Not to get TOO far up on a soapbox here but I love Shayne's take here and vehemently agree with it. Oftentimes media is trying to do a specific thing and its helpful (and more fun!) to approach analysis while being conscious of the question of "did it do that thing or not"

Sometimes media is intended for deep and in depth analysis. Sometimes its intended to let u look at kickass explosions and go "wow", or watch pretty people kiss. Sometimes its for both!!! but. not always.
