i love when taylor writes about towns in her songs !! because usually the towns can be metaphors for something bigger... a life / an experience/ a person/.. oftentimes it feels like a stand in for taylor herself, where instead of saying âiâ she says âmy townâ ⌠etc. maybe iâll elaborate with better logic in a longer post later but yeah . just contemplating on:
âmy town was a wastelandâ âit always leads to you and my hometownâ âour whole town came and our mamas criedâ âwhen my world wakes up today, youâll be in another townâ âthis is a big world, that was a small townâ âleft a small town never looked backâ âiâm shining like fireworks over your sad empty townâ âwe shouldnât be in this townâ âletâs get out of this townâ âiâll be there if youâre the toast of the townâ âthe only thing we share is this small townâ âstaring out the window like iâm not your favorite townâ âmaybe i stormed out of every single room in this townâ âyou were my town, now iâm in exileâ âthe loudest woman this town has ever seenâ âyouâre a flashback in a film reel on the one screen in my townâ âthe coastal town we wandered round had never seen a love as pure as itâ âyou got shiny friends since you left townâ âthe ladies lunching have their stories about when you passed through townâ âi didnât choose this town, i dream of getting outâ âkarmaâs gonna track you down step by step from town to townâ âyou donât live in my part of townâ ârip the band aid off and skip townâ etc. etc. etc.
#i could talk forever abt when she uses âMY town#and how much that possession means#and how exile is maybe the best example of this metaphor across her entire discography#anyways#text#lyrical parallels#taylor swift
