SUMMARY: Clara is at the emergency command centre.
MENTIONS: Rangers, Jamie Brennan, Phoenix Romero-Sawyer, Jay Romero-Sawyer
Tumblr media
Clara let out an exasperated sigh as she conversed with—slash yelled at—Rusty and Duck over the radio. She had made her way to the emergency command centre after the earthquake, and once it had been made clear that both the Head Ranger and the Game Warden would be out of commission, she had kicked into high gear making sure that she was staying on top of everything. And at least trying to get them to rest.
"For the last time, I've got it covered," she said with a tone that brokered no argument. "You can help with search and rescue but don't overexert yourselves. Yes, I say this knowing you will both ignore me, but I still want it on the record that I tried."
The radio crackled to life in response, with Rusty reminding her that she was in charge of everyone except him, and Duck reminding her that they were technically in different departments altogether, resulting in another beleagured sigh. After issuing a reluctant correction, she wrapped up the conversation and clipped her radio back to her belt.
Okay. She was in charge.
After taking a moment to let that reality sink in, Clara looked down at the map of Huntsville she had laid out on a table, quadrants for search and rescue hastily drawn out with various emergency personnel and rangers assigned to them. She had marked out all triage centres, and was keeping running notes for each of them listing medical professionals on site, number of patients with serious injuries, and a likely tally of people who would need to stay the night at either the clinic or the fire station.
Next to the map was a pile of lists that she was doing her best to keep updated as the day progressed—a list of people who have been confirmed fine, a list of people who have been confirmed injured, a list of people who were still missing, among others.
Pulling the list of rangers out of the pile, she looked down at it while fiddling with her engagement ring, spinning it around her finger and trying her best not to think about Jamie out there without her—or any of her loved ones out there without her. Running a hand through her hair, she took a deep breath before methodically going down the list.
NORTH TOWER
CLARA JONES - ACCOUNTED FOR RUBEN HOBBES - ACCOUNTED FOR CAIN BARLOWE - MISSING
SOUTH TOWER
DJ CRUZ-DUTTON - MISSING ACCOUNTED FOR, INJURED VALERIA MORENO - MISSING ACCOUNTED FOR, INJURED RICARDO REIDER - MISSING
Her radio crackled to life again. "Hey, it’s Val, and I have DJ here. We're at the fire station. Injured but not badly. Has Cain radioed in?"
"Okay, stay put and let me know if any rangers show up there, we're still missing a few," Clara responded, amending her notes to state that the pair were accounted for but injured, before frowning to herself. She could hear the concern and fear in the younger woman's voice, and even though she was also worried about Cain, she knew that she had to be reassuring. "And he hasn't, but I'm sure they will soon."
"Oh, okay. Let me know if they do. Can someone keep an eye out for Hunter too? Uh… Bleach blonde hair, probably walking around with a phone."
"Will do," the Acting Head Ranger replied before amending her notes and moving on.
WEST TOWER
MIA VAZQUEZ - ACCOUNTED FOR MARCUS ZHAO - ACCOUNTED FOR JAMES GOLDSTEIN - MISSING ACCOUNTED FOR, INJURED
Mia had managed to radio in earlier, reporting that her back and arms were cut up from shielding her kid and their dog from debris, but that she was otherwise alright. Marcus was uninjured, working search and rescue, and had been one of the rangers to locate Rusty and Reggie and then help them out of the haunted house.
Finally, when her radio sounded again, it was Elijah's voice coming through, reporting that he had found James and was trying to get him out of the bank. "Understood, I'll check in with the fire trucks and get one of them over to you ASAP," Clara replied, before once more amending her notes and moving on to the last section.
EAST TOWER
JAHI KARIM - ACCOUNTED FOR ELIJAH ATKINS - ACCOUNTED FOR EMRYS ROSSER - MISSING
Elijah and Jahi had both radioed in earlier, the latter joining Marcus to help Rusty and Reggie, but she hadn't heard from Emrys yet. She took a deep breath before noting the time and bringing the radio to her lips. "Attention rangers, keep an eye out for Barlowe, Reider, and Rosser," she barked into it. "They have yet to check in."
Tumblr media
"What can I get for ya?"
Clara looked at her foster dad from behind the bar. The bar was busy, the dancehall was in full swing, and she had been serving drinks practically non-stop since she had clocked in for her shift. John had showed up on his way to work, and she knew damn well that he didn't want a drink—but if he was going to insist on checking in on her, she was going to insist on doing her job. Even if her job was just serving drinks at a bar.
Before he could respond, a loud crash was heard from the other side of the bar and Clara immediately jumped into action. Directing the other bartenders, she directed one to continue manning the bar, one to remake the drink that had spilled, and then disappeared herself to grab the broomstick and clean up the broken glass. When she returned, her dad was nursing a glass of water and giving her a pointed look.
"What?" she asked.
"You handled that well," John replied calmly before having a sip of water. "You were decisive, you gave clear and concise directions, and you took responsibility for the main job of cleaning up—even if it wasn't your mess to begin with. It's impressive."
"It's just a bar, dad," Clara said with a slight roll of her eyes. "I'm not exactly making life or death decisions here. I'm serving cocktails and cleaning up broken glass."
"Yeah, and the same skills are required in my job," he responded with a shrug. "Quick decision-making, a sense of duty, a willingness to be accountable. I'm not saying you should be a ranger, but we both know you're meant for greater things."
"Who says I want greater things?"
He let out a laugh before setting the glass down and getting ready to leave for his shift. "Clara," he said with a small shake of his head. "Everything about you screams it."
Tumblr media
Once more, her radio crackled and she heard Val's voice coming through.
"Hey, Cain is here at the fire station. Some debris hit his eye but he should be fine."
After a brief exchange regarding the status at the fire station, Clara thanked her for reporting in before setting her radio down on the table and going back to amending her various lists. Her work was interrupted when an earlier entry caught her eye, and without thinking about it, she paused to brush her fingers over the names.
PHOENIX ROMERO-SAWYER - ACCOUNTED FOR JAY ROMERO-SAWYER - ACCOUNTED FOR, INJURED
The word injured felt like a knife to her gut, and for a few seconds Clara struggled to breathe as she stared at it, before wiping a tear from her face and going back to work.
Hours passed, and never once did she stop working. It was getting closer to dusk and she was still on the radio, talking to the cops, talking to the medical staff, and coordinating with volunteers still working search and rescue. Looking up at the setting sun, she knew that she would have to start diverting ranger attention toward securing and eventually leading people to buildings that would be safe for the night ahead.
She took her duty seriously. She thought quickly, made concise decisions, and held herself accountable for making the right ones. She did everything that her dad had always known that she could, that she would, if she was ever in a leadership position.
She was Clara Jones. And she had finally managed to prove to the world, but most of all herself, that she was meant for greater things than she had once settled for.
Thanks for believing in me, dad.

Arctic Recovery 2 - Chapter 1
Taglist:  @isanyonetoknow
In the year 2035, there was an explosion over the North Pole. Some blamed it on climate change, others on government testing, and the kids all simply believed it was Santa, testing a new sleigh.
And while the government was not the cause of the explosion, they did do a bang up job of getting involved with it as fast as they possibly could. What they found up there was unlike anything anyone had ever seen before, though there are definitely those who would claim otherwise.
What they found up there was a ship. Crashed and burning, with two creatures who are very similar to humans, and yet definitely, absolutely not human.
In the year 2035, an alien ship crash landed on earth. Two subjects were recovered, both severely injured, one only barely clinging to life, and they were brought to the fabled Area 51 to recover, and to be observed.
What was left of the ship was brought to a bright, well seasoned mechanic named Brennan Saddler, an early grad at the top of his class, a well known name among those who need work done on vehicles of all genres. Brennan’s touched on all makes of cars, and planes, even handled a rocket ship or two, and when the remains of an alien vessel were discovered he was the first choice to bring in to try and piece it back together.
Only issue with that plan is that, after three days of combing through the pieces, and placing them in their spots like a jigsaw puzzle, Brennan realized he had no idea what fueled the thing, or even what exactly it was made out of. Obviously alien, which was very cool, Brennan has quite a few sessions of just laughing as he marveled the pieces, however it meant that he wasn’t sure how to put it back together.
Welding didn’t seem to work, glue would fizz and burn off of the stuff, there were two pieces that, when pressed together, simply seemed to stick that way, but no other pieces did the same.
After another few weeks, he put in a request with the man who would check on him every day to see, and maybe try and speak, to the aliens who landed with the ship, maybe they would be able to give him more insight.
He was told that they would see what they could do, and for a month he waited, toying with the pieces, eventually he even found a box among the wreckage that was actually fully intact. A box about the size of a shoebox, with a blank screen on the front, with alien characters carved into it. He figured it must be some sort of black box, and he puts it in his office.
A month after he asks to see the aliens, they come back to him, tell him that one of them has died from their injuries, but they did get him a chance to meet with the other.
They stress to him that they’re not sure how intelligent, exactly, the alien is, he doesn’t communicate in any significant way, that they’ve found, at least, and it lowers Brennan’s hopes of finding anything out, but he needs to try.
It’s another three weeks after he’s given the news he’ll be allowed to see the alien before they actually go to any significant efforts to schedule a day for it, working at the speed of government, his mother would say. Finally they settle on a date.
After another month where he will have to wait.
So Brennan tries to focus on the ship. He can’t find any sort of obvious power source, he can’t figure out how the pieces go back together- well, he knows how they go together, just doesn’t have any way of making it stay- and all he’s got is that silver box with the screen.
He drops it onto his desk, in the back corner of the workshop one day, and he looks it over, finger grazing along the… metal? For some sort of seam or seal where the thing opens, but it is, astonishingly, seamless. The screen is the only thing on there that signifies that the thing is anything more than a hunk of… well metal.
So he breaks out the tools. Hammer first, but no matter how hard he hits it it doesn’t leave a dent, not even on the screen. Next he goes at it with a drill and a sizeable bit, but it only scratches the surface, never penetrates, and Brennan throws the box at a wall. He’s hoping that maybe, hidden inside that shoe-box sized piece of shit, is the blueprints or something to the damn ship, or something he can work with. He even calls up his friend who works construction and puts it under a jackhammer, but it still doesn’t budge.
He’s about to throw it at another wall when the office door opens, and a woman in a pressed pantsuit is staring at him with wide eyes. He lowers the box, dropping it back to the desk, “Can I help ya?” He asks, rubbing a thumb at one of the scuffs on the box, only for it to wipe right off. He rolls his eyes at it, and turns to the woman, who seems to have been waiting until she had his full attention.
“Hi, Brennan, right? Brennan Saddler?”
“Yeah, Yeah, that’s me.” He nods, wiping his hands on his jeans and offering her one for a shake, “You are?”
She looks at his hand with a look he could only describe as wary, and then steels herself before grabbing his hand and shaking it, “Doctor Jenna White, I’ll be acting as your monitor while you’re meeting with AR2, tomorrow.”
Brennan stares at her for a moment, then turns to look at the swimsuit calendar that’s tacked to the wall, “Shit, that is tomorrow innit?” He mumbles and sighs, “Finally, feel like I’ve been sitting here with my thumbs up my ass for months.” Dr. White doesn’t seem all that impressed by his metaphor, and her face twists a little at the idea of it.
“Well, it is, in fact, tomorrow. I’ll be there to keep an eye on you and ensure that no… Confidential information makes its way to the public.” Jenna watches him, one finely plucked eyebrow raised as if she’s expecting an answer. Brennan just stares back for a long moment, before he ‘oh’s in realization she’s expecting a response.
“Yeah, no, definitely, the whole alien thing ain’t public, and I will hundred percent respect that. I ain’t planning on telling everybody I meet about the alien thing.”
Jenna nods, “Good. Now, as for today, I am here to introduce myself, and lay out for you the ground rules for your visit with AR2-”
“Wait, real quick, what in god’s name does AR2 stand for?”
“Arctic recovery two,” she explains, crossing the room to sit in one of the chairs in front of Brennan’s desk, “As it was recovered in the arctic, and it was the second one we registered, it is AR2.” She nods, and she folds her hands on her lap, “Now, the rules?” She gestures to the chair across from her, and Brennan heaves a sigh. Getting told what to do in his own damn office. He still does it, though.
The rules that Dr. White lays out for him basically sum up to three basic concepts, don’t go into the chamber, if he somehow manages to get into the chamber, don’t fucking touch the alien, and if he somehow manages to get into the chamber, and touch the alien, he will very likely face some serious consequences. Dr. White stresses that part.
So Brennan’s only choice is to speak to the alien through a pane of glass, and his chances of being able to swing that are extremely slim. However, he’s not stupid, he has a plan. Sure, they might not speak the same language, but that’s what visual aids are for.
After Dr. White takes her leave, Brennan digs his phone out and wanders around the ship, taking picture after picture. He snaps pictures well into the night to make sure he has every angle he could possibly get to try and communicate with the alien.
He finds himself wondering what it looks like, after midnight, when the exhaustion is starting to seep in but he isn’t ready to stop taking pictures yet. He digs through the debris to find what he believes was the seat the aliens used, and it’s… Fairly normal looking, at least to him. It looks like a plain ass chair, like in a car. It’s almost disappointing when he looks it over, and mocks up how the belt system was set up, and he figures out that the aliens had to have been humanoid for the set up it has.
Not that there’s anything wrong with them being humanoid, but he had been lowkey hoping for something much more interesting.
That night when he sleeps he dreams of cooler aliens.
His meeting is set for early afternoon, but he’s got himself ready to go, with a plan on how to try and communicate with pictures, by around eleven, a few hours early. When Dr. White shows up she seems legitimately surprised by his eagerness, but Brennan points out that he is, in fact, meeting an alien for the first time ever, and she seems to relax after that. She leads him outside to a sleek black car with dark windows, and a driver who holds the back door open for both of them. Brennan gives the guy a nod, and he nods in return.
“You know where to take us, Anthony,” Dr. White says toward the front seat as the driver, Anthony apparently, gets in. She gets a grunt for an answer, but it seems to be enough for her as she settles into her seat, gathering a clipboard from the pocket on the back of the seat to examine the papers.
Brennan doesn’t really have anything to distract him aside from his phone, but he somehow feels that would be inappropriate right now, so he just settles on taking in his surroundings. The car is dark inside as well, in fact Brennan can barely see out the windows aside from the front and the driver’s windows.
He looks over Dr. White, as well as he can without being creepy. She’s wearing another suit, except this time it’s with a sharp pencil skirt, just as prim as she had looked yesterday, though today it’s with legs out, which Brennan can respect, especially since she has some killer legs from what he can see. Her black hair is pinned up in a flawless bun and he finds himself wondering how she manages that as he runs a hand through his own mess of shoulder length hair. Dr. White, even as she’s reading and rubbing absently at her chin, gives off a solid air of poise.
It makes Brennan feel like one hell of a slouch, in a grease-stained t-shirt and jeans that are equally, if not more, grease-stained. Honestly, he’s a mess, but he’s basically a mess twenty-four-seven.
He finally takes his eyes off of her, and looks to the driver, Anthony. The man’s pretty built, though his face doesn’t give it away. He’s got a scruffy red beard that hides what could be a sharp jaw, or a soft jaw, Brennan can’t tell from here. Anthony is a bit tall, the top of his head almost brushing the roof of the car, his hair is gelled down, otherwise Brennan is sure it would make up the difference. His face is partially obscured by dark shades, so Brennan can’t pin down an eye color on the guy, but the red hair, and the freckles that Brennan can see peeking out from the man’s collar leads him to assume green. Perhaps brown? Who knows.
Brennan doesn’t get too much longer to think on it, because Anthony catches him staring in the mirror, and clears his throat to get his attention. Brennan jerks a bit, and his eyes dart to the dark window. His eyebrows drop and he glares at his reflection for a moment before rolling his eyes and turning to Dr. White again. “How far is this place, anyways? I thought I was on site here?”
“You are. It’s a big campus, Mr. Saddler.” Dr. White replies without looking up from her papers, at least not at first. She finally looks up at him, “Area 51 spans over twenty-thousand acres of land, over thirty square miles. You can be on-site, and still be a five minute drive, Mr. Saddler.” She gets this smirk on her face that makes Brennan smirk in return, and she hugs the clipboard to her chest. “We’ll be there in just a few moments. In all reality, you could have walked here, but that wouldn’t be very hospitable of us, would it?” She smiles at him, and the car comes to a stop. She waits as Anthony gets out, comes around and opens her door for her.
She steps out, her kitten heels clicking on the pavement of the parking lot as she steps away from the car, and turns back to Brennan, waiting for him.
He takes a moment to swallow, and he finally follows her out of the car. Once she seems to be sure he’s following, she turns, and heads toward the building at the end of the lot. She scans a badge at the door and holds it open for him, she leads him to a desk where they both sign in, and she makes small talk with the woman behind it as Brennan scribbles down his information. He sets down the pen, smiles at the woman behind the desk, her nametag says Rebecca, and he turns to follow Dr. White.
Dr. White scans her badge at another set of doors, and Brennan follows her through the halls. It looks like a standard lab, full of beakers and test tubes with unrecognizable substances in them. She leads him down a hall, and then another, and then another and another until they finally reach an elevator. She scans her badge again, they step inside, and they go down. Down so far that Brennan starts to wonder if this isn’t all an elaborate ruse to throw him into a volcano or something because he’s asked for too much from them.
The doors open, and there’s no volcano, however there is another hallway, which makes Brennan heave a sigh. Dr. White leads the way, and thankfully enough they go into the third door on the left, because Brennan was sure that if she had taken him down another hallway he may have actually screamed.
Thankfully, they’ve reached their destination, and Dr. White explains to him that the only thing standing between him, and his attempt to get answers, is the door on the other side of the room.
He thanks her, and he starts to head for the door, but he pauses before he even lifts his hand to touch the handle, because he realizes, this is it. He’s about to see an alien.
On the other side of this door is a creature from a world that’s so far away Brennan can barely process it, and he’s about to walk in there, and try to use pictures on his phone to try and figure out how the thing’s ship works. He’s about to try to talk to an actual alien.
He is so not prepared for this. Oh god what if he fucks it up? What if it doesn’t like him? What if it spits acid on him or something? Oh god, worse, what if it likes him, a lot, and busts through the glass just to plant it’s alien eggs in his stomach?
“Mr. Saddler?” Brennan flinches a bit, turning to look at Dr. White, eyebrows raised in question, “Are you alright? You seem nervous. You know you aren’t in there alone, right? I will be there, as well as the lead researcher, and you aren’t in any danger. It is perfectly safe.” She steps up to his side, and rests a hand on his shoulder, “Come on, you don’t wanna waste what might be your only opportunity to see a real life alien, right?” She winks at him, and she pats his arm, opening the door for him, and guiding him into the room where he finally sees it. He finally sees his first alien.
And wow. It’s… Pretty.

oh my GOD the new ep!!!! like!!!!!!!!! SO MUCH happened but then also the preview for the next ep looks SO GOOD
**spoilers for first kisses and last words**
Hoo boy this was, as I predicted, a BIG one. Not that I needed to be an oracle to figure that out since there’s only a few eps left but man did it deliver.
I still think that Cool Kids, Cold Case had the most off the wall nonsense happening in the shortest period of time but this ep I think was overall the most consistently wild ep.
So let’s take it from the top.
I think I forgot to mention it before but Adaine’s, “I go into a rage,” hardcore cracked me up.
“I have hold person.”/”I stuff a sock in her mouth.” Insult to injury Adaine.
The entire group dunking on Aelwen, forgetting that Riz is literally bleeding out, half dead.
“sausage festival”
Adaine really was dead serious about her snitching threat huh?
Ally miming a boom mic.
I love how everyone including Siobhan mess up Aelwen’s name or mix it up with Adaine’s half the time.
And speaking of, wow. What a rise and fall for her in 3 eps (and about an hour in game time). She’s queen of the nerds. She’s not even cool at her own school. And terrified of whoever she made whatever shady deal with. I know she literally tried to kill the whole party last ep and that she’s the worst but I almost feel for her.
Almost.
“This is not on you. This is on the world within which you inhabit.”
I love Adaine’s semi-indigent, “We’re not going to kill you,” because Alwen was 100% ready to murder them which, side note, imagine how much on an international incident that would have been.
Lol at the group tag team bullying Aelwen about going to Mumple and Adaine using her magic jacket for super petty BS.
“Hey mom!”/”GodDAMMIT honey.”
The parent/kid relationships are so good in this show.
Everyone but Kristen parkouring off the roof when Sklonda specifically set up a ladder.
“The put a girl in a palimpsest,” followed immediately by, “She went to a party,” as if those are on the same level.
Sklonda Gukgak DUNKING Aelwen into the squad car with a technical assist from Adaine. I knew she was gonna be my fave parent from her intro scene and I love her even more than I thought.
“With all due respect, (A/N: Which is none), suck my dick, fuck you.”
“She tried to murder me.”/”BE THAT AS IT IS.”
“Eh, you carry a gun.”
“No one who’s detecting maidens is a maiden.”
I feel like I’m quoting a lot today but there were so many money lines this episode.
Everyone always loses it when Brennan starts doing the Identify spell voice and I love it.
Adaine’s dad is T R A S H
Adaine’s mom on the other hand…I’ve been wondering about her for a little while because usually the outright emotional abuse has been from her dad while her mom is either not there or not saying anything. So I’ve been wondering was her deal is and we finally got the start of an answer. I know we only have a few eps left but I hope we go a little deeper into what exactly is going on there. It seems like Adaine’s parents are gonna be a big factor in whatever endgame is planned so fingers crossed,
Everyone cracking up as Emily backs Fig into a corner talking to Penelope.
I love Gorgug so freaking much. Just his good natured, lumbering self. EVery time Zac opens his mouth gold falls out.
Emily MAXED out her deception huh?
I think Siobhan must have forgotten that she took the crystal with Ostentasia away from Aelwen at the end of last ep. Either that or they willingly gave it to the cops and I forgot (but I think it’s the former because she said in this ep that it was in Aelwen’s pocket when at the end of the last ep she def took it).
My autocorrect keeps wanting me to type Ellen for Aelwen. I WISH.
I knew it! He’s a PIRATE. Suck it Fabian. (lol at Adaine stirring the pot. That was like Adaine being sincerely polite and Siobhan trying to cause problems and I love mixed motive player/character decisions).
I wonder if the banker is named after John Hughes.
I can’t believe the dumb bank is actually a huge plot point.
Yikes, re: Bill and Fabian. That got tense. Though I’ve kinda been waiting for some kind of blowout for a while. His dad runs very hot and cold and I figured it would only be a matter of time before we saw some of the cold.
Also, Lou breaking character in the middle of that very intense moment to clarify a plot point.
Sidenote: For a hot sec after reading the title of the ep and remembering how Sklonda is competent to the point of (probably) breaking the original plot, I was so concerned she was gonna eat it this ep. So glad she didn’t.
Anyway, the idea of swinging sadly on a rope is so freaking funny.
Fig: Can I offer you a sad song in this trying time?
Huge portrait of Bill Seacaster in Fabian’s room.
Adaine is gonna bring up him kissing her sister very time she needs to get out of something w/ Fabian for the rest of her immortal life.
Another sidenote: This is a little thing but I always think it’s interesting when fantasy worlds have the same months and days as us when they’re named after like Norse Gods and Roman statesmen that wouldn’t exist in their world. Same with Roman numerals and Irish coffee.
“Am I allowed to smoke in here?”/”Of course.”
I really like the character detail that Adaine is always really polite to everyone, including/especially people like Fabian’s maid and Basrar. People that she wouldn’t necessarily “have to” be polite to, you know? It’s like she’s trying to make up for the fact that her family is a bag of dicks.
“Fantasy Google”
The whole bit with Fabian’s porn stash was so good. This group is so good w/ yes-adning each other.
“Privateer me a new one.” Emily is so good.
“Special investment” Suspicious
I was thinking “I can’t believe looking at a bank’s FAQs is part of this game,” right as Brennan said it.
So I went back and watched Siobhan’s face from when Emily first mentioned Kal Vaxis to when she got the connection to KVX and it took her 22 seconds. I also missed the quick cut to Brennan when Gorgug asks, “What is Kal Vaxis,” and you can tell he knows they’re so close to breaking it with the little grin on his face. I wish we had gotten a reaction shot right after she got it. Anyway, great team solve w/ the MVP trophy to Siobhan/Adaine.
I loved when Zac, Emily, and Siobhan all whipped out their laminated maps in tandem to figure out what was happening.
The hard mood change from Adaine dropping the bomb about Riz’s dad and to forming a committee to help Gorgug flirt with Zelda was wild.
Kristen telling anyone to be suave is hysterical.
What a DISASTER of a committee Gorgug’s friends are. Well meaning but so trash
Fig: Tell her you got a SICK tattoo
Adaine: Bring her to see art in the middle of the night
Fabian: You cannot date this person (Kristen: You absolutely have to)
Kristen: Actually not garbage advice but she is in no position to be giving dating advice to anyone
Riz: Having a literal existential crisis
“Who else is he gonna date?” WOW, savage Adaine.
I meant to say this before but I love how Adaine’s go-to is immediately ice cream and she’s always on board to go to Basrar’s. Like how when she texted everyone 2 eps ago she was like, “Let’s get ice cream now.”
Mmm, don’t love that Gorthalax isn’t answering his phone. I have been waiting for a significant adult to die for a while now.
OK, look, the whole thing about Penelope and Dayne being eternal prom king/queen. Is it wild? Yes. Is it implausible? No. No it’s not. Even Murph, most veteran player, was kind of like, “Wait, does that make sense?” Because, in this setting, it kind of would? I’m not sure it fits within the story so far and I’d have to go back and listen to the more lore-y stuff again but the conceit itself is like the exact right amount of crazy to fit in this setting? And they never cut to Brennan like I wanted so I could judge his face for any kind of tell. But anyway, you guys know I’ve been predicting a prom finale and this would fit right into a prom finale.
The girls giving Gorgug a pep talk before his date was ADORABLE.
Gorgug having to check his phone to remember three words, “You look nice.”
“Your friends are popular and loud” True
Zelda’s a BARBARIAN! She’s a MEGA BARBARIAN!
I know they mean ecstasy like intense emotion but I kept thinking, like, molly.
Hmm, so Penelope wanted to know if Zelda had hooked up w/ Gorgug, ie: if she was a maiden. Can they only palimpsest maidens? Or (as we will get to later) does nice guy Biz only want virginal maidens for his creepy reverse Weird Science arcade setup?
Zelda listing off every type of metal and then Gorgug’s, “Same stuff,” was perfect comic timing on Zac’s part.
Imagine the Hangman screaming down the road on fire, Zelda completely terrified.
I love the Hangman so freaking much.
“DO NOT GIVE TREATS TO MY MOTORCYCLE.”
I can’t believe everyone is living at the freaking crappy apartments. I knew they were all gonna end up hanging at one persons’ house but I kinda figured it would be Fabian’s house or Gorgug’s house.
I”m also concerned about Bill. I feel like we keep getting reminded that he’s mortal a LOT.
Did Gorgug’s parents have indoor fireworks on tap for Gorgug’s first date?
Oh my God the whole docking conversation. Never play chicken with Brennan because the dude will not blink.
“We didn’t do that.” That’s his other best comic timing moment of the ep.
“Polishing my axe”
Kristen this episode
I really wish they’d made the roll to find Ragh later in the ep. Fig is so ride or die for Gilear now and I love it.
“I fall asleep.”
Adaine almost making her parents dunk on Gilear but then pulling back.
But also, Adaine and Gilear going off the the oracle together.
“Fig pack it in.”
Affirmations with Fig and Gilear.
Fig, do you really think platonically cuddling with Kristen is the move?
Riz setting himself up for a dramatic entrance is so fantastic.
Hmm, so Biz and Zayne were attacked at the same time. That’s why that cold pill detail was in there way back. I’ve been trying to figure out what was always planned and what was quick re-working but Brennan is so good I can never really tell.
Are multiple unrelated groups just getting into palimpsests at the same time? Or mostly unrelated groups tied to one person?
“We are not gonna get our security deposit back.”
RIZ’S DAD IS JAMES BOND! YES! I didn’t know I wanted that to be the case until it happened and now that’s the only acceptable option.
Riz didn’t get the 20′s he needed when fighting Aelwen but man he got it at the best story moment this week.
Oh man that home movie
The pearl is grey. Interesting.
“Mom our family is so awesome Mom we’re all so badass, I thought it was just us but Dad is awesome too, why didn’t you tell me Mom?”
Sklonda: Internally screaming.
Man he went full Inigo Montoya.
“I’ve got nimble escape so…”
“I guess we have a two bedroom,” I think was a really underrated funny line.
Did Riz ever tell his mom about the time of death thing.
Everyone inundating Gilear with overlapping chatter.
lol the Hangman likes Zelda’s family
Ally’s panicked, “FUCK” is always hilarious.
Why are all the adults in Gorgug’s life trying to get him laid?
OK so the elementals were conjured by Aelwn’s magic Brennan said. He said by Aelwen’s magic, not by Aelwen. I wonder if that turn of phrase was specific or arbitrary. Like, we were told where Aelwen is but we don’t know. Was she forced to do it (either by threat or by magic)? Clearly someone (Biz?) is pulling her strings to at least some degree.
“It’s probably about marriage.” “WAR HAS BEEN DECLARED.”
That happened fast
Fun fact from my International Law class: When a government kidnaps someone, it’s called rendition.
“There’s a war, fuck school.”
Yeah it is wild that Adaine’s parents didn’t call her.
OK so did the Elves get Aelwen back but also go, “But you still need to go to jail.” Because they cut Brennan off before the end of that sentence which might have had more clues in it.
“I text my mom k”
I also wanna know who gave Kristen a slushy marg (It’s war times. I bet things are looser now)
Murph’s face when Brennan said, “Lucky Stones” was so good. That was so Riz.
S/O to Ally for pre-casting Guardian of Faith. Good instinct.
AHHHHHH BIZ
As I said in an earlier conversation s/o to Adaine for DUNKING on him at every opportunity because he DESERVED IT. Also, her instincts for who sucks in this game have been spot on.
Another s/o to Riz for having the presence of mind to not pull a Star Lord and to pretend to be on the bad dude’s side for long enough to gain some kind of upper hand.
OK, wow was not expecting that twist. I feel like I need to go back and rewatch some stuff to get a better handle of the timeline and stuff. Like, when exactly did the girls start going missing again? And what year is Biz? Has he been masterminding this whole thing? I feel like no but I feel like he’s masterminding his own thing which happens to a puzzle piece in something bigger? BUT IT’S A PRETTY DAMN BIG PIECE. Who opened the new arcade? Is it connected to the bank?  How did Biz get involved? Who’s his supplier? Did someone hook up Biz, Daybreak, Penelope, and Aelwen with Palimpsests to do their own separate things, hoping that at least one of them would succeed which would somehow be good for the mystery person? I am so excited to find out and I really hope Brennan and the cast do a Q+A sesh after S1 is over to hash some stuff out.
Siobhan’s face when Biz said he was going after Adaine.
ALSO, you’re just gonna TELL RIZ and you wanna PUT ONE OF HIS BEST FRIENDS into a MAGIC CRYSTAL???? AND YOU THOUGHT HE’D BE ON BOARD? Like, even if he was, what about the 4 other people who are there?????
(sidenote, wild Gorgug’s parents just left them alone, no questions asked)
Theme-wise, this is the fight ep I’m most excited for. It seems rad as hell.
All that yelling in the promo for next week. Either the raddest thing possible happened or there was a TPK. There is no other option.
Wow, that was a stellar ep and this is a really long post. I really can’t wait for next week’s!
Edit: I meant to say before, is Penelope’s FB album like…a hit list? Like does whoever’s doing the actual dirty work (Biz? S/o else?) know that whoever she takes a picture with is who they should target?

Spec and Motifs/Themes for S9
I’m about to write something that should probably be multiple posts, but, alas, you’ll get one giant tome of my ramblings that will all be proven wrong in a little over 24 hours.
I am currently powered by punchiness that follows a very long week, low sleep levels, leftover rotisserie chicken that I almost ate with a spoon instead of a fork, a couple Tootsie Pops in G Callen’s honor, and some chocolate milk. I did promise (okay, 2 weeks ago) @sspaz1000 and @mashmaiden speculation. (They’ll regret asking!)
Before I start on my theories, a few things of note:
Thank you to those who have listened to my ramblings and talked with me this season. Some of those talks have actually led to thoughts behind the cut.  To those who tolerated me: @aprylynn, @chicgeekgirl89, @raccoonsmate4life, @s-sdensi, and @ishiptoomanypeopleontv.  Always ever patient and so sweet. You guys rock!   These people are also whom you should probably see for Densi spec and reflection, which I won’t do too much of -- though, I could. I’ll touch on it briefly, but I’m not an expert.
Beneath the cut you’ll find a few different theories, reflections on motifs/themes from S9, and why I still cite Mr. Bartels as the King of Foreshadowing. Plus, lots of words. I might cut myself off on some of these, as feel free to ask for elaboration!
A quick look at the season, and you’ll see some repeated themes and motifs.  You can say that about past seasons, and some have played bigger roles over the years, e.g. duplicity, identity issues, etc.
This year has been about consequences: the team merits a firmer hand, Sam lost his wife, the job’s dangerous and makes your loved ones worry (see: Deeks), and we see a repeat of things come back to bite people later on -- which adds some depth to dragging some of the baddies’ plots out across the season and with 2 eps or more.  Hetty’s whole arcs deal with consequences: her team left someone behind, and she feels responsible.  Many veteran agents and figures suffer from Agent Orange. Keane’s back, but what life does he come back to? Etc.  Plus, see: Kensi/Deeks.  Deeks almost appears to be stalling the wedding and trying to hide his hesitation with disagreements and secret wedding venue scouting since Kensi was catching on to the avoidance. Like I said, though, I won’t talk about them too much.
With Hetty and the new Boss, one could easily argue that the ep ends with the team in serious peril.  We’ll know they’ll make it out, but the question is how would they survive such a pickle (much like in the “Deep Trouble” episodes - Shane Brennan even conceded in an interview we all knew Callen and Sam would survive, the question was always “How?”).  The team, nay, the Team, nay, THE TEAM (TM) has been at the center of the season even when separate.  Their future as a TEAM(TM) has been questioned/discussed.  It would make sense something narratively happened, and they already go in at odds.  Does this mean the whole TEAM is in trouble? Or do they accidentally or on purpose out of necessity, have to leave someone behind, perhaps assuming they’re dead, e.g. Keane? Having to get an injured member out of a foreign country off the books? Eep. (Speaking of TEAM, man, am I worried about Hidoko. Anyone else?)
So, that’s one set of theories.  The other I’ve had for a while, and it’s been building up with some of the eps, namely Bartels’, and the portrayal of certain dynamics plus other plots.  With BTS stuff and now Gemmill’s interview, it seems the theories are solid, but we’ll see. They could be a misdirect.
Narrative-wise, it would make a lot of sense that something very serious happens to Callen:
His relationship with Mosley has been soooooo contentious, up until they started to get along and connect by relating to each other.  While repetitive, they may have wanted to really amp it up -- and they did so by making either one of them, at any time, amped up past 10 -- to contrast the finale and latter half of the season. At times, it seemed like caricatures of either of them to keep them at ends.  He’s the one who explicitly promised to get the kid back, and when it comes to kids, we know G goes all in -- and then some.
Remember how I mentioned Bartels? Well, I’ve talked ad nauseum (I’m sorry!) before about his love of foreshadowing with not only references, but clever parallels. All the way back to the “The Grey Man,” we knew he seemed to know where G’s story was headed.  He paralleled the dad in it with G’s.  (He also had an “Amy” in it, and I’m still convinced he knows that Amy Callen lives!  See also: the brother/sister surviving in “Driving Miss Diaz.” Sure, you could argue that foreshadowed Alex, but don’t rain on my parade!) Well, the first big Bartels ep was *drum roll* the Joelle episode. Despite their history, plus her constant taunting and pissiness, G never ever stopped helping her.  He constantly noted, “I’m doing this for the kid.”  That’s all she had to say to get him to help, and she knew it.  She also knew she could trust him, despite their history.  No matter what, he helped her, and she kept asking HIM for help.  The rogue sect knew she’d go to him, probably based on what she reported. He helped her fake her death, knowing it was bad situation for the kid and dad who deserved to know.  She asked him to help her some more. Why? Because she knew he’d always do the right thing. If she got into danger, he’d help her.   Mosley saw the same in him, in addition to his capability.  (You could draw more potential parallels to Mosley and Joelle, and I will later*, which you can read or not.) So, G jumping through hoops for a mom and her kid? Check.
Bartels’ next stop? Garrison gets traded.  *still crying but also thinking about how COD and all these people are such pretty criers* Anyway, I’m gonna pull myself together. He made a very big deal about how it was his duty to keep helping families, noting to G that if his sacrifice saved and reunited another family, it would all be worth it.  It seems likely we’ll see G follow in his father’s footsteps, as he has with both of his parents his whole life, even before he realized it.  Perhaps he trades himself for Mosley’s son, or uses himself as a distraction/sacrifice, or he soldiers on despite a head injury to make sure the mission is completed -- and suffers delayed consequences, e.g. hematoma.   G seems the most likely to sacrifice himself.  He also would see himself as the most expendable.  His attachments are withering and commitments lessened this season.  Anna seems ready to let him go, which will probably strain his longest friendship: Arkady’s.  Hetty’s back, and he was trying to take up for the team in her stead, but now he knows they’re “safe” with her there -- at least their jobs are. Mosley seems to have cooled off on her mission to split them. (I’m going to get back to that, and I’ll put it in a separate post -- as I’ve just decided*).  Alex seems to have pulled away, and taken Jake with her. His dad’s where he can’t save him. Sam’s dealing okay, and he seems to be keeping G at a distance, so he probably feels he can’t do much to help him despite wanting to.  Kensi and Deeks have each other. Eric and Nell have each other. (BECAUSE EVERYONE KNOWS!!!!) Mosley’s son needs his mother.  And everyone else is needed by someone else.  He still always seems surprised by how much he means to people, as it’s not something he’s used to with his childhood, so he definitely sees himself as expendable as he used to be before certain relationships.
For practicality’s sake, something that would minimize G’s screentime for a few eps (nothing like Kensi’s when Dani was out), might help get COD an ep early on next season for his directing -- without having to wait until the end of the season like they usually do.  It would make scheduling his time across three episodes (location scouting and prep, directing, and editing) easier on him, the writers of the eps, and the crew that has to balance all the disparate schedules.  Directing slots are usually done a year in advance, so they would have known in advance when COD would be back in the director’s chair going into S10.
Again, with the consequence theme, something going super duper wrong, unlike with the Vietnam mission, would put the team that’s in hot water in even more hot water -- including Mosley.
Sam potentially losing G? This time of year? After being shot and probably wanting to double-down on his commitment to his children? THE DRAMA! THE ANGST!
Things going wrong with other team members following some difficult conversations and uncertainty about things? Probably another reason to delay the Densi wedding even more.
So, yes, that sums up (ha!) my different theories.  In response to the * things from above, I’m going to write a separate post about Mosley/Joelle.  I was going to include it in this one, but you’ve all suffered enough.

this isn’t the post I was expecting to write tonight, but it’s one that I need to write.
I don’t talk about this a lot, whether in person or online, but I’ve had a concussion for the past five and a half years. and it’s hard, I feel symptoms of it everyday, and I don’t know that that will ever change. sometimes talking about my concussion, or even concussions in general, can trigger anxiety attacks. so when I saw that Brennan was going to have a concussion this episode, I was honestly slightly terrified. I was afraid I was going to have to stop watching because of a panic attack. but more than that, I was afraid that the concussion storyline wasn’t going to feel authentic to me. I trust the Bones writers immensely, but I have never found a popular media representation of a concussion that feels true to me. this episode changed that.
beyond that, I was afraid to watch Brennan struggle with the cognitive and intellectual impacts of a concussion. because I am very much like her. and I knew that, if this storyline was done right, it was going to hit far too close to home. which it did. seeing her react to her less-than-Brennan mental capabilities following her injury was like watching myself back when I first got hurt. it was like watching myself on the bad days even now, when I can’t leave my bed or even consider picking up a book to read because of the pain it causes. and that was hard. but in a way, it was exactly what I needed. it hurt me to watch Brennan struggle and to know exactly what she was feeling. I love Temperance Brennan like she’s a family member, like she’s my best friend. she has such a special place in my heart for finally being a character whom I feel I can truly relate to on so many levels. so watching her struggle with the hardest struggle in my life was hard and it was painful.
but it also gave me hope. hope that one day I’ll be back the way Brennan is back. I’m doing well in school again, but I still feel that something is off. it’s like Brennan said, you can tell, at least when you’re like us, you can tell. I want to be back so badly. and a lot of times I feel like that won’t happen. but Brennan and this episode gave me hope. hope that someday I can have that.
this episode did so much for me with what was a relatively minor storyline. it gave me a representation of my everyday life in way that finally felt real to me. it felt authentic and true to character. they didn’t brush past the injury. they took it seriously and they respected it as a serious medical condition/issue. and they didn’t let Brennan feel hopeless. everyone around her lifted her up, supported her through what was probably one of the scariest moments in her life. (or rather one of the scariest moments in her life that pertained solely to her and not to the people she loves as well.) and that is what I need in my life and what I need to see in tv. (I do have a ton of crazy supportive people that I am blessed to call my friends and family. but seeing it from the outside perspective helps me recognize that and its importance.)
once again, Temperance Brennan makes me never want to give up hope. she makes me never want to stop chasing greatness in all areas of my life. Temperance Brennan has genuinely made me a better person, and this episode helped with that so much. thank you to the writers for treating this storyline with respect and care and not just using it as a cheap way to advance the plot. thank you for making it meaningful and for allowing my favorite character to overcome this obstacle so I can see that one day, maybe I can too. and thank you to Emily, as per usual, for being the perfect Brennan and for handling each and every storyline with such grace and talent.
in the past ten or so months that I’ve been watching this show, I’ve used it a lot to get me through my bad days with my concussion. now I have the perfect episode for days that I lose hope and feel like I will never get better.

Violet-Grace Youens funeral: Family of tragic girl killed in hit-and-run lay her to rest
New Post has been published on https://newsexplored.co.uk/violet-grace-youens-funeral-family-of-tragic-girl-killed-in-hit-and-run-lay-her-to-rest/
Violet-Grace Youens funeral: Family of tragic girl killed in hit-and-run lay her to rest
Tumblr media
PA
Violet-Grace Youens, who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run, was today laid to rest
Violet-Grace Youens died in her mother’s arms a day after she was struck by a car as she crossed a road with her grandmother Angela French.
Mrs French, 55 who was seriously injured in the smash, attended the emotional service in a wheelchair.
The youngster’s anguished mother, Rebecca Youens, 29, her face crumpled in grief, dyed her hair pale purple and wore a dress and jacket in the same colour for the little girl’s funeral.
Her distraught husband Glenn, 30, wore a purple tie as his tribute.
Tumblr media
CHRIS NEILL
The four-year-old girl was laid for set surrounded by mourners dressed in violet
Supported by other family members, the pair lifted their daughter’s small coffin from the white horse-drawn carriage that had borne it on its final journey.
And as they carried it into the Church of St Julie, in Eccleston, St Helen’s Merseyside- the same church where they were married and where Violet-Grace was baptized – the song True Colours, from the animated film ‘Trolls’ played out to the waiting mourners.
The casket itself was brightly decorated with rainbows and characters from Trolls and in one heart-rending moment dad Glenn placed a tender kiss on the lid.
Earlier, hundreds of townspeople had lined the route of the funeral cortege- shaken by the cruelness of the tragedy.
Inside the church, many adults wore the colour violet while children were dressed in fairytale and superhero costumes.
Tumblr media
LIVERPOOL ECHO
Her funeral was held at the Church of St Julie, where her parents were married and she was baptised
The ceremony was heavily-inspired by fairytales, with Get Back Up Again – also from Dreamworks film Trolls – Let It Go, the hit song from Disney’s Frozen, and the Labyrinth film version of David Bowie’s Dance Magic, played during the service.
The order of service was a colourful 12 page tribute to Violet-Grace showing her life in pictures.
It featured more than 50 photographs showcasing the magic she brought to those who loved her, as well as images of characters from Trolls and Frozen.
A message to mourners read: “Violet-Grace’s family would like to thanks everyone for their love and kindness in this tragic time.”
The service was led by parish priest Canon Thomas Neylon, who said those who had been in church with Rebecca and Glenn for happier occasions could not have imagined being here today “in circumstances no one could have foreseen.”
Tumblr media

The order of service was a colourful 12 page tribute to Violet-Grace showing her life in pictures
But he said Violet-Grace had “won the affection of those she came into contact with during her short life and stirred the hearts of many more who have heard of her because of her death.”
A party to celebrate her life was held after the service, with bouncy castles, face painting, princesses and superheroes.
Violet-Grace, who had a 22- month old brother Oliver, saved two lives by donating her pancreas and kidneys after her death.
The crash which killed her happened in St Helens on March 24.
Aidan McAteer, 23, from St Helens, has been charged with causing the death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and stealing a car,
Dean Brennan, 27, of no fixed address, is charged with assisting an offender, theft of a motor vehicle and the aggravating offence of allowing oneself to be carried within a stolen vehicle.
Both men are next due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on April 26.

Welcome to Part Five of 15 Years of Mysteries! In 2008, my local library moved to a new location and the Mystery Book Club moved along with it. Since the move closed the library for two weeks in January, the club did not meet that month. Fittingly, when we resumed in February, the club read a book with an apt title and a story set in Syracuse.
February 2008 selection
Origin by Diana Abu-Jabar
Synopsis:  Lena is a fingerprint expert at a crime lab in the city of Syracuse. She is drawn into a case involving a series of crib deaths—indistinguishable from SIDS except for the fevered testimony of one distraught mother with connections in high places.
Thoughts:  A chilling read, but well worth it. The story is inspired by a well-known true crime case Central New York residents would be familiar with, but this mystery takes its own course and is quite original. I did a full review of this book for my blog in 2012.
  March 2008 selection
Aunt Dimity: Snowbound by Nancy Atherton
Synopsis:  Lori Shepherd and the phantom Aunt Dimity have become one of the mystery genre’s most celebrated detective duos. In this # novel, a blizzard forces Lori to take shelter in Ladythorne Abbey, where a prized heirloom leads to murder.
Thoughts:  This is a light cozy mystery about a stolen jewel, not a murder mystery.
  April 2008 selection
Final Jeopardy by Linda Fairstein
Synopsis:  Alex Cooper awakens one morning to news of her own brutal murder. Soon, Manhattan’s top sex-crimes prosecutor discovers that the actual victim is film star Isabella Lascar, who had sought refuge at Alex’s private retreat. Now Alex must find the killer before another victim surfaces. 1st book in the long running series.
Thoughts:  The initial premise of the book is very similar to the classic Vera Caspary novel, Laura, but this story makes use of the author’s real-life experiences in and out of the courtroom to great effect.
  May 2008 selection
The Silver Pigs by Lindsay Davis
Synopsis:  Rome. AD 70. Private eye Marcus Didius Falco stumbles onto a highly profitable, if highly illegal, trade in silver ingots or pigs. Falco finds the start of a murderous trail that leads far beyond the seven hills.
Thoughts:  Keeping the characters straight in this one can be a challenge (for some) due to the nature of naming conventions in ancient Rome. I enjoyed this one.
  June 2008 selection
Rubicon by Steven Saylor
Synopsis:  As Caesar marches on Rome and panic erupts in the city, Gordianus the Finder discovers the body of Pompey’s favorite cousin. Now, Pompey exacts a terrible price, Gordanius must find the killer or sacrifice his own son-in-law to service in Pompey’s legions, and certain death. 6th in the Roma Sub Rosa series.
Thoughts:  Totally did not see the solution to the crime coming, but it was fairly presented. A very clever tale that breathes life into the history of Ancient Rome.
  July 2008 selection
Rosemary Remembered by Susan Wittig Albert
Synopsis:  China finds a woman with an unsettling resemblance to her murdered in a pick-up truck. The local police discover the woman’s fiancé is on the lam in Mexico City and focus on him as the main suspect. Meanwhile, China takes the advice of a psychic and finds the killer closer to home. 4th in the China Bayles series.
Thoughts:  Another enjoyable cozy, prefect for summer reading.
  August 2008 selection
Break No Bones by Kathy Reichs
Synopsis:  The inspiration for the hit Fox series Bones!  Forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan is stuck teaching at a lackluster archeology field school in the ruins of a Native American burial ground on the Charleston shore, but when she stumbles upon a fresh skeleton, her old friend Emma Rousseau, the local coroner, persuades Tempe to stay on and help with the investigation.
Thoughts:  The details of the case were quite interesting and the mystery is gripping. But once again, jumping into the middle of a series, I found it a challenge to grasp the character’s personal life – how is it that she works part-time in North Carolina and part-time in Quebec?!  Still this is a book that very much entices you to read them all – preferably in order.
  September 2008 selection
Dark Horse by Mike Langan
Synopsis:  Nicky Rigopoulos is a slick personal injury lawyer who sells out his clients to finance his campaign for state court judge in Syracuse, NY. When his law partner is murdered, Nicky finds himself the target of a police investigation.
Thoughts:  We read this one in advance of the author coming to speak at the library. It was a fun read that makes good use of local landmarks. I should note that this book has been recently re-issued under a new title: Grave Injuries. I also did a full review of this book for my blog in 2013.
  October 2008 selection
The Husband by Dean Koontz
Synopsis:  On an ordinary day, Mitchell Rafferty answers his cell phone. “We have your wife. You can get her back for two million cash.” The caller is deadly serious and doesn’t care that Mitch runs a small two-man landscaping operation and has no way of raising such a vast sum. He’s confident that Mitch will find a way.
Thoughts:  Horror master Koontz pens a more conventional suspense thriller with this title, but like many of his horror books, it’s an intense read.
  November 2008 selection
Tourist Season by Carl Hiaasen
Synopsis:  The only trace of the first victim was his Shriner’s fez washed up on the Miami Beach. The second victim, the head of the city’s chamber of commerce, was found dead with a toy alligator lodged in his throat. And that was just the beginning …
Thoughts:  Madcap fun.
  December 2008 selection
Weep No More My Lady by Mary Higgins Clark
Synopsis:  Elizabeth Lange checks into the ultimate California spa to uncover the dark truth behind her beloved sister’s plunge off a Manhattan penthouse balcony.
Thoughts:  One of Clark’s best page turners.
***
And those were the selections for 2008. Another mixed bag of mystery treats.
As an addendum, I should note a curious phenomenon I’ve seen over the years. Mysteries set in ancient Rome do not circulate well at my local library. In fact, historical mysteries set in an era prior to the Victorian Age do very poorly and have been – gasp – withdrawn from the collection with a few exceptions. I cannot explain this dire streak. The above selections for May and June were some of my favorite, memorable reads.
In 2004, I began a book discussion group focused on the mystery genre. In the 15 years since, the Mystery Book Club has read more than 150 mysteries, suspense thrillers, and a few true crime tales. Follow along as I take you through the years in a look back at “15 Years of Mysteries.” Stay tuned for part six.

What to Do About Football Medicine
Again, this is the reason you require all this. We've faced the very best, Addazio stated. These aren't great Quarterbacks. Hopefully, it is going to clear up soon. It's been coeducational ever since. You couldn't reason with her. I must admit I was surprised. We need to receive them ready. We must find out who we are and that which we are made from.
Tumblr media
The Little-Known Secrets to Colt Brennan Football Medicine
This is a place of big concern. Many do as well on the reduced divisions where they are ready to keep on playing and also make a degree. It's for my own use and because of this I would love to get a tiny Extra pains taken with that. But there's one candidate that hasn't got the attention he deserves.
Concentrate on the stats you desire and ignore the rest. Additional like most Tebow supporters, Steve likes to pick and select the stats he wants people to determine while completely ignoring different statistics which don't further his argument. It's also highly recommended that a TBI victim contact an expert traumatic brain injury law firm to better understand the capacity for developing a TBI lawsuit to raise the probability of receiving monetary reimbursement for the costly medical bills related to traumatic brain injury treatments. They're both huge losses, but Miller does not have any replacement.
The 5-Minute Rule for Colt Brennan Football Medicine
Callahan is one of the last four honorees in contention to deserve the Gagliardi Trophy. Fred Davis is the principal backup. We were an intriguing duo. Randy Thomas and Stephon Heyer compose the proper side.
The folks at Saddleback genuinely wished to help me, Brennan states. Brennan's condition is deemed serious. If that's true then virtually everyone should vote for Luke Falk.
Actually, the rest will most likely help them. I visit a whole lot of family, visit the beach. We're excited about having him back.
They give an assortment of programs like painting, drawing, and music. The simple fact that we had the opportunity to tie it at the close of the game was kind of a disgrace. I was probably the very first woman ever to campaign like that. The most important thing her patients say is she takes the opportunity to follow them and understands their requirements,'' Chen explained.
The True Meaning of Colt Brennan Football Medicine
He grew up to be a model citizen, the second man to get never sinned, and a very good Quarterback. Bat Masterson was among the few exceptions.
They were planning to call me Maverick. Bass rushed for at least 1,200 yards last season.
In the event the Wisconsin Badgers are not able to land Zaire I don't think that it is going to be the conclusion of the planet. It's unsurprising that Cal's QBs did not appear to be next to the top. Their offense is extremely spread out.
It's certainly going to be a battle. He will need to improve by watching rather than doing. Our locker room has to be redone. Healthy fears, to be certain.
He is quite great at delay, but he's going to get to cover it,'' she states. This trip is on a significantly bigger scale and is being planned in only a couple weeks. Theyd have to reduce my leg off for me not to emerge and play. The moment was not right,'' he explained. They played quite difficult from start to complete. You can't when it's your final moment.
What You Need to Do About Colt Brennan Football Medicine Before You Miss Your Chance
This is apparently an extremely prevalent concern among NFL executives, and it might bear additional research. A link was posted to your FB feed. Some workers figure out how to figure it out independently.
The curricular and co-curricular programs provide both serious training for people who might wish to major in theater arts in college together with opportunities for students who might be studying theater arts for the very first time and want to explore their interests. Stay InformedKnow more about what's happening in the planet, in Arkansas and in your neighborhood. It was merely one of those deals.
