and pinned you down to the ground.
Struggling against his iron-like grip, you wriggled underneath him. He chuckled, leaning down so his lips barely grazed your ear. He wasn't out of breath, surprising you when he spoke smoothly.
"Goodnight, love."
He pinned your hands above your head, holding them down with one hand as he moved the other to the back of your neck. Running his hand up your back, you shivered, feeling his fingers gently grip your neck. He pressed hard against your skin, making your body go limp.
to be continued...

"Starting this month [June 2024], thousands of young people will begin doing climate-related work around the West as part of a new service-based federal jobs program, the American Climate Corps, or ACC. The jobs they do will vary, from wildland firefighters and “lawn busters” to urban farm fellows and traditional ecological knowledge stewards. Some will work on food security or energy conservation in cities, while others will tackle invasive species and stream restoration on public land.
The Climate Corps was modeled on Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Civilian Conservation Corps, with the goal of eventually creating tens of thousands of jobs while simultaneously addressing the impacts of climate change.
Applications were released on Earth Day, and Maggie Thomas, President Joe Biden’s special assistant on climate, told High Country News that the program’s website has already had hundreds of thousands of views. Since its launch, nearly 250 jobs across the West have been posted, accounting for more than half of all the listed ACC positions.
“Obviously, the West is facing tremendous impacts of climate change,” Thomas said. “It’s changing faster than many other parts of the country. If you look at wildfire, if you look at extreme heat, there are so many impacts. I think that there’s a huge role for the American Climate Corps to be tackling those crises.”
Most of the current positions are staffed through state or nonprofit entities, such as the Montana Conservation Corps or Great Basin Institute, many of which work in partnership with federal agencies that manage public lands across the West. In New Mexico, for example, members of Conservation Legacy’s Ecological Monitoring Crew will help the Bureau of Land Management collect soil and vegetation data. In Oregon, young people will join the U.S. Department of Agriculture, working in firefighting, fuel reduction and timber management in national forests.
New jobs are being added regularly. Deadlines for summer positions have largely passed, but new postings for hundreds more positions are due later this year or on a rolling basis, such as the Working Lands Program, which is focused on “climate-smart agriculture.” ...
On the ACC website, applicants can sort jobs by state, work environment and focus area, such as “Indigenous knowledge reclamation” or “food waste reduction.” Job descriptions include an hourly pay equivalent — some corps jobs pay weekly or term-based stipends instead of an hourly wage — and benefits. The site is fairly user-friendly, in part owing to suggestions made by the young people who participated in the ACC listening sessions earlier this year...
The sessions helped determine other priorities as well, Thomas said, including creating good-paying jobs that could lead to long-term careers, as well as alignment with the president’s Justice40 initiative, which mandates that at least 40% of federal climate funds must go to marginalized communities that are disproportionately impacted by climate change and pollution.
High Country News found that 30% of jobs listed across the West have explicit justice and equity language, from affordable housing in low-income communities to Indigenous knowledge and cultural reclamation for Native youth...
While the administration aims for all positions to pay at least $15 an hour, the lowest-paid position in the West is currently listed at $11 an hour. Benefits also vary widely, though most include an education benefit, and, in some cases, health care, child care and housing.
All corps members will have access to pre-apprenticeship curriculum through the North America’s Building Trades Union. Matthew Mayers, director of the Green Workers Alliance, called this an important step for young people who want to pursue union jobs in renewable energy. Some members will also be eligible for the federal pathways program, which was recently expanded to increase opportunities for permanent positions in the federal government...
“To think that there will be young people in every community across the country working on climate solutions and really being equipped with the tools they need to succeed in the workforce of the future,” Thomas said, “to me, that is going to be an incredible thing to see.”"
