AU where we get to meet more of the pilots in Hera’s squadron properly before they all die.

Like, heck, maybe letting Rake from The Antillies Extraction live (since blowing up one of the TIEs made no sense, given they didn’t know who the rebel infiltrator was) and kill him off either now or back in Zero Hour!  He didn’t need much, just show him being friends with Wedge and Hobbie at a minimum.

And, on that note, have Cleat or whomever as an extra who did come back safely from the time Hera had a bad Y-Wing mission.  It would have helped to give a feeling these were people who were good pilots, as opposed to some random bums on seats to stick in the new ships!
