Sure, we can say he doesn't trust Odium and believes the visions to be from him, but he doesn't even try to comfort or encourage Renarin, who is out there fighting alongside him in this war. The obly time he complements Renarin, btw, is in his own thpughts, when he heala Adolin in Oathbringer finale.

He even scoffs at Adolin was wearing a differently designed uniform, which he complements years later in RoW, or adressing his as Father instead of Commander.

He isn't fatherly rowards other characters as well. He shared his grief with Jasnah, when she reads him the Way of Kings, but he doesn't offer her condolences or support or even a shoulder to cry on, following Gavilar's funeral. He can see Kaladin is way over his head and still ignores it and doesn't inquire how to sort things out, if he can reliece some of the duties off of him, because he's the Stormblessed, and when Kaladin breaks, he dissmissed him immidiatly. No care, no offer to listen to prevent the issues in the future. Even when he sees Kal clinging to the side of the tower as Dalinar passes via a Higstorm vission, and Kaladin is litteraly dying before his eyes, he extorts him for information, and then thinks "well, he's got most of the situation under control".

Even with baby Gavinor, he practices swordfighting with him, but when the child is triggred by something, due to his horrible trauma and wants to go to bed to be alone with his thoughs, Dalinar looks at him in bed, clearly knowing the kid needs compation and support, and offeres him nothing. Just goes.

He isn't fatherly. He's a strong leader, and thinks like a millitary man, which makes sense, but he's very much not a father figure

As part of my practicum experience this semester, I was tasked with leading my team’s effort in addressing hypertension as a health concern among the Farmworker population. Hypertension is the leading chronic health concern among seasonal and migrant workers (SAMW’s) in North Carolina. The North Carolina Farmworker Project leaned on our team to aid them in finding new ways of reaching the community members to educate and empower them so that they can manage their own health somewhat independent of the Project. Our team took a formalized approach to solving this problem. First, we identified the problem- hypertension rates among the SAMW population and the new obstacles COVID-19 had placed in our way. Once we had framed the problem and the exacerbating conditions, we wanted to address what it was that might’ve been contributing to these high rates of hypertension among the workers. We considered factors like diet, stress (both physical and emotional), physical exertion, access, culture, genetics and social norms. Although this list may not be exhaustive of all factors contributing to these abnormal rates, these are the factors we chose to focus our efforts on.

Diet is a crucial part of health and well-being and it has been said, “let thy food be thy medicine, and thy medicine be thy food.” Meaning, food plays a crucial role in managing one’s health and well-being. A poor diet can lead to chronic health issues or exacerbate conditions that a person may already be suffering from or be pre-disposed genetically to experience throughout their life. Hispanic diets favor use of grains like corn and rice which can be starchy and metabolic detrimental in large amounts. Meat, salt and alcohol are commonplace in Hispanic diets; all of which can contribute to high blood pressure. Migrant and seasonal workers often engage in stressful work that has a toll on not only their physical health, but also their mental and emotional well-being. Unfortunately, a long-standing stigma has been attached by some in this country to the status of being a migrant. We live in a society where rhetoric exists that aims to oppress such peoples and prevent their opportunities here in America. The existence of such conditions can take an emotional toll on someone. Feeling as though you are less than welcomed or your presence is strictly utilitarian and perhaps nothing more can be detrimental to one’s social, emotional, and mental well-being. Stress leads to elevated heart rates, vasoconstriction (your body’s response to stressful conditions) and elevated levels of cortisol production which can be correlated with negative health outcomes as well.

Oftentimes, farmworkers work in conditions that are harsh and less than favorable. Their access to personal protective equipment, hydration and protection from the harsh conditions is limited. Their work is often production-based, meaning that the longer these individuals work without taking time to care for their own health and well-being, the more money they make. This is an easy decision sometimes to make when one of your main reasons for accepting a work visa here in the United States is to create a higher level of income which you then save or send back to family in your native country. This also plays into the social norms of some Hispanic cultures, specifically across male populations. At times the idea of “machismo” is evident among the male population of farmworkers. This concept is similar to the idea of hardiness of health as it relates to rural American populations. Some farmworkers hail from countries with less developed healthcare systems or severely restricted access to quality healthcare so these individuals assume the responsibility of caring for themselves, independent of formalized healthcare. It is also well understood that family history, or as it may also be known, genetics, play a crucial role in one’s susceptibility to disease. Understanding that hypertension rates are already high among farmworkers, it’s likely therefore that the families of these individuals will also have higher rates of hypertension.

Once we’d established an understanding of those factors contributing to hypertension rates among MASW’s, we developed a strategy by which we could mitigate such a reality. We realized that our efforts had to be achieved with limited face-to-face interaction and needed to achieve the same end state, just remotely. We decided to create an educational video demonstrating in Spanish how to acquire a blood pressure, how to interpret the results, and how to care and clean the equipment before and after use. Before we were to distribute the video, we wanted to establish a baseline knowledge of what the workers understood about hypertension and blood pressure monitoring. Once we had this information, it would allow us to determine how successful or unsuccessful our efforts were by re-assessing their knowledge after distributing the materials. As the semester progressed, COVID-19 restrictions had eased and the ability for us to engage the community more personally increased. Because of this, we were able to demonstrate in real-time, blood pressure monitoring and acquisition. We decide still to disseminate the materials as we felt it would only contribute to the effectiveness of our efforts. Once we’d distributed the material, we allowed synthesis of the information they’d just received and allowed time to pass to see if our efforts had a true lasting effect. We wanted to re-distribute the assessment and gather a second set of data, which we would use to compare to our baseline data. This information for us, would determine the true effectiveness of our work. By the end, we’d learned several important points for potential improvement in any future efforts. These lessons included: learning or being familiar with more conversational Spanish, having more time and less restrictions, involving a broader variety of migrant community members, increase our availability to the workers, and more opportunities to establish trust within the community. All-in-all, the experience was phenomenally educational and opportunity for growth not only for the community members, but our team as a whole.

I really have no clue about your thoughts, your life, your friends.. i have known you for 4 months and i am falling in love with you, more and more every day but i honestly know only a few things about you.
