anyone else have/need like. a social crutch when going out, especially in large groups or new interactions? said crutch is either a person (most often) or an item like a fidget toy something to ground you in the convo etc

#we had a big family dinner including my cousins and their wives #and i realised when its not ppl im 100% comfy with i lose track of. social cues?#i suddenly dont know where to look in a conversation drown out words etc #and the only reason i could shift back into the convo is bc i sat beside my sister who we r super close with #so i kinda mimicked her in gestures and esp eye contact and could bounce off of what she said to get in the convo #and she left early and suddenly i was so lost??? as if i had 0 clue how to communicate #and i realised i always have a social crutch #when im w my best friends i dont need it bc i dont need to force social norms #but w others ill take the person im closest to and bounce off of them #and if its one to one chats im v good at shifting tone and expression to match them #or ill use the 'customer service' approach lmao #idk WHY it all just clicked today and right now #literally stopped halfway thru brushing my teeth to write this #anyway yeah idk and i dont wanna think of what this says or means #burrito talks #delete later #social norms
