Locked Out On Valentine's (Choose Your Ending)

Pairing: Simon "Ghost" Riley x Fem!Reader

Summary: You get locked out on Valentine's Day and have to sleep over at a certain Lt.'s flat.

C/W: Reader is dressed a little inappropriately

A/N: Never tried something like this before so I hope it buffs out. Also, super late Valentine's fic whoops

“What do you mean he’s not available?!” You stand with your forehead against your door.

“Barrack’s manager is out on leave, he’ll be back tomorrow. Recommend you stay with a friend for now.”

“Wait! Where’s the emergency ma-” *click*

What the fuck!

You huff, banging your head against the outside of your door. Today was one of the worst days of your life. You planned a date with your boyfriend of one year only to be dumped right before you were supposed to meet up. And after bawling your eyes out decide to run out to the fountain to get back the hydration you lost.

The redness around your eyes finally went away but they were so puffy you couldn’t even see your keychain still hanging on the wall.

You’re now stuck in the middle of the hall on Valentine’s Day in a short tank top and your bedtime booty shorts hoping a soul doesn’t appear and see you with all your goods hanging out.

The barracks manager - or whoever that was - told you to find a friend. You didn’t have any here. You’d been in the unit for all of five months and they weren’t all that accepting of new people. They oozed the “prove yourself worthy of our clan” mentality. You roll your eyes just at the thought.

Ughhh. I really don’t want to.

You whine internally as you pull up Cpt. Price’s contact on your phone hoping you’re not interrupting anything.

“Sergeant y/n, what’s the purpose of your call?” He sounds annoyed. You hear a feminine voice in the background and him softly shooshing it.

“Sir! I’ve been locked out of my room and the primary barracks manager won’t be in till tomorrow. I don’t have anywhere to stay.”

“That’s unfortunate, isn’t it?” His voice strains lightly. He’s quiet for a moment and you’re unsure if you’re supposed to say something or…

“I’ll see what I can do. I’ll message you soon.”

You sigh in relief. Maybe he’d contact the emergency manager and they’ll come unlock your door.

You stand with your arms crossed, back against the cold wall for what feels like forever until your phone finally buzzes.

Cpt. Price: Bld 920 Room 1208. Stay there tonight.

You’re about to flood him with questions, like: Where’s the key? Is there someone already there? Who’s room is this? But before you’re done typing he sends one last message.

Cpt. Price: I’m busy tonight with work so no need to thank me. Or call me again.

Work…? Yeah right!

The room was at least in the same building as you. Beats trekking in the snow in slippers and the ungodly attire you have on at the moment.

You make your way up the stairs cursing the base for not putting an elevator in your building. You peer at each door while wandering further down the hall.

1206… 1207… 1208!

You take a deep breath before knocking quietly.

God, I hope it’s at least a woman.

A few seconds go by before the door swings open. You stand wide-eyed. If you had less control your jaw would be on the floor too.

You stare back at your Lt. in all his glory. He stares back at you in nothing but low-hanging sweatpants. His blond hair is disheveled, the color matching the patch of hair on his bare sculpted chest. You’d seen him maskless before but from afar. He’s someone many avoided, his demeanor wasn’t exactly inviting and his wrath, from the rumors, was even worse.

The light flooding through the door frame illuminates his face enough to show the fine features up close. The scars running through his lips and cheeks only add to the stirring inside you that’s leaving you speechless. 

As you try to stop yourself from ogling him right here and now he notices your eyes popping out of your skull and softly blows air out of his nose.

Is he laughing at me?

He decides to finally break the staring contest.

“What d’you want, pet?”

You stutter a bit before getting the words out,

“I got locked out, the captain told me to come here. He didn’t tell me it was your place.”

It was his turn to let his eyes wander. His eyes rake over your tank top, your arm over your chest to conceal the fact you’re braless, your exposed stomach and shorts that barely did their job as clothes. You stand there waving your water bottle around as you speak, completely unaware of the look on his face.

A smirk pulls at one of his lips as he listens to you ramble about the barracks managers not doing their jobs. Your voice gradually gets higher the angrier you get.

“What the hell are you wearin’?” He interrupts.

“Why are you answering the door half-naked?” You shoot back.

He sneers, “You show up at my door wantin’ a place to stay and you have an attitude?” He pulls his phone from his pocket seeing a barely coherent message from Price.

“Fine. No point in arguin’, Price is probably with the missus, doesn’t want to be bothered.” He steps to the side allowing you to come in. You cautiously accept and step into the space.

His place was neat, and well-kept, more like an apartment rather than the prison they kept you in. You turn back to look at him and notice the tattoos covering the skin of his arm. He pretends not to notice you checking him out as he walks to the hallway closet and pulls out a pillow and blanket.

He hands them to you, “Is that enough or d’you need a bedtime story too?”

“Little Red Riding Hood’s my favorite, please.” You snark, as you drop the pillow and lean over to throw the blanket over the cushions. You swear you hear his breath catch in his throat but get quickly covered up by him clearing his throat.

“So… What are you up to on Valentine’s Day?” You prod hoping to learn something about the most feared individual of the unit.

“Just another day, means nothin’.” He leans against the wall behind him. You sit with your legs crossed on the almost comically large couch, probably custom-made for his giant ass. You lean on your hand and look up at him.

“Is that so?”

“What happened to that muppet you’re always moanin’ bout? Should be with him.” He tilts his head to the side.

“Nah, he’s no good. Decided he liked by friend better.” You laugh sadly. “Can’t seem to keep them this time of year. I’m too cool for it.” You try to joke but end up cringing on the inside. His chest rises with a soft chuckle.

“That right?”

“You know it.” You wink at him.

The two of you go quiet for a moment. 

He decides to break the silence.

”You want some tea, love?

*** Decision Time ***

Why not? I'm already here and he's being nice. Sure, I'll have some tea.

Or...

I don't wanna be a bother. He's already having to let me stay over. I'm gonna pass on tea.

The morning after, glitter scatters the floor of the cosy flat you and your boyfriend lived in. Your friends all running to the lobby to catch the midday cabs. Simon picks up empty bottles around the home, you clean and sweep the floor, and he looks over at you. A smile on him as he notices one thing. It's been a while since he felt this comfortable, it's been so long since he felt like all was well. 

The conversations, the laughter and how you and he shared an intimate moment in a crowded room. At that table last night, you and him sat down with your group of friends. It was the 31st of December when at the other end of the table, your friends caught the beautiful moment. The lights are warm and dimmed, he and you laugh, leaning on each other as smiles adorn both of your faces. That look in his eyes, one many would die for, the way he holds your hand or how his hand is placed on your back. What a beautiful moment, how amongst so many people, two lovers laugh, staring at each other with nothing but love. That softened gaze, oh how dare the poets die before witnessing this. The background is a window, snow falling as he leans closer. 

His warm hand cupping your soft face, "I love you," he whispers and your eyes soften more. Those teary eyes of yours captured what your friends felt. "She's in love...true love," one mentions. It was true, from past lovers to him, oh how the times have changed. A wine bottle is the one to help those cold eyes of his confess what his heart won't say. 

All that night, Polaroids were taken and in most of those, he was with you. His last beating drum. Simon picks up the scattered polaroids, one by one and as he does so, he finds one. Sweet beautiful moment, there you stood, holding him close as you kissed him, fireworks and people in the background. A smile as those precious lips of yours met his. "Si?" your voice breaking his trance. "Yes, lovie?" It was strange, he was never one for love and here he was, thanking all and anything that had led him to love you. 

"I'm making breakfast, I just want to know if you want me to add extra butter to yours?" Why do you have to know him so well? How can a man like him deserve to be known this way? "Yes, love, I would, thank you," his voice soft. You nod and walk to the kitchen. He looks out the window, the same windowsill in which he smoked a cigarette as you sat on his lap, overlooking the city. "But I can't help, falling in love with you.." you hum and he does too.

As he looks down, he sees your notebook. "What is that, lovie?" he says, wrapping his arms around you from behind. "It's me writing to my future kids, you know just in case they feel like they don't know their mum well and... I want them to know about this day." Simon's heart melted. A future? With you? Damn it, why does he feel this way? why must he flush when you mention it and why does he want it now? A buff dad, walking down the street, his wife by his hand and his baby girl being carried by her dad. What a sight to live.

"Where do you live?" he asks you as a taxi drives you both back to your place. "I rent a place by Ninth Street," you mention casually. 

Now, he watches as the same street is covered in snow, leaves, rain or sun. "Where do you live, mate?" Soap would ask. "I rent a place in Ninth Street with my girl," he mentions casually.

"Why do you even love me!? Why stay with a man like me" He asks between cries and confusion. "Because I love you! I love that I feel safe, that I know if the world out there was ending, I'd come to you and all would be fine." You try and make him reason. "I'm staying, even if you are lost at sea or on land, even if I'm too scared to move or if you keep pushing me away," you cup his face in your hands, caressing his scarred skin. "I want your mornings, evenings and midnights," you whisper, leaving kisses all over his face. 

With every stroke of the pen in which you write to your future kids, you hold onto those memories between two lovers. You hold the good, the bad and all that comes in between. 

Stupid. Stupid. oh fucking stupid argument you just had with him. Over what? An insecurity that was buried within you about his love. He was a good man, honest, loyal, understanding, funny, strong, romantic, soft and protective. The question was, why was he yours? Why do you get to love him and why does he get to love you? "I'm not pretty enough! You are this amazing man, so attractive and I don't fit in!" you cry and he shakes his head. "What is the real reason you feel this way?" Once more, he was soft, why did he do this? Why must he not yell but talk, whisper and listen? "I'm scared one day you'll stop loving me...Simon, you are my one good thing and I'm scared...okay?" Your voice cracking and he chuckles. So cruel and why? "My love, oh aren't you funny-"

"I'm being serious-"

"No, you are being hilarious. You see, to me, you are it. You are the peak of my existence and there will be no other. That's it."

"Simon?"

"Yes, lovie?"

"Please don't leave. I hate the thought of you becoming a stranger. T-the idea that one day if you leave, I'll only know you as a stranger whose laugh I can recognise" 

He shakes his head, wrapping you in a bear hug. "The only time I'll be a stranger is to all those girls who think my girl can't fight. And you, my love, oh you have nothing to worry about, I'm yours...forevermore," he whispers the last part.

He walks over to you, setting the table and smiling. He walks behind you, wrapping his warm arms around you. He inhales your scent, "I love you," he whispers. "Forevermore," you respond and he smiles. A long breakfast of shared gratefulness when now, he finds himself cleaning bottles with you on New Year's Day. 

To others, they know well that in some Spring, Simon Joseph Riley will become a husband and you, you will become a wife. The same beautiful bride who walks to him as he wipes tears away will be the same girl who squeezes his hand three times in the back of a taxi. He knows well that he will, in some future, be the same man who now kisses the back of your neck, and holds your hand as you give birth to his first child. New Year's Day, what a funny thing to tell your kids when they ask when the exact day was when their father proposed.

Music Headacanons - TSC gang

No offense guys, but I'm tired of everyone saying "x character would be such a taylor swift fan!" Like... there are other good musicians, people 😩. The world is more than pop. So, here I made a few headacanons for random tsc characters based on their vibe (my opinion of course).

Thomas is obsessed with 20th century music, especially the 80s. Queen, George Michael, Elton John, Pink Floyd - mentioned it to him and he would know it. He has especially soft spot for George Michael.

Ty loves classical music. Especially the Russian and German classics. He's never tired of listening to Tchaikovsky and Beethoven. Kit tries to find him modern music he'd like but so far he had liked only John Legend.

Alastair is one of these people who are history buffs. When someone says "Måneskin's Beggin' is actually Madcon's from 2007!", he says "No bitches, it was The Four Season's from 1967 first" (Thomas help here)

Isabelle is a rock hardcore fan - Skillet, Panic! At The Disco, The Score, Fall out boy - she can sing half of their songs if asked to (she rarely is though BUT SHE CAN). Simon had used Imagine Dragons' I'm so sorry to apologize to her.

I feel like Grace is one of these people who's favorite musicians are unpopular or no one has heard about them. She likes more chill but meaningful music. Glass animals are her all time favorite band and she recommends it all the time. If not them, she recommends not well knows artists from youtube and tiktok, like Summer Luk, grentperez and Cayley Spivey. 

Cecily is Florence + the Machine biggest fan. She discovered them through the radio while Gabriel was driving them to the hospital where Anna would be born. She made Gabriel record it and Anna was born listening to their music (and Christopher and Alexander as well). Cecily loves to tell this story, making Gabriel sigh and the kids - a little embarrassed.

Alec is one of these people who can't remember the name of bands/musicians. He knows exactly two songs of someone and listen only to them. Little Game and Rendezvous by Miss Benny? He loves them. Youngblood by 5SOS? He can sing this while sleeping. But when Magnus asks him what he thinks about Boys will be boys or Teeth he’s confused. “What?” “By Miss Benny and 5 Seconds Of Summer? You listen to them all the time.” “I have no idea who you're talking about.”

Gabriel is more of a jazz guy. As a kid his favorite show was The Pink Panther and since then he's fascinated by it. He adores Cab Calloway and through he discovers some creepy Snow White animation from 1933 and is traumatized (but Calloway is a king). 

Raphael claims that any music that isn't created the 40s, the 50s or isn't Traditional Mexican music, is trash. But he secretly loves Will Jay's Never Been In Love because it's a song he relates to.

Livvy is the Little mix top fan. She follows them since X-Factor and for years dreams to meet them. For one of her birthdays Julian and Emma gives her two tickets for their concert. She doesn't know who to take with her because Ty doesn't like this sort of music and crowded places, and Dru would be really bored. In the end she goes with Kit who doesn't mind and they have a great time. In return Livvy goes with him at an Apocalyptica concert.

Jem is, obviously, into violin music. If he's honest, he’s not that much of a fan of the modern music but he likes to make/listen to violin (and piano sometimes) covers of popular songs.

Kamala is obsessed with Zendaya for years. She’s waiting for a new song until late at night, watch every film with her no matter how little role and she admits that Zendaya is her celebrity crush and should be everyone’s.

Dru knows all the popular pop songs - but as rock and metal covers. She can't stand Billie Eilish unless it's a cover by Halocene because her lyrics have such rock potential but are wasted with pop instead (she once said it to Livvy and they had a fight about it - in the end Julian said they both have a point and made them pancakes).

Kit has strange unspecified music taste. One day his favorite song is Anti-Gravity by RUNAGROUND, and the next is listening Jem playing the violin. He also can never sing on his own, his sense of rhythm is non-existing and he’s singing some random nonsense instead the actual lyric. The only song he actually knows the text of is Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics because it's one of Tessa’s favorites.

Carry On Countdown 2018

Day 1 - flower shop AU

Flowers.

Of course.

I thought I couldn't be more ridiculous.

Guess I was wrong, which doesn't happen very often, I might add; but lately, since I've met Simon, nothing seems to make sense nor falls into place.

Just his moles are enough to make my heart skip a beat.

Plus, he has this absolutely-not-gorgeous-and gentle smile combined with his definitely-not-hot buff arms covered with tattoos.

Whatever, flowers will have to do because I don't have better ideas to ask him on a date.

I know everything about flowers and the likes. This is my shop, so I don't have to worry if they're not fresh enough or if the ribbon looks unsightly.

Simon runs the Tattoo studio across the street and I've been watching him since they opened. It's relatively new but is the only one in the neighborhood, so it's bloody popular and usually cramped.

Because they're good at what they do, not because Simon is breathtakingly handsome.

Obviously.

I need a minute or two to fully process what I'm about to do, ask him to go out with me is a dreadful idea when I do not know if he's interested.

I know he likes blokes, when the Studio opened, he came into the shop all nervous and flustered, saying he was new (that much was obvious) and that he didn't know much about people around here, so it was a pleasure to meet someone his age (he sounded like a moron, but it was cute so).

After the weird introduction, he exited the shop and unashamedly kissed one of his male assistants.

But said assistant is nowhere to be seen now, they fought, and broke up. Simon came here, cried on top of my counter while I offered him hot chocolate and bad anecdotes about my college days to cheer him up.

He offered his stories in return.

"Baz! Is the first time you come here, do you need something?"

Even though he tries to look professional and collected, I can almost picture a tail behind him moving as if he was some sort of puppy.

He's eyes avert to the flowers I'm holding and he becomes entirely flustered.

"I just wanted to give you this in gratitude of your help the other day"

I'm a coward. Why does it have to be so difficult when it involves him? I can see the exact moment he deflates.

"Oh... thanks, I guess."

"The one saying thank you here is me, not you, Snow."

Now he looks upset. Fine, I can work with upset Simon.

"Whatever, is that all?"

I walk towards him.

I leave the flowers in the counter as I step closer to him, so close, that I can smell his vanilla essence mixed with ink.

"And to let you know we're going to the movies, tonight if it's possible"

The feeling of my heart pounding aggressively in my chest is horrid.

His eyes light up but he smiles as smug as he can.

"I close at 6, if that's convenient"

Ugh. Why did I fell for such an arse?

"Then it's settled. Enjoy the view while I go."

Then I walk out of the Studio, knowing he's staring and trying really hard to not look back.

Living Arrangements: The second floor of Pulp Kitchen is dedicated to Simon’s living space, accessed through the stairwell connected to his backroom office, which also empties out into the alley behind PK. He likes the simplicity of an all-in-one building (as well as the feeling of security afforded by elevation and insulation from other people and structures). He’s managed a mish-mash aesthetic of spare industrialism and coziness: exposed brick walls and steel beams, a dark floor but the living room popping with a deep goldrod-yellow carpet and anchored on a large, buttery, reddish leather sofa. There’s a knit throw blanket tossed over the back of just about every seating surface that isn’t the chairs at the kitchen island. All doors are sliding and usually left open for the feeling of greater space. The apartment is blessed with the same wall-to-wall windows of the cafe downstairs and Simon enjoys having his morning coffee with a chair pulled up to them to soak in a little sun and watch the street wake up below. There’s a surprising lack of bookshelves considering the man himself, but less surprising considering the abundance of them downstairs.

Hair Colour: Black, slightly wavy, usually brushed back or curling over one side of his temple, just a little too short to tuck behind his ears. It tends to not bother him enough that he lets it do what it wants

Build: Closer to slim than wiry or bulked, he pushes himself to stay in shape but he ain’t out to get buff.

Clothing Style: Man’s got a big spectrum. Take your normal urban book-keep stereotype and add a few more colors and much nicer shoes. Almost always in a collared shirt of some kind, sleeves rolled up above the elbows and leather bracelets on his wrist, or maybe under a well-cut blazer with a discreet watch. You’ll never see Simon in a simple t-shirt if he’s got any choice about it, but at work he’ll range anywhere from this level of fancy jacket to this level of relaxed everything. If he’s going to go casual, it’s definitely in a hoodie with a some kind of weird reference plastered on the front. 

Usual Expression: Neutral and a bit removed, he tends to look ten levels deep in daydreaming even when he’s just sorting shelves or making a cappuccino. There’s pretty clear tells as to whether was he’s thinking is upsetting or pleasant: pinched brows or the smallest upward quirk to his lips.

Distinguishing Characteristics: A rigid scar above his left hip from the struggle three years ago that nearly cost him his life. Simon thanks the bullet scraping his side for giving him the panic-adrenaline to even survive it. A single dimple in his left cheek. Oh -- and we can’t forget the goddamn glasses. He felt like a jackass at first with fake lenses in, but over time he’s learned that they generously contribute to his fulfilling a certain stereotype within this new identity, and he’s now happy to hide behind the thin extra layer of protection granted by longer hair and a useless pair of wire frames. 

HEALTH.

Physical Ailments: None.

Neurological Conditions: His move to Dertosa came with a government-recommended psychologist, though Simon only met with her for a month before dropping out of his appointments with the stubborn belief it was better to take care of himself. There’s a bit of a self-stigma in Simon’s mind regarding mental health: depression and paranoia are emotions from his point of view, not conditions, and he expects himself to manage them like an adult, regardless of whether or not that’s a realistic goal. 

Allergies: Lower level lactose intolerant, but the kind who just pops a lactose pill, says ‘fuck it’, and has his latte anyways.

Sleeping Habits: A pretty solid seven to eight hours a night, in bed before midnight and out before eight 90% of the time. Structure is something Simon actively works for, in the hopes it’ll encourage stability. 

Eating Habits: Somewhat of an accidental vegetarian, his typical diet skirts close, but he lacks the moral rigidity on that particular stance. He’s weak once a really good smell hits his nose, meat be damned. Tries to keep his eating habits as regular as sleep, breakfast is a cup of coffee and any fruit he can grab and take downstairs, lunch is grazed from whatever’s on the menu at PK, dinner thrown together before after seven and before nine, always with some sort of fresh green veg involved. It’s tempting sometimes to revert to old college ramen-and-microwaveables habits, but he’s grudgingly taking care of his body with the full knowledge that the work of cooking is worth pushing him for.

Exercise Habits: Swims laps for an hour and half at the YMCA three times a week and tends to bike or walk for groceries, errands, ect. 

Emotional Stability: Mmmmm, let’s say 6, 7? There’s plenty of emotions tugging at Simon’s sleeve, but he’s simmered down to a more stable center as time has passed and he’s proven to be good for better or for worse at systematically approaching, sorting, and stuffing down what he thinks is useful to acknowledge or not. He purposefully tries to keep away from situations of high emotion, he knows himself well enough to know once he is propelled to extremes, it’s hard to get himself down from them.

Sociability: Simon definitely needs his alone time to refuel and recenter, but he also needs the stimulation of other people or he’d go stircrazy. He keeps an arm’s length, but he’s also too curious about what’s rattling around in other people’s heads to be a true isolationist and can be very warm with the right crowd. It’s a pleasure to have social connections, as long as he can keep the frame of mind that they can only go so far as PK’s front door. 

Body Temperature: Cool-natured, there’s a reason he can get away with wearing suit jackets in summer.

Addictions: Lil bit of a hoarder of sentimental objects. Does not matter is the memory is positive or negative and he doesn’t need to be able to lay eyes on it, just to know it’s within his care.

Alcohol Use: Strictly self-enforced as social. He doesn’t bring booze into his house unless it’s for cooking or a guest. No point in tempting a bad habit.

Weather: Daytime summer rain, that perfect crisp winter day when the air is frosty in his lungs and the ground is coated in snow. Real winter is one of the big things he misses about the Northeast.

Movies: Clever comedies or character studies, psychological thrillers, old Hollywood experimental movies, all the campiest of 80s horror. ‘Nightcrawler’, ‘the Exorcist’, ‘Metropolis’, ‘In the Mood for Love’. 

Sport: Basketball & fencing. He was a pretty damn good at the latter in high school and he’s entirely self-aware of just how pretentious a thing a boarding school fencing team is to be an alumni of.  

Beverage: Water with a few lime slices, sue him for being boring. Guilty pleasure is those stupidly sweet matcha green tea lattes from Starbucks.

Food: Hit him with that spicy shit. Fuck it up with savory flavors. Finish it with good n’ sweet. There’s definitely love for Korean, but he’s big on Thai and Southwestern cuisine as well. 

Animal: Panther. Just about any big cat, tbh.

Father: Jeong Yung-sik, aka Howard Jeong. Incarcerated since 2003, age 67. Eligible for release 2249. 

Mother: Jeong Su-jin, aka Sujin Jeong. Deceased as of 2015, aged 56. Official cause of death: craniocerebral ballistic trauma aka a gunshot to the head. 

Sibling(s): Jeong Min-chul, aka Erik Jeong. Deceased as of 2002, aged 16. Official cause of death: exsanguination aka prolonged and fatal blood loss.

Children: None, despite liking kids he doesn’t realistically see a future where it’d be wise to have them. 

Pet(s): His cats Darlene and Mister Meowgi have the run of Pulp Kitchen, the first named after a character from Mr. Robot, the second by an ex-girlfriend. The pun stuck; Simon still can’t bring himself to rename him. He had to give up his boxer, Odin, when he moved to Dertosa and he misses that damn dog every day. 

Family’s Financial Status: Raised very upper class, currently a comfortable upper-middle. Technically, he has none of the money left over from his family’s generous supply, but some of his earnings from his work as an ADA came with him to start him off in Dertosa and fund the opening of Pulp Kitchen.
