augh the ot3 and saimatsu...... i just love themb so so so so so much there are so few ships i feel this strongly about... nine times out of ten if i "ship" something it's in a sorta hypothetical way where i hardly ever imagine them doing romantic things together and more just. i like them when they stand next to each other and their dynamic is good/silly/tragic/etc. but saimatsu and saiibomatsu make me so unwell (positive) like. if my aro romance repulsed ass is imagining a ship getting married i have it BAD for them ok

hi! i finished binging dq recently and i wanted to share some of my thoughts bc the brainrot it has given me is literally insane like. You dont understand. i didnt want to put this probably gigantic block of text in the ao3 comments so i figured id send it here so you can decide if you want it posted or not!

back to the topic i need to put thief in a blender (said with as much affection as possible btw). theyre soo painfully realistic and have a very unique perspective on the killing game which isnt rlly explored in fanfics so im eating it up! their talent is so cool and i cant wait to see them use it more later on. i also love how despite their paranoia and distrust they are still. Kind. Like they still reached out to ryouma and it literally saved his life!!!!! btw i think not killing him off in ch2 was a really good writing choice bc i think him dying after That scene with thief would just destroy them entirely -but on the topic of ryouma! im very glad you decided to give more spotlight to characters that werent given much of it in canon (or fanon ngl). him and tsumugi are characters that im rlly interested in but the game straight up gave them next to nothing, which i guess is very usual for danganronpa but yknow. Its still disappointing

thief and saiharas relationship makes me want to use both of them as a chew toy bc theyre so. So!!!!! im literally obsessed w them. we are still pretty early in the killing game but so many of their moments are already rotating in my mind At All Times. from the detective/criminal dynamic, to how much they care abt each other (thief obviously having a soft spot for shu despite not trusting people is soooo cute i need them gone). though that one scene in ch19 (i think?) where its said that their situation wld be considered romantic if it thief didnt have a knife at his throat is Life Changing and ive been thinking abt it so much -the contrast is just so good and the scene itself is so sad. also "Maybe this really was truly Shuichi, another side reflected to all of you, gleaming in the light like shards of a prism. Maybe you couldn’t see all of the sides right now, in this moment, but what you could see was so wonderful, spots danced in the back of your eyes." is such a beautifully written paragraph but the fact that thief thought this in the middle of a trial is so hilarious to me but i still support them. sometimes you really need to admire your Friend in a life or death situation to be able to push through. I get it

ok enough of those two. i love how you take the time to explore thief's relationships w other people as well. the break up scene between them and tsumugi had me blankly staring at my screen for good 30 seconds i think. the brief thief/ouma collab was great as well. i already mentioned ryouma but he is so dear to me head in hands.......cant wait for ch3 to physically beat the shit out of me

thief is my little freak whom i need to microwave at the highest temperatures. i think a lot of people should be more selfish in the killing game tbh, there’s a lot of characters who are ready to throw away everything for each other, i mean even a lot of the killers have selfless motives (kirumi, kaede) which is totally fine but!!! where my selfish bitches at where are the guys who just want to survive. despite all their paranoia though, they are a good person at heart which is something i’ve always found compelling in writing them.

WHY DIDN’T RYOMA LIVE IN CANON!!! you’re telling me a major theme of the game is overcoming yourself and pushing through despite hopelessness and then you just . kill off the other guy who’s canonically suicidal? it kinda left a bad taste in my mouth tbh. “oh you have nothing left to live for? die” i love ryoma i love mugi (obviously) and they deserve better than what the game gave them

they haven’t had much time for each other because we’re not even halfway through the game but UGH thiefhara means so much to me . thief wants to keep everyone at arm’s length but is actually way too soft to go through with it because there’s a detective with pretty eyes (which is so real btw) . i cant tell you anything about the plot but let it be known that chapter three is gonna have quite a few important moments in their relationship!!!

tbh the knife scene was something i just came up with as i was writing and thought “yeah okay that would be funny” and now people seem to love it,,, good thing i love it too

thief’s friends are so incredibly important to me btw . tsumugi who just wanted to be their friend but was rejected and has turned to angie and tenko, ryoma who still doesn’t have a reason to keep going but wants to try because there is someone who cares enough to reach out, kokichi (derogatory/with love), kaede who betrayed them in thief’s mind and still haunts them - someone who broke their trust after they went out on a line for someone, kaito whom i need thief to spend more time with because honestly he deserves more scenes

i hope chapter three slam dunks you into another dimension anon (said with so much sincerity and love), we got major canon divergence incoming ^-^

I’m still insane about FRAME btw. They’re doing a “rewrite” of Great Comet of 1812 with more crime.

Eventually Arashi scraps the whole thing and just writes it herself with Leo composing, but Anzu has the original play on her phone as a gift from the main cast as a thank you.

The cast is as follows: Natasha is Shu, Pierre is Tsumugi, Anatole is Ibara, Sonya is Yuzuru, Hélène is Rinne, Marya is Niki (because he’s gone gray), Fedya is Kohaku, Andrey is Keito (unwillingly), Bolkonsky is Eichi, Mary is Wataru and Balaga is Madara.

They’re doing this play in the dead of winter, so we get a lot of shots of the cast covered in snow/shivering in their costumes. Madara gets mild frostbite. Tori sets a chair on fire for warmth after asking Eichi and his sister for advice. Ibara has a mental breakdown on the bleachers they’re using for the audience. Wataru is having the time of his LIFE.

Yesterday in the midst of the queen dying tumblr frenzy i just read the first paragraph and short circuited i could not handle reading more lest i fucking die. You combined my. You combined my favorite musical (well it's a tie with Thrill Me but whatever) and my biggest hyperfixation *shakes you by the shoulders* im sooo normal.

Although i do think you just reinvented the Dramatica circle no? With a few extra characters and some missing (honestly i prefer this group but shh)

Wataru as Mary and Eichi as old Bolkonksy is killing me. I am listening to their song rn and im actually dead on the floor, Wataru would have so much fun. In the "where are my glasses??" meltdown halfway through the song Eichi would make direct eye contact with Keito in the wings, that's 80% of the reason he accepted the role. The fact that Keito is playing his son is even better. Eichi vs Shu here is like. War 2.0

Pierre as Tsumugi................no words. I expect you mightve seen the time last month when i had a breakdown cuz i kinned his first song too much to be healthy for a 20 yo. Moving on,

Madara as Balaga is just correct, he'd have the time of his life. But for Dolokhov, i kind of want Hiyori to play him. Is that ok? I think the ibara-hiyori-rinne trio would be funny.

I also think having Rei play Marya would be funnier, but yknow what would be just insane? Mika playing her. Ill give you a minute to think about how this would flip their dynamic and relationship like a tornado. No one would survive. Theyd have to swap 2 weeks into the production mika and yuzuru's roles just so theyd make it to opening night. Also Mika singing Sonya Alone would destroy me, go listen to it Now and tell me he wouldnt have flashbacks to Shu's breakdown in the the war. Id add lyrics to prove my point but itd just have to be the whole song cuz it just fitssss anyway anyway im sooo normal about this.

I saw a post in the Zuko tags arguing that Zutara is more problematic than Z*kka because Katara hates everyone in the Fire Nation while Sokka doesn't. And I'm like... did you completely switch their characters?? Katara is the one who still saw the humanity of the Fire Nation. She offered to heal Iroh and Zuko even though they was her enemies. She saved a Fire Nation village. But apparently Katara "hates" the Fire nation more than Sokka. Their lack of awareness literally astounds me.

so did they just sleep through sokka stating that absolutely everyone and everything in the fire nation was an enemy and not to be trusted, including the birds? or did i hallucinate him yelling THESE ARE ENEMY BIRDS in agitation?

i don’t know why this surprises me, though, since i’ve noticed a lot in those circles that a good chunk of that particular fanbase goes out of their way to give sokka all of katara’s defining characteristics--in particular, her compassion--to make their ship work. or, rather, because they desperately want a ship that has exactly what zutara does--the thematic parallels, the symbolism, the narrative journeys, the enemies-to-friends-to-lovers where zuko actually has to work to earn forgiveness and their bond becoming cemented by that, the sheer soulmatism inherent in their journey so closely paralleling the age-old romance told with Oma and Shu--but because they either hate katara or ‘straight’ ships so much (or both), they can’t actually stomach the thought of zuko and katara together. so they just try to take all of that and....shove it into zuko’s relationship with sokka.

which, yknow, i can almost get? red&blue gays is a fine trope, and i know a lot of them came from the vld fandom and were desperate for the sort of depth and also respect that they never got from shipping klance, but like, it’s the disrespect to katara that i just can’t tolerate. it’s the insistence that sokka is all the things that katara actually was in canon--compassionate, willing to help ‘the enemy’ even when it was dangerous because it was the right thing to do and people needed her help, the understanding--and the refusal to believe that zuko could ever fall in love with katara, based on the fact that they.......gave katara’s foundational character traits to sokka, and built their conception of zukka’s relationship off of that.

(and then justified it bc of course zuko is gay and would never be attracted to icky girls anyway, because that doesn’t have any unfortunate implications at all. insert eye rolling here.)

anyway, at the end of the day i really just have to laugh. bc like i keep seeing it when headcanons and aus and things pop up and they’re familiar except this time they’re tagged ‘zukka’ instead of ‘zutara’ and i’ve even seen people saying ‘i saw this as a zutara post but i made it better cause now it’s gay’ and im just. i guess at least they recognize, on some fundamental level, that zutara is the god tier ship of the show, and the best way to build up zukka is to take what canon gave us and pretend it was theirs to begin with, which i guess is sort of validating? but it’s still annoying as hell, because then posts like the one you mentioned come up and it’s like ‘did yall even watch the show or what???’

Shu is the vampire king and he’s been like, super unbearably thirsty lately, so Yui’s worried about him. Shu gives her the succ. Umm he has to teleport to the demon world for a bit, idk if it’s cuz there’s dangerous stuff going on or bc he can control his thirst better there, but they teleport, and after some wandering around they end up in that cave,, you know the one......the one where little Shu and Edgar wrote their names on the wall. Shu’s like “This place hasn’t changed at all...I played here when I was a kid, that’s all.” and he sees his demon language writing on the cave wall and he’s like “Back then...that guy was there too, huh...No, it’s nothing.” Then Shu senses someone’s presence and he’s like “quick, hide”

it’s yuma ofc and Shu’s like “what are you doing here?” and Yuma’s like “That’s my line!” Shu tries to fuckin get outta there but Yuma grabs his arm and he’s like “you know what actually I have something to talk to you about, about my past and stuff.” Shu’s gonna walk away but Yuma bluffs and implies that he remembers what happens in the past. “In the past we were friends...No, we were best friends.” Shu’s like “oh shit u remember??” and Yuma’s like “hah so it IS true!” Yuma’s pissed cuz Shu keeps trying to hide it. It seems like they’re gonna fight or smthn so Yui goes in between them :3 and Shu’s like “you know what im leaving”, Yuma’s all “so you’re just leaving this girl here???” and Shu gets all sarcastic and he’s like “your oh-so-hated aristocrat is leaving, you must be pretty thankful” (im dead)

Yuma gets super pissed off and starts kicking the shit out of some rocks. Yui tells Yuma to look at the writing on the wall, and he sorta calms down when he notices it and he apologizes for getting all mad. He explains that that’s Shu’s vampire name n stuff, and how it was supposed to be a secret between the two of them. Yuma says that he’s changed since then - he became a vampire and lost his memory, and it’s way too different from how it was back then, so they may never get along again. He says he thinks Shu realizes that and he’s trying to run away from reality cuz he hates it. Yuma’s like “well, let’s leave” and he takes Yui and leave the cave.

Yuma takes Yui to a big tree and says that he liked climbing it and stuff cuz the scenery was nice from way up there. It’s an apple tree so he picks one and gives it to her and they have a little snack n stuff. Then Yuma,, gives Yui that succ and says he’s gonna make his fangs go way deeper than Shu’s sjdhgfgdhd. Yui seems in really bad shape but Yuma’s ready to keep going. Shu shows up and he’s like “dude stop she’s gonna die at this rate” and Yuma’s like “SHUT UP SHES NOT YOURS and this is your fault anyway!”

Yuma forces Shu to look out at the view and yells at him that he must remember seeing that place going up in flames. He demands that Shu tells him what he knows. Shu like weakly whispers something under his breath (I hear “the flames...” but the rest is too quiet) and shoves Yuma away and leaves and also my heart is broken THANKS REJET. Yuma storms off too, angry that Shu won’t tell him anything about his past. Yui follows Shu - and it starts raining. Shu’s like “Don’t follow me, go back with that guy.”

They suddenly get attacked by EXPLODING EAGLES! It’s the adler clan attacking them with magic lol but it just sounds like exploding eagles :’D They’re after Shu’s power and Yui’s heart or whatever idk. Anyway remember when I said Shu was super thirsty lately??? He smells Yui’s blood and basically like collapses w/ thirst. He’s breathing really quickly and heavily and he bites her knowing that it might kill her. Yui insists she’s fine (even tho she’s really not) but Shu can’t stop anyway. Yuma shows up to get him off of her and he punches Shu.

They yell at each other some more and Yuma’s like “u know what, I know u didnt start the fire but you can’t pretend that you’re completely blameless, right???” and Shu is like D: and Yuma’s like “I just want you to take responsibility for stuff a little bit! Don’t you feel bad for this girl too?” After lecturing Shu a bunch, Yuma takes Yui and carries her off to somewhere with a bed (his room? idk).

He thanks her, and says that he really can’t give her away to that guy. He asks her to become his. He succs her. Suddenly a bunch of wolves break in and Yuma’s like “SHIT” and he gets super fucked up by the wolves rip...but Yuma’s like “U CANT HAVE OUR EVE” and and and and and and

Shu shows up and he’s like “This is vampire territory. Leave.” and the wolves shrink back a bit. (IT’S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED WHEN THEY WERE KIDS IM DECEASED!!!!!) Yuma’s like “well fuck em up!!!” and Shu uses his power on the wolves, and the wolves fuck off.

Yuma mutters that Shu’s been acting cool. Then he’s like “well...yknow.......thank you” and Shu’s like “it’s nothing...” Yuma tells Shu to be honest once in a while ^^ Then Yuma’s all “I won’t give this girl to you” and tells Yui that they’ll pick up where they left off. He succs Yui in front of Shu and Shu’s like “well of course im getting in on some of that action #yolo” so he succs Yui too. The shu/yuma/yui combo of my DREAMS!!!!!!

My fav part of it honestly is when Yuma’s saying some cool line and Shu’s like “hey can you quiet down, you’re spoiling the blood” and Yuma’s like “what? shut up” skadajgahfgh

Anyway Yuma’s like “don’t you have something to say to her?” and Shu’s like “huh? oh yeah...........I’m sorry.” and Yuma’s all satisfied and he’s like “what, do you have something else to say?” and Shu goes “well, not really. but like...I wanted to tell you something too. about your past, and you turning into a vampire...well...im sor-” and Yuma’s like “WELP im leaving.”

Shu’s like “wait-” but Yuma teleports away. Shu mutters, “which one of us is acting cool...?” Even though Yuma isn’t there, Shu says all quietly, “I’m sorry, Yuma.” (IM DEADDD)

Yuma monologues for a bit at the end and I’ve NEVER BEEN ABLE TO TRANSLATE THE MONOLOGUE BEFORE AND IT’S SO FRUSTRATING but Yuma goes “Well, he’s him and I’m me. That’s the way it should be.” and “I’ll create a place where I belong for myself. That’s the way it’s been since the past too.” anyway for the love of god I need to figure out what he’s saying here so badly idkufdjgfd

ugghhgh you know what? lost eden spoilers and long rambling about shu and yuma’s relationship under the cut

I KNOW i know im so predictable everyone is like “uugggghhh nat has to make everything about sh/uuma” but I’ve been thinking about this lucks reveal, I’ve thought long and hard about it, heck I even showered on it and I do my BEST thinking in the shower, and like I just can’t get it out of my head

yuma’s backstory (pre-mukami bros) is sad but it’s full of people that he loved. he had really good friends throughout his whole life pretty much. he had shu and that big group of kids with lucks as the leader, but he got separated from all of them. yuma was under the impression (before finding out that shu knew him pre-amnesia) that all his connections to his past had been severed. everyone was dead. all his old friends were gone.

and then more,blood rolls around and what do you know!!! yuma finds an actual, honest-to-god connection to his old life in the form of shu sakamaki! in MB and dark fate, shu was yuma’s only clue when it came to finding out his past. the problem with that was........even if yuma was desperate to find out about his past, shu wasn’t willing to tell him about it right away. shu didnt want to talk about it, and he even lied to yuma by saying that he was the one who started the fire that burnt down his village. even with shu right there, with all the answers, yuma still has to find out about his friendship with shu all on his own. that was hella frustrating. and heck, it’s not shu’s fault - shu had been really hurt by edgar’s supposed death and he wasnt emotionally ready to have another relationship like that, so he pushed yuma away. for a lot of reasons, they were having trouble connecting with each other again.

but from the point of view of someone just watching the games unfold, it definitely looked like things were getting better!! things were getting better I think! they had a really good talk in dark fate, yuma even referred to himself as shu’s best friend, and shu expressed both verbally and with his actions that he didn’t want yuma to die (and heck, that’s the nicest thing a diaboy has ever done for another diaboy!). shu came clean about the fact that he didnt really burn the village down, and he was even able to work shit out with reiji. they were hella friendly in lunatic parade, shu was smiling and stuff. shu even got to apologize in the versus cd, and believe me when I say that he needed to get that off his chest for a long time. such a long time. holy shit (sure yuma kinda refused to hear the apology and ran away before shu got to say it, because rejet fucking hates me personally, but shu ESSENTIALLY apologized ok)

BUT THEN

but then in lost eden, LUCKS shows up. LUCKS!!! lucks is someone that yuma has CLEAR memories of, someone that he’s mourned for for a long time, someone that he’s planted roses for in his garden to remember him by. LUCKS is here now, and yuma’s like fuckin :D!!!! immediately, it’s the goddamn reunion of the century, and he still calls him by that old nickname Bear which is pretty much the oldest name that yuma remembers being called. it’s really special to him.

...yuma no longer NEEDS to be around shu. he has another connection to his past now, someone who doesnt withhold information about him like shu does, someone who he’s been through a lot of hardships with. I think yuma prefers his life with lucks and the others over his life as edgar, to be honest. and it’s gotta be a nice change having someone that you can just sit and talk about your past with, as opposed to shu who couldn’t deal with that at all.

so, I guess what I’m wondering is, like.............I know that shu is still in yuma’s LE route because he was mentioned in the preview. how exactly is shu fitting in with all of this? is shu gonna meet lucks, and if so, what are they gonna think of each other?? is shu gonna get pushed aside so lucks can regain the “best friend” title, and is he gonna be okay with that??? WHAT DID SHU DO TO MAKE YUMA CRY

anyway, best case scenario for me: yuma makes it clear that he wasnt JUST hanging with shu just to find out about his past and that he genuinely considers shu his friend regardless, and that he’ll keep being his friend even if other friends show up. I’ll recover emotionally and then I’ll probably write some fics where lucks is the love rival
