happy tauniversary
this post is kind of late, because i was out with my kid all day at the corn maze.
a lot has changed since we started TAU
ten years ago I had been in maryland all of two months. my then-fiancee and i had moved from texas, where we both had lived our entire lives. i was not only planning our wedding (in texas!) but i was also starting my ph.d.
to say that i had a lot going on would be a huge understatement.
i had just gotten into gravity falls via tumblr- shout out to whoever made a gif set from 'the hand that rocks the mabel'- when i ran across zoey's original two to three posts. to this day i couldn't entirely tell you why my brain seized on this au, other than it did and it immediately went into hyperfocus mode.
before TAU, i hadn't really written any fanfic except for some discworld au and some drabbles here and there. but a post about future niblings really inspired me and before i knew it i was writing.
i started messaging @zillychu a LOT and god bless their heart they humored me and answered back. after about a month of accumulated posts they created the blog and began to mod it with @homebeccer and @ghostfiish . There was a brief period where @zillychu was thinking about stepping back from the blog and because i was an extremely over eager beaver, i practically kicked down the door of their inbox and begged to be a mod.
the rest, as they say, is history.
i had absolutely zero idea that this would last ten years. when i joined, i had no idea that we'd have a skype channel and then two (two!) discords, that there would be a wiki, that there would be fanvids and tiktoks and cosplay and of course the literal terabytes of fic and art.
to this day, it still thrills me to no end that y'all make art and fic of my OCs. never in my wildest dreams as a tiny baby weeb would i have ever thought that THAT would be a possibility.
a lot has changed for me in these ten years. i got married. i recently got divorced. i had a baby, and now that baby is a big girl and in kindergarten. it took dont-ask-how-long but i finally got the ph.d and now shamelessly introduce myself as Dr. Seiya everywhere i go.
and i made friends. @haberdashing and @avafalls from our early days (hey habby and avagator!) @skia-oura sent me a beautiful baby kimono from their home in Japan and I still have the beautiful log and flower arrangement @oreramar made me one christmas. (the hot chocolate is long gone lol) i've enjoyed so very deeply getting to know @toothpastecanyon, @feferipeixes and @avespecora (sorry i missed the eclipse!) i almost got detained at the canadian border for @marypsue (spoiler alert, don't tell canadian immigration you're staying with a friend from the internet but you don't know their home address)
the blog almost got deleted. we've had mods come and go as life happens and moves on. the blog is old enough i've been able to see trends happen, and characters become popular, fade away... then coming roaring back again. i've personally told the mods two times that i was stepping back from the blog For Real For Real (for real this time) because life was catching up to me and I just wasn't as in to it as I used to be only to come slinking back like the dirty liar I am. i see in your notes all the time that you all have been reading this since you were tweenagers which ngl does make me feel the cold breath of the grave on my mid-thirties back but also warms my heart.
@transcendence-au changed my life, and for the better.
thank you @zillychu for making a random one off hc post that exploded into something i don't think you could have ever predicted.
and thank you all (yes, you. you in the back. i like your shirt.) for your support and your love.

A World Tinted Gold | Mingyu; Chapter Two
Kalon; beauty that is more than skin-deep
streamer!y/n x werewolf!mingyu
notes; werewolf au
word count; 1749
previous | next | masterlist
summary; The only werewolves you encountered were the ones living inside your video games. They were nothing more to you than mythical creatures you often had to kill in order to complete objectives. You had a good thing going with your online gaming setup. Your supporters were kind and usually tipped well during streams. Sure it meant you had to deal with the occasional creep sliding into your DMs, but it was worth it. Playing games online was putting you through college. Little did you know your quiet life was about to be turned upside down at the hands of someone you didn’t think existed outside of the virtual world.
»»————- ♡ ————-««
“Are you seriously watching that steamer again? Why don’t you just play the games yourself?” Seungcheol questioned as he stepped into Mingyu’s room, chuckling as the younger wolf quickly turned around and blushed.
“It’s not the same… I’m not really interested in the games, I’m interested in her” Mingyu admitted sheepishly, reaching up to scratch the back of his neck. He didn’t know what it was about you that made him so transfixed, but he had a hard time tearing his eyes from the screen. Hell, just the other day when you read his comment aloud, he was over the moon.
“It’s rare for you to show interest in a girl at all” Seungcheol remarked, eyebrow pulled up in question. Until a wolf found its mate there was little reason to get involved with or show interest in others romantically. There were of course some wolves that preferred being unmated; it allowed them to be explorative with their romantic partners. Not all wolves longed to find their mate, and not all wolves would end up finding their mates. He knew destiny had a hand to play in it all, but the thought of never finding who he was supposed to be with made the wolf in him whine. Mingyu wasn’t an unmated wolf that enjoyed exploring his options, he was desperately waiting for the day he met his mate. Right now, Mingyu wasn’t sure if he was simply lonely or if there was something more going on.
“There is just something about her…” Mingyu started, pausing for a second to find the right words, “I just have a hard time tearing my eyes away from the screen. There is something about her that just draws me in” Mingyu explained. He wasn’t doing a very good job at explaining the feelings that bubbled up inside him when he saw you on screen. When he tried to explain it he could never quite describe the feeling that settled over his chest and body, it was a warmth almost like a subtle glow within him.
Seungcheol didn’t comment on it any further as he moved into the room and crossed his arms over his chest. Mingyu knew better than to ignore the alpha, closing his laptop he turned to face Seungcheol fully. Their pack had a different dynamic than most. Normally a thirteen-member pack would be impossible because of the strain it put on the head alpha. It worked for them because while Seungcheol was their main alpha, they had two secondary alphas, Jihoon and Soonyoung. The three of them shared the work of looking after the group and it worked perfectly for them. He liked that the alphas didn’t abuse their power, there was a lot of lenience in the pack and it made for less confrontations.
“Joshua has to head into town tonight and won’t be able to run the perimeter. Would you be alright with doing it?” Seungcheol asked, pursing his lips as he looked down at the younger wolf. Mingyu normally enjoyed running the perimeter, it meant he got to shift and stretch his body, but this time he was a little bit more hesitant with his answer. Mingyu knew that later on tonight you would have a new video posted and he would have to wait even longer to watch it. It seemed like a silly reason, but his heart ached at the thought of not being able to ‘see’ you on screen until early tomorrow morning.
“Sure! I don’t mind” Mingyu answered with a half-smile, Seungcheol never asked him for much so he figured he could help him out with this. Seungcheol breathed a sigh of relief as he leaned back against the wall.
“Thank you, I didn’t really want to be the one stuck doing it again” Seungcheol admitted, the alpha had been on perimeter duty for the past 3 nights and must have been eager for a good night’s sleep. Mingyu smiled and nodded his head a few times, his own wants would just have to be paused for a little while.
Before leaving the room Seungcheol patted him on the shoulder, yawning a little bit as he headed toward what Mingyu assumed was his own room. Mingyu was thankful that Seungcheol’s parents had left him their families pack house. Coming from a family of alpha’s certainly had its perks, and it meant they all got their own rooms.
Once Seungcheol was gone he checked the time, he had roughly 4 hours before he would have to head out.

“I just don’t understand what this trend is supposed to be” you complained to Ciri for probably the 20th time over your video call. Apparently, there was a trend going around among streamers to recreate video games in real life. You hadn’t thought much of it when it first gained popularity, but now Ciri thought it would be a good idea for the two of you to join in on it. Her big plan was a two-part video where the two of you recreated iconic aspects of the Witcher 3 video game. You should have known she would want to do it, she already owned a Cirilla cosplay.
“It’s going to be fun” Ciri reminded you, drawing out the last syllable as she drew a fake scar along her face, effectively transforming herself into the iconic video game character.
“Come on, I even sent you the Yennefer cosplay and everything!” she exclaimed, using her make up brush to point at the camera accusingly. You rolled your eyes as you reached up to adjust the dark black wig that you now wore. To her credit, Ciri had sent you everything you would need to transform yourself into Yennefer of Vengerberg. How she somehow guessed your sizing right you would have no idea. Probably the Witcher powers.
“I wish we lived in the same city” you sighed, leaning your head back and looking up at the ceiling. Things would be so much easier if you and Ciri, and the other girls, didn’t live so far away from one another. But that was the price you paid for finding your friends online.
“Me too” Ciri said with a gentle sigh, setting her make up tools down and picking up her phone, her face coming into full view.
“I sent you the script, I won’t be able to stay on the call with you while we are filming because data rates are crazy, but I know you’ll do amazing” Ciri said with a reassuring smile. You would have to film all of this on your own, which was just a little bit intimidating. Ciri’s script mostly just directed you to do a lot of handwaving and she would add in the ‘magic’ elements later.
“Just find a good spot in the woods and it’ll be perfect” Ciri finished with a nod of her head. You sighed, straightening yourself up and looking down at your phone.
“I’ll call you later on when I’m finished to send you the video” you mumbled, pouting a little bit as you stood and picked up your phone.
“Good luck!” Ciri told you, waving a little bit before ending the call. Great, now you actually had to go do it…
»»————- ♡ ————-««
You were lucky there was quite a bit of woods around where you lived, the problem was going to be trying to get to the woods without anyone seeing the ridiculous clothes you were wearing. You threw on a huge coat, effectively covering up most of the costume. After grabbing the bag with your equipment, you ventured outside, keeping your head down as you walked to avoid drawing attention.
Twenty minutes later you were standing in the middle of a beautiful calm forest. Now that you were here you questioned why you didn’t come out here more often. You couldn’t hear the loud noises that came with living in a bustling city and the air felt fresh on your face. Once you reached a small clearing by a river you laid your things down and took a deep breath, basking in the coolness of the air. Maybe this trend wouldn’t be so bad.
After setting up your camera in a place you were at least half sure wouldn’t result in it falling over, you walked into frame and took a deep breath. You briefly checked your phone to see what Ciri’s notes asked of you, before you began doing your best to follow directions. Your portion of the video wouldn’t be long, but you did re-film it 4 times to try and get your motions to be less stiff.
After forty-five minutes of waving your arms around, you walked back to your camera, picking it up before taking a seat on a nearby log. Reviewing the footage, you winced at how awkward it looked, you seriously hoped that Ciri could work some magic on this because you didn’t have it in you to film it again.
The forest around you was darkening as the day began to draw to a close, but you couldn’t bring yourself to head back right away. The forest was too peaceful and serene. Reaching up you pulled your wig off, stuffing it in your bag as you sighed with relief. You closed your eyes and took a deep breath, focusing in on the sounds of nature around you. Maybe coming to the woods would become a weekly thing for you, like therapy.
A low deep growl broke you out of your trance, your eyes flying open and flickering around to find the source. Your heart hammered against your chest, and your whole body stiffened in fear. A few moments later a dark black wolf emerged from the trees, larger than any wolf you had seen on tv. You could vaguely see blood dripping from its muzzle, and its dark red eyes were focused right on you.
It paused at the edge of the clearing, its lips pulling back to reveal sharp blood-stained teeth. Your breath came quick as you leaned back, unsure if you should run or try and hide behind the log. Both seemed unhelpful in this current situation, but you were really low on options.
The wolf’s body tensed before springing toward you. Your hands instinctively grabbed whatever was nearest to you, which happened to be your very expensive camera, and threw it toward the wolf. This did nothing to deter the predator from its prey, and within seconds the beast was on you.

HC: Going On A Disney Date
Pairing: Bakugou Katsuki x Reader, Kirishima Eijirou x Reader, Kaminari Denki x Reader, Todoroki Shouto x Reader, Midoriya Izuku x Reader
Warnings: None! Just fluffy goodness
Word Count: 1.9K
Summary: Just some headcanons on what spending a day at the parks would be like with your favorite boys. (btw, this is based on the Disney parks in Anaheim!)
A/N: S/O to the discord for indulging me in my Disney obsession :’D Fun fact, when I went to Disneyland for Halloween, I borrowed my friend’s Pikachu kigurumi so that I could lowkey cosplay as Denki LOL
Taglist: @jojosmilktea
♡ ⌒*゚.❉・゜・. ♡ ⌒*゚.❉・゜・。. ♡ ⌒*゚.❉・゜
BAKUGOU KATSUKI
You had to do so much convincing to get him to even go to one park, let alone two
Teases you and smirks saying, “Why do you want to go to some lame theme park? I’m all the fun you need, princess.”
Bakugou ends up giving in to your begging because… how can he resist such a cute face?
He is super whiny in the beginning, literally complaining about every little thing
“Why the fuck is all the shit here so damn expensive?”, “The lines are too fucking long!”
Don’t even bother trying to get him to wear any kind of Mickey Ears either
He thinks it looks adorable on you though, not that he’d admit it
However, after seeing how much fun you were having, he eases up a bit and begins to enjoy himself too
Actually, he ends up becoming more excited than you
Once you start getting tired from all the walking and constant queuing, he mocks you and says “What? You’re tired already? I could keep this up for hours!”
His go-to pose for the ride photos is to flip off the camera
And yes, you guys end up buying a copy of all the pictures because he thinks it’s fucking hilarious
His favorite attraction to go on is Toy Story Midway Mania because he knows he’ll kick your ass and get a higher score than you; or Radiator Springs Racers, so he can win the race and kick other people’s ass
KIRISHIMA EIJIROU
He’s such a child at heart that he was actually the one who asked you to go to Disneyland
Had already bought the tickets in advance because he already knew you’d say yes. You felt kind of bad that he had to spend all that money for both of your tickets
“E-eji, are you sure you don’t want me to pay you back? These tickets must have been so expensive!”
“Don’t worry about it babe, I’ve been saving my allowance to buy us these tickets. I wanted to take you out on a magical date at the happiest place on earth!”
He really was the sweetest boyfriend
On the days leading up to your date, you two start planning out matching outfits, what rides you guys for sure want to go on, and all the new foods you can’t want to try!
The night before, the two of you have a Disney movie marathon, snuggled up on the couch eating popcorn while watching all those childhood classics!
His favorite movie is The Little Mermaid because where else did you think he got the inspiration to dye his hair red? Princess Ariel
Day of, you guys are BEYOND excited
Kirishima wakes up extra early to start getting ready, letting you get in a few more minutes of sleep
Once you get there, the first thing you both do is take a picture in front of Main Street! He pretty much documents your entire trip on his phone, taking candid photos of you being the cutie you were
He makes it his new lockscreen wallpaper
While he was waiting in line to buy some food, you went to the shop and bought a matching pair of Mickey and Minnie ears, wanting to surprise him
Smothered you in smooches because he was so happy you guys were matching head to toe, literally
“Thanks babe! I’m never gonna take this off!”
And he never took his ears off. He wore it all day. How it didn’t fall of his head was a question you had no answer to
You two were the definition of cringey couple; matching outfits, constant PDA
Not that he cared what other people thought. He was happy and you were happy, that’s all that mattered to him
Go-to ride pose is leaning over next to you, grabbing your entire face, and giving you a big kiss on the cheek
Favorite ride is Hyperspace Mountain, loves the thrill of it plus, it makes his hair look extra spikey because the wind pushes it back up
KAMINARI DENKI
You guys are such kids, after you guys went the first time, you came back so often and ultimately decided that it would be better to buy annual passes
Your guy’s Disney trips were always very spontaneous, to say the least
Kaminari would be like, “Hey babe, what if we go to Disneyland tomorrow?”
“Come again? You want to go to Disneyland tomorrow?”
“Yeah, why not? We haven’t been in awhile” He says, nonchalantly
Giving in to his pouting, that’s how the two of you usually end up at the parks
You go so often you basically have a routine down
You two take turns doing everything; driving, paying for parking, paying for food, etc
During the drive there, you guys are singing non-stop. For some reason, he knows almost all the lyrics to every single song, making you wonder how he can memorize all those words and somehow still have no clue how to remember a simple math formula
You guys also try to Disney Bound (basically, it’s a lowkey cosplay) most of the time, but if not, you guys will always wear matching outfits
Unlike most people, he actually really enjoys wearing the Mickey ears, he thinks he looks extra cute in them. You agree
His ride pose often changes, from ‘hitting the woah’ to literally bringing a prop on the ride, he just does whatever he thinks is funny
But you often collaborate with each other while waiting in line to decide what pose you should do together; if no ideas come up, throwing up a peace sign is the standard move
Favorite ride to go on is Splash Mountain, hands down. He always asks to sit in the front. For some reason, he loves the feeling of getting absolutely fucking drenched
As a tradition, you two always make it your last ride of the night. Since it’s colder, there’s really not much of a wait, meaning you guys have an entire log to yourselves and can pretty much go on it as many times as your hearts desire
TODOROKI SHOUTO
You were aware that Todoroki had probably never been to Disneyland before, considering he spent most of his childhood training
So when you asked him if he’s ever actually gone to the parks, he was like, “Isn’t that the amusement park who has a rat as their mascot? His name is Mikey, right?”, “So, Elsa has an ice quirk too?”
You swore that this boy would be the death of you
You were quick to educate him on all things Disney, telling him stories of when you were younger and how they were some of your fondest memories as a kid
Wanting your boyfriend to share the same experience as you, you eagerly suggested that the two of you must go together one day, and he seemed just as eager with his response
He said, “Okay then, let’s go this Saturday. It’s the weekend so we most likely won’t be busy anyways.”
“Uh Shouto, honey, I’d love to go but I’m pretty broke right now, tickets are expensive so it’ll probably take me a few weeks to save up for —“ you complained
He cut you off right there and says that he’ll pay for everything, whipping out Endeavor’s credit card
Why did he have that on him??
Before you could protest and scold him for using someone else’s card, it was too late because he already bought them
Once in the parks, he seems to be quite fascinated by everything, but his focus tends to stay on you, watching how excited you get over every little thing
You guys get matching ears, but he’s not too keen on wearing them. At most, he’ll wear it for pictures, but that’s about it. But he also can’t help but admire how cute you look in them
Buys you literally anything you want. Overpriced merchandise? Done. Overpriced food? You bet. Overpriced everything? Abso-fucking-lutely. Doesn’t care about the price, as long as you’re happy
Even if he doesn’t explicitly show it, he’s actually having a lot of fun!
Being in such a magical place with his favorite person in the world makes him want to go back, reliving those childhood moments he didn’t really have
Inevitably, he ends up upgrading your tickets to an annual pass
“You bought us annual passes?! Why did you do that, and when?!”
“I did it on the app, while you were in that long line for the bathroom.” He said, feigning innocence
You two end up going at least twice a month, if not more. Pretty much going there to just hang out and walk around
His poses for the rides aren’t really poses per se, it’s really just his poker face. Occasionally, you’ll pinch his cheeks to give a little flare to your photos
Favorite ride is Soarin’ Around The World. He likes the visual appeal. Plus, the orange scent smells really good
MIDORIYA IZUKU
Both of you guys were equally excited to go!
You two had planned to go for some time now, saving up enough money to buy tickets and acknowledging the fact that you guys would spend a lot on food and other things
Izuku is such a nerd that he basically makes an entire schedule of your guy’s stay, morning until night
He grabs a copy of the park map and actually brings a pen to circle which rides you guys want to go on throughout the day
He will definitely download the app in order to keep track of wait times
Plans for which rides you guys should go on first, taking into account the the events that people would be watching instead of waiting in lines, making the most of your time
“Okay, if the wait time for Radiator Springs Racers is 90 minutes, by the time we’re done, we should make it just in time to use our fastpass for Grizzly River Run…”
It kind of amazes you how articulate he was about this whole thing
“Wow, babe. I can’t believe you planned for all of that, I thought we were just going with the flow.” You said, teasing him for being such a nerd. How cute
His hero costume basically had bunny ears on them, so he didn’t complain about wearing the Mickey ears
You two take lots of pictures, you guys even wait in that long line to take that cliché couple photo in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle
Go-to pose varies depending on the ride, usually the camera catches him by surprise, so in almost all of the pictures, he looks like he’s about to cry
Doesn’t really have a favorite ride but his absolute favorite thing to do is to watch the fireworks towards the end of the night
He enjoys just sitting there and holding you close in his arms while you two watch the show and sing along to the music

I started rambling about my experience with kh and then it turned into khux and then it just turned into me rambling about Ryou and my art journey????? enjoy I guess,
it’s very long but there’s art in there :)
It’s funny to think about my kh journey as a whole tbh, I grew up watching my mom play video games, which included kh1 and 2. I wasn’t allowed to play the playstation2 we owned BUT I did have a gameboy so the first game I played was CoM (after my mom finished it ofc,) so I guess you could say I’ve always been passionate about kh “””side games””” lmao but I did fall off of kh very quickly bc again, I wasn’t allowed to play our PS2 and also I Am A Terrible Gamer I’ve Never Finished CoM I’m sorry you all had to find out like this, but then 358/2 came out when I was in middle school and!!! I didn’t care and I didn’t play idk why lol
Anyway, fast forward to high school I’m like 15 and my older sister, who HAS been keeping up with kh, has a wallpaper on her phone of roxas and ventus. And bc I haven’t kept up I say “nice roxas wallpaper” and she says “thanks but it’s roxas and ventus” and I proceeded to get so mad that I was determined to prove to her that her wallpaper was just roxas twice and then I fell down the BBS rabbit hole and suddenly I was reading about vanitas and then I’m reading the fan translations of the BBS novel and I’m crying??? I am sobbing???? and that’s how I actually got into kh for real lol we are vanitas stans before we are people,
It’s so funny how I thought I was some kh super fan, knowing all this stuff that I spent so long reading and rewatching cutscene movies, but I never once, SOMEHOW NEVER ever came across khx. It’s so absurd and bizarre I seriously have no idea how I never once encountered khx prior to khux. I suppose that has to do with the fact I wasn’t involved in the fandom? In early high school I had stepped away from fandoms as a whole and I didn’t have any interest in really posting content or interacting with fans anymore bc of how burnt out I was from a previous fandom,
but khux released! and I was so hype and excited for it! on launch day I was a senior in high school, I had ran around to every “nerd” and weeb I could find in school to ask them to join my party and fun fact about me is I have crippling social anxiety I literally refuse to start conversations irl so holy shit I was OUT HERE doing the MOST
My player just originally had my name (Matt) but everyone in my party had fun names so Ryou was born! High school was one big yugioh phase for me and ryou bakura is one of my favorite characters ever so it was just the logical name choice lol I quickly started creating Ryou, the character, as well. I was also leaving my homestuck phase and that + vanitas obsession made This character design (art circa 2016)
If y’all are familiar with my kh oc’s you might notice that keyblade now belongs to my kid Monty LOL
Anyway that got scrapped quickly for the chip and dale outfit (which is where Ryou’s trademark goggles are from <3) Goggles have been a staple of my character designs for a LONG TIME so like, it had to be done, (that’s a separate ramble about a separate oc tho)
OG Ryou was an interesting guy; he was a young party leader with this overwhelming responsibility on his shoulders bc of his status as a party leader. In his original story, he also struggled heavily with darkness, much like Terra but for Ryou it was more that the darkness was controlling him and not like a source of power like it was for Terra
A big part of early Ryou I kept, however, was the crushing awareness of loss. One of my party members (the strongest one at the time,) had left without saying a word and I was very confused and hurt. This was around the time the ephemera plot was happening so I decided to incorporate it into Ryou’s story; having him experience losing a friend to darkness since it’s so normal for wielders in Daybreak Town to just disappear, and this would unintentionally become a theme for both me and Ryou as khux friends would just randomly disappear.
I was desperate for khux at this point and I decided to watch the fan translations for khx and GOD, god, was I obsessed. I couldn’t stop thinking about the foretellers. And I’m not going off about that here bc I already did that, but I actually started entering fandom again! I did it slowly, I started on tumblr before this blog was made altho it was me sending anons to the few khux related blogs I could have lol a friend convinced me to get twitter where I got involved with the ffxv fandom, which led me to the kh fandom and eventually the khux fandom there which is what REALLY got me going on khux.
I joined discord servers, most of the servers I’m in are khux related, and from there I joined the khux oc rp (shout out to anyone there who might be reading this lol here’s some art from the beginning of the rp,)
It’s SO FUNNY how the RP influenced me so heavily. I hadn’t RP’d in YEARS, I used to have a strict no oc rp policy, but here I was? And the funny part is, I had barely developed Ryou. I had scrapped his original story and all I had was POST WAR Ryou so I literally had to reverse write him; I had only ever written him as a depressed, guilt ridden adult, but it was a fucking blast and I have such fond memories of this rp when it was active,
But anyway, this encouraged me to get more serious about art! I started drawing, writing, cosplaying, and roleplaying when I hadn’t done any of that stuff in a very long time. The first time I ever drew a background was for a deviant art khux competition actually LOL
also! I always think extremely fondly of the drawing I did of Aced in the keyblade war. It was also one of the first backgrounds I ever drew and it felt like my real starting point in the khux fandom. It got a ton of notes on here and someone wrote a tiny fic in a reblog which just made me SO HAPPY like it really felt like people were noticing me :) I was going to draw a matching Ira but!! I just never did!! One day tho, it’s on my art bucket list to redraw this along with Ira,
Aside from my personal growth, khux was great for my social life ngl, I made SO MANY friends online and got to meet a ton of people irl over the years! It’s crazy to think about all the people I now know and talk to? It honestly makes me really emotional. I’ll never forget taking the train into NYC and meeting up with discord friends. Going to conventions and talking with people about the latest khux update? Absolutely insane and those were some GOOD TIMES, if I thanked every khux friend or even just person who made an impact on me then we’d be here for a LONG TIME,
Fun fact, for my Lauriam cosplay all I needed to buy was the wig I just owned his outfit LOL also? Probably retiring that cosplay ngl people treated me like absolute garbage when I wore him and it led to a lot of confidence issues for awhile ngl. That’s probably one of the only memorable negative experiences I have with khux; it was great when khux people recognized me but for kh fans that weren’t in khux? They were FUCKING MEAN??? fuck kh fandom at large, I only care about khux fandom,
This leads me to another huge part of my experience in khux fandom: THEORIES!! I used to write SO MANY and oh my god my brain was so full all the time. It was a huge appeal for me in the fandom; I had been previously writing theory posts in the RWBY fandom and it just migrated over to khux for me lol I had done a ton of theorizing around Lauriam tbh, it was really the only reason I liked his character at all bc initially I did not care about the dandelions, anyone who wasn’t Skuld I was like “please leave Now thanks”
A funny part of khux fandom I never intended to be apart of is the MEMES, I really only started doing memes as stress relief bc college had me so busy all I had time/energy for was these quick little shit post drawings.
The first meme I made, file name “invi despair” LOL we need to get her a girlfriend smh anyway, I think in my senior year of college I did a bunch of rapid fire memes all in one month bc the stress of finals was getting so bad afdgfhdgf as far as I know my impact on this fandom will be my memes bc all I do now is enter a kh/khux server and introduce myself and I go “yeah I draw art. here’s a meme” and everyone goes OH YOU, honestly I am nothing if not a clown
I’ve talked so much idk where I’m going with this. Khux is just a good game even if the gameplay actually kind of really sucks yknow lol but it was the first game I played where I like, REALLY got into the meta and the mechanics. I used to read so much on the mechanics and watch youtube videos on which medals were worth pulling for. I was never a whale or a top player exactly, but I could rank well if I tried lol I’ve made it to the top 100 for solo rankings, my party has made it to top 10, and in pvp I’ve made top 300. I’m not the highest level in my party but FUCK do I know how to manipulate this game LOL
And with all that hard work, the strategies, the theorizing, the content I’ve made-- it’s been my life for 5 years. I’ve logged into khux almost every single day. At the end, I have logged 1820 days in khux out of 1910 days. Kinda crazy. Crazier I’ve never spent money on khux either lol the only “money” gone into it was one time my mom gave me a google play store gift card and I used it on my birthday for a VIP xemnas medal which eventually made it to regular pulls anyway but it was nice and a little treat :)
I’m not a gacha fan, I don’t care for it, so I don’t think I’ll be touching another gacha again. But for kh? This was pretty fucking awesome, even if it sucked a lot sometimes LOL It was worth it for the people I’ve met most of all I think. I would honestly be a completely different person without khux and that’s REALLY insane to think about.
#the khux hyperfixation is REAL#but yall knew this about me#there's so much more I could say but it's 2am and this is long enough already#im rambling

Knock! Knock!
“What are you doing here?” Jungkook asked straightforwardly upon seeing me on the other side of the doors. As per usual, I smiled brightly, waiting for him to move aside, so I could feel myself home.
“I’m inviting myself in,” I answered, walking past him. “Tonight is a big day, and we gotta get ourselves ready,” I added and put two heavy shopping bags on the floor before plopping on the couch, catching my breath. “I planned the entire day, and we’re already far behind schedule. If it wasn’t for the traffic, I would be here about thirty minutes earlier.”
“It’s just a Halloween party,” Jungkook stated, and I rolled my eyes. “It’s no big deal; Jiwoo organizes one every year.”
“The party is just one of the things we’re gonna do,” I started, excited to tell him about everything I had meticulously planned. I was going to make sure he would never forget this night. “I’ve prepared a few surprises before the party.”
“Do I wanna know?” Jungkook asked, sitting in an armchair across from me.
“One thing at a time, okay?” I proposed, and Jungkook unwillingly complied; he had never been the one to fancy surprises, but he could make an exception for his best friend. “First thing on the list – re-watching the season 6 of Buzzfeed Unsolved: Supernatural while eating unhealthy snacks and having gin and tonic drinks,” I revealed, and Jungkook scrutinized me, making an ugly face.
“Are we talking postmortem, too?”
“I can’t believe you had to ask me that,” I answered, a little bit disappointed that he thought I’d skip this content. Never; it was too good to be ever skipped on.
“Sweet,” Jungkook exclaimed, jumping out of the armchair in excitement. “Why don’t you turn on the playlist, and I’ll go get us glasses and a bowl for the chips?”
Hurriedly, I logged into Jungkook’s computer and turned on YouTube.
“Which episode was your favorite?” Jungkook asked me as he sat on the couch beside me, setting the tableware on the coffee table next to the laptop.
“All of them were good. They’ve gathered a lot of evidence this season, but for me, the house call one was the best."
“It was dope, but my favorite is definitely the season finale,” Jungkook stated, and I couldn't disagree. All of the episodes were great, and it was impossible to choose the best one – objectively, at least. All of them were hilarious and spooky in their own way, and it was a delight to re-watch them again. “The marathon shall begin,” he added, pressing the play button.
“Finally.”
It was a very peaceful afternoon, and frankly, it was exactly what I needed after a couple of hectic days at the university. The professors were more demanding than usual, and a relaxing hangout was the perfect remedy to all the stress I had been put under.
Per each episode, Jungkook and I would have a drink and empty a bag of potato chips, occasionally bickering about how we would act in these haunted places. While we both considered ourselves shainiacs, it was quite obvious we would chicken out in the moment of strange, not necessarily supernatural, occurrence.
For the outsiders, Jungkook might have seemed to be a tough cookie, but in reality, he was just a big softie. I, on the other side, enjoyed horrors a bit too much; therefore, in the face of danger, I would laugh.
Probably.
One cannot be sure without actually witnessing a supernatural occurrence. Best case scenario – a full- body apparition.
“You would totally run outside screaming,” Jungkook snickered when the ghoul boys’ spirit box picked up a bizarre voice. “You would lose your fucking mind.”
“I would let out a confused chuckle at best,” I fought back, but Jungkook wasn’t having any of this, throwing a potato chip at me, blowing a raspberry. “See, this is why Jiwoo doesn’t like you. You’re too childish.”
“What are you talking about? Jiwoo adores me,” Jungkook protested, and I couldn’t help myself but burst his little bubble of confidence and self-assurance. “I'm like... her best friend.”
“She only tolerates you because she has the biggest crush on Jimin,” I explained, and Jungkook gasped in disbelief. “What? You didn’t know?” I asked, confused because it was too obvious not to notice her infatuation. Only Jimin was too blind to see it, despite Jiwoo’s blatant flirting.
“Of course, I know. I’m not that stupid,” Jungkook answered, but I still thought he and Jimin shared one brain cell. “Too bad for her; Jimin's dumb.”
“I'm betting she's gonna make a move tonight,” I started, knowing the juicy gossip which would pique Jungkook's interest. “Jimin told me he's cosplaying as Fred from Scooby-Doo, and she's coincidentally dressing as Daphne. She's gonna be as subtle as a dump truck driving through a nitroglycerin plant.”
“Weird way to put it, but I agree,” Jungkook answered, giggling adorably under his breath. “And where's your costume?” Jungkook asked, confused, as he finally noticed the lack of my spooky outfit. Our whole crew enjoyed Halloween too much to attend a party in basic all black clothes. “Jiwoo's not gonna let you in without one. You know it.”
“Relax; I'm going as the Nun from the Conjuring Universe. My costume's at Jiwoo's. I'm not parading in that hellish make-up, giving people heart attacks,” I elaborated, and Jungkook nodded, understanding my choice. Last year, I had been dressed as a very vivid horror character, and a few elders had got pretty spooked. I'm not going down that road again. “I've only got white face powder, three black eyeliners, and a set of black contact lenses on me. And check this out; all of it fitted into my new fanny pack. It's awesome, isn't it?” I showed it to Jungkook, and he grabbed it to investigate my new purchase.
“I've been trying to convince you to buy one for almost a year; what've changed your mind?” Jungkook asked suspiciously, remembering numerous rejections of his (in his opinion) well-argued propositions. In all honesty, I considered fanny packs a terrible accessory, but tonight it suited the occasion. It was more comfortable than a purse or a backpack, and surprisingly, it could fit more items than I had previously assumed. “You've also got a new phone case? It's awesome! Why didn't you get one for me, too?” He added in a whiny tone after inspecting my latest let's summon demons phone case.
“I'd say my fanny pack is going to be a Mystery Mousketool, but then I realized you know what the item is, and you don't know what it's going to be used for,” I started rumbling, and Jungkook looked at me in visible confusion. Perhaps, he had one drink too many to comprehend my twisted presentation. “All I'm saying now, it may come in handy if the second phase of my amazing plan goes a little bit off track,” I continued vaguely. Best friends or not, I couldn't straightforwardly confess that it would be easier for me to run for my life if the police would start chasing us for trespassing a haunted property.
“Whatever's going on your mind, I don't like it,” Jungkook muttered as my previous account must've triggered his spider-sense. “What are you plotting?”
“It's nothing, really,” I tried to dismiss the topic, but Jungkook wasn't having any of that; he wanted to know everything about my secret plan, and he wouldn't stop glaring at me until I'd tell him all the details. With this man, keeping a secret wasn't a possibility.
“Tell me, or else I'm not going anywhere,” Jungkook threatened, and Halloween or not, I knew he wasn't joking. For him, gaming all night was just as entertaining as attending a party; therefore, he didn't have any trouble choosing either one of them. At this point, the only thing I could do was to advertise my plan, making it irresistible. “I was planning on streaming this one game this week, and I might as well start doing it today,” Jungkook carried on with his nerdy shenanigans, letting me know it was my cue to change the subject, snowing him under a handful of promises of an adventurous unforgettable night.
“I've done a research about a haunted house which is like one village away from Jiwoo's parents' house, and it would be awesome if we went there for a quick ghost hunt before the party. You can even bring all your cameras and shoot a Halloween special for your YouTube channel or whatever. Your subscribers would love it, and besides, what could possibly go wrong?” I blurted out on one breath, hoping my sincerity was enough to convince him. “Pretty please?”
***
The bus to the village was about to leave at 17:06, and we had only ten minutes left to double-check our inventory: two go pro cameras, two old-fashioned flashlights, a legitimate spirit box (which Jungkook had been gifted two months ago on his birthday), an ouija board (which he gave me for my early birthday), and a spare bottle of booze if we sobered up before arriving at the location.
Due to traffic, our bus arrived a few minutes late, but we were in a great mood, so we didn’t mind it that much. If anything, we were even more excited, because it would be already getting dark upon our arrival.
“So tell me something about your research,” Jungkook started, as we found a couple of empty seats in the back row of the bus – finally we were the cool kids.
“OK, so check this out,” I started, sitting comfortably in my window seat, rubbing my hands together in ardor. “No one really knows how many ghosts haunt this place, yet according to previous owners’ accounts there are at least three ghosts roaming all around the house, and I have my theory about their identities,” I said with a mischievous smirk upon my face, waiting for Jungkook to compliment my well-done research.
“What’s your theory?” He inquired, already intrigued by the house’s story.
Even it was only my thesis.
“Finally, let’s go over some theories,” I said, quoting my favorite YouTube channel.
Whispering, I told him everything I had managed to dig out, successfully keeping Jungkook on the edge of his seat for the entire ride.
It was a mystery how many ghosts actually haunt this location, but according to the witnesses’ testimonies, old newspaper articles, and land registers, I was sure about three names. All of the three men were once residents, and all of them died tragically within the sinister four walls.
The unholy trinity of Kims – that’s the name of my theory.
The house was built in 1913 on an old rye field. It was a very amicable side of the village, and no one had expected the house could bring so much evil.
The first tenants moved in 1915, and though neither of them died, they reported they had witnessed strange happenings within the premises, beginning with the dog barking in the middle of the night at the darkness, ending with them hearing screeching sounds from under the walls.
One night, they stirred awake with their skin covered in scratches, and their dog breathing heavily, slowly bleeding to death. Needless to say, they moved out before the dawn, leaving all of their belongings behind.
While the majority of the locals believed it was witches’ revenge since the coven had been denied the premises, some of whom thought the family was mentally-ill and violent.
The house remained empty way until 1973 when Kim Seokjin moved in. Back in the time, he was a singer, slowly gaining popularity. Having signed the contract with an entertainment label, he bought a house as his own getaway when he needed a break from his demanding fans.
He would reside in the house a few times a year, only when he was desperate for a few moments of solitude. In late October 1974, he went for a short hiatus. Late evening, when he was relaxing with a glass of scotch, someone knocked on his doors, asking for someone – almost like in The Strangers.
Seokjin suspected the stranger was just a very sneaky fan and locked the person outside. The sole purpose of buying the property so far away from the city was precisely omitting situations like this.
Unfortunately for him, it was not a fan.
Later that night, a dozen of Satanists broke into Seokjin’s house, tied him up, and carried him straight to the basement where they performed a grim ritual. According to the police report released to the press, he was discovered lying on his back in the middle of a bloody pentagram, his intestines gutted out, his tongue cut out found in a golden goblet, and two paper knives sticking out of his eyeballs.
It is told that his ghost roams around the basement, leaving a bloody trace after him. Moreover, a young journalist, back in 1981, while doing research about satanic rituals, claims she had seen his ghost, resting in a rocking chair down in the basement, sipping a glass of alcohol. She even swore she could smell a mixture of whisky and blood in the air.
Unfortunately, she didn’t gather any evidence, later being called a lunatic by the disbelieving society.
The house waited for its new residents for twenty years – in August 1994, a newly wedded couple moved in right after their honeymoon. Kim Namjoon was a poet, teaching European literature on the university, while his wife, Kim Joori, was a sweet librarian.
At first, they didn’t notice anything strange. No weird noises, no unexpected guests, no cold spots, no nothing. Everything was peaceful until they decided to conduct a major renovation – it was then when the hell unleashed.
In 1996 they decided to start trying for a baby, and though they both fancied the old décor of the house, it was evident it wasn’t a safe space for a child. While they were thrilled to upgrade the property, providing their newborn with safety, the entities which lived inside were not.
Joori was the one who started experiencing supernatural happenings; she only worked three times a week, and the majority of her time, she spent alone at home. During these late hours, she thought her mind was playing tricks on her. At first, she justified it with stress and a shitload of work regarding the renovation, but then, the occurrences she had witnessed couldn’t be explained with logic.
Joori wanted to sell the property and move out, yet Namjoon would always dismiss her pleas. It wasn’t until November 1996 when Joori, who was already three months pregnant, and Namjoon had a big fight. She gave him an ultimatum, and when Namjoon chose the house over her, she moved out.
A few collective nights after Joori’s departure, Namjoon would sit by the newly rebuilt fireplace and drink into oblivion. It was the first time he noticed peculiar activity in the house, yet he blamed the alcohol for it.
Slowly, day after day, Namjoon would lose his mind. It started off with strange whispers. The voice in his head, or so he thought, begged him to call Joori and bring her back, yet his pride would always stop after pressing the 6th digit of her parents’ landline.
Then it was tugs; from time to time, Namjoon would feel his shirt being tugged. It was challenging to explain with logic, but he opted for blaming the trauma for making him delusional. Namjoon would rather believe his brain was slowly frying itself than accept the supernatural entities.
At some point, he also started hearing distant giggles within the house and seeing shadows passing between walls, but the last straw that broke the camel’s neck was definitely his book of poems flying across the room, landing in the middle of the carpet, and then shredding into pieces right in front of his eyes. While a lot of events could be blamed on the strong drafts of wind or poor timely construction of the house, some things he witnessed were unexplainable.
Shortly after the incident, the entity residing in the house became violent – it wanted Namjoon away, and since he wasn’t going to leave like his wife, there was another way of getting rid of him.
Namjoon wanted to leave the house, reach out to Joori and start anew with her and their baby.
However, he never did.
On a Christmas morning, Joori paid him a visit and the things she witnessed traumatized her for life.
Namjoon’s suitcase was neatly packed, waiting by the doors to be picked up. The house was spotless, except for Namjoon’s study.
Walls were painted red with blood, Namjoon’s body dismembered – pieces of his body parts scattered all over the floor. Only his head was in scarless, resting on top of his desk, right next to his ripped poetry book.
No signs of forced entry, no motive, no evidence.
The police obviously closed the case, but Joori never felt at peace, still believing it was the entity that killed her husband.
And now, finally, the third Kim.
Kim Taehyung.
Not that long time ago, in 2007, the land was purchased by happy-go-lucky Kim Taehyung. At that time, Taehyung was only 19. He bought the house with his inheritance. Ever since little, he was very family-orientated, and when he had a chance to purchase a property, he didn’t hesitate.
Just like former residents, Taehyung didn’t sense anything odd; the omnipresent feeling of darkness came with time. However, even then, Taehyung would dismiss all the strange occurrences happening inside the house.
He had never been one to get scared easily, so a round of floor creaking or cold spots didn’t really impress him.
On the 17th of April, his girlfriend, Chanmi, slept over for the first time, and it was chilling.
According to her testimony, after their steamy sex session, she felt as if being watched. Later on that night, when they were sleeping, cuddling under the sheets, she heard distinctive steps downstairs.
Frightened, suspecting it was a burglar, she shook Taehyung awake, yet the moment he opened his eyes, the noise stopped. Complete undisturbed silence. To Taehyung, Chanmi seemed paranoid (and not accustomed to new surroundings), but he loved her dearly and checked the house, calming her.
Although Taehyung didn’t find anything, Chanmi already knew she didn’t feel welcomed – ever since that night, she made sure they would hang out at her place. Whatever it was that she sensed – it was pure evil.
On the 23rd of June, they had a big fight, and when Chanmi came over the next day to makeup, Taehyung was already gone.
His body was discovered in the bathroom on the second floor – he was lying in the bathtub, sharp pieces of mirror protruding from his wounded body.
Chanmi screamed and fell onto her knees.
But it wasn’t the worst thing about that day – the moment she started sobbing, Taehyung’s head tilted to the side, looked at her with his dead eyes, and in a throaty voice, he growled her name.
In a matter of seconds, Chanmi got back on her feet and bolted out of the house, swearing to herself that she’d never ever return there.
Though the police suspected a murder, deep down, Chanmi knew it was the evil’s doing. She never bothered mentioning that in her official statement, knowing the cops wouldn’t believe her.
Ever since Taehyung’s tragic death, the residence belongs to the city. Despite multiple proposals, it has never been sold.
And now, it’s our cue to investigate these haunted premises.
“You’re shitting me right now, aren’t you?” Jungkook asked me, probably both crept out and impressed. My research was thorough and off-putting at once, and I was sure it partially discouraged him from participating in the exploration.
“What do you mean?”
“You’ve read that shit about the house, and you still wanna go there? What’s wrong with you? Only a psychopath can enjoy doing shit like that,” Jungkook argued, and I couldn’t find an answer right away.
I loved horror films and scary stories, mostly because I loved discrediting them and finding flaws in the storylines, and right now, I was about to do the same, but my subject was a real thing.
I didn’t have huge expectations – it was more than probable that we wouldn’t find anything, yet at the same time, it would be pretty dope to witness something strange. Jungkook shouldn’t be that worried – in the worst (best) scenario, we would get spooked by another team of amateur ghost hunters.
“Come on, Kook, grow a pair,” I started, trying to take our conversation on a less pressing level. It was just a silly ghost hunting gig, yet Jungkook sounded serious, almost as if we were going through the pros and cons of keeping a baby. “Ghost ain’t real; the scariest thing inside that house it probably bats,” I reasoned, and Jungkook agreed with a sigh.
“I guess you’re right,” Jungkook said, finally manning up for the mission. “Let’s get this shit over with,” he added when the vehicle stopped at our bus stop.
***
“So… what do you think?” I inquired when the murder house was within our eyesight; the building was spacious, and it really stood out amongst the other residences – no one could miss it. From quite a distance, you could see there was something evil about it, even the fence around the property was installed upside down, supposedly to lock the supernatural entities inside.
“It doesn’t look very welcoming if you ask me,” Jungkook started, scratching the back of his head, probably trying to come up with a good excuse to call it a day and just head over to Jiwoo’s party. “Just by the look of it, I can tell there’s something wrong about it,” he added, and I hummed in agreement.
“Are your spider-senses tingling again?” I asked, and Jungkook elbowed me lightly, not enjoying my teasing. “But for real now. Should we take a few selfies before going in?” I proposed, and Jungkook eagerly agreed, as if prolonging the inevitable reconnaissance.
Carefully, Jungkook wrapped his arm around my frame and snapped a few pictures with his phone, making sure the haunted house was standing proudly in the background. Then, he took another series of photos with my camera.
“If we’re seriously going in there, I think I need an intro for my Halloween special video, don’t you think?” Jungkook announced, pulling out his go-pro camera. After giving me a quick instruction, we started rolling.
At first, he reported what we were doing, but then, he started talking about the new segment of his channel, and my brain just froze. Although I respected his passion for gaming, I completely lost focus whenever he started blabbering about it. But honestly, I thought it was healthy for our friendship. We had a lot of things in common, yet it was a blessing to be different at some point. Whenever one of us felt a bit overwhelmed, we could engage in independent activities. For Jungkook, it was gaming – I’d never try crashing his nerdy party.
“I think we got it,” I announced when Jungkook’s mouth stopped barfing gaming jargon. “Let’s go inside.”
“Fine, but keep it in mind that if I die, I’m going to haunt your ass,” Jungkook stated, and I laughed. Right… as if this cinnamon roll could ever haunt anything.
“Puh-lease,” I retorted, trying to refrain myself from giggling. “If anything bad happened to you, you would be Kookie – the friendly ghost,” I finished, and Jungkook whined quietly, not fancying my opinion.
“Shut up,” Jungkook barked, pulling out the second fancy camera. If he were to step into that hellhole, he would gear himself up from head to toe, getting ready to catch the ghost on tape. “Let’s go in before I change my mind,” he added, as he effortlessly jumped over the fence.
“Will you help me? Not everyone has legs for days,” I mumbled as I extended my arms, so Jungkook could support me when I made my way through the first obstacle. “Thanks,” I quickly said when Jungkook grabbed me, and carefully put me on the ground.
“If it makes you feel any better, I think you’ve got a sexy pair of legs,” Jungkook complimented me, and though in other circumstances I’d blush, this time I ignored it, focusing on the vibration I felt in the butt pocket of my jeans.
The second I put my foot on the unholy soil, weird shit started happening.
Interesting.
My first thought was that I got a text message on my phone, but then it struck me that I always had my phone on silent mode. Quickly, I checked my cell phone, and it turned out that Siri turned itself on.
“What can I help you with?”
The device turned itself on again, but this time in my hand, when I didn’t push any buttons.
“It’s not a good sign,” Jungkook commented, and I started to second guess the brilliance behind my ingenious plan. “It’s not too late to turn around and leave. I won’t be disappointed if you chicken out,” he carried on, but I just grinned at him. There was no way I’d wimp out.
“Nice try; we’re going in,” I prompted, confidently walking toward the main entrance, Jungkook following behind me, probably shooting the surroundings.
As soon as we stepped onto the porch, the wood would start to creak underneath the pressure. Just like everything about the house, it gave off that creepy vibe.
“Showtime,” I whispered under my breath as I extended my hand and grabbed the knob. Just as expected, it was locked.
“Well… it looks like another sign to me. Let’s go back,” Jungkook spoke, trying once again to convince me to back out.
“Get a grip; we’re going in,” I ordered, and Jungkook sighed, regretting that he couldn’t say no to me. “I’m picking the lock; Betty in Riverdale does it all the time, it can’t be that difficult,” I muttered, reaching into my new fanny pack for a bobby pin.
“Are you for real? Since when anything they do in Riverdale makes any sense to you?” Jungkook wondered, but I just rolled my eyes, ignoring his mean comments. “You’re not opening that lock,” he added, making my blood boil. In times of crisis, Jungkook wasn’t very supportive.
“Just shut up, I almost got it,” I barked, sticking my tongue out, adjusting myself to my ultimate focus form, ignoring Jungkook and his shenanigans. Not only he showed me no support, but also he pulled out the small bottle of booze and took a gulp, without proposing me some.
“Just deal with it. We won’t get inside,” Jungkook teased again, pissing me off, and then leaning in, literally breathing on my neck.
“I really hate you right now,” I yelled at him as I straightened up, dropping my bobby pin in the process. “It was my only one,” I whined, kicking in doors in frustration, and to my surprise, it swung wide open.
“Ladies first?” Jungkook murmured, smiling sheepishly, moving aside.
“How gentlemanly of you,” I tsked, turning on the flashlight before entering the building. “I’m pretty sure you’re going to edit your video, deceiving people into thinking you’re a real macho man,” I complained, inspecting the foyer.
Nothing out of the ordinary. For now.
“I’ve got chills,” I stated matter-of-factly when the silence inside the house started to bother me. Though I didn’t believe in ghosts, for some stupid reasons, my heart rate quickened. I felt uneasy, and when I heard my voice echo across the room, I felt less crept out. “Which room should we check out first?”
“When I listened to you on the bus, all of them sounded awful,” Jungkook honestly answered while shedding some light around the living room. “If got rid of all the dust, it’d look pretty comfy,” he added, and I snorted, not expecting him to give me such a nonchalant comment.
Unfortunately, it seemed I was the jittery one.
Well… fuck.
“How about we check out Ouija board in Namjoon’s study,” I proposed, and Jungkook hummed in agreement.
“Maybe there’s still some blood left. You said it was pretty messy,” Jungkook added in excitement, making me wonder how the hell he did a 180 so fast. Not even two minutes ago, he acted like an adorable sacredly cat, but right now, he seemed confident enough to roundhouse kick all the demons back to hell.
“I doubt so, but it’s worth checking,” I answered, and we both headed to the east wing of the house, navigating toward Namjoon’s office. “It may sound ridiculous, but I’m getting horny,” I confessed, and Jungkook stopped in his tracks, gawking at me, not expecting such revelation.
“I knew you wouldn’t resist my manly charms,” Jungkook murmured cockily, wiggling his eyebrow suggestively. “I knew you would fall for me eventually.”
“Right… I’d rather believe a sex demon just possessed me,” I retorted, and for some reason, Jungkook didn’t find it funny. Come on, it was hilarious! “OK, I guess you’re kinda hot right now,” I gave in, unwillingly stroking his ego.
Not my fault, he was just irresistible.
“I knew it,” Jungkook cheered right before when we finally found the right room. This was it – the first space to be “properly” investigated.
Putting the flashlights on the desk, we set the Ouija board on the floor, sitting across from each other.
“Do you know how to use it?” Jungkook inquired, and I smiled sheepishly, telling him I knew bits and pieces, though I had absolutely no idea if my knowledge was legit since it all was based on multiple horror films I had seen. “I’ll check it online,” he proposed and pulled out his phone, quickly typing his inquiry into Google’s search tab. “Whoa, the signal here is no joke; I have a better connection than I have at my apartment. How expensive is this house again?”
“You’re really dumb, you know…”
“You love me regardless, so I don’t really care,” Jungkook absentmindedly replied while browsing through the answers. “OK, it’s easy.”
Briefly, Jungkook explained the ceremony. Apparently, the horror movies didn’t get everything wrong.
Unfortunately, the spirits inside Namjoon’s study weren’t chatty – during our session, they only edged the planchette toward the numbers 9 and 4 (the date of Namjoon’s settlement), yet I didn’t put much thought to it. Jungkook was probably moving it to scare me, and I wasn’t going to give him that satisfaction.
“You know what? It’s not as exciting as I thought it would,” I started when we were collecting our stuff, getting ready to explore another room. For the majority of the time, nothing was happening. We were sitting just sitting in darkness, waiting for something to give us a real spook.
Later, we headed towards the second floor. The stairs were creaking as we made our way up, but we didn’t pay much attention to it, being too focused on locating the bathroom to actually think about basic safety.
The bathroom looked terrifying; the tiles inside were dirty, the original color already fading. The facilities were covered in rust and probably making a lot of unnecessary noises.
“Give me your flashlight,” Jungkook ordered as he put both torches on the edge of the bathtub, one of which switched on. “If there’s something that wants to communicate with us, turn the right one on, and turn off the left one,” Jungkook spoke loudly, waiting for the lights to change, and after some time one did.
“It was definitely a ghost,” I exclaimed in fake dread, bursting out laughing a second later. “It’s solid evidence; it’s confirmed – ghosts are real,” I added, and Jungkook joined me, chuckling adorably. “You can’t change my mind.”
“If it’s you, Taehyung, tell us what happened to you,” Jungkook carried on, and I grew silent, waiting for the ghost to reach out to us. “We don’t want to hurt you; we just want to know the truth. Who killed you?”
Silence.
“Come on, Taehyung. We don’t have all night; we’ve got places to be,” I urged the ghost in a taunting manner, hoping for something to finally happen. With each passing second, our expedition seemed more and more disappointing, and though I didn’t believe in ghosts, I’d really liked to be proven wrong.
“You’re weak sauce, Taehyung!” Jungkook mocked, reaching for the flashlights, wanting to explore another active part of the house – the basement. “You had your chance, Taehyung, and you blew it.”
We quickly left the bathroom and headed to the basement, yet just before we entered the room, I hesitated.
“Maybe we should investigate the basement individually,” I proposed, and Jungkook bit the inner side of his cheek, pondering over my suggestion.
“Fine, let’s do this,” Jungkook agreed with a sigh. “Do you want me to go first?”
“Whatever.” I shrugged, and Jungkook pulled out the spirit box, a little bit excited to use it for the first time. “Go get ’em, tiger.” I patted Jungkook on the back, and closed the doors behind him. “You’ve got ten minutes.”
The stairs creaked when Jungkook was walking down. For a while, it was oddly silent, but then I heard the loud white noise, and I knew Jungkook finally turned the device on.
While he was down there, I roamed around the ground floor, taking a few extra selfies. Unfortunately, regardless of the flashlight, it was still dark as fuck, and I was sure none of the taken photos were Instagram-worthy.
Ten minutes passed, yet Jungkook still didn’t get out.
“You can come out now,” I shouted, but I got no reply from Jungkook.
This fucker was messing with me. I knew him too well not to understand what he was trying to do. However, I wouldn’t give him that satisfaction. He wanted to scare me shitless, but he would never succeed.
Confidently, I swung the doors open and made my way downstairs.
“Have you found anything?” I asked when I noticed Jungkook standing in the corner of the room, facing the walls.
“Nope, it was boring as fuck.”
“OK, it’s my turn. Give me the spirit box,” I spoke eagerly, waiting for Jungkook to give me the gear. He survived the individual session with ghosts, so there was nothing to be afraid of. If ghouls didn’t eat Jungkook’s cute butt, I doubted they would be after mine.
“Good luck,” Jungkook murmured and leaned in, pressing a delicate kiss against my forehead before running upstairs.
OK. What the fuck?
With a slam, I was left alone in the basement, and frankly, right now, I didn’t give two shits about ghosts. What the fuck was that? Jungkook and I never showed any affection for one another. The most intimate interaction we had ever had was elbowing each other.
We didn’t kiss.
Never.
Not even an indirect kiss.
All the wires in my brain were frying. A whole army of ghosts might’ve jumped out of nowhere, and I wouldn’t give two shits about them. What the hell was Jungkook’s deal? Why did he do that?
Regardless of how much I desired to find evidence on ghosts, right now, my mind wasn’t in the right place. Thoughts of Jungkook, of how much I tried to not act on my attraction toward him, how I wanted him to make a move – they completely took over my sanity.
A full-body apparition might’ve as well started reciting Great Gatsby, and I wouldn’t notice it probably.
Trying to leave that horrifying train of thoughts, I shook my head. I needed to get a grip. Tonight was about ghosts, not about Jungkook.
Promptly, I turned on the spirit box, starling at how loud it roared to life.
Except for one beam of light coming out of my flashlight, it was entirely dark, and the white noise emitted by the device made the scene even more terrifying. I would undoubtedly faint if I didn’t like this dreadful atmosphere.
“Is anyone here?” I asked and looked around – everything seemed ordinary. Well… as ordinary as an abandoned house’s basement could be.
[UNINTELLIGIBLE]
“What the fuck was that?” I jerked my head to the side, staring at the device in my hand. It sounded like a male voice, yet I couldn’t quite comprehend the words. “Can you repeat that? You have to speak more clearly,” I spoke, refraining from face-palming myself.
What the hell was I thinking, talking to ghosts?
I must’ve really lost my mind.
“Behind.”
Once again, I jerked my head, furrowing my eyebrows. It really sounded like the word behind, so obviously, I turned around, checking if there’s something, in fact, behind me.
There wasn’t.
“I have to hear more than just one word,” I declared, focusing on the noise, ready to pick up another message. For a long while, the white noise was ringing in my ears, but then I heard something which sounded like my name.
[UNINTELLIGIBLE]
Jungkook’s gonna love my footage, I wondered upon hearing these strange noises. Maybe it is not groundbreaking evidence, but it surely will be thrilling to watch. Jungkook’s followers will love the new content.
“You find me.”
“Oh my God, this is awesome,” I cheered enthusiastically, and though I was having the time of my life, it was time to take the fun to the next level. “Who am I talking to? What’s your name?”
“Kim.”
“That was an instant answer,” I commented, feeling goosebumps on my skin.
Much to my dismay, it was the last coherent response I got; I sat there alone in the darkness and received only a few unintelligible reads. So much for ghost hunting… I thought, ready to leave the basement.
Checking the time on my phone, I realized I had two more minutes, and though it was pointless to reach out to ghosts at this point, I decided to record my useless commentary. Maybe Jungkook would use my witty monologue as a part of his YouTube clip, or if not, he’d have a good laugh when analyzing all the footage from this night.
“So… I’ve been sitting in the darkness for a while, and no ghost dared to give me a spook. It’s such a disappointment, really. These ghosts here are real wimps; I lured Jungkook inside this basement, and this may come as a big shocker to everyone, but nothing really happened to him –“
[BANG!]
Quickly, I turned my head around, trying to locate the source of the strange noise; it sounded as if it was coming from under the stairs, yet I quickly dismissed the disturbance – it must’ve been a rat or something.
Clearly, it wasn’t a ghost.
“As I was saying… this house is a complete bummer. When we first arrived, the house looked really nerve-racking, but when we actually started exploring it, it let us down. Honestly, the scariest part of this expedition probably was when Jungkook failed to prank me.”
“Your time is up,” having opened the doors, Jungkook hollered. “I’m going down there,” he added, and I turned around, giving Jungkook a chance to record my grand exit on tape.
“I’m getting outta here, ghosts. You are a bunch of wimps!”
“Did you just seriously mock the ghosts?” Jungkook asked, giggling adorably.
“Why not? It’s not like they’re going to kill me for calling them out.”
“Should we leave now? I’d stay for a little longer and recorded some weird random shit. What do you think?”
“It’s definitely gonna piss these ghosts, so I am in.”
At first, Jungkook insisted I record him dance a few Fortnite choreographies, and though I had no clue what he was doing, I kept the camera rolling. Then, I turned music on my phone, and we jammed to old K-POP hits like Super Junior’s Bonamana, SHINEE’s Lucifer, f(x)’s Electric Shock, and many others.
Then Jungkook made me record his beatbox performance, and it was torture. However, there was a silver lining – it helped me determine whether ghosts were real or not. The answer was no – no one would endure it.
And if it wasn’t for my crush on him, I’d definitely not endure it either.
Later that evening, Jungkook gave a short instruction video on how to defend oneself with basic taekwondo moves, and then we thumb-wrestled.
“You know what would really piss the ghosts off?” Jungkook inquired, and I wondered what else his one brain cell came up with since I highly doubted if it could get any dumber than it already had.
“I don’t know… what else would really piss the ghosts off?” I answered, having no idea what we could do to outdo ourselves. Everything that we had done for the past hour was already offensive as fuck.
“Isn’t it absolutely the worst when you’re in a public place, minding your business when you walk past a couple making out right in front of you?”
“It is absolutely the worst, but how is it any relevant?” I asked, cocking my eyebrow in confusion. Jungkook was right, making out openly in public was rude, and obnoxious, and one of my biggest pet peeves, yet I highly doubted the ghosts had the same hierarchy of irritating situations. They’re dead, and they can haunt people without any consequences – that’s pretty dope itself, and I just couldn’t understand why it would be their top bête noire.
“Well… it’s not completely irrelevant, and besides, ever since you’ve mentioned you’re horny, I really wanted to kiss you,” Jungkook confessed, and my jaw dropped at the revelation. Jungkook wanted to do what!?
“Well… you just played yourself,” I stated, and Jungkook creased his forehead in confusion. “Is that a confession you’ve just recorded? I bet you want to record our kiss, too. That’s kinky, and weirdly enough, it turns me on a little bit,” I finished my thought, and then Jungkook smiled widely at me, figuratively lighting up the rundown basement which we were still in.
“Well… now you just really have to kiss me,” Jungkook retorted, and I smiled mischievously, curious of how he’s going to play his cards now, “unless you want me to show your parents a video of you confessing to your kinks.”
“Well… you should’ve waited a little bit longer, maybe I would’ve named all the other kinks I’m into,” I challenged, biting my bottom lip seductively. “If you really want our first kiss to be in this shabby, totally not haunted basement, then go for it,” I consented, waiting for him to approach me and knock the air out of my lungs with a world-shattering kiss.
“It’s not perfect, it’s not exactly what you deserve, but it will be a hell of a story to tell our grandchildren one day. Don’t you think?”
“I think you’re getting a little bit ahead of yourself,” I retorted, chuckling. Jungkook was acting ridiculous, and it was adorable. With his cute smile and firm butt, he could get away with anything. “Just kiss me, you idiot.”
At first, I expected him to say something cringe-worthy like m’lady or alrighty, but thankfully, I was wrong. With one long stride, Jungkook approached me, resting his large hand on my hips before leaning in to kiss me.
The kiss was sensual and soft, and the way I had always imagined. Gently, Jungkook pressed his plump lips against mine, and we just moved, basking in pleasure. His hand was roaming over my back and butt, whereas mine was going through his silky hair, tousling it.
Gradually, it grew in passion. Jungkook pulled me closer against him, and I opened my mouth, inviting his tongue. Though it was only one kiss, it was quickly making me thirsty for more.
It felt blissful, yet it came to an abrupt stop when we heard a loud bang upstairs.
“Well… you were right, it obviously pissed someone off,” I whispered, chuckling.
“What do you think it was?” Jungkook asked, concerned about the strange noise. “It sounded as if someone just slammed the doors shut,” Jungkook stated, and I quickly agreed with him.
“But we left the doors closed, didn’t we?” I wondered, trying to remember our previous actions. Neither one of us was perfectly sober, yet I was pretty sure we did close the doors. “OMG, this is awesome! It was probably another group of adrenaline-seeking people! We could give them the spook of their life if we jumped out of the basement,” I explained, and I was sure I wasn’t perfectly sober right now either.
“It was probably the wind, but okay, let’s do this,” although knowing it was a stupid idea, Jungkook agreed to conduct my improvised prank.
Carefully, we made our way upstairs, yet when we jumped out of our hideaway, there was nobody there.
“Stupid wind,” I murmured under my breath, really bummed out by this whole situation. “Fuck you, you stupid house. You’ve wasted our time,” I hollered at nothing in particular as I approached the doors and pulled the knob. “Jungkook, it won’t open,” I announced, taking a step to the side, letting Jungkook’s strength to let us out.
Seriously, what kind of an estate agent would try to sell this house without repairing it first? At this point, only people from these HGTV shows would consider buying it, so they could later sell it with real profit.
At first, the doors didn’t want to budge either, but then he handed me his camera and roundhouse-kicked the doors open.
Whoever locked the doors, be it the wind, the ghost, or anyone else, Jungkook’s thick thighs were more powerful.
“Let’s get out of here,” Jungkook said as he grabbed my hand and led me outside, leaving the creepy though definitely not haunted house behind us.
***
Although the navigation system on my phone estimated our route to take us forty-five minutes on foot, Jungkook and I made that distance under half an hour. The house was creepy, but we were already late for Jiwoo’s party, and we didn’t want to face her wrath.
She had called me three times, and Jungkook and I lived in a universe where three missed calls from Jiwoo were more terrifying than fifty from mom.
When we reached Jiwoo’s house, we tried knocking on the doors, but unfortunately for us, everybody was already in a good mood. They couldn’t hear the knocks due to loud music, and I couldn’t be angry – it was our punishment for arriving so late.
Thankfully, when we walked the house around, the patio doors were open, so we got inside.
The house was packed with people, yet I was familiar with only a few of them – the majority of guests were Jiwoo’s college friends, and I haven’t yet acquainted them. In the kitchen, I saw Mario and Luigi, and I instantly knew it was Yoongi and Hoseok. Each year they have adorable couple costumes.
“Look who’s finally showed up,” I heard a loud voice from over the stairs, leading to the second floor. It was Daphne, closely followed by Fred.
“I guess Daphne and Fred just checked the bedroom,” I told Jungkook, and he chuckled, getting the reference. “I hope they didn’t find any ghosts.”
“I bet Scooby and Shaggy are already eaten by the ghost in the basement,” Jungkook carried on, and we both started to laugh.
“Your costumes are in my bedroom, but before you change, I have to feed us some jello shots,” Jiwoo started, making us follow her to the kitchen. “In which bushes were you two fucking, so you came so late?” She questioned, but Jungkook and I didn’t know how to reply. Jiwoo was unpredictable – she would either scold us for going to that house without her, or just shout at us for being reckless and irresponsible, but I guess it was her role in our friend circle.
She was the mom friend.
“We weren’t fucking,” I protested quickly, trying to buy us some time to get a better excuse for our late arrival. “If we were indeed fucking, we would be here before anyone else,” I joked, yet Jungkook didn’t find it particularly funny.
It didn’t worry me, though. Jungkook and I dissed each other daily, he wasn’t going to pout. If anything, he was plotting how to get his revenge.
“Well… true,” Jiwoo replied as she high-fived me. “Don’t worry, Kookie. I’m just messing with you,” she added, and I nodded, knowing she was extra mean to impress Jimin. Retorts weren’t her strongest suit, but so far, it was okay.
Jiwoo distributed the jello shots among the four of us, and to my surprise, they weren’t as strong as I had expected them to be. She had made them, and it came to me as a shock, then the proportions weren’t fifty-fifty.
“Oh my God, I just noticed you both have matching costumes. What a coincidence!” Jungkook hollered, faking his surprise, taking revenge on Jiwoo.
“What can I say? Great minds think alike,” Jiwoo quickly retorted before Jungkook managed to embarrass her in front of her crush.
“Some things are just meant to be,” Jimin added, draping his arm over Jiwoo’s shoulder, making me and Jungkook gag. What the hell had we missed?!
We had totally wasted our time in that haunted house – we could have been here, watching their relationship develop in front of our eyes! Though I had no regrets after reaming around that disappointing trip to that house, now I had one regret. I was genuinely upset that I missed witnessing how the line between their friendship and love faded away.
“OK, you know what? Go upstairs and change. You disgust me without your costumes on,” Jiwoo ordered, shooing us upstairs.
Obediently, we headed to her bedroom, finding our costumes on her bed.
“I’m so tired,” I announced as I plopped down onto her bed, wanting to get some rest. The march from one location to another was more exhausting than I had initially thought, and my legs were killing me.
“Well… it’s all your fault, I told to we should call an Uber,” Jungkook replied, lying on the bed next to me. “No slacking,” Jungkook hollered, playfully slapping my butt. “If we don’t get downstairs in a few minutes, Jiwoo’s gonna bust in here and complain how we ruin her party.”
“True,” I agreed, and with a loud groan, I stood up to get changed. “And that reminds me. You’ve never told me what you’re dressing as this year,” I spoke, wondering what was inside the bag which was sitting next to my costume.
“I didn’t have time to come up with anything, so I asked Jimin to lend me his costume from last year. He was Jack Sparrow or something,” he explained, and I watched him unpacking the bag.
“Or something it is,” I started when I saw what his costume consisted of. It was basically a deep-cut white shirt, a pair of tight leather trousers, and a hat. “Good luck with fitting into it,” I snickered, wondering how uncomfortable it’s going to look like on his powerful thighs.
“Why don’t you shut up,” Jungkook said, not pleased with my commentary.
In silence, we got dressed, and since my costume wasn’t revealing, I could quickly put it on my clothes, which gave me plenty of time to gawk at Jungkook.
“I feel like a piece of meat, right now,” Jungkook commented, as he caught me staring at him, zipping his trousers. “Can you stop staring at me like that? I’m a person with feelings, not a sex toy.”
“Now you know how all girls in clubs feel,” I retorted and continued to stare at him shamelessly. Right now, I only needed a bucket of popcorn and a few bills which I could put under the hem of his pants.
“Aren’t you going to put that creepy make-up?”
“I was going to, but I don’t have energy nor patience to do that,” I answered lazily, watching him button his shirt. “Besides, I checked myself in the mirror, and I’m rocking that Mary-Eunice look right now,” I added, and Jungkook agreed, approving my American Horror Story costume.
“You know what? Even when you wear that ridiculous nun costume, I would still fuck you,” Jungkook blatantly confessed, and I giggled, not knowing how to react to this odd compliment. “I really must be wrapped around your little finger. You even made me go to that abandoned house.”
“You make me blush,” I admitted shyly before approaching him. Then, standing on my toes, I pecked his lips innocently. “We better go downstairs, Jiwoo must be furious at us for taking so long,” I added, exiting the room, leaving Jungkook speechless behind me.
Though at first, we were too tired to party hard, Jimin and Jiwoo engaged us in a few drinking games, and I was thankful I managed to bullshit myself out of playing truth and dare with them.
I realized what Jiwoo would make me do or confess, and I’d rather Jungkook find it out in different, more private, circumstances.
Around three a.m., people slowly started to get tired, one by one heading upstairs to either fuck each other’s brains out or simply find an empty bed to sleep in. At that time, Jungkook and I were chilling in the kitchen, munching on the food which other guests had the courtesy of leaving.
“We should go on a date on Saturday,” Jungkook proposed, and I looked him in the eyes, nodding my head. “What do you want to do on our first date?” He asked, leaning against the countertop next to me.
“Is there any chance you’re wearing this outfit on our first date?” I asked, and Jungkook quickly shook his head. I teased him all night about this outfit, and by now, he must’ve dreamed about taking it off at least a dozen times. Best case scenario: taking it off right in front of already naked me.
“Nope, stare at me while you still can,” Jungkook said, and I didn’t dare to question his decision. Though he looked like a snack, I respected his choice. He wasn’t going to wear it again, and I wasn’t going to force him. Besides, I was kind of curious about how he looked naked. “So… what do you want to do on Saturday? Bowling? A candlelight supper? Cinema?”
“I was gonna say that anything is fine as long as it’s with you, but would you really prepare a candlelight supper for me?” I questioned, quite amazed by his proposition. Jungkook rarely cooked himself, and even if he happened to whip something up in the kitchen, it would be ramen or something just as easy to make.
“Of course, anything,” Jungkook promised, and I tried my very best right not to kiss him. “It probably won’t be any tasty, but at least, I made it with my hands.”
Oh, screw it.
Instantly, I pulled him closer, smashing my lips against his. The moment he realized what I was doing, he reciprocated the kiss.
“I don’t really care,” I spoke, wrapping my legs around his hips. “Oh, shit,” I cursed upon noticing Jiwoo and pushed Jungkook away.
“I think everybody’s asleep already, what are you guys still doing here?” She asked, eyeing the both of us.
“Nothing, we were just eating,” I stated, though Jiwoo didn’t fully believe in my innocent reply. “What have you been up to? Your green scarf is gone, and you have a hickey on your neck. Have you had fun with Jimin?” I inquired, and she looked away in embarrassment.
Jiwoo had never been to shy away, but she didn’t act like herself around Jimin. When with him, she became a better person, and right now, she was blushing. It was the first time when I saw her behaving like that, and I liked it.
With Jimin by her side, Jiwoo was slowly turning in the best version of herself, and the transition was crystal clear. Even Jungkook wouldn’t miss it.
“We’ll talk about it tomorrow; right now, I just want to clean up and go to bed,” Jiwoo said, and I knew it was our cue to live. I didn’t like cleaning, and I knew Jiwoo wouldn’t appreciate my help. She would prefer Jimin’s assistance. “You’re sleeping in the guest room with Yoongi and Hoseok.”
“Thanks,” I replied, and we slowly headed to the guest room, knowing that Jimin would shortly join Jiwoo. They thought they were subtle, but they really weren’t. One look was enough, and Jungkook and I knew everything.
“I hope Yoongi and Hoseok already fucked each other,” Jungkook stated before we entered our room, and I agreed. I wouldn’t like to walk on them fucking. I just wanted to lie down and get some sleep.
***
On Friday, I focused only on myself. I needed to recover fully after a long night of drinking, but also, I wanted to pamper myself a little bit before my date with Jungkook. I was sure he was going to prepare everything to perfection, like the golden boy he has always been, and it only made sense that his girlfriend (me) also ought to be perfect.
I took a long, relaxing bath, I wore a face mask, I ate plenty of fruit, I planned my next week of college, I even turned on the relatively new drama with Ji Changwook, and whipped up a mug of cocoa with marshmallows.
The day was peaceful, and I cherished every second of it before I had to face reality and go to classes on Monday.
In the evening, I even chatted with Jiwoo, listening to a few newest rumors. I didn’t expect her to have any time to spare, but apparently, to her, gossip was more important than her new boyfriend. Good thing she had her priorities set straight.
That crazy Capricorn girl | 17:21 | omg you won’t believe it!
That crazy Capricorn girl | 17:21 | I know why Seulgi and Irene didn’t come
That crazy Capricorn girl | 17:21 | apparently

Jiwoo wasn’t ashamed of double texting, obviously. If she had gossip to deliver, she would spam anyone until she would get a reply, and frankly, it never upset me. Mostly because I was texting the same way.
Me | 17:25 | told you
Me | 17:25| I knew they had hots for each other
Me | 17:26 | you should be glad they didn’t come
Me | 17:26 | they probably fucked all night long

With Jiwoo, when we started texting, we didn’t know how to stop. Topics would come and go, and we would always come up with something new. This night wasn’t any different. When we discussed everyone’s behavior during the party, late changing the subject to the people who couldn’t make it. Then, we would exchange messages about the newest K-POP hits, scandals, and dramas. Sometimes, we would even send memes to one another.
Usually, we would continue our conversation until one of us was tired and went to sleep, but tonight a bizarre text from Jungkook made me finish.
Cutie Goo Baby Kook | 21:41 | come over
Cutie Goo Baby Kook | 21:41 | now
Well… rude.
We didn’t even go on our first date yet, and he treated me like a booty call.
No, it couldn’t be.
Me | 21:42 | what do you mean???
Me | 21:42 | Jeon Jungkook
Cutie Goo Baby Kook | 21:42 | get your juicy ass over here
Cutie Goo Baby Kook | 21:43 | asap
Cutie Goo Baby Kook | 21:43 | you need to see something
What the hell did he want? Couldn’t he wait until tomorrow to meet me? If he wanted to see me, he could just text me like he a regular person. He didn’t have to act like an asshole about it.
Me | 21:45 | fine
Me | 21:45 | I’ll be in thrity
Me | 21:46 | if it’s your dick that I need to see you’re dead

Within thirty minutes, I was at Jungkook’s apartment, breathing heavily. His flat was located on the fourth floor, and the elevator was out of order, and whenever I had to take the stairs, I could feel blood on my tongue.
It wouldn’t hurt me that much to tag along once in a while to the gym with Kook. Well… hopefully.
“What’s the emergency?” I asked instantly when Jungkook swung the doors open. “Jungkook, I swear, if it’s a booty call, I’m gonna be pissed,” I warned him when Jungkook grabbed my wrist and yanked me inside.
“No, it’s nothing like that,” Jungkook reassured me as he led me to his bedroom.
Well… he might’ve said it wasn’t a booty call, yet his actions were giving me a totally different message. He was literally dragging me to his bedroom.
“What is going on?” I asked once again, as he made me sit in his gaming chair.
“So… I was editing the footage we recorded at this creepy house, and I found some weird shit,” he started before he leaned against the desk, looking for the right file to show me. “I watched every frame of these tapes, and there’s something seriously wrong with your individual session in the basement.”
“What do you mean by wrong? Can you be more specific? I didn’t feel nor see anything weird when I was down there,” I said, cocking my eyebrows up in utter confusion. Was there something my eye didn’t catch, but the camera did?
“Well… there is like a shadow lingering above you,” Jungkook confessed, and I fought the urge to laugh into his face. It was a shadow, and shadows do linger. “You don’t seem convinced, so why don’t you see for yourself?”
“Ugh, fine,” I answered, focusing on the screen.
I couldn’t believe my own eyes. Jungkook was right. It lasted for a couple of seconds; there was an irregular black specter behind me, and it couldn’t be my shadow – I was perfectly still while it moved for a while, and then disappeared.
It was terrifying.
“I’m speechless.”
Seeing my reaction, Jungkook sat on the edge of the desk and grabbed my hand.
“I know it looks like something supernatural, but I’m pretty sure it can be explained somehow. Don’t worry; all fellow ghost hunters would discredit this evidence in seconds.”
“I’m not worried; I don’t know what I’m feeling, but it’s not worry,” I spoke, still a little shook about the discovery. “Did you find anything else when editing?” I inquired, wondering if Jungkook had more aces up his sleeve.
“Nothing solid,” he declared with a sigh. “I was listening to the messages picked up by the spirit box, and one statement which you assumed unintelligible sounds like not alone, but once again, it’s not perfectly clear. It’s probably just my mind interpreting the white noise.”
“Too bad ghosts ain’t real. If we caught it on tape, we would be millionaires,” I confessed, and Jungkook nodded.
“If it makes you feel any better, I think we’ve gathered a lot of entertaining footage; my viewers are going to love it. It’s probably the dumbest video I’ve ever recorded,” Jungkook spoke, and I started to grin.
He was right – we were a great duo.
“Glad, I could help,” I answered proudly, boasting about my recording skills. Having tooted my own horn for an inappropriate amount of time, I inquired, “Since I’m already here, what do you want to do?”
“How about we cuddle?” Jungkook proposed, plopping on his bed, waiting for me to join him, and since his proposition was irresistible, I obediently lay down beside him, resting my head on his firm chest. “Mm… it’s so comfy,” Jungkook purred as he wrapped his arms tightly around me.
“Have you decided where you’re taking me tomorrow?” I inquired, curious as hell about our date. Knowing Jungkook and how perfect he was at everything he did, I could only guess he would exceed my wildest expectations.
“How is it gonna sound if I tell you I’ve already had it planned out for a while?” Jungkook confessed, and I giggled when he started to press delicate kisses across my neck. It was ticklish, but I liked being teased like that.
“Is there a chance you tell me? You know I hate surprises,” I spoke, turning around on my side, caressing Jungkook’s chest and abs. Jungkook smiled adorably and shook his head. Damn it. “Is there a chance I can guess it?” I tried a different approach, but Jungkook shook his head once again.
“You’ll find out tomorrow,” Jungkook said, and I pouted.
“Is there a chance I can convince you to tell me now?” I challenged him, and before he managed to shake his head again, I sat astride on his muscular thighs, making him speechless. “You can tell me. I can pretend I’m surprised tomorrow,” I urged him, playfully moving my hips against his crotch. Curiosity was in my nature, and Jungkook was really getting under my skin with his stubbornness.
“You’re cute when you’re frustrated,” Jungkook stated before he effortlessly flipped us over, pinning me down to the mattress. “I’d love to push you to your limits, but I’m not ruining the surprise.”
“Come on, Jungkook. You can tell me. We’re best friends, and we don’t keep secrets from each other,” I carelessly mumbled until Jungkook shut me up with a passionate kiss, reminding me that we no longer were just best friends.
With my eyes closed, I gave in entirely, letting Jungkook’s hands roam all over my body. Our mouths moved in sweet harmony while my body writhed beneath him every time his little touches set my skin on fire.
This moment was magical, and I wished every time with Jungkook to be just as good. His smooth and soft movements made my body respond, leaving me breathless and craving for me whenever it lost contact with his hands.
“I really want to fuck you right now,” Jungkook absentmindedly confessed while he was pressing sensual kisses along my chin. “We should wait, shouldn’t we?” I inquired, and I wanted to shout my objection.
Judging by his boner digging into my thigh, he also wanted me to oppose.
“You should’ve thought about it before you kissed me like that,” I replied, and Jungkook smirked, tugging my blouse out of my jeans, slipping his large hands on my bare stomach, slowly making his way up to my breasts. “It’s too late to go back, lover boy,” I added, undoing the buttons of my blouse.
“Fuck, you’re gorgeous.”
“Drop dead,” I corrected him, and Jungkook hummed in agreement, his eyes focused on my cleavage, wondering how my breasts bounce. Arching my back, I wrapped my hands around Jungkook’s hips, pressing them against me, making me feel his throbbing cock.
“You won’t be a good girl, will you?” Jungkook asked me, and I bit my lip, shaking my head, hoping he expected such an answer. “Of course, you won’t. Why did I even ask?” Jungkook smirked, playfully nibbling my delicate skin all over my cleavage, while his hand undid the button of my jeans.
“You always assume the worst when it comes to me,” I reminded him, tugging the hem of his T-shirt, wanting to get rid of it. It wasn’t fair – I was almost half-naked while Jungkook was still fully-clothed. “Take it off, I’m losing my patience,” I ordered, and Jungkook quickly pulled his T-shirt over his head, tossing in on the floor. “Jeans, too,” I added, and with an angry growl, Jungkook stood up and discarded his pants as well.
“Happy?” Jungkook asked, standing in front of me only in a pair of boxers.
“Over the moon,” I retorted, and Jungkook smirked as a playful idea crossed his mind. “What are you thinking about?” I questioned uncertainly, but Jungkook didn’t bother to reply. He just leaned forward, slid his fingers under the hem of my jeans, and pulled them down in one fluid motion.
“You make me impatient,” he confessed, and I kneeled on the bed, waiting for him to join me again. I needed him to kiss every inch of my body.
Right now.
“Come here,” I urged him, and he obediently sat on the bed, allowing me to sit astride on him again. “I wanna fuck you like this,” I blurted out, entwining my fingers behind Jungkook’s neck, pulling him closer into another heated kiss.
“I want you to fuck me like this,” Jungkook whispered when we finally parted. “Just jump on it and ride me until I come,” he said before reaching to his night stand for a condom. “Roll it down for me, will you?”
Obediently, I pulled Jungkook’s boxers down, and smeared the pre-cum all over his thick cock before putting a condom.
“I wanted it for so long,” Jungkook whispered when I raised my hips, slowly getting seated on his length. Though Jungkook didn’t go down on me before I took his cock, I didn’t mind it. It stung a little, but I enjoyed this sensation.
“Fuck yeah,” I moaned when I slid down his length all the way to the base. For a short while, neither of us moved, letting one another get used to it. “You stretch me up so fine,” I muttered, gently rolling my hips.
“Move, princess,” Jungkook urged me, and I began to ride him. At first, my actions were delicate and a little shy, but as soon as I relaxed, I picked up the pace, rocking my hips back and forth, making Jungkook moan loudly.
“I love it when men are vocal,” I confessed when I put my hands in his hair, tugging it slightly when I happened to fall out of my rhythm. “It gets me off much faster,” I added, and as if I challenged him, Jungkook moaned again.
“Good to know; now I gotta use this information to my advantage,” Jungkook whimpered with a soft smirk upon his face. “You love hearing my deep moans, don’t you?” Jungkook asked, and I replied in a heartbeat.
“Yes!” I exclaimed when Jungkook began thrusting his hips from underneath, shoving his cock deeper and deeper inside of me. “Ahh… Jung-Jungkook, keep fucking me like that, please, don’t stop,” I begged, and Jungkook even increased his pace, quickly making me overwhelmed in pleasure.
“Your pussy feels so good,” Jungkook started, and I closed my eyes, feeling my orgasm approaching. With a couple of thrusts, I would come around his pulsating cock, and I couldn’t wait to welcome this blissful feeling. “So tight, yet you take my fat cock so well,” he praised, and I pulled his hair when he made me come.
“Fuck, Jungkook, that was amazing,” I praised him, and Jungkook kept ramming his dick inside of me, chasing his own release. His stamina was no joke, and I was feeling lucky because this incredible man was mine.
“Shit, shit, shit, I’m coming.” Shortly after me, Jungkook reached his orgasm, milking the condom with his jizz. “You’re out of this world,” Jungkook whispered before he wrapped his arms around me tightly, kissing me deeply.
We were both sticky with sweat, and we smelled like sex, but right now, I couldn’t care any less. Jungkook and I were floating in heaven.
“We should do it again in the morning,” Jungkook proposed, and I laughed, realizing it was the first time in my life I was actually excited to wake up early.
Unfortunately, our plans fell through.
Before my arrival, Jungkook had uploaded our Halloween clip into his YouTube channel, and then, Jimin forwarded it to Jiwoo.
Needless to say, Jiwoo blew up my inbox with notifications, furious at me and Jungkook for doing something so reckless shit without her supervision. Once again, she was the mom friend, and going into an abandoned house without her knowing was pure evil.
Thankfully, she didn’t hold a grudge for a long time – she grew pretty soft on us as soon as she discovered Jungkook and I were well… dating.

Mord did not know what to make of what he was seeing and hearing. He was aboard the deadliest craft that he had ever heard of, and her commander, was crying — — — For enemy dead. He felt guilty about the thoughts of a few minutes before. Putting his arms about her, he held her until she calmed. She parted from him gently and sat him on one of the big cushions next to her.
Getting a grip on herself, Sula said with a cold rage, “When we find who did that to Kurin, I hope that we can take them without loss. If we do have to sink them, I will put them on the bottom without a tear. I have my sailors making inquiries to see if we can find the ones responsible.” Mord was glad that ferocity was not directed at his ship.
Mord seated himself and said, “We also have inquiries under way, as does the Council and a number of ships that are friendly to us.”
The problem of finding evidence solved itself. A young deck-hand of the Grython was brought in late that night, with the symptoms of Ord poisoning. His case was not as advanced as Kurin’s and he responded well to treatment, at first.
“Off with your shirt,” Dr Worran ordered him, intending to see if he still had the strength and coordination to do it. Wordlessly, the young man struggled with what should have been a simple task. The Doctor helped him, observing his eyes and respiration at the same time.
“Where did you get that inflamed patch on your right chest?” she asked him urgently.
He shook his head as if having trouble speaking, then mumbled, “Dunno … It itched a little, but it stopped.”
Doctor Worran picked up his shirt and felt something long in the right pocket. She removed it from his pocket with long tweezers. She applied a thin paste to the point and washed it off carefully.
She burst in on Sula and Mord, holding her find carefully in the tweezers. “Look what I found on that young man who just came in! I’ve a mind to let him die.”
Mord looked with horror at the Ord spine, revealed for what it was by the ugly greenish brown left by the testing paste. It was neatly mounted in a handle. It looked like an ordinary sail maker’s awl. “What ship is he from?” was all that he said, as he carefully looked over the lethal tool.
“The Grython,” answered Doctor Worran.
Mord said thoughtfully, “I would not have expected that. The Grython has been fast friends to the Longin for many Gatherings. We need to talk to this man, if he can still speak.”
They went quickly to the sick bay. Doctor Worran pointed out the inflamed area of right chest. “He was carrying the spine uncovered in his right shirt pocket. The poison worked through the fabric and his skin.”
“I see,” said Sula. “He probably did not know what he was carrying, then. I wonder how he got it?”
The sailor struggled against unwilling muscles to turn his head towards them. His voice was almost inaudible, and he was clearly fighting for the breath to speak at all, “I won it on a dare. A pair of sailors bet me a whole Selked-made sail stitching kit that I couldn’t poke the awl into Kurin’s lunch unseen, for a prank. I didn’t know it would hurt her. When I heard what happened, I took the awl from the kit and started to come here. I didn’t make it. I’m sorry.”
“You did well. Who were they?” asked Mord. “What was their ship?”
“I don’t know for sure,” he husked. “I saw one them in the Grandalor’s booth earlier. I did recognize the other, but didn’t realize who he was until too late. He was Silor Elon. I don’t know where he is now.” It was a grim and angry pair of Captains who headed topside. By now the sun was beginning to rise on the eastern horizon.
Mord told his Craft Masters what had happened and added, “This perfidy must be reported to the Council. Who will go with me?” Every hand went up. Master Juris asked to look at the awl.
“There is Selked’s mark. That means that he made this aboard the Grandalor,” he pronounced like it was a doom.
Chapter 12a: Flight of the Grandalor
“Dark Iren devour those fools!” Barad raged. “Nobody will believe that we tried to stop them. We will all swim for their idiocy! By the time that the Council finds their mistake, they will have to send their apologies by way of Iren’s Orcas!”
Mister Timms paused in his duties long enough to agree, saying, “As many of us was involved in one way and another, Sir, I’m sure that you’re right. Many inquired about the Ord and many more worked in the experiments. Best we give the Council time to cool down before we try to explain.”
All about him the crew was quietly and efficiently preparing the Grandalor to get under way. Tanlin was at the small floating dock, greeting each boat and speaking quietly to the new arrivals as the crew inconspicuously came aboard, a few at a time. Occasionally, a boat left the ship with a few folk on it.
Moonlight glittered across the water, pursuing little Dorac over the horizon. All about them, only the stars and the running lamps and masthead lights of the sleeping Naral fleet provided any light. It would be six hours before swift little Dorac rose again, followed shortly by mighty Wohan. Six hours of darkness. Six hours to flee for their lives.
Without tocsins or shouted orders, cables were slipped from the anchorage float and sails were set as silently as the wind allowed. As she began to move, her masthead lights and running lamps were extinguished, one by one. Following the constellation known as the Sea Hawk, the Grandalor raced SSE through the darkness under all of the canvas that she could fly, with no lights showing, straight away from the sleeping Gathering.
As soon as the last of the masthead lanterns of the Naral fleet fell below the horizon, Barad wrote an extensive Log entry and took out his Three Dragons set.
Tanlin, who had just come off duty as First Officer of the Second Night Watch, relaxed into the cushions of one of the cabin’s chairs and looked on with interest.
“W’at’re ye doin’, Luve?”
“Trying to save our lives and our ship, in that order. I have entered the whole true account of Kurin’s poisoning into the Log. It cannot save me. Unless we escape the fleet, I will die for Kurin’s murder. It may well save you and others innocent of the killing.”
“T’at’s a good t’ing t’at ye’re doin’, m’ ‘Eart — — ‘ow’ll T’ree Dragons save us?”
“I have broken the course rose into seven possible tacks. The dice will tell us which way to go. If white lands on a number less than fifty, we hold course for an hour and roll again. Whichever of these two dice eats the other gives us the course to follow, from this table. He held up a tallow-slate with a neatly made table on it. If neither one eats the other, we split the difference for our course. We exclude only courses that we know to be dangerous.
“Roll the first one, Tanlin, and pray to the Dragons that it’s a good cast.”
As the dice rattled in the cup Tanlin thought, ‘E knows t’at ‘e’s doomed. Even i’ we go t’ t’e Arrakans, t’ey won’t shield ‘im from murder, so w’at does ‘e do? ‘E still t’inks o’ gain an’ loss but now ‘is t’ought’s for t’ose close t’ ‘im an’ ‘is crew. ‘Ow many in ‘is place wad do as much? Few. Nane t’at Oi can t’ink o’. An’ Oi married ‘im! Pride swelled in her heart as the dice bounded clattering about the board and came to rest.
They leaned over the board together and she put an arm about his waist. He absently stroked her hair and put an arm around her as he read the fall of the dice.
“Dragon eats skelt, seventy three.” He consulted his chart and figured the correction for the present course in his head. “East-North-East. That will take us across the fleet, just out of their sight.” As he straightened, she wrapped her other arm about him and gave him a spontaneous kiss.
“So close? Shall Oi t’row again?”
“No. A better course could not have been chosen. If there is pursuit and I am sure there will be, it will make us hard to see because of the glare of the early sun. It also cuts back and across our track. Any trying to find us by following our course will be thrown off as well.”
“Oi’ll take care o’ t’e corse change, Luve. Ye’ve ‘ad a ‘orrible day. ‘Ow long do we ‘old ‘t?”
“Seven and a half hours.” He looked down at her for a rare unguarded moment. Why did it take so long to find you? I know that Teralat would have liked you. The memory of his long dead wife hadn’t hurt since he’d realized that he actually respected Kurt— no, Tanlin. He now knew for certain that his feelings had become more than respect.
“Aye, seven an’ a ‘alf ‘ours. So, seventy t’ree? T’e forst digit’s t’e ‘ours an’ t’e second’s t’e minutes by tens?” she questioned as she set the water clock to time the tack.
“Yes. You know, I married you for more than your stunning good looks.”
“Oi know. Ye got t’ose t’.” She flipped her fall of hair saucily as she left. Arriving on deck, she became a First Officer.

The Mean Girls club gets destroyed
So a while back I had the joy of stopping around 5 girls who had been openly using and abusing people. Most of them ended up losing partners and almost all their friends one lost their job two went to jail and they all lost their social status.
So context, years ago I worked in a large corporate store, trust me you would know if I told you the name. Now during this time I was in a dark place emotionally for various reasons and was very much a loaner which led to me being a target for this one girl (let’s call her CS for cos-play slut) now I know it sounds terrible me calling her that but really it’s what she was and trust me as this story goes on you’ll see why.
Now she quickly befriends me and gets me to help with video editing and photo shots I say yes as at the time I was trying to get into content creation and figured it’d help and I was a very lonely depressed virgin at the time and any girl showing interest in me made my brain go crazy. Looking back I kick myself for letting her use me that way but I was stupid and didn’t know better. This girl used me for everything from making me edit videos for her and her friends totaling around 3 or 4 videos a day all with different styles and length to getting up early to help with shoots that had to be done at sun up to get “the magic hour”. (I know it’s a real thing but still not the best thing to spend your day doing when your days off are spent making videos)
As well as using my help for her online stuff she used me for a lot of other things rides to her “meetings” with potential photographers (she never picked her them she was just sleeping with them) to buying her movie tickets that’d she would go to claim being alone with me in a theatre made her nervous so I’d have to wait outside for then I’d have to buy her food on a daily basis at work then if we ever did anything outside of it.
Now I know this sounds like I was the worlds biggest cuck and yeah I was. I had no self confidence as previously stated was a virgin with very little ability to socialize and never learned to choose how and when to give my help. So I was an easy target for all this, my parents tried to warn me against it but i didn’t listen and even at one point told her I liked her only for her to laugh in my face.
This went on for months in that time I quit content creation but was still editing her videos and was always doing something for her. One day while she was having me buy her supplies for another cosplay we ran into another girl whom we will call RB (random bitch) she was nice enough very energetic at first and I felt like we could get along so we exchanged info and became friends on fb. Afterwards CS told me how she was in a relationship and not to try and hit on her not even talk to her because I gave off a “creeper” vibe.
I only mention that interaction before this next one because it is chronological and because it was the first time I can ever trace back to the two of them working together against me. So after that CS starts going after another guy not gonna give him a special name but let’s just say he was terrible I mean really bad. Him and CS meet up once bang them he tells her all these lies about emotional damage and how they have to keep things a secret but still wants to be together. She believes him but he ghosts her she gets worried and has me look into from my end with an old friend. Now here two things happen that to this day I’m happy happened because it let me later on get my revenge the first was I created a second fb account pretending to be a girl the next was CS gave me full access to her fb.
Now like I said this dude was bad news he was cheating on her didn’t even need to catfish him just sent him a friend request and got dp back. Then I learned from some friends he did this serially and then ran across a girl who after I asked her about him responded “that’s the man that raped me don’t contact me again.”
I gathered all this evidence and brought it to CS and she flat out refused to believe it was real claiming I had faked it and was just jealous of him and that she and I were never going to be friends again. I said ok and we stopped being friends.
Now then that was my interaction with CS, after we broke off our friendship I started messaging RB and we became friends little did I know the real story behind them. I’ll be quicker with this than with RB but to put it lightly she was worse she would constantly have me just give her money and buy her things like expensive things. I never felt like I could say no because if I did she would give a sob story about her sad childhood and me being a bleeding heart would cave.
This went on for two years during which time I got a lot better more self confident and a better all around person but i always would go back to my sad self when she would belittle me. Finally I had had enough I told her to stop messaging me and we weren’t friends anymore. She took it hard dragging my name thru the mud at the end of it I had one friend left.
Skip ahead two months and I’m feeling way better I’m smiling more often no longer wanna take my own life and am feeling great. But I was still upset about everything that had happened but couldn’t do anything that was until I got bored one day and was looking thru my phone and saw something interesting. CS’s account was still logged into my phone a second profile. On a lark I tried opening it it let me she hadn’t changed her password and had given it permission to just sign in.
I thought I was just gonna have a weird voyeuristic look into her life but what I found was even worse a fb group that was literally called “Mean Girls Club” in it I found 5 girls including RB and CS all talking about what they were getting guys to buy them and do for them. It was horrid to look at I scrolled up and up and up all the way to the first message and it went back years. I don’t know how but these 5 had been doing it for so long it was crazy.
It was then I started to form a plan. The first thing I did was screen shot everything and when I mean everything I mean I had thousands of pictures from this including but not limited to pictures of stuff they had bought or had bought for them. Nudes of their partners or of people they were interested in and then the biggest one a shared drop box folder filled with pictures and videos of them doing a lot of nasty stuff I mean really bad. Apparently this whole thing was set up so that none of them could stop nor back down at anytime due to the blackmail Dropbox and the fact the rest of the group would back the others.
I know this is crazy to understand but let me put it this way from what I gathered to OG group was a total of 8 girls and 1 guy the numbers that left all were told they would be ruined and boy was it bad. I read about them making some of the people leaving lose their jobs and families falsely accusing the one guy of rape of which if what they said was true he was forced to move to another state because of the rumors.
On top of that they ruined a local store making them go out of business and then getting another guy thrown in jail after they accused him of attacking one of them. I can list plenty of what they did that was bad but mostly all of it was them bragging about guys they were using for stuff and money and what they could get them to buy them. I of course was on there as was everything I ever bought them totaling around 5500 over two years. The two of them CS and RB were so proud of what they did.
I was astonished by what had happened and was honestly very hurt by it all I knew they were bitches but nothing of this level. So I did what anybody would do I turned them against each other. The first thing I did was use my fake profile to enter into the group chat under the guise of a friend of CS’s. Took some time and creative use of the two profiles but I did it then moved onto insight some war by messaging each of them about the others of the course of a month I had them all suspicious of each other with some he said she said then I struck with one reveal.
I sent RB’s bf a message from CS’S profile in sighting them to openly flirt then took a step back and told RB about it. All the while with my fake profile I told CS that RB wanted to burn her by sending out her blackmail then I messaged the rest relaying info on the upcoming conflict telling them to prepare to burn another person if someone else struck (think start of world war 1 but with 20 something girls). 3 hours was all it took from went that past message went out to the first “bomb” fell. It was glorious each one destroying the other telling significant others about lies cheating and theft. Jobs being called about misuse of company property and inappropriate behavior in the work place. Full on sex tapes were posted to tons of porn sites.
It was three months later that the dust cleared everyone but CS had deleted their social media accounts. It was then that CS started in on my fake account demanding for some form a of repayment stating she had never added me to the the group and that no one had had any dirt on me so I was unscathed. I responded with “Well let’s just say I’m a bitch, the names Karma.”
I deleted the profile and lost the login info for CS. I keep the Dropbox stuff though and screenshots since I’m sure if they ever put two and two together they could guess who I was. But now a full year later nothing.
I’ve not been able to know more then the basic repercussions of this sense I didn’t know the other three personally but RB ended up homeless for a few months before going to jail sense some of the blackmail was a video of her doing drugs while skipping a court date about drug use (she openly stated in the video the date and that the courts could suck it and told them later she was helping a friend go thru some hard time to get an extension) jail due to her breaking parole and lying to a judge. CS lost her day job and all but around 30 of over 5k followers as well as her bf who she was cheating on then he back up bf since she was cheating on him with another guy who was just in it for the sex. Last I heard she moved back in with her parents and can’t keep a job due to her running into people who know what happened.
TL:DR Got emotionally and financially used by two girls and then made their mean girl chat destroy each other’s lives.
PS if rslash is reading this hope you know you inspired me to share this because your vids are amazing.

no one asked but im fuckin emo about relationships and communities online in 2020 so im going to go on a rambling essay like only someone with unmedicated ADHD can
When I turned 13 I was allowed to have My Own Computer With Internet in my room. The first thing I did was find and join an online forum about video games (this was early 2000′s, forums were a thing). I made over 100 posts my first DAY because I was so excited to talk to other people who liked video games and stuff and could talk about how actually I learned in biology that one of the ocarina of time bosses being a giant single-celled amoeba is unscientific.
Like, before I was allowed to be On The Internet TM, I talked to friends at school about video games by forcing my 3 friends to play the games I wanted to talk about, and then we would talk about them. And even once I joined these online spaces, it was totally different because everyone got to kind of just pick their own name and their own image to represent them so it was like a totally different, separate life.
Growing up, having these online communities where I had a sort of anonymity but still could interact with and meet people and form really close relationships, in addition to niche IRL friendships, was really important. I didn’t really have a lot of drama in IRL friend groups but boy there was forum drama and I feel like I got a lot of exposure to social interactions and stuff that way. I feel like I got the Authentic Teen Experience TM more online than in person.
(My first relationship was an online relationship with someone I met on this forum. Not to entirely derail, but it started out as a ‘joke’ and we pretended to be dating, and I have like insanely long AIM chat logs of the whole event to prove it.)
Anyway, I think I would be having an easier time with this if the forum had just gone under 10 years ago like all the rest of them did, but it has kind of been on life support this whole time and is still alive, and I’m having a LOT of feelings about it.
I really don’t want to talk about details here, I kind of don’t even care about them anymore, it’s just sad that this forum more exists as an animated corpse of what once was that a lot of us old farts still log onto every now and then, but there’s no real effort or desire to re-invest into trying to keep it alive or fresh and live on as a space new people might want to come to. I’m a mod of one of the sub-forums because I was modded 10 years ago and there’s no one to replace me. And now we are at a place where a known racist asshole is possibly going to be banned and somehow that is a line some people are mad we might cross.
At this point, I am tempted to just log off and never log back on again. I would be legitimately interested if there was a desire to re-invest in this community and make it welcoming to people who might stumble across it seeking refuge from all the huge corporate viral social media sites; somewhere they could call home if they managed to come across it and want to make an account. I’d be willing to put in the work to help draft new community guidelines, assist with elections or appointments for new mods, whatever it might take to make it feel like the place belongs to anyone who wants to be there.
But as it stands now, the only mods are people who were modded 10 years ago, the newest new member joined 2 years ago, and almost no one wants to start any topics that touch anything serious because some dickwad is gonna come in and talk about how actually SJWs are ruining america or some shit.
I don’t like feeling like a part of this site that sort of just exists as a nod to some heyday from like 15+ years ago. I’m ready to let it go, but I would rather either pull the plug on it or try to make significant changes so it has a chance to be a refuge to someone else. As it is now, it just seems kind of sad.
I’m DOUBLE emo about it because I am really really frustrated by the fact that in 2020 it seems like there is NO way to engage with people that isn’t being filtered by corporate-owned social media platforms, and they are less interested in helping people form healthy relationships and more interested in what can go viral and make them more money.
I can’t imagine being a teen right now trying to form friendships in this landscape. I had hoped to make an effort to go back to this small forum this past year to kind of get that small niche interaction but.. well, you know, now This. I’m just frustrated all around.
I still have a few outlets. I live with my roommate of like 10 years, I have a girlfriend (who lives in texas RIP), I have made a lot of friends in the Tales of Symphonia speedrun community and a few from cosplay, I have a couple IRL friend circles. But... I don’t know; I am missing this kind of purely online, niche community. And maybe that’s fine and they just don’t exist anymore, but that was such a huge part of my social sphere growing up that I don’t really know how to make up for that now?
I miss doodling some amateurish fanart, posting it on DeviantArt as a host and then putting it on this forum where like 2-3 friends who were also amateurish artists would comment on how nice the shading was and post their own art in their own art threads. Now it feels like, okay I can put it on twitter or wherever but I’m competing with professionals who do this for a living.
I need to find new communities that are healthy for me, and I am trying to grapple with the fact that it definitely will look different from how it did in 2006, but that’s okay if I can still meet people and grow from it.
[EDIT: I did try the fandom discord server thing but wew... man any server with overlike 50 people in it just turns into the equivalent of a subreddit real fast. I dunno. If your sole engagement with these people is about how much you both like X thing, it stops being meaningful pretty fast I think? Maybe I’m just being old and grouchy. But I’ve left or muted virtually every fandom specific discord I’m in. The only ones I’m active on are the Tales Speedrun discord and uhhhh... hm that’s about it.]

Character post: Aoi Zaizen
Why I like them/why I don’t:
Out of all Yu-Gi-Oh girls so far, Aoi feels the most relatable of them all. She is a lot like a grown-up version of Luna/Ruka from 5Ds with a similar mannerism and personality. Aoi has a really timid nature and the fact that she is so sheltered by Akira that she feels he doesn’t even trust her hits home hard. But what I really love about her is her development. She learns from her mistakes and tries to become the best version of herself. The actions she takes in order to change herself don’t always play in her favour and even then she keeps on trying. Aoi represents exactly what you should do if you face failure in life – make changes and learn from your mistakes. Unlike Go, she never succumbed to her own insecurities and rather used them in order to change for the better. While she may appear pretty naïve and stubborn at first, you can really see how she slowly transforms into a person she always wished to be.
She is also a good representation of a celebrity with depression. The episode that showed her life outside VRAINS nearly broke my heart. From the way she talked with Yusaku and members of duel club, to how she just ran away after Yusaku asked her about Akira and how she was lying on bed looking like she was about to cry… it was just hard to watch considering there are people who are actually suffering the same way. But then she logged in VRAINS and instantly became a bubbly Charisma Duelist to entertain people. While a lot of people compare Go to Yuya, I actually see Aoi to be more like Yuya. Her Blue Angel persona is just like Yuya’s goggles, a mask she hides behind to cover up her tears and she presents herself as someone who is always smiling.
When her wings broke after her loss to Yusaku… it just perfectly represented how she finally broke down a lot like how Yuya lost to Reiji and Jack. At that point, I was really afraid she would follow the same road that Go did in season 2 – her insecurities and depression getting the best of her, but she didn’t. No, instead she put some thought about it before she did anything. When her fans were bashing her name, it seemed like she was going to break again. Thank God Emma came to her rescue! What I love about her relationship with Emma the most is the fact that she is the kind of a person that Aoi always needed. Once Miyu was revealed it also made me realize why Aoi had a hard time finding friends – she was afraid of being separated from a friend and didn’t want to be hurt by it again. Emma let her know that she’ll be always on her side and this was the encouragement that she needed to make a step further.
Her style of duelling is also one of my favourites – the burndown strategy. When she was duelling that AI who had the same technique and they were burning each other’s LP down like crazy was really entertaining to watch. I was a bit disappointed once she no longer used that technique, though I liked that she acknowledged it as something that needs to be improved. In overall her character is just as complex as Yusaku’s and I’m glad that it was explored a lot.
The only downside to her character is how her character is treated. Unfortunately, female characters are something that Shin Yoshida doesn’t know how to handle and this plays a big part in her representation. She had many losses that downgraded her lot. While she made a very big comeback in season 2 as Blue Maiden she also had a big downfall as well. In other words, Aoi’s character deserved so much more but was unfortunately pushed aside many times.
What I like about their appearance
The fact that she has so many avatars! I actually cosplayed Blue Angel and this was one of the most difficult cosplays I’ve ever made, but I in no way regret it since it is a very cute outfit and I’ve learned so many cosplay-making techniques while making it. I also really like how each avatar in a way presents one part of her. Blue Angel is her childhood dream, a hero she wanted to become. Blue Girl represents her desire to be like Ghost Girl and make a change. And Blue Maiden is her embracing all of herself and honourably joining Team Playmaker. Her avatars give this Magical Girl feel that combine her kind nature with power in order to save the world. While magical girl anime portrays that more ribbons, sparkle and skirts equals more power, Aoi’s avatar changes are the exact opposite, showing that sometimes less can be more.
And the part I love the most and was the most difficult to make? Her wings! I think I spent nearly three whole days just figuring out how to make those wings stand! In the end, I used some very thick wires, extra strong duct tape and a handmade posture supporter to keep it still. And it was so worth it! I was a bit sad that Blue Girl didn’t have wings, so when Blue Maiden’s wings were shown I was excited as hell! I also really like her twintail hairstyle since I tend to wear my hair in this style too. When I cosplayed Blue Angel not that many people recognized the character, but those few who did really liked it and one of them even showed me all of the Trickstars he had in his deck! I had a really wonderful experience as Blue Angel and I even won the third place in cosplay contest! To conclude – I love absolutely everything about her appearance and I wouldn’t mind cosplaying her or her other avatars again!
Do I prefer their dub names or original names?
While I really like the name Skye, it kinda sounds off for Aoi. I’ve grown really used to her original name so when her dub name was revealed… it just didn’t sound like her. I guess it could work as her user name since Skye goes well with her avatar’s wings, puffy skirt and blue colours like a short nickname for Blue Angel. Aoi is also the name of a hollyhock flower that represents the cycle of life which nicely symbolizes the changes that Aoi went through when changing her avatars and overall personality.
OTP
Definitely Miyu or Takeru, hard to decide. Miyu was introduced really late in the series and didn’t get that much screen time or backstory and yet it was enough to give away all necessary information about her. I made many theories why I thought Aoi was Aqua’s origin and in a way, she is - all because of Miyu. While all cheerful and caring, Miyu could’ve been lonely and even if she wasn’t, she choose to befriend someone who was. It is not clear how long the two of them were friends, though it most likely not long and yet out of all people, Miyu choose Aoi to be her anchor. Aqua basically represents Miyu’s love for Aoi and I’m sure that once Aoi gets to meet Miyu it will be a very emotional reunion.
Then there’s Takeru and let’s face it, he is the kind of a character that can be shipped with anyone and it would still work. Still, I genuinely believe he has a secret crush on Aoi. When he passed Aoi in school, he didn’t appear to have much interest towards her though that could be because that was the first time he saw her as Aoi and not as Blue Angel. The duel they had as Soulburner and Blue Girl was pretty entertaining to watch and the encouragement he gives her in the end was very well-meaning and kind. The second time he meets her in real life is completely different as he approaches her right away and introduces himself. Considering how shy Takeru can be it is very unlikely he would do that with just anyone, so the fact that he did that with Aoi shows that he is interested in becoming her friend. Kiku said that he is not much of a friendly person, so the fact that he approached someone else besides Yusaku really says a lot. Their relationship would really work as they both love duelling and testing themselves. I hope that they get to have a tag duel one time together as they could really fit each other well despite representing opposite elements (water and fire) since this could be the first time for such combination in a tag duel. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a tag duel in the third season since I really enjoyed Aki and Crow tag duel in 5Ds and this could give some nostalgia.
NOTP
At first I didn’t know this even existed, but Aoi and Akira ship just feels wrong on so many levels. I know they aren’t blood-related but they are still siblings. While I really like their sibling relationship, romantic one would completely ruin it, especially how canon it actually felt during the first season. Like Aoi would use –sama for her brother which is reserved for masters and bosses, like she is super inferior to him and the whole reason why she went to duel Yusaku was so she could impress him, which resulted in her falling in coma. Even if they weren’t siblings, Aoi is still a minor and Akira is ten years older than her. At times Akira also acts a lot like her father which would make their romantic relationship that much worse.
I dislike romantic Aoi and Emma ship for the same reason. While I absolutely love their sisterly bond, the thought of them having something more just doesn’t feel okay. Maybe if Aoi was older like over 18 or in early 20s then it could work better. Even if Aoi would have feelings for Emma and she would want to start a relationship with her, I imagine Emma would tell her to wait. Emma is the kind of a person, who has no problem breaking a law, but getting in a relationship with a minor is something she wouldn’t do. I have no doubt that she loves Aoi like her little sister or a young partner in crime so a romantic relationship would pretty much ruin this nicely developed relationship.
OT3
Aoi, Miyu and Aqua! I don’t know why, but this trio just warms my heart. There’s no doubt that all three of them care about each other a lot and would form a really nice relationship with each other. In my perfect reality, both Aqua and Aoi come visit Miyu after everything is over, and together they create new VRAINS avatars in order to spend time with Aqua who is pretty much their lovechild. I see this trio to work in both platonic and romantic way since the three of them show nothing but kindness and care towards each other.
Favourite card they use
Marincess Crystal Heart. I already liked the concept of Crystal Heart, the fact that it symbolized Aqua’s and Earth’s love and that they did everything to keep it from being destroyed in the field. What truly made me love it even more was when Aoi used it in a duel against Bowman and empowered it. I believe that the heart still represents Aqua’s and Earth’s love and the water spirit protecting it is Aoi, protecting them both. From the start of their meeting, Aoi has been keeping Aqua safe and Marincess Crystal Heart perfectly represents that.
Favourite moment they were in
Her duel with Haru. After so many losses, the duel with Haru was the best comeback for Aoi. The character she has been building finally came into action and I absolutely enjoyed watching that duel. From the new archetype Marincess to how she stood her ground against Haru’s hurtful words - Aoi made it clear: she is back and ready to kick some ass! The new strategy, her partnership with Aqua and that badass skill when her wings showed up! And how she outright obliterated Haru’s LP! It was just amazing and it showed how far she has come. At that point, it really seemed like Aoi was set to win more duels...
Least favourite moment
... which is why her loss to Bowman was so sad. While it was no way as humiliating as her loss to Playmaker, Specter and Soulburner, it was still terrible. Bowman is disgustingly overpowered character and the fact that he used so many moves that were outright cheating really downgraded Aoi’s and Aqua’s character. I would be fine if Bowman defeated her with a good strategy, but no he used a literal asspull effect like he did the whole duel. He even tried to scare her and for a moment I thought Aoi would give in. Luckily she didn’t and I was so proud of her. Even the act of “mercy” was a very cheap move since Bowman is a freaking hypocrite and he probably used it just so he could feel better about losing Haru.
Back then when I was still hopeful about Aoi’s further character development I wrote a theory why she was capable of defeating Bowman with very good arguments and how it could play out well in the final conclusion of season 2. (it is here if you wish to check it out https://3w-writer-with-wings.tumblr.com/post/182925730720/lightnings-plans-and-why-i-believe-aoi-will ). I was really disappointed when Bowman won using the cheap moves since it looked like writing staff pushed away Aoi’s promising future for the sake of having Bowman win at all cost.
Would I fuck, marry or kill them
Can I just be her friend? Cuz really if I were to meet Aoi in real life, I would just hug her and take her out for ice cream or coffee and talk with her, letting her know that she is an amazing person and that she should never doubt herself cuz she is doing a great job at improving herself. I would likely be one of those Blue Angel fans in the crowd during her duels, holding banners with encouraging words or I would be writing a blog dedicated to her in order to support her, pretty much the same thing that I’m doing now. ;) If someone would bash her name and accuse her of things she didn’t do or weren’t her fault, you bet I would write a freaking essay similar to the one I made in order to defend Yusaku when someone made a youtube video ranting how boring he is.
Aoi Zaizen deserves more recognition and hopefully, she gets to shine more in the third season.
#aoi zaizen#aqua vrains#yugioh vrains#character anylsis#vrains#Blue Angel#aoi deserved better#I hope she will be back in season 3#yugioh needs more female characters like Aoi

So, before NDRV3 came out, I made a post about my predictions for the NDRV3 cast. Now that the game’s been out for a little over a month and there’s more accurate translations out there to give us an idea of what was going on, I felt like I should do sort of a follow-up post with some thoughts, such as which of my theories ended up being right, which ones were wrong, and a few other thoughts.
(This post will contain lots of spoilers.)
Kaede Akamatsu
Well... Remember how I said I didn’t think she’d be killed off in a twist, like some people predicted she’d be? Yeah, looks like I was wrong after all...
Seems I was right about her potential execution involving Monokuma playing a piano, albeit very different from the “death trap controlled by a piano keyboard” theory I came up with.
I wonder what kind of character she would’ve become if she had lived... I guess there will be fanfics exploring the possibilities.
Ki-Bo
I was wrong about him being one of the survivors, but at least he made it through most of the game.
If I recall correctly, Ki-Bo’s line about having recording functions was one of the first lines we heard from him in trailers and such. Ah, the foreshadowing. I thought the twist about Ki-Bo turning out to have unknowingly been the cameraman for the show all along was pretty clever.
His ahoge actually being an antenna was also a clever touch.
I kind of want to see him return in a sequel, like maybe the survivors managed to find the part of him containing his A.I. and find a way to transfer him into a computer or something until they find somebody with the right talents to make him a new body?
Rantaro Amami
In my speculation post, I named him as the most likely candidate to be the first victim. Looks I like got that one right!
In the end, he really didn’t end up being that important to the plot of this particular game, but... you know, his status as a survivor of previous killing games opens a lot of possibilities for a prequel spin-off story, or something. As I’ve mentioned in a different post, I’d also like a DR IF-esque story for V3 in which Rantaro could get a chance to shine.
Ultimate Survivor, or Ultimate Adventurer... Interesting talents. I assume the latter one would be the one used in Non-Despair AUs and such stories, for obvious reasons.
Shuichi Saihara
In my speculation post, I guessed that he would either be a survivor, or one of the last to die. Well, I wasn’t wrong, I guess.
Didn’t expect him to become the protagonist, but I’m okay with it. He seems like an interesting enough protagonist. Too bad about what happened to Kaede, though...
The poor guy went through a lot. Hopefully he and the other survivors will uncover the truth about their world, since the ending can pretty much be summed up as “We have no idea what’s actually going on, and neither do the characters!”
While I don’t think I mentioned this in my speculation post, I kind of thought that since DR1 had three boys and three girls survive, while SDR2 had three boys and two girls, I thought that maybe NDRV3 would have one female survivor more than male survivors. Guess I got that one right too, as Shuichi was the only survivor out of the boys in the end, while the other survivors were two girls.
Maki Harukawa
Just like Shuichi, I speculated that she’d either be a survivor or one of the last to die. Like Shuichi, it turned out to be the former.
Her role in the story ended up being pretty different from what I expected, with the Monokuma Cubs turning out to not be all that important to the story, and “Caregiver” turning out not to be Maki’s actual talent.
Ultimate Assassin, huh... Wonder how Kaede would’ve reacted if she had lived to learn about that.
And once again, we have a character with a talent related to killing, who doesn’t actually end up killing anyone during the game. She did come kind of close to doing it at some point, though.
Probably a good thing she survived. I mean, we don’t know exactly what awaits her and the other two survivors in the outside world, but having a badass like her on their side will probably come in handy.
Kokichi Ouma
I thought he might possibly be a survivor, but I was wrong about that one.
I guess I also kind of underestimated his jerk-ish ness. In the end, though, he wasn’t really a bad guy, although that doesn’t really excuse some of his actions, which he probably knew. At least, that’s how I understand it from what I’ve read.
He’s certainly an interesting character.
Tenko Chabashira
I was pretty sure she’d be a survivor, but I was wrong.
I was also wrong in my assumption that if she did end up being killed, the culprit would be one of the other girls.
When speculating about Himiko and her potential relationship with Tenko, I guessed that it would probably end in tears. I guess I was right about that one, but wrong about which of them would end up being the one to die.
Angie Yonaga
Looks like I ended up being right when I predicted that she’d be one of the victims.
... Can’t think of much else to say about her. She seemed like she had good intentions, even if she apparently went a bit mad with power during the third chapter.
Kaito Momota
During the speculation post, I mentioned that I didn’t know what to expect from Kaito’s character and whether he’d be a survivor, victim or killer.
I did eventually make a guess that if Shuichi died, then Kaito would be a survivor, while if Shuichi ended up being a survivor, then Kaito would die. Looks like I got that one right.
I also correctly guessed that his execution would involve a callback to Jin Kirigiri’s execution from the first game. Unlike my prediction, though, the rocket actually did make it off the ground. Well, it went through the ground, but at least he actually made it into space.
He ended up being more important than I expected, which probably shouldn’t have been that much of a surprise. He was one of the first characters we saw alongside Ki-Bo and Maki in early material, after all.
I wonder what illness of his was, but I get the feeling there won’t be a clear answer to that question.
Basically, I like him and the bonds he developed with Shuichi and Maki.
Miu Iruma
Like Kaito, I wasn’t sure what to expect from her.
I did for some reason think that if Maki died, then Miu would be a survivor, and vice versa. I guess I got that one right, even if that guess was made with the assumption there’d be more than three survivors.
Miu’s talent did end up playing a big role in the story, among other things providing the upgrades to Ki-Bo that allowed the survivors to escape at the end, if I’m not mistaken.
Her plan to kill Kokichi was pretty clever too, but of course, the little guy out-gambitted her.
Strangled to death with virtual toilet paper... Pretty embarrassing way to die.
Himiko Yumeno
I had thought she’d be a victim, but I was pleasantly surprised that she ended up surviving. Too bad Tenko didn’t survive too...
This cute little witch ends up going through a lot.
If we see her and the other survivors again in a sequel, I hope we get to see her busting out some impressing magic tricks in order to distract Monokuma or something while she and her friends are trying to break out the survivors of another killing game, or something.
Gonta Gokuhara
*sigh* He was too pure for this world, so of course he had to be destroyed.
I knew he wouldn’t live past chapter four. I expected him to be a victim rather than a culprit, though. I did mention a possibility of him killing someone by accident, but while people did believe that’s what happened for a while, that’s not really what happened either...
I also mentioned the speculation about the scene from one of the trailers where Monokuma was shown with a flamethrower that people thought might be part of Gonta’s execution, which turned out to be correct.
I feel so sorry for this guy. I mean, during the fourth trial, he has no idea what’s going on because he mixed up two wires and thus couldn’t remember anything from the virtual world after logging out. Then he finds out he’s the one who killed Miu, despite not remembering doing so or why he would’ve done it. And even after learning the truth from his Alter Ego created from his memories, he still doesn’t fully understand the circumstances that led to him murdering Miu as he lets Monokuma execute him...
And then there’s the execution itself... Even if he did kill Miu, he did not deserve to go out like that. I suppose it’s not as bad as “getting eaten by giant robotic bugs”, which it seems I’m not the only one who considered as a possible way he might get executed, but still, it was certainly brutal.
Tsumugi Shirogane
I had considered both her and Angie as characters everyone thought would be a killer, but that would turn out to be victims instead. While I was right about this being the case with Angie, Tsumugi turned out to be a different story...
At least I correctly predicted that she wouldn’t be a survivor, though. Her death was kind of anti-climatic, but I think that was the point.
Her cosplaying skills were truly impressive. I know there were those who wanted to see her cosplay as Junko, and they certainly got their wish. I also know some people wanted her to cosplay as Togami, and we got that wish granted as well, among others.
Ryoma Hoshi
I thought he might make some sort of sacrifice to save the others, either by murdering for a noble reason, or getting executed for breaking one of Monokuma’s rules. Instead, he simply turned out to be one of the victims.
I expected him to last longer than he did.
His death was pretty nasty too. At least he was already dead by the time the piranhas got to him...
Korekiyo Shinguji
I correctly guessed that he would be one of the killers.
I was wrong about the execution involving the thorny vine being his execution, though. His execution was a bit... stranger.
I’m just going to assume some of the... creepier aspects of his character were the result of the brainwashing he went through.
Kirumi Toujo
Once again, Kirumi is the last on the list. I correctly guessed that she’d be one of the killers.
The execution involving the thorny vines shown in one of the trailers was speculated to either be the execution for Korekiyo, Gonta or her, due to the spider web imagery featured in it. Turned out to be Kirumi’s execution.
I found it kind of amusing how her Game Over screen had her still running from Monokuma, rather than the usual one with Monokuma dragging the culprit away. I thought it was a nice touch.
And those are my thoughts on each character. Some closing thoughts:
While I’m perfectly fine with Shuichi as the main character, I do wish we could’ve seen more of Kaede. With the whole “lie” mechanic, I was really curious where her character development would go. Oh, well. I suppose some fanfic writers will probably do their own take on it.
I really wanted Tenko to survive, but... well, she didn’t. Not much else to say about that.
At least they’re all alive in the bonus modes. I’m especially grateful for the board game mode where they’re all alive, the DR1 kids are all alive and the SDR2 kids are okay as well.

Anime Central, 2018: Day 1
I meant to get this one written sooner, but it’s been kind of an exhausting work week since A-Cen. Anyhow..if you need more of my A-Cen 2018 stuff...
Previous Anime Central 2018 Posts:
A-Cen 2018: Day Zero
A-Cen 2018, Day 1 Cosplayers, Part 1
A-Cen 2018, Day 1 Cosplayers, Part 2
A-Cen 2018, Day 1 Cosplayers, Part 3
So my schedule didn’t quite work out the way I thought it would this year. But that’s okay. I spent the day as a Night Vale Girl Scout and @el-draco-bizarro and @someoldmemory were my troopmates. @lechevaliermalfet was Cecil Palmer of the Night Vale Community Radio Station. There are photos of us in the Day 1 cosplay post, or in this post from @el-draco-bizarro
Our group started off pretty much all together in the “Zen Cosplay: Cosplay made stress free!” panel. We were late, but that was okay. The goal of the panel was some basic cosplay education and tips for planning your cosplay effectively and efficiently. It was led by an awesome group of Over the Garden Wall cosplayers.
I would say that for beginners or those without a lot of planning and/or crafting skills, this is a decent reference panel. It was also entertaining, which was good.
@lechevaliermalfet and I had to cut out early in order to get to “The Myths and Legends of Fate/Stay Night”
I hope this one comes back next year. This was pretty frickin’ great and I would happily sit through it again. @lechevaliermalfet got me into the Fate franchise, but I still don’t really know the myths and legends surrounding all of the characters yet.
Also, that panel had this:
So, if you weren’t aware...the Fate franchise involves some characters’ gender being altered because...well, reasons. No, really, I’m not 100% clear on those reasons but I think we can safely blame magic for part, and Merlin for a few parts.
I actually regretted ducking out of this one early for my next panel: “Fatal Frame: They Did What With A Camera?”
This is the second Fatal Frame panel I have tried to attend this year and while I stayed to the end and it suited me a bit better than the one at Anime Zap...it still was lacking for me. At this point, I don’t know what I’m actually looking for in panels on this franchise, since gameplay demos and storyline rundowns don’t seem to be doing it for me. And yet, despite the fact I am a complete wimp, I adore these games.
I was introduced to them when one of my roommates in undergrad played through the first 3 over the course of the school year. Almost always at night, almost always with cursing and over-the-top dramatic flailing and mocking. @shbumi sometimes got in on the fun of watching her navigate the games and providing commentary. Anyway, I adore them, am too chickenshit to get far in them myself (though I own 1-3 for PS2 and the 3ds Spirit Camera spinoff), and just wanna squee over them with someone! But, apparently, not via panel, perhaps.
Moving on... I think we did this first, so I’m just going to put it here. Anime Central was helping promote Parasyte this year, so I participated. This is also how @lechevaliermalfet got a 3rd eye for his Cecil cosplay.
This year’s dealer’s room and artist alley felt better organized and had more breathing room than last year’s, I think. Things were still jam-packed in the best kind of way, though.
It felt too weird to really take good notes on things I liked/disliked on that area, but I really probably should have. Instead, I walked away with a note on a title to check out from the Funimation booth. A note - but not a purchase. I have learned a lesson from dealer’s rooms over the years, including Anime Central’s: Unless it is harder to track down (limited editions, soundtracks, etc). it is almost always cheaper to buy somewhere else.
They did move the chalk artist this year. I think that helped with the flow in the registration area, especially with the addition of lines for autograph tickets. But it also meant that when I was looking for him, he was harder to find! Maybe he was on the map and I missed it? I did find him eventually though.
From the dealer hall to the artist alley!
Look at that! So much more space to maneuver and get around! You could actually walk close to an artist’s booth and still leave room for someone else to purchase a thing while you browsed! It was great!
And so many talented artists this year! @lechevaliermalfet spent a record amount and bought a shitton of art and stuff, which I will log at a later point because omg, I love it all. @lechevaliermalfet and I then made our way into a guest panel: “Visual Novel Development and Q&A with Rosuuri”
It was interesting, and I’m curious about Rosuuri’s projects - but it really wasn’t for us. Neither of us are actually planning to develop a game or write for one or anything. We skipped out once the Q & A began to be a bit more technical.
I do believe dinner was then acquired. My timeline around meals / people watching / general downtime is sketchier, but oh wells.
I know that the next panel was “”Censorship in Japanese Anime and Manga: A View from the Frontlines”
The panel started with a bit of a comparison of censorship in the US vs Japan. It delved into stuff I didn’t know, like that Japanese law can be suuuper vague on what qualifies as in need of censorship and sometimes it seems to just come down to what law enforcement thinks is right at the time. I also had no idea that the big comic markets in Japan will actually make people change into their cosplays once they are on-site, simply because there is a risk of offending someone outside the market because it happened before, ages ago.
This panel was also when I began to realize just how many notes I was taking in the Guidebook app. Side note in that I both love and hate this feature - if I wanted to add a new note for a new thing, I had to go into the “Notes” section and create it. Otherwise, any notes I tried to add from say, the relevant entry in the guide itself, would just get added to the original note.
Also, A-Cen rewtweeted my tweet about being excited for this panel. So there’s that too. Really, this is one that I think needs to come back. It was informative, useful, and I liked it. It was in that weird time frame of being around my normal dinner time and where I was wearing down a little from the day, so sometimes my focus was off. That’s the one downside to the more “academic” panels being later in the day, though I imagine that’s when more adults will actually make it to them.
From there, we raced off to the video game area to kill time and Oh. My. God. I didn’t think Anime Central could improve on that room over last years, but they totally did! I really, really hope that they use that area again this year - last year’s was nice, but I am kinda glad that a prom had it booked this year. My only complaint was how the noise wasn’t easily contained but otherwise...I loved how much room there was, since it made divisions between the areas clearer. As I have done before - and maybe this should become a new goal? - I dabbled in a game or two that I didn’t know. Then I challenged @lechevaliermalfet to Space Invaders and yay! I did better than he did!
The highlight of the day, however, was our grand finale. First, we had to navigate the packed lobby of the Hyatt:
And then we got in line for “Anime Hell” There were several entertaining slides while we waited, including ones featuring a race:
I rooted for Godzilla & Porg, but it was not meant to be.
For those not in the know - and we definitely weren’t! - “Anime Hell” is a mish-mash of Japanese commercials, cartoon clips, and just plain old weirdness. @lechevaliermalfet and I figured that perhaps it would be like “AMV Hell” and it was in that things were balls-to-the-wall weird, goofy, entertaining, etc. But it was more live-action oriented.
My notes from this were mostly comments on my friends’ reactions or my own, and making note of what really made us laugh.I have a note that says I need to check out Chargeman Ken - likely to see if the stuff we were shown was just as bonkers as the subtitles made it appear to be or not.
It’s how a gummy ad became a group meme for us. I think we might be making this a tradition in the future.
There was a “Midnight Madness” follow-up in the same room, but we didn’t stay for that. It was midnight and I think everyone was a little bit sleepy and just worn out. And that was Day 1!

Tanlin’s face fell. In a sad soft voice she said, “Oi knew t’at ye’d ask. Oi’ll give ye t’e facts t’at Oi know. Ye willnae like w’at Oi’m about t’ tell ye. Ot least a few ot’ers will tell parts o’ ‘t as well. Ye’ll ‘ave t’ decide i’ ye’ve been told true.” Dragons forgive m’. Oi’ll tell ‘er nae lie but Oi must save m’ Barad at any cost! She began, carefully editing Barad’s early involvement in the plot.
“T’ere wa’ a plot t’ kill ye. T’was hatched only a few doors down t’e passage in Mister Morgu’s cabin. ‘E wa’ our Purser an’ ‘e ‘ates t’e Longin. T’was ‘e t’at persuaded Barad t’ buy t’e Ord …”
She went on, fearful of the effect that her account was having on Kurin. So much depended on the goodwill of this child. No, not really a child, just young. Before the fleet she was legally an adult because of her skills accomplishments.
There was good reason for her fear. Kurin heard of the apparent cold blooded murder of Chena and possibly Merk with horror and pity. She did not want to face this. She wanted to run and hide, curled around her knotted stomach. Only her need to know the truth kept her in the same cabin with this story.
Tanlin’s control broke down when she got to Silor’s part. She turned in her chair and gestured at the cabin door, her voice catching as she said, “Ot t’e Gat’ering, only a day before ye were poisoned, Oi met Silor just ootside t’is door. ‘E wa’ runnin’ an errand for Mister Morgu. T’was ‘im t’at took t’e kit.”
She hid her face and her voice was muffled and she wept as she said, “A moment earlier! Just a moment earlier an’ Oi’d ‘ave caught ‘im in our cabin! Nae bit o’ t’is wad ‘ave ‘appened i’ Oi’d been a moment earlier!”
Kurin, remembering the ghastly accusations of her own mother as she sank into madness, could well guess the kind of guilt feelings that Tanlin was experiencing. The screaming shade of her mother accusing her of murdering her father still haunted her dreams. She leaned forward, reaching through her own revulsion at the unfolding tale, and laid a comforting hand on Tanlin’s arm. The contact helped Tanlin to get a grip on herself. She looked thankfully at Kurin and went on.
Kurin heard the events at the Gathering and after. Even though she had already heard that the Fauline had been rammed, she got the tale again. This time it included what had happened aboard the Fauline as well as the rest of the events. She heard, for the first time, how the Grandalor had got north undetected by riding in the eye of the Coriolis storm.
Kurin sat, stunned by the tale. Shakily she asked, “That’s it? No dodge? No it was an accident or a prank gone awry? Just, somebody really tried to kill me, not even because they hated me? Just to hurt my ship?”
Tanlin sat slumped in her chair, looking ill. We’ve lost. She’ll nae help us now, she thought. She responded dully, “In Mister Morgu’s case, Aye. In Silor’s case, nae. ‘E ‘ates ye an’ blames all o’ ‘is ill fortune an’ failings on ye. Oi t’ink, from talking wit’ ‘im, t’at ‘e’s mad, at least w’ere ye are concerned.
“Bot’ ‘e an’ Mister Morgu ‘ave been confined since we caught t’em. Nane ‘as spoken t’ t’em since, except for m’sel’. I talked t’ each o’ t’em separately t’ get t’e facts t’at Oi ‘ad t’ tell ye.”
Kurin curled up into a ball in her chair and sat, eyes closed, stomach knotted. Tanlin looked despairingly across at Kurin. She felt both guilt and sorrow that she’d caused such pain in one so young. Tanlin crossed the space between them and knelt where she could gather the hurting Kurin into her arms.
Kurin, startled, looked at her face. Gray eyes in pain met gray eyes in despair. Kurin uncurled enough to wrap an arm about Tanlin as well. For a few minutes they just sat and comforted each other.
Kurin broke the hug first and retreated to her chair, curled about her pain. She looked at Tanlin, and tilted her head regarding the woman shrewdly. Almost dismissively she said, “This is just pain. It was hard to hear, that’s all. I half expected something like that story. I came here because of those Great Law violations. Running off because something’s difficult isn’t my way.
“Is there anything else that I should know about?”
“T’ere’s a matter t’at ye should know from m’,” said Tanlin, eager to change the subject, hope flaring. “T’e counterfeit scrip t’at ‘as plagued yer last few Gat’erings originated on t’is ship. Barad an’ Mister Morgu conspired toget’er on t’at. T’ere are many ‘oo were guilty o’ ‘elping t’ make or pass ‘t.”
“I see,” said Kurin. She wrapped white hair about several fingers as she thought. Concentration helped her to ignore the pain knotting her stomach. She remembered some things that both Alor and Captain Mord had complained of and got an impish grin. “I think that I have an idea about how to deal with that little problem.”
She turned serious again and said grimly, “There’s another problem that might not be so easy, though. The Grandalor has an ominous reputation. There are up to several hundred disappearances, perhaps murders. Somehow they will have to be dealt with.”
This time it was Tanlin who grinned. She raised her left index finger and chuckled around the stone of fear in her heart, “T’ey never ‘appened. Nae even ane.”
“Then what did happen to all those people?” asked Kurin skeptically.
Tanlin snorted in amusement and replied, “Indentures. Barad brokered t’eir indenture sales in t’e Arraken fleet. T’e ‘ule ship kept t’e secret as a groit joke on t’e Naral fleet. T’ere were nae mysterious disappearances. Tis all in t’e Log an’ accounts.”
Angrily, Kurin started to say, “That’s a violation of the First Great Law! The sale of indentures is slavery!”
Tanlin held up a hand to stem the clearly expected outburst from Kurin. Calmly she explained, “Oi know t’e views o’ t’e Naral fleet on t’e matter. As indenture’s practiced in t’e Arrakan fleet tis nae slavery nae does ‘t violate t’e Forst Groit Law. Tis t’e ‘art o’ t’e Arrakan system o’ education. Yer apprenticeship system comes closer t’ slavery t’an our indenture system.”
Kurin leaned forward curiously, listening carefully as Tanlin went on, “Barad discovered ‘ow our education system worked. ‘E made yer castoffs int’ students t’at our fleet paid ‘igh prices for. Wen t’e Princamorn wa’ wrecked, we were on our way t’ meet Barad an’ pick up t’e latest crop o’ indentures.”
“Ye ‘ad t’ know about t’e indenture sales. T’ey’re sure t’ try t’ attack us wit’ t’em. T’e sales were legal in our fleet an’ dune in our territory. T’e T’ird Groit Law’s all t’e defense m’ Barad needs.”
Tanlin regarded Kurin soberly for a few moments. She’s so small. Can she truly save us? Barad trusts ‘er an’ t’ere’s few enow ‘e does. She said quietly, “T’e Grandalor’s books, Logs an’ all else wit’ nut’in’ an’ nane ‘eld bock, is open t’ ye. Ask anyt’ing. I’ we know t’e answer, tis yers. Oi’ve ordered t’at t’ere’s t’ be nut’in’ ‘idden from ye.”
Earnestly, Tanlin requested, “Study t’e case forst, t’en answer ane quest’n. Will ye please put our case before t’e Naral fleet?”
When Kurin did not answer immediately, Tanlin added, a little bitterly, “We’ve little ot’er ‘ope o’ gettin’ justice. Remember, nae even ye quest’ned t’e violations o’ law, bot’ Groit an’ fleet, t’at were dune t’ us. Ye ‘ave t’eir respect an’ ye were t’e victim o’ t’e assault. T’ey’ll listen t’ ye.”
Kurin thought I’ve never refused a challenge before. I wonder what Cat would say about me defending Barad? Still, it’s the biggest responsibility I’ve ever faced. She shuddered a little as she pondered, Lenai and Darkistry are wounded and in sickbay. Macoul is dead. Just to get me here. I can’t let them down.
Tanlin saw Kurin’s small shudder and feared the worst.
Clearly and firmly Kurin said, “I’ve already made up my mind. I don’t need to think it through any further.”
Tanlin’s face fell, sure that she had lost. Ship, love, friends and all would die. Despair provided the darkness that the unsetting arctic sun in the ports could not. Determination settled over her features. Ice like the pack not far north wrapped her heart. She would have to save her folk — — if she could. She knew too well, from Barad’s books, the deadly skills of those directing the hunt to the south of them.
She heard her own voice as if it were through a bulkhead, remote from what she was saying, “Oi promised ye safe conduct. Oi’m sorry t’at we took ye so far for naught. We’ll feed ye an’ let ye rest. Tomorrow we’ll return ye t’ t’e Longin.
“We’ll nae be Scattered an’ executed by Council orders. We’ll try t’ break-oot for t’e Arrakan fleet. T’ey’ll give us a fair trial wen t’ey ‘ear o’ the Groit Law violations. We’ll die fightin’ i’ we cannae escape.
“Oi ‘ope t’at we dinnae have t’ sink any ships doin’ ‘t.”
Appalled, Kurin exclaimed, “No! I meant that I will be your advocate! I do have to study the case but not to make up my mind. You were wronged. I don’t know if I can save your crew but I have to try.”
Tanlin’s hardness turned to joy in an instant. “Oi know t’at ye’ll do yer best an’ t’at yer best’s very good indeed.”

Chapter 14: Pursuit
Kurin awoke with a start. She could feel the unmistakable roll and pitch of a ship underway. She knew at once that it was not the Longin. Overhead she could see triangular braced beams that she knew from her tours of the Dark Dragon. She tried to get up. A hand on her chest, gentle, but irresistibly strong, prevented.
Sula leaned over her, smiling to see her awake. “To answer what you have not yet asked, yes, you are on the Dark Dragon. Yes, we are underway. No, you were not tired out. We almost lost you to Ord poisoning, and had to bring you with us, because we have the only antidote supplies.”
“Ord?” Kurin asked in a small voice, “Those are rare, and they have big white spines. I’d have known, if I got anywhere near one of those.”
Grimly, Sula said, “It was Ord. The spine was pricked into your lunch. As a spine puncture, Ord is sudden death. In food, Ord is a slow death. From skin contact, it is somewhere between the two. As a smoke or mist, it is a choking death, coughing blood. We, on the Dark Dragon and the Soaring Bird, know all too well what the symptoms are.”
“Is the Gathering over? Where is the Longin? Where are my friends?” Kurin’s voice rose as she asked what she most feared to find. She could feel the long waves telling her that they were far from seas that she knew, sailing into waters that she had only read about, and swiftly going further.
“The Gathering, at least part of it, is awaiting our return,” said Sula reassuringly. “We are on a two day search sweep, seeking the Grandalor. If we find her, we are to return her to the Gathering Anchorage, by force, if we must.”
Kurin tried to drag the covers up as if from a chill, and suspecting the answer, asked, “Why are we hunting the Grandalor? They’re not a nice ship, and always try to cheat in small ways, but I’ve never known them to actually break any laws.”
“They have now,” Sula leveled a finger at a bunk across from Kurin’s, where a young sailor was gasping weakly, lips and fingernails blue, blood at the corner of his mouth. “Do you know him? He came to us with news of the plot, and the spine in his shirt pocket. He was able to tell us enough to prove the Grandalor’s guilt, before he was too far gone. Doctor Worran gave him all of the antidote that his system can take. We don’t know if he will live. The Ord got to his lungs.”
“His name is Garfin. He’s from the Grython. I’ve never heard his clan name.” Kurin tried to get up and was gently pushed back into the bunk again.
“I fear that you will be at least one, and maybe two, more days before you are out of that bunk for any reason. I have been Ord poisoned too, in the wars. I know that you are far weaker than you feel. Now, the good Doctor is coming with food, and you must eat it all, even if you don’t like some of it. It is part of the treatment.”
Actually, Kurin liked the food quite well, and needed no encouragement to eat it all. She did need help. Her chopsticks would not stay in her grip. As soon as she tried to grip anything, the sticks would loosen and the food would fall. Sula fed her with a spoon and applauded her appetite.
Sula huddled with Doctor Worran for a few minutes and went out. Ten minutes later, she was back. “Bless the good Doctor, Kurin. She has agreed that, as long as you behave, and stay in bed, that you can have your rest in more interesting circumstances.”
Sula effortlessly scooped up Kurin, blankets and all, and strode out of the sickbay. A ladder, negotiated one-handed, brought them to the deck. Sula carried Kurin forward toward her cabin under the bridge, but bypassed it and carried Kurin up a steep staircase onto the bridge, where a cot was waiting.
The bridge was manned by a pair of lookouts, sitting on the roof, their feet dangling through hatches. A man stood before a device that Kurin had never seen before. It resembled, in some ways, the inside of a big running block for rigging but it was rimmed about with handles shaped like the large ends of marlin spikes. At the center, it was fastened to a large post rising from the deck. Along the back wall of the bridge was a bank of capped tubes that Kurin could not guess the use of. Another man was just rolling a complicated device like two bowls out to a walkway across the front of the bridge.
Kurin, as boat-builder who also made tools, rigging parts and instruments, recognized that the upper bowl was in a gimbal mount. A weight was fastened to the bottom of the upper bowl, so that it hung down into the lower one. Water in the lower bowl would act as a damper allowing the upper bowl to move freely in order to stay level. A circular piece, with a small hole in it, hung over the top of the upper bowl.
From what she knew of navigation, Kurin hazarded, “Is that how you tell latitude?”
Sula smiled broadly. “Yes, it is. Do you know how it works?”
Kurin thought for a moment, her brow wrinkling, “I would guess that a shaft of sunlight goes through that little hole on top and hits the inside of the bowl under it. There are probably circles drawn on the inside to mark latitude. You begin the sight before noon, and the highest point that the spot reaches is both your latitude and your local noon. You can get a true east west line by putting a flat surface in the bowl and marking the line taken by the spot over a time. The spot will always travel west to east. The sun, in the northern hemisphere, is always on the south side of the line, so a bisector gives true north and south as well.”
Sula clapped her hands in delight, “Very well done, Kurin!” She turned to the man at the latitude device and called out, “Morran! Kurin has never seen a latitude device like ours, and has already figured out how to use it!”
He reflexively he began to gesture, paused and replied in words, “That’s why the Dragon adopted her, and not me. I had to study this thing for six Wohans to learn how to use it.”
“What is that big round thing rimmed with marlin spikes?” Kurin asked.
“That is the wheel, with it, we control both rudders at the same time…” she was interrupted by the sailor at the latitude device.
“Noon at my mark, one, two, Noon! 6.250!”
“Noted, is there an elevation?” Sula asked, going to a chart table, and pulling out a much used but well cared for book.
“Getting it now, Captain!” he answered smartly. “Dorac, at 19 and … I make it ¾0!”
Sula plied rulers and dividers, for a bit. “Morran, would you put the log over the side and get me a reading, when you are done?” Morran was putting away the longitude device and the elevation measuring tool. Kurin was watching all with curious eyes. Morran went outside and down to deck, out of sight. Shortly he returned.
“Ten and a half miles per hour, Captain.”
“Thank you, Morran. Return to your duties.” Head bent over the chart, Sula was working out a difficulty.
“You are too far south, aren’t you?” Kurin asked from her cot.
“How did you know that? Have you a guess how far?” asked Sula, putting her tools down and looking at Kurin with extreme interest.
“Between twenty two and twenty five miles,” said Kurin seriously.
“OK, Kurin, give,” Sula said, sitting on the edge of the cot. “You’re right on the mark. Why are we off?”
“I felt us enter the Cliftos Circulator’s south bearing loop this morning, early. According to our navigation manuals, it runs about three and a half miles per hour. That squares with what I am feeling in the waves. The current is pushing you faster than the log will show because it’s pushing the log too.”
Sula turned to the helmsman, “Lay our course true west. Signalman! Course change to starboard, now.”
No hard, high notes of a tocsin drum carried through the ship. In utter silence, the crew swarmed up from whatever they had been doing, to take their places at the lines. As the ship came about, sails were hauled into new positions for the next tack.
Sula told the signalman, “Tighten up the fore sail.” A few moments more of silent communication had lines drawn tighter. “Good,” was followed by another short silence. “Now, slack the mains, just a bit,” another quiet exchange and sailors let off line, a bit at a time until Sula sent the “Good” down to them. “Secure all,” whether delivered by drum or the Dark Dragon’s silent communication was the one call beloved of deck-hands everywhere. It caused a short flurry of activity as lines were secured, coiled and stowed neatly. Sailors went back to whatever they had been doing. The Dark Dragon was now coursing toward the sun.
Kurin couldn’t help asking, “How did you change course without drums? I never heard of any such thing. I know that you used drums at the Gathering, I heard them.”
Sula smiled at Kurin and said, “You know that Winernight is different from your fleet, right? I saw you looking closely at our writing. I am not wearing my hood for your comfort. That is not so hard for me as it is for many of the crew because I am an adopted Souther. Using spoken words when there is light to see and my hands are not full is actually difficult. We use Dayspeech for almost everything, if we can see.”
Sula paused and thought carefully before going on, “We do use drums near other ships if they are friendly or near a fleet anchorage. It lets other people know that we are there. When we hunt another ship or are simply alone, except for the Soaring Bird, we use our Dayspeech system. It does not tell an enemy what we are going to do next.”

Chapter 10a: Grandalor : A New Tack
That same night, aboard the Grandalor, a very different council was underway. Barad gazed at his wife in one chair and Master Selked in the other. He made sure that the door was secure. He sat and fidgeted with a Three Dragons die. It was plain that something was bothering him. The others waited quietly for him to speak.
“Selked,” he began at last, “you know the whole plan to strike at the Longin. Please tell Tanlin exactly what the plan is and how it is to be carried out.”
“Is that wise, Captain?” Selked asked carefully. “She has already played a part in the plan but she may do her part best if she remains ignorant of the whole.”
Barad thought a moment, fidgeting with the die. A Dragon turned up. He replied, “It was Kurti who first brought your objections to my attention. Her untimely death and then the turmoil of finding Tanlin drove things out of my mind for a space.
“Now I want to hear you out and, at the same time, inform Lady Tanlin. Whether it is wise or not, she has asked me what the plan is. Mister Morgu and myself are blinded by our separate desires for revenge. I want her to hear it from you because you are opposed to it but have carried out your part. I want to see clear to the horizon on this matter. I thought that I did until I learned of your opposition. Please speak freely. We are friends of old, and I respect your ideas even when I disagree with them.”
Selked leaned back in his chair and steepled his hands as he organized his thoughts. “You must know first that I trust you. I believe that you can carry out your plan successfully or I would have no part in it.”
He turned to face Tanlin squarely. “In short, Captain Barad has a long standing grudge against the Longin.” When she heard this, Tanlin looked stricken. “It was Mister Morgu who proposed this plan for revenge and Captain Barad agreed to it. The plan is a covert murder. An Ord spine is to be pierced into the food of the victim, causing a slow and untraceable poisoning. Morgu chose the girl Kurin as the target because of her importance to the Longin.”
Tanlin started up in angry horror at the revelation but was quelled by Selked’s upraised hand. “Hear me out, Lady Tanlin. I have more to say. I was asked to speak my opposition. Captain Barad rarely asks for other opinions unless he truly wants them.
He turned and faced Barad squarely before speaking, “Briefly, Captain, I believe that you have chosen the wrong action because you have failed to sort out what your grudges actually are. May I elucidate?”
Barad thought that over for a moment before answering. Frowning in concentration, he replied, “Please go on. This plan seemed good but it has bothered me. Perhaps you can clear up my difficulty.”
Relieved, Selked plunged forward. “Sir, with due respect, you do not hate the Longin and never have. Your grudge has always been with Mord Halyn, the Longin’s captain. One person, not a whole ship.”
Barad thought over his many years of hate and looked at the die in his nervous fingers. A skelt.
Selked leaned forward in his chair and said intently, “Mister Morgu does hate the Longin and not any one person of the ship. The Longin’s crew exposed his first counterfeiting scheme and got him voted off his ship. Now, Morgu has made you the tool of his revenge.
“I suspect that you do understand why Captain Mord tried to expose you when you came to the Captain’s Council to be confirmed, so many Gatherings ago. True, he had little or nothing to gain by doing so. He is no fool but he is rigidly honest and fair. He believed your election false and tried to prove it, simply because he believed it wrong.”
Sympathetically, Selked leaned forward in his chair and laid a hand on Barad’s knee as he went on, “I have no wish to hurt you, my friend, by bringing her up, but before your first wife, Teralat, died, you would have understood his opposition. I thought that the feeling part of you died with her. Now I think that you only covered it up.
“I feared for your sanity when you lost Kurti, too, even if you and she could never have married. She had become your keel. Tanlin’s awakening seems to have been a gift of the Dragons that benefits you both. She gave you a clear course through the reefs of your grief and you have preserved her through her memory loss.
“For you, Morgu’s plan strikes the wrong target for the wrong reasons,” Selked went on. “There’s no profit in it for you or our ship. Even by the old Barad’s standard, that’s wrong. We should gain by what we do.
“If you want to hit at Mord, it is fair to hit at his ship as a whole: cost them fishing waters or get a Council ruling that harms their trade. It is spiteful to strike at them through an innocent like Kurin.”
Barad, deep in thought, turned to Tanlin and asked, “What do you think of what Master Selked has said?”
She took a deep breath thinking, Barad ‘asn’t even told ‘is closest friend t’e trut’ about us. Oi must remain Tanlin, even in private. Oi’ve got to’ conn t’is ship by Arrakan t’ought, and replied, “Oi agree wit’ ‘im for a differ’nt reason. Oi only just ‘eard o’ yer grudge against Ca’tain Mord but ‘e wa’ at our Announcement Feast by yer invitation, a public renunciation o’ yer ‘ate. Kurin wa’ also at our Wedding Feast. I’ she were our enemy, she should ‘ave been barred from ‘t. By Arrakan law and custom, w’ich ye claimed for our wedding, ye ‘ave t’ drop t’is.
“I’ we’re forsworn, we must part an’ can never remarry.” She buried her face in her hands, rich brown hair cascading down about her as she said in a shaking vioce, “I’ ye gae forward, I must find ot'er quarters an’ anot'er ship. Oi donnae won’t t’ lose ye, ‘Eart o’ Mine!” Startled, she realized that both her thoughts and words had framed themselves in Arrakan. Oi wonder i’ Oi’ll ever forget t’at Oi wa’ once anot’er?
Barad looked at her, amazed. “You have both gone to the point immediately. There is high risk and no profit. I have always tried to be direct rather than maliciously spiteful, Selked. You are right.
“As to your point, Tanlin, you are also correct. I did claim Arrakan custom for our marriage. I had forgotten that part of the Arrakan custom of Announcement Feasts. If I don’t put aside my whole rancor toward Captain Mord, who was an invited guest at our feast, then all of our vows at that feast will be forsworn.” He regarded her for some time before going on. Tanlin now clings to Arrakan ways and behavior so firmly that she might actually take this the whole way to its end. He saw a Dragon tide pulling the safe water from under him leaving only hard, jagged coral under his keel. Suddenly, he said decisively, “Tanlin, our love is more important to me than any hate. This plan is done.”
Tanlin leaned back in her chair in relief and asked, “Wa’ picking up t’at crazy boy, Silor, an’ sinkin’ ‘is boat like t’at part o’ t’e plot?”
Barad, glanced at the die in his now calm hand. A Wide Wing. Looking to be at ease with his decision, answered, “It was. I’ve known him for the last five Gatherings and milked him for information about the Longin. Where Kurin is concerned he’s so far onto dry land that the horizon hides any sight of water.”
“W’at’ll we do wit’ ‘im now?” asked Tanlin with genuine concern.
Barad considered carefully before he answered, “Now, I guess, we will have to help him sell his indenture to the Arrakan fleet. Once he’s away from Kurin, he should be OK.”
“Ye’re t’ good, m’ Luve. T’wad be easier an’ safer t’ repair ‘is boat an’ put ‘im bock on ‘is way t’ t’e Pollant fleet.”
“True, but I have known him for Gatherings and he is basically a good sort. He deserves the best chance that I can give him for the help that he has given me.” Barad smiled wryly, “It’s your influence on me, Lady of my Heart.”
“Still,” Selked remarked, “we need to inform Mister Morgu that the plan is off. And we need to make it impossible to carry out. Many have guessed that we meant to do more with that Ord than try to catch Strong Skins.”
“A wise precaution. I will make this a logged event with formal standing orders.” Barad stood and offered Tanlin a hand up. “Tanlin, my dear, will you assemble the officers and Masters in the Mess, please? I will address them this morning at 10:00.”
Tanlin left at once to notify everyone of the meeting. W’at kind o’ mon ‘ave Oi married t’at could ‘arbor t’is monstrous plot? Then she answered herself, T’e kind o’ mon t’at could drop a costly venture t’e instant t’at ‘e believed ‘t t’ be wrong, t’at’s w’at kind o’ mon ‘e is!
She found First Officer Timms on the quarter-deck, off duty, quietly watching sea glitter in the light of the rising Wohan. Long thin clouds glowed around their edges. The pale golden light of the early part of the moon-rise gilded the masts and yards of the sleeping fleet about them. “Tis beautiful, is ‘t nae, Mister Timms?”
“Aye, that it is. I’m in charge of the Day Watches, so I don’t get to see the sight as often as I would like,” he said quietly. “I wager that you came for a different reason, though.”
“Oi’m only newly come t’ t’is ship, an’ ye know m’ so well,” she said wryly.
“No, Ma’am, but I do know Barad and you’ve been closeted with him and Master Selked this last hour.”
“Little escapes yer eye,” she said, leaning comfortably on the rail. “Ye an’ all yer wotch officers are needed in t’e mess for a meeting wit’ t’e Ca’tain. New standing orders. T’will be at 10:00 A.M.”
“Aye, Ma’am. We’ll be there,” he responded smartly.
She went on with her rounds of the shops and crew. She ended at the Captain’s cabin for some much needed rest.
Her dreams were troubled. Two seabirds squabbled over a fish. And she was the fish. Children played at tug-o-war and she was the rope, frayed and near to breaking. She whimpered in her sleep. An arm gripped and held her gently. She calmed and smiled in her slumber. Safe now.

T’was ‘e t’at persuaded Barad t’ buy t’e Ord . . .”
