I can see Jasiri laughing at whatever gossip Shupavu tells her, not to mention they realize they have more in common than they thought: They’re both smart, strong, independent female leaders who would do anything for their respective groups cuz they’re the only family they have (which is a trait practically all the leaders share but still).

Related hc, actually: one of the first rules Jasiri makes is that the skinks are not allowed to be hunted by other animals within the Outlands, which is the thing that gains Shupavu’s trust

Janja and Madoa:

It’s kinda funny how much I ship Janja and Jasiri, but never once thought about what his friendship with Madoa would be like. I know they’d definitely start off on the wrong paw, you know, with Scar’s army and all that. But I can see them bonding over Jasiri and eventually getting along. Janja could ask Madoa about the things Jasiri likes cuz no one knows her better than her sister while Madoa could maybe get Janja to be a better listener. Not to mention, they could definitely talk about Nne together, though Janja would be like “Nne’s a jerk, you can do better”

Tano and Nne (oh that’s way too easy lol what are the odds):

I’ve mentioned this before but I’ll say it again cuz I love me some background, the two met when Nne was cornered by a couple of older hyena cubs (think preteens while Nne and Tano were like…9-10 maybe) who were teasing him cuz of his birthmark. That was until they heard a “Ah, leave him alone!”. Cue a back and forth where the older cubs try to bully Tano as well, only for them to end up getting roasted by a child. I like to think while Nne views Chungu as an idiot and calls him as such, he still apologized to him and Cheezi after the events of “Janja’s New Crew”. I can even see Chungu comforting him after his and Tano’s plan failed like “that’s okay, the lion guard roars at me and Cheezi too!”. Sweet boy :3

Jasiri and Njano:

Madoa’s one of the few animals that didn’t scream or run away when she saw Sumu (though she did get startled at first), instead showing him kindness and was happy to mentor him in healing. While she had no idea if an arachnid was capable of being a healer, she was nothing but nice and patient towards him. And while Madoa taught Sumu about different herbs and remedies, he taught her how to stand up for herself (as she’s a bit of a pushover). He’s even given her a couple pointers about romance when she revealed her crush on Nne. Yeah, he has a soft spot for her :)

Shupavu and Goigoi:

Lmao if Ushari doesn’t like Goigoi, Shupavu doesn’t like Goigoi jfgjfh. Oh, well this one’s totally canon. Janja is and probably will always be terrified of Sumu. Sumu, being used to all the fear directed at him, is pretty indifferent and at most just rolls his eyes. Other than that, he’s cordial. Though I like to think Sumu takes care of Janja’s wound at some point and that makes him a little less scared of the arachnid (although he still creeps him out lol)

Wema and Shupavu:

Shupavu (well none of the skinks sans Njano, really) isn’t that good with kids, but I like to think she warms up to Wema a bit, seeing how sweet the cub is. I like to think Wema gives Shupavu a caterpillar she caught and Shupavu was like “For me? Hm, you’re not so bad.”

Ushari and Dogo:

They haven’t interacted much when he was alive other than exchanging polite greetings, but I like to think he indirectly helps Dogo as much as he does for Wema and Tunu, like dropping small rocks on Janja’s head when he’s acting cold towards him. Ushari likes the pup better than his dad lol that’s for sure

Kenge and Nne:

Honestly, Kenge would tolerate Nne more than he does Janja, Chungu, and Cheezi. Not a fan of the snark, but the hyena at least knows how to watch his mouth. I like to imagine Nne sprinkling compliments here and there just to keep himself on Kenge’s good side. He brags to the others that “we’re obviously not besties or anything, but we’re cool! …We’re cool, right?”

Tunu and Kijana:

Kiburi and Neema definitely share the same/similar opinions and ideas, hence why they’re good friends. Being the only other smart one, Kiburi trusts Neema to watch over his float whenever he has to go to a meeting, which Neema appreciates since it means Kiburi appreciates his intelligence and responsibility. Also in my Neema-centered hc (aka his double life as a phantom), Kiburi eventually sees how much Neema loves music and lets him keep being a phantom, even if he personally isn’t a fan of the concept. As long as Neema is still part of the float (which he is), he’s free to have his own identity. Just….don’t make him sing lol

As for what Neema does to Kiburi, well he’s that friend you go to whenever you want to rant and supports you no matter what and that’s all Kiburi needs

I think Kion has a slight self-inflicted Gifted Child Syndrome, rather than Golden Child Syndrome tbh

A Golden Child is typically blatantly favored and treated better than other children, is also usually seen as an extension of their dysfunctional parent so their parents project what they see in themselves onto the Golden Child (that... better matches yet another lion cub Kion’s age who earns a scar later in life, doesn’t it?)

A Gifted Child typically has expectations put on them by their peers, or words of praise from their peers that don’t leave them and in turn affect their mindset. They start off as perfectionists and later on in life feel ashamed that they didn’t meet the potential their peers saw in them. Kion feels he is not what people expect him to be, and fears he’s becoming who he doesn’t want to be (Scar).

Kovu was perceived as how Scar sees himself, as well as how Zira sees Scar, so Zira projects how she perceived Scar onto Kovu, and Kovu initially grew up believing that that was who he was to live up to, until he realized it was wrong to be someone he was not.

Kion knew from an early age to never go down Scar’s path, and Simba, in relief, told him he was glad to hear that. Unfortunately Simba’s words turned into an expectation that loomed over Kion for years to come, and he micromanaged and felt shame over the littlest mistakes he would make. He eventually learns to let go of this micromanagement and accepts the fact that he never acted on the affects of Ushari’s venom and therefore didn’t nearly go the direction Scar did.

Also, with Kovu and Isabela, I see them both possessing traits of Golden AND Gifted traits:

Isabela is treated as a Gifted Child by Alma and the townspeople as she has expectations placed on her, meanwhile Alma also treats her like a Golden Child as she sees herself in her look-alike grandchild and has her betrothed to a man who looks like her very own Pedro. 

Kovu has Gifted expectations put on him by his family and pride over the tasks he does for Zira. He has Golden Child traits due to having (implied) narcissistic parental figures who project their perceived versions of themselves onto him and use him as a poster child, boasting to everyone how great he is.

Simba and Nala are not perfect protagonist parents as they have their own post-traumatic issues to work on. Their children felt pressured by them but they never meant to inflict that on them. Zira couldn’t care less about what she’s done to her children until the signs show up way too late (Nuka dying, Vitani being driven to leave her side, Kovu completely changing and listening to others), and only then she sees what the consequences mean for her.

Do you think Kion is the royal family's golden child? (Kinda like Isabela from Encanto)

I think Simba gives Kion more attention because of what Scar did as leader of the lion guard a long time ago, and may be spending more time with him to make sure he doesn't become like Scar. (Also maybe why Mufasa occasionally helps Kion too)

And Nala gives Kiara and Kion equal attention, but focusing a little more on Kiara's future as queen.

What I think: No, the family doesn't seem to have a golden child in my opinion-

Some more angsty TLG stuff cuz we all need some angst in our lives

- Tamka having a breakdown over his lack of intelligence in his episode. After he finds out he was being used by the mob and he pushed his friends away, he thinks he’s all alone and starts to cry

- Jasiri remembering her past and how she seems to be forgetting her mother…. oof

- Chungu realizing he’s never going to find his parents (it’s brief, but still upsetting)

- I’m imagining at some point when the OG trio come back, they start inviting themselves into Janja’s life more and more. Shenzi especially does this since she didn’t get to be much of a parent when she was forced to leave the Outlands as to not get suspected for killing Scar by Zira. It’s honestly fine for the Janja at first, then it starts getting annoying when Shenzi (unintentionally) becomes degrading by providing unnecessary protection. It gets to the point where Janja snaps at his mother about how he isn’t a cub anymore and she can’t treat him as such after leaving for so long

- So my Sibling’s Day idea, right? Where Jasiri invites everyone’s siblings over for a celebration and to let them know they’re appreciated? Cute wholesome family moments, right? Well, not for a certain lizard cuz Njano slowly gets more upset the longer he looks at everyone having a good time with their respective siblings, reminding him of Danganya. He legit goes from “Aw that’s nice” to “heh…they look pretty wholesome” to “maybe a little too wholesome” to “just like….him”. He acts all fine when Shupavu asks him if he’s okay but inside he misses his late brother :(

This episode idea is one of the rare times he actually frowns. Njano’s a generally happy skink, but when he gets upset, Danganya has something to do with it

- Reirei: What are you scared of?!

-I think I’ve mentioned this before but Nduli’s trauma caused him to have a fear of abandonment and it shows. Ever since he lost his mother, he’s scared that his float would leave him like the majority of animals he knew. He can’t even handle being alone for a few hours cuz he’ll get paranoid. He’ll try to be optimistic at first, but the more he’s alone, the more worried he gets cuz there’s always a possibility his friends aren’t coming back. So he has to be with at least one of his friends or else he becomes a scared child

There would be an incident in the future when he has kids where the float wakes up at the end of the dry season and one of Nduli’s daughters, Shauri, isn’t there and Nduli straight up has a panic attack (dw she’s fine. She just got woken up in the Dry Season)

-Kiburi frequently still has nightmares about his father’s death. Every time he wakes up, he snuggles just a little bit closer to one of the other float members

-Kenge and Shupavu go through the same thing with Ushari’s death. If only Kenge had been there instead of ditching his only friend…then maybe Ushari would still be alive. Shupavu could have done something instead of staring like a fool, but she didn’t

- Sumu blaming himself for Kenge getting hurt when Mkatili’s chimps attack. Kenge keeps telling him to shut up and that he’ll be fine but Sumu can’t help it

-Selena Gomez’s “people you know” perfectly encapsulates Makuu and Kiburi’s rift

-Imagine how Pua must feel knowing that basically all of his friends had passed on. It’s basically that one drawing of all the regular show characters and Skips being the last one left

-Mzingo constantly being reminded of the fact that he nearly killed Janja by trapping him in Pride Rock even though he didn’t know the hyenas were there in the first place

This isn’t gonna happen anytime soon but…Pua finally completing his journey. It was a peaceful death with all the crocodiles by his side. He has last words for everyone (basically all the crocs we care about). Everyone, even Makuu and Kiburi, cried

Tamka takes it the hardest, he thinks he should have been a better son :(

-Sometime, in the far future, when all the kids are grown up and Wakali’s the new leader of the crocodiles, Nduli’s gonna be the last of his generation to still be alive. He’s still the same Nduli, albeit a bit sadder cuz all of his friends have gone without him. He’s no longer the baby during that time and while he has to be strong for the sake of the float, it’s proven hard for him cuz he can’t help but miss his friends

-Makuu:

Makuu seems to be the most shippable, since I’ve seen quite a few oc’s shipped with him. Although the ones I REALLY pay attention to are Makuu x Akina and Makuu x my own oc, Ucheshi.

Makuu x Akina is an easy 11/10 because my god are they perfect for each other. According to LadyAnaconda’s hc, it was quite a love story and I love how clear it is that they love each other despite their disagreements.

In my completely biased opinion, I’mma give Makuu x Ucheshi a 10/10. They weren’t expecting to fall in love, but they did and their Roger x Jessica Rabbit dynamic is not only adorable but really fun to think about. Ucheshi puts Makuu on a pedestal and Makuu brings her up right next to him. His reason? “She makes me laugh”

Going back to that Makuu x Ma Tambo ship…..7/10, although as a brotp it’s a solid 8/10

As for the other Makuu x oc ships…..6/10. They’re cute but I don’t have much else to say

I could have sworn I’ve seen Makuu x Pua somewhere and just….no. 0/10

-Hodari x Kinyonga is a 9.5/10. I took half a point off cuz they never met but their relationship is sooooooo cute 😭

-Pua:

The only ship I’ve seen of Pua other than my own is that someone mentioned Pua x Basi. I’ll give it a 5/10 romantically but a 9/10 as a friendship. They just work better as friends

My Pua/Kongwe headcanon is purely platonic and I’ve mentioned them on my blog somewhere. Giving it a 7/10, though I have thought about them becoming a couple here and there. Won’t ever happen tho lol

Pua x Kuimba however, 20/10 cuz IT’S SO WHOLESOME GODDAMMIT. They love literally everything about each other and they were GOALS I TELL YOU. Pua loved her the minute he saw her and he still doesn’t know what he did to deserve her. Tamka asked him once for dating/courting advice and it was the one question he couldn’t really answer 😭

-There are so little ships for Kiburi’s float but I’ll try hhhhhh

Kiburi x Zula from “The Northern Crocodile” have a very snarky, but playful relationship from what I remember. There was this scene where she showed him that his float was okay and they began playing together, which I think made Kiburi let everything out and admit how happy he felt. 9/10

Worldgovernmentleader on Deviantart (aka the person who wrote “Darkness of the Ring”) made a croc oc named Maklia and the piece they made of her and Kiburi is adorable. Also 9/10 cuz it’s so pretty

Kiburi x Ushari: 8/10. No explanation needed

Makuu x Kiburi as a canon relationship? 1/10 for obvious reasons. As a crackship? 10/10 lmao

Tamka and Nduli sadly don’t have any ships with them other than mine, but I have seen them shipped with each other. I’ll give it a 5/10 cuz I don’t hate it, but they just work better as BFF’s

I’ve seen Kiburi x Nduli fanart somewhere deep on Deviantart. Interesting, but they once again work better platonically. 4/10

Gonna go see Wicked later today! All I gotta say is that “No one Mourns the Wicked” is basically the Pridelanders post “Battle for the Pridelands” where everyone’s celebrating the end of the war and the defeat of all the Outlanders

It definitely fits the vibe of the show since the sng is about celebrating the death of someone they never tried to understand and when you think about it, that’s what the show does to the Outlanders, especially Ushari

We all know Ushari used to respect the circle of life, he just got stepped on and mistreated too many times and went to the dark side because all he wanted was respect

Could Reirei have been born evil? I don’t think so. In my eyes, she’s just trying to feed her family. She’s trying to survive

This one’s definitely more fanon, but every backstory for Janja that I’ve seen never depicts him as being born evil, just him losing his parents one way or another (or running away) and trying to survive in the Outlands, thus not seeing any reason to respect the circle of life due to how society sees hyenas

There’s even another side to Kiburi’s story in “Let Sleeping Crocs Lie”, cuz his reasoning for the mashindano was because he felt that his kind deserved better since it wasn’t their fault they woke up during the dry season. He felt he wasn’t being listened to. Now is it a reason for attempted assassination? Absolutely not. But can you see where Kiburi’s coming from? Of course.

What I’m trying to say is that there are 2 sides to ever story and honestly, this song could be a perfect preface to getting all the Outlanders’ backstories

Kiburi’s an actual rapper who had a hand (claw) in helping write the villain songs, especially with Janja’s lyrics. Kiburi also wanted to do a solo in “Run this Dump” but his record label wouldn’t let him

He and Makuu are pretty good friends irl

Oh speaking of which, it’s one of the songs that won an award. Jasiri, Ushari, and Kiburi all collaborated on it and it was legit their greatest masterpiece

-The other songs that won an award were “Sisi ni Sawa” and “A New Way to Go” (both songs Jasiri wrote herself)

-They got the news during the shooting of a scene by someone shouting “WE FREAKING WON”. There was a huge party at Janja’s afterwards. Kiburi has picked up Makuu during the excitement

-Kiburi wasn’t allowed to speak during the ceremony due to the fact that he gloats to the other nominees. Reirei offers to do it instead

They got Kenge as a guest star from another show and he accidentally keeps mixing up the two. “Oops, wrong show” is something he says a lot

This one’s my favorite: Tamka is actually English as opposed to the New Yorker accent he does in the show

“Oh! How dreadful! I have been defeated!”

“Cut! Hey Tamka, can you say that in like a New York mobster kind of voice?”

“Oh, like this? OHHHHH! DE AGONY! YOU HAVE BEATEN ME!”

Believe it or not, Sumu’s really shy and introverted off-camera. He gets so awkward when someone recognizes him in public. He gets even more surprised when people are positive about it like “Wait, you LIKED my part? You think I’m a good villain? Really?”

-He’s even apologized profusely about what his character was about to do and if he was being too scary. He swears he would never sting out of malice

Bunga gets along well with his “enemies” offscreen. He and Ushari’s friendship is so wholesome and Mama Binturong freaking loves him. She is THE mom figure ever. You know how Danny DeVito took care of Mara Wilson during the filming of Matilda? That’s Mama with Bunga

Mama’s the mom figure to everyone, honestly. She’s interrupted filming just because Ushari or Janja didn’t have breakfast that morning

Ushari doesn’t need to act much he’s already done with everybody’s shit

He and Shupavu are married irl

Njano got a part due to being the director’s son. Yup, good ol nepotism. He sometimes needs help with his lines

Bunga’s the best with improv. 98% of his stunts are improvised

Makucha has a friendlier, higher pitched voice irl. Sometimes doing his gravelly voice hurts his throat

Ora plays his part so well, everybody’s genuinely scared of him

The cloud and fire used for Mufasa and Scar are done with special effects and puppets

The bloopers are golden. There’s a lot of cursing done backstage for a preschool show lmaoooo
