it's a testament to how much I love my friend and how strongly I feel about tumblr as an art-sharing platform that I recommended she come to tumblr to share her art even though her doing so would inevitably lead to her following me on main
#I love you more than I hate the thought of you being privy to my personal blog#that said I do feel pretty safe in the knowledge that she is probably not going to come here lol#she had asked on stream where people ARE with their art and set up a poll-- in which most people responded twitter#which like. she was asking (mostly) other artists so idk but in MY experience artists have been flooding off twitter in droves#rats from a sinking ship#scattering to the various twitter-likes or returning here to the primordial seas#all of which I did also say in chat lol#jill after the poll ended: hang on I have to say 'you were right' to my husband :')#me: bestie I love him but your science teacher husband does not know shit about fuck about the art scene on twitter dot hell#to BE fair my personal metric for 'places to share art' has nothing to do with 'good places to Build An Audience'#and everything to do with formatting and lack of algorithms#tumblr is infamously not... like... a GROWING platform or anything lol. like man I dunno. it's rough out there in general#ANYWAY. bullet dodged I guess lol no irl friends allowed in here that weren't here from the beginning thanks#about me#irl frens

Social media comparison
Alright. I've tried different new/alternative platforms lately in hope to find something I really liked, and there are very promising ones. I didn't try everything, of course, but this is a kind of overview of my journey so far? Or just my thoughts on the matter.
I've tried Pillowfort, Bluesky, Mastodon (didn't last long enough to have much of an opinion, it simply didn't click), Dreamwidth and Cohost (as of today, can't post there yet).
My comparison under the cut:
âş I appreciate that they're algorithm free, whether it's because they truly believe in an Internet rid of the most invasive of them or because it's too expensive to implement on a brand new platform or some other reason. Only the future can tell, but for now it's nice.
âş Pillowfort: beside the post formatting that I find extremely comfortable, my favourite thing is probably communities. I feel like this is the strongest "pro" in favor of Pillowfort because this is where they truly distinguish themselves from other social media.
Communities, in a way, remind me of forums. They're however easier to take in hand since you don't have to deal with as many options and choices. In my opinion, communities on Pillowfort are a bit lacking in functionalities though. I think more tools to easily organize them would help, like a widget or something to link stuff so you can create and animate events within said communities.
(I also feel like Pillowfort would gain from not being dark blue. We have more than enough dark blue websites, and it doesn't go well with the warmth invoked by its name in my opinion, but that's a minor detail and just a matter of taste.)
âş Bluesky: basically Twitter but better. No algorithm, for a start. The curated feeds are nice. They're a bit like communities on Pillowfort since they can be moderated but from a non-mod user, it's even easier to post in them: you just have to use the right keyword for your post to appear there. Well, if the mod left it open to all rather than chose to vet who can or cannot post in it. Lots of flexibility and control over your timeline overall.
I don't like the 300 characters limit, however. Never liked it with Twitter either. It's not really conductive to conversations, and the general design tends to make the website feel rather impersonal. It's really more like parallel talking than community building.
Overall I think it's a good tool to promote your (visual) art or website, etc. but not great for hosting conversations past commenting briefly what others are doing. I mean, you can make threads but it'll never be as good as Pillowfort or Tumblr for this.
âş Dreamwidth: I'll start with saying that Dreamwidth isn't a social media, it's a journaling platform and I haven't used it much yet. Had in plan to post my headcanons about my muses there and stuff like that so I did spend some time trying to figure out how it works.
First, there is a lot of options to let you have complete control over who can see what. Like, a lot.
You can entirely personalize what your journal will look like. It's a bit easier than having your own websiteâsince I reblogged a post about that yesterdayâbecause you don't start from 0, so it might be a good option if you don't feel comfortable jumping into Notepad++ to start coding. You can just change a thing here and there, or nothing at all, or almost everything. It's pretty old school though, so for those completely unfamiliar with early/pre-web 2.0, it might not look very appealing at first. However, I'd say don't let that stop you! If anything, it's a good opportunity to learn a bit of code without pressure.
You can also create communities, which as you might have guessed is very important to me. When creating one, you can set up whether everyone can join, everyone can ask to join but has to be approved by a community admin or to limit the access to those you have personally invited. Like for your own journal, communities are completely customizable, and Dreamwidth allows adult content.
I'm not sure you can top DW communities in terms of functionalitiesâaside from making a forumâbut it's not as intuitive as Pillowfort (though in exchange you get more customization). You're also more limited regarding image hosting (see here). That said, hosting services exist, many are free, and that's without mentioning that you can post on Twitter and the like and use the picture link in your DW posts. I don't think many will only use Dreamwidth anyway.
âş Cohost: I was expecting nothing when I registered earlier today, but this is an overall good surprise: it's Tumblr, but better.
More control of what you see. More user-friendly UI. It's not fucking blue. Adult content allowed. You can change your main blog page and make it private.
The only two downsides I'd mention here would be that you can't customize your blog page appearance and you have to wait for one or two days before being able to post. Although if it means less bots, I'd rather wait.
And this ends my rather non-exhaustive tour of the social media/blogging/journaling platforms. If you catch any mistakes let me know. I didn't dive deep, this was just me sharing my thoughts.
(As far as I know, they all allow adult content and give you tools to not see it if you don't want to.)

hi rae! do you have any articles/resources on like. why tiktok sucks. because i had a conversation with a friend earlier today about this very subject and i want to show her some information (plus youre like the tumblr smart person so i thought you might have something)
tumblr smart person....love that for me lmao
i don't have a ton of like. articles that are specifically like "here is why tiktok is bad" bc most of my anti-tiktok critique is coming from the synthesis of various ideas about capitalism, art, surveillance, identity, media + control. like -- i don't think tiktok is the root of most of these issues, it's more that i think it's a petri dish for the rapid growth of the already-existing virus of capitalism. so this might feel a little disjointed but here is like. a web of various articles/essays/writing that has ideas which connect back to why i dislike tiktok
capitalist realism, by mark fisher - i think this text provides essential background on the ways in which capitalism has become so ingrained; if you don't wanna read the whole book then at least read ch 2, which talks a lot about the role of media + is particularly relevant when thinking about social media platforms like tiktok
social media is not self-expression, by rob horning - also start here for a perfect explanation of the ways in which social media encourages us to police our own identities as if we ourselves are consumer products
the anxiety of influencers, by barrett swanson - this is my rec that deals most specifically with tiktok and is just. such a great synthesis of the way the app is spreading the poison of a consumer economy such that the boundaries between consumer/product are broken down and we are all becoming consumers-as-products
personal style is dead and the algorithm killed it, by charlie squire - a really excellent essay that also gets into the way that consumerism + algorithms are like....eroding our sense of art + identity
cj the x's youtube channel - really fantastic video essays about art + media consumption in the modern age which make me reflect on the ways tiktok promotes engagement with art as a product rather than art. in particular i recommend 7 deadly art sins and the kronk effect
west elm caleb and the feminist panopticon, by rayne fisher-quann - another excellent essay that gets into the ways apps like tiktok can like....create this online surveillance state where we're all being encouraged to police each other
against character vapor, by brandon taylor - an essay that gets into how modern anxiety over embodiment + the sense that everything is now a performance thanks to social media influences our literature/art
keep it in the group chat: fanfiction and influencer culture, from into the fic of it - podcast episode where they discuss a lot of these issues with art + consumer culture specifically in the context of fanfic
objects of despair: mirrors, by meghan o'gieblyn - another article that touches on social media + identity formation
every "chronically online" conversation is the same, by rebecca jennings - discusses an issue that is not unique to tiktok but is exacerbated by tiktok
and if u wanna read some of my own more organized thoughts about tiktok, i have 2 essays on substack. one is you are what you eat: identity as consumption and what went wrong with jegulus, which ignoring all the jegulus stuff just contains like. a synthesis of how i think tiktok/algorithmic social media promotes a fucked-up method of identity-formation. and then i also have why does tiktok hate masculine lesbians? which is less about tiktok itself and more just an example of one issue that has festered on the site thanks to lack of critical thought + discussion -- both of which are literally impeded by the way tiktok is set up.
here is like. TikTok Thesis from my jegulus essay:
right now, in our current historical moment, almost all social media is being slowly (or not-so-slowly) swallowed by the vast and yawning chasm of the Algorithm. thatâs because the Algorithm is good for capitalism. the Algorithm breaks down the boundaries between content and consumer, streamlining the system so that everyone is consuming each other all at once. we, the social media users, are consumers consuming the content of social media. at the same time, social media is consuming the content of our data. that data is then consumed by advertisers, who use it to sell us more content. we are thus increasingly stuck in a never-ending cycle of consumption, held captive by algorithms that soothe our anxieties by offering us tiny, consistent dopamine hits while working to break down our attention spans and our capacities for critical thought so that they can keep us trapped in echo chambers of endless consumptive entertainment.
and then there are of course all the rantings and ravings i post here on my blog lol!
anyway, a lot of what i've collected here is a little more philosophical and focused around identity + consumerism + art, but i'm sure there are also plenty of people out there making additional points about the way tiktok is horrible for privacy, how it's harvesting all our data, and how it's designed to be addictive + keep you scrolling + is in the process deteriorating your attention span. these are all issues that, again, are not unique to tiktok, but are grossly exacerbated by tiktok. especially bc the rapid growth of tiktok as a successful social media during the pandemic has made it like....this epicenter of pop culture such that
a) other social media apps are now trying to copy tiktok's model and become more like it
b) almost all commercial art is now influenced by tiktok to some extent. books, music, etc -- if u want people to invest in something, it needs to go viral on tiktok!
the consumerism of capitalism is the cancer and tiktok is the malignant tumor growing at an unprecedented + life-threatening rate <3
#ask#ranting and raving#book recs#kinda....really only one book in this post but tagging it anyway lol

afterthought (genshin men)
trying something different with this one :> not assigning the mmc to any character, so feel free to imagine whoever you want! let me know what you think of this format :)
word count: 1k
masterlist ⥠inbox
youâre so attracted to him it physically hurts.
there are definitely better things to do with your time, with your energy, and you know it. yet every moment youâre awake and every thought after you fall asleep, your head is filled with nothing but him.
itâs funny, really, how much he consumed your entire being.
you feel so stupid, letting the presence of a man (or a lack thereof) dictate your emotions for the day. leaving your apartment feels even more of an insurmountable task now that you know the chances of you running into him is low, but never zero. after two straight days of practically summoning him out of thin air in places you least expected to see him at, you have made it your lifeâs mission to look your best whenever you go outside, even if it requires sacrificing 40 minutes of sleep to perfect your eyeliner.
sometimes you question your sanity and how close you are to losing your mind completely.
surely itâs not normal for your heart rate to spike every time you see a little green dot indicating his online presence in the messages app, right? or to consciously look for him every time you walk through the campus, to pin his little box during zoom calls, or check his instagram profile so much that the algorithm has started to put his name on the forefront of your list whenever he posts a story? you honestly think you might have an illness. on some days it physically makes you sick, the emotions too strong and overwhelming for your body to take.
as time passes, your infatuation with him slowly turns into resentment. donât get it wrong â youâre still more attracted to him than youâve ever been with any other man, but the utter impossibility of it all is making it extremely frustrating for you. itâs not even just the fact that youâre too scared to ask him out. itâs everything he does, he says, the way he probably knows the effect he has on you and is enjoying it immensely.
men are simple creatures, and you havenât exactly done a fantastic job at hiding your subtle reactions to his every move.
and nothing gets on your nerves more than knowing youâve given him exactly what he wants.
of course, all this resentment can probably just be dismissed as your brain working overtime yet again to put more meaning into the most meaningless scenarios. you wish you could think this hard and critically about all the academic articles youâre supposed to read. men are simple creatures, yes, and he probably doesnât even mean to do any of this to you, all his supposed teasing behaviour a mere reflection of his already inflated ego.
youâre tired. and no matter what you do, you cannot accept anything less than perfect from your grades this semester, if you want a chance at going to grad school at all. which is exactly why youâre landed in this all-too-small gap between a rock and a hard place. youâre sure you wouldâve gotten down on your knees to beg your brain to stop, had it been physically possible to do so. youâve tried everything: packing your schedule to the brim, overworking yourself to the point of near exhaustion, trying to think of things that give you the ick about him, or even downing more drinks than usual, alone and sad in your little box of an apartment.
you want to laugh at yourself. come on, youâre not the main character of a romcom, no laugh track is going to play and no audience is going to sympathize with you. when your professor called the great depression a âself-induced downward spiralâ, you felt like that term is a more accurate depiction of your life than a massive economic crisis.
and itâs funny, because you donât even know what you want out of this endless pining. whereas in past crushes you were always successful in imaging you and him, happy in a relationship and doing all sorts of corny couple shit in your nightly scenario factory before you fall asleep, you canât seem to picture you with him. sure, you wanted to touch him and feel him and probably get railed by him sometimes, all you feel is cringe when you try to picture the same fluffy domestic activities youâre all too familiar with.
you donât even know if you want to date him, really. perhaps it comes from your own place of insecurity, from having never been the object of someone elseâs desires and always an afterthought in othersâ minds. you see the tiktoks of girls crying about being a âlate bloomerâ, and the swarm of comments from people feeling the same or empty words of comfort. something along the lines of âyou just havenât met the right person yet!â or âhonestly good for you men are trash anywayâ.
sure, the statements might have an ounce of truth in them, but donât they know just how much it hurts to never be at the forefront of someoneâs thoughts? for your name to only be uttered in sentences like ââŚoh and thereâs Y/Nâ, only as a sudden reminder that you existed when everyone else has already had their share of fun and entertainment. youâve retreated, hidden yourself from the judgmental eyes of others, a learned response to protect yourself. but now it seems youâve just dug a hole for yourself to crawl into.
maybe thatâs why you canât imagine yourself with him. heâs so cool, so smart, and so goddamn good looking that you know itâs only a matter of time before someone better comes along and he, like everyone before him, will fall for them instead.
but oh, how much you longed to be the one for someone.
even as youâre saying to yourself, âiâm breaking up with himâ, in the mirror like youâve actually been in a relationship with him, you canât help but feel a little empty inside. like having to donate your favourite childhood toy. you frantically open up a blank document and your fingers work fast across the keyboard, trying to capture as many details from your ârelationshipâ as you possibly could before they all fade from your memory. what are you doing this for? you do not know. all you know is that youâve invested so much energy and so many brain cells on him, you canât let everything go down the drain so easily. is it just a pathetic way to console yourself and continue being in denial? probably. but, what else is there for you to do?
it's not like you can just go up to him and ask him out. what a hilarious thought.
because look, as much as youâve imagined better and cheesier scenarios, the fact remains youâre nothing but an afterthought to him.

I really should get back to posting, just really haven't found the groove and what with the recent collapse of social media as we've known it, it has felt more daunting and scary to put myself out there.
Algorithms and people like consistency, to have a regular output of content, to have some sense of pattern so that the content creators don't fade into obscurity and that makes it more difficult for me just from the pressure even because I know that I lack the ability to perform consistently. Executive dysfunction, social anxiety, rejection sensitivity, autism, perfectionism: so much in my life makes it difficult to put myself out there as much as I want.
How should I format my posts? How formulaic and professional should they be? How frequently should I post? In what order? What do I post? I've even written scripts that create formatted images and write posts about my PokĂŠmon for me based on everything I've put in my spreadsheet that I keep updated, all I have to do is actually assemble the posts then post them; but, I find that they often feel too impersonal and as much as people say that my format is charming, I find issue with how PokĂŠmon like Ungudar will end up tiny and those like Rhinerjar end up huge:
But what should I do instead? What's the fix? I don't know!
It's okay that I don't know, I don't need to have everything figured out! But, I have a hard time internalising that no matter how much I say it to myself and others. Algorithms also aren't so forgiving, but maybe that's okay, too. Getting lots of attention can be overwhelming and I just hope to inspire someone with what I do.
Anyways, Arketa's going great. The final dex is within sight, which is absolutely unbelievable to me even though I can see it for myself.
Arketa also has all of its Gym Leaders and other characters are in progress!
Hell, the region also has a basic design and some locations have names! It's honestly crazy.
I'll try to post more because Arketa's pretty dang awesome and I love seeing people getting inspired and excited by it. I can't promise anything, but I'll leave you with this rough animation on an unfinished model of Bustmuss dancing. :3
#fakemon#arketa region#arketa dex#Bustamuss is pretty fabulous#Who knew that two clams could be so uncomfortably sexy?

I don't watch a lot of US tv shows. Not because I think they are "bad", but more because they barely hold any appeal to me.
The last few I tried were like : let's start with a pointless sex scene, because dang, regular american boy loves that! Also, let's not pay anyone to do the light. Better if it's too dark to see anything at all 60% of the time, wow we're so gritty.
That said, I happened to stumble on Night Sky. And the reason I got interested was that for once, our two heroes were old people (and it's sci-fi, which I have always loved). And as the heroes, the tone of the first episode was very much slower, calmer and yet super interesting.
It had zero useless sex scenes the whole way, the plot unraveled at a pretty slow but good rhythm, the acting was good. Lovely.
and then.
and then, the number one reson why I've been mostly staying as far from US shows as humanly possible.
The reason why I absolutely despise 99% of all american TV shows.
They can't ever write a freaking ending, and you never know if a show is going to be "renewed" or not.
I've been watching so much shows from other countries where the show is clearly bought to last a set number of episodes, so there is always an ending. Good, bad, I don't even care, as long as it's there.
Now I'm left with no ending, more questions than answers, and the absolute certainty that this was my last ever foray into "made for the US" series.
What are your thoughts about that format? You obviously watch older movies, so I'm not sure if you are into shows at all. I'm curious.
Pfff, I watch sort of everything anon. And definitely tv series.
I wasn't sure how to answer your questions because there is a lot to unpack and honestly? In order to get an encompassing answer, I'd have to write a thesis. But I'll keep it short.
In terms of American shows not getting an ending and in turn, becoming a frustrating viewing experience, I'd say that it has more to do with current production practices and the industry at large, rather than the shows being American. The US has produced most of the greatest tv since its invention and we have experienced the golden age of television for the first couple of decades of the 21st century.
I'd say that the problem is represented by the streaming services and the run of the mill and cancelled shows are a product of that culture. Binge watching, too many projects getting a green light leading to a lot of trash as well, focusing too much on algorithm and quick social media response lead to abrupt cancellation. And sometimes they do it for tax purposes as well. It's the same in the film industry.
Getting out an entire season to streaming immediately hurts the people behind it. With cable tv, writers had a more long-term job, each season had more episodes, the episode was written specifically to fit in commercials as well. Direct to streaming changed that for the worst, hence the writers strike. There's a lot more to be said on this and you can watch this as well, it will help
youtube
Poor lighting has indeed been another criticism which I can understand. It's because they're shooting on digital and somehow it gives this illusion that it's more "realistic"? It's not, it's just lazy and it's a shame. Lighting in cinematography is an art and there's plenty of examples out there.
Lastly, the "useless sex scenes". I wonder what constitutes as useless for you though? The existence of a sex scene is not just for some "regular american boy". It's part of a lot of people's lives and being depicted in fiction is to be expected. There's nothing wrong with watching it, for everyone. Would it have a point only if it advances the plot? Could it not be another means of characterization? Of setting a mood? A commentary? Perhaps a glimpse into a life? There's plenty of reasons, even if it appears "pointless". It's unfortunate to see this trend nowadays, but at least it creates debates from people on all sides. I'd actually say that the lack of eroticism and the abundance of sexless characters in a lot of mainstream cinema/tv is creating a false, artificial image of a world that gets boring really fast and certainly a fictional Hollywood subpar to everything that came before.

Welcome!
Hello, visitor! My name is Ronni August. I am a screenwriter and filmmaker from Chicago.
Blog-wise, I sometimes reblog nice photos, art, and maybe a quote once in awhile. But, I've started to post weekly guides about screenwriting, so I want to introduce myself!
About Me
My professionally produced work is lacking, but I have a few shorts to show for my efforts. My favorite being The Fear of Finding Something Worse, which is a short I wrote, directed, and shot in 2019. It had a great festival run!
Otherwise, Iâm a intermediately practiced writer. Iâve written a Euphoria spec that was excellently received and Iâve completed a few features and 60-minute show pilots (none of which I have even begun attempting to option). I also have a BFA in Cinema Screenwriting.
Although I am a writer by trade, I've also edited. A lot. I've actually been editing longer than I have been writing, as this year marks a decade since I started (eight years since I began screenwriting). I won best editor for the film It Only Hurts When I Laugh and have won many miscellaneous awards for the above-mentioned TFOFSW.
Hopefully my posts can be of assistance to your writing! My main goal with them is, honestly, to explore my own ideas and force myself to prove that what I believe works (or that it doesnât). I would also like to start a Screenwriting class in the future in horizontal live stream format. Don't quite know about that, yet.
Thanks for reading + welcome to the blog â¤ď¸
[â¤]
P.S. I am dyslexic. Sometimes I spell words wrong. That doesn't make me a bad writer, I promise I spell-check everything I do.
P.P.S. I sometimes Blazeâ˘ď¸ my screenwriting blog posts. I know thatâs probably not popular, but Iâm learning the Tumblr algorithm so bear with me even thought itâs cringe. I havenât been active on here since 2018/2019.

any tips for starting a new writing blog?
hello dear anon!! oh my days itâs been so long since i started mine i cant really remember.
i would say remember that the first post is always nerve-wrecking and itâs ok to be nervous!! and subsequently the lack of notes since people wont know you and your style right off the bat! itâs ok to feel discouraged when you arent getting much attention too, since you are a newly established blog. the algorithm on tumblr sometimes sucks too :/
to me its personal preference but i like to have some semblance of a theme, or rather more of a post to consolidate everything that you post, not just your writings but also your faq, introductions, links, rules, etc. i usually look at a few writing blogs to see how they format things - everyone has their own ways of organising their pinned post and you can always mix and match to how you want to organise yours but it is NOT an invitation to plagiarise directly (yes, even if you change the colours of the theme to avoid suspicion). think of it with your own ideas and whatnot!!
NEVER. NEVER write on tumblr drafts on mobile. PLEASEEEE remember this. bc notifications appear on the bottom of the screen, sometimes the keyboard will go down and your finger might accidentally brush up against it. you will lose your work. itâs very very disheartening. another instance is also getting out of the app to fact check smtg for ur fic for eg and you come back to a previous post of your own from the notif ... and ur work is gone lol. writing on drafts is easier on desktop although i would say still have a safety net on google docs / notes / ur own writing notepad.
in regards to posting, if you are looking to fully be a sfw or nsfw blog then you can ignore this but i try to plan what kind of works i plan to post. if my smut works are doing well i try my hand at posting a fluff. smut works unfortunately will always get more notes imo, but dont get discouraged from writing fluff bc its still very fulfilling but the reality surrounding these genres are very distinct.
dont be afraid to delete asks or feel an obligation to answer every ask. at the end of the day it is ur blog and u choose what to put on it. if u get trolls and spammers just delete them or if u want to entertain them go ahead too.
be prepared to write out of your comfort zone. i know i said itâs ur blog and you choose what to put on it but sometimes i dont want to write the same trope with the same character and some of the requests allow me to improve my writing with characters im not too fond of for eg. i personally am still trying to push myself more, but itâs a good way to grow!
i like to attach a good amount of tags to my writing. the max on this site is 30 tags, i like to do around 15 or below that. to me it just looks less cluttered and neater. ofc w/ masterlists i usually just tag everything but for individual pieces i dont do a lot!
the writing community is to uplift too đ it isnt about who gets the most notes and interactions but rather to celebrate our love for the characters, so much so that we create stories out of thin air. be respectful and kind and dont be afraid to form mutuals! ignoring all the drama and craziness on tumblr sometimes it really is one of the best places to be at the height of your fandom!! enjoy anon!

Hey folks, I know fanfic is fun and free for everyone to read and people do it as a hobby and itâs very imperfect, but someone STILL WROTE IT. They took the time out of their day/night to put words to document and strung them all together into a story that they then decided they wanted to share with others. They chose those words, they chose that plot, they chose the format in which they wanted to share it. Taking the fics of others and feeding it to an AI feels a lot like taking work thatâs not your own and using it for something other than personal enjoyment.
And whatâs more, AI isnât going to finish that fic you wanted with the ending that is necessarily best suited for it, itâs only going to churn out what it calculates to be the most likely ending based off of all the other works it has consumed. You donât know if the author planned a twist that would have taken the story into a different direction that the AI (and human readers, for that matter!) couldnât have anticipated, because it literally lacks its own sentient creativityâyou know, the thing that humans are really fucking good at?
Itâs not creating things with a brain that has perspective and past experiences and different ways of processing through those that translate into something creative, itâs just spitting out the most probable plot based off of everything else it has consumed, which includes a wide gamut of things. If youâre interested in exploring a different plot of something with the same context.............. write it. Explore it yourself. Talk to friends about it and imagine it yourself. Request it via prompt of a willing fic author. Donât steal unfinished fic without explicit author permission and feed it into an algorithm that corporations likely want to ultimately use to get rid of more writers in creative industries and exploit the remaining few even more.
oh I wasnât aware it was feeding the ai. Iâve inserted hundreds of fics into chatgpt for their continuation or for a different plot within the same context just for fun and out of curiosity⌠but Iâve never posted any of themâŚ
Indeed, anything that is given to AI it can use later to draw from. That's why it doesn't matter if you post them or not as it has now access to those writers' texts without their permission.
~Mod L
#how did we end up in the timeline where ai is doing the creative work#and humans are doing the menial labor#(nevermind that i also think there is merit in doing a job oneself and by hand#but you get my point)

Why Vertical Content Makes Sense in Today's World? There is no need for complicated software, no download and installation, and you can use it from your laptop or smartphone.
The Rise of Vertical Video and How It Affects Social Media "Vertical videos are the most important aspect of your content strategy for 2023" or "TikTok, Reels, and other social media platforms have the best organic reach" are two of the many statements that have been made about vertical video.
"The algorithms favor vertical," according to But exactly why are vertical videos taking over social media and the digital marketing industry as a whole?
How Can Vertical Videos of High Quality Help Your Business?
If you're a professional social media marketer, you can use mobile videos to make your customers say "WOW." Instagram reported a revenue estimate of $24 billion. The problem for businesses that aren't already fully adopting the vertical video trend is that they lack effective vertical video content that was made specifically for that purpose.
Repurposing existing landscape or square-sized video content into vertical videos by resizing, cropping, or rotating it to convey the same message is a common practice among brands.
The issue with this, as is normally the issue with taking the force of reusing excessively far, is that the substance that outcomes from this cycle is generally unimportant to the crowd consuming it.
Most of the time, people don't go to Instagram Reels or TikTok to see the same boring mix of "look at me!" content interspersed with educational GIFs and a weekly flash sale. They want to see something different, something with awesome animations that is more fun, funny, touching, educational, or inspirational.
But what if it were simple for you to do everything?

A Direct Correlation Between EHR Systems and Clinical Outcomes
A patientâs Electronic Medical Records (EHR) is a collection of his or her health history stored in electronic format. It includes complete medical information about the person such as test results, diagnoses, scans, previous treatments, doctorâs notes, medication, allergies, history of substance abuse (if any), and so forth. EHR systems are ubiquitous across the healthcare system in the United States.
Medical information stored electronically has obvious advantages. Medical EMR systems enable doctors to know everything they need to know about patients quickly and effectively. The data is stored in such a way that it highlights important aspects of patient health, which is highly useful during emergencies where patients canât communicate. In cases like these (car crashes, gunshots, etc), EMR healthcare software would let the doctors know of existing conditions like diabetes, heart disease, or allergies, and proceed with the treatment accordingly. Treatment without consideration for pre-existing health conditions might lead to adverse reactions.
There are multiple companies that develop and sell electronic medical record systems. Most of the EHR solutions developed by one company are not compatible with those developed by other companies. What it means is that a patientâs medical records stored in one providerâs EHR system might have difficulty being accessed by providers using an EHR software systems from a different company. This lack of interoperability is one of the major obstacles that impede smooth workflows at hospitals. Medical software developers have poured significant resources into bridging the compatibility gap that plagues electronic medical records software from different vendors.
In addition to facilitating quick access to patient records, storage in electronic format enables providers to run healthcare analytics on patient data. Using artificial intelligence or machine learning algorithms, clinicians can assess medical information like weight, blood pressure, heart rate, vitals, genetic predisposition, and family history to know which patients are at higher risk of certain diseases. This is called predictive diagnosis. It is a powerful tool for clinicians to detect early symptoms and begin treatments, which would result in better patient outcomes and reduced medical costs. In simple words, if doctors know sooner they can treat sooner.
Furthermore, EMR / EHR can be used to analyze the medical information of large parts of the population. Doing so would help public health experts to determine which diseases are the most prevalent, identify their causes and formulate policies to deal with them. Better yet, it allows experts to study the spread of diseases better and know what causes them. Such measures help in spreading awareness and educating the public about healthier lifestyles.
During medical crises, like a pandemic, EMR healthcare software enables health experts to study the effects of the disease better and understand how it spreads. Moreover, this insight can be shared across the globe so that governments can initiate measures to contain the spread of infection and save lives.
With increasing digitization across healthcare, EMR platforms are increasingly being integrated with third-party applications for medical billing, telehealth, and mHealth solutions. This would usher in greater access to care and reduce many inequities that have plagued American healthcare for decades. The market for Electronic medical records software is bound to get a whole lot more interesting.   Â

a few âout of styleâ (aka not just slim featureless black rectangles) cell phones from ebay that have design elements I still really love
#motorola flipout my beloved.....#I actually really like physical keyboards - but I find I liked them a lot more when I had long nails#anyway.. i like chunky rounded designs with interesting shapes or colors#and at least SOME physical buttons being present (one of my aunts recently got that new new iphone that doesn't even have a 'home' button#you're just like.. supposed to swipe near the bottom of the screen or something .. how ridiculous honestly like.. what is the point#it makes it LESS intuitive and it's not like it adds anything.. having even a tiny button down there isn't a severe incovenince and doesn't#like drastically modify the design really.. it's just taking away features for the sake of taking them away hjhj)#I know none of these would be good for Watching Netflix on or whatever people do with their phones but THATS a thing as well#I hate everything moving towards mobile - all websites abandoning their desktop versions for over-simplified homogenous#blank white algorithm sorted content zones with super simple buttons and extreme lack of detail/all actual information#hidden away and as simplified as possible for Mobile Browsing#MESSAGING systems all increasingly being more 'text' / chat-like 'press enter to send' type formats instead of suited for#long form paragraph style communication etc. etc.#AND I WOULDNT MIND if they CO-EXISTED like.. SURE have people CHOOSE which version of a wbsite they want to use#or which features they have or don't have or how their messaging is laid out or etc. but give us the CHOICE#it's the lack of control and agency and everything being forced onto us that bothers me - especially details and customization and being abl#e to curate your own experience or decide what things look like or settings and features and etc. being removed#Honestly I like phones as a means for calling people and texting - and then things that are useful while you're out of the house#(being able to pull up a map if you're lost - having a basic internet broser to search things quickly if you need - being able to check#maessges or social media if you need to - etc. etc. ) BUT ultimately I just can't ever see them as a full on suitable form of#entertainment - like spending hours browsing apps and playing mobile games and watching all of my videos on there or etc.#it's such a terrible and annoying layout for me etc. etc.#I would love to just have a funky cool looking chunky bright colored little square cell phone with basic functonality (calls - texts- intern#et access- a few apps that are useful when out of the house/on the go) but then everything else I do solely on a desktop computer#or laptop or something. I miss when cell phones were just like 'something important to have when you're on the go so people can still reach#you (better than a housephone) and you can look up things on the internet if needed and also maybe you have tetris#built in on there and an app that tells you the weather' and not like full on all-in-one staples that many peoples entire daily lives and#complete source of entertainment and leisure revolves around and evrything is an app and everything is a simple little icon and everyhing#is chosen for you AND tetris doesn't even come for free on the thing anymore but a shitty facebook app you can disable but not delete does#ANYWAY gjhjh this will always bother me I try not to even let myself ramble about it I JUST wanted to show some cool Images.. lov these

For context for anyone who's not in the know: Meta/Instagram recently started collecting EVERYONE'S data on EVERYTHING (posts, comments, captions, hashtags, etc. maybe even DMs but idk about that) and scraping it for their AI. In certain parts of the EU you could opt out of this if you could prove that your data has been found in the AI generated images, but if you were a smaller account that couldn't prove this or you lived in the US, Meta said "you have no data privacy rights, sorry not sorry, we'll steal your face, your art, and your identity."
Understandably, a lot of artists replied with "Fuck This, it's been impossible to get visibility here since you introduced Reels and started making the algorithm pay-to-play" and fled in droves to a new app called Cara. It's made by artists for artists, has a strict no-AI policy, and built-in integrations with Glaze, which is a program to protect your work from scrapers. At first sounded too good to be true, but then I reconsidered the sunk-cost-fallacy and decided to give it a shot.
I'm going to document my experience and experimentations and thoughts and hopefully turn this into a coherent blog post for future reference in a couple weeks but here's my initial reactions as someone who is Primarily a Writer and a Self Taught Hobby Artist that dabbles in both traditional and digital medium
oh my god the lack of ai and ads is so nice but the thing that gets me. that really gets me. is that there's NO VERTICAL VIDEO FORMAT. No reels. No stories. Just posts. It's so quiet. I finally have peace. I can think clearly. It's like the fog has lifted.
There's two different layouts for the home page - an algorithm YOU CAN CONTROL which lets you choose percentages of people you follow, posts from the network of mutual's mutuals, and posts selected from the app as a whole. I think it's something like 60/30/10 as the default but you can change those if you want. There's also a toggle to only view people you follow. I love this feature so much. A customizable algorithm is really nice to discover new people when you're brand new to an app and the choice to tune it when you want is so novel and refreshing. (this is something I saw on desktop, so you may have to change it on your computer to see it reflected in the app)
On your page there's also two different view: Portfolio and Timeline. Portfolio is like an Artstation profile of the work that you post, curated to show off your best pieces. Timeline works exactly like a tumblr blog - you can repost (reblog) other people's work, make text posts, share doodles, etc.
Overall the vibe is still very Professional :TM: All the work I'm seeing in my feed is gorgeous, finished/rendered pieces maybe accompanied by progress shots. The big popular names in the Art Industry get all the attention and likes, and everyone else is just kind of... there. I've only had it for a day so I'm still trying to find my mutuals. I'm sure it'll become more casual over time but everyone is still trying to put their best foot first.
Because it seems like a place for professionals to connect - I think there is a place for Writers on this platform. Even if you aren't an artist yourself, I still think it's valuable to have an account just to lurk, collect inspiration and art styles from artists you like, and find people to commission for book covers, illustrations, character art, and more. If you post little doodles of your OCs, that could be fun. I just don't think it's the right place to market your book.
The platform blew up from 40K users to 650K users and the poor dev team is struggling under the workload and financial burden of running the site. They're going to have to monetize it at some point, and with that comes enshittification so I'm not holding my breath it'll stay untainted forever, but I'm hoping that when they do monetize it, it'll be through a subscription-based platform or getting large corporate sponsors to become like a LinkedIn for Artists
So far I have one post up, which is the full cover art for "First Flight of Spring" (one of my Ko-Fi stories). It's the first place that hasn't compressed this monster file which is super nice, so if you want to check that out, I guess you can follow me. And if you're on Cara, drop your information in the comments! I'd love to find other users!
Made a Cara account! Not entirely sure what I'll post yet, I'll probably lurk for a while until I figure out how to promote myself because I'm primarily a writer and the app is very much for artists, but I'm thoroughly enjoying all the beautiful art and the blessed silence that comes with the absence of vertical video.

On Headcanons
But I find "headcanon" posts to be a dreadful part of newer fandom culture that I wish would go away. They're very similar to older fandom formats, but now there's this added sense that they're sacred and static. You drop this giant turd of a post about how X Is Actually My Demographic or Y Likes Turtles phrased like it's canon fact when it abjectly is not, and people are supposed to stand up and clap for your personal fantasy. If it were "Here's the fanon I think is most in-character based on canon and why. What do you think?" I'd like it. This "validate me, but you don't get to have an opinion" is masturbation, and I don't need to be involved in other people's masturbation unless it's hot.
Snipped from a longer post by @olderthannetfic that covers, in addition to headcanons, a discussion of fandom friendship. Lovely post, very much worth reading, but I want to talk about just the headcanons bit of it.
I follow the tumblr tags for my favorite characters. Iâm not sure what algorithm underlies which tagged posts tumblr chooses to insert into my feed, and so I will not make generalizations about the relative prevalence of these types of posts in the wider tag, but a good deal of whatâs shown to me are headcanons. Lists of them, often massive, bullets detailing everything from what someoneâs favorite candy might be to how likely they are to cry after sex to the not-at-all absurd ideas that so-and-so blows off steam from minor annoyances with wanton murder, because theyâre a villain and thatâs what villains do, right?
And god, do I struggle with them. No, the authors of these are not posting them at me, as was the asker in netficâs scenario, but I am coexisting in this same fandom space as all of this. I have asked myself why I disliked them so, as clearly I am the one out-of-pace with this particular corner of current fandom. Itâs harmless fun for the people creating and engaging with that content. I am the stick in the mud. But introspecting about my own feelings on fandom is why I created this damn tumblr, and now that I have the language for it, I must dive in.
Itâs not that headcanons arenât often marked as clearly AU, or otherwise delineated as something besides a meta analysis of the canon text. Scrolling through one of the character tags I follow as I write this post, I see things I would classify as headcanonsâthe aforementioned lists and âincorrect quotesâ-type contentâheaded with explicit language to name the AU or called out as readerfic. There is a sense that these are original ideas. Hell, itâs in the name, headcanons, though Iâd argue that the term has ballooned a bit past the original compounding and become something of its own. So, should this not fall under âdonât like, donât readâ?
I meanâother than the fact that it is, that Iâm not leaving commentary on anyoneâs headcanon postsâ
God, I feel a bit awful typing it out, but itâs back to the idea that âpeople are supposed to stand up and clap for your personal fantasy.â Itâs the âadded sense that theyâre sacred and static.â Itâs the fact that when I dropped into a headcanons post on reddit the other day, not even to talk about headcanons but to make a point cautioning a poster about offensive stereotypes, I had multiple people try to talk me into their headcanon for the sexuality of a character. I am just so very tired of this method of engagement with a text.
Because, fundamentally, I have my own set of opinions on characters or their universes, which inform how I write about them in my own meta and fic. I know mine are fluidâI will choose the interpretation that best fits the story I want to tell, and I acknowledge multiplicity in any meta-writing I do. Fuck, I am open to being talked around to more possibilities because of this! There is always more room in the party. What doesnât work for me is an assertion lacking context, or, worse, an assertion that uses as context some stereotype of the identity/quality being assigned.
In other words, please, please donât headcanon my villains as aroace because you find them unfuckably unattractive and/or you donât think people who do bad things can feel love.
You know what does work to make me reconsider my interpretations of a character and make room for new ones? A meta with that âhereâs why I get this vibe from canonâ analysis. I might not agree, still, but itâll make me think. Or: a fic, even/especially short ones, that engage with an idea as a proof-of-concept. It can be done, there is interesting ground to cover here, perhaps someone (multiple someones) should run with this and generate more of it?
And so much of this headcanon content feels like it could become those things. I will still stridently disagree with your attempts to keep my ugly villain hot into his 50s or older, but there will be much less to make me privately seethe when one or two bullets from that massive list are turned into 500 words of shortfic, which becomes an offering for the community of fans around that character to consider, not a shotgunning of ideas seemingly designed to hit as wide a field of targets as possible, or a crack-y incorrect quote designed for an absurd shock and ease of reblog-ability. Headcanons, as they seem to exist, offer you nothing to engage with unless you plan to just⌠agree with them. You can always agree, leaving a like or reblogging them or adding a comment about how X is so true!, and maybe, in the best circumstances, you can âyes, andâ some idea from these posts.
But what if you disagree? What does the content offer? Well, unlike a meta, thereâs not an implicit invitation to discuss or engage with the underlying ideas that lead to a particular conclusion. And unlike a fic, thereâs really nothing to comment on re: character motivations or whether a depiction was handled well. Sure, I can send a post to a friend and snark on it, but that rarely makes me feel engaged with the text or the characters or the creative space of fanworkâit only gives me a chance to blow off some steam about my discontent with parts of the community. Not unwelcome, but also not something that contributes to my excitement about partaking in this community.
And so Iâll slink off, back to my ânot fun in current fandomâ hole, and go back to being quiet about headcanons and putting what I view as more fulfilling content out into my areas of interest. Iâll still resent it, though, this detritus that blows through my feeds and low-effort-engagements its way to the top of the communityâs consciousness.

re: blank blog thing, i do reblog but on a side blog, but unfortunately likes are linked to my main blog on which i post nothing for personal reasons. i see all those notes going "blank blog = instant block" and it makes me sad because sometimes the case isn't a bot it's just an unfortunate coincidence. i just wish more people would understand those perspectives.
So far the only ones Iâve blocked are the obvious porn bots and the ones with two words and a number format (eg localtree23) with a real womanâs face as the avatar because I got enough of those in a row that Iâm sure those ones were bots. I left everything else because I wasnât sure; I sincerely doubt youâre the only person with a main blog you donât use.
Tumblr just doesnât have a great track record with bots, so lots of people are suspicious of blogs with any lack of change to the default format (ask box, profile pic, banner pic, description, theme). You could consider changing the pic to some free use one (please forgive me for blanking on the appropriate term) found through google or something similarly anonymous if you would like to look more legitimate. The bots follow and like to try to look legitimate and then capitalize on that later by adding links to postsâtheyâre harder for algorithms to pick out I believe when they follow real blogsâso people do have reason to be suspicious, but I respect your decision to keep it entirely unchanged if thatâs whatâs best for you. Ultimately, you need to do what makes you most comfortable. Accepting that some people would block your main blog on sight because thatâs what makes them most comfortable is the unfortunate trade off.
#ladylynse#asks#tbh Iâm not suspicious of the ones that arenât word word number format right now#and the fact that I think some are legit are why I havenât been auto blocking blank blogs#which I guess you know since youâre still here#*waves*#thanks for letting me know

Hi!! I've been following your blog for a while and you're such a jack of all trades and I really respect that. I wonder where you learn the things you learn about? I feel like I lost a little bit of curiosity in university due to the stress to get good grades. Maybe even more specifically how do you go about when learning for fun? Whether you answer this or not thank you for all the stuff you share on your blog, it has really broadened my horizon.
tips for learning and expanding your interests. đĄ
frequent a spot in your favorite room reserved only for deliberate daydreaming. a chair, corner of your bed, wherever you want. put a to-do list somewhere next to it. at the point where you forgot that the list is there, it starts filling with things your want to look up online almost automatically.
install a battery-powered light at your bedside and place said list right â for nighttime â beside your pillow. with a pen you write somewhat legibly with. and it shouldnât leak to keep the sheets clean. go to bed a bit earlier than usual. your brain is still working at high-speed, your inhibition is lowered because itâs night time, and you lay still on your pillow. guess what happens. you keep on switching on the light to quickly note something down that youâre curious about or want to do. also makes you look forward to the next day. youâll also be less forgetful and âaccidentally organizedâ as i call it.
the youtube algorithm takes you places if you feed it well, in the most unsuspecting moments. yes itâll give you things to distract yourself but even those videos have value. and â lead you to many a google rabbit hole that will be worth it.
know that the education system ties learning to your self-worth and sense of survival through grades i.e. either a feeling of shame or victory. that this understanding of knowledge operates inside you when you pursue your hobbies is something to observe. i donât say struggle to get rid of it since itâs already ingrained, just watch when it happens and remind yourself that you want to learn for enjoyment. to reinforce that, drop unfulfilling hobbies religiously.
every interest you develop has a forum with masterposts in it. and people of all stages of knowledge.
stress is not a knowledge-killer, denying yourself of new things is.
your learning type determines everything. i learn visually and have bought books just because the illustrations were nice and learned something along the way.
thereâs a reason why all great thinkers and teachers preferred isolation instead of much social input even if they shared their most brilliant ideas and had peers. socializing is just back and forth or communication of whatâs already there. you operate more from belief systems and psychological needs in conversation, even in uni classes. unless you date socrates, you wonât learn new things since youâre in belief system and give-me-love mode. if youâre alone, you aquire times the interests according to your own pace, format, choice. even original ideas come your way in the most random manner.
write fics. story research makes authors almost omniscient if they do it for long enough. PS: i wrote the most fics while i was busiest at uni. the heightened activity gave a bonus impulse. time is no excuse, only lack of ideas and drive are.Â
weird and particular interests are good interests. most niche topics lead to central topics if youâre preoccupied with it for years.
