not hating on it bc it was a fine movie, it was coherent and consistent which is still way better than most mainstream movies released rn lmao, and besides like the casual orientalism that the sci-fi adjacent genre loves doing i can't say there was any bad writing or decisions that stood out to me as a whole, but it felt like pacific rim was doing a lot of things and not really excelling at any of them tbh.

#maybe im just not an action movie girlie idk #my post #like im not trying to be mean ik it gets hyped up a lot but it wasnt compelling me #didnt rlly feel connected to the characters. the worldbuilding wasnt as thorough as i thought itd be with the intro it has.#the story is Fine but its not outstanding or even that fun. it didnt rlly make me laugh.#the best thing is the cinematography tbh but even that isnt rlly allowed to shine and only takes up a third of the movie maybe #and bc of the aforementioned orientalism of the aesthetics i couldnt enjoy half of it anyway #i guess im not surprised by the hype bc it is fandom tradition to get attached to media with potential as opposed to existing quality #but i am disappointed esp bc i do like other guillermo del toro movies so far
