Relationships
Brother: Jacob Aurelius Malinda
Growing up, Jacob was Verna’s hero. He is five years older than Verna but nevertheless they spent a great deal of time together as children, Jacob often babysitting his sister. Although he was never as much into Quidditch as Verna, he would spend hours teaching her to fly and even take her to watch matches a few years before his disappearance.
Although otherwise short-tempered and rash, Jacob had endless amounts of patience for Verna. With very absent parents, Jacob all but raised Verna from a young age and Verna trusted him to look after her more than their parents, which is why it was shocking to her when he disappeared without a word.
Father: Mervyn Malinda
The sole heir to the Malinda estate, Mervyn is an important character within the Wizard society. However, what the general public doesn’t know, is that he is, in fact, an illegitimate child with a muggle mother. This has been kept secret by his grandmother, father, and step-mother throughout his whole life. The only other person to know the truth since his birthmother’s passing is Juniper, his wife.
Mervyn works as the Head of The Department of Magical Transportation. He is not a very affectionate father, but he tries his best to support his children. Mervyn used to be a Gryffindor.
Mother: Juniper Malinda, nĂŠe Raeburn
A prominent witch from the pureblood Raeburn family, Juniper married Mervyn Malinda out of love. She is a little eccentric and spends a lot of time working on her potions. For a time, the Malindas had a relatively peaceful life with their two children, up until Jacob went missing. After that, Juniper and Mervyn grew distant and started to argue a lot.
Juniper works as a potioneer and values learning, diligence, and holding onto what you believe. She used to be a Ravenclaw.
Love Interest: Merula Snyde
Verna and Merula start out as rivals but due to having to work together during their search for the cursed vaults, they are forced to spend time together. Both start to develop a crush on the other but are in complete and utter denial about it. Verna is the one to realize her feelings first, and she starts to antagonize Merula just to have tension-filled moments with her, which is a completely normal and rational approach to letting your crush know you like them.
Merula and Verna date in school and a while after it but eventually break up in the turmoils of the war. Depending on the version, they might end up together later on though.
(also, as a sidenote, i headcanon merula as like, really short so this dynamic is so much fun when verna is TALL)
Best Friend: Charlie Weasley
They both like Quidditch and are complete dorks. Worst pair of prefects Gryffindor has ever seen, totally incompetent at their job.
(Is this me projecting my love for Charlie into my OC? Absolutely yes and I have no regrets.)
Rivals: Merula Snyde, Patricia Rakepick
Enemy: Voldemort, R
Dormmates: Rowan Khanna, Skye Parkin, Eloise Montague, and  Yasmin Wakefield (the last two are my ocs just to fill the dorm for my fic but these spots are up for grabs if anyone wants to be dormmates!)
Pets: A black cat called Osborn
Closest Canon Friends: Charlie Weasley, Rowan Khanna, Ben Copper
Closest MC Friends:
Farrow Raeburn @threeon1match
Verna’s cousin from her mother’s side of the family. He is a year younger than Verna and in Slytherin. They are nevertheless close, and Farrow has a huuuge crush on Verna’s cool, dragon-loving friend Charlie.
Background/History
Pre Hogwarts:
Verna had a wealthy childhood in the countryside at the Malinda manor. She had a close friendship with her older brother who taught her to fly her first broom. Verna had a keen interest in learning spells even at a young age, and her parents would often find her using magic before she was allowed to (often with disastrous consequences). The year Verna was meant to start her studies at Hogwarts, her brother went missing and her mother became very distant, while her father acted as if nothing was wrong. Verna became determined to find and rescue her brother.
Hogwarts Years:
If I would get around to publishing my fic maybe you guys would find out!! But the basic skeleton of the storyline follows the game’s events, just modified to suit a different medium and sans all the dumb stuff!!
Order of the Phoenix / 2nd Wizarding War:
Verna works as a substitute teacher in Hogwarts for a year, after which she trains to become an auror. However, she doesn’t like the way things are run at the Ministry, so she quits and moves home to the Manor for a while, trying to figure out what to do with her life. Before she can come to any conclusions though, the Second Wizarding War starts to pick up speed and the secrets her family has kept all these years transform from dangerous to fatal. Verna is recruited into the Order of the Phoenix by her old friend Bill Weasley.
Verna reunites with many of her old friends from school while working in the Order. Her father is killed during the war and her relationship with her mother goes through a lot of turmoil.
Her ultimate fate is not set in stone and in some versions she dies during the war and in others she makes it.
Post-War:
Depends on whether she survives or not. If Verna lives, she will eventually find her path to a teaching position at Hogwarts OR a curse-breaking job with the (much-changed) Ministry.
She also reconciles with her ex Merula, and the two of them get together.
Personality
Positive attributes: caring, brave, selfless, confident, passionate, protective, resourceful. Negative attributes: impatient, impulsive, stubborn, cocky, reckless, competitive, short-tempered.
if you made it this far, wow! congrats! thank you!!!! i love you forever!!!

I lost track of how long this took me from start to finish but I’m very impressed with the final result. I can’t recall the last time I’ve drawn a line-up like this and actually finished it. That aside, Reina is meant to be very tall for her age, like at least a head taller than most kids her age, but here she looks to be of average height...XD
This is my take on the MC Through the Years Challenge (I think that’s what it’s called lol) by @leah-demarco
My contribution to the MC Childhood Challenge is right here! The stuff above can be regarded as a continuation from that.
Ties into the Future MC Challenge here!
(If the letters on my blog are difficult to read on the PC, use CRTL + to zoom in. When I tried increasing the font size on my settings, all it did was make the letters overlap horribly)
1984-1985 (11 years old)
After bonding with Ricardo (Jacob) over the past 3 years, Reina made up her mind to attend Hogwarts just for the sake of being closer to him. Since he never told her or her family about the vaults in order to keep them safe, Reina was completely expecting him to be at Hogwarts starting off his 6th Year. It wasn’t until after she met Rowan did she learn the truth. Upset and shocked as she was, that gave way to her absolute determination to find him and bring him home.
As Ricardo never mentioned having a sibling to anyone except Dumbledore and Chester, Reina was only ever seen as the friendly foreign transfer student from the Dominican Republic. She hit it off quite well with her fellow classmates, becoming popular in her own right, second to Penny. With dreams of owning her own bakery one day, she decided she would have a mini baking business while at school that became a hit with her classmates.
Much like Penny, Reina proved herself to be skilled enough at Potions to also be on Snape’s good side. She views brewing Potions in the same manner as she does baking, knowing the importance of having the right ingredients and the proper way to mix them. Despite enjoying such a positive atmosphere, it didn’t stop her from having to deal with Merula’s shenanigans.
Since Merula didn’t have the excuse of MC’s relation to their sibling to get away with messing with them, she often faced the consequences for her actions. The other students viewed her actions as quite malicious because as far as they knew, she was attacking the transfer student for no reason.
1985-1986 (12 years old)
With encouragement from Rowan, Reina tries out for the Hufflepuff Quidditch Team and becomes their newest Chaser. She also meets Andre around this time and the two bond over their love of Quidditch and how they were taught by their respective grandparents, Andre with his grandma and Reina with her grandpa.
Rowan effectively took Penny’s place for all the Quidditch stuff, as her own involvement stemmed from her family’s tree farm also making wood for brooms, and she wanted to see them in action. This helped Rowan break out of her shell, especially after hitting it off very well with Murphy.
Activities aside, Reina was still determined to get involved with the vaults for the sake of bringing Ricardo home. After meeting Bill for the first time, Reina unknowingly latched onto him due to seeing him as an honorary big brother figure. Once the Ice Knight had been dealt with and the Ice Curse broken, Reina would be left in shock upon hearing what she thought was Ricardo’s voice for the first time in 2 years. He begged her to not press further for her safety, but she wasn’t having it, promising him she’d rescue him from wherever he was.
1986-1987 (13 years old)
Develops a big time crush on Talbott after meeting him in group study sessions, and goes out of her way to help him when realizing he’s going through something. Merula’s constant spying nearly destroyed the chances of Reina and Talbott becoming friends, but in the end they succeed and the two become quite close.
With the Vault of Fear causing Boggarts to run amok all over the school, Reina knew she’d run into one eventually. What often puzzled her was that she’s never encountered one before, and isn’t exactly sure what her fears are. She got her answer when walking down a hall on the way back from the courtyard. It would take the form of a woman she wasn’t familiar with, but insisted she was Reina’s mother. The sight alone caused Reina to collapse with a high fever.
While she already knew her mother was abusive, the woman died when Reina was a toddler and her memories of the woman were wiped to spare her from the trauma. As the Boggart couldn’t figure out what Reina feared at the moment, it appears to have latched onto her subconscious. While she wasn’t sure why her mother’s image would cause her to have a fever, it gave Reina and her friends all the more incentive to break the curse as soon as possible. In time, of course, they succeeded.
1987-1988 (14 years old)
Reina pays less and less attention to Merula’s nonsense, and goes as far as befriending Ismelda after helping her deal with heartbreak regarding her feelings over Barnaby. Reina then attends the Celestial Ball with both Ismelda and Rowan as a girl group.
Some time after the Celestial Ball, she starts dating Talbott and the two are head over heels for one another. They do keep it private, however, as Reina herself is still very popular second to Penny, and Talbott would rather not be the center of attention.
After meeting up with Torvus, she befriends the Centaur much faster thanks to him not knowing of her relation to Ricardo. She has some familiarity with Centaurs as a herd of predominantly female ones live a short distance outside of her hometown. Progress is made and the Sleepwalking Curse is broken.
1988-1989 (15 years old)
Her 5th year proved to be a major turning point in Reina’s life. With newfound responsibilities, she now had to balance Prefect duties, her side baking business, Quidditch, detention and figuring out how to solve the newest curse. Reina’s emotion-reading abilities allowed her to be aware of Rakepick’s wickedness, and she refused to go anywhere near the woman to the point of avoiding her classes entirely. This didn’t go unnoticed by her friends.
The group found themselves divided over Reina’s choice to avoid the woman. Some of them (including Ben, Rowan, Talbott and Tulip) sided with Reina when she shared her concerns, while the others (Bill, Charlie and Penny) had doubts. Bill felt very appreciative of not only Rakepick teaching them actual important things, but the fact that she’d secure a Curse-Breaking job for him once he graduated. Charlie, of course, sided with his brother, and Penny herself was desperate for whatever help was possible to free Beatrice from the curse.
When questioned if her current levels of stress was affecting her ability to read the emotions of others, Reina couldn’t provide an answer, but stuck by her gut instincts regardless. Things reached a breaking point near the Christmas holidays. Penny (with some manipulation by an opportunistic Merula), took Reina’s refusal to cooperate with Rakepick in the worst possible way and angrily lashed out at her friend. The ensuing argument led to a vicious falling-out between the two. Some weeks later Reina would suffer a stress-induced mental breakdown that left her bedridden for some time.
Prefect duties were given to Rowan with Sprout’s approval, she was excused from detention and couldn’t take part in Quidditch until further notice. Her condition also prevented her from having her Quinceañera, which deeply upset her for quite a while. When Merula failed to get the painting from Peeves, Reina had to do it for her despite her weakened state. She recovers enough that she’s approved to enter the vault with the rest of the group.
After Rakepick revealed her true colors and went as far as trying to kill Reina, the group fights back and forces the woman to flee. She reunites with Ricardo and the two have a heartfelt reunion. He joins the group in heading back to school. While Reina would fall into a coma for a week (even clinically dying for 4 minutes), she would eventually recover. With Ricardo safe and sound, and the Portrait Curse being broken, Reina made it clear she would no longer be involved with the vaults. The injury she sustained from Rakepick would leave Reina in a wheelchair for most of the upcoming summer.
1989-1990 (16 years old)
After the emotional fallout from everything she went through the previous year, Reina fell into a very deep depression. It was so bad that it darkened her hair and left her in a lethargic state. She barely interacted with anyone outside of her family, Rowan and Talbott. She only took 4 classes (Potions, Transfiguration, Charms and Herbology) at the N.E.W.T. level as her future career of running her own bakery didn’t have any required classes to go with it.
She had no energy for her extra-curricular duties, so Rowan officially replaced her as Prefect. Reina had also stepped down from Quidditch for the same reasons, and ceased her baking side business as well. In her downtime she’d often be sleeping due to her near endless exhaustion. She even found a way to switch off her Empathetic abilities and kept them off due to not caring. With Ricardo tackling the final vault, Reina stayed true to her word by not getting involved when the next curse broke out.
She would remain in her slump until one night when she had a nightmare of Rowan getting killed right in front of her by Rakepick. It scared Reina so badly that it took a Calming Draught for her to be able to relax. While it didn’t break her out of her depression right then and there, it proved to be the push she needed to eventually make a recovery and get her inner fire back. What definitely added to it was how prophetic it felt. The same night she had the nightmare was when Ben and Merula went to the Forbidden Forest by themselves and encountered Rakepick, but were saved at the last minute by Ricardo.
Reina and her friends outright believe that despite the teachers’ best efforts to tackle the current curse, they weren’t getting anything done. The group would take matters into their own hands, but Ricardo would act as their guide, using his own experiences to help them out.
1990-1991 (17 years old)
By this point there’s no sure way of knowing how the vaults would be dealt with, but they would be dealt with. Reina by that point would feel a sense of relief that she could finally put the vault stuff behind her and go back to as normal of a life as possible. She’d graduate with the rest of her friends and together take the next step toward the new stage of their lives.
After graduating, Reina would head back to her home country and work under her family to learn how to officially run her own bakery.

*Reuploaded FOR THE THIRD TIME because I realized that this never showed up in any of this fandom’s tags the first two times I posted it :/ Now I am trying this as a text post with images instead of a typical art post because nothing is freaking working and I am so frustrated.
Because read-mores apparently make my post glitchy, I apologize in advance for the length of this post, and hopefully, it doesn’t clog your dashes/the tags too badly.*
Another CatCF/WWatCF sketchdump~
The top drawing is the characters from the 1971 adaptation ten years later (which was an excuse to draw 80′s fashion, haha).
Ten years later doodles (from left to right) Top row: Violet and Veruca Second row: Mike, Charlie, and Augustus
(I think Violet turned out to be the best of these doodles!)
Some headcanons for the ten years later drawings (this would have been the section under the read-more, if it worked :/ ):
I always headcanoned the characters in the ‘71 version to be thirteen, minus Mike, who I saw as eleven. So basically everyone in the drawing is twenty-three except for Mike, who is twenty-one.
Violet: For years after the nightmare that was the factory tour, Violet struggled with major body image issues, especially about her blue skin. (And is homeschooled because of this.) However, eventually, her mindset basically became ‘Wonka thought this was a punishment? Fuck that; I’m going to embrace it’, so she became more confident.
Once this confidence hits during her late teens, she uses her unusual appearance to her advantage (especially when it comes to attracting visitors/potential buyers to her dad’s car dealership).
She doesn’t go to college; instead, she works at her dad’s place, and basically learns how to be a mechanic.
She hasn’t chewed gum since the factory tour.
When Charlie contacts her and the others, she is hesitant to respond back, but ultimately does (to sass him, at the very least). During the group’s future meetups, she’s basically the glue that keeps them together.
Veruca: Unlike Violet, Veruca carries a lot of guilt about what happened during the factory tour, since her father was punished along with her. He fell wrong, and as a result, was paralyzed from the waist down, and is now in a wheelchair. Veruca was lucky; aside from a broken ankle, she did not suffer any worse injuries.
Because of this, Veruca becomes mute (her mouthing off and constantly asking for things is what led to her–pun not intended–downfall, so she decides that it would be for the best if she stops talking altogether.)
Despite the Salts being wealthy, Wonka paid all of their medical bills. Even though it would have made sense for them to take him to trial, they decided not to (Henry did not want anyone to see him in his new state, and Veruca’s anxiety spiked even thinking about the factory).
When Charlie contacts the four ‘rejects’ ten years after the tour, Violet starts to bring Veruca out of her shell. Though it is ultimately Augustus who helps her feel comfortable speaking again, due to his soft-spoken personality.)
Mike: Like the others, Mike was very traumatized by what happened to him during the tour. (Especially since he was younger than the rest of them.)
While Violet embraced her altered state, and Veruca withdrew from the world, Mike became bitter. Very bitter. Because, while sure, Wonka and co. were able to get him back to about normal size [after stretching him waaaay too tall and thin the first time; his mother fainted, then had plenty of choice words for everyone involved when she came to], the process was incredibly painful, and involved basically rubber-fying his bones and muscles temporarily (yeah, he still had no idea why Wonka would even create a candy that did that).
Because of that, he has scars all over his body–the most on his arms, legs, and torso–so he always wears long-sleeved shirts or jackets, and long pants.
He is pissed that his life was ruined at age eleven; sure, he was obnoxious, but he was a KID. Now he’s stuck with chronic pain, not to mention the occasional breakdown because he has no idea if he’s actually HIM, or just a copy that was beamed through Wonka’s television room that managed to keep his soul. (Yeah, he doesn’t like to dwell on that; he prefers to think that that would be impossible.) [A/N: That part comes from the fact that Wonka stated that the chocolate that appeared in the TV screen was a copy of the much larger chocolate bar that was beamed through the air, and not the original bar itself]
When Charlie contacts him, he almost sends a nasty letter back, but something in him pauses, and he ends up sending a civilized response. It wasn’t Charlie’s fault all this happened to him; Charlie was the nice one, and, though he would never admit it to anyone, on the tour, he thought Charlie was cool. Goody-two-shoes, but in the ‘Lovable TV Protagonist’ sort of way.
As the five of them start meeting/corresponding through letters, he lets Charlie past all the walls he put up, and is definitely the closest to him in the group.
Charlie: Happily becomes Wonka’s protege after the tour. He is ecstatic that he not only gets to live and learn to work in this magical place, but he and his family are finally out of poverty!
He goes to school during the day, then learns the tricks of the candy trade in the afternoons and evenings.
However, about ten years after winning the tour, Wonka just…vanishes. And that’s when Charlie finds the videos showcasing what happened to the other four Golden Ticket winners after their mishaps.
Charlie is appalled; looking back, they were all so young. Of course, they were bratty; that’s how kids ARE. (Sure, some of them were worse than others, but they didn’t deserve their fates! Essentially, the four ‘losers’, plus Mr. Salt, were toyed with and tortured, and their parents could not help them.) Mike’s was especially horrible, to him; it was the only tape he couldn’t finish.
This makes Charlie feel a little guilty; he got off easy, even though he also disobeyed the rules.
He is also torn; on the one hand, Wonka was a great mentor, and he was fond of the man–he made a good father-figure, for him. But on the other hand, this was a man who thought the way to get rid of a kid’s bad habits was to torture them.
Before he could think otherwise, Charlie writes letters to the other Golden Ticket winners. He doesn’t expect anything nice back, but is surprised to find that they are all willing to talk to him.
He is relieved; he wants to right the wrongs done to them.
Augustus: The poor guy falls into a deep depression after the tour. Sure, he was thinner, but he had no problem with how he looked before. Not to mention, even the smell of chocolate and other sugary sweets makes him very nauseous. Oh, and there’s the not-so-small fear of drowning that he picked up, as well as severe claustrophobia.
He felt like a part of him was lost, since he could no longer enjoy his favorite foods. Or food in general. He ate to not starve, but that was it.
He was already quiet, but after the tour, he withdrew into himself even more, preferring to spend time with the neighborhood cats rather than people. (Yes, he is definitely a cat person.)
But he still has his kind heart, so when Charlie Bucket sends him a letter, he responds right away (and is the first one to do so).
When they start writing more letters to each other, and eventually meeting, he helps the others through their trauma, while ignoring his own. He thinks he’ll always be stuck this way.
Veruca disagrees.
And in terms of schooling, only Augustus went to college. As for high school, Violet and Mike were homeschooled, Veruca went to an exclusive, posh academy, Charlie stuck with public school, and Augustus went to a private school.
-
Now, if anyone was interested, these are the outfits that inspired the ones I drew (though, obviously, I took artistic liberties with some of them). I wanted to give them each a different style: Violet’s is the outlandish fashion the 80s are famous for, Veruca’s is demure and preppy, Mike’s is pretty unassuming, but with a slight edge, Charlie’s is comfortable/casual, and Augustus’s is comfortable/slightly formal.
Left to right: Violet, Veruca, Mike, Charlie, Augustus
Tumblr media
(And I imagine the back of Mike’s jacket looking like this, aka with a vent, which is why the back of the jacket isn’t visible in the gap of his legs):
Tumblr media
WOW, that got so long (oops…), but those were just my ideas for how these characters would interact and act ten years later. Hopefully someone enjoys this, XD

Ten Years Gone - Chapter 2
Heyyy there :3 This chapter took so long.. real life was kinda in the way of writing this but with the help of @callmethehunter I was able to finish it in more than 3 months XD anyway I hope you like it :D
July 3rd 1965
“Can I sit here?” Madeline asked a middle-aged man who sat on the edge of the seat. He was looking at his watch and fidgeting nervously. He scanned her briefly and said in a strange whispery voice with a hint of a Scottish accent “Yes, sure sweetheart”. She gave him a warm smile and stepped closer to the window. She put her bag on the ground and opened her thick book, not even taking a glance at it. She sighed happily and waited for the train to start moving.
Maddie was looking at the people who were saying goodbye to their loved ones. She found it rather strange how each and every one of these people had their unique story, their own pain and their own happiness. In her head, Maddie started imagining what their stories might be. She loved this little game. Among the many people, she recognized her dad and her little sister in the distance. They waved at her for the last time and walked away. She had already said goodbye to them. Her dad kept asking her to take care over and over until she snapped at him “Yes dad I will take care, I promise!”  It was her first time travelling alone by train. They usually spent a week or two together in Kidderminster at her aunt’s place but her dad had a few important things to finish at work so he decided to follow her in a few days with Linda, her little sister. She was glad that she was going to be with her cousin, Gina, for some time alone without the irritating presence of her younger sister. “ Maddie, can I play with you?” She rolled her eyes as she remembered the many conversations ruined by that sentence.  Her dad became overly protective of her since he and her mother separated. Her mum went to live with her new boyfriend, supposedly, the love of her life and since Maddie couldn’t stand him, she chose to be with her dad. He felt responsible for her so she understood why he was so incessant, it just really annoyed her from a time to time. She always insisted that she’d be taken seriously, even at her young age of 17. I am a strong, independent girl she always repeated to herself.
“Finally, summer!”  She murmured to herself as the train started moving away from the station. She watched everything becoming so small behind her and she smiled as she took a deep breath, Madeline returned to the open book that lay on her lap. As she scanned the page for the place where she had stopped reading, her mind wandered back to when she met that lovely boy at the library.  She tried to remember his fine features, the golden curly hair and hippie style.  She chuckled to herself lightly, making the man beside her look at her suspiciously. She found herself missing the young man just as much as she missed her cousin.  Surprisingly, maybe even more!  She resumed staring out through the stained window at the trees that stood tall against the burning eye of the sun.  In the silence, the light of the sun was whispering in her ear “You have been seen”. She couldn’t hide her insecurities during the day. Usually, she was almost scared that people can see her.. But not on that day, that day she wanted to be seen, acknowledged and admired. That day, she didn’t want to think, she just wanted to enjoy her time. That - of course – was so hard for somebody like Maddie. Her mind kept on taking her on all kinds of trips. Whenever she joined any kind of conversation people would give her a knowing look, the “that’s-what-happens-in-your-head” look. She didn’t mind it though. On the contrary, she loved being a mystery.  She loved being the girl who nobody truly knew.
Three hours passed and the train had finally reached its destination. Maddie was slightly relieved that she got to escape the weird chatty man next to her. Her relief was immediately followed by a sense of guilt. The man was telling her stories about his wife and his newborn son who he didn’t get to see yet because he was working in another city far away. She wasn’t ignoring him. She merely got tired of listening. He grabbed his bag and stood up, shaking her hand with a sincere smile. “I’m sorry, I must’ve tired you. I hope you have a nice vacation” He said with a shaky voice. “Not at all, sir! I hope little Charlie is happy to see you as much as you are” He laughed and walked away, mumbling urgent “excuse me”s as he made his way to the door. Madeline kept her eyes on him as she grabbed her bag and made her way down the aisle, unable to hide her cheerful grin. Soon she was sitting on a lonely bench waiting for her cousin Gina to come to pick her up as she promised on the telephone. As she was waiting, she read from her book, partly because she wanted to make up for the wasted time on the train and also because she liked to look like her head and her entire existence was completely somewhere else. She kept turning her head around every now and then, searching for Gina. Suddenly, as she was flipping the page, Maddie felt the warmth and dampness of Gina’s palms on her eyelids. She closed the book and threw it quickly in her bag. She got up and hugged her cousin closely. “Gina!!!” She shouted like a little girl. “Oh god, I have so much to tell you about!!” “We’ll talk at home. Now let’s get you to the car. My mum can’t wait to see you!!” Gina said with a similar excitement.
Madeline loved this little family, which consisted of her aunt, uncle, and her cousins Gina and baby Jason.  She felt truly welcomed and loved. She knew that this was partially because she didn’t get to see her mother often and her aunt was trying to make up for the loss. Strangely, this didn’t bother her. She was okay with the fact that she was being loved out of pity. She got in the little worn out Mazda the family proudly owned, the odor of cigarettes immediately annoying her. She reached over to the driver seat and gave her aunt a kiss on the cheek. The woman’s teeth were yellow and worn out. Madeline was glad to see her again.  Her aunt had an air of simplicity and ease about her so unlike her own mother, who, ironically, Maddie was so similar to. After a 15 minute ride, they arrived at a small, poorly painted brown house. Madeline and Gina went straight to Gina’s room which was actually in the attic. Her parents had given her a choice between sleeping in the living room or making the attic her room. Gina wanted to draw on the walls and make those “do it yourself decorations to make it her own crazy place but the little 15 year old got lazy and her room ended up with just a few random posters on the walls. Whenever Madeline came to visit, the girls would always have great plans on how to redecorate it, but they always ended up going to parks and eating ice cream. Maddie threw herself on the bed and her long wavy hair was scattered on the sheets, her bangs falling to the side of her forehead, framing her soft features. She looked like a beautiful piece of art with her summer floral dress. Her cousin sat on the bed next to her, grinning and staring as Maddie sat up. They both laughed like little girls and hugged each other.
“Alright, first things first, what’s going on with you and William?” Gina asked with an excitement that made Maddie both proud and slightly annoyed.
“We broke up” she said with an awful simplicity that irritated her cousin. “He was so possessive. He wouldn’t let the small things go”.
William was the popular guy in her school.  He was charming with brown hair and deep green eyes that made all the girls desperate to be with him. Unfortunately for them – and for him -he liked Madeline Clarke, the smart girl who, annoyingly, rarely lost an argument.
Madeline, on the other hand, felt indifferent.  At least she didn’t hate him and she felt special for being envied by all the other girls, so when he asked her out, she had accepted.  Sadly, William was the jealous type, which may have been nice for some girls but it was unbearable for Maddie. She didn’t like to be questioned and could never accept the lack of trust.. Surprisingly though, she wasn’t the one who broke up with him. One evening they were out on a date and he held her hand and told her with a tender voice “I don’t think this is gonna work Maddie, you’re .. we’re just very different people. I’m so sorry”. Maddie didn’t cry or get angry. On the contrary, she respected him and wished him all the best. There were no hard feelings. Gina blinked a few times and asked, raising her eyebrows and patting Maddie on her shoulder “And?.....The good news are..?”
“We had sex!! Maddie exclaimed, “I know that William isn’t the love of my life but he was good!!”
With a half-smile and a raised brow, Gina asked reluctantly “So you gave William, the guy who you didn’t have any connection with, your virginity? Just like that? “
“Honey, but that wasn’t my first time.. I had sex with Bruce last year..”Maddie said in a quiet tone, waiting for her cousin to remember.
“You never told me that!! “ Gina snapped.
“Ohhh….I didn’t?” Maddie took a few seconds to realize what she had done.
The year before, she had a relationship with a guy named Bruce. They were in sweet young love and one night, when it felt right, it just happened. She lost her virginity and she was happy about it. However, she felt like she was too mature – now that she’s not a virgin anymore – to share with her 14-year-old cousin, so she never told her about him. She felt stupid after a few months and decided to forget about it. Unfortunately, she forgot a little too much. “I’m so sorry Gina, you were too young, I just didn’t feel comfortable” Maddie was trying to make excuses. “I thought we trusted each other with everything!!” Gina interrupted.
She was, indeed, too young…
You don’t trust anybody with everything, honey... “I know, I know!! I’m so sorry” After an argument that went on for what seemed like forever, Gina told Maddie that it was okay, but she didn’t really mean it. Although she forgave her cousin she needed some time to actually let it go. Maddie decided to wait until things went back to normal.
Gina was a lovely person…lovely and a little stupid Maddie arrogantly thought to herself before going to bed.
The next morning, the little family had the traditional full British breakfast with their guest. Maddie didn’t like her aunt’s meals as much as she liked her mum’s but she always pretended to love them. Gina loved it when Maddie made the yummy noises, the “mmmm”s and “ooooh”s. Things between Gina and Maddie were still a little awkward but it was getting better. As Maddie’s aunt was gathering the plates to wash them, she asked the two girls gently “Are there any plans for today?” “Oh yeah mum, Maddie’s going to the library to make sure that the cute blondie is still in love with her” Gina said with a grin. Maddie chuckled, rolling her eyes. “No actually, I never talked to him.” laughter stopped. “We decided yesterday that we’ll go to the carnival with some of Gina’s friends and then I’ll pass by the library to check on my boy” “Maddie’s in looooove” her uncle teased as he was getting up from his chair.
“How do you even know he’s gonna be there?” Gina asked. “I just do.. I believe in him” she said mockingly. “I always see him sitting in the same chair in the same spot… every year.. And we always smile at each other.”
“So when are you gonna man up and talk to him?” “I can’t do that! He has to make the first move” Maddie said with a squeaky voice “Who said so?” her aunt mumbled as she washed the dishes. Maddie scratched her head and sighed, trying to avoid Gina who kept staring at her.
Their trip to the carnival was super fun, but Maddie was waiting for the night to come so she could sneak up to the library. She didn’t know if what she felt was fate or merely a passing crush but she couldn’t stand the idea of not seeing him again. She felt the need to know who he was, what were his interests?, What made him cry. Her heart was flooding with curiosity, or maybe it was admiration? She didn’t know but she was ready to find out.
The sun had finally set as the little group was sitting on a bench, having soft drinks. Maddie looked at her watch and decided she couldn’t wait any longer. She got up, made up a silly excuse and went on her way. Behind her, she heard Gina saying “She’s off to see her lover boy in the library” “In the library?!” One guy was particularly surprised.
She wasn’t even annoyed with their comments. In fact, she was laughing along as she walked on her way.  The library was near. Her dress and her hair were waving in the summer breeze. She felt like she owned the world until that cruel doubt crept up to her mind and made her dwell on endless “what if”s.
After a 20 minute walk, she arrived at the library and went upstairs. She went to the aisle where she usually saw him in and pretended to be searching for a book. She glanced to the left, where he usually sat but he wasn’t there.... For a brief moment, she felt a painful disappointment, but that moment was quickly chased by another, making up for it.
She saw him sitting in her usual spot. Her heartbeat sped up and she felt a rush of excitement in her body. She was hesitant and scared but she realized she had nothing to lose. On the other hand, if she didn’t make this move, she could lose the chance to be with a person who might’ve been perfect for her. She couldn’t stand that idea.
Madeline walked towards him hoping that he would look up from the book and see her, saving her the awkwardness of her having to approach him.  But he kept his head in the book, never glancing away.  To get his attention, she put her hand on his book, leaned on the table, and said “Hi there! , you have really nice hair. My name is Maddie..” she regretted each word as it slipped out of her mouth so she decided to laugh it off. “Oh god, that was so bad!” She chuckled nervously, wishing that she had never approached him. Robert looked up and started laughing with her.  Then he stood up, placed his hands on her shoulders and led her to take his place in the chair. Maddie covered her face with her hands as her cheeks reddened with embarrassment.  All the while Robert’s blue eyes twinkled with laughter. He leaned on the table, put his hand over the book, imitating her. “Hi, you have a very lovely smile, my name’s Robert.” he teased as he extended his arm to shake her hand. She looked up at him and chuckled again. She shook his hand and said, “Hi, I’m Maddie, if you didn’t catch that from before”.  He held on to her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze, his blue eyes still twinkling as he said “I’m so happy to see you again, Maddie”. ..

Another CatCF/WWatCF sketchdump~
The top drawing is the characters from the 1971 adaptation ten years later (which was an excuse to draw 80′s fashion, haha), while underneath it are cartoony/chibi-esque portraits of the 2005 characters.
Ten years later doodles (from left to right) Top row: Violet and Veruca Second row: Mike, Charlie, and Augustus
Bonus ten years later Violet (if she wasn’t blue)–A request from @ironbiohazard03:

Some headcanons for the ten years later drawings under the cut:
Despite being wealthy, Wonka paid all of the Salts’ medical bills.
(Yeah, he doesn’t like to dwell on that; he prefers to think that that would be impossible.)
WOW, that got so long, but those were just my ideas for how these characters would interact and act ten years later. Hopefully someone enjoys this, XD
