so it's officially dragon con weekend, and i am somehow less excited for it this year than i was for the virtual event last year. :/

this is the first year since 2012 (and excluding 2020 for obvs reasons) that we aren't going all out with the hotel room, so we'll just be ubering down. this time in 2019, we probably would have been heading over to check into our room, get our badges, grab some lunch, and settle in before the thursday night festivities. this time last year, we were finishing sprucing up our apartment to make the weekend special.

currently, i'm just sitting in my PJs and debating going for a walk and then going back to cyberpunk for the rest of the day. or bingeing more better call saul and drawing. there's, like, no hype.

they are mandating mask and either a proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID test from the past 72 hours, but i'm having a lot of a n x i e t y because i just don't trust people right now. i'm also annoyed that they waited until 3 weeks out from the show to say vaccination/tests would be a requirement, because that isn't enough time for people to actually get effectively vaccinated before the event. that should have been put into place back in july at the latest.

i will say that sfge two weeks ago was good. mask compliance was solid, only a handful of people with their noses hanging out, but it's also a much smaller event. dragoncon's demographic is also very mixed--i remember in 2016 when i was cosplaying classic lara croft, a guy asked me if he could get a picture, which is 100% fine, and then he started to complain that he hadn't played any new tomb raider games because he was broke because of obama. like okay, my dude. bye lmao

a lot of people pissy about the mask/vax/test policy are boohooing that they aren't going, which is GREAT, thank you, stay home. but i have no doubt there will be people doing shady shit, like getting fake vax cards, because they already paid for their ticket and dragoncon decided not to offer refunds per their normal policy. which i think was a mistake.

i'm gonna go down there early tomorrow afternoon and pick up our badges, assess the situation--so far crowds have been a lot lighter than normal--but i might just stick to the virtual stuff this year, too.

Dragoncon

It's that time of year again. Dragoncon officially starts tomorrow, but lucky me got sick! I'll be trying to post pictures of cosplays I see when I can, but I'm a bit socially awkward, so don't expect too many lol.
