i always always think about that final shot of her, watching El turn around and run away, to go back to her friends and family because they need her, and how heartbroken Kali looks because of it

and you know that ate at her. that moment where El said “no, these people who you are saying are trying to suppress me. they need me. and i need them. i love them. i can’t stay.” you KNOW that ate at Kali. you KNOW that she thought about it for months and months and months and she thought “am i doing this wrong?”

i like to think that, because of that goodbye, she realized that she can’t be going down the path she has chosen. that maybe El is right and it’s better to have mercy, to forgive, to strive for goodness rather than sticking to revenge because of the temporary relief. love will always be the better choice

Grace FUMBLED Ryan! BAD parenting to preach respect and then act contrarily (ie saying she wants him to feel safe, then not allowing him any autonomy). She should've let him leave and come back... or at least explained why she didn't want him to leave before deciding (ex: 'Homelander will kidnap you', etc). She needed to let him make the decision for himself... agh. AAAAA.

And now Butcher's no use because he's committed to being evil and can't offer ANYTHING good to Ryan!!! He was so right, they NEEDED to give Ryan more space... I know the external pressures seemed impossible, but dammit, Grace, this was no way to beat the odds!

The above is a screenshot of one of tropes from Shadoo's section in the SPM TV Tropes page that caught my interest.

“Never mentioned to be killed...” Hm. If I go by my headcanon of how Dimentio fits into the story of the Pixl Uprising (i.e he's both the Magician's son and the surviving apprentice who defeated the Pixl Queen), then that would give another parallel of how Dimentio was once a hero who had a Pixl that could see the truth who stopped an antagonist who had the Dark Prognosticus who several thousand years later switched sides. And by another parallel, I mean it works perfectly alongside this.

The reason Shadoo exists (if they are the Pixl Queen) is because he couldn't go through with killing his sister; he cared for her too much and now here she is stuck at the bottom of the Flopside Pit of 100 Trials and wanting to exact revenge on the Ancients for sealing her away. Based on how Shadoo has a robotic text box and says that they were created by the Ancients, it can be presumed she forgot she was ever human. She forgot who she was.

Fast forward to the events of SPM and Dimentio's intended kill-shot for Count Bleck gets intercepted by Nastasia and knocks her unconscious in addition to injuring her. Either he had the power of that shot just enough to kill Bleck and no further and that's why Nastasia survived, because why waste precious energy? All he has to do is finish Count Bleck off who is already at death’s door thanks to the heroes.

Or Nastasia was just very fortunate to survive a full-powered blast. My money's on something like the former because Dimentio has well more than enough power to absolutely guarantee no one would survive an attack like that. (the average person who isn't a hero or built for combat— which Nastasia very much isn't— anyway.)

Then there's him saving O'Chunks and Mimi from what would have been certain death by teleporting them to Dimension D. We know they didn't end up in the same place as Peach and Bowser because neither they nor O'Chunks and Mimi make any mention of such. Pair that with the fact that the Void can't be seen from Dimension D and thus heavily implying that anyone inside it would survive the Void that would destroy everything else, and you're left with the only explanation of Dimentio having saved them. I do believe that Dimentio screwed up by not only "catching feelings" and he genuinely did care for the other minions deep down as much as he tries to deny that; and I have mentioned in a prior post about him putting all of the people who could have possibly done something about the Super Dimentio fusion in the same place.

If he hadn't cared as much as he did for them and just left them to their fates, he would have won. I feel that the reason why the floor came out under Bowser and O'Chunks is because of Dimentio— because why make a trap like that that is intended to kill any who don't make it out in time and then have it to where after a certain amount of time, it would give any of the heroes still inside who may somehow still be alive an escape and make a comeback? It makes no sense. And it's because of that, that Peach was able to survive by landing on top of Bowser.

Had he only teleported Bowser out and left O'Chunks, and teleported Peach while leaving Mimi, the minions wouldn't have been able to band together with Count Bleck and Tippi to recharge the Pure Hearts and destroy his invincibility. It was his inability to go through with killing them or just letting them die because he actually cared about them— cared too much— that caused his own undoing.

History literally repeats itself if one subscribes to believing Dimentio is both the Magician's son and the last surviving apprentice.

First Shadoo who may or may not be the Pixl Queen, was spared by her brother who couldn't bear to go through with killing her therefore causing future consequences for if she ever gets free. Then the minions— including Nastasia and Count Bleck who for the latter, Dimentio in his ever present wisdom decided to spare killing for later— with their love for each other that was allowed to continue existing all because he spared them for the time being, recharged the Pure Hearts and caused immediate consequences for himself and was the catalyst for his defeat.

In the first instance, he was on the “heroic” side. For the last he was on the “villainous” side.

ZAZIE/WOLFWOOD?!

AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YEAH.

It would have been dishonest to be too explicit about it so I just had to write them flirting and desperately hope that it would come through. If it didn't for somebody I don't blame them. Wolfwood doesn't show how he feels with words. He mostly just observes. Sometimes very aggressively.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Zazie/WW had to happen. I struggled a shitton with the epilogue (this is a theme with this story), and I debated with myself a lot over if it was truly necessary. Eventually I had to decide that it was. This was partly because of Zazie - I felt as if they were a big loose end that I needed to explain ("What was up with what they did in the hidden city? How come they wanted WW to join the Gung Ho Guns? Where did Wolfwood get that gun? Were they helping Vash or Knives or what?"), and I didn't want to let Vash's story end on nothing more than a desperate desire. And I needed to prove the point that this was Wolfwood's story.

The gigantic barrier in the epilogue that sent it skidding to a halt was the fact that, basically, if Wolfwood saw Vash being ""besties"" with another twelve year old he would kill him or die trying. And there is no way he would ever, ever buy the amnesia story. Ever. So he had to get the amnesia story from a source that a) knew and knew for certain, b) had a reason for telling Wolfwood this, and c) that he trusted (kinda). Only Zazie made sense. So I had to figure out why Zazie would do that. Lots of reasons, for thematic and symbolic and foil reasons, but Zazie helps WW a lot, and why does WW trust him anyway, and...WELP. Romance: helpful for explaining irrationality.

The implication for me personally is that an essential trait of WW that persists across dimensions is that he's into aliens. Which. Sure. Why not.

The epilogue felt bizarre to write and read for a lot of reasons. Through Wolfwood's eyes, it's truly a different story. I don't think Knives understood how deeply Vash fucked Wolfwood up. Knives doesn't really see the consequences of his actions and his true impact. Good and bad. In many ways Knives was Wolfwood's Rem. That feels like...the final thing to me. A big thread through the story was "What is the impact of your actions?", because Knives and Vash had done things that had catastrophic impact that determined the future of humanity and Choices Have Consequences, but Knives lives based on creating the best impact and Vash lives based on following the best intentions without truly understanding the horrible impact (which is a big thing in Trigun itself). Wolfwood was the best way to show those impacts. And Knives leaving the impact of Rem on Wolfwood changed his life. It created a good person. Out of everybody, you know, Wolfwood deserved the chance to be a good person. I'm glad that the story worked out so he could have that. And date a bug person. Why not.

oh boy you're fighting demons aren't you? it's like you're in a constant staring competition with something that's always in the peripheral. what the fuck. (at least, that's how people who don't know you would react). at this point you've probably gotten pretty familiar with the hat man. he's a reliable kind of guy. keeps to himself, sure, but you can trust him to be there. maybe a haunting isn't too bad if it's never left your side. you can only imagine what it will be like when he's not there any more.

🍼 [BABY BOTTLE] What's your OC's first memory? I don't think Lazarus can definitely say this is his first memory, since it resurfaced while he was asleep (and I let the DM be wholly in charge of what happened to him before he came through the Mists) but.... The earliest memory he might have was of being led into a room with about a dozen people standing around a magical circle. He was brought to the center of the circle, then blacked out, and when the memory resumed, everyone had collapsed and he and the circle were COVERED in blood. (And definitely of no consequence, we got solid evidence that Lazarus is an eldritch, non-standard type of vampire that feeds on other vampires [and actually physically grows and sprouts red kudzu from the corpse in the process of doing so] who, according to Esmeralda, should NOT be able to Embrace/Turn others, but uh.... they sure seem to have made Lazarus somehow) Before he had that revelation though and the earliest concrete memory he has is in the woods outside of Valaki, the wolf he'd just killed still warm as he drained its lifeblood. No thoughts beyond what cave or tree he might sleep in that night.

He's actually weirdly loyal for someone who's chaotic evil, but there are PRECIOUS few people he's actually loyal TO, so it seems to work out lmfao. Might makes Right has really always been what he values most (ish) but Strahd and one of his Iron Nails (dm turned the Wives into SCARY paladins) pretty thoroughly broke him and their strength and HOW they did it just,,,, doesn't sit right as "earned". What he REALLY values most but can't or won't put into words is freedom and he's kinda taken it to the extreme of wanting freedom from society as a whole (Not particularly achievable, esp as he's being dragged kicking and screaming into personhood lol)

Sleeping in the same clothes you've had for years, stained with mud and blood that's so ground in it's basically part of the fabric now. Dirty claws always out, hair hastily pulled away from his eyes but still wild Very "Lost Boys"type vampire- if Barovia had denim and safety pins he's be all OVER that stuff~

Lazarus doesn't exactly have qualms about being called bad or evil or anything like that, because..... he is tbh. But he also likes to argue that he doesn't need to have morals or listen to them, because he's a monster, not a person and morals are for PEOPLE. He's SUPER insistent on this, actually, and REALLY stubborn about claiming to not be a "person". That might actually change if the party is determined enough, but I don't think they'll ever get him to let go of the idea that a lot of the time murder IS the answer and you can't go your whole life NOT killing if you're going to claim you're a strong person.
