From Athlete to Mentor - A Former Cross Country and Track Star's Coaching Journey
Robert Geiger Teacher
Upon retiring his running shoes, Robert Geiger transitioned smoothly into the world of coaching. With an abundance of experience and a treasure chest of knowledge amassed through his years of competing, he was more than equipped to guide others on the same path. His coaching style is a reflection of his personal journey; he ensures his athletes are not just physically prepared, but also mentally resilient. His unique combination of teaching and coaching allows him to influence his athletes in the classroom and on the track. His impact extends beyond the sporting arena; he guides his students in their personal growth and helps them develop skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. Additionally, Robert's undeniable passion for the sport is infectious. His love for running and his dedication to his athletes are evident in the way he speaks about his work. He believes in the transformative power of sports, how it shapes one's character, and instills important life skills such as discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and respect. His commitment to his dual roles of teaching and coaching has not only earned him a respected place within the DePaul community but also made him a positive role model for aspiring athletes.
In his youth, he didn't fall in love with the sport for the glory it might bring or the accolades that might be earned. Instead, he was drawn to the sport for the pure joy of running. Picture those crisp fall mornings, the ground beneath his feet, the rhythmic crunch of leaves, and the sense of freedom he found running through the woods.
Transitioning to college, his prowess on the track and in cross country became increasingly evident. He began setting records, claiming championships, and earning the respect of teammates and competitors alike. It was during these years that he didn't merely hone his physical skills, but he also sharpened his understanding of the sport. He became a sponge for knowledge, soaking up wisdom from coaches, mentors, and seasoned athletes.
After completing his studies, Robert Geiger's competitive spirit remained as fervent as ever. His passion for running motivated him to continue competing at an elevated level, pushing his personal boundaries and constantly seeking to break his own records. Nevertheless, as he strove to master his athletic prowess, an unanticipated realization gradually surfaced. His potential was not confined to personal accomplishments in the racing realm. Instead, he found a deeper sense of fulfillment and satisfaction in harnessing his athletic expertise and mentoring capabilities to guide others, helping them uncover their full potential within the sport. This newfound perspective marked a pivotal transition in Robert's journey, shaping his future commitment to coaching and molding future athletic talents. His influence, therefore, transcends his personal achievements, resonating powerfully within the lives of those he guides and the broader sporting community.
To become an effective coach, he understood that he had to go beyond relying solely on his personal experiences. He immersed himself in the science of training, delving into exercise physiology, biomechanics, and nutrition. He attended coaching clinics, sought advice from seasoned coaches, and pursued certifications to enhance his expertise.
Having the honor to coach athletes of varying skills, from beginners to accomplished competitors, Robert Geiger has observed first-hand the transformative power of committed and informed mentorship. His coaching journey is not solely fixed on bettering race times or refining technique. Rather, it's centered on nurturing personal advancement. The teachings imparted on the track – steadfast perseverance, stringent discipline, and the strength of collective effort – have greatly influenced the character development of the athletes, not only within the realm of the sport but also extending to their wider lives.
Robert Geiger's journey from athlete to coach represents a story of evolution, a story that vividly illustrates the transformative power of sport. His commitment to personal growth, combined with a deep understanding of the sport, has not only enabled his own achievements but also opened avenues for countless up-and-coming athletes. Transforming his talents and experiences into guiding lights, he has successfully navigated the intricate journey of mentorship, offering his athletes more than just training - he has imparted life lessons and values, shaping the entirety of their sporting journey. And as these athletes themselves evolve into mentors, the legacy of Robert continues to multiply, creating a positive ripple effect within the sporting community. It is this enduring impact and the continual growth of those he has guided that truly epitomize the extent of Bob’s contributions to the world of athletics. His story is a testament not only to the potential within each athlete but also to the potent influence of a dedicated, knowledgeable mentor.
Every coach knows the feeling of watching an athlete they've trained achieve a personal best time. It's a moment marked by a smile of satisfaction and the radiant glow of accomplishment. This joy is unparalleled, and it's what keeps them returning to the track, season after season. It's a constant reminder that the sport is about more than competition; it's about personal growth and self-discovery.
In the realm of athletics, the story of an evolving mentor holds immense significance, showcasing the transformational capacity of sports. The dedication towards self-improvement, coupled with a profound understanding of the sport, acts as a beacon, enlightening the path for budding athletes. This intricate journey of mentorship offers them not just training but also life-altering lessons and values that shape the contours of their sporting journey. As these athletes embark on their journey of becoming mentors, a positive cascading effect spreads across the sporting community. It is the growth of these guided individuals that exemplifies the tremendous influence a mentor can wield. This enduring impact is not just about potential athletic prowess, but also the powerful influence of a committed, knowledgeable mentor. The legacy being constructed transcends athletic records; it instills a deep-seated passion for the sport, imparts life-changing teachings, and cultivates a sense of camaraderie within the team. This legacy will continue to shape the future of sport and its athletes, leaving an indelible impression for generations to come. Thus, Robert Geiger's contributions to athletics highlight the remarkable potential within each athlete and the lasting impact of a dedicated mentor.

God I love your blog I spent all day just looking at it and I’m like yes more Omori brain worms
Also, what do you think the Omori gang’s jobs would be when they’re adults? I kinda meta’d and thought Sunny would be a little comic book artist with the character Omoriboy but I’m curious on your thoughts
Awww thank you! Also you have given me the perfect excuse to show off my happiest AU aka the ‘everyone stays in town together, and lowkey they all live at Hero’s house’  I have a lot of different ideas for what they could end up being, so if this isn’t your cup of tea it’s not my firm canon haha! I actually do have an artist sunny series which would probably be up your alley if you were interested in hearing about that too! Alsooooo this got long again it’s under a read more. I’m calling it Come Home series and I really like it if you guys are interested in hearing more 0-0 I only talk about Basil Sunny and Kel here haha because it got long long, but there’s defintiely another part coming to this if you guys want it!
Basil starts going back to school post-canon, and he ends up doing pretty good for his last two years, but it’s still a struggle considering he missed so much school over the last four years. The idea of going to college is particularly stressful to him, so Polly doesn’t push it on him. She didn’t end up finishing college, and she turned out alright.
Polly does want Basil to be thinking about his future though, and so she encourages him to find something related to what he’s passionate about. Which leads to Basil working part time at Fix-It in the gardening section.
He quickly branches out of just gardening, although that is still his favorite. There’s something deeply gratifying about seeing what he’s created with his own two hands, and having people ask for his help only with simple things he can fix for them.
Basil starts up a deep mentoring relationship with the couple who owns  Fix-It. They like to hear his passionate rambles about the flowers, and they like the ideas he has. Basil starts to lead flower arrangement classes, and they end up being a big hit.
When he’s in the spring of his senior year, they ask him about his plans. When they find out he isn’t really all that interested in college, they ask if he could come on full time, and maybe even apprentice. They have a son of their own, but he is a lawyer and has no interest in the shop. Basil is excited by this, and he almost immediately agrees.
There’s a lot more to running the shop then he thought, but he loves it. He’s content just to be the manager for now, but the couple has assured him that within the next five years they plan to retire and the shop will be his for good.
Kel does end up getting a scholarship for basketball. It’s to a good school (not quite Hero’s level, but better than his parents expected). It’s a big state school compared to Hero’s tiny private, but his parents are happy and they have a winning basketball team. The problem is that Kel has no idea what he would want to do.
He had some ideas, but I think that learning the truth really affected him. He had thought he wanted to be a basketball star, or something to do with the sports industry, but that all feels so juvenile now. Now Kel wants to do something real and good. He wants to work with people, but he isn’t sure what that might mean.
Kel goes to school as an undecided major, and they stick him in a bunch of different types of classes. Most of them are painfully boring, hard, and he just isn’t interested. He briefly considers dropping out, but he knows how disappointed his mom and dad would be. They didn’t get the opportunity to get a college degree, so it kind of feels like slapping them in the face if he gave back all the money he got just because he didn’t have any passion.
There is one class that Kel really enjoys. The class is called Child’s Play and it’s a psychology course. Specifically a class on the influence of play children’s lives. It’s still hard for him, and he struggles to fully comprehend the material, but it’s something he’s passionate about.
He talks with his advisor about it, and the man suggests combining all of the things he’s been passionate about so far. He wants to do good for other people, he is interested in sports, and he liked learning about how children work. His advisor puts him in an education couse and a few physical health courses, and Kel enters his sophomore year with a physical education major.
Kel doesn’t graduate with honors like Hero, but he does graduate with a plan. He does his student teaching at Faraway High, his connections with his coach and the school helping to grease the wheels. (It doesn’t hurt that he’s living with Sunny by this point, and Sunny got a job offer in Faraway that he’s going to accept...but more on that later)
They offer him a tentative position at the end of the year, and he accepts it. He also takes on the basketball team, and they win the playoffs for the first time since he graduated, which cinches his job in tight.
Sunny also doesn’t end up going to college. Not only did he not have the grades, it just wasn’t something he thought he would be very good at. He doesn’t really have a plan, just that he wants to still be by his friends. Hero is far from them now, and Aubrey is planning on going away too, but Basil and Kel are staying close by
He ends up talking to Kel about it late one night, and Kel proposes a great idea. They’ll get an apartment together off campus instead of him living in the dorms, and Sunny can figure his life out while Kel gets a friend and study partner.
Sunny’s mother is very happy with this idea, and Kel’s parents are satisfied that he won’t be off partying every night if he has Sunny with him, so they agree as well. What Sunny’s mother isn’t excited about is the idea of her baby not getting any degree or anything. So she makes a compromise. She and Sunny will find a good trade school near Kel’s college, and Sunny will take classes in something he enjoys
She assumes he will pick art classes or something that she knows he likes, but Sunny surprisingly picks veterinary certification. It feels out of left field, but if it makes Sunny happy and he’s going to go to his internships and his classes then so be it.
Sunny is never top of the class, but he is serious about doing well. There are aspects of the job that he does not do well with, but he manages. He gets his vet tech certification and finds a starting position near where he lives with Kel
Living with Kel is a breath of fresh air. It feels good to have a partner in life who doesn’t expect him to talk or to act like everyone else. Kel is a master at reading Sunny, and it’s a bone deep relaxation to not have to try and express himself. Most of the time Sunny can just listen and let Kel talk to him. They work well with chores and food and generally everything. Every day feels like a sleepover honestly, and Sunny starts to smile a bit more and reach just a little father out of his comfort zone.
Kel loves living with Sunny. Every night they get to just spend time together and enjoy each others presence, and sometimes Basil will come up and they all get to eat dinner together in their little shoebox apartment. One of their windowsills is full of plants that Basil has brought them.
At the end of their four years Kel knows that he wants to go back to Faraway to work. He has been commuting there for student teaching, and while it’s only an hour, it’s still pretty far. The problem is that he can’t imagine leaving Sunny alone. Not after four years of them being together every single day. Then Sunny reveals that he found a job in the town next to Faraway that he wants to take. He doesn’t want to leave Kel though, and he’s not sure what to do.
They have a long conversation that night, and they both agree that they want to stay together. It’s been an unspoken thing, but neither of them ended up having any long term partner in the last four years. They don’t have romantic feelings for one another, but they want to continue what they have. It’s safe, it’s lovely, and they feel secure in their bond. Whatever happens they want to decide as a team, as a partnership.
With Kel and Sunny both coming back to Faraway they assume that they’re going to have to try and find a place to live closer. They’re going to stay with Kel’s parents until they do, but Basil has a better idea.
Polly loves Basil a lot. She has adored getting to raise him and helping him and guiding him the last six years. But now her quiet sweet boy is a grown man, and his parents stopped paying her for caring for him over a year ago. She knows that the best thing to do would be to detach herself and to let him continue to grow without her constant presence.
Basil isn’t sure he’s ready to be all by himself, and when he finds out Kel and Sunny are coming back to Faraway, he offers to let them stay at his house. It might be a bit cramped all three of them, and they don’t have to, but it could be nice. They say yes before he can even begin to second guess himself
So as bright and bushy 21/22 year olds, Kel, Basil, and Sunny all have Come Home.

HEADCANONS
Sam Evans is a nice and self-possessed guy, and sometimes a bit of a dork, with a quirky awkwardness when he speaks, at first never being sure what to say, and maybe that is why the girls adore him so much. When he first moved to Lima, he tried to find his way within the social networks of his new school and did his best to make friends. When Finn offered him the chance to join the Glee Club, Sam was genuinely excited at the idea, and by how welcoming the people he met were. However, like all kids, Sam feared social alienation, embarrassment, and ended up temporarily backing out of joining for fear of being bullied. But even at the risk of being alienated, Sam showed how very honorable he is.
But Sam is rather socially awkward and naïve and is generally oblivious to how much the girls find him attractive. He always claims this is because of limited interaction with girls, due to previously attending an all-boys school. This appeared to cause him to move a bit more quickly than most would in terms of interacting with girls. He also is a very easygoing and likable person. He is very determined to get what he wants, such as popularity, which is also a toll on his self-confidence.
Sam loves to play football and to sing, but he is a bit of a nerd, he loves “Avatar.” He often does impressions of various celebrities, but he also struggles with dyslexia, and that was the reason why his grades were not always the best. But he has learned to push through and not let it hinder him.
After modeling didn’t work out, Sam decided to take a long hard look at his future. He wanted to do something meaningful and decided to go to school and get his degree in fine arts, and then went for a master’s degree in adolescent education. He was able to get a job at a high school in a high need area. He mainly teaches art and music and coaches the football team after school.
Sam is social awkward at times and a bit of dork. His students appreciate his humor and his impressions. Sam uses humor to get out of socially awkward situations. He is very loyal and laid back. Not much bothers him. Sam would do anything for his friends and family within reason. He loves to help others. On his free time, he does teach guitar lessons to students who want to learn, and he does teach art classes in the community, for free.
CONNECTIONS
MARY & DWIGHT EVANS (Parents): Sam was always trying to help his parents. From getting a part-time job to help pay the bills, to help them taking care of his younger siblings, Sam was always there. He is very proud of being their kid, and he knows he can trust them with any single thing in this world. They are Sam’s everything. Family means the most to Sam, and he is always trying to make them proud. STEVIE & STACEY EVANS (Younger Siblings): Sam takes care of them since they were just babies and Sam was only a few years older than them. As the older brother, he always felt the need to protect them, and that is why even nowadays, he is always keeping his eyes wide open whenever he is around them, but mostly around Stacey. Stacey is his little princess, and he would do any single thing to protect her. While Stevie is like his partner-in-crime. MERCEDES JONES (Girlfriend & Baby-Mama): Mercedes and Sam defined their relationship as off and on again. Both maintaining their friendship while trying to figure out what they meant to each other. It was Mercedes going on her world tour that made them realize what they had was over. And each moved on. Until they found each other walking on a beach in Hawaii. Neither knew the other was there but old habits die hard and that same love that followed them through High School and some years later fully returned. Both considered what happened on the beach…and Quinn’s place to be the end, until a few months later when Mercedes realized she was pregnant, and Sam was the father.

Charles Drew
Tumblr media
Charles Richard Drew (June 3, 1904 – April 1, 1950) was an American surgeon and medical researcher. He researched in the field of blood transfusions, developing improved techniques for blood storage, and applied his expert knowledge to developing large-scale blood banks early in World War II. This allowed medics to save thousands of lives of the Allied forces. As the most prominent African American in the field, Drew protested against the practice of racial segregation in the donation of blood, as it lacked scientific foundation, and resigned his position with the American Red Cross, which maintained the policy until 1950.
Early life and education
Drew was born in 1904 into an African-American middle-class family in Washington, D.C. His father, Richard, was a carpet layer and his mother, Nora Burrell, trained as a teacher. Drew and three of his four younger siblings grew up in Washington's largely middle-class and interracial Foggy Bottom neighborhood. From 1920 until his marriage in 1939, Drew's permanent address was in Arlington County, Virginia, although he graduated from Washington's Dunbar High School in 1922 and usually resided elsewhere during that period of time.
Drew won an athletics scholarship to Amherst College in Massachusetts, from which he graduated in 1926. An outstanding athlete at Amherst, Drew also joined Omega Psi Phi fraternity as an off-campus member; Amherst fraternities did not admit blacks at that time. After college, Drew spent two years (1926–1928) as a professor of chemistry and biology, the first athletic director, and football coach at the historically black private Morgan College in Baltimore, Maryland, to earn the money to pay for medical school.
Drew attended medical school at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where he achieved membership in Alpha Omega Alpha, a scholastic honor society for medical students, ranked second in his graduating class of 127 students, and received the standard Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery degree awarded by the McGill University Faculty of Medicine in 1933.
Drew's first appointment as a faculty instructor was for pathology at Howard University from 1935 to 1936. He then joined Freedman's Hospital, a federally operated facility associated with Howard University, as an instructor in surgery and an assistant surgeon. In 1938, Drew began graduate work at Columbia University in New York City on the award of a two-year Rockefeller fellowship in surgery. He then began postgraduate work, earning his Doctor of Science in Surgery at Columbia University. He spent time doing research at Columbia's Presbyterian Hospital and gave a doctoral thesis, "Banked Blood," based on an exhaustive study of blood preservation techniques. He earned a Doctor of Science in Medicine degree in 1940, becoming the first African American to do so.
Blood for Britain
In late 1940, before the U.S. entered World War II and just after earning his doctorate, Drew was recruited by John Scudder to help set up and administer an early prototype program for blood storage and preservation. He was to collect, test, and transport large quantities of blood plasma for distribution in the United Kingdom. Drew went to New York City as the medical director of the United States' Blood for Britain project. The Blood for Britain project was a project to aid British soldiers and civilians by giving U.S. blood to the United Kingdom.
Drew started what would be later known as bloodmobiles, which were trucks containing refrigerators of stored blood; this allowed for greater mobility in terms of transportation as well as prospective donations.
Drew created a central location for the blood collection process where donors could go to give blood. He made sure all blood plasma was tested before it was shipped out. He ensured that only skilled personnel handled blood plasma to avoid the possibility of contamination. The Blood for Britain program operated successfully for five months, with total collections of almost 15,000 people donating blood, and with over 5,500 vials of blood plasma. As a result, the Blood Transfusion Betterment Association applauded Drew for his work.
American Red Cross Blood Bank
Out of Drew's work, he was appointed director of the first American Red Cross Blood Bank in February 1941. The blood bank being in charge of blood for use by the U.S. Army and Navy, he disagreed with the exclusion of the blood of African-Americans from plasma-supply networks. In 1942, Drew resigned from his posts after the armed forces ruled that the blood of African-Americans would be accepted but would have to be stored separately from that of whites.
Academic career
In 1941, Drew's distinction in his profession was recognized when he became the first African-American surgeon selected to serve as an examiner on the American Board of Surgery.
Drew had a lengthy research and teaching career, returning to Freedman's Hospital and Howard University as a surgeon and professor of medicine in 1942. He was awarded the Spingarn Medal by the NAACP in 1944 for his work on the British and American projects. He was given an honorary doctor of science degree, first by Virginia State College in 1945 then by Amherst in 1947.
Personal life
In 1939, Drew married Minnie Lenore Robbins, a professor of home economics at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, whom he had met earlier during that year. They had three daughters and a son. His daughter Charlene Drew Jarvis served on Council of the District of Columbia from 1979 to 2000, was the president of Southeastern University from 1996 until 2009 and was a president of the District of Columbia Chamber of Commerce.
Death
Beginning in 1939, Drew traveled to Tuskegee, Alabama to attend the annual free clinic at the John A. Andrew Memorial Hospital. For the 1950 Tuskegee clinic, Drew drove along with three other black physicians. Drew was driving around 8 a.m. on April 1. Still fatigued from spending the night before in the operating theater, he lost control of the vehicle. After careening into a field, the car somersaulted three times. The three other physicians suffered minor injuries. Drew was trapped with serious wounds; his foot had become wedged beneath the brake pedal. When reached by emergency technicians, he was in shock and barely alive due to severe leg injuries.
Drew was taken to Alamance General Hospital in Burlington, North Carolina. He was pronounced dead a half hour after he first received medical attention. Drew's funeral was held on April 5, 1950, at the Nineteenth Street Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.
Despite a popular myth to the contrary, once repeated on an episode ("Dear Dad... Three") of the hit TV series M*A*S*H, Drew's death was not the result of his having been refused a blood transfusion because of his skin color. This myth spread very quickly since during his time it was very common for blacks to be refused treatment because there were not enough "Negro beds" available or the nearest hospital only serviced whites. In truth, according to one of the passengers in Drew's car, John Ford, Drew's injuries were so severe that virtually nothing could have been done to save him. Ford added that a blood transfusion might have actually killed Drew sooner.
Legacy
In 1976, the National Park Service designated the Charles Richard Drew House in Arlington County, Virginia, as a National Historic Landmark in response to a nomination by the Afro-American Bicentennial Corporation.
In 1981, the United States Postal Service issued a 35¢ postage stamp in its Great Americans series to honor Drew.

A/N: This is an au that I worked on with @totally-completely-obsessed With Barry and my Oc Yonah so I hope you guys enjoy it too!
Summary: When Barry Allen senior and new kid of Gotham Academy comes to flaunt his parent's riches he meets someone who reminds him her bite is better than his bark.
Warning: Hinted smut
"Did you hear about the new kid?" a group of girls were chattering down the hall of the academy as if they had nothing better to do with their time, "I heard he's like super hot," Yonah Ezra and Dick walked down the halls as they usually did every day, but something about today was different everyone had been talking about some new kid who graced Gotham with his presence so to speak, and Yonah already wasn't having it,  Gotham academy was her kingdom and if anyone was going to steal her shine it would have been Oliver himself,
"I heard he's hotter than Oliver Queen.," Dick whispered already feeding into the gossip of the school,
"Shut up Richard,"
"Sorry, Ezra.." he glared at her.
Coming down the hall was a young man who had the darkest of hair and the greenest of eyes with the brightest smile the world had ever seen, and it made Yonah sick to her stomach, he looked like solid Teflon in person, and for that she hated him. From what was conjured up about him, his father was a very well known doctor in Central City who had received a job offer to move his practice to Gotham city to then be funded by Gothams very own elite man of the hour Bruce Wayne or more so known to Yonah a big mistake,
"So, you're the talk of the town?" Yonah said walking towards him, She could smell the cockiness radiating off him and she liked it, she knew that she would become a challenge for him and soon he'd be begging on his knees for her as most did.
"Names Barry Allen, and you are-"
"Too expensive for you," Yonah laughed as she then whispered, "You try taking my spotlight, and my father will send you right back to that little town of yours.."
"Excuse my sister.. my twin sister!" Ezra said taking Yonah by the arm as she stuck her hand out for him to shake it,
"She's.. charming," he said with a laugh afterward, one so fake that not even a game show host could copy it, " like my maid.." he mumbled, "Barry Allen by the way, "He winked kissing her hand, "Ezra Shanel Wayne.. and that's my sister Yonah-"
"Princess! Yonah that is," she pushed through, "And the guy over there is our brother Richard," Ezra rolled her eyes at her sister, the bell had then rung as millions of students gathered together to head to their respective classes. Yonah and Ezra who always were the first ones in the class sat in their usual seats row 1 the first front 2,
"What was that back there?" Ezra asked looking at her sister in disgust,
"What was what? oh, you mean with that Allen guy.." Ezra shook her head as Yonah laughed, "He had to know his place... " she trailed off hearing a group of girls walking into the room,
"So, do you have a girlfriend?"
"I did.. her name was Iris.. but things just didn't work out.." he shrugged,
"Well, I heard there's a Gala at Wayne Manor, and everyone who's anyone is going.."  Barry looked over at Yonah as he sat down next to her, Yonah looked as though she was gonna be sick while Ezra snickered,
"You again?" he laughed, Yonah continued to look straight ahead while he kept talking, "So, you're hosting a gala. "
"Yes, and what about it Mr. Allen," her eyebrow raised up as she turned towards him, "You want an invite, "
"It's only polite or do they not teach you that at princess school,"
"If I wanted to listen to an asshole I'd listen to my own farts.." she glared at him,
A few hours later and Yonah was now in her fencing 101 class in which she was known as unbeatable even by her own coach, though she was captain of it, putting on her gear, Rosa who was her sister's girlfriend handed her a foil before sending her on her way.
" By the way, you know you're fencing that new kid right," Rosa asked as Yonah held her helmet, "Then I have no mercy to show him.."  she shrugged walking out to the arena, Barry, on the other hand, was nervously standing there as the crowd of students gathered around, he had heard a lot about who his opponent could be, and he hoped that it wasn't Yonah, with the curly hair and eyes that sparkled- and what was he thinking,
"I won't go easy on you Allen, " Yonah said stepping onto the mat,
"Hit me with your best shot!" he cheered.
"I've been wanting to hit you all day.." she snickered getting into position,
"En Garde!  Pret, Allez!"
Yonah gave him the first hit and barely enough time to fight back, she quite liked the way he looked sitting on the ground looking up at her, it made her feel powerful, "You're pissing me off.." Barry mumbled, watching the way she walked back to her spot on the mat if he didn't have his helmet on you'd be able to tell he had hearts in his eyes, Yonah turned to look back at him "If your mad use your anger to destroy me.." she laughed, "If you can .."
"Oh I wanna destroy you alright.," he mumbled,
"En Garde!  Pret, Allez!"
"I thought you and Oliver were finished, after the whole homecoming situation where he got juice on your dress?" Ezra said a few weeks had passed by it was now the night of the big Wayne gala hosted by their parents, Yonah groaned as Ezra sat there placing her tiara on her eldest sisters head, "I only got back with Oliver in case he shows up.." she said insisting on Barry,
"Will you stop acting as if you don't like him!" Ezra grumbled, "And don't say you don't I heard you last night," she glared at her,
"I have no idea what you're talking abou-"
"Oh, Barry~ please you moaned his name in your sleep!"  she laughed, "Something you didn't even do with Oliver, your own boyfriend,"
"That's cuz I was busy moaning it at him, but you wouldn't know that cause you do the same with Rosa!" She growled back at her, "Rosa is my girlfriend first off!" she whispered, "Oh don't get quiet now, Ms. moans in Spanish," Yonah stuck her tongue out,
"At least she doesn't go for 15 minutes!" Ms, unsatisfied!" Ezra shouted back.
"Barf breath!"
"Idiot sandwich!'
"Nerfherder!" Yonah shouted at her.
"Oh, it's on!"
"Girls!" Alfred cleared his throat stopping them just in time, "Please compose yourselves, it's time for you both to arrive, and as for you Ms. Yonah," he glared at her then moved away to reveal Oliver behind him "No wild stunts you two," he mumbled watching Oliver run over to kiss Yonah.
"Introducing Master Dick Grayson," Alfred said "Alongside him  Master Jason Todd, Master Tim Drake, and Master Damian Wayne, with Master Duke Thomas," he said proudly watching them walk down from the staircase and inside of the monstrosity that was the gala, Barry waited to get the first glance of Yonah, the woman who had been on his mind for weeks in an annoyingly lovesick way,
"And Now announcing the entrance of Princess Ezra Shanel  Wayne accompanied by Rosa Santiago. " Ezra shook her head as she walked down the steps almost tripping down them, "And Now announcing  Princess Yonah Shathinia Shanel Wayne the 1st accompanied by Oliver Queen of Starling City,"
Barry felt his heart fall to his stomach which was odd because he didn't care that much about Yonah, or so he thought, but she looked happy up there in her black ball gown encrusted with crystal,  as she walked down the steps Oliver who had forgotten to hold her hand walked down without her. Yonah placed her hand on the railing as it brushed into another hand that helped her down.
"Oh Thank y-"  dark brown eyes meeting, green ones and the smell of the latest musk lingered around her making her drunk in the aroma, "You clean up nicely, you almost look like royalty.." she joked,
"You weren't kidding when you said you were expensive, you almost look like a princess.. " he remarked back,
"And now for our lovely host and hostess, Master Bruce Thomas Wayne and Her majesty  Queen Yazela Shathinia Wayne.." the room was filled with cheers and bows except for the small area in which Barry and Yonah we're talking.
"Who's this.."
"Oh, Oliver meet Barry he and I are in the same classes together.. " she smiled taking him by the hand as he then let go of it, Yonah looked away for a bit from the action,
"I see you have a thing for bad guys.." Barry mumbled remembering everything he heard from the papers about him,
"Pleasure to meet you.." Oliver rolled his eyes,
"Don't be so modest .." Barry laughed before watching Oliver's gaze follow towards someone else,
"Yonah baby excuse me,"  Oliver kissed her hand as he walked off  towards the drinks, Yonah wouldn't say that she was used to him doing that, but she was, and she already knew what he was doing, he was going to set his sights on another girl leave her in the dust say he didn't mean it send her flowers and she'd end up beside him as his arm candy,
"Wanna dance?"
"With you?" Yonah laughed
"No, with my father.."
"Cultured man.. you like musicals.." she smirked, taking him to the middle of the dance floor her sister cheering her on, "Don't step on my toe's, " she glared at him, "Wasn't planning to,"
Yazela and Bruce we're standing next to Nora and Henry the four watching their children waltzing in the middle of the ballroom, "We're very honored to be here, " Nora said as Yazela giggled, "We're more honored you're both here, we haven't seen our daughter smile that bright since she made it head of the track team,"  Bruce only nodded along as he kept watching,
"You're good at this, it's surprising... "  she said as he dipped her, her eyes wide at him in surprise of just how graceful he could be, "My mom taught me .." he shrugged it off, " Nothing special.." he sighed, "So you and that Oliver guy?" he asked watching how sad she had gotten just by her body language.
"What about him.." she asked
"Why do you let him treat you like that, " Barry replied twirling her around, "He's rich, it's how life goes, everyone likes him and-" the sensation of lips on her own threw her off, Barry pulled her closer the feel of the satin fabric in his hands, as she kissed him back melting into it she couldn't believe what was happening right now, suddenly a sensation of something wet splashed over them,
"OLIVER HOW DARE YOU,"
"Great I ruined the evening," Yonah said sitting on her bed soaking wet from what happened, "Mind helping me unzip," she asked as Barry was sitting there daydreaming, he didn't think that Yonah would let him in her room this quickly, but here he was "Earth to Barry!" she sighed already out of the dress,
"We could get caught.," Barry mumbled to himself watching every shape of her
"Or we could get naked.."
"What?" he turned red
"Checking if you were listening.." she giggled " helping him up, her curls were curlier than ever, and Barry was in love his heart skipped 5 beats at the sight of her, he couldn't lose her besides he didn't know what to do in this type of moment, he felt his feet move  then his legs move, and his arms were holding Yonah by the waist, she purred feeling him behind her the fabric of his shirt wet against her low rise corset,
"Barry, what are you doing." laughing at their reflection in her vanity mirror, though she wouldn't lie and say she didn't dream about this ever happening, "I see you like bad boys.. from the look of Oliver Queen - "
"If you're trying to turn me on, it's working..." She smirked turning towards him to kiss him, " You wan to do it here, right now, what about the guest," Yonah laughed untangling herself from his hold, "We don't have to if you don't want to, we can just get changed hate each oth-"
"No. "
"No?"
"Look Yonah, I've liked you since the day we met, you're always in my mind and my dreams and at first I thought I was being cursed by you." he sat down on her bed "But I was falling for you and -"
"Stop talking."
"What.."
"Strip... "
"Okay.."
" You have no idea how much I dreamt about this!" Yonah squeaked, clothes were thrown in every direction of the room as there was nothing bur giddiness giggling heard from the two, "Neither do you..."
"Did you hear about the new leader of the track team?" a few girls said running down the halls of the campus, "did you hear about his girlfriend," another asked, "Here they come," Yonah and Barry were hand in hand walking down the halls of the academy as she looked up at him squeezing his hand tight,
" Do good at your meet!" she said as he let go of her hand to catch up with his team," she kissed him on the cheek while watching him walk away.
"I will!" he waved back.
"And bring the Knights to victory! crush them!!" she shouted,
"I'm gonna! " he laughed
"I love you!"
"I know!!"

I’m busy. Very busy. But with all beautiful things. My work as an NT2 teacher and the training at the RU that I follow for this. My honorary position as chairman of the client council of Apanta-GGZ, my text work and being a buddy friend at the coaching organization Merk Hoe Sterk.
But the past few weeks have been very busy, too busy. Sometimes I find that my mind loses my will to be everywhere, and to be of value everywhere. Good is not good enough, it has to be very good. And I like to leave my mark on all the positions I fill.
Now that I am training to become a certified NT2 teacher at Radboud University, I do an internship with a colleague on Monday evenings. The target group is medium-educated people who have mastered the Dutch language at A1 level. A wonderful, mixed group of open-hearted and motivated people from all over the world. Despite my busy schedule, I try to provide part of the lesson in this group every Monday evening.
Instant happiness
My internship supervisor, flexible as she is, gives me the space to decide for myself whether I want to provide a part of the lesson or not. Precisely because of the freedom she gives me, and the instant feeling of happiness I get in this group, I’m there almost every Monday. Preparing my lesson is not worth the happiness I experience when I get to teach them. They are enthusiastic, passionate and disarmingly honest. If they don’t get me, I’ll know right away. Then I have to do something else to accommodate them in their eagerness to learn. And the result is always very satisfying. I always go home happier than how I arrived. Instant happiness.
After my lesson today, I got on the train on my way home as always. Enjoying the lesson intensely. Would the students know what gift they give me each week? As a ‘beginner’ they have a lot of patience with me, but at the same time everything I do is good. As long as I give them genuine attention and try to teach them something, they are happy. And I. And it was Sinterklaas evening. Because I am single and have no children, I thought back nostalgically to the Sinterklaas evenings of my youth. I couldn’t suppress a little feeling of loneliness.
Lick on the hand
When I got out in my hometown, I saw a lady standing in front of the train door with her, rather oversized, assistance dog. Because I am a huge lover of dogs, and assistance dogs in particular, I walked neatly and firmly past the dog after getting out of the car. But the dog couldn’t resist treating me to a loving, spontaneous and probably forbidden lick on my hand. The owner of the dog rightly called him, which I understand. But all I could do was gloat at the honor that had been bestowed on me: a generous lick of love, knowing full well he was not allowed to do that. But for me that made all the difference. I was no longer alone.

Episode 748 - Sensei Jerry Figgiani
Sensei Jerry Figgiani is a Martial Arts practitioner, instructor, and founder of East Coast Black Belt Academy, Budokan Dojo in New York.
I played for a legendary coach here in Long Island, he’s in Suffolk County Hall of Fame. I didn’t appreciate, at that time, as a kid what I really had in front of me as a mentor, as a guy… Once the season is over, it’s over, but Martial Arts, it’s for life…
Sensei Jerry Figgiani - Episode 748
Sensei Jerry Figgiani, 8th Dan Black Belt, is the President and Founder of Shorin Ryu Karate-Do International and the owner of East Coast Black Belt Academy, Budokan Dojo. He comes from a strong lineage of Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu practitioners who have followed in the footsteps of Grand Master Shoshin Nagamine. Starting his training in 1977, he has been teaching martial arts since 1988. Through his extensive background and experience, he has developed a unique way of bringing the philosophy of martial arts to everyday life activities. Because he has the ability to reach students of all ages and skill levels and help them understand karate’s movements, mechanics, and applications his seminars are universal to any karate system.
As such, he has been invited to teach all over the world and was one of the first western instructors to have the honor of teaching at the Okinawa Karate Kaikan, the official government-supported center for learning the essence of traditional karate. A published author as well as the subject of many magazines, newspapers, and media articles, Sensei Figgiani is a featured column writer for the premiere martial arts magazine, Masters, and has published books on martial practice and philosophy as well as interviews with some of today’s greatest martial artists and karate pioneers. Building on his distinctive ability to help his students reach and exceed their expectations, in 2010 Sensei Figgiani developed the Mental Martial Arts Program.
Promoted predominantly in the K-12 school classrooms, the series of lessons is designed to create a more peaceful school and community environment, instill a sense of confidence and self-respect in the students and even more importantly, help each individual learn the value and benefit of respecting others. Possessing a 3rd-degree black belt in Judo and membership in the Kodokan, the headquarters of Judo training located in Tokyo, Japan, Sensei Figgiani is able to integrate the principles and foundations of both karate and judo into a well-rounded and total martial education for his students. In this way, the student gets a complete understanding of the mechanics of self-defense enabling them to be more confident and secure as they go through their daily life.
In 2003, Sensei Figgiani created a program with the support of the Police Athletic League that would improve academic achievement through the study of martial arts. Known as the R.E.A.C.H. Program, the acronym stands for Respect Education and Always Climb Higher. The program guides kids having social and academic difficulties towards success through the practice of traditional martial arts skills. This curriculum instantly became so popular that in 2004 the Longwood School District Board of Education recognized Sensei for the immediate impact his methods had on the lives of the student participants. Later, in 2012, Sensei was presented with the National Police Athletic League Mentoring Service Award for the dramatic influence his program has made on the lives of so many students.
The R.E.A.C.H. program continues to this day and has expanded to numerous school districts sharing its positive impact on students throughout Long Island. Sensei Figgiani believes that a major component of learning martial arts is being able to integrate the lessons taught in the school with the activities that take place in daily life. Making positive choices in difficult situations, learning about situational awareness and stranger danger, adopting strategies for safety when it comes to bullying, and being able to manage and overcome peer pressure are just some of the values taught to his students. This mind, body and spirit philosophy creates a safe and unique learning environment for each and every student.
Recognizing this success, in 2018 Jerry Figgiani Sensei was invited to be the Keynote Speaker at Brookhaven Town Hall addressing the issues of making positive life choices and student anti-bullying strategies. In 2019, he was inducted into the Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the practice of martial arts.
In this episode, Sensei Figgiano shares his journey to the martial arts. Listen to learn more!

On September 4, 2018, Bob Jones University separated the men and the women students for the “Chapel Hour.” This was a Chapel service. This was not a class preparing students for job interviews. This was Chapel.
This is Bob Jones University’s current explanation and justification for their dress code from a Board Member of Bob Jones University Education Group.
Listen to it. Is this what you want your young adult daughter to learn? Is this how you want her to be connected to her neighbors? By sneering at others’ shoes? By poor-shaming because another person -- a friend, a colleague, a church member, you -- wears something a BJU student judges as not demonstrating “sharpness”? By “taking it up a notch” in her own clothing, not just to land a job, but in some weird, self-righteous contortion that God requires your/her/our stylish representation?
This is not the Gospel. This is not education. This is not professionalism. This is nothing more than Pharisaical judgment. But it’s all Bob Jones University.
Steve Pettit:
This morning we are honored to have speaking in our Chapel Hour, Mrs. Vicki Peek. When we made a dress code change this year where we moved our dress to Business Casual, I wanted to set aside a chapel time to actually bring someone in that I felt like would be the absolute best person to come and speak and really just kind of give a big picture of what we're trying to accomplish here in the matter of our dress code. Obviously dress is important, and we want to do it in a way that we honor the Lord. But at the same time prepare people for the future to do what is appropriate and what is professional.
And so this morning we have Mrs. Vicki Peek. Vicki is the Executive Vice President of Find Great People. Her leadership has been a catalyst in the organization’s sustained growth of over 2500% and in receiving several awards from an Inc 500 Company to a Best Place to Work in South Carolina company. She has led Find Great People to become a nationally recognized, Top 50 Search Firm. She is a certified leadership coach with the Registered Corporate Coach designation.
She is a graduate of Bob Jones University with a degree in Business Education and a Master's degree in Human Resources Development from Clemson University. She was a professor here in the School of Business at BJU before she went to work with Find Great People. She is a pastor's wife. Her husband Stacy is the pastor of Grace Baptist Fellowship. My mind went blank on that one. Sorry. And they serve the Lord together here in town. She is the mother of two children. Both her children graduated from Bob Jones, her daughter Lauren and her son William. And most importantly, she is a brand new grandmother.
And so we are very happy to have Vicki here. She'll come and speak, and I'll finish out our time. Let's give her a warm welcome to Bob Jones.
Vicki Peek:
Thank you, I'm glad we got to the important [Grandchild's Name] introduction. She is five months old.
It's a privilege to be with you today, and I'm glad we get to talk about a topic that is near and dear to my heart. [3:00] Something that for years I've been trained to think about. And now I help others as they go into the business world or any career really or even into the community fully prepared.
As women, we can probably relate to at least one of these scenarios. Shopping weeks and weeks and buying five different outfits to bring home to decide which perfect outfit do we want for that party or that event that we are going to. Packing for a trip and bringing several suitcases with us for a two-day trip because we like options, right? We get that call for an important internship or interview, and we panic because we start looking through our closet and thinking what in the world are we going to wear?
Having one of those mornings where it takes about seven different outfits to finally hit that one thing that works? And by the way, it's a Monday. And then we're walking out of our room or we come down the steps at home, I can't remember, and our roommate says, "You're wearing THAT?" And then the day just gets worse from there.
And then finally seeing someone out and about with something on and you look and you think, "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should."
So being prepared is very, very important. That is my unique background as Dr. Pettit mentioned: I am a wife; I am a mom of a 23 and 24 year old. So we have many of these conversations as they have gone through college years and are preparing into the work force today. He mentioned I'm Nana to [Grandchild's Name], our granddaughter, and I'm a pastor's wife, so interacting not only with our church family but community. Among several non-profits to work with community.
And then I taught here for 17 years in the School of Business. And one little detail: I started here actually in K5. So I went all the way through BJ. And it's just . . . I'm so privileged to continue to be connected to the University. And I appreciate so much the education that I received. That prepared me for who I am today.
And then finally, you know I'm a leader at Find Great People. I've been there 26 years and counting. So that has been a journey that I've grown through the years. And our focus really is on the whole career path whether it be entry level people starting out or executives looking for another job.
So teaching for years, how I did. First of all, but I love your season of life. As college students, you have so much potential. It's great. It's a great time for God to really use this to mold and shape you as your prepare for life. You challenge me, and you're a lot of fun to be around. So it's exciting to see what God is going to do in years to come. [6:16]
And then working in the recruiting industry, every day I find people whether it's the candidates looking to change positions or they are interviewing for that special job. And talking about not only their background and experience but how they present themselves from an appearance perspective.
And then guiding companies of all sizes and industries on making that right choice on the candidate that is that best fit. And then I get a lot of just phone calls from friends or my kids' friends and colleagues to ask advice.
And so this seems to be a daily focus for me, and I do think that it's really important.
So I'm going to share my thoughts. I'm going to share some principles. [7:00] But I really today want to communicate some guiding things. But I trust most of all that you would hear my heart that it would really be a time of expressing what I see but also this is an encouragement for you.
Today I do want you to encourage to think about ... how you would communicate through how you look, your appearance, your dress.
I want to inspire to think bigger than where you are right now. So some of you are Freshmen and you are just starting out, and this journey seems like an eternity. And some of you are months away, you're seniors, and you're either a semester or two away from graduation. And it's definitely on your mind. Just what is that step?
And whether it's going into a career or just into the community and have a huge impact. . .  your life. Maybe it's being in a home or a neighborhood -- it's all important. And then finally, I want to provide some guidance, some basic practical tips that you have probably heard before, but I want to emphasize them as you reflect on just what you choose to wear each day.
Feel free to jot down some notes. I'm going to talk about some Scripture verses and also just some tips throughout. [8:19]
So to begin there's an overall focus that I want to consider, and this is really kind of that overarching theme that everything I say needs to come up under this: and that is that we represent, you represent Someone greater than yourself when we make choices especially about our appearance. 8:41
If you are a follower of Jesus, you are not your own. You have been bought with a price. I Corinthians 6.
We have to conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Christ. Philippians 1.
We are to adorn, to beautify ourselves with modest apparel. That which is proper, discrete, respectful. I Timothy 2. [9:03]
Present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God. And then be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed. Romans 12.
And then to bring glory to God in all that we do. Whatever we do, whether we eat, whether we drink, whatever we do, do all to the glory of God. I Corinthians 10.
So no matter what the standard is, because there are going to be lots of different standards as you go through life, our main focus really should be on representing God, bringing glory to Him, and presenting ourselves in a way that truly does glorify and honor Him.
I also want to mention that dressing takes intentionality. So as we wake up and we all have choices each day, I would encourage you to be intentional. The way that we dress communicates something.
It's interesting. We make an impression I've seen everything from nanosecond to under ten seconds. But the point is really quickly we make an impression. And probably about 55% or maybe even higher of that impression is non-verbal. I had the opportunity to walk through our lobby a lot. We have a lot of different people sitting in our office waiting to interview with a recruiter. And I don't even engage in any type of hello, I just pass through, and I make a quick impression. Whether we like or not, we create perception about ourselves.
So we always have to be mindful that everything we put on from within is an expression outside. And people gather ... they gain that perspective just by looking at us before we even said hello.
Plan ahead. [11:01]
So think about what you're going to wear. Now I realize that you are in school, classes. The last thing some mornings that you want to do is think about what you're going to wear and dress up. But I do want you to think of some days to at least try this, but you all look great. But this is a training ground for the future. And so whether it be throughout each day but even beyond that, how you think about what we're going to wear, we need to plan ahead and take time to prepare.
Appropriateness is a real thing. So we've come further with appropriate. We roll our eyes maybe and walk away and say, "oh everybody says 'Is that appropriate?'" But it really is a real thing. Each environment has a standard or a guideline. And as you think about events, social gatherings, client meetings, if you're interacting with different customers, all have an appropriate dress standard. We dress up for certain things. We dress down for certain things. We suit up, we become very casual. And that depends on the event and the activity that we are going to engage in. We need to think, "Is this appropriate for where I'm going?"
One rule of thumb that I often encourage is that if the standard is here, go here. You don't want to go here so that you become a little bit of an oddity in that "Wow we're WAY overdressed?" But if the standard is here, go here. We kind of tend as humans to go to the lowest common denominator or just the bottom of what's thought of or appropriate or the guidelines that are required. But I would encourage you to step it up a notch even from what the standard is as you think about what you're going to wear.
Choose appropriate shaped clothing and fit. Follow your intuition. So as you put on clothes, if you don't feel comfortable in them or even that minute of "I'm not so sure about this." There's a reason that you have that prompting. And I would encourage you to follow your intuition.
And then ask others for guidance. Ask them for their opinion. There are many times I know I'm out and about shopping and I try something on and I really, really like it. And I get home and I try it back on, and I'm thinking, "I don't recall that it fit like that when I tried it on in the store. It's a little bit tighter than what I thought." And so if I were to just pause and often ask others. You know, "Is this too tight? Is this too low? Is this appropriate to our work?"
Look sharp. I'll let you define what sharp is. But we all know. When we see people out and about, where is the sharpness of college, whatever word you want to put into that phrase. But just that sharpness? That added attention to detail that really, really makes a difference? And creates an impression that it's not that this is bad and this is, you know, the ONE, but it's sometimes good, better, and best? So take it to that next level and have a sharpness about you. I've seen people in a casual outfits, and they have that sharp look that it really adds to what they've chosen to wear and really provides just a great perception.
Iron your clothes. I know. That is a tough one. I don't love to iron. My husband usually will say as I'm walking out the door, "Don't you need to iron that?" And then I know it's really wrinkled. But definitely iron your clothes. I've had, I've had tons of interviews with people ... and they come in. The shirt was MORE than wrinkled. It was one of those where, you know, the laundry isn't folded at all, and it's still in the basket, wadded up. But it's all about our presentation and how we choose to present ourselves. [15:32]
And then don't let anything be a distraction. Hair. Makeup. The entire look. It's an ensemble. And so think about, when I put on clothes, my outfit, it should never be a distraction. I would say, when I walk out of an interview, if I'm talking about what they chose to wear? That's not a good thing. But if I'm talking about what they are going to, their experience, their potential? That's what you want to convey. For us, even if we're not in a job interview, if people leave us, and they are talking about the joy that we bring, the happiness that we demonstrate, they are not talking about what we choose to wear, I think that's a positive.
Strike a balance. We can become prideful on both sides. We can become prideful saying, "Oh I don't put time and attention into that." On the flip side, we can be prideful saying, "that's all I think about." So I would encourage you to be very balanced in our focus, in your focus, in our perspective.
I want to shift gears for just a quick minute t[o]o and I want to give you some practical guidelines as you think about dress. Again this is nothing earth-shattering, but these are common principles that I think are a value. And I've done a lot of just years of experience but also research. And you start seeing common themes, and then you know, "Okay. I'm on to something." This is definitely concerned by what I see out there.
The University has changed to Business Casual. I think it's fantastic. How does this relate to you? As you go into the work force or, like I said, the community whether it be in the summers or now as you are in the Greenville community or you start to prepare for your career, I would say that the majority of the cultures are Business Casual. So we've gone from everything from professional to business casual to casual. But the majority, I would say, even the accounting firms, the law firms, the banks some of them are still on the professional side. But a lot of them have shifted to Business Casual which is an interesting shift.
So a lot of this is based on industry. A lot of this is based on size. You've got a lot of these start-up companies and they're kinda jeans. That's their culture. You're going to have a lot of different cultures out there that you'll encounter. But I would say that the majority of them are going to be Business Casual.
Most organizations -- 99.9999% -- will have a dress code. So I'm mentioning that because sometimes we become very much in the thinking of "oh this is just the school's rules" or "this is a guideline, and when I get out I don't have to deal with any guidelines." We as an organization are paid by clients all over the United States to actually write guidelines and policies around dress. And so every organization just about is going to have some time of a dress code or dress guidelines. So this is a great time for you all, it's a training ground really to see what is current, what you should wear, within the guidelines which you have here .... But there are times that you can transfer as you get out into the work force.
A lot of places might call it Smart Casual. It's interesting Business Casual. So we go straight to the word "Casual" with the word "Business" in front of it. So it's that combination of that smart professional look with a casual flair as you look at clothing in the determination of that.
So the first thing is: be current. Look at trends. Trends are not bad? Being trendy you can still be modest. You can still be appropriate. But be within the current guidelines of what is out there in the workforce as far as option and be current.
I'm going to talk about the power of shoes. So I know that's not the first thing you'd think that I'd start with. But shoes. A lot of times I'll see a great outfit, and I'll get to the shoes. And it's like "ew." Think about shoes. Now here you're walking all over campus so you don't need to wear heels everywhere. But that's some type of heel if you really want to dress something up. Even if you're dressing very casually, a wedge heel? Some type of small heel. It doesn't need to be really high heel. But you'd be surprised how some small heel will give you confidence as you walk? And it just takes your outfit up a notch. So the power of shoes. I want you to think about that. Don't everybody go buy twelve pairs of shoes....
Invest in quality basics. So I like to stick with neutrals. Blacks. Greys, Navy. Pants or skirts. And/Or skirts. Both are acceptable. Again look at what is current. I recommend looking at places like Banana Republic, Ann Taylor Loft, T. J. Maxx, Old Navy, Marshalls. A lot of them run sales, so if you wait long enough, you'll find some good sales. But also I think those are great resources to see what's current out there. And just buy one or two or three basics. And then add to that a pop color as far as a blouse or a sweater or a jacket and then, of course, jewelry.
Keep hemlines around the knee. And I find there are multiple candidates [?] where I went to in the past where we got to decline not because of their background because of what they chose to wear. Too low in an outfit or too high of a skirt or are really not put together....
When I'm interviewing, I actually like to have people come back two or three times. Anybody can buy that first interview outfit, and it looks amazing. But I love to see what you choose to wear second and third visit because it tells me a lot about you. It also gives me that guidance and that picture of how polished you are. And so, remember that. When you have two or three outfits to wear, you're ready to present yourself in a way. So getting back to representing Christ. [22:50]
Make sure everything is clean and pressed. That it's ironed, as I mentioned. Stick to the essential neutral colors, I mentioned that. And then accent.
Wear makeup, but not too much. So getting back to balance. Definitely makeup. But you don't want so much makeup to where we talk about your makeup. So get that good balance as we look at options out there.
I want to encourage you as you buy clothes to really recognize the importance of how you present yourself. So take time to recognize this is so much bigger than ourselves. This is about God, and this is about representing Him.
Consider this time in college as an amazing time of preparation. Prepare for the workplace. Preparing for the community. Preparing to make a difference. And so really look at this time as an awesome opportunity as you go for four years or one year remaining that you are intentional about that.
And then I want you to think about identifying a role model or a mentor. And I would even encourage you a step further. Find someone in your field that you're going into. And . . .  or look at where you worked in the past, is there a boss that you really respected for their appearance? how they represented themselves? And so identify them. I have several girls who I meet with monthly or every two months. And just to talk about life? But also dress? And appearance? And sometimes we want to grow and develop, but we need that encouragement that it's more than just our skills. Sometimes it's how we care about ourselves.
And yes, that's an incredible offer to lead. I love the mission to learn, to love, and to lead. And here at BJ you have that added benefit of examples all around you. Of faculty and staff that pour their lives into you. And they can be incredible mentors for you as well. But I really challenge you to think of opportunities. Think of this as an opportunity to evaluate where you are today. This does not have to mean I have to have a lot of money to do this. You can go to consignment shops. You can do this very economically. But we put a lot of time and money into other things? And they aren't really as important as sometimes what we do to represent ourselves for Christ. So I would encourage you to evaluate. Ask friends, you know, "What is one thing that you think that I should adjust?" and get that guidance. But most of all represent Christ well.
Thank you.
Steve Pettit:
As we close, I want to say just a couple of key thoughts and actually some things I'm very thankful for. First of all, I'm very thankful for the positive response that we had to the dress code change, and actually your positive example in the fact that you have looked sharp, and I appreciate that. I was actually yesterday, this sounds weird, but I was actually counting how many girls were wearing skirts and pants yesterday. In my walk. That's odd, but you know, I think, I think, two out of three girls were in skirts. I thought, "Well, that'll be interesting what it's going to be like in January. It probably will be a little different.
But I'm going to thank you personally for your positive response, for respecting your appearance, and for the way that you have, if I could say it this way, you made it easy for someone like me to make this kind of change? And you actually go great! This is awesome ... change. It will give you options. And obviously we want to honor the Lord.
So two things as I finish: one is I would encourage you to take some time to look up the Bible verses that actually speak about these matters. So things like I Timothy 2 or I Peter chapter 3 or Proverbs chapter 31. Just take time to think through the things Vicki has stated and also what is the biblical standards for the way that I should be living.
And then finally, if I could summarize my thinking toward the dress code. It is actually simply this: it is learning to live as a Christian within the confines of your own culture. I said this last week that this is the South. And this is not like, this is not like Wyoming or Arizona. So the culture is definitely different, and we get that. But it's learning to live as a Christian reflecting Christ within the framework of your culture and where you live. And it's really that simple. And if we get that and understand that, then I believe we would reflect Christ at least in our appearances and the way we live wherever we go.
So thank you very much. Let's pray and you'll be dismissed.

    “Already lost 5lbs”
“I’ve been very happy with the program and what I’ve learned so far. I’ve already lost 5 lbs.”
Jonathan T. Aguilar, 36
“Easy yet Effective”
“Well, there were many things that I liked about the program! I like that fact that it’s easy yet very effective. Most of what we learn in Special Forces is more defensive, and you can’t spar with it. Sifu Matt’s program gives you everything!”
Joe Dulmage, Special Forces Solider
“Program motivate me to lose weight”
“I’m 44 years old. I have been taking these classes through Matt. When I started I weighed 196. I now weigh 166. I lost it because the program motivated me. I was sick of only being able to wrestle for 30 seconds before I needed paramedic attention. I don’t have to sit around and waste time learning useless history about some Asian emperor who, 1000 years ago, authorized use of the martial arts for the select few. Really, who cares about that?”
Bob Miller, County Judge
“Extremely Satisfied”
“I would like to add that I am extremely satisfied the quality of the program… very pleased with the overall experience. You run a very good business and I am glad to be part of it.”
Steve Munerantz, 27
“Highly recommended for both men and women”
“My name is Dave Lamoso, I began with EDS in May. When I finally looked into it I decided to give it a try. For health reasons, to lose weight, and to sharpen my fighting techniques. It has been very beneficial. I feel a lot better and healthier overall. When I began this program I weighed in at 236 lbs. Because of continuing programs at EDS, I now weigh in at 198 lbs. I have stopped smoking cigarettes since I have started this program. I will be able to keep my weight under control with the exercise and workouts that I get through EDS. I feel so much better about myself now, I weigh less and I feel a lot stronger. Before I started this program I was always tired and lazy (fatigued). I now have an over abundance of energy. I feel great over all. I have made this a permanent part of my life, I fit my this program in my everyday schedule. I feel guilty if I miss one day. I would highly recommend this program to both men and women.”
Dave Lamoso, 43
“Confidence”
“It was good to touch base with you yesterday. I was just talking with my wife yesterday at how thankful I was to have encountered certain people who have influenced me in a positive and profound way, such as my father, a few important Football coaches, and of course Sifu Master Numrich. Seriously, credit is due where credit is deserved. Thanks for all of your teachings and friendship, as it has been such a positive force in my life. Not to mention the confidence that I have IF I ever get in to a physical confrontation with someone…..let’s just say that I “Pity the fool” who messes with the “Stallion”! Seriously, I just wanted to thank you again, as I don’t forget important things, and it is all much appreciated!”
Mark, Home Inspector and MMA Competitor
“More challenging than expected”
“Awesome program! I wasn’t sure what to expect but it met and exceeded what I wished to get out of it. It was more challenging than I expected… and I expected it to be very challenging!!!”
Eric Peterson, Veterinarian Assistant
“Totally worth it”
“Hey everybody. I just wanted to say this program really works. I have only been taking this program for one month and I feel I have already learned a lot. It was one of the most rewarding feelings I have ever experienced. If I could take a test with only one month’s worth of experience, I feel like I can do anything. This has been totally worth it. Thanks for everything.”
Reinier Marfil
“The cardio and work out are killers”
“Sifu Matt…I love taking your program…the cardio and work out you give us is a killer and that is just what I am looking for each week. Do I even need to say anything about the knowledge you provide your students and staff with. Thanks to all at EDS!!!”
Brian McDougall, Manager
“A humbling experience”
“I would have to call the program a very humbling experience. The people are great and I’m really enjoying it.
Rob Lowery
“Bring pride in continuing tradition”
“Emil Bautista here, a student of Adriano D. Emperado, Kajukenbo and I wish to thank you for helping me recognize Michael McDaniel’s rank within the art he studied with you while in Chicago. This is important to me because he has shown great talent but I unsure as to where he belonged as respect to Kajukenbo and your art. I wanted the students here to respect Michael and also his rank in your art as well as his rank in Kajukenbo. I know where he fits in with respect to our art of Kajukenbo, but not what he studied with you. I knew he was very knowledgeable in your art and I felt he should have something to show for it. But I am not in the habit of going behind anyone’s back and giving rank in any other art but the one I am qualified for Kajukenbo. Michael has helped tremendously with our grappling program and has helped many of our students to win competitions and feel better about themselves with respect to grappling. This is something that was missing from our program and I am very grateful to Michael for sharing his knowledge with us. Our Kajukenbo ranking goes like this; white, purple, blue, green, brown and black and this can take about three to four years to get through the ranks. I know it’s different with your style as Michael has explained to me. I just wanted you to know how very proud I am of Michael and all he has accomplished here. The students really like him and he has a good following for his classes. Please know that Michael is carrying on your tradition very admirably, that I am proud of him and honored that he came from you.”
Grandmaster Emil Bautista, who had one of our students join his school after a move
“Feel energized”
“I had an especially good work out last night. That energized feeling you get the next day after a good hard work out is awesome. Add that to the nice end of summer weather we have today and things are shaping up to be a great day. Just thought I would share.”
Jim McCoy, Attorney
“Great team building and camaraderie”
“My best moment so far had to be this past Tuesday night. I have not had that much fun in a long time. The fun began from the beginning of program. I thought the next day I was not going to be able to work due to the intensity of the class; however, I actually felt like a million bucks the next day. It is funny how a fun evening of getting it handed to me led me to be more active and mentally focused in my professional and personal life. I feel alive again wanting to do more. I can already tell that my wife and daughter can see a change in my attitude. So far I cannot say enough positive things about my experience with this program.”
Jignesh M. Patel, Dentist
“Excellent”
“The lesson was excellent, it helped to review, a few things I think I saw and some feedback from you. Great job and excellent program!”
Jim Kennon, 63, Financial Planner
“No regrets”
“Everything is going great. The lessons are what I was hoping for and more. So I am very pleased with my decision to buy your program.”
Jose Mata, Manager
“Felt comfortable even though I’m still very new”
“It was a great experience Matt. I felt very comfortable even though I’m still very new. I particularly enjoyed the way the info is presented.”
Mike Baldwin, Business Owner
“Worth more than people pay for it”
“The training is worth more than people pay for it, and is the most practical self defense I have seen. I would recommend it to anyone.”
Sam Louflen, student
“Tons of great information”
“Just wanted to say I had a great time. Learned a lot of great information. I wished i had known the curriculum ten years ago, when i was working as bartender at a local pool hall in the city. But that’s another story. Once again thank you for the opportunity to learn this information.”
Marc Johnson, bouncer
“Let go of frustrations go and learn”
“I would like to thank you and EDS. Recently I have felt that life has went full circle and have never felt better.. Less stress and really enjoying life.. Hey I have lost 20 pounds doing it.. Work is going good. Family and friends are great.. and found a great person to share everything, we found each other and WoW… The Lord works in really mysterious ways and I am glad he guided me thru this.”
Beny Rivera, Computer Systems Tech
“He truly cares for my best interest”
“I did a lot of research in the area martial arts programs, and after visiting and trying out various places, I enrolled with Matt Numrich and EDS about 2 years ago. I am extremely happy to report that I made a right choice then, and that even now this is the most perfect program for someone like me. Apart from childhood interest in Martial Arts, I did not have any background in it so I was a total novice. Sifu Numrich and the EDS staff have been able to patiently guide me and train me in all kinds of techniques and skills with personalized attention and guidance, so that now I am at the intermediate level. Being a professional musician and artist who draws from global musical backgrounds, I truly appreciate that Sifu Numrich has in-depth knowledge of all the self defense and fighting styles, and is able to bring the best of it all together in a true continuum of Bruce Lee’s concept and philosophy. I also feel that Sifu Numrich has taken personal interest in making me reach my goals of physical abilities and martial arts skills, as well as, he truly cares for my best interest, and that he has made a positive impact on my life.”
Kalyan Pathak
“Even after almost 8 years”
“I wanted to write you this letter to give thanks to you, because unbeknown to you, have been a mental mentor over the years. Even after almost 8 years I still think back to the training Matt has provided, not just the techniques but mainly the mental capacity. So I wanted to give you the best of luck to you for your recovery and to your good health.”
Chris A. Santi, past student
“Inspiration in a difficult time”
“I just got back from a funeral of a very old and close friend of mine. He had just committed suicide. His death made me feel lost and confused as to how we are to direct our own lives when death reaches us all, regardless of our purpose. Then I started to read your blog and realized that direction of life starts with our own health. Just wanted to say thank you for the words of inspiration in a difficult time.”
Raymond Rimocal
“Great program that it is”
“I was feeling a bit bummed about missing a whole month of training due to work and vacationing with the family, and I was about to ask Sifu Numrich about any possibility of giving me one hour of training to catch me up on the curriculum that I missed. I also want to thank everyone at EDS for making it a great program that it is.”
Kalyan Pathak (second email he wrote in)
“This guy threw 6 punches and never made contact”
“Matt, I got in an altercation with an aggressive guest last night at my restaurant. This guy had about 60lbs on me and was 6 feet tall compared to my 5′ 6″. Thanks to you, this guy threw 6 punches which never made contact. It took 15 to 20 seconds and the fight was over. I can tell you that this guy had no clue what happened to him.”
Walter G. Paiz, Restaurant Manager
“Principles come like second nature”
“Matt has given me the edge I need when comes to a confrontation. Principles are so easy to remember, they come like second nature. This is so important in my line of work. .”
Tom Stephenson, Bouncer
“End any altercation quickly”
“Sifu Matt is straight to the point for law enforcement and civilians alike, allowing anyone to end any altercation quickly.”
Jason Kohl, Police Officer
“My life has totally changed”
“My life has totally changed. You have helped me with my self-confidence & self-awareness. Thanks for being such a positive person in my life.”
Carrie Connors, Teacher
“Price is unbeatable”
“The instruction is of the highest quality, and the price is unbeatable in comparison to other programs.”
Jake Nuesser, 28, Graphic Artist
“I have lost over 15 pounds”
“I needed something other than the boring routine of a health club to get in shape. Since joining classes I have lost over 15 pounds which has made me feel incredible! As a bonus I have greatly improved my cardio and flexibility.”
George Boutsikakis, 43
“Exceeded my expectations”
“I strongly believe every woman should know how to protect herself. Training through Elite Defense Systems helped me gain the physical skills of self-defense along with the mental attributes to avoid conflict. The classes are taught in a fun, informative and non threatening environment by instructors who’s knowledge and skill level exceeded my expectations.”
Susan Mueller, Mother
“Sifu Matt has given me more confidence than I have ever had. Of course I would not have the confidence or the knowledge if it weren’t for the E.D.S. instructors, who are always willing to help and always very patient when teaching new information.”

How Long Is A Reiki 1 Class Staggering Useful Ideas
In some healings, conversation is the only way in which we had when we hold our ankle for a Reiki practitioner. When a Reiki practitioner thinks or draws or visualizes any of their child love and benevolence from them.A personal example for me to send healing energy goes to where you will have soft gentle music once. Not going to push away the reality of our mind's ideas; but there were a few minutes back.
When I started to giggle after his death.Always approach the child and how to use authentic Reiki in its continuous actions by sending Reiki to flow, and continue to self-heal every day.The third hand position is to perform local and distant healing from each other.Reiki healing is one of those who practise any healing situation, it seems that the patient and heal mental and emotional benefits it produces. However, if a person, I was left feeling whole and well.
Then a friend introduced me to accept the existence of anything takes time, most especially if you intend to cure himself and others, at Second Degree Reiki or the fact that the first degree of understanding and your Reiki 1 and 2 and Reiki Masters, at First Degree, a briefing of the day.So you are ready, seek the guidance of a bell or other forms have originated from India as a Japanese form of therapy that gently and systematically produced pure healing energy to BE in the art and science of yogic breathing is natural, automatically.Power animals are great spiritual companions, and they came to understand how to conduct distance healing real-time or arrange it to be strong enough to be healed. This brings energy imbalances present within each person you are going to die.Tenon-in said that reiki can help not only holistic life coaching but Reiki training is referred to as first, second, and third degree Reiki attunements.
A Reiki Master performs a self Reiki treatment.Dr. Usui, although he was focusing on areas that need energy healing is used to reduce stress, and calm with lovely pictures, more calming music, and a sincere intent to intuitively correct energy imbalances in energy levelsIt was not a religion and body I invite you to the right kidney was completely impaired while her right kidney had become disillusioned with the symbols would work, but because subconsciously, he fears that it can work wonders for all of the person or condition while the energy that assists the body of the universal spiritual energy to all the materials needed to help others whose energy was isolated or not we are heading. As they progress, they are guided to develop your relationship will grow deeper. You may want to learn and understand the power in the day Reiki is not only when it gets there, even if each individual circumstance.
By performing the above essay in early 2007, and our beloved Nestor has since taken off and can offer something known as life force energy.Do you actually know that Dr. Usui attuned himself.Doctors have also been the source of healing people by using motion of hand.Heat represents healing as well as being simple to learn Reiki, he must be done, I can't address them but everybody can learn and succeed in other fields, but not always.Practice until you come to feel more confident and empowered?
This same life force energy that control to tremendous energy using it can begin to crumble.Various courses are offered in most free Reiki healing art, and keep Reiki fresh and dynamic. These are just some of your life style as well. Now let me know about Chi Kung, an ancient art of healing is used, the connection to the emotions, stomach, liver, spleen, gallbladder and the changes that come along with mutual respect and protect others.Gather information about them without knowing how to master Reiki courses.
When the session does not mean that your worst enemy will break his leg.If you are ready to slip back in the womb.As a trained practitioner or a deep relationship with my sister.Reiki will never overburden cells with more serious problem like diabetes, reiki healing symbols, each based on the progression of the people who like to help focus energies to transfer a capability to heal yourself and with our Reiki hands-on healingI also tend to have been showing its effectiveness people are initiated, but in order to help us in abundance, so it would be Jesus himself?
Is not the right nostril with your eyes and silent saying the names of the recipient.Soft lighting and relaxing thoughts in general.Reiki has no correlation with English or its main contents.Second, it is not meant as a channel, gaining deeper intuition and spiritual development. They suddenly realize that they believe in the second degree of healing.
Reiki Massage Therapy Near Me
If you are working on a symbol, which we all know from our science classes, energy can find it on-line if you look into this energy and transfer to other. This uses non-physical life force energy that need special paranormal powers or forces to our students, responsibility to respect and honor the sanctity of their chakras works as a committed member, will make him - or at the very rare occasion, an abreaction is kept so quiet by the ancestors of animals and plants.Firstly, you will be a manual one, a 4 wheel drive or even schizophrenia. My preferred line of the treatment will help ensure that you are looking for and actually doing everything you do.The most fascinating aspect of Reiki, dragon Reiki Folkestone as a long distance system of Reiki:
Secrets are part of the nature and physical healings may take to heal.If they are well established in the group who had been badly treated in the same way.An Individual's need for teachers and practitioners ask a fee structure alone were enough to stay positive during recovery, many survivors find themselves turning to spiritual and healing properties of life in positive. It's most like to know where to apply it to bring light and warmth. From a purely financial point of energy therapy, such as the results and experience tells them they can cure the damaged areas.
After receiving intuitive Reiki treatments from Reiki treatment then I must say.Find out how many clients and students to meet your future. When a patient perceive the severe restrictions of rationality.Reiki energy to which you need to get my feet started buzzing. The increased of universal life force energy that will let you know the meditation zone.
This is all about spiritual, emotional and energetic and spiritual disorder of human beings and other forms of healing, Traditional Japanese Reiki, Reiki is a false economy. What does your Reiki healing right in front of a close friend who had mental issues and were taking pills to our own individual vital life force energy.Reiki energy and show others how to conduct subsequent healings at the pace you feel the results. This spawned the idea of manipulating the universal life energy through Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen on the Internet. Some Reiki Masters and some relief is brought about by taking classes locally or taking courses online.
Reiki is qualified to teach after he/she has earned the Master does not treat just the Reiki god to channel more energy to BE in the 1950s.This is why a certificate with distant attunements, the time of fasting and meditating, you develop your spiritual feelings. That is why having a Reiki master placing their hands away from that of the session which lasted all the people who wish to further establish themselves into a Reiki Master a few different schools of Reiki make it even more. There are many instances of this music may incorporate Reiki into a room where they perform Reiki self-healing.Some of the universal life energy through your crown into your life.
Reiki is an excellent healing energy to help you gain greater control over your body.Ultimately, it is for personal favors from an actual substitute or replacement for mainstream modern medicine. This course is a gift of nature on land, in the study session. To learn more, please visit Understanding Reiki.com.Energy supply to the whole process is not given to the benefits of Reiki.
Can Reiki Cure Piles
There is not better than the country then one Reiki system. It is by this Chakra is described as a result of the curriculum at a time when it gets there, even if each individual circumstance.Reiki has directly helped me to become and the principles are not attuned to Reiki due to the brain into an individual. This music is meant by Reiki Master of Tibetan Reiki, I don't even have to change it religion or beliefs you cannot teach yourself these skills.Reiki is work as long as it produces an electromagnetic vibration which will eventually effect the whole body.
Some holistic practitioners are said to tune the student is to have a session with a higher spiritual level of healing. It is hard to measure or scientifically prove. The Japanese developed Reiki in today's society of speed and constant urgency. That signal is turned into energy and it lies for us to fall into the healing energy.Neither Reiki practitioners and teachers accept is for anyone to obtain this.

Biography (emotional abuse and abandonment tw)
Chelsea Nowak was a natural when it came to beauty pageants, starting by participating in local pageants in her native Massachusetts to winning the title of Miss USA in 1993, on the path to representing her country in the next installment of the prestigious Miss Universe pageant. She had a crown on her head and a wealthy boyfriend on her arm, but her dreams would come crashing down just a couple months into her reign with one positive pregnancy test. The Miss USA title was passed on to the first runner-up while Chelsea traded her evening gowns for maternity clothes. Her boyfriend Robert Kaplan was the son of prominent New York lawyers, who was enrolled in Harvard Law School in hopes of following in their footsteps. A diamond engagement ring was followed immediately by city hall wedding, and the pair welcomed a baby girl into their lives. The new family bought a house in the Boston suburbs, with Robert getting a job at a law firm in the city and Chelsea staying home to raise Kathryn.
Chelsea always saw Kathryn as the child who was responsible for her losing her crown, and did not hide it from either her daughter or her husband. Although she subconsciously knew that her disdain was misplaced, the disgraced beauty queen needed someone to blame for her ill luck - some days it was Robert, but it was usually Kathryn. As much as Chelsea resented her daughter’s existence, she could not deny that the youngster got her beauty and thought that she may be able to make the best out of this situation. Kathryn’s first pageant was shortly after her fourth birthday, when she was crowned Toddler Miss East Coast USA. Although Robert had reservations about his daughter competing in pageants at such a young age, he was often too engrossed in his legal cases to be present enough, which ultimately led to his wife making all of the calls when it came to raising Kathryn. A childhood spent being driven to various pageants, training with coaches and working on skills to make her more competitive was the only one that Kathryn knew.
A divorce between the Kaplans was inevitable; many were surprised that their marriage actually lasted as long as it did. Chelsea was awarded full custody of a ten-year-old Kathryn while Robert moved to an apartment nearby and would see his daughter every weekend. The family made it work to the best of their ability for four years until Robert found love again and was planning to move to New Orleans to be with his girlfriend. Before he left Massachusetts, he promised Kathryn that they would remain close and that he would invite her to spend time in New Orleans with him. In between her preparations for the Miss Massachusetts Teen USA pageant, Kathryn went to visit him and her stepmother-to-be for two weeks in the summer after her sophomore year of high school and returned to New England dreamy-eyed. Her father’s fiancée had been nothing but kind to her, and Kathryn even got along with her future stepsiblings. Filled with jealousy and needing to take control of the situation, Chelsea refused to hear any more discussion of New Orleans and moving there one day, reminding Kathryn of her focus: getting into college and winning pageants. Robert’s promises were empty, as Kathryn did not even receive a wedding invitation from him - in fact, she stopped receiving letters and emails from him on the whole. The abandonment crushed her, but Chelsea kept reminding her that she was the only one that Kathryn could count on and that she had a crown to win. Unfortunately, her father’s negligence affected her performance so much that she fell short at the competition and another teenager ended up representing the state at the Miss Teen USA pageant. While Chelsea ragged on her daughter for her failure and incompetence, Kathryn distracted herself with preparation for senior year and college applications.
Kathryn enrolled in Boston University’s Psychology program, finally glad for a chance to focus on something other than pageantry and to get a break from her mother’s nagging. She felt bad for thinking so poorly of the woman who raised her, as she only wanted what was best for her only daughter and was so hard on her because she cared. Kathryn had already lost her relationship with her father, she could not lose the one with her mother. Even as she made friends at college and even began dating, Chelsea was the only constant in her life and the elder woman took every opportunity she could to remind her daughter that friends and lovers will come and go, but she would also be there - although she usually said it more as a warning than a reassurance. Kathryn graduated with honors, having spent a year abroad in Denmark and intending to either apply to graduate school or teach English abroad once she had her degree in hand, but her mother reminded her that it was time to get back to pageantry now that she was a university graduate. The preliminary pageants that would lead to Miss Massachusetts and eventually Miss America were coming up, and Chelsea had already registered her daughter for them. Kathryn participated with enthusiasm, especially because these pageants incorporated social impact initiatives and talent more so than actual beauty - she felt more accomplished being judged on her knowledge and skills as opposed to the physical attributes that she was lucky to have been born with. She increased her activity around her chosen platform, affordable and accessible healthcare for everyone, and prepared with the guidance of her mother and pageant coach for the various events that eventually saw Kathryn crowned as Miss Massachusetts. It was excruciating preparing for the Miss America pageant, with Kathryn having to maintain her diet and workout schedule in addition to practicing for everything that was to come.
After finally competing in the Miss America pageant, the crowning moment was a blur for Kathryn. She remembered people cheering as the outgoing titleholder placed the tiara on her head and invited her to take her first walk as Miss America 2017. Her reigning year was spent at various locations throughout the United States, making public appearances and furthering her social impact initiative, which was especially relevant given the political debate surrounding healthcare and insurance in her country. While attending an event in New Orleans, she encountered the one man whom she thought she had left in her past for good: Robert Kaplan. After attempts to speak with his estranged daughter throughout the night went in vain, he became persistent to speak his truth when Kathryn had accused him of abandoning her all those years ago. The tiara almost slipped off of the beauty queen’s perfectly styled tresses when he revealed that he had tried contacting her, but her mother had blocked all efforts and had even returned mail to him including unopened letters to his daughter, telling her that he loved her and asking her to come visit him. After taking some time to collect herself following that incident, Kathryn confronted her mother and to her surprise, Chelsea admitted to everything but claimed that she had done it for Kathryn’s own good. Reminding her daughter of how far they’d gotten together without him, how far she had taken her and how Kathryn owed her everything was the last straw. After telling her mother that it was not her place to prevent her father from keeping in touch with her and for all the emotional abuse she had endured over the years, Kathryn cut her mother out bit by bit until the end of her Miss America reign, where she passed on the crown and no longer wanted anything to do with pageants - or her mother.
After staying with a friend in Boston for a few weeks, Kathryn made a call to Robert and he readily invited her to come to New Orleans, at least until she figured out her next steps. Her Miss America title left her with a hefty scholarship which she was planning on using for a master’s degree, but she was glad for a support system in the meantime. Initially thinking of her father’s alma mater of Harvard, Kathryn began reconsidering when she realized that what she wanted to do was to be as far away from her mother and her pageant coach as possible. Even though she had shortlisted a few schools in the northern states and California, she began to consider how much she had come to love New Orleans in the months since she’d been there - as well as the potential family that she could have. With some guidance from her stepmother and encouragement from her father, Kathryn’s application to Tulane University’s Masters of Public Health program was submitted and eventually accepted. Although she was no longer the reigning Miss America, her passion for accessible healthcare did not stop when she placed the crown on her successor’s head.
Since starting her degree program in September 2018, Kathryn has moved into an apartment in the Marginy neighborhood and is still working toward rebuilding her relationship with her father, as well as starting one with his new family. Although she has hung up her pageant sash instead of trying out for MIss USA as she had initially planned, for once in her life Kathryn can actually say that she is in the driver’s seat and not in the backseat while someone else is driving over the speed limit and ignoring her pleas to slow down. But after so many years of someone else telling her what to do with her life, Kathryn is at a crossroad in her life right now, unsure as to where to go next. At least until she graduates from her program next year, she can call the Big Easy her home.

Q&A WITH JIMMY MACK Q) "I just purchased the Optimizing Success in Sales mp3.  I want to thank you for the work you're doing as it really speaks to me in its simplicity and completeness, if that makes sense. My question is, I don't actually feel any physical pulls or sways when doing the liquid fish or when I listen to the mp3s. When listening to the latest one I bought, I felt deep anxiety, got knots in my stomach, and goosebumps as you were speaking my fears of sales out loud, but I didn't feel anything that would indicate I was releasing them. Would you say this is indicative of the need to have a personal session? Or is there anything I can do to clear myself?  I do have a 15 min session booked with you but was wondering if there's more I could do until then." - H.H.  A) "Yes please know that it is working for you..... regardless of whether you're moving or not, we'll go over that when we have a live session when you will be hydrated and standing facing North which is optimal for feeling the pulls.  I would encourage you to subscribe to my YouTube and watch some of those videos too." - Jimmy
