New Years haven’t exactly been pleasant the past few times he’s participated.

The Master knows that. The Master’s been… involved.

But maybe that was worth it, for here, for now. For Donna’s voice louder than all the rest calling out the countdown, and Rose with her attention buried in the book the Master had given her (“Instructions,” he insisted, “for activism.” The Doctor is pretty sure among those instructions are ingredients for pipe bombs.), and the Master himself sprawled drunk across his lap and purring like a cat.
