So I was watching the next episode of the animated adaptation of Crossroads on YouTube and noticed something. Now I have no English subtitles to work with for the anime, so I'm only going off of a mix of some Japanese I understand/knowledge of the game story/whatever I can work out by watching. But from what I can see, it seems the anime changed the reason Chiaki was singing on that stage? Again, going off of whatever I could figure out for the anime, it looks like the anime makes it seem like the primary reason Chiaki was singing on that stage was because he was bullied into it by his upperclassmen in Ryuseitai, since it has been stated that Chiaki was bullied by the former Ryuseitai members in the past. Which, once again....

However, reading the version of Crossroads in the original Enstars game, while Chiaki is still bullied by his upperclassmen, the primary reason he sings on stage there is specifically because he's trying to save Eichi.

It makes me curious why the anime (seemingly) changed the motivation behind Chiaki singing on the stage. For the sake of simplifying matters for the adaptation? Possibly wanting to make changes to the story (since I've heard apparently there have been other retcons made for stories from the original game for the sake of newer stories written for the current game)? Maybe not wanting to take so much focus away from Undead or Akatsuki, since Crossroads is primarily their story, not Chiaki's?

I don't know, personally I prefer how the game handled it. Because this is the timid, bullied Chiaki who is still standing up and trying to protect someone even though he's scared, even though he has yet to take on that hero persona of his. I find that MUCH more engaging and interesting for him as a character!

And I think the movies do a good job of portraying it, but of course, the book gives you more insight into Paul's thought processes and his struggle against not only the Harkonnens trying to kill him and the people he loves, but also the religious prophecies the Bene Gesserit put in place thousands of years prior to specifically point to someone like him as a messiah, and the literal drug coursing through his system 24/7 that interacts with his genetic makeup as well as his Bene Gesserit training from Jessica.

I think maybe people who have only seen the movies don't quite grasp that Paul is psychologically and physically changed by the massive amounts of Spice he inhales and consumes once he's away from Arrakeen. It allows him to see (almost) all possible futures and deadens his ability to really feel anything. I've always understood it as like... he sees everyone he knows die thousands of times, or betray him, or come to any number of other fates, and all of that is happening in his mind all the time, overlapping with his actual experiences. So he can't ever be fully present once the Spice changes him more and more because he's always half in these potential futures and seeking the narrow way that will allow him to survive without causing the war.

And he fails. Because literally everything has been stacked against him for thousands of years. I think the only way he might have prevented the war was by killing himself very early on, but that was when he still had hope that he could thread that needle.

so yes that is correct that is what happens. the tragedy is that he is a sixteen year old boy who gets a vision of this happening and he is TERRIFIED and absolutely does not want this to happen at all. He does not want the holy war he does not want to be the chosen one he initially very much wants to fight alongside the fremen as equals trying to liberate themselves from their current colonizer without becoming the messiah because they have common political cause.

And then the entire second half of the first book (and the second movie) are about the concessions he makes to himself bit by bit by bit (well it’s the only way to save his mom and sister. well it’s the only way to prevent nuclear war. well he does want his revenge. well maybe he IS special.) Until by the end he has lost 100% of his humanity, fully wants to be the messiah and is willing to manipulate people into thinking so, and has declared himself duke of arrakis in his father’s name and made a play for the imperial throne.

Paris Valerian but i redesign his dragon form for funsies based on how i see him=. Not sure if I like this design bc im not a fan of bulkier looking dragons but for Paris I think this works??

Some headcanons about this design:

has a bit of a bull-like look bc I associate bulls with persistence and madness and idk that fits Paris well so if Fian has a “fox” motif Paris gets a “bull” one for his dragon form 

His design is based a lot on how a stereotypically evil dragon would look???? Because imo OG!Paris reads as a massive antagonist and I think giving him a look that fits that vibe in his dragon form works!! Especially because he still is an antagonist in a way (though god does he not read that way lmao)

he’s stronger in his dragon form than Fian is and he uses this to his advantage to bully Fian around whenever they playfight as dragons. That said, it seems Paris is surprisingly gentle towards Fian in this form and never hurts him.

he uses this form to intimidate people into getting what he wants. He’s not used to getting retaliated against while in this form and quickly respects anyone who does so (read: Fian, Lyla and Helene)

the silver scales on his body can glow in the same way his eyes do. Typically, he keeps them dull-colored (see above) but if he feels a strong emotion of any sorts they’ll glow brightly without him meaning to (noticeably: they glow constantly whenever Helene is around for obvious reasons~).
