Artistic Expression: Infusing Creative Elements Into Your Kitchen Renovation
If your kitchen is starting to look a little shabby, you may be considering a full remodel. While neutral paints and finishes are a smart choice for design versatility and resale value, adding personal accents can really bring the space to life.
From ingenious storage solutions to captivating color schemes, here are a few ways you can inject artistic expression into your kitchen renovation.
Showcase Your Personal Style
Incorporating unique design elements in your kitchen helps bring out your personal style. Architectural details like exposed beams, coffered ceilings, and arched doorways add character, a sense of grandeur, and elevate the aesthetic.
Backsplashes provide a natural canvas for creative flair. You can go the timeless route with white subway tile or get a little more experimental with patterned cement tiles, glass mosaic, and other designs.
Stylish containers also help showcase your kitchen decor ideas. Keep liquid soap on the sink in a pretty glass dispenser, and store ingredients or snacks in ceramic jars or wooden crates. Organize pantry contents in wooden dividers, roll-out trays, and other kitchen organizers to create flawless, efficient storage solutions that will never go out of style.
While many homeowners gravitate toward a specific design style, it’s okay to include a few accent pieces that reflect your own taste. Whether it’s a pop of color in an island bar stool, a decorative light fixture, or a painted wall display, these pieces help set the mood for your space and make it feel more personal.
Spark Inspiration
Your kitchen is a creative canvas, and there are endless options for transforming your culinary space into a true masterpiece. The important thing is to take the time to assess your style and aesthetic, then explore a wide range of renovating kitchen ideas to find the perfect fit for your needs.
When it comes to your cabinets, countertops, and backsplash, you’re probably focused on outfitting these elements to make your kitchen feel complete and cohesive. But don’t forget that other areas of your room also deserve attention. Consider reimagining your ceilings with wood paneling, for example, or installing new floors in a bold shade that will catch the eye.
If you’re looking for an out-of-the-box design element, try a floral backsplash or terrazzo tiles that span the whole wall. These eye-catching designs are sure to turn heads, especially if you choose to deploy them in a striking color like black. This bold option is a great choice for homeowners who want to add sophistication to their cooking spaces.
Create a Visually Captivating Space
When designing a kitchen, don’t be afraid to think beyond the functional. Introducing eye-catching design elements can elevate your renovation to an architectural masterpiece.
Incorporate metallic accents to make a bold statement in your kitchen. Copper, brass, and stainless steel are popular choices that pair well with many kitchen color schemes. Using these materials can help bring your kitchen to life while delivering a timeless style that will never go out of fashion.
Draw the eye up to emphasize ceiling details. This technique is particularly effective when used in small kitchens to create an airy feel. It’s also a great way to showcase unique lighting fixtures, like the custom sconces in George Woodrow’s beamed kitchen remodel.
Maximize natural light to make a space more inviting. This is an easy way to transform your kitchen into a beautiful and harmonious room, in line with biophilic principles. This can be done by installing skylights, windows that flank a range hood, or even a window that runs the length of your backsplash.
Incorporate Art in Unexpected Places
There’s a lot of flexibility when it comes to where you choose to hang art. Your kitchen can be more than just a place to cook, store and eat; it can also serve as a beautiful showcase for your artistic style.
Consider bringing art to unexpected spaces, such as the laundry room or cloakroom. Adding some beauty to these service areas can make them feel more like part of the living space, making it more enjoyable to do chores.
One of the more popular theories on art is that it expresses emotion. The idea is that artists are perturbed by inarticulate emotions, and that when they put them into paint, stone or music, they feel relieved to have clarified their thoughts and feelings. However, this theory seems to ignore the fact that the expression is only as meaningful as the content it’s expressing. It’s not the actual act of creating that defines art, but the meaning and content of the finished product.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where should a refrigerator be placed in the kitchen?
To be easily accessible, the refrigerator should be placed right next to your sink. It should also be placed where it will not block traffic or be too close to the stove.
How can I make my white cooking area more interesting?
You can make your white kitchen even more fun. Add coloured tiles to the backsplash and appliances. Wood elements can also be used to warm up a white kitchen. How to Save Money on Kitchen Remodels
If you plan to remodel your kitchen, here are some tips that may help you save money on a kitchen remodel costs.
Do your research.
You must first do your research before you start any kitchen renovation project. This will help you to have a clear vision of the kitchen you wish to remodel. Doing your research will help you discover cost-saving possibilities.
Make a budget.
Once you have a clear picture of your kitchen remodel goals, it is time for you to create a budget. This will help you determine how much money you will spend on the project. It is also important that you stick to your budget to avoid overspending.
Browse for the best deals and discounts.
Always look out for discounts and deals when shopping for appliances and materials. This will save you money on your kitchen remodel.
Hire a reputable contractor.
A good reputation and a proven track record are essential when looking for a contractor for your kitchen remodel. Reputable contractors can deliver quality work at a fair price.
Do the work.
If you’re handy around the house, you might consider doing the job yourself. This will help you save money on kitchen remodel costs and give you a sense of satisfaction knowing that you did the job yourself.
These tips can help you cut down on the cost of your kitchen remodel.
Are you able to DIY a Kitchen Renovation?
If you’re planning a kitchen renovation, you may wonder if you can do it yourself. You can, but here are some things to keep in mind.
First, kitchen renovations can be quite large projects so make sure that you have the energy and time to do it. You should also have basic plumbing and carpentry skills before you begin. It’s also necessary to decide which aspects you want to change in your kitchen, such a storage area, replacement of old appliances or improved lighting.
After you have planned your kitchen remodel, it is time to shop for materials. You will need to make a decision about cabinets, countertops, flooring and appliances.
This is an excellent idea. This will help determine how much space and what layout is best for your kitchen.
You have many options for cabinets. You can choose from ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets or custom cabinets. RTA cabinets come in various styles and colours and are usually less expensive than custom cabinets.
It’s important to ensure safety and security when undertaking large-scale remodeling projects. You may want to look into the local building codes in order to make sure that you are compliant with any renovations.
It is tempting to try to complete a large-scale remodel on your own. But it is better to get professional assistance. A qualified contractor will help you save both money and time. Additionally, working with a professional will ensure that the project runs smoothly.
Statistics
It’s a fantastic thing about most home improvement projects: no matter the job. It often seems like the last 20% is the most difficult. (familyhandyman.com)
Your most significant cost investment for a kitchen remodel will usually be cabinets, typically comprising 25 percent of your budget. (hgtv.com)
This is rather grim, but according to Business Insider, 12 percent of couples consider getting a divorce while renovating their home! (familyhandyman.com)
Experts also recommend setting aside 20 percent of your budget for surprises, including unpleasant demolition discoveries. One is water damage, the electricity that is not up to code, or other budget-spiking gotchas. (hgtv.com)
In large firms, the commission charged by the GC ranges from 15 to 25 percent of the total job cost. (thespruce.com)

The Kitchen Workbook: 8 Elements for a Craftsman Kitchen
How To
How to design the kitchen you’ll be able to enjoy cooking in for years
Kitchen design should balance aesthetics and practicality. Your kitchen should be designed with functionality in mind so that it feels like home.
Here are some suggestions to help you plan the perfect kitchen.
Determine the layout that best suits your needs. L-shaped, U shaped, and galley are the most common kitchen layouts. L-shaped Kitchens are perfect for entertaining, and can easily hold multiple cooks. U-shaped Kitchens are ideal for families who spend a lot in the kitchen. They provide plenty of counter space and storage. Galley kitchens work well in small spaces because they are efficient and simple to use.
Compare the various types of cabinetry available and select quality products. There are many options depending on your budget. High-end cabinets are a great investment. They will last for a longer time, look better, provide greater protection against temperature and humidity changes, as well as being more durable.
Go with a color scheme that makes you happy. No matter what color you like, you can find a color combination that will bring life and color into your kitchen. You can use bright colors or soft pastels. Be sure to match the rest.
Look for a harmonious balance between beauty, function, and style. The kitchen does not have to be perfect. Sometimes you need more to pay attention to functionality than looks. However, this does not mean that you shouldn’t include some decorative elements. Use a mix of glass, chrome, brass, ceramic, stone, wood, etc., to create an interesting focal point.
Create a comfortable environment. Comfort is key when designing your kitchen. You’ll spend a lot of time in this space, so it needs to feel inviting and welcoming. You can relax after a long day by adding seating and lighting fixtures.
Storage is important. You should have ample storage space in your kitchen to store all your cooking tools, utensils as well as dishes, pots and pans. Consider adding cabinets to your kitchen when you are planning a remodel.
Include a pantry. A dedicated pantry will allow you to organize and store food items efficiently. Additionally, a separate place where you can store additional supplies will help to keep clutter away from the rest of your kitchen.
Consider new flooring. The style and feel you choose for your kitchen’s flooring will have a significant impact on how it looks. There are many different materials to choose from. Consider using one flooring material throughout your house, even if you only have a limited space. This will eliminate the need to use transition pieces.
Plan for expansion. One of the biggest mistakes people make when remodeling their kitchens is not including enough room for future growth. You should consider expanding your kitchen by installing sliding doors, adding another walk in closet, or increasing the counter space.
Make sure you leave plenty of light. The best way to enjoy your kitchen is by being able to see what you’re doing. You should ensure that your kitchen is well-lit and has plenty of natural light.
Install energy-efficient appliances. It is important to consider energy efficiency when remodeling your kitchen. This means replacing old appliances with more efficient models.
Budget smart. Do a thorough analysis of your finances before you shop for kitchen appliances or cabinets. It will help you narrow down the options and save money in the end.
You should designate an area for entertaining. Whether you enjoy hosting dinner parties or entertaining friends over drinks, a designated area for dining will allow your guests to socialize and gather.
You can incorporate an island. A kitchen island can be a wonderful addition because it offers extra space for prep and cooking, while also providing a convenient place to keep your drinks, snacks, or other small items.

Interior Design Ideas: New Home Inspiration
Hello, my wonderful friends! How are you today? I am truly happy to start slowing down this week and start my kids’ back-to-school shopping. Doing it for three kids isn’t an easy task, but I will try to have some fun. Now, let’s focus on this new “Interior Design Ideas”.
Tumblr media
Built by Timber Trails Development Company and with interiors by the talented Julie Howard (previously featured here – a must-see post!), here, here, here, here, here & here), this beautiful home is an east coast inspired home located in Western Springs, a suburb about 20 miles outside of Chicago. The home’s exterior commands attention with it’s stately tower topped with X details on the windows. Inside the tower is a three story floating staircase that has a marvelous view of the chandelier above. When you enter the front door, a long hallway lined with mercury glass lanterns leads you to the open concept kitchen and family room where a built-in banquette steals the show because of its leaded glass windows.
I hope you enjoy this tour and make sure to pin your favorite interior design pictures!

$1.5 Million Homes in Indiana, Oregon and Colorado
Indianapolis | $1.5 Million
An 1889 Victorian with seven bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms, on a half-acre lot
This property is in the Old Northside neighborhood, a historic district with many elegant homes, less than two miles northwest of downtown. (Among them is an Italianate Victorian several blocks southwest, where President Benjamin Harrison lived.) The builder came from a lumber family, and this house displays a rich variety of woods, including cherry, mahogany and oak. At one point, it was the clubhouse for a fraternal order. A two-year renovation was completed last year.
Size: 9,097 square feet
Price per square foot: $165
Indoors: The original wood doors inset with gridded glass open to a marble-tiled foyer, followed by a reception room. Turning left, you enter a library with casement windows, a nonworking, exposed-brick fireplace with a wood-slab mantel and industrial-style floor-to-ceiling bookshelves.
Beyond is a series of rooms: a breakfast room with a beamed ceiling and a terra-cotta fireplace, which opens to a kitchen with a large marble-topped island and a custom stainless steel hood and, finally, a family room with a coffered ceiling and French doors opening to a large rear deck with an outdoor kitchen.
Pocket doors off the reception room on the other side of the staircase take you into a dining room with a coffered ceiling, wall paneling and a green-tile fireplace. Past the dining room is a home office with a curved wall and honeycomb floor tile. A nearby area beside the back door is outfitted with coat hooks and a phone-charging station.
On the second floor are four bedrooms with attached bathrooms, including a master with walk-in closets on either side of a decorative fireplace, a changing room and a bathroom with twin marble-topped vanities, a soaking tub and a multispray slate shower. There is also a large laundry room with black-and-white Moroccan-style wall tile that matches the kitchen’s backsplash.
The third floor has two additional bedrooms with hardwood floors and dormers, and a family room or game room.
The original carriage house was expanded several years ago to include a five-car garage at the base. One of the bays is extra high for the storage of a camper or boat. The second floor contains a two-bedroom apartment with a living room that has a gas fireplace, a corner kitchen with stainless steel appliances and an elegant bathroom.
Outdoor space: The house has a fenced front lawn, a curving front porch and a large rear deck with a trellis roof, an outdoor kitchen and a firepit.
Taxes: $40,129 without a homestead exemption (2018)

Portland, Ore. | $1.495 Million
A triplex condominium in a 1921 building, with two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms
A 1997 conversion created this three-level unit in a building on the North Park Blocks in the city’s Pearl District. The Willamette River, Union Station and Powell’s City of Books are within blocks of the condominium. The area is filled with restaurants, high-end doughnut shops, breweries, art galleries, boutiques and theaters.
Size: 2,050 square feet
Price per square foot: $729
Indoors: Elizabeth Raftopoulos, a fashion and interior designer, created the look of this fourth-through-sixth-floor unit. You enter a large loft room with wide-board French white-oak floors and a nook with coat hooks and storage under a metal staircase. Off to the side is a bead-board-paneled half bathroom with a marble-and-brass sink.
The open kitchen has custom dark-navy cabinets and an island with an Italian marble waterfall countertop. Among the appliances are a six-burner Wolf range, a Sub-Zero refrigerator with a glass door and an Electrolux wine cooler. A living area is at the end of the room, with Restoration Hardware glass-globed pendant lights, near a wall of casement windows.
The entire second level is taken up by a suite with a sitting area hung with Restoration Hardware hemispherical brass ceiling lights. Next to it is a bedroom with steel-framed glass walls on two sides, around which curtains can be drawn for privacy. The bedroom opens to a bathroom with a walk-in shower with black-granite tile and a marble-topped vanity.
The top-floor master bedroom has a sliding barn door and a niche for a desk. The en suite Italian marble bathroom includes built-in storage, a double vanity and a walk-in shower with controls and showerheads mounted on opposite walls. An interior steel-framed glass wall next to the Victoria & Albert Barcelona bathtub admits light from the bedroom windows and offers treetop views. This level also has a laundry room with a stacked washer and dryer and a granite-topped cabinet.
Outdoor space: A door from the living room opens to a terrace, and there is access from the master to a roof deck with planters. The unit looks out to the mature trees in the North Park Blocks. Parking for one car is in an attached garage.
Taxes: $13,171, plus a $658 monthly homeowner’s fee

Durango, Colo. | $1.5 Million
A riverfront house built in 2011, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, on a 0.36-acre lot
A previous owner built this house with reclaimed oak barn-wood siding and a metal roof. It has about 150 feet of frontage on the Animas River, popular for kayaking, rafting and fishing. Durango is a city of about 19,000 in southwestern Colorado, at an elevation of 6,500 feet. This home is two and a half miles northeast of the terminus of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which makes a daily 50-mile trip north to Silverton, Colo., in summer. It is just east, across the river, from restaurants, markets and other businesses on Main Avenue. The campus of Fort Lewis College is three miles south.
Size: 2,068 square feet
Price per square foot: $725
Indoors: A cluster of attached, gabled forms creates interior spaces with vaulted ceilings. The double-height great room, for instance, rises 20 feet from its cherry floor to its ridge beam (made of fir from a Boeing airplane hangar in Seattle). Floor-to-ceiling windows offer river views, and a ladder ascends to a windowed loft.
Off the great room is a kitchen with raised-panel cabinetry, marble countertops and a white subway-tile backsplash. An attached dining room has direct outdoor access.
There is a ground-floor master bedroom with picture-rail molding and built-in wardrobes flanking glass doors that open to a river-facing back deck. The master bathroom includes a marble-topped vanity and a walk-in steam shower lined in glass subway tile and furnished with a bench.
Both upstairs bedrooms have vaulted ceilings. One has a cantilevered balcony overlooking the river. The upstairs bathroom has white paneling, a rustic wood vanity and pale-aqua glass tile on the bathtub wall.
Outdoor space: The property has shrubs and flowering trees, stone and gravel paths, and wood and metal-mesh fencing. There is also a wood-fired hot tub.
Taxes: $6,684 (2018)

2019 Chevy Camaro Gets A Shocking Makeover For SEMA [UPDATE]
The beaming green hue joins five other new colors for the 2019 Camaro model year.
Just a few weeks ahead of the 2018 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Chevrolet today announced a new color offering for its refreshed 2019 facelifted Camaro. “Shock” (most closely resembling highlighter yellow), is an unapologetic statement for those looking to make their Camaro stand out from the crowd… and perhaps glow in the dark a bit. This is the sixth addition to 2019 Camaro’s color palette, which also includes Crush, Riverside Blue Metallic, Shadow Grey Metallic, and Satin Steel Grey Metallic.
More to see at SEMA:
Also new to help make your Camaro unique is an expanded range of accessories. The extended portfolio of add-ons now includes a second-generation Chevrolet ground effects appearance package, a black wing spoiler, a fuel door with carbon fiber accents, black Camaro fender badges, an emissions-compliant cold-air intake, Recaro seats, Brembo front brakes, and 1LE suspension components. The cold-air intake is available in all fifty states – yes, that means you too, California.
Chevy’s expanded line of accessories and performance parts gives Camaro buyers the chance to further-customize their car to a more refined level. This plays directly to the SEMA Show’s inherent platform for vehicle customization, where the concept will make its debut. Also on Display at Chevrolet’s SEMA booth will be a Satin Steel Grey Metallic Camaro LT convertible, featuring concept red accents and additional accessories, and a vintage build with Chevy’s new crate engine.
“There’s a fresh look for the 2019 Camaro, which is restyled, reinvigorated and offers more choices and new technologies,” said Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet Car and Crossover Marketing. “It’s the perfect canvas for personalization, and the new Shock color and available accessories demonstrate only some of the possibilities customers have to make the Camaro entirely theirs.”
Take A Look At The Camaro Turbo 1LE:
The new looks comes with the same engine options, though. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder, 3.6-liter V6, and 6.2-liter V8 all carry over. The most-powerful option – the Camaro SS – produces 455 horsepower (339 kilowatts). Customers can choose to install the parts themselves with home delivery, or have their local dealer do everything from start to finish. Ordering is now live via Chevy’s accessories website.

Chevrolet today previewed a new Shock yellow exterior color for the 2019 Camaro. It will be available in early 2019.
The color made its debut on a 2019 Camaro SS show car that will be on display at the SEMA Show Oct. 30-Nov. 2 in Las Vegas, where it will be shown with new accessories and performance parts available from Chevrolet dealers.
The expanded portfolio of accessories and performance parts includes second-generation ground effects, a black wing spoiler, fuel door with exposed carbon-fiber insert, black Camaro fender badges, 50-state-legal cold-air induction kits, RECARO® performance seats, Brembo® six-piston front brake upgrade kit and 1LE suspension components.*
The Chevrolet accessories and performance parts were designed by the same designers and engineers responsible for the Camaro itself, for seamless design and performance integration. The accessories and parts were also validated to the same rigorous standards as the factory-installed components, and their installation does not void the new-vehicle limited warranty.
Customers can shop online for the parts at Chevrolet.com/accessories and choose home or dealer delivery, as well as select dealer installation.
The Camaro SS Shock show vehicle also features concept front-end styling that includes a relocated bowtie emblem and concept hood/fender graphics. It will be joined in the Chevrolet SEMA display by a personalized Camaro LT convertible, shown in new Satin Steel Grey Metallic and featuring concept red accents and additional accessories.
Camaro for 2019
New front-end styling on LS, LT and SS models, including the fascia, grille, dual-element headlamps, hood and new LED signature lighting, puts a new face on the 2019 Camaro. The ZL1 model retains its airflow optimized front-end styling, while the RS package also receives unique headlamps and lighting signature.
At the rear, new LED taillamps are incorporated in a more sculptured execution of Chevrolet’s signature dual-element design. Red lenses are featured on LS and LT, with RS, SS and ZL1 featuring dark-tinted neutral-density (clear) lenses.
Additional highlights include:
An all-new Turbo 1LE model that rounds out Camaro’s performance lineup.
A new 10-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission offered on Camaro SS, featuring launch control and line lock.
New wheel designs.
New Chevrolet infotainment systems, including enhanced available navigation.
New available full-display rearview camera mirror.
New available Forward Collision Alert.
Along with Shock, the 2019 Camaro color palette also includes new Crush, Riverside Blue Metallic, Shadow Grey Metallic and Satin Steel Grey Metallic.
The 2019 Camaro show cars join more than a dozen Chevrolet vehicle concepts at the SEMA Show, along with the latest accessories, performance parts and crate engines for new and vintage Chevrolet vehicles.

In keeping with the historic South of Fifth District, the street-side tower will rise a mere five stories while the ocean-side tower will top out at a mere nine levels. Radically Perfect 1965 Ford F-100 Styled by Fashion Designer Mossimo
It seems like there’s an endearing slang name for every model of Ford pickup ever made. The 1953-1956 F-100s are called “Effies;” 1957-1960s are called “Fridge,” for their Norge refrigerator-like looks; and “Slick” is short for “Slick ’60s,” the F-series model run from 1961-1966.
One close look at the 1965 Ford F-100 featured here and it’s not hard to spot a tremendous amount of fanatical detail went into preparing the truck to go into black paint, the hardest color to get the bodywork right. And frankly, there are not a lot people who have the means to finance such an extreme effort, and even less with the ability to perform the work.
The story of how Mossimo Giannulli found himself in a position to undertake such a build began in California on Newport Beach’s Balboa Island. The year was 1986 and the young entrepreneur fashion designer began by selling neon volleyball shorts and tank tops branded with Mossimo’s distinctive logo on Shoreline Drive from the trunk of his car. By the end of the year Mossimo’s counterculture clothing company had grossed over a million dollars.
Mossimo’s intial styling exercise on a truck was a 1956 Ford F-100 Big-Window custom built to his specifications by Bobco of Lake Elsinore, California. Mossimo sold the Bobco 1956 and it wasn’t much longer before he bought an original-owner 1956 Ford F-100 Big-Window from a friend of his dad. Mossimo had a change of heart about building the second Big-Window and sold it to the then-editor of Custom Classic Trucks … that’d be me.
It was the look of the 1965 F-100 that grabbed Mossimo’s eye, “I’ve always loved the goofy ‘Tonka’ truck esthetic of the F-100 stepside. Rather than go full custom I wanted a perfectly stock truck restored better than the factory would have produced back in the day.” And that’s where Jeff Lilly of Lilly Restorations entered the picture. Jeff’s father, Bill, founded the shop in 1957 and Jeff has continued a family tradition of fanatical detail to the vehicles built and painted at the Helotes, Texas, shop ever since.
Unlike the rust-free, original-owner 1956 Big-Window I bought from Mossimo, the 1965 F-100 that replaced it was a rusted-out hulk sold originally by Harry Holder Ford of Owensboro, Kentucky. After discussing with Jeff Lilly how many hours of labor were poured into repairing heavy rust damage it’s hard to say why a better example of a 1965 Ford wasn’t found. Nevertheless, Lilly Restoration’s Steve Smith and Eric Orishak fabricated new panels and Bob Ives painstakingly TIG-welded the gaps on replacement sheetmetal body parts to satisfy Mossimo’s quest for the perfect truck.
From bare steel the bodywork progressed into primer using BASF DTM epoxy primer. After a thorough wet-on-wet coating of BASF’s direct-to-metal epoxy primer the next product was Evercoat’s Slick Sand polyester primer surfacer. Not one area was overlooked. Nat Ramirez and Bob Ives guidecoated and blocked every square inch of the cab, bed, hood, and fenders until they were absolutely straight.
Satisfied the body parts were ready for paint, Bob Ives sprayed BASF’s equivalent of Ford’s Raven Black for the basecoat and then top-coated it with BASF clear. After the clear cured sufficiently Ramirez proceeded with the tedious process of cutting and buffing the paint. Another 100-150 hours went into it, starting with 600-grit wet and dry paper and ending with 5,000-grit and then finishing with the buff. Take a close look at the photos and you’ll not find one irregularity in the paint; it’s perfect.
The fanaticism didn’t stop with the paint- and bodywork. Inside the cab none of the sheetmetal normally exposed in a 1961-1966 interior was covered with upholstery. Instead the same process used to paint the exterior was applied to the interior. Jan Vankooten incorporated a lumbar support into the bench seat and stitched Olive leather to cover it.
A plain Jane full rubber mat instead of carpet conceals a full dose of Dynamat used to improve the acoustics. Although Mossimo’s 1965 F-100 Flareside is as bare bones as a 1965 Ford could have left the factory in 1965, there were a few creature comforts added to the mix. To fight off the inherit heat that comes with a black exterior, air conditioning from Classic Auto Air was installed, and a high-amp alternator recharging an AGM Vintage battery from Antique Auto Battery supplies juice. An additional reason to beef up the electrics, the custom sound system features an Alpine head unit with a USB/Bluetooth/CD player. For the deep bass notes a low-profile JL subwoofer is concealed under the seat, and for mid- and high-range Dynaudio 6-inch mids and Dynaudio 3-inch tweeters are neatly concealed in the kick panels.
Underhood, Mossimo’s 1965 still has its 240ci six-cylinder engine it rolled off the assembly line with, but thanks to Jack Petlewski tracking down the best engine components blueprinting the six-banger to better than stock specs was possible. The transmission is a standard-equipment, three-speed stick mated to Currie 9-inch packing 3.70 gears.
Mossimo expressed to Classic Trucks his true passion is golf and he leads an active, art and design-fueled lifestyle, so don’t be surprised the next time you see a bunch of white Rolls-Royce cars parked at a Beverly Hills golf course’s parking lot and there’s a black 1965 Ford F-100 with a G/FORE golf bag in the back.

Modern English Country Home Design
How wonderful it is to start this day with you all! We just came back from a short vacation and having a new home by Pike Properties (previously featured here, here & here – make sure to check these house tours!) certainly makes me feel extra happy to be back to work!
Here, the builder share some insights on this new-construction:
“Working with an award winning home design firm, this home was conceptualized and planned out with the utmost in attention to detail. Unique architectural elements abound, with the most prominent being the curved window set with extended roof overhang that looks a bit like a watch tower. Painting that feature a dark color, ensured that it remained noticeable without overtaking the front facade. Extensive cedar was used to add a bit of rustic charm to the home, and warm up the exterior. All cedar is stained in Benjamin Moore Hidden Valley. If you look at each side of the highest gable, you will see two cedar beams flaring out. This was such a small detail, but well worth the cost for a crane and many men to lift and secure them in place at 30 feet in height. Many have asked the guys at Pike what the style of this home is, and neither them nor the architects have a set answer. Pike Properties feels it blends many architectural styles into one unique home. If we had to call it something though, it would be Modern English Country.”
Make sure to pin, save and share this beautiful home.
  Modern English Country Home Design
Main Body Paint Color – Benjamin Moore Olympic Mountains.
Dark Accent Paint- Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal.
Shingles- CertainTeed Landmark Pewter.
Porte-Cochère
“This home measures around 100 feet in depth, and that allowed for the most unique feature, a Porte-Cochère that leads to a motor court. Porte-Cochère’s originated in the late 18th and early 19th century in luxury private mansions and public buildings, to allow horse carriages to drop off passengers in all weather conditions, without passengers being exposed to the elements. Today, many luxury private residences, and still many public buildings, have them.”
Gas Lantern- St. James lighting Montrose Large – Others: here, here & here.
Cedar
The porch is covered in bluestone which is a great material for a clean, simplistic look. The builder was able to vault part of the porch to make it feel grand. V-Groove was chosen for the ceiling trim, as it is stylish and durable. Cedar is stained in Benjamin Moore Hidden Valley.
Porch Chairs: here – similar.
Entryway
The builder incorporate windows on the side wall of this foyer so it wouldn’t feel dark and closed in. The windows overlook the Porte Cochère where guests may very well have parked their car. If you look closely at the ceiling, there is some intricate trim detail that forms four large quadrants with a central diamond.
The paint color through all main living areas of the home, hallways, closets, mudroom, and laundry room is Benjamin Moore Dove Wing with Benjamin Moore White Dove trim.
Pendant- Visual Comfort Plantation 4-light in Antique Burnished Brass Other Foyer Lighting Ideas: here, here, here, here, here & here.
Beautiful Runners: here, here, here, here, here, here, here & here.
Kitchen
The kitchen of this home was a labor of love. At the heart of it is the 10 foot wide by 4 foot deep White Oak island with plentiful room for 4 people to sit comfortably.
A cabinet front Thermador fridge can be found at the far right of this picture.
Counterstools: Arteriors – Other Great Counterstools: here, here, here, here, here, here & here.
Kitchen Lighting
The builder chose to hang three pendants over the island. Pendants are Hudson Valley Lighting Latham – similar here.
Kitchen Faucet
This Brizo Litze bridge faucet gives continuity with the black and gold color scheme.
Range
Placing the range in front of a window was a unique and very nice setup, however that meant that there is no way to have a traditional range hood like most people are used to seeing. The solution is a flush mount range hood.
Island Range Hood with Wireless Remote Control: Zephyr Lux.
Range: 48″ Thermador Pro Grand Dual Fuel Range.
Tying the whole kitchen together is the mosaic backslash tile. The tile is visually stunning and brought all the color tones of the space into harmony. The mosaic tile is Soho Studio Empress Helena – Other Luxurious Backsplash Tiles: Here, Here, Here, Here, Here, Here, Here, Here & Here.
Kitchen Sconces: Hudson Valley Lighting Garden City.
Pull-out Utensil Pantry
Working with a custom cabinet maker allowed the builder to add neat features like this utensil drawer next to the range. It offers a perfect spot for cooking utensils and knife storage with material to keep knives sharpened.
New Kitchen Ideas
“Another neat element of the custom cabinets are the fact that tucked away inside their own cubbies are two built in White Oak cutting boards and two built-in White Oak serving trays. When stowed away, the pop of wood again the gray cabinets looks amazing.”
Kitchen Cabinetry

Modern English Country Home Design
Happy new week, my friends! How wonderful it is to start a brand new week with you all! The weather is starting to get quite cold here and the colder it gets out there, the more Christmassy it becomes. We’re supposed to get some snow this week and I am planning on starting my Christmas decor soon. Have you guys started to decorate your home yet?
Isn’t this the best time of the year? I feel extra happy about everything and having a new home by Pike Properties (previously featured here, here & here – make sure to check these house tours!) certainly makes my heart sing!

Kitchen
The kitchen of this home was a labor of love. At the heart of it is the 10 foot wide by 4 foot deep White Oak island with plentiful room for 4 people to sit comfortably.
A cabinet front Thermador fridge can be found at the far right of this picture.

The builder chose gray as the cabinet color, specifically Benjamin Moore OC-52 Gray Owl. They wanted a color that wasn’t too bold and would take away from the other elements of the space. Gray cabinets are in trend right now and for good reason. The cabinetry was custom crafted in Charlotte and is all beaded inset.
