idk why so many antis took the whole "like long lost sibling would " on that alt text for the promo of dark beginnings as canon and 'solid evidence' that shadria have a sibling relationship when the text can also be read as sarcastic or mocking? I might be reaching but sarcasm doesn't really translate well in text but putting any indication like ' or () when it doesn't flow in the original text always feels like somebody making snarky comment to me, idk to me personally I could argue w antis that it mocking them by being like 'isn't this obvious ship bait totally platonic' ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Idk it just so annoying to see so many antis go 'haha shadria fans must be weeping' when it a fucking alt text on a promo that I doubt any writers or higher up would quality check in comparison to the fact in canon that shadria has yet to be label unlike other characters in the series as well as ignoring how many opportunities the series had to outright have shadow call Maria his sister no media be it games, shows or comics has him calling her sister or vice versa. So unless the new game outright has him referring to her as sister in all languages, shadria will still be a valid ship and even if that does happen it still won't erase all the moments the two had either shippers r still gonna ship.
I don't understand why antis think one little text line that not even in any media is gonna make Sharia shipper suddenly stop. Apology for ranting but omg it so annoying seeing anti act so high n mighty over something so trivial 💀

Personally, I'm inclined to agree with Beev on this one. It seems like they threw in "as long-lost siblings would" in order to placate the antis. Which would, ironically enough, imply an awareness that the piece could be read as romantic.
There was really no need for a parenthetical note to dictate the tone of the piece. If they left it at "Shadow and Maria reach out for one another in an infinite abyss," the reader could interpret it any way they want.
(Random tangent, but describing space as an "infinite abyss" also strikes me as a bit strange. You can see stars in the piece.)
I think SoA knows the flavor of the food they've been serving us recently, but they did this as a sort of PR move to cover their asses. They might be worried about losing face with Shadria antis, who form a not-unsizable portion of fandom now compared to Shadria shippers.
...but I mean. Come on. There's no way they're not aware.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the thing is, it's not like the manga or anything else is explicitly confirming the dynamic is definitely romantic, either. It's not like we shippers aren't aware we have our ship goggles on; we just wanna vibe in our space.
Ever since playing SA2 as a kid and wondering if Shadow was in love with Maria, I've always had the feeling that their dynamic was supposed to be left open to interpretation. Antis want to impose their reading upon pain of accusing you of being a freak, while the shippers are more like "haha... unless?"
Also, it's really funny to think this is the ship they consider worth calling people "demented dogs" over. Have you literally played any other video game ever? Read any book? Watched any movie? Oh no, a ship the game probably wanted us to ship a little! OOGA-BOOGA.
This is probably one of the least problematic ships in existence tbh. Methinks the antis doth protest too much.
Besides, you're (general you) being disingenuous to claim there are no undertones whatsoever. Why include them if the dynamic is only supposed to be interpreted a certain way?
Using Sonic X as an example of what I'm talking about might be cheating, but since it's about as non-canon as the manga appears to be, it seems fair to mention it.
In Sonic X, Shadow also tends to recall Maria through a romanticized filter; he remembers her as being extra beautiful and ethereal compared to other characters who recall her as simply an ordinary girl.
Compare Shadow's flashbacks to the flashbacks of the soldier who shot her:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the soldier's flashback, Maria is just a frightened child who pulls the lever. We're not shown her body, but rather his reaction:
Tumblr media
In Shadow's flashbacks, Maria slumps tragically to the ground and/or lies on the ground, calmly speaking her last words while bathed in soft blue light.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a heightened sentimentality to Shadow's memories of Maria which serves to emphasize, I guess, the "beauty" that the ARK tragedy took from him. Considering Shadow is stated to like "nothing," maybe he finds nothing or no one else as beautiful.
Not that her death wasn't tragic in and of itself, but there's a marked difference in tone. One feels like a child's senseless death viewed from the POV of the man who killed her, and the other feels like... to be frank... something romance anime-coded.
It's worth noting that Shadow maintains this romanticized filter even when fantasizing about an alternate timeline where she survived (or perhaps the future they had been looking forward to after she was cured), so you can't always chalk it up to a product of Gerald's brainwashing:

...let's unpack this on the therapist's couch, hmm?

I don't understand why antis think one little text line that not even in any media is gonna make Sharia shipper suddenly stop.
Tumblr media
Very true, and it's a fool's errand to try. I was going to reblog that piece without tags, as per usual, but I decided to tag it as "Shadria" just to flip antis off. Fuck you, you can't tell me what to ship on my own blog. xP
(also tagged it "Shadria" because "Shadria" was the original ship name and it's still a perfectly good ship name. it's a pet peeve of mine, how antis chased shippers off the Shadria tag and forced them to come up with less elegant portmanteaus. "Shadaria" and "Mariadow" sound so much clunkier than "Shadria")
---
Apology for ranting but omg it so annoying seeing anti act so high n mighty over something so trivial 💀
No worries, antis are annoying at best. Wish they would just go away. >.>

do you think you'll put "Stasis in darkness" on AO3 eventually?
see, when the idea first came to me, I hadn't really planned on doing anything with it because I wasn't sure if I could make it work. there's a level of gravitas in the relationship between a god and their devoted servant that I didn't think would translate well to steddie because, let's be real, those boys are goofy dorks. but the idea wouldn't leave me alone so I typed up the original post in an attempt to work it out of my system and move on.
(the post kind of blew up, which I was not expecting at all!! like, not even a little bit! i post all sorts of rough little ideas for my own amusement and I've been able to do that without drawing much attention until that point.)
Anyway, I wouldn't have done much with it but @acowardinmordor left some comments/tags/what have you that helped me nail down the setting in my head which really opened the door for me to explore how the story could progress. (apologies, strife, I'm not sure I ever properly thanked you for that burst of inspiration, so please accept this shoutout as an expression of gratitude). And the amazing @ent-is-indecisive allowed me to rant about it which really helped flesh out the story. Seriously, there are elements and lore coming up that would not have existed if it weren't for ent. (and thank you once again ent for the ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL fanart you made for the reveal scene, I'm still overcome with joy whenever I think about it!).
Once it got to that point, I knew I wanted it to be a self-contained story and I was afraid that if I did a multi-chapter fic I'd lose the thread and never make it to the ending I want the fic to have. (no, the end scene hasn't been written yet but I KNOW what it's going to be and I hope everyone will love it as much as i do). So I promised myself that I was not going to post it on ao3 until the whole thing was written out completely.
However, I occasionally need a confidence/motivation boost so I've been posting consecutive parts of the rough draft here. you have no idea how much the people who reblogged with tags or left comments have helped me fight off the discouragement my brain likes to bog me down with; off the top of my head, @godsweakestboy , @redfreckledwolf, @fuctacles , @spectrum-spectre , and @lawrencebshoggoth have given me lovely, enthusiastic words of encouragement. and they're only the ones I can think of at this moment. there's so many other people who've done this, so if you've ever left me nice tags or comments, please know that I've read every single one of them repeatedly whenever I need to get over a slump. I'm so grateful for all of you!
Anyway, all this is to say yes! It is going to be posted as a oneshot on ao3 once I've finished writing it. <3

Hello, I hope you’ve been well recently!!
I’m starting to fall into a reading slump and was wondering if you’d be willing to give any fic recs? Or any recs really, I trust your opinion! If you don’t feel like it just ignore this!
Hope you have a good day 🤍
Hi, peach!!! I am doing well now, thank you for asking!
As for recs, I hope you don't mind if I rec some of my favourite published books? Most of these are fantasy/sci-fi, but I've included a couple fiction books as well, so your mileage may vary. Hope you're able to find something to get you out of the reading slump, though!
💗The Coldfire Trilogy by C.S. Friedman - The series takes place on the planet Erna, which was colonized by humanity about 1200 years prior to the start of the series. Erna is much like Earth was, only there is one very glaring difference. Erna has a naturally occurring phenomena called 'The Fae', which coats the land via seismic activity and reacts to the fears and desires of the human imagination. Basically, if you think it or fear it, it can manifest itself through the fae and come after you. Some humans, known as adepts, are able to manipulate the fae and use it as a sort of magic, while most are incapable of purposefully using it and view the fae, and Erna itself, as dangerous.
While technically sci-fi, the book reads more like fantasy blended with horror. The first book has a bit of a flimsy plot (man falls for woman, woman gets fucked up, man vows to fix things), but the world building and the characters are stand-out. The real meat of the series is the relationship between Damien Vryce, a warrior priest of the Church of Human Unification, and Gerald Tarrant, the Neocount of Merenthia, a dangerous fae user who sacrificed his family centuries ago so as to be (mostly) immortal, and is later revealed to be the prophet of the very church Vryce worships at. The push and pull of these two, combined with some very homoerotic moments, is what really makes this trilogy.
🦋Perdido Street Station by China Mieville - Mieville is an interesting writer, in that he doesn't stick to one genre. This one was his foya into 'weird fiction' - basically grotesque fantasy meets steampunk. We are invited into the city of Bas-Lag, the largest city in the country of New Crobuzon, where we meet a scientist named Isaac. Isaac is approached by a garuda - a foreign bird-like species with customs unknown to most outside of their community. This garuda - Yagharek - has had his wings clipped for committing an unknown crime, and has asked Isaac for a way to regrow his wings.
Accepting the challenge (and the money), Isaac begins studying all manner of winged creatures in hopes of figuring out how to build new wings for Yagharek. He comes across a unique caterpillar that. Well. Ends up not being such a friendly little bug.
The world is gross, and its visceral, and there's no heroes here (though Isaac is not a bad guy). But it's the type of world that really speaks to a vivid and unique imagination, and as uncomfortable as I was reading it, I really, really enjoyed my time.
☀️Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe - I'm just gonna rely on wikipedia for the summary for this one: "It chronicles the journey of Severian, a journeyman torturer from the Order of the Seekers for Truth and Penitence, who, after helping a client kill themselves, is exiled in disgrace to journey to the distant city of Thrax where he is to live out his days as their executioner. Severian lives in the ancient city of Nessus in a nation called the Commonwealth, ruled by the Autarch, in the Southern Hemisphere. It is at war with Ascia, its totalitarian northern neighbor. It is a first-person narrative, ostensibly translated by Wolfe into contemporary English, set in a distant future when the Sun has dimmed and Earth is cooler."
Wolfe is the king of the unreliable narrator trope, along with main characters who you aren't really supposed to like. In fact, Severian is written as a detestable person, and yet I can't look away from him. The book is packed with symbolism and mystery, and creates a series of books that whenever you return to it, you discover something new or reinterpret a scene. It blends fantasy and science fiction, with horror and unease.
It also takes place on planet earth, but centuries after a collapse of civilization that brought about a new dark age. This allows for moments in the story to take place in seemingly magical, unknowable places because it comes from the POV of a person who has never encountered these things, only for us readers to discover that what Severian is describing isn't some large, majestic castle, but a half-dissolving office tower with drop ceilings, or the tower he lives in isn't some ancient stone tower, but abandoned spaceships in silos that no longer work.
🌊The Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K Le Guin - What can be said that hasn't already been said about this series? Just read it and enjoy. It truly is as beautiful as everyone says it is.
📚Hyperion & The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons - Basically a retelling of the Canterbury Tales, Hyperion follows a set of pilgrims on their way to the planet Hyperion, a place that suffers from time dilation - where time doesn't follow a set pattern like it does on planet earth. On Hyperion is a sacred place called the Time Tombs, which is guarded by an unknowable creature known only as The Shrike. The first book takes place on the ship on its way to Hyperion, where the pilgrims tell their own personal stories in a bid to figure out why they've been specially selected to make the journey. The second book is when they're on the planet itself, and all the things that happen at the Time Tombs and with the Shrike.
Because the stories from the pilgrims vary so much, the genre of the books change - science fiction becomes cyberpunk becomes theological discussions becomes horror. It's a perfect blend, and has something for everyone.
🐎The Charioteer by Mary Renault - Renault is perhaps best known for her same-sex romances set in ancient Greece, but my favourite has always been The Charioteer. Set during the Second World War, we follow a man named Laurie who was hurt during the Battle of Dunkirk. Spending time in a hospital along the coast of England, he meets a porter named Andrew Raynes. Andrew is a quaker and therefore a conscientious objector. And he is incredibly naive, unaware of his own sexuality. Despite this, he and Laurie strike up a friendship, and Laurie slowly finds himself drawn to Andrew.
Meanwhile, an old schoolmate of Laurie's reappears. Ralph Lanyon is a Naval Officer who was also hurt at Dunkirk, and has been honourably discharged. Lanyon is almost the exact opposite of Andrew - he's charismatic, he's wise to the world, and he knows he likes men. Laurie gets swept up in Lanyon's charisma, and alongside him dips his toes into the queer underground of London.
The book's main theme centres itself around Plato's allegory of the Chariot. Men's souls are guided by a chariot that is drawn by two horses; a white one which is noble and pure of intention, and a black one which revels in the base and the carnal. A person is constantly at odds with these two horses, and by allowing the horses to sync in perfect harmony, one can attain enlightenment. In this story, Andrew represents the white horse - pure, noble, but chaste and at times unfulfilling. Meanwhile, Ralph is the black horse - passion, excess, giving in to one's needs and desires.
One of the real gems of this book is that it was published in the 1950s, and Renault wrote it based off the men she met while she served as a nurse during the Second World War. Renault herself was a lesbian, so the touches of longing and of secrecy came from a really personal place.
---
And some honourable mentions: Swordpoint by Ellen Kushner (queer fantasy with sword duels!), Deerskin by Robin McKinley (fantasy featuring a female character overcoming psychological and physical trauma - a heavy read, but very well done), The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon (classic coming of age fantasy epic, but with a female lead this time!)

love.
a word everyone spells as l-o-v-e, except one certain young sorcerer – to whom it appears h-a-p-p-y, to whom it appears h-a-v-o-c – to whom it appears the shape of the letters of your name.
you, on the other hand, forget how to spell when the same word is before you – a fact which, your admirer reckons, would have been a major problem were he not he – that is, were he not the one and only 'gojo satoru'.
and thus begins, the plan.
and thus begins, the six steps to catch one's crush's eye — by the six eyes.

"is that what you really think?"
gojo wonders if a momentous occasion as the one now deserves one brawl thrown into it or not. it won't be anything much; just dumping a bowl of soup down suguru's shirt and/or landing a pretty solid kick to his stomach and/or-
"careful, senpai or you might've to go home, bloody and beaten," the most monotone voice ever possible crashes into his thoughts in the worst possible way. a snicker, far too familiar, joins in. "yeah, nanami's right. besides, we haven't even clicked a pic yet. you wouldn't want to wear a black eye in it, would you?"
clinking his glass with shoko's, the white-haired watches suguru gulp down a shot of tequila, then give a mighty firm shake of his head. "no, of-fucking-course not. today is our dearest kouhai's important day; i don't wanna get involved in any drama now; though..." trailing off, the black-haired boy shoots gojo an awfully obvious side-glance before a look shared with the others.
the boy lets his eyes wander away from them. an abominably sharp acrylic nail pokes him in the cheek. gojo exhales a sigh, so exhausted.
were it just a day, the boy's certain to the hell and back, that he would have whipped up a snarky insult to the stink-eye aimed his way. the boy would have slapped his drunk classmate's hand away, calling her sense of fashion the worst names possible.
gojo, however, decides to resort to neither today. he decides to settle for a sigh - the second in the last minute, longer and wearier than the one before - and rests his face into the hollow of his palms, screwing eyes shut.
an exasperated grumble - or two, maybe - permeates the air.
"gojo senpai," the words ring out in a tone far too soft and worried. he muses he doesn't need to look to see the sympathetic frown haibara must be wearing, nor the varying degrees of pity and concern etched into the others' features. a warm hand squeezes his shoulder slightly.
haibara continues, "geto senpai is not entirely wrong, y'know? yes, of course, implying you might kick up drama is sorta wrong, i admit so. but otherwise... you could've tried to, i don't know, somehow find out the reason behind her sudden distance from you?"
opening his eyes, gojo twists to face his kouhai, ready to interrupt him, but stops at the earnestness in his gaze. "turning into a recluse or moping around isn't gonna solve anything, senpai. it's been more than a month since then and from what little i've seen, i can say it's eating the both of you alive. you, way more than her. so, go, speak with her," he urges him with a smile, "the others are not very well at showing their emotions but trust me when i say, we all are worried for you both, senpai."
the white-haired boy drags his gaze away from the speaker. suguru gives him a smile, shoko pokes him in the cheek again, nanami offers a fleeting impression of something smiley before looking away with a grimace.
gojo's eyes flit back to the encouraging boy before.
"okay," the upperclassman relents with a sigh, which instantly grows into a frown the moment every piece clicks into place in his mind and the goggles-wearing boy swears his heart skips a beat, "but what did you say about seeing shortie and know-"
stopping in the middle of the question, the boy stiffens.
three glasses shatter on impact with the floor, freed from the waiter's grasp, soon followed by two maids screeching your name in the most terror-struck voice ever manageable. gojo's six eyes provide him with enough details as always; albeit it seems miles from enough now, the way it always is in your case, further deepening the sorcerer's need to physically see you once; to soak in the brilliance of your gaze and the sweetness of the curve of your lips once.
who knows if he'll ever see you again from as close as- okay, no, wait-
"did you just run all the way here-"
"i love you."
"-in your heels?"
everything falls silent the moment the last word leaves gojo's lips and a shuddered breath escapes him into the bittersweet fragrance of the citrus perfume he remembers you using. in a lilac dress with a messy hairstyle and diamond studs, the youngest and newest leader of your clan stands before him, cheeks stretched in a wide grin.
whirling his seat round completely, the boy gives you one long look, only to earn a hauntingly soft look in return.
you smile.
"i know you might see me as the most inconsistent, lying, crazy bitch at best or as the most opportunistic bitch ever, trying to seduce you, for lack of a better term, to satisfy her craving for power, at worst; but no matter how you see me, how others see me, how i see myself - i'm in love with you, that's one thing which won't change no matter what."
you pause.
and as he watches you catch your breath after that long as hell sentence para, the first realisation which crashes on gojo's otherwise numb brain is: you too haven't changed.
not. one. bit.
from the way you stick to your minimal makeup look; to the way you speak sans any break and curse yourself as you confess to something (you think you did) wrong; to the way your gaze remains fixed on him, acutely trained on even the mildest twitch of his facial muscles... one whole month has passed since that stormy evening yet you're still the same you.
a little sweet. a little sour. a whole lot perfect-
who loves him-
who loves him-
you. love. him. too.
for the first time in an apparent eternity, gojo feels his lips lift in a free smile. although the chuckle leaving him sounds laden with moisture and emotions.
"i'll die before calling you a seductress, shortie," the boy says, "you're way too dumb and naive for that." your eyes move to the girl drinking beside him for a second, before settling back on him, a light sheen in them. smile widening yet growing a tender quality, he goes on to say, "and i know you aren't a liar; but regarding the inconsistent claim... i think an explanation's long overdue, isn't it?"
you huff a mild chuckle. stuffing your hands into your dress pockets, your senpai watches you draw in a long breath before letting it out in a whoosh, a tiny smile nestling in the corner of your lips. you begin.
"you know, right, my eldest brother was the clan leader before me? y'know, after my father just decided, one fine day, he's growing old and so he wants to retire somewhere peaceful now, with my mom, leaving me in the care of takeshi nii-chan and his wife?"
four pairs of eyes switch to him in silent query. ignoring them, gojo nods. it isn't everyday you speak so openly of your family, especially this topic concerning them.
considering how painful and sore it is for you.
how big of an escapist your father is.
how big of an asshole your brother is.
how utterly difficult it is for you to navigate in this household daily.
your sigh interrupting his thoughts, he hears you continue, "well, all was going well until it was not; and i decided i'd already spent too much time being a spectator to my life and future keeping getting kicked around like a fucking soccer ball."
few gasps sound in the vicinity, undoubtedly at you cussing. nanami's smooth voice cuts in through their shocked surprise, and through the bubble, gojo was under the impression, he and you had slipped into.
judging from the tiny start you give, the white-haired boy surmises you too must have felt the same.
your classmate's solemn voice sounds in the hush, though traces of a hesitation can still be found in it when he asks, "they... didn't arrange a wedding for you in the month you were here... did they?"
"they did," you're quick to answer, voice growing a steely quality, "the higher-ups and my brother decided to get me engaged to-"
"to whom?"
gojo's lips quirk up at the way you roll your eyes at suguru's impatient question, then look at him, a tired smile creeping onto your features. but, hey! is that a tinge of shyness on your face that the boy can see?
you point your chin at him. "to 'toru, who else?"
the second (or maybe, the third) bout of silence would have followed this statement of yours too - if not for the cackling girl beside gojo. the latter makes no effort to conceal his irritation, shooting the most vicious glare ever; shoko simply raises her glass, as if in a toast, then tosses you a smirk.
"you love him, still you don't wanna get hitched with him? not very clever of you, yeah?"
"yeah," haibara chips in, albeit much less teasing and more a worried timbre than shoko, the shades-wearing boy deems. the other student continues, brows creasing together, "plus, i doubt gojo senpai saying no to the proposal. so, why didn't you go ahead with it?"
your head tilts to one side. your lips twitch in a knowing fashion.
"you just said the reasons yourself, yu-kun."
years later, if someone asks gojo when's the time he realised he's in love with you, too deep and too far gone to ever consider anyone but you by his side, as his other and undoubtedly better half, the sorcerer will grin the goofiest grin ever and sigh the dreamiest sigh ever, and say, "every day."
which is the truth, really-
yet, from those 'every day'-s, there exist few such days, whom the six-eyes user's brain subconsciously frames in a golden frame and places on a dust-free pedestal.
for instance, today.
a day your senpai dreaded to begin by leaving the comfort of his bed, knowing the person whose ascension to the metaphorical throne he has been invited to witness today, blood chilling and condensing into tears on his lashes as memories from long ago and not-so-long-ago hurtle into his brain.
only to morph, by evening, into the day the boy realises: love isn't just what made him switch his infinity off and pull you under him, a shield to protect you from the crumbling roof, forgetting everything except your safety and life; but love is also what made you push him and the emotions within yourself away.
forgetting everything - the boy knows from knowing you these many years - except your very evident aim of shielding him from the vicious schemes of those responsible for this damned jujutsu hierarchy.
no matter how easy and rewarding the other path would've been for you.
no matter how difficult and painful this current path must've been for you.
just 'cause you love him.
just 'cause you know, at the end of it all, he's going to be safe, away from the manipulating hands of the higher-ups - away from even the slimmest chance of experiencing a shred of the ordeals you suffered as a child, losing your free will and living as a mere puppet, subject to those old geezers' whims and fancies.
the two of you are not-too-near to the threshold of adulthood; still, through those unsure lenses of transition between immaturity and maturity, gojo feels sure this very moment that his eyes are viewing now - of watching his feelings being reciprocated not only in words (which, he knows, are true; your body language is as familiar to him as the back of his hand) but also in actions - so pure, so selfless, so utterly... loving-
the boy reckons his six eyes have never landed on a sight so ethereal and just so good, that it makes his heart want to burst right out of his chest.
drinking in the way you're regarding him, fingers fidgeting and teeth gnawing on your lower lip, gojo cracks a smile.
your restlessness abates a little.
"you became the clan leader just to make sure this story remains ours and only ours, didn't you?"
you take a moment before answering with a big nod.
"yeah," you say, "but that doesn't mean you need to be grateful to me or anything of the sort. you can give me any answer you want to give. you can also give me no answer, now or ever, if that's what you really want to do. just know that i love you, and that your answer can never really put a dent in it, no matter what it is."
"no matter what it is?" your senpai echoes your words back to you. a small nod is what you send in reply; yet it seems to be more than the quantity of oil required to set the cogs of gojo's brain whirring to life and mischief. eyes narrowing, he asks, "not even if my response is an 'i love you too, shortie', hm?"
the clock in the room ticks thrice.
two known voices mutter curses behind him.
five maids of yours scurry out the door, whispering excitedly.
you narrow your eyes back at him.
"i asked you to not feel pressured, didn't i? tell me what you want to say, 'toru," you say; his name in your mouth sounds sweeter than the sweetest mochi the boy's ever tasted, "and not those stuff you think i want to hear you say."
your statement draws an amused chortle from gojo. "did you really forget what i told you last that day, shortie? or did you not again not understand what i was telling you then?"
"what's there to not understand in that!?" your indignant reply arrives without missing a beat, "you said you've always seen me as way more than a childhood friend: true 'cause we're best friends. then- oh yeah," with a click of your fingers, you add, face steeped in contemplation, "you also said- oh."
"yep, oh," gojo nods his head in an exaggerated fashion, revelling in the way you're looking at him right now, eyes round as saucers and cheeks ruddy as the expensive wine being served now.
you still seem so beautiful to him.
it takes a pinch more than a while before you breathe out a breathless giggle. straightening in his seat, gojo feels his cheeks hurt a bit from the wide smile digging indents into them.
"you really lo-"
"ma'am, the guests for the evening party will be here very soon. you should get ready now," one of your maids interrupts you. the sorcerer feels his smile shrivel a little. you're barely back with him; yet you'll be stolen away from him-
"aw, is it so?" your entertained query cuts in through his thoughts. the boy looks up from his shoes his gaze had moved to before, to you, an awfully fake apologetic smile lighting up your face.
gods, why do you look so fucking kissable when you're like this?
"you know what, the people invited aren't really the kind i want to talk to and ruin my mood. besides, i've already met 'my' guests, so..." the boy watches you inch closer to him slowly as you trail off; your maid's eyes narrow before widening. you grin. "toodles, mrs. matsui!"
that and the salute you throw at everyone in the room are the last two memories clear in gojo's mind, before everything turns into a mush of everything yet nothing in the end.
well, barring a few exceptions, of course.
your contagious chortles, for instance, while you both dash down the hallways of your mansion; or your delighted gasp when he wraps his arms round you and warps to that patisserie in nikko; or your million-watt-bright beam to him, as you slap the latter's sneaky hands away from stealing a bite from your plate, whilst the latter declares this to be where you two will celebrate the future milestones; or the-
"ieiri senpai was right, y'know?" your tired voice cuts in through your senpai's rather-muddled recollections. the latter tears his gaze away from the inky-black night sky dotted by the twinkling lights of tokyo, to your drowsy form resting her head on his chest, his one arm tight around your shoulders, while the other rests behind his head on the cold hood of the car.
moving to brush the strands of hair away from your forehead, the boy presses a kiss to the tip of your nose, earning a sweet kiss to his chin in return, and hums, "not really the person i wanna chat about right now with my girlfriend..." you suddenly twist your body towards him, throwing an arm over his stomach and nuzzling into his neck; making a mental note to address you as that more often, he sighs. "but carry on, i guess. you won't be you if you can't gush about that damn shoko every third sentence or something."
planting your lips to his jaw for a mere second, gojo watches you pull away an inch from him, grinning. "senpai said you'll be the first one to confess but i'll be the one who makes things official and public and all that shit," you explain, then gasp, grin turning wider.
"oh my god," you mutter, "geto senpai and iori senpai are gonna lose so much money to her. them two never thought you could ever say 'i love you' to me, did you know that? oh my god... i kind of feel bad for those two."
the gleeful expression you're wearing tells your boyfriend otherwise - choosing to ignore it, he throws you a smirk. "well, i don't. those two people shouldn't have doubted me. i'm the one and only gojo satoru," he proclaims, puffing his chest out a bit, "of course, I'll be successful in my mission of getting you to notice my love for you."
"nah, i don't think so," you shake your head the very next instant. lips into the most adoring curve he's ever seen on you - something which steals his retort away from him and makes him want to pinch his arm hard, to see if he's dreaming or not - you hum.
"you could confess your love to me, not 'cause you're gojo satoru. but because you're my 'toru and i'm your shortie... isn't it so?"
gojo thinks back to the time utilised in carefully drafting and finalizing the steps via which he can catch your eye, only to watch them not go the way planned.
gojo looks back to you, only to find your eyes trained on him, glitters of love in them unbelievably similar to those loud crackers bursting in his chest right now.
the young sorcerer runs a reverent finger down the side of your face.
"yeah, it is because you're my shortie and i'm your 'toru, sweetness," he whispers, "and we'll always stay this way, yeah?"
you reply by engraving the shape of your smile into his.

Rules: Let your ocs answer the questions below
Because they're metaphysically inseparable, let's answer for Rel and Redacted. For context, Rel is an angel created to defend Redacted, the former god of wonder, in his dying moments. Rel failed to do this and was cast to the world below by Redacted's murderer. Redacted is now bound to Rel as a ghost, however, Rel cannot hear or interact with Redacted in any way. With that convoluted explanation out of the way, let's get cracking!
Are you named after anyone?
Rel: "I made my own name, actually! I like the way it rumbles on my tongue."
Redacted: "False, you took half of my name, kid. My name which was erased by my bitch cousin. See, look ~~~~~~. ~~~~~~! Fucking nothing. At least you remember part of it, even if you don't remember who it belongs to."
When was the last time you cried?
Rel: "My eyes were all wet when I woke up yesterday morning. Esie said I must've had a nightmare. I... don't know what that is, but it sounds scary."
Redacted: "I don't have eyes. I guess I had three when I was alive, but those were mostly just for show, you know? Most of when a god breathes or cries or laughs is just for human benefit. Your teeny little brains don't like us in our true forms, so we gotta... translate a little."
Do you have kids?
Rel: "Those are the tiny ones, right? No, I don't, but they seem cute! Esie says Jean, Shay, and I are like her kids sometimes. Then she usually goes outside for a smoke."
Redacted: "Kids? The closest thing I have to one is talking to you right now. I don't usually make angels - never more than one at a time. Other gods have whole hosts and stuff to do their dirty work, but I've always preferred to keep a more personal relationship with mine. Except I can't really do that with Rel as I am now...."
Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Rel: "I want to! It's very funny, I've been told. I just have to figure out why that is exactly."
Redacted: "Take a wild fucking guess."
What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Rel: "There's just too much. I notice their eyes and their clothes and their smile and their shoes. The first thing I try to learn, though, is their name."
Redacted: "I don't know, probably their surface thoughts? I can't see into the depths of anyone's minds or anything - if a god tells you they can, they're bullshitting you - but surface thoughts are pretty noticeable. Most people are a lot hornier than you'd imagine."
What’s your eye color?
Rel: "A dark gold, like brass doorknobs. I only have one eye, though. If I had another, I'd want it to be blue."
Redacted: "The bottom two were blue. The one on my forehead was gold."
Scary movies or happy endings?
Rel: "I don't know. I haven't seen any plays yet. Happier seems like it would be better, though."
Redacted: "Either depend on how well they're pulled off. A happy ending can fall flat if there's no substance in it - if it feels like a consolation prize that doesn't fit the character or story. Tragic endings fall into the same pitfalls. If something's tragic for only the sake of being tragic, then why do I have any reason to be invested? Examples of each can be found-"
Any special talents?
Rel: "My friends say I'm very good at runes. It's just like reading, though, so I'm not sure why they keep telling me I'd need decades of training to be able to know what they say. I'm also a great drummer! Jean says my solos 'fuck nasty style.'"
Redacted: "I'm a god. Other than that, jigsaw puzzles."
Where were you born?
Rel: "...It tasted like blood, that's all I remember."
Redacted: "Yeah, we're not getting into that."
Do you have any pets?
Rel: "Ugh, I wish.... Esie says rats aren't pets, but why are they so cute if they aren't?"
Redacted: "...Does humanity count? You guys are pretty entertaining sometimes."
What sort of sports do you play?
Rel: "What's a sport?"
Redacted: "Yes, beach volleyball! ...Dumbass, I don't have a body, and even if I did, why the hell would I use it to run around and get all sweaty?"
How tall are you?
Rel: "6'0" but my leg is a little crooked, so probably more like 5'10", but I'm also usually wearing my platform boots, so I'll go with 6'3"."
Redacted: "...I'm over this shit."
What was your favorite subject in school?
Rel: "I hope I can go to school someday. I bet I'd love learning proper mechanics and stuff. Oh, and music! And probably science too."
Redacted: "Tell you what, my favorite subject to see Rel try his hand at would be literature. Knowing him, all those stories are going to fill his head like nothing else."
What is your dream job?
Rel: "I really like what I'm doing now. Being in Jean's band, tinkering for my neighbors.... What else is there?"
Redacted: "Well, being a god again is kind of a lost option. Without that, I guess just being there for Rel. I wish I could talk to him. I wish I could be a real parent for him."
Ah, unrequited parental love.... I'll tag @wyked-original-writing @leahnardo-da-veggie @quillswriting @finickyfelix @mysticstarlightduck and anyone else who wants in :)

I have really enjoyed your thoughtful post about how big an idiot Jim Morrison is. In the good way. Theres a lot of debth to his life story, or the Jim Morrison myth. A perspective i think is overlooked in your considerations is the way he imitated the french modern poets like Rimbaud, and especially Baudelaire. I think - maybe through a fallacious mental connection - he imitated these poet so to be taken more seriously. He wanted his poetry to be stane-alone. Well all he ended up was, like Baudelaire, dead by drugs in Paris.
I am SO glad you brought up jim’s poetry. completely unironically he’s my favorite poet, and I am very picky. I love the way he writes in sort of....loosely connected ideas and aphorisms, and clearly he has an expert handle on the use of symbolism to evoke sensory experiences. my basis of comparison for him has so far mostly been the beat poets, and from a philosophical angle obviously nietzsche. clearly he draws a lot of inspiration from both, and imo effectively (but I'm no poetry expert). I've been trying to get into rimbaud more, but I haven't found an english translation I'm super satisfied with yet. if you have a recommendation let me know!
I genuinely think that you can't reach an understanding of jim if you haven't read his poetry. If all you heard about him was his penchant for jumping out of windows or getting so drunk that mace didn't work on him you'd have such a different mental image of him. but once you actually have a window into his mind, I think you can especially see how unified his worldview is – his desire to test boundaries, disrupt order, create new sensations. no wonder he was such an agent of chaos in real life. jim is an idiot because he's not an idiot. that's why I tend to make light of his behavior and even his death. it's sort of out of respect.... like, I'm not going to condescend you by treating you like you didn't understand what was happening
this particular poem of his always comes to mind for me when thinking about this. I think it tells you all that needs to be said:

Kaiju Weeks in Review (September 10-30, 2023)
Tumblr media
I adore Godzilla Final Wars, but it's a movie with an identity crisis, unsure whether it wants to be headlining a Toho Champion Festival or mesmerizing American teenagers at a mid-aughts multiplex. @spacehunter-m's Final Wars 2004: The Year We Make Corn-Tack gives it a strong tug in the first direction, whittling the runtime down to 77 minutes and replacing most of the music and sound effects. She was inspired by Space Warriors 2000, of all things; as she put it, both films are "largely comprised of nonstop, monotonous action." As in that bizarro Ultraman compilation film, the kaiju trash-talk each other. It makes you wonder why Ryuhei Kitamura didn't at least bring back the speech bubbles from Godzilla vs. Gigan. Kaiju fan edits are rare, and this is in a class all by itself. Download it here.
Tumblr media
Shigeru Kayama's novelizations of Godzilla (1954) and Godzilla Raids Again are out—hopefully the first of many to come. My copy only arrived on Saturday, so I haven't had the chance to read the whole thing yet, but I've made it through Godzilla. It's interesting to see Kayama, who wrote the initial treatment, take another swing at the story after the film was finished. He puts back moments like Godzilla eating a cow and attacking a lighthouse, and is also more overt with the wartime allusions. There's an incredible moment where Dr. Yamane muses that studying Godzilla and learning his secrets could be Japan's way of redeeming itself after "caus[ing] a great deal of trouble to people throughout the world." Note that these are novella-length, so much less in-depth than the novelizations of American Godzilla films you might be used to (Godzilla Raids Again is less than 80 pages). The book ends with an afterword by translator Jeffrey Angles contextualizing the tales.
Tumblr media
Godzilla: War for Humanity continues to be a standout IDW miniseries. There's a new and very weird monster in the second issue, plus a no-nonsense Mothra (she tries to recruit Godzilla to fight Zoospora by shooting him in the back of the head and dragging him into the ocean in front of Minilla).
I've also got to mention the solicitation for another Godzilla Rivals installment, due December 20. Nola Pfau is writing, Megan Huang is illustrating.
Jen Onça is not excited to start her new, fast-paced fast-food career at Minilla Burger, but she'd much prefer a mundane day to the sudden return of Megalon! The monster brings destruction, trapping Jen in a forgotten lab deep beneath the restaurant with only the half-built form of Jet Jaguar to help her get out! She must repair the robotic defender to save herself and the city, but first she needs to escape the rubble trapping her in this tense adventure!
Tumblr media
Yuzo the Biggest Battle in Tokyo, Yoshikazu Ishii's follow-up to Attack of the Giant Teacher, has also been picked up by SRS Cinema. No release details yet. I can't really speak to the film either, since it screened at the same time as Yumiko Shaku's panel at G-Fest, but as you can see from the poster, it's set during the pandemic.
Tumblr media
The GAMERA -Rebirth- Gyaos has joined Godzilla Battle Line as an unusual sort of swarm unit. Your first summon of the match calls forth two sub-adults, and by the fifth summon you're sending out two sub-adults and three adults, still for four energy. They're probably the best swarm in the game, though still highly vulnerable to AOE units like Godzilla '01. I'm having fun with them in the Challenge Battles.
Tumblr media
Notzilla, one of the sharpest kaiju comedies out there, is unexpectedly getting the graphic novel treatment. Mitch Teemley is adapting his own screenplay, with art by Zumart Putra. The comic is already finished, although I'm not clear on how folks who didn't back the Kickstarter (which wrapped on September 11) will get it. Useless trivia: the terrific cover above (one of four) is by Ben Dunn, who wrote the How to Draw Manga book I poured over in middle school.
Tumblr media
After Troll shattered Netflix streaming records (according to Netflix), it's not super surprising that the company wants a sequel. Priority one: coming up with a title that's not Troll 2. Screenwriter Espen Aukan and director Roar Uthaug will both return.
Tumblr media
Toy highlights of the past few weeks:
After confusing everyone by teasing its silhouette the day before April Fools', Tamashii has fully unveiled an S.H.Monsterarts Godzilla '72, a rare Showa figure from the line. It comes with two heads, one of them bloodied (see above). Due at the end of February.
After finally running out of ways to repaint their mold of Hedorah's Perfect Stage, Bandai is making a Movie Monster Series figure of the kaiju's Landing Stage. A Godzilla Store exclusive, it'll be released October 25.
After over two years, Funko is releasing a trio of Godzilla Singular Point Pops. Hopefully they go all-out with this show—it's not like there's any other plausible way for a Satomi Kanahara figure to exist.

Fanfic writer interview
Thank you dear @sotwk for the tag, this was so much fun <3
(I have unfortunately lost most of my previous Tumblr mentions so if anyone's tagged me in something and I haven't done it, I'm sorry - I love getting tagged I'm just very slow!)
How many works do you have on AO3? 29
What's your total AO3 word count? 108,178
Your top 5 stories by kudos/likes:
Let Love Conquer Your Mind (Broadchurch)
Chocolate Cake (Downton Abbey)
Rocket Science (Stranger Things)
Castles (Stranger Things)
Puzzles (Resident Alien)
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes! It's lovely to talk to people who enjoyed something I wrote <3
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending? Voices at the Door (Endeavour), though I still consider that a happy ending.
What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending? Most of them have a very happy ending but I want to mention Mirror (Endeavour), since it gave a happy ending to two characters who didn't really get one in canon.
Do you write crossovers? I've written a The Librarians fic featuring a character from Terry Pratchett's Discworld and an Endeavour at Hogwarts fic, but they're not posted anywhere. Oh and an Endeavour in Discworld drabble.
Have you ever received hate on a fic? Thankfully no!
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Nope!
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Sort of. It's made me wonder whether I should even post things I care a lot about. Still don't really have an answer to that, so until I do guess I'll keep posting them.
Have you ever had a fic translated? This will probably sound super weird but as a translator IRL I would absolutely hate this lol! I have been asked before and I hope I managed to refuse in a kind way, it was so lovely to be asked. But just no, especially in this age of AI.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? Nope!
What's your all-time favorite ship? Really have no idea, I've never been that much of a shipper. One of my oldest ships is Usagi/Mamoru from Sailor Moon though <3
What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will? All the ones I want to finish I still hope to finish someday.
What are your writing strengths? Dialogue and characterization and emotion and vividness and relationships. (Wow does that sound confident lol, don't know how true it is but that's what I enjoy when I read my stuff)
What are your writing weaknesses? I get hung up on parts that don't work or try very hard to fix them instead of just deleting them or changing them up completely (slowly learning to do this). I'm not too good with tenses and prepositions and sometimes I mix up words and use language in a weird way. Sometimes I'm lazy. Not good at including the boring but necessary stuff and making it not boring so I probably leave too much out and things get confusing.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? Very subjective answer but I only like it if it's languages I at least somewhat know because then it's like a puzzle for me to figure out what is said. I probably wouldn't do it in my own fics.
What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to? Would love to write something for Gilmore Girls!
What's your favorite fic you've written? Gifts of the Water (Lord of the Rings) is very special to me.
Tagging @dangerously-human @astridcontramundum @to-be-frank-i-dont-care @konartiste in case you feel like doing this <3

Then I guess you're a better person than me, Gojo!!
Because I hate Gege Akutami and I'm *very* angry on your behalf 😃 I’m (sort of) kidding but damn... thoughts on 236 below the cut!!
I held off posting earlier because I felt like going scorched earth on everything jjk. I took some time to clear up some of the translations I wasn't sure about and let the reality sink in, and now I'm ready to talk about this chapter rationally lol.
Firstly, I wanna say that my issue with this chapter isn’t Gojo dying or even the way that he died. I always knew that Gojo dying was likely, but here?? Now???? I've spent all day turning it over in my mind and trying to make it work, but it just won't.
I think Gojo's 'delusion' (daydream? afterlife?) is really beautiful in isolation. Some of the dialogue is really touching and I think it'll benefit from the emotional impact delivered by the full translations. The problem is what follows.
After 235, people were nervous that Gojo hadn't actually won yet. I waited to see what some trusted translators thought of the editor's comment before deciding it was a conclusive win for Gojo, and what I read reassured me that the win would remain intact even if he died at some point over the course of December 24.
In the past couple of chapters, we were told that Sukuna was 'nervous' for the first time in 1000 years and he thought Hollow Purple at close range would be fatal. At the end of 235, Sukuna is looking pretty terrible while Gojo looks fresh as a daisy after fighting in inspiring, inventive ways throughout.
So to find out that, actually, he *hasn't* won and he's been killed by getting cut in half offscreen feels like shock value for the sake of shock value. There have been a few 'shock factor' moments during this fight and they've always bothered me a little, but I could excuse them for the sake of hype building in a weekly manga. However, I never anticipated anything on this level and I'm genuinely so disappointed.
I think this long-awaited fight ending this way cheapens Gojo's character *and* Sukuna's character (and Kashimo's character for that matter!), and ultimately makes the entire thing feel meaningless. 'Meaning' is the thread that has run through Gojo's entire arc, tying him back to Suguru as he sought to build a better world. I always felt certain that Gojo's life and death would have meaning, even if it ended tragically, but I just can't find the meaning in this. I think I understand what Gege was trying to do, but he really didn't sell it for me.
There’s nothing worse than when a story makes you feel stupid for getting invested, and that’s how I’m feeling right now. I find myself wondering, what was the point in bringing Gojo back at all??? Keep him in the box and very little changes in the story, unless it transpires that Gojo 'weakening' Sukuna for the students was his grand purpose after all which... really??
Even worse, I *always* said if it was between Gojo and the students, I wanted Gojo to die. Since 212, getting Megumi back has been my number one priority, but 236 has achieved what I previously thought impossible. I literally don't even want Megumi to come back anymore, because I just can't imagine how he could live with himself after 'killing' Tsumiki and Gojo. It seems kinder for him to die with Sukuna and I *never* thought I would say that.
I'm feeling like a real clown for the meta I posted after 235. I want to take it down because I was so certain that Gojo had won, but I won't because I don't believe my reading of Gojo's character was wrong. I just think my expectations were too high, even though I tried hard to temper them. Even so, telling Megumi about Toji being left to Shoko? Gojo losing and leaving his students to clean up the mess again?? Gojo not even *mentioning* his students in his dying daydream???
It all just feels wrong. Gojo has been turned into nothing more than a plot device at the absolute last second, and maybe it's on me for ever expecting that he would be anything more than that in a series where he isn't the main character, but why bother writing Hidden Inventory then? Why bother getting us invested in this man's story at all?
Right now, I'm feeling like I don't even want to watch tomorrow's episode, but I am interested to see whether Gege can pull this arc off in the long term. I've seen people talking about resurrection theories because of the enlightenment hints and, while I do see the vision, I think Gojo's acceptance of his death and letting go of his regrets can also be read as enlightenment as he escapes the mortal coil once and for all.
Gojo's dying bloody smile shows he's at least happy in his final moments, so my feeling is that Gojo is truly dead and gone. I really want to trust that Gege will make this work, but damn. This is a tragedy.
(Although, if Gojo actually is at peace in death, maybe that's the reason Gege will bring him back. He'll *never* let that man be happy, I swear.)
To end on a positive note, the SatoSugu crumbs were beautiful and teenage Gojo's facial expressions were wonderful. I'm crying again just thinking about the contrast of that last adorable smile with his blank expression on the next page.
I'm dropping all my canonverse WIPs and working exclusively on AU fics for the foreseeable future 😤 I'm gonna give Gojo all the happy endings he deserves!!!
(fuck. poor poor shoko.)

Actually, something I've been thinking about since I read the timeline convos for the first time is the way Amane treats Yuno and Fuuta.
It stuck out to me since Amane is noticeably hostile towards Shidou and Mahiru for violating cult doctrine (which is even more interesting now considering Amane thinks Mahiru would be a good family member.)
Yet Yuno and Fuuta aren't treated with the same outright hostility. Even though Yuno is helping out Mahiru and Shidou, her interaction with Amane is overall amicable, even accounting for Amane's hostility at the start. (Translation Source)
23/06/27 (Amane’s Birthday)
Amane: What is it…… Kashiki Yuno. Don’t sit so close to me. Go away. Yuno: Sorry for barging in when you’re getting into your worldview thing. But Mahiru-san’s finally managed to get to sleep. Humour me with some small talk while I take a break. By the way, Amane. Have you ever wished you were never born? I’ve thankfully lived a pretty fun life so far, so haven’t really. But you seem to be struggling with something. So I kinda wondered if you thought like that. Amane: ……I don’t think that. Being born into this world is the first miracle any person experiences, and is something to celebrate. Even if after birth I was put through trial after trial, the value of that will never disappear. Yuno: Hmm. Ok. ……happy birthday, then. It’s good that you were brought into the world, I guess.
Yuno even Mentions helping out Mahiru, and yet Amane answers her question honestly and politely.
And Fuuta is getting treated by Shidou at this very moment, yet Amane doesn't act hostile, and she views Fuuta as "capable of being reborn."
23/04/19 (Fuuta’s Birthday)
Fuuta: ……! Oi, is it just you. Don’t scare me like that. You shouldn’t just stand there saying nothing. Hah, what? Did you just come to laugh at me for being weak? Dumb brat. Amane: No. I just came to observe. To see what people are thinking. To see who is being corrupted. What about you, Kajiyama Futa? Fuuta: I understand even less of what you’re saying than I did before. Brat, you’re on the side who weren’t forgiven too, right? ……so why can you still stand. Don’t you can hear it too? The voices blaming us. ……I don’t have the energy to do anything like this. Amane: It goes without saying. Because there’s something far more important than the voices of people we can’t even see. People are able to get back up again. As long as there’s something to guide them. Kajiyama Fuuta, by coincidence today happens to be your birthday, correct? Don’t you think it’s a good opportunity to be reborn? If, right now, you could shake off those around you trying to drag you down to depravity, and could change––
Yuno actually notes in her T1 Interrogation that "Amane looks down on Fuuta"
T1 Q26:
Q: Did something interesting happen lately in MILGRAM? A: It was discovered that Mahiru's quite out of sorts. Amane looks down on Fuuta.
But...what did Amane say love was again?
T2 Q9:
Q: What does love mean to you A: To spread mercy with no limits
Which completely recontextualizes all of this, it's possible that Amane is acting this way Because this is how she's showing her love, in a sense.
Amane is showing them mercy, patience, all the things she wasn't given. She's answers them politely, she believes Fuuta can "get better" she doesn't act hostile because Amane, to some extent, cares about them.
And there is precedence for Amane liking Yuno.
T1 Q10:
Q: Is there any prisoner you're close with? A: If I were to say, I guess it would be Yuno and Mahiru.
Again this begs the question of why she acts hostile towards Mahiru but considering I'm pretty sure Mahiru and Shidou are paralleled with Amane's parents and she didn't like both of them much it's possible that this association is what causes her to act more hostile. She's reminded too much of people who hurt her and thus acts more hostile.

Hello! I Just wanted to let you know that I LOVED the published ver. of "Don't Shoot the Messenger". And I was so excited to hear that Dale and Sana's story might get published too.
At first I was really unsure about getting the book, as I didn't want to be disappointed if the changes made didn't translate well compared to the original. BUT YOU KNOCKED MY EXPECTATIONS RIGHT OUT OF THE WATER!! IT WAS SO GOOD!!
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I'm so excited for your future projects. And I wish you luck on your future publishing endeavours because I will be buying all future published books by you. And no one can stop me haha >:D
I also wanted to ask if there's a chance that any of your other previous works will also be published? Of course it's a huge effort of time and resources to publish something. But I do hold out hope that I might one day hold Heshi's story in my hands because truthfully it's such a comfort to me and I go back to it periodically to reread. I love that snakey boi. NO PRESSURE THO. If that's not in the cards, just the fact that it exists as a story is wonderful. Thank you so much for all the writing you do.
anyway, bye
@annjo-wolfe
hi! thanks so much! i really liked what DSM actually was and focused on my own edits and that of my editors just honing it to be the best version of itself - so i'm glad that came through and you liked it!
if ur interested in too much info about my self-publishing plans, pls see under the read more
Dale and Sana's story definitely will be self-published,its just a matter of when. it's also probably gonna get more tweaks than DSM due to the length and the way the story evolved over 2 years lol
thank you so much for your support and encouragement with publishing! i'm so happy people are excited about actually buying my stories lol
As for previous short stories that getting published, the answer is yes, i do have plans to publish them as well, they're just a lower priority for multiple reasons. firstly, me and everyone wants NWWD the most so its #1.
For 'Finally Woken' i actually already have the first 2 chapters converted to 3rd POV, however, its shorter than DSM and so would cost nearly as much to have edited but would sell for less (and amazon will try to tell me the spine is too narrow lol) so my current thoughts are to bundle it with 'Selfish' (helpfully already in 3rd person) and make a Naga Novella (called like 'Tangled Up in Tails' or something lol) with both of them in it so i can release it priced similarly to DSM.
For 'Sacrifice', i actually have plans to make that a 5 novella series about different forgotten deities returning to the same town, with 'Sacrifice' likely being offered as a cheaper, first book about a month or so before the second is published to get people into the series. the rest of the novellas would likely not go up on tumblr/AO3 at all and would only be published. i'd like to use this hypothetical series to see how that sort of model would work for me. i've planned out the 5 novellas to some extent but nothings really written yet besides 'Sacrifice'. as a complete project, its very low on my list after everything i'll b posting here and NWWD publishing, so since 'Sacrifice' is tied to that, its not likely to get published anytime soon.
For 'Snapped', i'd likely do something similar to 'Finally Woken' - write another short Sci-Fi/Alien story and bundle them together for publishing. However, i dont currently have anything written that would work so that's also a low priority evn if 'Snapped' is already 3rd POV.
I'm really excited to self-publish my work, but its expensive and what I've made from DSM has come nowhere close to covering my costs and likely won't. the only good thing is basically all the costs are up-front so its easy to jsut keep the books out there and making money when ppl buy it. i have a good job and am happy to spend my money to get my work out there and hope over time self-publishing will break-even, but that will take years at a minimum so it'll be slow going in the beginning.
my goal is to get everything self-published so it'll just be a matter of time - i too want to hold a copy of Heshi's story in my hands lol
thank you for all your support and giving me a chance to ramble about all my self-publishing plans!

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Thank you for the tag @tackytigerfic (here) and @maesterchill (here). Emerging from my post illness hidey hole.
How many works do you have on ao3?
32, a number that both seems too large and smaller than I thought
2. what's your total ao3 word count?
254,835. Wild.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Mostly HP, although once in a while I peek over at other fandoms. And I have a joint Check Please fic in the works.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
All Drarry. None really surprised me but the final one, I hadn't realized it climbed that far up the kudos. Huh. 1. Yours Truly - my romcom fic about Harry feeling left out when everyone's coupled up, telling a lie that gets out of control, and also how hot magical ecology is 2. Home Truths - my Quidditch fic about the complications of fame, love of the game, Harry finding out who his family was and letting himself fall in love 3. Special Affinity - how quickly one can justify fucking one's coworker given a bonding spell while having no idea if the feelings part is reciprocal 4. Winner Takes It All - Draco feeling caught in impossible circumstances, working too much, caregiving for a parent, and how small kindnesses can mean the world 5. A Little Time - mistaken for a couple, forced proximity, Healer school, and everyone in a small town hating you and all your friends on sight
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I love responding to comments, but it takes me a while. I read every single one, and I try to wait until I have the time and energy to respond with something thoughtful. I'm months behind at this point.
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I'm a fairly happy ending sort of person. I tend to go more for straight angst for drabbles and micros. Maybe Beside Manner? They're formerly bonded and dealing very badly with the dissolution.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Oh, gosh, most of them. I'm most enamoured by the Big Damn Kiss at the end of Home Truths. I love No Distance because Harry and Draco are very much in love and not able to hide it. I am particularly fond of the end of Winner because I was able to leave Draco in a very good place that felt right for the fic.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not really I think. I get the occasional rude bookmark rating. Once, a very unpleasant person who sent lots of hate for months over a fairly inconsequential aspect of a fic. And then there have been a few comments where it's clear the reader wanted me to write a different fic, which I don't really take that personally. Nice comments far outweight the negative.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Not much. Tender, expressive, evocative. Light on details mostly.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I am not a crossover person.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think anyone has ever tried.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes. Two by the wonderful Bluebubbling which I was thrilled by.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I've always wanted to. I'm trying my hand with another fandom, but one day.
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
Drarry. It just hits different.
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I'm one of those people who has a dozens of ideas. I think I'm unlikely to finish my Veela!Harry fic, I just don't think I have the range. I have yet to successfully write and finish a PWP. Would be thrilled to finish some of my rare pairs.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Hmmm. I think dialogue, efficiency, and atmosphere.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
More complicated or mystery-oriented plots, the mid-level between an ensemble cast and an intimate chamber piece, anything with significant length, spending lots of words on one scene.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
One of my ideas about writing is that not everything has to be maximally accessible to all to be an authentic expression in a fic. If that's what fits or feels right, go for it.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
You know, I found out the answer for sure recently, and I will be keeping that information to myself. Highly embarrassing and yet formative. Let your imagination do the rest.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
Winner Takes It All. Exactly what I intended, turned out beautifully. Some of my favourite writing.
tagging @magpiefngrl @lettersbyelise @lqtraintracks @quicksilvermaid @goblinmatriarch @teledild0nix @boxboxlewis and anyone else who is interested

Got slammed into a fatigue wall so I'm lying in bed and thinking again. :>
I spent a few hours yesterday translating a Skyward Sword fic from English (American) to Portuguese (Brazilian) and I think it turned out okay. (It's probably also half the reason I'm so drained right now but I'm ignoring that.) I swear I have a point I'm trying to make, but it's going to take a few roundabouts to get there.
I've been doing Fic Rec Friday, and I think people like it. I like it, anyway. I've got way too many bookmarks and people keep writing new things, and I think it's fun to look through what I've read during the past month or so and pick something to showcase for the week. I've got a format figured out after a little bit of trial and error and I'm happy with it.
Back to translating. I'm not very good at it because I'm still learning. I haven't taken composition class yet, which is a whole other side tangent, so I'll stop there. But the point is I'm wondering if maybe I should post the links to what I've translated here in a similar format to how I've been posting Fic Rec Friday. I highly doubt many people would read them since there's like... 5 LU fics in total if you put the French and Spanish translations together. And I'm also self-conscious because I'm practically glued to my ENG-POR dictionary at this point. But it's a thought.
Which sort of leads to my next thought being whether or not I should go back to posting the fics I've written here or not. I was posting the Whumptober fics during October but I stopped doing that once the event ended even though I'm still chugging through. I'm definitely doing something to celebrate getting to the end once I finish.
All that to say, I'm not 100% sure what I want to do. I know I want to organize things again (the brain demands it), I'm just not sure if people mind seeing my Ao3 posts of dubious quality. I have more confidence in other people than I do myself, I guess.
Either way, don't feel like you have to give me advice, I just wanted to get my thoughts out there on the topic in case someone else was thinking about the same things. You're always really kind and empathetic and willing to listen to literally anything, too.
PS: I am planning to work on an EAH & LU crossover AU thing once I get myself together.
Okay first of all it’s really cool that ur translating fics. That sounds like a lot of work, but it’s so cool and like damn, good for you dude that’s awesome
Second: I LOVE UR FIC REC FRIDAY, i think we as a fandom should recommend more fics, i love when people share stuff they like and ive found a lot of awesome stuff that way! Plus it’s always fun to talk to people about really good fics :)
If you do decide to post ur fics on here that’d be really cool, I dunno if you mean like whole fics or just ao3 links or a combo of both, but i think that’d be nice to see em. I love opening tumblr and seeing people share their writing, and even if i cant read it right then, i almost always save it to come back to later :)
I’ll always listen to anything people say, and while I may not be the greatest at giving advice, i’ll try my best!! and if anyone else has any thoughts on this im sure they’ll leave a comment of some sorts
(i look forward to the au whenever you get around to it!!)

Saga: Rivals - 14
Writer: Akira
Season: Winter
Characters: Hiyori, Tsumugi, Jun, Sora
Proofreading: moricchiichan (JP) & hyenahunt (ENG)

[Read on my blog for the best viewing experience with Oi~ssu ♪]
Location: Front Gate
Hiyori: Excuuuse me~? It's a wonderful thing to be so close and chummy, but I'll have you know I don't take getting ignored too well, yes?
Tsumugi: Ah, I’m sorry! I’ll take you to the dressing room… Er, a waiting room that will also double as a place for you to practice in, so please come this way~♪
Hiyori: Thank you, that will be a considerable help!
I do have a good grasp of the ins and outs of Yumenosaki as I was once a student here myself, but it certainly seems like Eichi-kun has invested quite a bit in renovating some areas, didn't he~?
It’s strangely unfamiliar in some parts.
Back when we visited for Summer Live, you and student council staff were strategically stationed here and there to block off various pathways… All so we couldn’t wander about so freely, isn't that right?
How rude! Unlike Ibara, you wouldn't catch me sniffing about like some sort of spy, alright?
Tumblr media
Tsumugi: Ah, so you did notice? I’m sorry about that. You see, it seems we had an information leak some time around spring…
Our security became stricter, and we were told not to let students from other schools roam about.
Hiyori: Well, I do suppose that’s an understandable arrangement. I’m sure you have some skeletons you’d rather keep in your closet — not that I’m one to criticise that, as a former member of fine myself… Oh?
Jun: ………

Jun: Ah, Aoba Tsumugi-senpai, from the former fine — good morning to you!
Thanks so much for taking care of Ohii-san and everything else back during Summer Live. We're looking forward to working with you once again!
Tsumugi: Wow, you're just as polite as usual despite your rough appearance.
Hiyori: Heh-heh, all as a result of my excellent training, of course ☆
Well, Jun-kun has always been a strangely civil boy since the day I first met him.
And here he really could afford to be a little more haughty, too~ In order to bestow hope to the people, those who are successful ought to act showy to a certain extent ♪
Tumblr media
Jun: Goddamn. It's because you always run your mouth that I have to play up the politeness in order to balance it out, yeah~?
Well, whatever. It’s freezin' at this time of the year, so we’ve gotta stop standing 'round talking out here and hurry on inside.
Feels like I’m gonna catch a cold any second now. I've been shivering like crazy for a while now, y'know~?
Tsumugi: Whoa, are you feeling alright? I’m so sorry, I’ll take you two inside right away! Please come this way~ Hidaka-sensei should be already here ♪
Hiyori: Ah, so it seems he really has started teaching here as an interim lecturer, hasn't he? Of course, that's the reason we were invited here to begin with..
(…I do wonder just how much of this is all according to his calculations. I'm not a fan of being a pawn for him to use at his convenience.)
Tumblr media
Hiyori: (Well, no matter. After all, facing off against Sagami-sensei should be able to give closure to yet another one of Jun-kun’s concerns…)
(As long as the script tells an enthralling tale, then I shall dance according to it.)
(But if it turns out to be not to my taste, then I'll beleaving. Dear me, I'm really not fond of Hidaka-sensei…)
(It’s not as if he’s gloomy, or unpleasant as a person, but any words you say to him feel like they never quite reach him, and only reflect right off like light on metal.)
Tsumugi: Hiyori-kun? What’s the matter? We should get going~
Hiyori: Ah, yes, I'm coming… Unfortunately, my dislike for winter seems incurable. It's ever so cold and dark — simply the worst.
Tsumugi: Ahaha. Winter just has that image for us in particular, huh?
Oh? Come to think of it — er, Lilith, was it? …Hiyori-kun, shouldn’t your temporary unit have four members?
Sora: That's what Sora heard, too! Ba-barrier is the same way~
Project-Saga units usually have a teacher, a third year, a second year, and a first year… So four members in total!
Tsumugi: Umm… In that case, you should have a first year, right?
Tumblr media
Hiyori: Hmm~ Well, the strange thing is…
Even I have no idea who our last member is. In fact, I heard the boy who was originally meant to join us has already quit our school.

Tsumugi: It really is. Not to mention, due to Sora-kun's involvement I’m not a complete stranger to Ba-barrier, either. So I thought I should try to be of some help…
I also wanted to see you, Hiyori-kun, as it’s been a while.

Yo I saw a post of yours about a sky cotl and twisted Wonderland crossover and I've been writing a fic where I yote some sky kids into NRC and I was wondering if you'd like to chat about stuff like how they'd interact with the world or how people would react to them lol
I figured that everyone would initially assume that they're light Fae until the mirror calls them fallen stars or children if light or something haha
plus them jumping from high up and scaring anyone who might not know about their ability to fly yet (a video of one jumping in front of cameras at the spelldrive tournament and proceeding to glide around while everyone besides the NRC students lose their collective minds becomes a meme or something idk)
Perhaps the rain has some sort of magic properties that makes it interact with the sky kids similarly to how the forest rain works - meaning that the sky kids freak out and try to pull their friends out of the rain because 'GDI BIG MOTH YOU WILL LOSE YOUR LIGHT'
Sorry this got long lmao - I just like Sky and TWST and I like seeking out others who may also enjoy the idea of a crossover haha
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I WOULD LOVE TO TALK TO YOU ABT IT
HAVE SO MANY LITTKE IDEAS THAT HAVE BEEN FLYING AROUND IB MY HEAD
okayokayokay so love all of that- /gen I feel like it’d be funny if sky kids could still only really talk by honking for awhile (or maybe it’s only the littles or smthin lol) and when students try and go in the rain it’s just “HONKHONKHONK” of a younger sky kid freaking out while trying to drag them to not go in the rain like you talked abt
maybe similar to how in the fairy gala they had a translator for the fae-(just thought abt that ahdhh)
But YES LOVE THE THOUGHT OF THEM FLYING DURING THE SPELL DRIVE TOURNAMENT AJSHDHDH can just imagine the amount of collective confusion
Since octavinelle has the ocean domain(?) and all i feel like it could be like how sky kids can go into the ocean and a few water areas without loosing light (could with savanaclaws too)
ANOTHER THING I feel like when one of them see a student pull out a magic pen for the first time their first thought is that it’s just a weird looking candle so they immediately go to become friends and take their candle out “HELLO TALL FRIEND😁” while the students preparing to fight or smthin so it quickly goes to “OH UH NO- WAIT NO FRIEND PLEASE-“
Though I wonder if Lillia and/or malleus would know that the sky kids aren’t light fae and would just go “..well you didn’t ask-“ when the others find out
Cater would be asking to do a little photo shoot with them at some point-can easily imagine that-
Another thing though- so because sky kids can burn darkness could they burn others blot? (Realistically probably not but it’s so much fun to think abt)
..now having the urge to draw these out ajssh
edit: because i managed to forget PLEASE TELL ME WHEN YOU FINISH THE FIC i would love to read it>:D

Seeing your opinions on writing dialogue in other languages in fic was really neat. It seems like you put a lot of thought into how you handle dialogue and it made me curious about how you approach this in A Funny Old World. When Moist meets everyone, is he speaking Japanese? Do you have Morporkian and Japanese as being the same language in this fic or is there something else?
♡___〆(・∀・) What a wonderful question @verdigrispatina !! Thank you for asking!!
It's a little tricky in A Funny Old World because it is a bit of everything. Two things are happening that are true:
Moist is from the Discworld (a world as we know strongly powered by belief. Believe something hard enough and it might just manifest in strange and interesting ways.)
Teruki is hinted at actively reading and dreaming about Discworld books ( I said in my fic notes, I'm working under the assumption Japan was very lucky to have all 41 books translated.)
So what happens when these two very true things happen at the same time? And I've sort of built it off of that.
Moist is able to communicate with Reigen and Teruki not only because his book was translated and Teruki was having strong emotions about the series, but also right from the get go Reigen mistakes Moist as Just Some Guy™ -why wouldn't this average looking guy in Japan not know how to speak Japanese? Even if he looks a little foreign, his face is hard to pin down.
In a future chapter when Reigen and Teruki start questioning this a bit more, especially when the three of them grab ramen together, the pair of them can see how strong their influence on Moist can be with their belief.
In the scene not only has them wondering how it is that Moist can communicate with them, but other small things like a seasoned pro (using chopsticks for example), the more Reigen and Teruki start to agree that, maybe it isn't very realistic that Moist would know how to use chopsticks, the more Moist starts gradually not being able to use them and gets increasingly frustrated because: 'I was managing perfectly before!'
This leads to Moist having his own version of the famous Taako Adventure Zone quote: I have emotions! It’s not all abraca-fuck-you and what have you. I have a beating heart! I’m multi-dimensional! I’m a fully-realized creation! FUCK!
That is to say Moist ends up working over time trying to continuously explain that He's a REAL PERSON!! He has a WIFE WAITING FOR HIM!!!! Cue Moist having to believe in his own existence - it gets very existential haha
And YET that too is the power of belief, if Reigen and Teruki don't believe then Moist has to work EVEN HARDER to believe in himself, and his existence. (There's this really silly, but hopefully powerful scene I want to get to, where Moist and Reigen are out on Reigen's balcony while Reigen smokes, and Moist has a rendition of "I miss my wife, Reigen. I miss her a lot." and the scene slowly becomes more and more sobering. Full of complex emotions, leading Reigen to accept that, yes he might be a character from a book, but Moist is also right in front of him with flesh and able to bleed and cry. What's more real than that?)
After all that number 1 detail that is still very true!! Moist IS REAL, REALLY from the Disc. Specifically a post canon Disc, and paired with that, well, I very much like to head canon Fedecks (the pseudo Hermes of the Disc) never really left Moist after what he did in Going Postal. Moist as a character embodies so naturally all the things that Fedecks (Hermes) represents: thieves, messenger of the gods-and messages in general, psychopomp, watcher of travelers and cross roads.
I have a lot of feelings about Moist and his similarities to Hermes, which I hope to explore further in detail in other works (A Runaway's Gamble is for sure one of those works)
That is to say, I like to think Fedecks borrows in Moist, just in there along for the ride in his fancy silly avatar- delightfully curious as to what he'd do next. And because of that, Moist is, unknowingly, a trans-dimensional trickster god. Very human, can still bleed etc, but certain things will work or not work by, essentially, Bugs Bunny Logic (whether it would be funny, or hilariously not funny) and ye olde narrative convention.
Something Moist unknowingly taps into while trying very hard to believe he is real.
The only character who gets close to figuring the whole piggybacking trickster god thing out is Dimple who tries to possess Moist (multiple times). Only to get jettisoned (or self ejects) out after a harrowing encounters with Fedecks.
All this to say, the answer is Yes!
Morporkian is Japanese, because the Discworld books were translated in Japanese. But also, Morporkian is still Morporkian and Moist has a piggybacking trickster god inside that thinks it'd be boring if Moist couldn't use his words.
I hope this made sense, and that I articulated it well!
♡⸜(*ˊᗜˋ*)⸝♡Thank you so much again for asking!!♡
Best wishes, Nico
