💃 ─ dance around the living room to christmas songs / in all their years surely @manusregis
。:*• ─ IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME ! › // prompt.
𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐀 𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐌 𝐆𝐋𝐎𝐖 𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐁𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐄 , the final piece placed on the tree they'd spent nearly all day decorating. You could tell by looking at it , which bits Ignis had placed compared to the decorations Noctis had. There was no rhyme or reason , no coordination. It looked odd at best , and yet the young boy couldn't be any more proud of their achievement. He stepped back to admire it , unable to get the star at the top of the tree just yet -- but that would come later.
Their mugs of hot cocoa not quite forgotten but the marshmallows and cream that had been sat on top looked a little flat. Still , he picked it up and took a large gulp of it -- almost choking on one of the little marshmallow lumps but he just laughed it off. ❝ I'm okay ! ❞ He chimes , knowing how Ignis would likely worry if he thought anything was amiss. They'd been in each other's company now every day for three years. Both of them leaned more about the other every day -- Ignis had become his only , and closest friend.
The music that filled the air was nothing but upbeat Christmas music that Noctis had insisted on while they decorated the tree and the space within the room. Yet the song that would come on next was one of his favourites. A large grin as he took hold of Ignis' hand , tugging him into a more open space. The dance was childish at best , more jumping around and waving Ignis' arms while Noctis held onto his hands. Laughter fell from his lips as he felt happy. ❝ Come on Iggy! Dance! ❞ The tone was full of playfulness , one that undoubtedly wouldn't last forever but for the moment...
All that mattered to Noctis was enjoying the time with Ignis.

LITTLE NIGHTMARES 3
aaaaaaAAAAAA
DANG OKAy
So I had a premonition for Little Nightmares 3. Last night I had a dream that Mono was just growing old in a tower he chose to stay in as a hermit and just retired there. The runaway kid's real name was revealed to be "Gilbert" and he summoned UFOs that performed a wicked cool airshow over the sea, but then the USA government shot them down and captured them for experimentation. The government was also after a bunch of super powered teenagers and children. They all swam away and tried to escape. Six was amongst them. One of the teenagers took a liking to Six and used her powers to change Six's (super long???) hair a bright red. It was then revealed the government figurehead in charge of the capture raid was Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. I should also mention every single person including the kids in my dream looked like they were from the Lorax movie. Like imagine Little Nightmares but all Onceler style. I woke up to several dozen messages of Little Nightmares 3 trailer and well... I'm very relieved it's nothing like my dream.
~~~
Anyway! I had very low, negative expectations for LN3. I didn't think it would ever come out, and if it did, it wouldn't be the same. I am SO glad to be wrong. This developer apparently also worked on Little Nightmares 2, so they had a feel for the story, concepts, atmosphere, and gameplay. Little Nightmares 3 trailer doesn't give us a ton to work with, but I see high inspiration from previously unused concepts. Like the crows and mirrors in the Little Nightmares comics, and the giant baby from Little Nightmares 2 concept art.
The crow boy looks as though he can go through mirrors and technically fly with a black-feathered umbrella he uses to float. The girl has a wrench, and at first, I thought she was wearing an ugly gas mask, but it's apparently an old-fashioned pilot hat. So I touched it up in my drawing to make it look more recognizable... and cute. Already their designs are very intriguing. Can't tell what the full story is about, but they're new characters in a new setting, I'm very excited to see the world get expanded!
It's still a somewhat different style and atmosphere to the previous two games, but this developer really seemed like they paid attention and made it as authentic as they possibly could, and for that I am so grateful, I respect them so much. I am now changed! I've got a hopeful and optimistic mindset for the future of this series.
ESPECIALLY AFTER LEARNING IT'S ACTUALLY GONNA BE CO-OP. HELLO?!
WHO WANTS TO DROP ME OFF A CLIFF?? LETS DO IT
Saw that your requests were open so what about TFP cons with an adorkable teen human reader? A really close friend (the emotional support bundle of joy™) that is really artistic, kind, understanding and just a pure cinnamon roll, what would be the bots reaction to the lil' human? Optimus, Ratchet,Bulkhead, Arcee, BB, and if you do the kids then the kids. If not the other bots, stay safe!
im back!! so sorry for the long ass wait, had so much going on in my life recently (graduating, going back home, etc.) but hopefully i'll be back to posting somewhat regularly! tysm for the continuous support :] love seeing the notifs pop up every day this is one of the first asks in my inbox (and i completely forgot that the prompt said reader was part of the cons... whoops) and i've wanted to get it done for a while now! have so many more to get through but will get them done eventually - this isn't the best but its cute <3 and you can 100% tell who my favs are lmao warnings: none word count: 939 (GN reader)
-----------------
Optimus:
he finds your outlook on things is a nice change of pace compared to the more pessimistic views that some members of the team can have at times
values your compassion greatly, often turning to you as a confidant over the time you’ve gotten to know each other. a mission went wrong and he’s putting all the blame on himself? you’re there to reassure him in a heartbeat, reminding him that he did his best and there’s always another chance; you keep him grounded
has an innate interest in art and writing - he used to be an archivist, after all
so he enjoys watching you indulge in your hobby, your excitement about it reminds him of his younger years of being a clerk at iacon when he would become giddy over a newfound archaic text
he’s very fond of you and makes sure you know it, taking note of the small things you like and getting you whatever little gift he can manage to find - genuinely thinks you’re cute and likes seeing you happy :]
Ratchet:
while it may have taken him a little longer than the others to warm up to you fully, he grew to start looking forward to your company (despite his his best efforts to hide it)
he appreciates your quiet company; you’re much less rambunctious than both the other humans and his own team - you complain a lot less too, probably one of his favorite qualities about you
like optimus, your bubbly attitude gives him a much needed break from the dreary duties that come with being the autobot medic
you often find yourselves working in tandem, with you sitting on the couch working on your newest project while he stands at his terminal typing away. occasionally you’ll walk over with a nervous smile, and with a roll of his optics he’ll lower a servo for you to climb into and lift you up onto the corner of the console, huffing when you chirp a thank you before the both of you quietly return to your tasks (he enjoys it, really)
while he’s not one to vent his frustrations to you, he’ll always be open to listen to you vent about yours. even if he doesn’t respond with much, he’ll offer logical solutions and observations for whatever issue you’re having
Bulkhead:
the big guy loves art, having been exposed to his fair share of it by miko, and is very encouraging when it comes to your projects
he might not get some of the nuances or meanings of the things you make, but he tries - oftentimes making you laugh a bit at the sheer amount he misses. it’s endearing though, and you appreciate the effort
too fidgety to sit and watch you do anything for too long, but he’ll offer to drive you to a vista for some inspiration while he does his usual scouting routes, miko tagging along of course. she’ll probably bring her sketchbook with her and sit next to you and draw, chattering the entire time while blasting some music from her ipod, offering you one of her earbuds
Arcee:
similar to ratchet she takes a while to get used to you, a little cold at first to your attempts at friendliness
she notices how happy you seem to make everyone else and eventually makes a legitimate pass at being friendly despite how awkward it feels
but with how eagerly you accept it she doesn’t feel as bad, sighing in relief as you immediately start filling her in on how much you’ve enjoyed your time with the autobots
she’s not much of a conversationalist (especially when it comes to humans) so your chattiness is almost a relief - not having to keep up fake interest and energy with someone puts her in a more comfortable position; especially since you’re not one to comment on it like others tend to
will sit and watch you work on whatever your newest project is, a comfortable silence shared between the two of you
rambles about random stuff from her past sometimes - you turn out to be one of the few people she trusts enough to mindlessly dump her thoughts to, both good and bad
Bumblebee:
one of the first to get to know you, overly excited about having a fresh face around
super curious when he sees you working on something, a barrage of questions translated from mechanical chirps and whirrs with the help (and annoyance) of ratchet
he’ll actually try and mimic some of your art on the walls of hidden ditches where he and rafael hang out, excitedly bringing you along to show off his latest work and buzzing happily when you praise it
will eventually, with your encouragement, try and make something original - he ends up finding it pretty soothing and an easier way to feel understood; communicating his feelings without words can be unsurprisingly helpful for someone who can’t use any of his own
you’ll spend hours hanging out and working on your stuff - he likes when you help him with his own art, adding your own brushstrokes to the concrete wall
he’ll let you sit up on his shoulder just to watch him make whatever he feels like making, or even just taking you on joyrides in the desert where he doesnt need to worry about anything going wrong
while it’s usually you, him and raf hanging out he does enjoy spending solo time with you - usually in silence or one-sided conversations, but you understand each other well enough without words
will also figure out what your favorite songs are and surprise you with them; he loves when you get all giddy about literally anything
something that stuck with me once, way back in middle school when i was still learning how to write - my teacher said "writing shock and tragedy is easy, it's humor that's the hardest."
i have been up and down the halls of academia. i have the fancy degree and the experience in publishing. i think i paved most of my own road with the little bricks of sorrow i had stored inside of me. i know i did it mostly with works that are blisteringly lonely. i know why we write like that. it's lifesaving.
but yeah, i mean. i also know how much people think that "sad" media is the same thing as "good" media. our human desire to connect is so hard-pressed that we immediately latch onto any broken themes. the bullied kids and the tales of inspiration. people keep saying things like "glass onion" and "everything everywhere" weren't actually good. because, you know, they're. happy. or happy-ish. happy enough. and we only value art if it's grimdark-adjacent.
do you know - people still consistently whine at me that my writing would be so good if i just capitalized things. i used to flinch. i get kind of a weird, vindictive little rush these days - i get to say thank you for the comment! i have chronic pain and this is how i conserve my hands so i can write more during the day :) grammar isn't real anyway! and now they're trapped in the room with me, you know? i get to pull out my map and show them how grammar is not the same thing as good writing.
writers have this thing. we scratch at our insides, constantly, prying our lives apart into splinters. prying the splinters apart into atoms. when we combust something into poetry, we control it. it cannot hurt us if it exists outside of us rather than burning a hole through the bottom of our lungs. it's not a wonder to me that so much of what i make comes out like a death gasp. i spent a long time at the bottom. i keep going back, too. when you're down there for so long, the only thing you can exhale is fumes.
but humor is hard. humor needs timing; which i can't promise in a paragraph. i can kind-of force it through careful spacing, but i have no idea how fast you're reading these things. humor needs a somewhat awareness of your audience, when really - anybody could be looking. humor needs us to understand what the joke is, why it's a joke, and to think - ha! that is funny. in tragedy, everyone understands the metaphor of a kicked puppy. in humor, you need to introduce them to the concept of a dog.
and forget about positivity. forget about anything not made for adults explicitly. every time i see a well-made children's media piece, i feel fucking horrible for the creators. most of the time, people see children's media as being sort of "not worth" applause, even though i'm pretty sure they have to work twice as hard. i have no idea how hard it must be to not be able to have your character just say. "well, fuck." something about a message of peace or friendship or caring - for some reason, that makes the media not for adults. like, okay. i'm pretty sure my father actually, out of all of us, could use a good book on how to control his temper and talk about his feelings.
but whatever. i write a short story about my ocd, and how it's fucking killing me. it gets an award. it gets published. i write a short story about my ocd, and how i'm overcoming it, and how my days are getting lighter and starting to flourish. i keep getting ghosted. no response. it just is lacking... something.
is this it, forever? you can be an artist, okay. but the trade off is that the things you make - if they're happy? if they're joyful? people will say it's stupid and pandering. you bite your nails off. you file your teeth. you hear something inside of you breaking.
the other day in a writing group, someone i'd thought of as a friend said: "you write so much better these days! i love what you make when you'd rather be dead."
Digital Cover: Dallas Liu
As a young actor in the entertainment industry, what inspired you to pursue acting, and how has your journey evolved since your debut?
My inspiration to pursue acting came from my time doing martial arts when I was a kid. Many of the martial artists I knew would pursue a career in stunts after their time in the competition world. A very small number of them would decide to pursue acting though. With my family’s support, I dove into acting without any hesitation because I felt I had nothing to lose as a kid. The biggest question I had for myself was, “Why not?” My journey has always been an uphill battle. After all, the entertainment industry will always be one of extreme difficulty. I will say that since my debut, the most important lesson I’ve learned is to not get upset and be too hard on myself over whatever I cannot control. As long as I’ve prepared myself in the best way possible and given my full effort in it all, I am able to somewhat relax a little bit. My journey has felt smoother since I’ve adopted that mindset.
You've taken on a variety of roles throughout your career. Is there a particular character or project that challenged you the most, and how did it impact your growth as an actor?
I would have to say Prince Zuko has definitely challenged me the most, because it was certainly the furthest I’ve been pushed to in terms of my emotional range on camera. The amount of time spent working on this project was also the longest in my career. I came out of the project an entirely different person. This role has made me a significantly better actor in so many different ways.
Could you provide some insights into the storyline of Netflix series Avatar: The Last Airbender without revealing any spoilers, and what makes this series unique?
As far as plot goes, we are certainly remaining faithful to the original storyline of the animated series, however, we do have some differences in our show that will hopefully give us a separate identity, especially for the people watching who are fans of the animated series. I think what makes this story unique is our storytelling. I feel that viewers will really fall in love with the characters, the plots, and the entire world of Avatar: The Last Airbender because of our wonderful writers.
Could you share any behind-the-scenes anecdotes or memorable experiences from Netflix series Avatar: The Last Airbender or previous project that fans might find intriguing?
On set, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (who plays Uncle Iroh) looked after me the way Uncle Iroh looked after Zuko. He was always there for me no matter what.
In Netflix Avatar: The Last Airbender; what are the differences and/or similarities between you and your character Zuko? Please elaborate.
When it comes to something that Zuko and I are chasing in life, I think we are quite similar. We share the same amount of fiery passion, and in a way, we become quite obsessive of whatever it may be that we are trying to achieve. Zuko will do whatever it takes to get what he wants just like how I dedicate all my time and energy to a project that I’m working on. The most obvious difference between the two of us is that I am clearly the better firebender.
How do you approach character preparation and development, especially when taking on roles that may be vastly different from your own personality?
I dedicate all my time and energy to every role regardless of how different they might be from my own personality because I want to give 100% in all the roles that I take on.
Are there any specific genres or types of roles you aspire to explore in the future that you haven't had the chance to take on yet?
I’m open to anything and everything. Because I’m still at a very early point in my career and life, I want to do it all!
How do you balance the demands of your career with personal life and self-care, especially considering the fast-paced nature of the entertainment industry?
The time spent with my family and friends balances it all out for me. Whether it’s going out to dinner with them, watching movies, or simply hanging out at home, I am always happiest with them.
You are also known to be trained in martial arts. What sparked your interest in martial arts, and how does it complement your career in acting?
I had always enjoyed watching action TV shows and films when I was younger, so my parents had decided to put me in it knowing that it would make me happy. Throughout my career I’ve noticed a few similarities between acting and martial arts. In martial arts, you start off with choosing a specific style that you want to study and apply the techniques that you learn from it. However, the use of those techniques will vary depending on how that person incorporates themselves into it, and how they adapt to each situation, really making it individualized. Similarly, in acting, you will learn various methods and techniques and apply them to the scenes you are given. And within each character, there will always lie part of your true self. When acting out those scenes, actors infuse them with their personal life experiences as well. Just how an experienced martial artist will react differently in each situation.
What advice would you give to aspiring actors looking to establish themselves in the industry based on your own experiences and lessons learned?
Remain strong! Don’t worry about what others are doing or working on. At the end of the day, there is only so much you can control. Therefore, always give it your best effort no matter the character, scene, or project.
How does culture representation and involvement in community inspire you personally and professionally?
Through hope and love. Whether it is in my personal life or my career, I’m constantly motivated to improve myself as a human being.
Who is your inspiration and why?
My parents. They’ve sacrificed everything for me and given me more than I could ever imagine. I have a hard time understanding how they did it, but all I could come up with was love. The way my parents love my brother and I is unconditional and incomprehensible. I aspire to be like them every day.
Name 3 actors that you would like to work with and why?
The actor that I want to work with the most is William Dafoe. I could give a number of reasons explaining why I love him so much, but more than anything I would just like to learn from him and work alongside him. His wide range of work and different characters is what inspires me the most. Whenever I watch him on screen, it never feels like I’m watching William Dafoe play a character, rather it feels like he really is that character. He fully immerses himself into every moment. I find it to be extremely impressive and entertaining.
Can you share any insights or hints about your upcoming projects or roles in 2024 (besides Avatar: The Last Airbender) that your fans can look forward to?
I enjoy acting and I’m open to anything when it comes to roles and projects, so, all I can say is, 2024 is going to be an awesome year! GR8T
How to Finish Your 1st Draft (underrated tips!)
instagram: @ grace_should_write
Hey y’all :) Thought I’d revisit this topic because I have been writing later drafts and revision for the last 2 years—the last time I first-drafted was literally in 2020. I started first-drafting again late last year, and am still doing so this year.
I’m still rediscovering my plotting/plantsing process, and thought that a refresher would help me, too. I hope you find this post somewhat useful (and that these tips aren’t just for delusional people like me)!
∘₊✧────── ☾☼☽ ──────✧₊∘
1. Find your dedication
The dedication is so, SO underrated—many people think of it as just something you slap on after you’re finished the book, but I like to see it as also one more reason why you’re writing it.
Maybe you wrote a book featuring a found family group of kids from slums because you yourself grew up in those conditions, or you know/sympathize with people who did. Making sure that readers facing a similar situation will feel uplifted when they experience your book could be something that motivates you to finish.
For example, my working dedication for my current WIP goes something like this:
To anyone who has yearned for more and failed—all the part-idealist, part-pragmatist, ambitious, “average” kids who will “never amount to anything more,” I’m betting on you. Keep burning those dreams for fuel. Cling onto them whenever you feel like you will become anything but great. Until you stop betting on yourself, it’s not over.
As someone whose often struggled to fulfil my own visions, despite having a grand plan for my own future, I—like anyone else—have encountered lots of obstacles and learned to survive on my own. We’ve all learned resilience.
This dedication reminds me who I’m writing for: myself, and anyone else who identifies with it. I hope that my book can inspire readers on the cusp of giving up. I hope this book can provide readers on their sigma male grindset with a thrilling rush that spurs them on even more.
Whenever I feel unmotivated, this is where I go. And, for the most part, it works!
(Of course, you can treat your dedication as a “work” of its own. Feel free to keep revising it and editing it until you’re happy with it)
2. Look at fan art
It can’t just be me who looks at fan art and gets inspired by specific poses or scenes and then adds those scenes into my book. Come on.
Pretty straightforward. Just search up “fan art for _____,” fan art for a specific fandom you’re into, or even “character scene/pose ideas” on Google or Pinterest.
Personally, I like doing this more than browsing those “book idea” posts that are followed with actual text explaining the idea—looking at art with little to no text can force you to do the work in describing the scene, pose, or character expression.
These scenes tend to help you be specific, creating memorable scenes for your readers. Examples of inspiration I’ve taken from fanart is:
A firework kiss scene
“I got your back!” type trope, where two or more characters fight back to back. IN THE RAIN!
Gunfights!
One character running away while slinging the other across their shoulder
Characters having fun at a festival while wearing flower garlands
When you’re writing, this can motivate you to get to X scene faster, or to finish your book faster so readers can see your characters doing X thing. At least, works for me!
3. Find ONE specific writing buddy
Yes, the writing community is GREAT. But, it can feel a bit detached if you’re always only sharing progress with your large group of followers, instead of someone who knows your WIP inside out.
Find one person or a small group of specific people. Tell each other EVERYTHING about your WIPs. This will feel a lot more personal, and specificity can also help you finish your book faster when they tell you to “finish writing this chapter to get to this scene!”, or when they hold you accountable to a group writing goal.
You can also all form a group chat with daily progress motivation and trackers. Personally, NaNoWriMo forums are great for finding people to just overshare your WIP with and motivate each other.
This way, you guys could also peer review your works periodically. Having another set of eyes on your draft—even when it’s not finished—could give you lots of ideas and guidance on plot direction, characterization, prose, etc.
4. Braindump while listening to a song / playlist
Write to the vibes. Literally just that.
Are there any songs/playlists that really resonate with you or your WIP? Just play it, maybe even on loop, and type ANY ideas from prose to dialogue to scene ideas and themes.
It could literally just look something like this (there is some purposefully bad writing just for this example):
Listening to: [title of your song or playlist]
A: Never thought I’d see you again. B: I know you missed me. *sneer* (Dialogue snippet)
omg they bump into each other on the street and she spills her beer on him and her best friend senses the chemistry (Scene idea)
rivals to lovers (Trope idea)
SILK DRESS. FANCY CLOTHES. YES. (Character design idea)
overcoming your greatest fear!!!!! (Theme idea)
It’s that easy. You got this, soldier.
∘₊✧────── ☾☼☽ ──────✧₊∘
I HOPE THIS HELPED ANYONE!!! Writing this definitely helped me LOL
Let me know if you have any questions through responses, re-blogging, or DMing me at @ grace_should_write on IG.
Happy writing, and have a great day!
Ranting about something: why do I draw Noiz with s/h scars?? Tw: mention of s/h and pain.
-
-
-
Let me start off by saying that it has come to my attention that certain people my find offense to me drawing Noiz and other characters in general with sh scars, let me explain myself. I will emphasize that I only draw SCARS, no fresh wounds nor visible weapons of any kind.
I strongly strongly believe that Noiz has a history of s/h and it is strongly strongly implied that it is is true that he did in the past. Canonically, Noiz does not feel pain and has a condition called Congenital insensitivity to pain, otherwise known as CIP.
As a child Noiz would often be unintentionally violent while playing with other kids due to his lack of physical feeling. He was shunned away by both his parents and the people around him. He grew up being hidden away from the world because of his condition that was viewed poorly. He was very very lonely and obviously miserable for most of his childhood.
In fact he could not feel anything at all whatsoever. So in an attempt to feel anything, even if that feeling was pain, he would play Ryme to try to feel what a simulation of pain. This is another reason I believe he has a history of s/h.
When you play the game, you can play Noiz's route: in his Bad Ending 1, he says something along the lines of, "all I need is pain and Aoba" and I won't dive into detail for triggering reasons, but his ending involves a somewhat violent scene. This once again leads me to believe he would have done that in the past.
Reason number two: when I draw noiz with scars it is also because I draw my kinsona version of him, which is inspired from ME. I draw him like that because I feel a very very strong connection to him.
I understand that Dramatical Murder in general is often shit on and dogged on and a lot of people find it to be problematic; that's fine you can feel that way but it's quite literally my special interest and I cannot just drop it, thats not how it works. I also understand that a lot of people don't understand the story line or the characters and that's fine but that's not my problem. Frankly it is not my fault if you don't like a media.
-
Why do I draw my ocs with scars?
I will once again reiterate that any characters I draw with scars are heavy referenced to ME and are most likely SONAS. I draw my characters that way because I feel more of a deep connection to them that way.
I am in no way sexualizing, romanticizing or making light of s/h. However I strongly feel like people in the community are shunned and looked down upon for their scars, my goal is to share representation and comfort for those with scars.
If I ever draw characters kissing eachother scars or whatever it is because it comes from a place of care and understanding. In my personal experience I find comfort in people kissing my scars, sorry not sorry.
I apologize if I have offended anyone by drawing my characters that way, I will be sure to add tw's from now on when posting art of my characters with visible scars.
This is the one and only time I will say this, I do not need to justify myself to anyone for how I draw MY characters. I can draw them however I want and I absolutely will. If you have a problem with that then don't view my characters, thank you.
I have had a huge falling out with a friend because of this topic so I just needed to say something.
So I've recently found out that there was once a Website for the Video Game Adaptation behind Space Goofs, "Stupid Invaders" where each of the Characters had their own Bios that stated some backstory lore for each of them (including the Antagonists).
Sadly however, from what I've received, the Website itself got shut down ever since Flash had stopped working. However, the Website links as well as their own Video Game Bios still remained on the Franchise's Wiki.
But while diving into some browsing to find some Info, what I found to Me of what was surprisingly interesting towards some Tiny Info on Bolok's Origin Life (which only held about Small Details but there wasn't any much to say on how he became a Hitman) according to the Video Game was that he was somewhat found in a Trash Can and that his own Parents did had some compliments about their Son.
As it's been stated before, Bolok's Father is a Professional Bounty Hunter like his Son, but when we truly never get to hear any mentions towards his Mother (almost as if his Father was more important to his Life than the Mom. Other than calling your own Son as a Future Killer a Little "Terror").
Because since I kept looking at @gingacd's Art of Bolok many times, the Art has somewhat to inspire Me more to draw Lucien as I've recently developed some Headcanon Lore behind his Life (including his own Parents and Caretaker who I've interpreted).
Shoutouts to @gingaswag/@gingacd who've inspired Me.
A Few Notes:
- While drawing some personal interpretations of what Lucien's Parents might've looked like, I'd imagine his Father looking a bit more "Square-Shaped" compare to how if Lucien's meant to be more "Pentagon" and his Mother being a bit more "Cone-Shaped" (mostly the Chin part).
- I made Lucien's Parents have Different Eyes on their own based on their Son's Eyes (so The Father is the one who his Son "borrowed" the Jaundice part while also giving the Mother some Red Eyes with Pupils) which are both Akins to Bolok's redesign in the Game (who he had Hazel Eyes with Pupils but no Jaundice (which is strange because I actually prefer the idea of Bolok having Jaundice while also serving some Red Eyes)).
- Speaking of which, while trying to imagine his own Family, I'd already gave each of them names, so Lucien's Father's name is "Emanuel" while his Mother's name is "Odile" (in both of my Headcanons).
Anyway, here's my own Fan-Origins for Lucien Bolok.
Bolok grew up living his Life at a Complex Apartment within a City. His Mother was a Huge Workaholic who worked as a Cleaning Lady while his Father was a Professional Hitman as he would always come home late (even if the Wife wasn't around for their own Son or Not as whenever when Odile went out to work as a Cleaning Maid for her clients, she too would sometimes come home late and to leave her own Son behind to wait). Despite being a Busy Family, they tried not to be very neglectful of their Son (whom they love) but Lucien already knew as to how much their own Jobs were very important to them since they needed to grow more Money in Order to Survive Life, he'd be the One Housekeeper to settle all of his Chores just like his Mother alone in his Apartment.
In his School Days, he was treated equally but he was more of an Outcast than any of the Other Students (especially his Classmates) since at Recess, he would often be alone doing his own things unless if some Kid were to ask if they could hang out together. Despite being a bit Harmless around Other Kids at his own Age, they would often make Fun of his Bald spot which Lucien tends to hide as his Mother gave him a Sockhead to cover up his Bald Head (since he was born completely with No Hair just like his Father, which kinda embarrasses him when he was a Student). Despite the fact that Lucien did had Neutral Grades as a Child (with a Few Good Grades and Others Not So Much), he would often stay home to re-work on his Homework which disappoints in his Parents considering that their Son gets No Break, even Emanuel told his Son off to never waste his own time with Too Much Work since both Emanuel and Odile wanted their Child to go out and play with Other Kids to make Friends with. But because that Lucien was so Different from so many other Kids, he often wondered though on how he should live his own Life.
On his Roof Days up on His and His Neighbors' Apartments whenever he went upstairs, when he's not busy working like his Parents, Lucien would often go up to see the World as he would often feed some Birds who would come in at the Rooftops for he was more of a Bird kind of Person (he would even feed Birds some of their Garbage Food or even Birdseeds), but most of all, he would always play as The Adventurer in his Imagination during his Childhood through a Play of Pretend (to in which, Odile compliments him, calling his Son a "Terror" but Emanuel suggests that "He'll Maybe Grow-Up To Be An Army Man"). Though the Workers of the Apartment whenever they come up on the Roof would always have mixed feelings of Lucien being alone outside (some wouldn't mind due to his Chilled Nature while Others would find it a bit "Too-Weird" for whenever his Parents weren't around despite still taking care of their own Son).
Needless to say, all things were considered to be "Normal" in Lucien's life.
Until One Day, After getting a Quick Detention in School (after when Lucien fought with some Other Student who was a School Bully), Lucien came home late but only to find out that in his Apartment stairs was some Strange Man who was Extremely Scared (while still looking like a Complete Mess) as he was begging for some shelter after a Huge Frightful Chase with some Hitman that he was Targeted to. All of the Other Neighbors from the Other Apartments refused to help the Poor Man. The Last One left on the Block had to be Lucien considering that the Poor Man asked the Child if it would be Ok to have some shelter at his own Apartment after being rejected multiple times since he wanted to find some Shelter to hide away from his Secret Killer. Despite the fact that Lucien was told Not to Talk to Strangers, he couldn't help but feel so sorry for the Poor Guy as he had take him. Only this time, he hide his Unwanted Visitor in his Room because he knew where if his Parents were to find out on why a Stranger is at their own Apartment, he might end up getting Grounded.
Lucien fed the Poor Stranger while giving him extra Shelter when his Parents weren't around (even his own Father kept searching for his Missing Target that was still out there) as Lucien would tend to hang out with a Fellow Friend that he didn't felt that he didn't feel alone with a Special House Guest. However, it wasn't until that very long when their Secret had to kept being hidden when Odile found out that her own Son had hid a Stranger behind his Closest which freaked her out which caused Lucien to run back to his Apartment from the Rooftop, shocked that their Own Guest was found all along. Lucien tried to explain to his own Mother that the Man who he found was completely lost and had nowhere else to go since he had been running from his Killer that wants to shot him. Feeling sympathy for the Poor Victim, Odile now accept their own Guest to live within their own Apartment as long as they could have a talk with Emanuel to find out on who the Killer is just so that Lucien's Father can shot him to set the Innocent Man free.
But as soon when things turned out to be very unexpected of what should've had been, when the Father had to came home during the night after failing to try to find his Target, the Family had to eat some Dinner at the Table after what a long day had been for them. When Lucien had to ask his Parents if he were to eat in his own Room (in order to save up some Food for their Secret Roommate) but Emanuel constantly said "No" to his Son as he ordered him to finish up his own Meal at the Table but Odile defends this as she lets Lucien go with his own Food as he carried to his own Room. Emanuel felt disgusted as to why he let his own Wife get away with their Son eating in his Room (as part of their own secret that she was about to reveal for Later) but Odile didn't felt like wanting to have an argument with her own Husband considering she never really did want to have none of that for she promised Emanuel to tell him the Truth.
When Lucien had fed their own Roommate to his own Food that he never really did bother to finish that he did had to share it for the sake of it, he heard an Argument coming from both of his Parents when Emanuel bragged to Odile of why she never bothered to let her Son take her own Sockhead off to have his own Bald Head be exposed fine just like his own Bald Head but Odile thought that the idea of their Son having it would be only for the best until he gets older since she didn't want their own Child to be Mocked of by Other Kids. When Lucien had to come in to see his own Parents fighting, he saw that his Father was constantly yelling while blaming his own Mother for not letting their own Son to who he wanted to be through his Whole Life as he even blames Odile for "spoiling" him too much. Seeing his Poor Mother being Victim Blamed with Tears out of her Eyes, Lucien had to step down and stand up to his Father for yelling at Him as he broke out the truth that he only had to fed an Unwanted Guest in their own Apartment. Triggered by this kind of Question, Emanuel asked of what kind of "Guest" that they had the Entire Time while they left their Son alone since Lucien was supposed to not let any Strangers come to his life.
But as a Sudden Noise grew coming from Lucien's Room, Emanuel quickly rushed off to where he had hid his own Stranger where the Son and Mother duo were trying to hide, only to reveal that it was actually his Target that he had been chasing out for Days that their Unwanted Visitor had recognized Him. Revealing to be None Other than his Target who his Client hired to Kill, Pascal Beaufort, it would've have seemed as if though that their Unwanted Guest (Pascal) was stumbling upon his Killer's Home, so depth through awareness that he had been befriending his Killer's Son all this time. The Victim felt deeply frightened to face up his own Serial Killer in Person but as Odile had to stop her own Husband from doing so when Emanuel was trying to shot him through a One Shot, Lucien quickly had to grab Pascal by the Hand to help him escape from his Father's clutches as he instantly pushed him out on the Window where Pascal had to run all the way through the Staircase to get out of this Mess. But unfortunately, Emanuel pushed his Wife away as he went out to chase Pascal (leaving his Family from behind). Fortunately however, things didn't go as lucky as plan for Pascal for when he was in a Dead End with no where else to turn to, he was instantly shot through his Head, leaving Emanuel's Client's Unfinished Business now completed.
Shortly after the Death of his Long-Lost Target had to be sealed, Emanuel and Odile had a big huge fight while Lucien was trying to get some sleep but couldn't bare the nonsense of his Parents fighting but it was the very first time when they fought, especially seeing on how that through a Child's Eyes, they never did witnessed seeing a Huge Fight from their Parents for their Child had watch their Fight from behind through a Brief Peek of his Door for it was the very first time when Emanuel and Odile had started a huge fight over their Unwanted Visitor since Emanuel had to shot him ever since his Client was actually the One who hired Him to shot that Guy but Odile always never bare to understand the idea of Shooting Someone as a "Target", especially when it means for Someone who wishes Someone Else in their own Life to be "Dead". Emanuel states that being a Hitman is only a Job that he can witness to capture a Few Criminals for a living. This Argument ended up in a Huge Fight when Odile's disagreement with her Husband turned into a Physical Beating as Emanuel abused his Wife throughout the Night which ended up traumatizing Poor Lucien as he couldn't peek anymore for he had to turned away, quickly rushed into his Bed. But as the more the noises grew so shrilled upon his nerves, the more he curled up in his Bed to start to cry, feeling his Mother's Pain in a Beating Heart when witnessing the Cries of an Abused Mother for a Hitman's Wife.
After that Horrible Night, Emanuel's Job still kept on going as more Clients of his kept calling Him for the More he had to kept a lookout for his Targets that his Clients hired him to shot at. Lucien didn't say a Word in front of his Father, not even one single ask, but it kept more calm with his Father considering Emanuel never really did lay one single finger to his Son since all of his life, he'd always make Good Advices to Lucien, especially on how that "Patience is a Liability". Odile felt sickly worried if she would ever dare to hurt their own Son just like how he did to his Wife as Odile asked Lucien if his Father ever tried to hurt Him to in which he didn't, but this deeply worried Odile even more, seeing on how that she had ended up becoming a Victim of her own Husband, she was scared on what he might've done to their own Child. In order to prevent a cursed predicament, Odile ended up divorcing Emanuel for she wanted to work a Different Place on her own as she took their own Son away from their Old Apartment (leaving Emanuel from behind) as Odile thought it would be best to start a New Life for her own Son's life to continue to live Happily for the better as Odile and Lucien moved to a Different Apartment away from Emanuel.
During around when the Parents had to Split when Lucien was 11, Odile took her Son to a Nearby Small Beach Village where they had to move there but to also start a New Job as a Washing Maid as she never really did left her Son Home Alone once again whereas Lucien bonded the Sea's Seashells as well as finding some Mysterious Aquatic Creatures (especially Fish). Whenever Odile would dare not to leave her Son Home Alone like last time, she would now take her Son with Her through Market Places whenever they had to go out to buy Food for their own New House that was far from their Village but still near by the Beach.
On Lucien's 12th Birthday, he received a Gift from his Mother which turned out to be a Rake in case if Fall were to come, he would have to rake the leaves out. Lucien didn't seem to mind but he loved his Mother no matter what since it was only the Two that had to take care of their New House. However, as time soon went on after his Twelfth Birthday, Odile started to become very Sick with Cancer for she deeply feared that she's gonna die if she doesn't take care of her own Son for too long, this caused Lucien to help his Mother survive in order to get better with Medicines that he would buy at the Market Place alone for he had tried everything to keep his Mother alive, as Weeks had turned into Months. On the Next Day, when Lucien came home after buying the Last Medicine that would give him hope, he found his Mother striving for her own least breathe on her Death Bed for what it seemed like it was all too late as it was now Odile's time to Go. Lucien held his Mother by her Hand through Odile's last words, she advised her Only Son to go back to his Father's Apartment to in which she believes that Emanuel will protect their Son from any Danger since Emanuel never did bother to abuse their Child unlike what he did to his own Wife. Lucien refused his own Mother's advice but Odile replies it as the "Only Way" for Him to continue living his own Life through. Odile had passed, as it was only Lucien alone who had face many of the World's Dangers, but he trusted in his own Mother as he believed that his Father would be the only one left to Raise Him.
As Lucien began to travel back to his Old Apartment after when he had left his New Home, he began to be somewhat lost around his New Resident Town but as he accidentally randomly bumped into something, he ended up being stuck in a Trash Can for Days with No One to Help Him. After a Few Days of being stuck inside, Lucien was later found by one of the Servants of an certain Orphanage after when he had been discovered by one of them who were taking out the trash, the Servants of the Orphanage took Lucien to see their own Boss who was an Headmaster of Said Orphanage, Ms. Temper (A Cruel, Spiteful, and Greedy Headmistress whose a Higher Class Mistress that demands all of her Students and Servants to Work). Judging by the New Found Orphan, Ms. Temper decided to take Lucien to live with the Other Boys at her Orphanage where Lucien made a New Fond Home that wasn't so Happy but had to dig anyway since after hearing the Death of his own Father, Lucien was now officially an Orphan as he began a Second New Life as a Parentless Child now living among Parentless Kids while being taken care of by their Nasty Unkind Yet Selfish Money-Lover Headmistress Herself.
While living a Life among Other Orphans, Lucien stood out with the Other Kids to make New Friends despite facing some harsh punishments of consequences that many had to face, eating the Same Grub that Lunch Women would feed the Children to everyday despite reading some Books and doing some Education work that they had to get done while Other Kids were signed for Adoption into New Foster Families of their own. Lucien wanted to study on how to use a Gun for Protection but Ms. Temper rejected the idea of Children having Guns as a Weapon considering on how easily dangerous they can be. Whenever a Child were to bring a Dangerous Weapon in the Orphanage, they would tend to get rid of their Weapon and make the Child face a True Worst Punishment on how not to use a Sharp Weapon to scare Other People (even Adults). Because of how that some Orphans were lucky enough to be adopted, No One wanted to adopted Lucien because of how Obscure that he was among Ms. Temper's Orphanage which made the Poor Child felt sad giving the Grief that he had suffered from losing his Parents as he would tend to Envy the Lucky Kids now being taken in by their New Parents, which took him into a Dark Gloomy Path with No One to save his own Life through a Spark of Light in his own Darkness.
As a Few Years had passed when more Orphan Children had came in as Old Ones were fostered, a Few Unlucky Kids (including Him) were still Unadopted as No One even had chosen any one of them yet. When Lucien turned 14, he still lived his own Regular Unpleasant Life despite still having his own Friends who still weren't chosen out yet. But all of that however started to change when Ms. Temper started to get a Pet Fish of her own that One of her Servants gave to her for her own 86th Birthday; A Pet Fish who she named "Ugarte" who had been kept within his Fish Bowl as Ms. Temper would often carry Ugarte by his own Fish Bowl whenever she would go in what direction with the Students seeing their Headmistress' own Pet Fish. But the Headmistress' Fish somehow recognized Lucien, almost as if he himself would be the Key to all of his own Problems. During a Sneak through the Headmistress' Office, Lucien and one of his Friends were sneaking through to get into one of their Files to see on who might be the Next Kid on the Block to be Adopted, but as they snuck through to see the Files, they had no where else to hide when they heard their Headmistress' footsteps grew closer, almost as if they were about to get busted. Ugarte instantly spoke to Lucien and his Friend as he told the Boys to hide from behind the Drawers so that way, none of them wouldn't be found by their own Mistress (which had turned out to be actually one of her Butlers getting her own earrings from her Pool Yard). As the Boys came out of the Drawers, Lucien thanked the Fish for saving their own lives as they quickly headed back into their own Room, but for some odd feeling of a reason, Lucien couldn't help but to question to the Fish of why he saved him if Ms. Temper's Pet Fish did had any care for the Orphans (despite the fact that Ugarte secretly HATED his own Owner for being so Abusive towards Them).
During the Playground, Ugarte wanted to see Lucien so he snuck up behind the vents where he landed on Someone Else's Water Glass whereas Lucien went up to his Bedroom where he forgot one of his own Favorite Books, but upon the Boy's surprise, Ugarte spoke to Him once again when he appeared in the Glass of Water in front of Him. Out of curiosity with raging a Few Questions, Ugarte tells Lucien that he wants to help Him to find a way to escape the Orphanage but in order to do that, Ugarte must be his own Mentor to teach Lucien on how to defend himself if he'll want to stand up towards his Headmistress for all of the abuse throughout those years. Fearing that he may never end up getting adopted by a New Family if he is once again unchosen, Lucien agrees, as throughout the Whole Weekends of his Training Schedule, whenever No One was around to see, Ugarte taught Lucien on how to be very skillful and brave in order to defend himself from both Danger and even Strangers. Being a Skillful Child as he was now, Lucien truly felt like he could perhaps learn on how to be a Professional just like his Father (which he told his Stories about his Life including the Tragedy of his Parents towards Ugarte) but as Ugarte saw the Potential within Him, Lucien couldn't thank enough for the Fish as if he was his Parental Figure in his Life.
When something suspicious began going on lately about one of the Students whenever they were sent to Ms. Temper's office, the Other Orphans were curious but some were yet confused to know on what was going behind those bars, though the Only Orphan that was sent there, had to be none other than a Boy named "Thomas", but Ugarte knew the Horrors whenever his Fish Bowl was on Ms. Temper's desk as he'd forced himself to watch the harmful punishments of being a "Bad Child". This of course got the Attention towards Lucien as he already did caught himself up to a Strange Feeling whenever the Same Orphan would come back from Ms. Temper's office, not even saying a One Single Word nor exposing the Scars behind Thomas' trauma, which Lucien already knew that something was definitely not right. But since Ugarte knew about all of this of what needed to be done, they came up with a Plan in order to see on what Ms. Temper had been doing to one of the Orphans in order to expose her in front of Everyone in the Orphanage.
Lucien snuck through while Everyone was still asleep the Very Next Day when Morning had came, he hid under a few furniture while No One was looking as he snuck through Ms. Temper's office as The Two were finding some research on the History of Ms. Temper's Child Punishments. What they had found from beneath one of her Books that he grabbed were some Very Highly Disturbing Pictures of Former Orphans' Punishments throughout the Years as some were either Brutal or Took it way too far ahead. When Lucien was about to flip the Next Page to see one of the Orphans' recent harsh punishments, Ms. Temper came in as Lucien quickly had hid himself from her as she didn't noticed that one of her Orphan Students were in her Room for she was only grabbing one of her Education books and booked off, leaving Lucien behind with one of her History of her Life Books that he got from his Fish Mentor.
Shortly after doing a lot of Work as all of the Other Kids were about to go outside for Recess, Lucien snuck behind as he saw that the "Special" Orphan himself being picked up by Ms. Temper, just as he was about to make his own move. When Ms. Temper and Thomas were just heading downstairs right in the basement (unaware that they're being followed), Lucien peaked through from behind as soon as when they got down there as he hide himself underneath the Furniture. What he did saw through a Dark Corner was None Other than the Vengeful Witch herself abusing one of her Orphans the hard way through an Emotional Actual Whiplash with her Whip which caused the Poor Boy to scream as Thomas was crying through Pain with his Scars bleeding red from behind his back. The Poor Boy cried in Pain getting the Worst Punishment in his Life as the Greedy Headmistress Laughed. Shocked in terror through his Wide Eyes of exposure for he had never seen such cruelty of Child Abuse, Lucien quickly grabbed a Camera (who he stole from one of Ms. Temper's servants without knowing) as he took pictures behind the evidence of Ms. Temper's secret behavior behind Thomas' recent troubles. Hiding the evidence in his Box underneath his Bed, Lucien now knew on what was going on in Poor Thomas' recent mood for he felt sad for all of the Emotional Abuse that he went through without telling anybody about the Harsh Truth. The Outcast Boy felt like that he wanted to stood up to one of his Friends after trying to confront Thomas but Ugarte suggested that the only way to stop his Nightmare is by standing up to the Greedy Headmistress herself since while Most and Many of the Orphans were always afraid by their Headmistress, No one ever even tried to stand up to Ms. Temper, not even once. So it all hand to be done in Lucien's hands.
However, there was a premise signed that Thomas had been adopted into a New Foster Family. Considering of his recent Sadness, Thomas wouldn't be able to live a long happy life if he had the chance to talk with all of the Trauma bothering Him but this often questioned to Lucien on what kind of Madness did Thomas had to serve himself into through this kind of "Punishment" that Ms. Temper served him. On the Next Day before his Adoption Signature, in the Early Morning, Lucien knew on what truly had to be done as He and Ugarte already snuck in the Basement to wait for Ms. Temper to come since they already discussed for what they did had in mind of their Plan. Before they could trap her in, they managed to find where she had hid one of her Keys as they were in one of the Basement's drawers, in which one of the Keys was the Key to the Basement that they've managed to find. During their secret hideout when they waited for a Few Hours, they quickly woke up when they heard a creek coming from the Open Door as Ms. Temper was about to head downstairs without noticing any further that someone must've been in the basement before her other than hearing some Strange Steps or Slithering that startled her surroundings. The Duo immediately ran up to lock her up from behind which caught the Headmistress in surprise for a Trap. Mrs. Temper tried to open the Door but it was officially locked as she even banged while screaming at the Door begging to be let out, which in truth that it was Ugarte that Lucien helped him to lock the Door.
The Orphans began to become curious on why Ms. Temper wasn't around for they all checked but No Answer had to be fond (not even the Servants were smart enough to find her). But something exciting came within the Children's Minds that maybe she might've been gone which the Kids then started a Rebellion Day of their Headmistress not being at the Orphanage Today, but when the Servants tried to convince the Orphans that they can't do whatever they want, the Kids were too strong enough to face the Adults (considering that the Orphanage Servants were within Ms. Temper's demands, especially since all of them were in no doubt very afraid of her) as they all tied the Servants up when the Kids managed to start having their Fun Day of an "No Adults" Party in a Very Chaotic Manner. Every child managed to mess up every single Room throughout the Orphanage as their Reckless Party was a Massive Wonderland to Them, but a Huge Nightmare for the Guardians. Lucien had realize of what He and his Fish Friend had done had turned into a Wild Disaster when every Kid in the Orphanage made their own Mess in every part of their Home Institution. Lucien tried to stop them, almost as if he was acting like he was the Adult in this Situation. But the Orphans believed that he was on Ms. Temper's side as if he was trying to betray them, so they kicked him out of their own Group where Lucien had to hid himself in his own Room. In one of his Roommates' Bedrooms next to his Bed, stood the Young Sympathetic Abused Kid sitting in his own Bed while being curled up with his Head down to his Knees. Lucien had already knew about Thomas' trauma as the Two started to talk things out where Lucien had to comfort Thomas since he knew what Ms. Temper had been doing to Him lately as he promised to stand up to her for Poor Thom.
Few Hours later during the Chaos Party, one of the Servants managed to untie themselves for they found the Basement Door Key to their Basement when they discover that the Headmistress had been trapped inside for Hours. They released the Door with the Key which came about the Wrathful Hot-Headed Woman who had been trapped in the Basement for Hours. When she sees all of the Disastrous Mess by the Orphans, in Rage, she screamed so loud which caused all of the Orphans to stop partying for the Spiteful Harpy wanted to learn the Truth on who was behind this all just so that she can serve Another Student a very Harsh Punishment. Lucien and Thomas had heard her scream, but because that it was all Lucien's fault that caused this Mess, he took Thomas by the Hand where they had to hid behind Ms. Temper's office where she had heard a loud slam, causing her to believe that one of her Orphans that had trapped her had to hide from her somewhere.
When the Boys try to figure a way out on how to escape when they already locked the Door, they tried to figure out a secret passage hidden through the Windows so they managed to grab the Curtains to turn them into a Rope, just so that they could climb out. But as the Banging Noise had grown even more Louder than before, the Boys tried to hurry up but upon Lucien's bumping accident, he stumbled upon a Small Knife from one of the Drawers that accidentality opened by themselves which revealed to be none other than the Object of the True Reason as to why Thomas had been recently brutally punished. Confused by the Actual Truth, Thomas tried to explain as to why he had brought a Knife to the Orphanage was because that he wanted to escape the Orphanage just so that he could find a Foster Family of his own since he got very tired of being left out throughout the Years. Feeling somewhat bad about his own True Reason, Ms. Temper instantly busted through the Door which frightened the Poor Boys as she immediately charged right after them just as they jumped out of the Window as they held on to the Curtain Rope when both instantly landed right outside on the Ground.
But what Lucien realized was that he forgot to grab Ugarte and have him join him so he leaves Thomas behind where he boost up back inside to get him, only to find that Himself in the exact same hallway as their Headmistress for he had accidentality trapped himself. As Ms. Temper was about to attack Lucien multiple times as he kept defending himself, he instantly scurried off where Ms. Temper tried to claw him as he ran up to her office where he instantly grabbed Ugarte by his Fish Bowl since he had almost forgot about him. When the Human Witch busted through the Door just as she was about to harm Lucien, Ugarte managed to jump up and Slap his Owner with his Fish Tail so hard that it lead Ms. Temper in a clumsy walk with her head started to feel so unconscious. Lucien backed himself up away from the Window as Ms. Temper fell down off the Window and broke her Neck as she landed down, leaving her to be fully dead. The Rest of the Orphanage couldn't believe that Lucien had killed the Headmistress, even Lucien couldn't believe it either for his very first kill that he had never made before. This often questioned the rest of the Orphanage on who would now lead the Orphanage now with Ms. Temper now killed off.
Despite being horrified of his very first kill for he knew that he had sinned during the Funeral, most of the Orphans were glad not to deal with her anymore but Lucien's beginning of guilt somewhat began to gloss over his life. Thomas thanked Lucien for saving his life from that Horrible Mistress since he and the rest of the Orphans never have to deal with her ever again. But the choice for a New Headmaster of the Orphanage had to be decided upon One of the Servants as the New Head to look out of the Orphanage with Good Care instead of using Cruelty for the Orphanage now had a New Headmaster. Ugarte assured Lucien that it wasn't his Fault since he truly wanted to get rid of her himself ever since he first came only as a "Collection" instead of being treated as a Real Pet.
After when Thomas got adopted into a New Loving Foster Family of his own, the Orphanage somehow started to get better as Education was getting easier, the Children were allowed to getting whichever snack they want, and most importantly they didn't have to face harsh punishments (the Only New Punishment Rule was go to sit in a Corner for a Time-Out Chair). But as the Orphanage started to get low when more Foster Families came by to pick one, Ugarte thought maybe now would be his only chance to raise Lucien through a disguise as he paid the New Headmaster to take Lucien with Him through a Van on their own. Lucien felt surprised that it was his Fish Father figure was in disguise the Whole Time when he had been chosen to be adopted, knowing that Ugarte can give Lucien a fully rebirth-life as it was now only the Boy and his Pet Fish that lived in their own New Home.
As Time went on, Ugarte kept teaching Lucien on how to be Independent as he kept studying in his own ways on how to be a Very Mature Adult with Responsibilities of his own. When Lucien was around 18, he thought it would be better if he could moved to a House on his own (along with his Pet Fish with Him) since they knew that they couldn't live in a Van for that very long as Lucien was given the legal rights to live in a New House on his own after paying the Bills with his own Money as Lucien and Ugarte now lived in their own Last New Home (even after Lucien's previous homes) ever since that he'd waiting for so long to become a Full-Fledged Adult. Although despite when Lucien was now currently in his Adulthood, he always went for a "Bad Boy" look which caused all Women in his Age to fall for Him but he was never really haven't it since he wasn't too interest in Romance from that moment on. At the age of 21, he decide to get a Part-Time Job as a Professional Hitman just like how his Father was when he began to study and practice on to how to be a Hitman. Years later, to cover up in all of his Tragedies of his Old Life, he became an Official Professional Hitman as He and Ugarte were now a Duo, he would be hired for whenever client he would signed up to be shot or to capture for his own Next Target.
For those who are curious about the Name for Bolok's Pet Fish, it was a Fanon Name that I had to borrow from my Friend, @djinarocks as a Namesake for One of Peter Lorre's Characters in his Other Films (presumably in "Casablanca") since Me and My Friend believed Bolok's Fish to be Another One of those Lorre-Based Characters.
EDITED:
Fixed Odile's Face to resemble more of her own Son's Face compare to the Dad so I apparently made Luci's Mother's face more "Fish-Like".
CLEAR UPDATE AS OF 9/7/2024:
Apparently, I've just recently found out that the Game's Website has NOT been deleted (or has been just recently brought back up) as the first link that I try didn't seem to work but when re-trying it, it's officially restored somehow but since one of the link pages from the Wiki were somewhat either broken or weren't just working right, here's the Click to the Website based off of the Video Game Adaptation's storyline and concept here.
Your original illustrations are really fantastic. I dig the colors and the anime girls. I feel like I resonate with them well, so I am curious about what creatively influences you. Like... Why do you color as you do? Why are your illustrations of anime girls? What do you think of when illustrating? Are there artists, pieces of media, or events in your life that inspire your stylings? Sorry if that seems like a lot or if I'm being intrusive! I just really want to know why your art is the way it is, but I feel that if I ask that so simply, I may not receive an answer with nuance, which is what I'm hoping for.
no worries about being intrusive, if anything, i appreciate the ask!
there's no clear-cut answer for a lot of these, but i'll try to articulate as much as much as possible. i started drawing from a very young age (~5 or so), and my preference was always cartoons/games/anime. i always enjoyed heavy stylization - not that i disliked realism, it just felt as if i had already seen so much of it before? and this isn't to discredit such works, just that they werent something i personally gravitated towards.
as i got older, i realized i wanted to pursue my goal of becoming an artist. things started to change when i entered college, though. it's a choice i dont regret, but i often felt a bit lost in comparison to my peers - because i didnt really draw [or study/learn] the way they did. i still struggle with insecurities regarding technical skill or talent because of this - and i actually stopped drawing for a year or so after i graduated. i kept thinking "its just another anime style anyways." (which is discrediting in and of itself, as all art has value regardless of how subjective it may be).
basically, i did a lot of soul searching - and the reasons i wanted to draw started to resurface. i loved drawing incredibly cute, yet somewhat outlandish looking characters. of course there's a sense of nostalgia with this, but i always preferred the art used for older anime (90s and early-mid 2000s specifically). i'm also really into hobbyani, which is basically hobby/kids media (precure, duel masters, beyblade, etc). i love the sense of experimentation that comes from designers who intentionally market stuff to a broader audience within restrictions, if that makes sense? it just seems to resonate with me.
i'm also heavily into old tech/computer graphics. a big example of this is the old (and still running!) chat program known as worldsplayer. i discovered it about a decade ago, and while a lot of people found it ominous or strange, it felt... comfortable to me. reminded me a lot of the stuff i used to play as a kid, but beyond that, a sense of style/texture i wanted to replicate in my artwork.
(as a sidenote: i actually run a sideblog dedicated to old chatroom media called digitalspacetraveler!)
as for specific inspirations/artists? i love the traditional sketchiness of van gogh, rembrandt, etc. a lot of classical painters during the renaissance era + beyond come to mind. for more modern artists, id say yoshitoshi abe, shigenobu matsumoto (duel masters mangaka), yoshihiko umakoshi (doremi, heartcatch precure, casshern sins), hajime ueda, and a plethora of artists on tumblr/pixiv/twitter.
basically, i love the idea of combining ridiculous amounts of texture with otherwise cutesy and/or 'smooth' styles, such as those found in anime/manga. the end goal is pretty different from the initial sketch, but that's what makes it fun to me. mimicking traditional mediums while also incorporating digital processing, overlays, and filters!
The other day I was thinking about the fact that I've been told my longer fics are written in a fairly unique way. While I view this observation as neither negative nor positive (it is what it is), I thought it might be interesting to dig into that particular topic more.
I feel like writing style works similarly to artistic style: you tend to come into your own eventually after enough practice and work at your craft. I couldn't actually cite a specific writer as inspiration for my writing style (or "voice" I suppose), but I also tend to not want to mimic prose styles—not even the ones I like the most. Because of this, even my earliest "writing voice" would probably feel somewhat familiar to anyone used to my work.
It feels weird to say I've always had a stable writing voice, but that's more or less the truth for me. I've bettered it over the years (versus finding it the way some do), but I think I've always felt secure in what I had. It probably helped that the old days of FFN gave me hundreds of reviews on 'fics and a lot of encouragement.
A long time ago, I saw a piece of fanart I really liked, and sought to redraw it in real life. This was the early 2000s, maybe 2002 or 2003. It was an MLP fanart of...I want to say Glory and Baby Glory (from the 80s), and I redid it on a huge piece of paper I'd taken from my school's art room. I busted ass to replicate the piece. It was a great replica, actually, and I posted it online, eager to share my hard work. I'm sure you can imagine what happened! The community recognized the source immediately and was annoyed with me. They scolded me for copying an artist, explained why that wasn't a good idea, and I never did it again. (I felt stupid but I realized that day that nobody cared how well I could replicate someone else's hard work; people wanted to see my spin on the idea.)
After that, I always had my own very recognizable style of art and I didn't seek to recreate the work of others, even if I liked it a lot. I just started drawing what I wanted how I wanted to do it—in my own style.
While I found many things to like about the prose of friends and published authors, I never tried to mimic someone else's prose wholesale. I've never even been tempted by it; writing like someone else feels so incredibly unnatural; I'd sooner give up writing entirely than tell my stories the way someone else would.
That said, this post isn't really about writing "voice" so much as the specific way I tend to tell stories, though I do think actual writing style factors in here, and I'll get to that in a second.
My favorite genre of fiction for a good number of years was historical "inspirational" fiction. You may laugh if you wish, but I grew up in a very strict Christian household, and...frankly there wasn't much literature to choose from. My mom loved doing "daily devotions" and at some point, on the recommendation of someone else, she started reading us "Love Comes Softly" by Janette Oke. All four of us kids really loved it. We memed the hell out of it and to this day we have at least one in-joke based on it. It was part of a long book series, and eventually I read them all. This book tackled a surprising amount of issues, including domestic violence, and had a great trope that I still adore: a marriage of convenience.
I was obsessed with Janette Oke's books after that. Roses for Mama, The Bluebird and the Sparrow, A Bride for Donnigan, the four-book seasons series, and They Called Her Mrs. Doc. There were plenty more, but those were some of the most iconic to me.
If you didn't know, the very specific subgenre of Historical Inspirational Romance Fiction (can I call it HIRF?) tends to read similarly across the genre. Some novels play up the romance a little more, some the relationships between the characters, some the faith aspect, but generally speaking these books tend to have predictable elements. The male lead usually has a bestie he's emotionally vulnerable and open to. The female lead's friends, siblings, and/or other family members are important to her and play a role in the story. These stories tend to feature or utilize animals. There is almost always a focus on relationships overall, in every story. In Roses for Mama a family of four is orphaned and the oldest two siblings raise the youngest two and run the farm. The primary relationships are between the four siblings and their friend group(s). The challenges of "parenting" siblings are here. Kids tend to act like kids in these books too. There are huge varieties in the ages of characters and some young women have best friends who are decades older than they are. Some of these writers are very serious too about being accurate regarding the places they're writing about (coal towns full of immigrants who are mistreated by the coal companies for example).
The first book I loved was I'll Always Love You by Hans Wilhelm. The Velveteen Rabbit also holds a place in my heart.
Relationships are ALWAYS at the core of everything I write these days. I love exploring how people affect the world around them. I like to write about the complexities of sibling relationships and friendships over the years. I love history and how "the times" impacted the way relationships worked. HIRF was foundational to me as a reader and a lot of those elements are things I have chosen to carry with me. Everything I write is about a character journey more than it's about anything else.
Yes, I want to write about the blorbos in situations, but these situations are a means to an end. I want the situation to happen but I want to explore every facet of how it affects the blorbos.
Dumping a baby on Raine in Break Open the Sky was a way to explore a character trying to do the right thing but feeling completely overwhelmed by it. It was about breaking cycles and doing better for the next generation. It was about choices, about how difficult they can be to make even when they're selfish. And it was about learning to trust and love while finally having a place and the safety to begin healing from trauma. The baby was the means to that end—a plot vehicle, yes, but hopefully she didn't feel that way because she had her own needs and impacted the story right to the very end.
I think my particular writing style, my "voice" if you will, lends itself well to this particular type of slow-burn character-study-esque storytelling. I try to hit a middle ground with descriptions and write a lot of engaging dialogue. I try to write people being people without being too sparse or detailed. Both sparse and detailed writing have their places and genres they do really well in, but in the very weird subgenre of writing I've nestled into I do think my voice tells the story to satisfaction.
As to what subgenre I'm writing in... I honestly don't know what to call it. It's like HIRF in spirit, but I tend to substitute more "adult" themes for the romance and have less or no focus on religious faith (though it depends on the characters). I don't actually think there's a name for it, though of course if someone has a name for it, I'd be happy to learn what it is. In the meantime I'll just consider what I write to be HIRF-adjacent.
Picturebook roundup - used book finds!
i accumulate books in all kinds of ways and they tend to pile up in my apartment. i did a little reorganizing recently and found some picturebooks i clearly acquired used somewhere but have no memory of! but now i have read them, cataloged them for my home library, and shall review them for funsies.
Speedboat by James Marshall
starting off swell with a book that is not in fact a picturebook, it's an early reader! but that's ok, i'm lumping it in because it can work for the same general age range as a picturebook.
James Marshall was a beloved and prolific writer and illustrator, and (like many beloved children's authors of his era) was gay. i mention this because it's so charmingly clear in this book about two "pals," Jasper Raisintoast and Jack Tweedy-Jones, who have different adventures in the book but start and end the day together in the same bed. it's a fun story, marked by wacky humor, unexpected twists, and emotions expressed simply and sincerely as it follows the two protagonists through their surprising days. and Marshall's art is so cartoony and delightful! but what makes me happiest about it is feeling this gentle connection with a fellow queer, basing his story in life as he knew it, as straightforwardly as he was able in 1976 when this book was published.
age rec: story-wise, i think this would go over well in the 4-8 range. since it's an early reader, it's specifically meant for kids who are starting to read on their own, which is different ages for different kids! this is somewhere in the middle as far as level goes, for a kid who is already comfy reading super simple books and is expanding their vocabulary.
a bit i really liked: i adore these two "pals."
Just Me by Marie Hall Ets
what a little gem! i see why it was a Caldecott Honor book. a child narrates their day learning how to move like different animals on and around the family farm, before running "like nobody else at all. JUST ME," to catch up with their father for a boat outing on the lake. it's peaceful and simple and very sweet to me.
the art is lovely too, black and white vignettes that look maybe like charcoal? it has an old-fashioned look (because it is old, first published in 1965) that makes me very nostalgic. and i ADORE the little smiles on all the animals as they walk, or flap, or wallow, or hop, and the child mimics them!
age rec: it's pretty simple, so maybe 2-4! or picturebook enthusiast adults like me, who are charmed by simple books done well.
a bit i really liked: just look at the grin on this horse!
Kinki the Cheeky Colt by Margaret Greig
you know, sometimes you pick up a book because you're a horse girl and the book has a funny name, not expecting much from it, and those expectations are met. this is the kind of book that is clearly inspired by the real antics of one or several real horses, without any actual story arc, and the prose is somewhat clunky. but! i learned from the author bio that Greig was quadriplegic and wrote and painted with her mouth, which is wicked cool. i like the dreamy pastoral painting style of the art, and how the texture of the canvas comes through.
age rec: it's a little wordy for a picturebook, so maybe a 4-7 range?
a bit i really liked: this page has a Marguerite Henry vibe that i'm into.
Horns/ wings/ etc.: N/A Transformed form: Hyunjin, in his snake form, is a large Black Mamba. He is much larger than an average snake, roughly 20ft long, as wide as his human form, so when transformed he is an extraordinary specimen with a piercing ring of blue around his pupil (which makes it easier to distinguish him – apart from the huge size.) His scales are pitch black, with a blue sheen in the sunlight. His mouth is also a deep black, with pearly white fangs. His bite is as powerful as black mamba, while incredibly venomous his actual bite force does more damage due to his fangs.
♚ // Character ; Personality
Six personality traits: Charismatic, Clever, Observant, Manipulative, Childish and Soft
[ Need inspiration? ]
Likes: Plants, Alcohol, Painting, Sunbathing, Archery
Dislikes: Large bodies of water, churches, sparkling water, crowded areas, being bored
Manias: Plants, and gemstones. Phobias: Large bodies of water, churches. Animal: Cat (surprisingly) Religion: Atheist Favorite song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cipptxkYd8M&pp=ygULbXNpZXJ5IG1lYXQ%3D (Misery Meat – Sodikken) Vice: Sloth Virtue: Patience
Personality description: Hyunjin comes across as quite cold, as he can be introverted – preferring to observe people before engaging in any way. However, under the somewhat cold exterior, he is quite a soft-hearted individual, who is very sensitive to other people. He doesn’t particularly like letting people in to that soft-hearted core, but if he does let you in, he would consider you a close friend. He expresses himself through his art, which is where he lets out all of his emotions. Growing up, he wasn’t allowed to express himself the way he wanted, which is why he struggles now, but he is actively working on it. When in his close circle he is fiercely protective, and loyal (sometimes to a fault.)
♚ // Character ; Powers Magical Powers:
Poison Generation: Hyunjin is able to create a potent venom, even in human form (but takes a lot more effort to express). The venom is potent enough that two drops can kill a human.
Skin Shedding: When injured, Hyunjin can shed his skin, which vastly increases his healing time. However, this is a very time intensive activity, and can leave him vulnerable for up to 5 days while his skin is still new.
Stealth: Hyunjin is remarkably light on his feet, and even more in his snake form. He can sneak up on normal humans without even trying.
Non-magical Powers: Painting, and Archery
Weaknesses:
Gold: Hyunjin cannot come into contact with gold, as it leaves deep burns in his skin, which even with shedding, doesn’t heal quickly or easily.
Cold Temperatures: If Hyunjin becomes too cold, he can become very slow and sluggish. If left too long he can go into a coma-like state if not heated up in time, which would eventually kill him, He also experiences a kind of brumation – not quite hibernation but during the colder months he becomes slower and much more lethargic.
♚ // Character ; The Teacher / Staff
Class they teach: Art Teacher Teaching style: Laid-back, but with strict tendencies if students are being lazy. Previous teaching experience: Worked as an art teacher in a university, back in the early 2000’s. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, however he had to leave abruptly when a member of staff became suspicious that he wasn’t quite human.
♚ // Character ; The Past
Date of Birth: 19 – July - 1976 Crime Record: Was held as a suspect for a series of murders that included people being killed with snake venom. Was acquitted due to lack of evidence (he had no hand in it, but someone he knew had broke into his store of venom he kept, and tried to pin the murders on him).
Has your character attended Insolitus Academy in the past? No Background: Hyunjin came from a relatively well off family of Nagini, his immediate family all having the same power, so growing up he was taught from an early age how to manage his powers. His family were relatively wealthy, and were very into the arts, which is where Hyunjin started his artistic career. He did not have many friends growing up, due to his own shyness, and fear of being found out as not completely human. His family told him stories of humans killing and torturing people like him, if the humans found out, and so he kept to himself. He had a few friends, mostly other non-humans, but one, who was an enchanted doll. They were very close, and Hyunjin felt especially safe around them since his venom had no affect on them, and because they both aged slow (or not at all in his friend’s case). His friend also did not judge him, or anyone, which was one of the main reasons they became so close. As he grew up, and went through school, his friend who he nicknamed Sunny due to their near constant smile. They grew even closer as they headed into adulthood. Unfortunately, when Hyunjin was in college, Sunny suddenly disappeared, never to be seen again. Hyunjin retracted into himself, finding solace in his own isolation for many years, even moving into the countryside where he could focus on his art, which for many years happened to include a very happy puppet.
After a few years of isolation, he decided he was ready to become part of the community once again. Going into university to get his teaching degree, he purposely kept to himself, and after gaining his qualifications, he quickly fell into a job teaching college students. He flourished here, finally feeling a sense of belonging and even made a few human friends, even if they were kept at an arms distance. Unfortunately, during one staff meeting outside of work, one of his colleagues had bought him a piece of gold jewellery, a necklace, which she surprised him with by placing around his neck, and due to the unopened shirt – had touched his skin. The reaction was immediate, the smell of burning flesh was not something easily forgotten. He had rushed to the bathroom, tearing the necklace off his neck, burning his hands in the process. Hyunjin had managed to play it off as a severe gold allergy, but unbeknownst to him, a member of staff had actually witnessed him shedding his skin and had made threats to out him to the school board if he did not leave…and so he left. But instead of running like he had initially planned, he came across Insolitus Academy – a place filled with people like him…and it was somewhere he might actually be himself.
It's Never Too Late to Come Back to my Side
A (very short) Fierrochase fic, inspired (very loosely) by "Dorothea" by Taylor Swift
Pairing: Magnus Chase & Alex Fierro, Magnus Chase/Alex Fierro
Summary: Decades after getting together and years after breaking up, Alex and Magnus take a tiny step towards rekindling their friendship.
Word count: 703 (Hence why I'm publishing on Tumblr rather than Ao3).
Alex’s door was already open, which made this a whole lot easier for Magnus. He peered inside, listening to the music she was playing on the speakers he had gotten her for her nineteenth birthday. It didn’t feel that long ago, even though it was— fifty-three years whisked by as a series of seconds. Time flies when you’re having fun. Maybe that’s why the last five years had dragged so much.
Alex sat at her pottery wheel, shaping some odd lump. A similar odd lump started forming in Magnus’s throat. It had been half a decade since their break-up, but she still looked so pretty. Of course, he had seen her in the interim. They’d met every day for the daily battle. They sat at the same table at dinner. And they avoided eye contact as if their lives depended on it.
Magnus knocked on the doorframe. “Alex?”
Alex stopped turning the wheel and turned to look at him. Her face hadn’t changed. Of course her face hadn’t changed; she was immortal, forever stuck at sixteen. She quickly glanced away, leaning over and shutting off the power on the speakers.
“Hey.” Her voice was a little surprised, and a little delicate. At least she didn’t sound angry like she had when he tried talking to her in the first year after the break-up. “What?”
Magnus pursed his lips and looked past her, trying to figure out how to phrase his request. On the back wall of her room was a painting that hadn’t been there when they had been dating. It was a gorgeous modern art piece, like something from the Harlem Renaissance, featuring people playing trumpets in bright, vibrant colors.
“Where’d you get the painting?” he asked.
Alex glanced behind her. “Oh. It was a gift from Badr.”
Magnus smiled. “I love Badr. It’s crazy how her kids are our age now.”
“You keep in contact with the Fadlans?” Alex asked.
“Of course I keep in contact with the Fadlans,” Magnus said. “Samirah is old and decrepit now. I like making fun of her.”
“Hey, she ain’t bad for 71.” Alex’s smile eased Magnus’s nerves a little bit.
“Yeah, she really isn’t,” Magnus agreed.
There was a somewhat awkward silence.
“Well?” Alex asked. “Did you just come here to hang out, or…?”
Magnus bit the inside of his cheek. “I have a favor to ask, actually.”
“Shoot.”
“We’re having some trouble at Chase Space.” Magnus leaned against the doorframe.
“What kind of trouble? Monster trouble?”
“No. See, we’re kind of short-staffed since—” since you left, Magnus thought, “— since Hearth retired.”
“Oh.” Alex looked down at her creation on the wheel.
“Yeah,” Magnus said. “Look, I know it’s a lot to ask, but if you don’t have anything going on… do you think you could come in and help out? You’ve always been great with the kids, and—”
“Yeah, of course,” Alex said.
Magnus blinked. He hadn’t expected her to be so easily convinced. “Are you sure?”
“Yes, I’m sure. I always loved working with the teenagers. Also, I miss Hearth and Blitz.”
Magnus cracked a smile. “How long has it been since you’ve seen them?”
Alex thought about it. “Jeez, I haven’t met up with them since my going-away party at Chase Space. I feel bad now. I should have arranged something.”
“Don’t feel bad,” Magnus assured her. “They’re old, anyway. They don’t have a lot of interesting things to talk about.”
This time the joke fell flat. Alex looked at her hands, covered in clay. “Yeah. Well, I’ll see you… when? Tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow would be great, if you don’t mind,” Magnus said.
“I don’t.” Alex gave him a little sarcastic smile and waved her hand. “Okay. Bye.”
“Bye,” Magnus said.
He leaned out of the doorway and walked across the hall to his own room. Unlocking the door, he wondered if Alex still had a copy of his key. What would she have done with it? Turned it back into the hotel staff? Sold it to someone out of spite?
Magnus slipped into his room, still very conscious of Alex’s open door behind him. Just as he closed his door, he heard the music from across the hallway start back up.
Reboot VS Avatar Comparison Part 1
A little while ago I stated that Reboot did much of Avatar the last Airbender’s tropes and beats a lot better then the show and I suppose I should put my money where my mouth is and explain why I think such.
Reboot was eleven years old when Avatar first came on the air and was somewhat of a children’s show rock star at the time. Especially in North America. It wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine the show runners being at least a little inspired by the show. One can actually see how influential the series was when they take into account the very striking similarities between Mad Max Fury Road and the Mad Max the Road Warrior inspired episode of Reboot titled Bad Bob. Both plots involve the protagonist driving a transport truck down a deserted post apocalyptic highway, hauling a fuel source while the antagonists attempt to stop them. And then you look at the writing staff and realize Brenden McCarthy, who worked on the art during the production of Reboot, Co-wrote Mad Max Fury Road. An episode of a children’s show went on to influence a movie twenty years later.
Enough padding though lets get down to the comparison.
The Hero
Bob from Reboot and Aang from Avatar
Both main series protagonists are very similar. Both are goofy at times and serve the role as the main hero often coming to blows with the early villain. The part I find striking is that both have humanitarian values preferring non violent solutions to defeating their enemies. With Avatar Aang he uses the removal of bending, Bob uses reformatting of the core programming. These are later called into question as to whether they are worse or better then actual death by other characters. Reboot actually had time to bring up the reformatting of viruses and call into question that such an act erases some of victim’s personhood during the shows run time. It even presents Bob with this question and it wouldn’t be addressed until years later In the Avatar series with the advent of Amon, even still we would not see Aang confronted with this very same question until the Imbalance comic.
Heroic Siblings
Dot and Enzo Matrix vs Sokka and Katara
Both siblings have the sister being the more parental figure of the group as well as being the love interest of the main hero, while the brother suffers from an inferiority complex brought on by being less capable then the people in his life and an older male figure in their life whom they admire.
While Katara suffers from parentification due to her being the younger sibling, Dot is not quite so burdened being the MUCH older sibling. Dot is already a responsible adult with her own thriving business and a good head on her shoulders when she is forced into the position of being a parent to her brother Enzo after the death of their actual parent Welman Matrix.
Not the only parallel. Welman is the father but shows a kind and supportive nature while having a very close bond with his daughter Dot. He does die in a round about way, Sprites after deletion tend to turn into little slug monsters called Nulls that absorb energy like a leech. Its a rather bittersweet reunion when his consciousness returns in the form of a collection of Nulls forming a humanoid body. Dot spent a desperate amount of time trying to bring her father back and now that he’s there, she can’t even hug him cause his new form would drain her of energy.
Enzo in a similar vein to Sokka is left feeling inferior no matter how much he may try to help. He lacks in ways different from Sokka’s non-bending, he’s a kid surrounded by adults. Enzo aspires to be a successful business-man like his older sister Dot, just as much as he aspires to be a guardian like his Hero Bob. Eventually he gets his chance when Bob is sent off into the web via betrayal. Much like Sokka who desired to be a warrior and leader like his father Enzo flounders at first but gets the hang of it quickly with a unique style of his own that is not quite like Bob but is something akin to his hero.
Villain Siblings
Megabyte and Hexadecimal vs Zuko and Azula
Personality wise Megabyte has closer comparisons to Ozai than Zuko but in a sibling Dynamic Hex and Megabyte have closer ties to Zuko and Azula. And I would be remiss if I ignored it for character personalities. One of the closest similarities is that they both share a violent sibling rivalry but will join forces if the need arises, one gets a redemption arch while the other comes back as a more dangerous villain with a grudge, the sister is shown as more mentally unstable, both have a royalty motif throughout their design, etc etc... but how do they compare on an individual level?
Megabyte much like Zuko was a much more frequently shown villain than Hex. He has aspirations to higher power and it often brings him into conflict with the heroes as he attempts to use the main hero and their assets to achieve this end. He also has a very violent rivalry with his sister often resulting in his humiliation. This ultimately culminates in an arch where the brother has his sister captured and restrained and made to co-operate under threat of violence. Sound familiar yet?
youtube
In this case, Megabyte is placed in the wrong clearly by the narrative, but with avatar the shoe is on the other foot. Hex and Azula deserve their on parallel page cause there is a lot to cover.
Next time.
Where I Belong
Summary: Your and Mike's son has a bad dream. He wants his father to comfort him. While comforting his little boy he reflects back on his past.
Pairing: Mike/Reader, Mike with his son
Word Count: 1,275
Warnings: none. All fluff. Sweetheart Mikey being a sweetheart dad.
A/N: I really wanted to see Mikey as a father, then suddenly inspiration struck. Mike deserved better so we’re out here giving it to him!
Disclaimer: I do not own Mike, Hellrasier, or Henry Cavill, much to my dismay. Only the kids and the wife are my original creation.
Do not copy any part of my material to use as your own. Do not repost my work, or any portions of my work on any site and claim it as your own. Like all my other fics, this was written on my phone and not beta’d.
***
This work of art right here came from the lovely @luna-aestas Thank you so much for such a beautiful piece!
***
It was 2:13 am according to the alarm clock on your bedside table. Your home was peacefully quiet. Then from the darkness of your bedroom came a small voice. “Daddy?” The voice was very soft, very timid. “Daddy?” The little voice was scared.
You were sleeping peacefully, unaware of the meek little voice calling out for his father. A shaky little hand reached out for his fathers shoulder. Giving him a light shake, he spoke a bit louder this time, with fresh tears falling from his eyes, “Daddy?”
Mike woke from a dream of his own. His reality went from losing his swimming trunks at the water park he used to frequent in his childhood, to the familiar darkness of his current bedroom that he shared with his wife of five years. There was a dim nightlight by the door, and one in the hallway for your son to be able to see his way around if needed, but otherwise nothing except the orange glow of the street light down below between the slits in the blinds of your window by the bathroom.
“Daddy?” Mike took in a sharp inhale of breath through his nose, letting his eyes adjust.
“Adam? What’s the matter buddy?” Mike sat up somewhat confused, putting his legs over the edge of the bed, and picked up his son. Holding him close as he started to cry harder. “Come on buddy, let’s go to your room so we don’t wake mama.” You were seven months pregnant, and he knew just how precious sleep was to you right now.
Standing up, holding Adam, he threw one arm back to stretch then walked the nervous toddler back to his bedroom. Adam clutching his fathers bare shoulder the entire way. “Tell me what’s wrong buddy.” Mike said, going into Adam's room.
“I have bad dream.” Mike's face fell a bit. He sat Adam down on the bed. Sitting down beside him he watched as the four year old wiped his face with the sleeve of his pajamas.
“I’m sorry kiddo. Wanna tell me what it was about?” Mike brushed his son's unruly curls out of his face.
Adam sniffled. Begrudgingly he began telling his father his nightmare. “There was a bear in my room. Him was a bad bear, daddy.” He looked around like he was looking for the beastly bear to come back. “Him bit me! And him was gonna eat me!”
Mike’s eyes widened in pretend shock, he gasped, “No way! Quick! Let me look at you!” Mike rolled up his son's sleeves, lifted his shirt over his head, tilting him back and forth, inspecting his stomach and back. He rolled up the legs of Adam’s pajamas. Adam was giggling at his fathers reaction. “Phew, no bear bites! Looks like that bear let you go! Musta been scared off cause of these stinky feet!” He crossed his eyes, sticking out his tongue and played dead, flopping back onto the mattress.
“Daddy!” Adam’s laughter filled the room. He laid down with his dad. Mike shifted into a more comfortable position knowing he wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon. “Tell me a story daddy.”
Mike recanted the age-old story that his grandmother used to tell him about the three bears, but gave it a more happy ending, and made Goldielocks a little boy named Sam. Telling him in the end that the bears all befriended the little boy. He was even invited inside to eat dinner after having help fix the things that he had broken.
“Daddy?” Mike could tell Adam was getting sleepy again.
“Yeah, kiddo?” He was softly running his fingers through his son's hair.
“Do you ever have bad dreams?” Such an innocent question. One that could bring back such dark memories if he were to allow it. Not tonight.
Mike inhaled sharply, remembering the sounds of the shovels digging into the earth to free him; the scraping of metal against wood. “Yeah buddy, sometimes.” Adam looked up into his eyes as he continued. “Your mom saved me from those dreams though. She made them stop. But when I do have them I just wake her, and she holds me until the monsters go away.” Mike smiled fondly talking about his wife. The mother of the children he never imagined he’d have.
Adam yawned, and smiled. “Close your eyes little guy. That bear ain’t coming back. If he does just feed him some porridge. That’ll make him happy.” Adam closed his eyes and was asleep in minutes.
Mike stayed awake a little bit longer thinking about his family. Thinking what would have happened had that officer not realized what was going on at that house that night. He had never thought he’d be so grateful to see the inside of an ambulance. That was the night he met you.
You weren’t even supposed to be working that evening. You had pulled a double because someone was sick. You were the second person he saw that night. When they opened the casket an officer called for help. “We got a live one! Need some help over here!” You were the one to answer that call. You helped pull him from the earth.
Mike fell asleep thinking about seeing your beautiful face for the first time that night. Thinking about the way you gently shushed him, putting the oxygen mask over his mouth and held him to you in the back of that ambulance because he refused to lie down, terrified that if he did he’d end up back in that box. The way your fingers brushed his curls back away from his face.
You woke up that morning around 7:30 reaching for your husband but found only his pillow. You got up slowly, wanting to take care of nature’s business then go looking for him. After washing your hands you walked down the hall to check on your son. The sight that greeted you made you smile wide.
There was no denying Adam was Mikey’s son. They were both on their backs, their right arms were both up and over their heads, the left draped over their stomachs. They were both snoring, both mouths wide open. There were curls everywhere! You went, and grabbed your phone to snap a picture.
“I love you my boys.” You quietly say rubbing your bump. “Little girl these boys are going to be wrapped around your finger I just know it.” You went downstairs to cook breakfast.
Mike joined you in the kitchen not long afterward. Kissing the back of your neck he mumbled a good morning. “Say, do you remember what the first thing I ever said to you was?”
You laughed, “How could I forget?!” You turned away from what you were doing to look at him. “‘Hey sweet cheeks, you always look this good saving lives?’” Mike laughed at you when you tilted your head like he did when he flirted. “To which I responded, ‘normally no, but you making me roll around in all this dirt gave me a more natural look.’”
You touched his face as his hands caressed your full abdomen. His little girl. “I’m so glad I worked that double. I was so pissed I had to take that shift. Who knew three hours later I’d meet my soulmate.”
Mike hummed, pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead, closing his eyes in bliss. Some would say it was divine intervention, some would say fate, or it just wasn’t his time, but if anyone asked Mike, he would tell them he didn’t know, and didn’t care all he knew was that he was exactly where he was meant to be.
I'm in a fandom history mood and I can provide some context for this!
The Fire Nation Is Inspired By Japan is about *handwave* 99% fanon and has existed since before the show ended in 2008. I didn't watch ATLA until after the finale had aired, so I'm not sure when in the show's run this fanon took off, but by the time I showed up it was a pretty solidly-accepted fact.
But if you actually look at the show, there is extremely little evidence to support this idea. The Fire Nation is an archipelago, and in the pilot episode there was a character wearing samurai-inspired armor, and...I think that's it. Hardly any FN characters have Japanese names, fashion is more Chinese-inspired, the landscape was based on Iceland according to the art book, there's a lot of Thai aesthetics in the architecture and art, and when it comes to symbolism and allegory, everyone knows that the Air Nomads = Tibet, and it sure wasn't Japan that invaded Tibet.
So why did The Fire Nation Is Japan become so ubiquitous in the fandom? As far as I can tell, it's probably because the original ATLA fandom skewed so young. Most American kids had limited exposure to Asian cultures in the 00s, and thanks to things like anime and pokemon and WWII history, Japan would've been the Asian country they were most familiar with. It was pretty common for kids to assume anything Asian was Japanese.
Then you combine that with Baby's First Story Analysis. It's kinda cute when kids are just starting to poke at a story to search for hidden meaning, you can see the gears turning in their heads as they realize that themes and symbolism exist and it's so cool for them to realize that they can see these things too! But your understanding and interpretation of a story will always rely somewhat on what you already know, your knowledge of the world and your lived experience. And by default, kids just don't have much of either.
So when young fans saw a fantasy Asian country taking over the world? OH this is JUST like Japan in WWII!
There has been some pushback on the idea. I see in the notes someone mentioned @atlaculture, where you can find posts about the FN's many cultural inspirations. But years ago there was Jin of @atla-annotated (sadly abandoned), who kept an entire The Fire Nation Is Not Japan tag to debunk the idea.
Ironically, the most Japanese place in all of ATLA is actually Kyoshi Island--and even more ironically, the people there remind me more of the Ainu than the Japanese!
The Fire Nation Is Japan is really deeply entrenched fanon, though, and ever since TLOK gave characters with FN ancestry Japanese names like Asami, Hiroshi, and Izumi, it seems that canon is also going with the idea. Even I'm guilty of it, and I kind of hate myself for it lol, but since I do so much work with OCs and worldbuilding, I want my FN names to sound different from my EK names. *shrug*
But yeah, it's pretty much just fanon that became fanon because a bunch of kids in the 00s didn't know any better, lol.
I'm sorry, this was bothering me enough to send in an ask.
The stupid question is: how strict is Earth-Kingdom-is-China vs Fire-Kingdom-is-Japan generally? I mostly ask because although none of the canon characters use real Japanese names, but it feels like everyone uses Japanese names for Fire Kingdom and Chinese for Earth, which makes Chinese Wanyi for Zuko's ship not fit in.
I mean, the waters are muddied from China's historical domination over the area, and it's a really great pun, but I woke up and my brain wouldn't let go of the entirely petty issue.
Ugh. Sorry for the stupid ask, especially since I don't come bearing any like funny trivia with to mitigate with. Please feel free to disregard as well, especially since I'm too cowardly to link to my actual tumblr account.
There's absolutely no strictness, because that's a fanon division anyway, and not one I adhere to. Fanon is fake and we can make of it what we want, and I want the pretty ship name!
