the whole social murder routine various internet communities have taken a liking to practicing makes me so annoyed. online users have discovered ways to get rid of unwanted people and ran with it while not even bothering to establish any social institutes for redeeming the wrongfully accused and those who wish to do better after realising they've done harmful things. if a person fucked up, for real or not, they're rotten forever in the eyes of the public, no matter their age, intent to change for the better or their actions showing it in practise.

looking at the current state of things... we've got a long road ahead towards betterment. it's not just about rain world tumblr community, really - everywhere is unfortunately like this. people don't treat internet strangers as people and don't think that online qualms affect reality in any way, and it hurts everyone, making them miserable. really wish it wasn't like this, but oh well.

call that doomposting, but i don't think rain world tumblr will truly learn the lesson for quite some time. being an asshole is a choice, and you folks (not talking about this blog here, i respect you for a reasonable approach towards everything that has happened) pick this option far more often than being at least a little bit empathetic towards your fandom neighbours. no wonder people think twice about interacting with this community at all.

disliking someone doesn't give you the ultimate right to bring them down in any way you can, punching their social life and mental wellbeing in the gut for months and years to come. threats, especially death threats, should never, ever be an option, they won't get you or your target anywhere except misery.

and, lastly, i hope everyone involved in the situation for the past few months can heal in due time and move on to better things in life.

alot of that is just due to the nature of our social media. I could go more in-depth about what I think we should change, but like. I have stuff to do and it'd take a while.

don't stay silent on things you think are wrong. if a community sucks, find those in the community who agree, and make friends with them, don't just say "nyoooo it's to toxic" find people who agree and try to change it.

change only happens when people do something. and if you're only complaining nothing will be done, it will simply stay the same.

this applies in the real world aswell. but it's easier to pull off digitally.

and on the internet harassment is just a block away from stopping. sometimes, kinda. sort of. better than irl.

actions speak louder than words. but on the internet words are actions. use them to your advantage. do not let people harass you into silence.

I just realized that I saved $49,000 in two years! Granted, I was only paying $300 a month in rent for one of those years, but for the other year, I was paying $1500 monthly for rent, and I still saved like $18,000 that year. (Obviously, I make a crazy salary.)

Sean and I got really really really lucky that his parents offered to sell us our condo for $60k below asking price rent-to-own style with no down payment or interest charged, but hey - we were ready to grab ahold of that opportunity when it came. And I think our idea (Sean’s idea) to buy a townhouse instead of a house-house was very clever. We plan to rent out the condo while paying down the townhouse and continue to sock away money until we have enough money in savings to pay for the condo... and then use that on a down payment for a house proper, move again, and rent out the townhome. We’re hoping we will have enough coming in in rents to let the rentals take care of themselves, or near enough, and put our salaries towards the new mortgage - all the while putting money into retirement, investments, and savings - I’m very financially conservative, so I could not live without a generous cushion in the event of an emergency.

You can spend SO MUCH on a house, though... We’re already planning some upgrades to the townhouse - new countertops in the kitchen with a backsplash, building out the patio, and finishing the basement (DIY as possible to save on labor) - and that’s thousands and thousands of dollars already spent in our imaginations. We will be living there for a few years, so I’m happy to make it more comfortable, and adding a new bedroom in the basement means we can hopefully charge a bit more for rent, but I want to make sure we keep our eyes on the long term goal of a house, and draw the line on townhouse improvements somewhere before I spend too much money on the tile for the kitchen backsplash.

Our friend has several properties, and she charges, ballpark, $700 per bedroom, and Sean’s mother has also always rented our condo pretty low. This lets them pick and choose their tenants, rather than settling for whoever is willing to pay. Our friend also does not raise rent on anyone living there, which creates better relationships with her tenants, they take better care of the place because they know they will be there for a while, and there’s less trouble with having to clean the place out and prep for a new renter/interview people/etc. once you’ve priced someone out. It also makes me feel marginally better about being a landlord. I don’t disagree with a lot of stuff said about the ethics of owning multiple properties, but... I dunno, that’s the game everyone’s playing. That’s the world we live in. We’re gonna charge fair rents and be responsible and take care of our tenants, and that’s all we can do, since there’s not gonna be a revolution anytime soon 🤷‍♀️
